00:18 Trying to get into shape for my trip to India.
00:20 Christ said to go into all the world. 00:23 Preach the Gospel to every creature. 00:27 The problem is we have no idea who they are. 00:32 How are we supposed to effectively communicate the 00:34 Gospel to people we know nothing about? 00:37 How they think, 00:38 what kind of pressures they have in their daily lives. 00:41 Come with me and let's meet India face to face. 01:17 India's not a vacation for me. 01:19 It's hot, sticky, it's dusty, it's polluted, 01:23 there's no place clean. 01:24 It's so different than my culture. 01:26 Everything's in your face. 01:27 India's about a third the size of the United States, 01:31 yet it has over three times the number of people living in it, 01:34 with over a third of them living below the poverty line. 01:37 Now, to get an idea of what the poverty line really is, 01:40 it's defined by the World Bank as those that earn less than a 01:45 dollar and eight cents per day, 01:46 which translates out to about less than $400 a year. 01:49 If somebody here makes $1.50 a day, 01:51 they're not considered impoverished. 01:53 Yeah, right. 01:54 Not one change of clothes, one meal per day, 01:57 maybe two if you're lucky. 01:59 Survival is a life-long struggle. 02:01 And yet, there's a friendliness 02:03 and an openness to the Gospel in these people 02:05 that keeps me coming back. 02:07 Our reward is not in this world. 02:09 I'll have to learn to live outside of my comfort 02:12 rather I have to live by the unseen, knowing that in Heaven's 02:15 estimation, one soul is worth more than the whole world. 02:19 When I see the joy that they experience when they come to 02:22 know that there is a god that loves them and is more powerful 02:25 than the gods that harass them, 02:26 that's just such a beautiful thing to me. 02:28 What is it like to live on one dollar a day? 02:38 So, today is New Year's day? 02:39 Yes, today is January 1st, New Year's Day. 02:42 And these people still have to go to work? 02:54 So they work one day to eat one day? 02:55 Exactly. 02:57 They work and get their salary. 02:59 In the evening, they go home and cook and then eat. 03:03 Maybe one meal a night. 03:05 One meal in the night and start a fresh day in the morning. 03:10 Seven days a week, they have to work? 03:12 Exactly, there's no holiday for them. 03:14 Not even Sunday or Saturday? 03:16 No, no days matter- they don't have a day off 03:19 Sunday or Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. 03:21 Everyday's a new day for them. 03:23 They just go to work and eat and go to work and eat? 03:26 Yes again. 03:27 The people that were waiting on the streets, 03:29 do they know where they're gonna work today or are they just- 03:31 No, they don't know. 03:32 Only the boss will come and tell them to get into this van. 03:35 And they will take them, whatever they want 03:37 and they will go and each one has assigned duties. 03:43 To lift the sand, lift the iron bars, lift the bricks and 03:48 and they move things from one place to another place. 03:52 This is how they'll be instructed and they will do the 03:54 job the whole day and the evening-in-between lunch will be 04:01 provided from the company. 05:09 Thank you. 05:11 Then they will have that and... 05:26 Is that the caste system? 05:28 Yes... 05:50 These people probably don't even think that they have a brain. 05:54 Because the problem is they have not gone to school. 05:57 If the bus comes on the road 06:01 and it is going to the central station, they cannot even read 06:06 that, they will have to ask somebody nearby. 06:09 Then they will go. 06:11 So, with such kind of people, what can you do with that? 06:14 You can tell them to sweep this or take that or lift that, 06:18 and put there, I don't think they can do that. 06:21 So what happens if they get sick and can't work one day? 06:24 They are at home and they will go to the Durman hospital and 06:29 lie there for a few days and there they get one free meal 06:33 at the Durman Hospital and medicines. 06:36 And if they get worse, they die there. 06:44 So what if they don't get selected? 06:46 I mean, do they use all the workers or just- 06:54 Hungry. 06:55 Hungry, yeah. 07:00 A lot of things will happen today. 07:02 The Hindu's will go to the temple and the Christians will 07:09 go. They should've finished all their services this morning 07:11 because their service starts early morning, 3:00 07:15 and before 6:00, everybody's out of church. 07:19 Then, they go straight to the market 07:21 and buy some nice food and cook 07:25 and they whole day, they will now sit and relax and eat. 07:30 This is their festival move, 07:32 they're all in festival move today. 07:34 This is the chicken van, which is empty. 07:38 It's already unloaded everything in the market. 07:43 I happened to drop by a shop that sells this. 07:48 Are you buying mutton? 07:54 That's yours? 07:55 Yeah, it's mutton. 07:58 What are you gonna use the mutton for? 08:04 Are you gonna have a celebration? 08:06 Yes, it's New Year's celebration. 08:07 Is your family one boy? 08:10 Yes, my son. 08:12 Well, happy New Years. 08:15 Are you buying holiday chicken? 08:18 Yeah. 08:19 You're gonna have a festival with your family? 08:22 Yes. 08:23 All right. 08:28 Well, Happy New Year. 08:29 Happy New Year to you. 08:32 All right, thank you very much. 08:34 Thank you. 08:38 You can buy almost anything in India if you know where to go. 08:41 I needed a power adapter to fit the British style plugs they 08:44 have here. 08:45 No problem. 08:49 This is the holy cow. 08:50 So, there really is a holy cow. 08:55 Yes. 08:56 Is he angry? 08:58 Maybe not. 09:20 Really? 09:22 Yes, it is true. 09:23 They'll worship a live cow? 09:25 Yes, they will worship... 09:26 and in some cases, they will take the cow and when they build 09:32 a new house, what they will do is take the cow inside the 09:36 house, so that it will pass urine 09:39 and put the cow dung there. 09:41 And they think that is a great blessing for them. 09:44 Right now, I have no idea where Pastor Sam is taking me. 09:49 I think we're gonna meet one of the new believers, 09:51 but I'm not sure. 10:14 He was-the spirit was always calling, "Come to me, come to me 10:18 Why are you living in this world? 10:19 I'm living in a better world. 10:20 Why don't you come?" 10:22 So finally, he decided to hang himself or commit suicide 10:28 with his mother and with his children. 10:30 So, as he was walking towards debt, he met a person called 10:36 Francis and he was inquiring with that man if he could go 10:42 to a magician a Hindu magician so that he could have relief. 10:48 But that man happens to know the word of God and he said, 10:52 "No, this is not the way. 10:55 I will take you to an evangelist, an elder, 10:58 where he would instruct you what to do. " 11:01 And therefore, the next day, Mr. John and Mr. Francis went to 11:08 the pastor's house and there he said, 11:14 "I will come to your house tomorrow and pray. " 11:17 As the pastor began to pray, 11:20 about five different evil spirits came 11:23 and caught hold of the mother. 11:24 He said, "This is my child. Leave her. 11:28 And leave this family; I'm going to take them. 11:30 But the pastor said, 11:33 "You have no business to take this precious soul. 11:36 They belong to Jesus Christ. " 11:38 And he begun to pray and along his people 11:41 to the power of Jesus Christ. 11:43 And finally, the pastor asked this lady, the mother of John, 11:51 "Where did you come from?" 11:53 And that lady said, "I am the Lucifer. " 11:58 It repeated the same name, "I am the Lucifer. " 12:01 And he said, "You have no business to come here, 12:05 because Jesus Christ has paid the price, he has shed his blood 12:09 on the cross of Christ for these people. 12:12 How can you enter this house?" 12:13 "No, no, no, I will take them and go. 12:16 Please, you leave me alone. " 12:17 Then pastor said, "No, I'm going to burn you right here. 12:21 In this house, you'll be burnt with a fire. " 12:25 And as he took the Bible, "Oh, it's so hot! It's so hot! 12:30 I cannot bear this. 12:31 I will now obey. Please leave me, leave me. " 12:33 And the mother began to run out of the home, 12:36 so pastor caught her. 12:38 "You run away. Don't take this mother and children. " 12:42 And Mr. John, "You have to run away from this place. " 12:45 And the pastor said, 12:48 "You promise that you will never come back to this house. " 12:51 And it so happened that devil said, "I am the beast, 12:55 which is representing in this world. 12:58 I'm the Lucifer. I will run away. 13:00 Please, leave me alone. I will run away. " 13:02 And it shouted and she had a great shout before it could 13:07 leave her body and it ran away from the street. 13:13 Since that time, it promised that it would never come back. 13:16 Since that time, Mr. John and his mother and his children are 13:20 having a very peaceful and a happy family. 13:22 So, it was this lady? 13:24 This is the mother to Mr. John. 13:26 This is the one that the demons grabbed? 13:29 It had all the evil spirits coming on her and speaking out. 13:32 What does she think about Jesus? |
