but speaks like a dragon?

is a battle and a march,

And Jesus made it very
clear that the Christian life

would be difficult,
it wouldn't be easy.

In fact, His life was not easy.

His time on earth
and His ministry here
00:00:42.20\00:00:44.51
was one of great conflict.

He was opposed by the
authorities of His religion,

and He was opposed by
Herod and the secular powers.
00:00:50.01\00:00:53.88
But the people loved
Him because He loved them
00:00:54.45\00:00:58.02
and He did so many
wonderful things for them.

Sometimes Jesus spoke
wonderful soothing words

like the beatitudes,
"Blessed are the meek,

for they shall
inherit the earth."

Other times He spoke
very strong difficult words.

And I want to share
some of that with you

because we need to make
sure that we have both pictures

of this incomparable
Jesus, this wonderful Jesus

who loves the truth.

In Matthew 23 Jesus said
this, He said the scribes

and the Pharisees have seated
themselves in Moses' chair.
00:01:26.82\00:01:30.42
In other words, the
scribes and Pharisees,
00:01:30.59\00:01:32.09
they were an authority;
they had the authority,
00:01:32.12\00:01:34.06
religious authority of that day.
00:01:34.16\00:01:36.02
And then He goes on
to say this, He says,

"They tie heavy burdens and
lay them on men's shoulders."

In other words, in the
name of religion they invented

a lot of stuff
that God never invented

for people to have to bear.

And then He goes on to
say, "They love places of honor

at the banquets."

But then He says, "Woe to
you, scribes and Pharisees,

hypocrites; you shut off the
kingdom of heaven from people."

Oh, that's quite a charge.

"For you do not enter yourself,
and you don't allow those

who are entering to go in."

He says, "In
the name of religion

you've done all these things.

But when it comes to actually
going into the kingdom of heaven

you don't even go in yourselves,

and you don't let
other people go in.

Because they're using
man's laws to restrict people.

And then He goes on to say,

"For you're like
white washed tombs..."

Ouch!

"...white washed tombs which
on the outside appear beautiful,

inside they're full
of dead men's bones."

And then He says...

And I think He said all
this with tears in His eyes.

Because Jesus
really cared about people.

But He also spoke the truth.

This struggle, this
struggle between good and evil,

between right and wrong,
carries on not just in the world

but also under the
umbrella, big umbrella,

of Christianity.

Now that term that I just used
earlier at the introduction,

that he has horns like a
lamb and speaks like a dragon,

that shows the
conflict that's going on here.

And the Bible is going
to lay that out for us.

Now I want to say this,

that even though Jesus
spoke straight things to people

and called their
sins, John the Baptist did,

doesn't mean He
didn't love them.

And I want to share, anybody

it doesn't matter to me
whether you're a Protestant,

or a Catholic, or whoever,
it doesn't matter to me.

What matters to me
is that Jesus loves you.

And I want you to know that I
love you too and care about you.

the book of Revelation

It gets on to everybody.

It gets on to the papacy,
it gets on to Protestants,

it gets on to the
atheists and the secular people.

All of us will be reproved, in
love, if we listen to this Book.

an excuse to hate anybody.

We're looking at the
two beasts of Revelation 13,

talked about the leopard beast.

We've identified the leopard
beast in our last session,

but I want to review that
just for a few moments here.

Here's how we
identified this leopard beast,
00:05:06.13\00:05:08.90
or this beast from the sea.
00:05:08.94\00:05:10.97
Because the
leopard best gets his seat,
00:05:11.17\00:05:13.04
according to the Scripture,
he gets his seat, his power,
00:05:13.07\00:05:16.04
and authority from
the great red dragon.
00:05:16.08\00:05:18.58
Which means he's going to
appear in connection with it,
00:05:18.61\00:05:21.58
but he's going to come
up after it, so to speak.
00:05:21.62\00:05:24.22
The great red dragon was
clearly identified in Scripture
00:05:24.32\00:05:27.66
as Satan.
00:05:27.69\00:05:29.06
But Satan also
uses human agents,
00:05:29.56\00:05:31.99
just like Jesus
uses human agents.
00:05:32.03\00:05:33.83
He uses the church.
00:05:33.86\00:05:35.40
And the church is in contest, of
course, with the devil's agents.
00:05:35.43\00:05:39.83
And the devil used
pagan Rome to try to destroy
00:05:39.87\00:05:43.30
the early Christian
church, or the Christian church.
00:05:43.34\00:05:45.87
But pagan Rome was
unable to destroy the church.
00:05:46.51\00:05:49.91
Unable to destroy
the woman, even though he
00:05:50.38\00:05:52.48
persecuted her terribly.
00:05:52.51\00:05:54.42
And that church, once again,
is Christ's earthly agent.
00:05:55.12\00:05:58.32
So this contest, this struggle
between right and wrong,

this great controversy
that was going on in heaven

between Christ and Satan is
now continuing to be carried on

in this world.

And pagan Rome then
gave the leopard beast

its seat, its
power, and its authority
00:06:15.40\00:06:18.94
when it abandoned the city
of Rome and established a new

capital in Constantinople.
00:06:23.35\00:06:25.41
And papal Rome then is
the successor of pagan Rome.
00:06:25.71\00:06:31.15
And papal Rome is the
leopard beast of Revelation 13.

So as we look at this, we see
now these two beasts coming up.

In chapter 12 we
have the great red dragon

who is Satan, who
is opposing the woman
00:06:46.07\00:06:48.97
who is operated by Christ.
00:06:49.07\00:06:50.87
And the great red
dragon is operating pagan Rome.
00:06:51.04\00:06:54.18
Now pagan Rome gives its seat
and power to this leopard beast,
00:06:54.38\00:06:58.68
which is papal Rome.
00:06:58.71\00:07:00.18
And the historians tell
us that. That's not a secret.

You can read that
in history very easily.

And so we want to go now
to who this other beast is.

Because there's two
beasts now in Revelation 13.

Two beasts show up.

First of all is
the leopard beast,

which we've
already talked about.

It's papal Rome.
00:07:21.00\00:07:22.34
But now there is a
beast from the earth.

Now let me say this, that
this leopard beast come up
00:07:25.37\00:07:28.81
out of the sea.
00:07:28.84\00:07:30.58
It comes up out of the water.
00:07:30.91\00:07:32.78
Now the book of Revelation tells
us that water also is a symbol.
00:07:32.95\00:07:37.12
And in Revelation 17 you'll
find that it's a symbol of
00:07:37.42\00:07:40.52
multitudes,
nations, tongues, and people.
00:07:40.62\00:07:44.23
So it's a populated area.
00:07:44.26\00:07:46.53
Water represents
a populated area.
00:07:46.56\00:07:49.20
And that's where this
leopard beast comes up out of.
00:07:49.30\00:07:52.70
The papal Rome was
established in Europe,

in western Europe.
00:07:55.17\00:07:56.57
And out of the populated
areas of western Europe.
00:07:56.60\00:07:59.77
But now this next
beast is interesting because

it comes up out of the earth.

And so we want to ask
ourselves, who is this beast

that comes up from
the earth with two horns,

but it also has a mouth?

Two horns like a lamb,
but it has a mouth that
00:08:19.56\00:08:24.37
speaks words like a dragon.

That is just very fascinating.

It's a picture of contrast.

Convoluted, we might say.

Well let's go to the Scripture
in chapter 13 verses 11-12.

"Then I saw another beast
coming up out of the earth,
00:08:40.32\00:08:44.75
and he had two horns like a
lamb and spoke like a dragon.
00:08:44.95\00:08:50.63
And he exercises all the
authority of the first beast..."

Now that first beast
is the leopard beast.
00:08:54.06\00:08:56.87
"He exercises all the
authority of the first beast
00:08:57.70\00:09:00.44
in his presence,
and he causes the earth
00:09:00.47\00:09:04.84
and those who dwell in it..."
00:09:04.87\00:09:06.44
And there's that word.
00:09:06.47\00:09:07.84
"...to worship the first beast
whose deadly wound was healed."

So this beast that comes up
from the earth, this new symbol,

brings a great deal
of power to the earth.

And in the
process, he causes the earth

to worship the leopard-like
beast, or the papacy.

Papal Rome, if you please.

So in contrast, coming
back to those contrasts again,

this beast comes
up from the earth.

before, it's convoluted

It has the horns of a lamb,
but it speaks like a dragon.

But it has the
horns of the slain Lamb

that's in the midst
of the throne of God.

It's a very interesting one.

Not only does it
cause papal Rome,

the world to worship papal Rome,
but it also aids in the healing

of this deadly wound
that papal Rome received

in 1798 when
Napoleon took the pope captive
00:10:22.48\00:10:25.92
at the end of the
1260 year/day prophecy.
00:10:25.95\00:10:30.53
So the question is, how does the
beast from the earth do this?

How does he bring this about?
00:10:36.23\00:10:38.37

from heaven on the
earth in the sight of men."

Now making fire come
down is a reflection on Elijah

on Mount Carmel
when fire came down
00:11:17.21\00:11:20.08
and lit the sacrifice and
showed who the true God is.

So this power has
great powers of deception.

Even Jesus said
that in the end of time

if it were possible
would deceive the very elect.

These signs have a
great power to deceive.

"And he deceives those who
dwell on the earth by those

signs which he was granted to
do in the sight of the beast,"

that's the first
beast, the leopard beast,

or papal Rome, "telling
those who dwell on the earth..."

Now this gets interesting.

He was granted power to
give breath to the image

Christians are transformed into
the moral likeness of Christ

by the Holy Spirit's
power, but they are not Christ.

The image is something new.

And it reflects
something that is very much

like the papal power.

And to worship this
image in principle is the same

beast from the sea.

So this beast from
the earth has power
