Ever read an article about Christ or Christians 00:00:01.36\00:00:04.50 in the secular press, and then read the blogs? 00:00:04.53\00:00:08.40 People mock Jesus, they make fun of Him. 00:00:08.94\00:00:11.34 But you know, they might be a lot more sober 00:00:11.37\00:00:14.64 if they would just do a little math. 00:00:15.08\00:00:18.31 Yes, we do live in a world today unfortunately that 00:00:43.64\00:00:46.57 does make fun of Jesus and the Lord 00:00:46.61\00:00:49.94 and the God of heaven. 00:00:50.08\00:00:51.48 But people don't realize how much proof there is 00:00:52.11\00:00:55.68 behind the Messiahship of Jesus. 00:00:55.72\00:00:57.95 And we're going to talk today about mathematical proof 00:00:58.12\00:01:02.29 that Jesus is the Messiah of the world. 00:01:02.59\00:01:05.16 But first of all we're going to ask the question, 00:01:05.19\00:01:07.40 why does the world need a Messiah anyway? 00:01:07.63\00:01:11.47 Well the problem is a thing called sin. 00:01:11.70\00:01:14.74 And people hear that word and they don't 00:01:14.77\00:01:17.24 really know what it really means. 00:01:17.27\00:01:18.61 But let me tell you what's behind it 00:01:18.64\00:01:20.58 and why it's a big problem. 00:01:20.78\00:01:23.04 The basics are simply this. 00:01:23.65\00:01:25.51 That God created the universe, a God of love, 00:01:25.55\00:01:29.38 and He created it for life. 00:01:29.42\00:01:30.75 Don't you enjoy life? 00:01:30.79\00:01:32.15 And yet look all around us. 00:01:32.19\00:01:34.32 Everybody is dying. People are dying. 00:01:34.42\00:01:37.33 People are in trouble. The world is full of misery. 00:01:37.36\00:01:41.70 So how is it that this wonderful God of love 00:01:41.93\00:01:45.17 created a universe filled with love, but this world 00:01:45.20\00:01:49.17 turns into being such a mess? 00:01:49.20\00:01:51.47 But we need deliverance out of this mess. 00:01:51.64\00:01:54.38 And that is because God runs His universe by law. 00:01:54.41\00:01:58.21 And the way He keeps life is because He keeps unselfishness. 00:01:59.08\00:02:04.45 Life cannot exist unless it exists in an atmosphere, 00:02:04.49\00:02:09.46 environment, of unselfish love. 00:02:09.49\00:02:13.13 It's the unselfish love that makes life possible. 00:02:13.36\00:02:15.83 Now we're not going to talk much about it this time, 00:02:15.86\00:02:17.60 but at some point, 00:02:17.63\00:02:18.97 that was the whole issue over the great controversy. 00:02:19.00\00:02:21.24 Satan believed he could be selfish and still live. 00:02:21.27\00:02:25.21 But you can't. 00:02:25.24\00:02:26.57 So God gave ten commandments, ten commandments to guarantee 00:02:26.61\00:02:29.74 unselfishness in our world. 00:02:29.94\00:02:32.91 And unfortunately, of course, we know what happened. 00:02:32.95\00:02:35.18 That got broke. 00:02:35.22\00:02:36.75 When God made the universe, He made it to be filled with love. 00:02:37.09\00:02:41.36 Let's take a look at those ten commandments for just a second. 00:02:41.86\00:02:44.39 In fact, Jesus was asked the question, 00:02:44.59\00:02:46.66 "What is the greatest commandment?" 00:02:46.70\00:02:48.76 And somebody answered and He commended them for it. 00:02:49.13\00:02:52.23 It says, "To Love the Lord your God with all your heart, 00:02:52.27\00:02:54.54 your soul, your mind, your strength." 00:02:54.57\00:02:56.27 Now he got that, of course, from Moses. 00:02:56.30\00:02:58.31 And Moses got it right. That is the greatest. 00:02:58.34\00:03:00.74 And Jesus gave and affirmed the fact that the second one 00:03:00.78\00:03:04.71 is like unto it. 00:03:04.75\00:03:06.08 It's to love your neighbor as yourself. 00:03:06.11\00:03:10.22 So the law of God is based on unselfish love. 00:03:10.62\00:03:15.42 And the ten commandments are there to guarantee that. 00:03:15.46\00:03:18.53 To keep unselfish love as the basis of our existence. 00:03:18.56\00:03:22.76 And we know that. 00:03:22.80\00:03:24.13 If you go to the ten commandments, 00:03:24.17\00:03:25.50 we're not going to go through all the ten commandments, 00:03:25.53\00:03:26.87 but I do want to look at the tenth one. 00:03:26.90\00:03:28.24 All the commandments tell you, "Do not do this." 00:03:28.44\00:03:31.37 "Do not do that." It's very specific. 00:03:31.41\00:03:33.48 But the last one says, "You shall not covet..." 00:03:33.68\00:03:37.51 Now, "covet," is an issue of heart. 00:03:37.71\00:03:40.98 So it says, "You shall not covet your neighbor's wife." 00:03:41.42\00:03:43.95 Or his house, or his ox, or anything else that he has. 00:03:43.99\00:03:47.06 Don't covet. 00:03:47.26\00:03:48.59 So the heart has to be changed. 00:03:48.62\00:03:50.63 It has to be unselfish in order for life to exist 00:03:50.99\00:03:55.66 and for happiness to exist. 00:03:55.86\00:03:57.53 And that's why we have so much misery in the world. 00:03:57.57\00:03:59.27 That's why there is so much unhappiness. 00:03:59.30\00:04:01.24 It's because people have become so selfish. 00:04:01.54\00:04:05.14 And they become selfish because they have broken 00:04:05.27\00:04:09.24 God's law. 00:04:09.28\00:04:10.61 So we go to the apostle John. 00:04:10.85\00:04:13.72 The apostle John says, he defines what sin is 00:04:13.75\00:04:16.32 so that we can know it, and it's not a hard definition. 00:04:16.35\00:04:19.55 He says, "Sin is the transgression of the law." 00:04:19.59\00:04:23.73 Or sin is lawlessness. 00:04:23.76\00:04:26.29 So if you break the law of God, that's the definition of sin. 00:04:26.33\00:04:30.10 And that's what brings misery, and sorrow, and suffering. 00:04:30.13\00:04:32.83 In fact, in Romans, Paul in the book of Romans says, 00:04:33.07\00:04:35.60 "The wages of sin is death." 00:04:35.64\00:04:37.04 Isn't that awful? Sin pays wages. 00:04:37.07\00:04:39.11 You have to earn this misery, so to speak. 00:04:39.14\00:04:41.94 So we need a Savior. 00:04:42.14\00:04:43.98 We've got to have a Messiah. 00:04:44.01\00:04:45.81 We cannot get ourselves out of this. 00:04:45.85\00:04:48.25 Most of the religions of the world teaches you that you can 00:04:48.48\00:04:50.89 pull yourself up by just being good. 00:04:50.92\00:04:53.25 But the truth is that you can't be good enough 00:04:53.29\00:04:57.19 to get yourself out of the mess. 00:04:57.23\00:04:58.56 For two reasons: one, all of us have broken God's law, 00:04:58.59\00:05:01.80 and all the goodness in the future will not undo that 00:05:01.90\00:05:06.30 if it's been broken. 00:05:06.84\00:05:08.17 And number two, we've got a problem with a carnal heart. 00:05:08.20\00:05:11.17 We'll talk a lot more about that in this series. 00:05:11.21\00:05:13.58 So we need a Savior who can do three things for us. 00:05:13.71\00:05:16.54 First of all, He pays the penalty. 00:05:16.58\00:05:19.05 A broken law means there's a penalty. 00:05:19.45\00:05:21.75 And He's paid it. Isn't that good news? 00:05:22.05\00:05:24.15 And the second one, we need a Messiah 00:05:24.39\00:05:26.76 that can change our hearts and make us new people. 00:05:26.79\00:05:32.26 Change us from being selfish into being unselfish. 00:05:32.83\00:05:37.20 And number three, we need a Messiah that can 00:05:37.23\00:05:40.27 resurrect us from the dead. 00:05:40.30\00:05:41.87 Because the whole human race is dying. 00:05:42.07\00:05:45.11 So when man first sinned to Satan's temptations 00:05:46.68\00:05:53.18 in the Garden of Eden, 00:05:53.21\00:05:54.55 Jesus made a promise to Adam and Eve. 00:05:54.58\00:05:56.55 They're full of tears and sorrow, 00:05:56.58\00:05:58.25 they've broken God's law, they've lost the garden, 00:05:58.29\00:06:01.06 and now Jesus makes a wonderful promise to them. 00:06:01.36\00:06:03.69 And here's the promise that Jesus makes to them. 00:06:04.03\00:06:06.80 It's a promise that just should fill 00:06:07.00\00:06:09.76 all of our hearts with hope. 00:06:09.80\00:06:11.33 In Genesis 3:15 Jesus says to Eve, 00:06:11.50\00:06:14.50 "I will put enmity between you, Satan, and the woman, Eve, 00:06:14.54\00:06:21.38 and between your seed and her Seed." 00:06:21.71\00:06:24.11 Jesus not only comes as the second Adam, 00:06:24.15\00:06:26.51 He comes as the Seed of the woman. 00:06:26.55\00:06:28.28 And He comes to do something. 00:06:28.58\00:06:31.35 Satan would bruise the heel of Jesus, 00:06:31.39\00:06:33.76 but that's not a deadly wound. 00:06:33.79\00:06:35.32 But Jesus would bruise the head of Satan 00:06:35.42\00:06:37.69 and his selfish principles. 00:06:37.73\00:06:39.46 And that's a deadly wound. 00:06:39.69\00:06:41.16 And that's good news for the human race. 00:06:41.26\00:06:42.96 That there is a way out of the mess that we have 00:06:43.00\00:06:46.33 gotten ourselves into. 00:06:46.37\00:06:48.04 Isaiah 53:5-6, talking about the Messiah, 00:06:48.14\00:06:51.14 captures this in such a beautiful way 00:06:51.24\00:06:53.81 that I'm going to read some of the most sublime words 00:06:54.58\00:06:57.55 I think in all of Scripture, where he says, 00:06:57.58\00:07:00.22 talking about the Messiah that would come, 00:07:00.25\00:07:02.78 he said, " He was wounded for our transgressions, 00:07:03.08\00:07:06.92 He was bruised for our iniquities; 00:07:06.96\00:07:09.89 the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, 00:07:10.13\00:07:14.13 and by His stripes we are healed." 00:07:14.46\00:07:16.97 Isn't that beautiful? 00:07:17.00\00:07:18.33 You have trouble in your life, you have difficult in your life? 00:07:18.37\00:07:20.37 You feel the strifes and the difficulties of sin 00:07:20.84\00:07:23.34 and living in a miserable world? 00:07:23.37\00:07:25.27 In Jesus and in His stripes and in what He did for us, 00:07:25.94\00:07:29.84 we find healing and peace. 00:07:30.35\00:07:32.98 It says, "All we like sheep have gone astray; 00:07:33.35\00:07:35.72 every one to his own way; 00:07:35.75\00:07:37.32 but the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." 00:07:37.42\00:07:43.46 So Jesus is that Messiah that takes away our sin 00:07:43.89\00:07:47.93 and our selfishness, and returns us to a state of 00:07:48.03\00:07:51.13 joy, and happiness, and liberty, and peace, and life. 00:07:51.17\00:07:54.47 It's a wonderful thing. 00:07:54.50\00:07:55.97 So this hope was given to Adam and Eve, 00:07:56.20\00:07:58.14 it was given to Abraham and Sarah, 00:07:58.17\00:07:59.87 it was given to David, it was given to all the prophets. 00:07:59.91\00:08:02.78 All of them looked forward to the Messiah. 00:08:02.81\00:08:05.18 Thank the Lord for the Jewish prophets. 00:08:05.21\00:08:07.65 But the Messiah was to be given not just to the Jewish people, 00:08:08.08\00:08:11.85 as wonderful as they are. 00:08:11.89\00:08:14.32 The Messiah was to be given to the whole world. 00:08:14.96\00:08:18.03 The Jewish people were the conduit. 00:08:18.13\00:08:20.80 They were the deliverers, if you please, of this Messiah 00:08:21.10\00:08:24.53 that God would send through the Jewish people. 00:08:24.57\00:08:26.94 So we have this wonderful promise of a Messiah. 00:08:27.44\00:08:30.77 And we need Him. 00:08:30.81\00:08:32.77 I'm telling you, the Messiah is the only hope the world has. 00:08:32.97\00:08:37.41 I almost named this, The One Week That Changed The World. 00:08:37.51\00:08:41.18 But you'll see what I mean by that 00:08:41.22\00:08:43.08 when we get down to the prophecy. 00:08:43.12\00:08:44.59 Because we're going to come to that prophecy. 00:08:44.62\00:08:46.65 Daniel, of course, now is a captive. 00:08:47.46\00:08:49.02 He's an old man, he's in his 90's. 00:08:49.06\00:08:51.46 He's captive still in Babylon. 00:08:51.49\00:08:54.40 Jerusalem lays in ruins, the temple is in ruins. 00:08:54.43\00:08:57.70 And Daniel's heart wants to see it rebuilt. 00:08:57.73\00:09:00.14 And he begins a beautiful prayer asking God's forgiveness. 00:09:00.27\00:09:03.91 And he gets down to the end of that prayer, 00:09:03.94\00:09:05.91 and that's where we pick it up. 00:09:06.27\00:09:07.61 Some of the most beautiful words, most appealing words 00:09:07.64\00:09:11.61 to Jesus, to the heavenly Father. 00:09:12.08\00:09:13.88 Listen to him as he prays in Daniel 9:19. 00:09:13.92\00:09:19.42 "O Lord God, hear! 00:09:19.52\00:09:22.22 O Lord God, forgive! 00:09:22.32\00:09:24.83 O Lord, listen and act, and do not delay 00:09:24.93\00:09:30.47 for Your own sake, my God, 00:09:30.50\00:09:33.97 for Your city and Your people who are called by Your name." 00:09:34.00\00:09:39.11 Now God was listening. 00:09:39.14\00:09:40.61 God hears and answers sincere earnest prayer. 00:09:41.38\00:09:45.15 And God was listening. 00:09:45.65\00:09:47.15 And Gabriel was sent to answer that prayer. 00:09:47.98\00:09:51.49 Now many times God does something extraordinary. 00:09:51.52\00:09:56.29 In fact, the Bible teaches that He will do exceedingly 00:09:56.32\00:09:59.49 abundantly more than we can ask or think. 00:09:59.53\00:10:03.20 And He does that for Daniel. 00:10:03.87\00:10:05.33 Gabriel is sent to answer Daniel's prayers to when 00:10:05.37\00:10:08.80 the temple would be rebuilt, when Jerusalem would be rebuilt. 00:10:09.07\00:10:13.41 But the angel Gabriel gives another message in addition. 00:10:13.78\00:10:18.45 And that is, when this long hoped Messiah 00:10:18.68\00:10:23.72 that's the hope of the world, when would He show up? 00:10:23.75\00:10:29.09 And that's where the math comes in. 00:10:29.59\00:10:31.36 This wonderful pure math, if you please. 00:10:31.56\00:10:35.56 So he gives Daniel a time prophecy. 00:10:35.73\00:10:38.50 Now you don't have to be, again, you don't have to be a 00:10:39.13\00:10:40.84 rocket scientist to get this. 00:10:40.87\00:10:43.10 This math is not that difficult. 00:10:43.14\00:10:45.87 If you can do a little basic math, you can do this. 00:10:46.14\00:10:48.94 I have confidence that you can. 00:10:49.14\00:10:50.95 And the angel gives it in the terms of 70 weeks. 00:10:51.25\00:10:55.25 He said, "Seventy weeks are determined for your people." 00:10:55.28\00:10:58.62 But these are not 70 literal weeks. 00:10:59.32\00:11:02.16 These are 70 weeks of years. 00:11:02.19\00:11:05.06 So when we say 70 weeks, we're talking about 70 weeks times 7. 00:11:05.16\00:11:11.60 And that's 490 years, not days. 00:11:12.33\00:11:16.74 But we'll just talk about the 70 weeks of years 00:11:17.31\00:11:20.98 because it's easy for the math, very easy to do the math 00:11:21.08\00:11:25.05 with just focusing on the 70 weeks. 00:11:25.08\00:11:27.18 But you know before we start, it's really 70 weeks of years. 00:11:27.22\00:11:31.99 So we want to go back to the 70 weeks. 00:11:32.95\00:11:34.92 And each day, as I've already mentioned, represents a year. 00:11:35.19\00:11:39.46 But first of all, I want to talk about 00:11:39.49\00:11:41.63 the division of those 70 weeks. 00:11:41.83\00:11:43.67 And the reason I want to do that is because I want you to 00:11:44.00\00:11:46.70 hear this carefully. 00:11:46.74\00:11:48.10 The 70 weeks are divided up into three pieces. 00:11:48.54\00:11:55.31 Kind of like dividing the pie. 00:11:55.41\00:11:57.61 Kind of like, you know, mother bakes an apple pie 00:11:57.95\00:12:01.38 and junior gets the smaller piece, maybe mother gets the 00:12:01.42\00:12:04.29 next largest piece. 00:12:04.32\00:12:05.65 I'm just using this for an illustration. 00:12:05.69\00:12:07.02 Maybe dad gets the biggest piece. 00:12:07.06\00:12:09.02 So this pie is divided up, this 70 weeks is 00:12:10.16\00:12:13.43 divided up into three parts. 00:12:13.46\00:12:15.66 It's divided up into 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and 1 week. 00:12:16.10\00:12:23.37 That's easy, isn't it? 00:12:23.41\00:12:24.74 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and 1 week. 00:12:25.81\00:12:30.85 You can remember that as we go through that. 00:12:31.15\00:12:33.48 Because we're going to take each one and show 00:12:33.52\00:12:35.32 what happens, of course, with each one. 00:12:35.45\00:12:37.75 Now at the end of each one of these 00:12:37.79\00:12:39.99 something important would happen. 00:12:40.02\00:12:41.59 At the end of the 7 weeks, for instance, 00:12:41.79\00:12:44.83 something important would happen. 00:12:44.86\00:12:47.63 At the end of the 62 weeks, that's going to 00:12:47.66\00:12:50.70 bring us to the Messiah. 00:12:50.73\00:12:52.37 And at the end of the last week, we're going to find the 70 weeks 00:12:52.90\00:12:58.11 are finished and what that means, 00:12:58.14\00:13:00.28 what that last week means to the world. 00:13:00.31\00:13:03.75 Because it means something pretty wonderful. 00:13:03.78\00:13:06.55 This is astounding prophecy. 00:13:06.88\00:13:09.28 It's a prophecy that will reaffirm your faith, 00:13:09.32\00:13:12.15 give you courage, and I hope that you'll 00:13:12.25\00:13:14.56 share it with your friends. 00:13:14.59\00:13:16.22 Because people need to have their faith strengthened. 00:13:16.26\00:13:18.86 And it's hard to argue with this math. 00:13:19.09\00:13:21.66 Math that proves that Jesus is indeed the Messiah of the world. 00:13:21.76\00:13:27.57 The Messiah that the world has hoped for. 00:13:27.90\00:13:30.01 The Messiah the world has longed for. 00:13:30.11\00:13:32.34 The Messiah that the world needs. 00:13:32.61\00:13:34.64 Because the whole world, the whole human race, 00:13:35.01\00:13:37.81 it's just facing all the misery and the sorrow of sin. 00:13:37.85\00:13:41.98 Death is everywhere. 00:13:42.68\00:13:44.35 We need this Messiah, 00:13:44.39\00:13:45.92 this Messiah who can deliver us from the 00:13:46.02\00:13:49.19 terrible penalty of sin. 00:13:49.22\00:13:51.69
