Been rolling ever since. 00:04:26.13\00:04:27.63 So now, like tell us some of the experiences 00:04:27.66\00:04:29.80 that you've had like, you know, 00:04:29.83\00:04:32.03 your first school was it all equipped, 00:04:32.07\00:04:33.97 did you have, you know, 00:04:34.00\00:04:35.54 every single thing that you possibly 00:04:35.57\00:04:37.54 could need in the classroom, 00:04:37.57\00:04:39.74 what was it like? 00:04:39.77\00:04:41.11 That was in San Francisco. 00:04:41.14\00:04:43.04 Matter of fact I was hired with a telephone interview 00:04:43.08\00:04:47.85 and my mother called me, she says, 00:04:47.88\00:04:51.55 "Walter. a Mister Stigner has called you," 00:04:51.59\00:04:54.16 I said mommy, "Stignar," 00:04:54.19\00:04:56.73 so I called the number, it was Mister Stigney. 00:04:56.76\00:04:59.26 Very fine Christian gentleman and he interviewed me, 00:04:59.29\00:05:02.23 next thing I knew my wife and I were headed to San Francisco. 00:05:02.26\00:05:07.60 Did we have everything? 00:05:07.64\00:05:09.10 No, but it was great school and several of the students 00:05:09.14\00:05:11.87 that we have taught 00:05:11.91\00:05:13.24 have gone on to be Christian professionals 00:05:13.27\00:05:16.11 in our Christian school in our small Christian school, 00:05:16.14\00:05:19.11 it went from K through tenth grade. 00:05:19.15\00:05:21.52 Yeah, I'm familiar with the San Francisco Bay area, 00:05:21.55\00:05:24.12 right, I worked there and lived there myself, 00:05:24.15\00:05:28.62 and so that's a kind of a interesting situation. 00:05:28.66\00:05:31.63 You've got a city, a big city environment there, 00:05:31.66\00:05:34.90 and a lot of private schools, 00:05:34.93\00:05:36.67 good private schools that are there 00:05:36.70\00:05:38.23 but kind of going on to what, 00:05:38.27\00:05:40.64 why was it so important do you think for people 00:05:40.67\00:05:43.71 to send their kids to a Seventh-day Adventist school 00:05:43.74\00:05:46.81 in San Francisco. 00:05:46.84\00:05:48.18 Several of the parents understood 00:05:48.21\00:05:51.48 that the foundation of their children, 00:05:51.51\00:05:54.82 the educational foundation of their children, 00:05:54.85\00:05:57.19 what they were doing at home was important 00:05:57.22\00:06:00.39 and doing for Sabbath school 00:06:00.42\00:06:02.16 church is very important, 00:06:02.19\00:06:04.56 but they always needed other tier, 00:06:04.59\00:06:06.39 and I believe in the home school 00:06:06.43\00:06:08.00 and the church approach 00:06:08.03\00:06:09.36 you need all three tiers, 00:06:09.40\00:06:10.73 and if one of those tiers is broken, 00:06:10.77\00:06:13.64 your children many time would be deficient 00:06:13.67\00:06:16.87 and it has been proven through studies 00:06:16.91\00:06:18.77 that the longer our children are in our church schools, 00:06:18.81\00:06:23.61 the likelihood of them staying in the church 00:06:23.65\00:06:26.41 and growing in the church increase, it increases, 00:06:26.45\00:06:31.22 if they've done the study, it has been proven. 00:06:31.25\00:06:33.32 And so San Francisco was a challenge 00:06:33.36\00:06:35.36 but it was good and several of those students 00:06:35.39\00:06:37.59 I've kept in touch with them, 00:06:37.63\00:06:39.09 and they're still in the church today. 00:06:39.13\00:06:41.00 Wow. Amen. 00:06:41.03\00:06:42.36 And you said they are also serving in capacities 00:06:42.40\00:06:44.60 as our Christian educators around the country. 00:06:44.63\00:06:47.64 Educators, doctors, 00:06:47.67\00:06:50.67 they worked, they worked in banks, 00:06:50.71\00:06:52.74 in other professions in the San Francisco area. 00:06:52.77\00:06:56.18 It's been a blessing. Wow. 00:06:56.21\00:06:58.11 So now you left San Francisco and did you go to... 00:06:58.15\00:07:01.72 I know, we've talked about 00:07:01.75\00:07:03.08 some of your boarding school experiences, 00:07:03.12\00:07:05.12 share us some of those life experiences with the kids, 00:07:05.15\00:07:08.49 what are some of the memories that you have from there? 00:07:08.52\00:07:11.53 Our first boarding experience was in little small school 00:07:11.56\00:07:16.33 in Pennsboro, West Virginia, self supporting school. 00:07:16.36\00:07:20.14 And that was a blessing 00:07:20.17\00:07:22.44 'cause one of the students that graduated from that school 00:07:22.47\00:07:26.27 is now a minister and has done great work 00:07:26.31\00:07:29.14 in the Adventist church. 00:07:29.18\00:07:31.18 From there another boarding school 00:07:31.21\00:07:33.25 we've worked in was Auburn Adventist Academy 00:07:33.28\00:07:36.05 in Auburn, Washington. 00:07:36.08\00:07:37.72 Great school, we love Auburn and I encourage anyone, 00:07:37.75\00:07:43.26 if you're looking for a school where your children 00:07:43.29\00:07:48.40 need to go away, please send them to Auburn. 00:07:48.43\00:07:49.96 So Auburn okay, 00:07:50.00\00:07:51.33 the question now everybody's boarding, 00:07:51.37\00:07:52.70 schools gonna say settle there, settle there, so... 00:07:52.73\00:07:54.27 Yes, there is no place like Auburn. 00:07:54.30\00:07:56.20 Okay, great. 00:07:56.24\00:07:57.57 So tell me about Auburn. 00:07:57.61\00:07:58.94 Tell me about some of the kids and some of the families 00:07:58.97\00:08:00.88 and some of the situations that you dealt with there? 00:08:00.91\00:08:04.18 Well, Auburn, Auburn was, it was wonderful. 00:08:04.21\00:08:06.21 We would on Sabbath afternoon 00:08:06.25\00:08:08.95 knowing that kids in the dorm love home cooking. 00:08:08.98\00:08:14.32 I would cook on Friday afternoon 00:08:14.36\00:08:16.42 expecting another 15 or 20 to come to the house. 00:08:16.46\00:08:19.53 Some would come on Friday night after worship and eat, 00:08:19.56\00:08:23.50 and some would come Sabbath afternoon 00:08:23.53\00:08:25.37 that we will see them mattering across the campus. 00:08:25.40\00:08:30.21 I said, young people, have you checked out the dorm? 00:08:30.24\00:08:33.01 Do the deans... 00:08:33.04\00:08:34.44 Know that you're out. Wow. 00:11:04.86\00:11:06.80 So and he said, the best thing for him was 00:11:06.83\00:11:08.43 for us to ask him to depart. 00:11:08.46\00:11:11.43 It turned his life around. 00:11:11.47\00:11:12.80 How about academically, you know, 00:11:12.83\00:11:14.37 lot of times people say, 00:11:14.40\00:11:15.74 well, it's really great to be able to send your child 00:11:15.77\00:11:17.84 to a Adventist school but the academics, 00:11:17.87\00:11:21.24 you know, we know they're gonna get Jesus 00:11:21.28\00:11:23.65 and everything but... 00:11:23.68\00:11:25.98 You know, do you have any stories of were you've seen 00:11:26.01\00:11:28.02 people's lives totally turn around some kids, 00:11:28.05\00:11:30.25 maybe they came in low and you know 00:11:30.29\00:11:32.35 share with us then? 00:11:32.39\00:11:33.72 I have several. 00:11:33.76\00:11:37.16 There was one young man in San Francisco. 00:11:37.19\00:11:40.00 He was not doing well academically. 00:11:40.03\00:11:45.20 And he was a discipline issue. 00:11:45.23\00:11:47.57 We had to encourage him. 00:11:47.60\00:11:49.14 Back in those days, you could use other methods 00:11:49.17\00:11:52.57 to help them to... 00:11:52.61\00:11:54.44 And now we cannot. 00:11:54.48\00:11:55.81 Yes, amen. 00:11:55.84\00:11:57.98 But I learned that by taking this young man 00:11:58.01\00:12:00.58 and putting him in the dirt. 00:12:00.62\00:12:03.18 Having him digging the dirt, 00:12:03.22\00:12:04.95 it did something to burn off that extra energy 00:12:04.99\00:12:09.29 and his mother says, "Mr. Turner, 00:12:09.32\00:12:11.46 what are you doing to my son?" 00:12:11.49\00:12:12.83 I said, "Oh, oh, oh, wait, wait, wait, Mrs. Ramoue, 00:12:12.86\00:12:15.36 what do you mean what I'm doing to your son." 00:12:15.40\00:12:17.10 My son is not getting in trouble, 00:12:17.13\00:12:18.67 his grades have gone up, what has happened? 00:12:18.70\00:12:20.80 I said, "Oh, it's simple, I put him in the dirt." 00:12:20.84\00:12:23.51 In the dirt? 00:12:23.54\00:12:25.47 He, teacher would send him to my class, 00:12:25.51\00:12:27.34 he'd get in trouble, I send him out into the garden 00:12:27.38\00:12:29.88 and say, I say, Eakay, I need two rows, 00:12:29.91\00:12:33.55 I want all the weeds taken out, I want you to dig it up, 00:12:33.58\00:12:36.69 take all the weeds out, he did a beautiful job. 00:12:36.72\00:12:39.69 His academics went up, 00:12:39.72\00:12:42.16 his discipline issues went down. 00:12:42.19\00:12:44.43 The same young man started attending Sabbath school 00:12:44.46\00:12:48.36 and he was there before the Adventists were 00:12:48.40\00:12:51.03 for Sabbath school. 00:12:51.07\00:12:52.40 He was there at 9 o'clock 'cause he had to catch the bus. 00:12:52.43\00:12:55.07 And he also joined pathfinders he and his brother. 00:12:55.10\00:12:58.21 And thank God, it was a miracle that happened years later. 00:12:58.24\00:13:03.21 I was the only teacher 00:13:03.24\00:13:04.58 that he invited back to his wedding. 00:13:04.61\00:13:06.25 Wow. My wife and I. 00:13:06.28\00:13:08.12 That's really great. 00:13:08.15\00:13:09.48 That's just one and now there have been other young... 00:13:09.52\00:13:11.29 Tell us some more. 00:13:11.32\00:13:13.52 That have struggled over the years. 00:13:13.56\00:13:16.52 And I remember one young man 00:13:16.56\00:13:19.73 I taught in Las Vegas and the pastor said, 00:13:19.76\00:13:24.87 my son has never done well in school, 00:13:24.90\00:13:29.94 and he has turned it around and it's all because of Mr. T. 00:13:29.97\00:13:33.81 And I said, no, it's not me, it's Jesus. 00:13:33.84\00:13:36.21 I'm just loving the kids and helping them to know Jesus 00:13:36.24\00:13:40.15 as their personal savior and putting before them 00:13:40.18\00:13:42.35 that they can be whatever they want to be 00:13:42.38\00:13:45.79 and so yes, there have been students throughout the years 00:13:45.82\00:13:48.59 that have just, they did just enough to get by 00:13:48.62\00:13:51.69 and I've held the fire to them, 00:13:51.73\00:13:54.46 I said, you can be, you could do better than this. 00:13:54.50\00:13:57.23 You know, there is no mind we have been told 00:13:57.27\00:13:59.27 there is no mind that is too dull to learn, no mind. 00:13:59.30\00:14:01.54 Right, right. 00:14:01.57\00:14:02.90 So I believe it and I tell kids regardless of your past scores, 00:14:02.94\00:14:07.24 regardless of your low grades, you are intelligent, 00:14:07.28\00:14:10.25 you are smart, and they said, "I am?" 00:14:10.28\00:14:14.65 And then I help them, take them where they are 00:14:14.68\00:14:17.59 and then build them up, and then as they see 00:14:17.62\00:14:19.85 success breed success, and that's very, very important 00:14:19.89\00:14:23.02 that our audience misunderstand. 00:14:23.06\00:14:24.86 Success breed success, so if every parent, 00:14:24.89\00:14:27.50 teacher, educator, 00:14:27.53\00:14:31.10 church member will simply take the kids where they are 00:14:31.13\00:14:34.87 and continue to give them positive encouragement. 00:14:34.90\00:14:38.14 They will climb and as a result 00:14:38.17\00:14:41.01 some have become great leaders in our church today. 00:14:41.04\00:14:43.28 They've baptized many souls, so God says, 00:14:43.31\00:14:46.01 he said, Walter, go take this gospel to all the world, 00:14:46.05\00:14:48.65 teach all nations, I have done that 00:14:48.68\00:14:50.95 and those students have gone throughout, 00:14:50.99\00:14:52.62 throughout the world. 00:14:52.65\00:14:53.99 Some have been missionaries, 00:14:54.02\00:14:56.06 there two have been my own children. 00:14:56.09\00:14:57.46 Wow. 00:14:57.49\00:14:59.09 And that has been a blessing. 00:14:59.13\00:15:01.26 Well, I'm big on the Christian education too... 00:15:01.30\00:15:02.63 Yes, Ma'am. 00:15:02.66\00:15:04.00 As a Christian educator, I got my shirt on. 00:15:04.03\00:15:05.37 Yes. 00:15:05.40\00:15:06.74 Okay, and my children have gone through. 00:15:06.77\00:15:08.10 Amen. 00:15:08.14\00:15:09.47 But what can you share with your audience 00:15:09.50\00:15:11.71 what is special? 00:15:11.74\00:15:13.07 What happens like in a typical day 00:15:13.11\00:15:15.28 in a Adventist school? 00:15:15.31\00:15:16.64 What's so special about there as supposed to maybe 00:15:16.68\00:15:19.98 another kind of a school. 00:15:20.02\00:15:21.48 Why again we got to go back to that 00:15:21.52\00:15:23.32 because a lot of people are asking that question. 00:15:23.35\00:15:25.52 Yeah, you know, 00:15:25.55\00:15:26.89 if I take my kid to my children to church, 00:15:26.92\00:15:30.63 you know, helping them after school 00:15:30.66\00:15:32.29 and we're having worship in our home, 00:15:32.33\00:15:35.46 you know, and the cost for Christian education? 00:15:35.50\00:15:39.20 The cost, I deal with that first. 00:15:39.23\00:15:40.90 The cost is an investment. 00:15:40.94\00:15:44.97 It's not, yes, I could drive a nicer car today, 00:15:45.01\00:15:50.75 I could have nicer clothes and fancy house, 00:15:50.78\00:15:54.72 but knowing that my children and I've called them, 00:15:54.75\00:15:59.32 text them on Sabbath morning, they text me 00:15:59.35\00:16:04.63 and they've told me daddy we're in church. 00:16:04.66\00:16:07.80 I said, "Why are you texting me in church?" 00:16:07.83\00:16:10.33 You know, there was something happening in church 00:16:10.37\00:16:11.80 and as if is it 00:16:11.83\00:16:13.17 something exciting was happening in church 00:16:13.20\00:16:14.54 that they want me to know about it. 00:16:14.57\00:16:17.91 That is very, very important. 00:16:17.94\00:16:21.01 The foundation that we set with the morning worship 00:16:21.04\00:16:24.58 with Sabbath school and then school, why school? 00:16:24.61\00:16:29.88 We're taught, we are told about serving the Lord 00:16:29.92\00:16:33.59 that is that early education, 00:16:33.62\00:16:35.52 those first few years, many wait till college. 00:16:35.56\00:16:41.03 And I say it kindly, it's too late 00:16:41.06\00:16:43.47 because their habits have already been formed. 00:16:43.50\00:16:46.63 So we over the 32 years, 00:16:46.67\00:16:50.17 the teachers that I have worked with 00:16:50.21\00:16:51.67 were shaping and molding characters. 00:16:51.71\00:16:54.08 When a child has an issue, we can stop and we can pray. 00:16:54.11\00:16:58.31 We can encourage them. 00:16:58.35\00:16:59.68 We can put our arm around them. 00:16:59.71\00:17:01.52 And they're hurting on the inside, 00:17:01.55\00:17:03.42 they're coming from situations where home may be broken. 00:17:03.45\00:17:07.29 And we can say, Jesus is there with us. 00:17:07.32\00:17:11.09 We can do this in Jesus. 00:17:11.13\00:17:12.63 The Lord is going to anoint. 00:17:12.66\00:17:14.06 He's gonna work the situation out. 00:17:14.10\00:17:15.86 I've had to bury students. 00:17:15.90\00:17:17.73 I've had to deal with those that have lost loved ones. 00:17:17.77\00:17:21.10 And when you can take that spirituality and the academics, 00:17:21.14\00:17:27.18 then you have a holistic person, 00:17:27.21\00:17:28.84 and they're well rounded, 00:17:28.88\00:17:30.68 and they can go on to do great things. 00:17:30.71\00:17:32.38 So the typical day, yeah, but the typical day, 00:17:32.41\00:17:36.32 we start the day off with worship. 00:17:36.35\00:17:38.15 We start it off with Jesus. 00:17:38.19\00:17:39.75 I've had parents tell me, "Mr. Turner, 00:17:39.79\00:17:42.32 I know my child is active but one thing that 00:17:42.36\00:17:47.20 I'm loving above all things is him coming home 00:17:47.23\00:17:50.23 quoting scripture, singing the Christian songs, 00:17:50.27\00:17:54.57 excited about his studies. 00:17:54.60\00:17:56.37 What else can I say, it just, 00:18:00.08\00:18:02.18 and then you just continue to build on that 00:18:02.21\00:18:03.98 and continue to build on it. 00:18:04.01\00:18:05.68 And as a result every school, 00:18:05.71\00:18:08.32 every school that I administered in 00:18:08.35\00:18:11.85 several have given their life to Jesus, several. 00:18:11.89\00:18:16.06 And that's the most important thing, 00:18:16.09\00:18:17.43 you know, that's the big why, 00:18:17.46\00:18:19.63 that we want to have the kids be 00:18:19.66\00:18:21.00 able to give their hearts to the Lord. 00:18:21.03\00:18:23.47 You mentioned something that I want to go back to, 00:18:23.50\00:18:25.40 you said that you had to bury some students. 00:18:25.43\00:18:27.44 Yes. 00:18:27.47\00:18:28.80 How old were they? 00:18:28.84\00:18:30.17 One was in the, 00:18:30.21\00:18:31.74 I believe she was a first grader, she had cancer. 00:18:31.77\00:18:34.14 First grade? 00:18:34.18\00:18:35.54 So there is no guarantee 00:18:35.58\00:18:36.91 that children are gonna live a certain life 00:18:36.95\00:18:39.21 and then we hope maybe when they get older, 00:18:39.25\00:18:41.02 then they'll accept Christ and they'll kind of come back, 00:18:41.05\00:18:45.55 first grade, that's kind of young 00:18:45.59\00:18:47.56 and what was the other age of the other one? 00:18:47.59\00:18:49.19 There've been, there've been... 00:18:49.22\00:18:51.33 There was one young man, he was in his early twenties. 00:18:51.36\00:18:55.73 He had a disease, it took his life, 00:18:55.76\00:18:58.70 but there's one thing that inspired me, 00:18:58.73\00:19:00.64 he came to my house and said, Mr. T, 00:19:00.67\00:19:03.34 I know you're here, I just came back to see you, 00:19:03.37\00:19:05.64 and he began to tell me his experiences with Christ. 00:19:05.67\00:19:08.44 He says, I have this disease, the doctors have it in checked 00:19:08.48\00:19:13.52 and... 00:19:13.55\00:19:15.08 but the greatest thing that moved me was him sharing 00:19:15.12\00:19:20.36 how he's grown in Christ, his growing in Christ, 00:19:20.39\00:19:24.73 then two months later we learn that it took his life. 00:19:24.76\00:19:29.10 So I've had a few and it hurts 00:19:29.13\00:19:31.53 but knowing that the children are resting in Jesus. 00:19:31.57\00:19:34.17 Yes. 00:19:34.20\00:19:35.54 And I can't, that's worth it all. 00:19:35.57\00:19:39.37 It's worth it all. 00:19:39.41\00:19:40.74 It is, it is. 00:19:40.78\00:19:42.61 So let's say a parent decides okay, 00:19:42.64\00:19:45.78 we're gonna just figure out some kind of way 00:19:45.81\00:19:48.25 to pay for this education 00:19:48.28\00:19:51.25 and they bring the child to your school 00:19:51.29\00:19:54.86 and the student is low. 00:19:54.89\00:19:57.89 What kinds of things you said about little successes? 00:19:57.93\00:20:00.40 What kinds of things do you implement 00:20:00.43\00:20:02.93 to be able to help children achieve? 00:20:02.96\00:20:05.77 I've had students that couldn't speak English. 00:20:05.80\00:20:11.01 So I... 00:20:11.04\00:20:12.37 one thing I did with him, this is the fifth grader, 00:20:12.41\00:20:14.48 couldn't speak English, I had a few of them 00:20:14.51\00:20:17.11 and so I worked with phonics, very important. 00:20:17.15\00:20:22.92 So not only did I have my 00:20:22.95\00:20:25.59 non-English speaking students to phonics, 00:20:25.62\00:20:27.56 I had everyone do phonics, 00:20:27.59\00:20:29.29 because as you break up the phonics, 00:20:29.32\00:20:31.19 whole language is good you need it, 00:20:31.23\00:20:33.83 but there's something about phonics 00:20:33.86\00:20:35.86 because that's what turned me around. 00:20:35.90\00:20:37.77 I could not read, 00:20:37.80\00:20:39.13 I could not see the board, I need glasses. 00:20:39.17\00:20:41.90 And, but the teacher taught me phonics, 00:20:41.94\00:20:44.97 I was able... 00:20:45.01\00:20:46.34 Once I finally caught on that education is important 00:20:46.37\00:20:49.74 and my mother wasn't gonna accept anything else than, 00:20:49.78\00:20:53.48 and she caught my attention. 00:20:53.52\00:20:55.75 Right. 00:20:55.78\00:20:57.12 But the key was phonics, so I've taught kids phonics, 00:20:57.15\00:21:01.39 I believe in taking, taking the rudiments 00:21:01.42\00:21:04.06 of building up the comprehension. 00:21:04.09\00:21:07.63 And 'cause they have build up the comprehension, 00:21:07.66\00:21:11.53 there's various things we're using at our school in Alcy. 00:21:11.57\00:21:15.20 And as we're building up their comprehension, 00:21:15.24\00:21:17.94 we have discovered that as you build that up, 00:21:17.97\00:21:21.98 the test scores start going to the roof 00:21:22.01\00:21:24.71 because then they can get start reading 00:21:24.75\00:21:26.58 all types of genre because you've built up the reading, 00:21:26.61\00:21:30.02 and then of course with the math. 00:21:30.05\00:21:31.52 We've done several things with our math, 00:21:31.55\00:21:33.89 with the new math system 00:21:33.92\00:21:35.26 we have in our Adventist system, 00:21:35.29\00:21:36.62 and our kids are making strides and so we're looking... 00:21:36.66\00:21:41.43 What I like to see with my students 00:21:41.46\00:21:44.00 is two years of growth in one year. 00:21:44.03\00:21:46.57 So if a student is low, very low 00:21:46.60\00:21:48.54 you take them where they are, 00:21:48.57\00:21:50.07 you build on those low areas and success breed success, 00:21:50.11\00:21:54.41 and next thing you know, 00:21:54.44\00:21:55.78 the child says I am intelligent, 00:21:55.81\00:21:57.68 I can learn and he starts taking of. 00:21:57.71\00:21:59.81 Right, so where does the Word of God 00:21:59.85\00:22:02.68 come into this reading and math 00:22:02.72\00:22:06.35 and science and social studies, 00:22:06.39\00:22:08.56 how was that integrated in Adventist schools? 00:22:08.59\00:22:11.76 Throughout the whole curriculum. 00:22:11.79\00:22:13.46 Bible is not just taught in Bible class. 00:22:13.50\00:22:16.80 Biblical principles are expounded upon, 00:22:16.83\00:22:19.43 are shared in all of, in every aspect. 00:22:19.47\00:22:23.00 I've heard it from all of my teachers. 00:22:23.04\00:22:24.44 I've walked in the classrooms, one of which is yours. 00:22:24.47\00:22:27.88 Yeah. 00:22:27.91\00:22:29.24 And I've heard the Word of God being expressed in science. 00:22:29.28\00:22:32.78 I've heard it expressed in social studies, 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.45 that is not going to happen in public school. 00:22:35.48\00:22:37.92 It can't happen in public school. 00:22:37.95\00:22:39.29 Right. 00:22:39.32\00:22:40.66 They aren't sure... In fact they're opposite... 00:22:40.69\00:22:42.02 They aren't sure whether or not we came from monkeys. 00:22:42.06\00:22:43.39 Yeah. 00:22:43.43\00:22:44.76 Now I share with my students. 00:22:44.79\00:22:46.73 I've known individuals that look like monkeys, 00:22:46.76\00:22:48.43 they may act like monkeys 00:22:48.46\00:22:49.80 but none of us have ever come from monkeys. 00:22:49.83\00:22:51.63 They are not our cousins. Right. 00:22:51.67\00:22:53.47 We are made by the creator. 00:22:53.50\00:22:55.27 We come from His hand. 00:22:55.30\00:22:57.01 And so there is like this whole new curriculum 00:22:57.04\00:22:59.67 with Adventists that's by designed, 00:22:59.71\00:23:02.78 tell us a little bit about that as it relates to science? 00:23:02.81\00:23:05.98 It's excellent. 00:23:06.01\00:23:07.35 It is excellent. 00:23:07.38\00:23:08.72 I've had parents tell me that it is, that what she, 00:23:08.75\00:23:11.79 one of parents mission to me just recently 00:23:11.82\00:23:14.12 that what she is doing in nursing, 00:23:14.16\00:23:15.96 what she is studying in nursing, 00:23:15.99\00:23:17.76 it's being presented on a easier lower level 00:23:17.79\00:23:21.53 in our seventh and eighth grade curriculum. 00:23:21.56\00:23:23.60 And she is saying she is excited, 00:23:23.63\00:23:25.37 she says, this is the best science program 00:23:25.40\00:23:27.44 she has ever seen. 00:23:27.47\00:23:29.20 We're one of the best in the country. 00:23:29.24\00:23:31.17 Wow, so what about the common core state standards 00:23:31.21\00:23:34.71 and you know all of these other kinds of things 00:23:34.74\00:23:37.21 that are, you know, does it 00:23:37.25\00:23:38.71 will students coming to an Adventist school get that? 00:23:38.75\00:23:42.18 Will they get? That class. 00:23:42.22\00:23:43.55 Oh, yeah. 00:23:43.59\00:23:44.92 We have... It's been proven. 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.29 That a student will be average in our schools, 00:23:46.32\00:23:49.49 leave and go to public school and next day, 00:23:49.52\00:23:52.43 you know, they're top at their class. 00:23:52.46\00:23:55.66 And the parent say, well, how can it be? 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.57 It's real simple. 00:23:57.60\00:23:59.07 Because we don't have 00:23:59.10\00:24:00.57 the discipline issues of public school, 00:24:00.60\00:24:02.94 so our teachers can teach. 00:24:02.97\00:24:06.17 We're held to a higher standard, 00:24:06.21\00:24:08.21 so we're not able to... 00:24:08.24\00:24:09.58 What standard? 00:24:09.61\00:24:10.95 When you say you are held to higher standard. 00:24:10.98\00:24:12.31 what does that mean? The word. 00:24:12.35\00:24:13.68 The Word of God? The Word of God. 00:24:13.72\00:24:15.05 God says that our children are to be taught, 00:24:15.08\00:24:17.25 they had to be the head and not the tail. 00:24:17.29\00:24:19.95 That's true. 00:24:19.99\00:24:21.32 He wants our kids to be the head, not the tail. 00:24:21.36\00:24:23.53 So since he wants our kids to be the leaders. 00:24:23.56\00:24:27.66 I share with my parents and my students. 00:24:27.70\00:24:30.50 There are ten people looking for a job, 00:24:30.53\00:24:34.44 there're only two jobs. 00:24:34.47\00:24:37.57 Why not, shouldn't those two jobs go to us? 00:24:37.61\00:24:41.21 And what has happened over the years, 00:24:41.24\00:24:43.61 our Adventist children are well prepared 00:24:43.65\00:24:46.51 to go into every aspect of service. 00:24:46.55\00:24:51.15 I've had, I've known individuals 00:24:51.19\00:24:52.85 that attended Oakwood and because of their academia 00:24:52.89\00:24:56.59 and because of them pushing and doing well 00:24:56.62\00:24:58.79 on their test scores as well as in their school work, 00:24:58.83\00:25:02.30 they have been offered jobs. 00:25:02.33\00:25:04.20 One for the CIA 00:25:04.23\00:25:08.47 so I know this happens. 00:25:08.50\00:25:11.11 Wow, wow so where it is okay 00:25:11.14\00:25:14.01 so we've talked a little about the spirit, 00:25:14.04\00:25:15.78 we talked about the academics, 00:25:15.81\00:25:17.98 what about social? 00:25:18.01\00:25:19.35 Social? 00:25:19.38\00:25:20.72 That's very, very important 00:25:20.75\00:25:22.08 because our kids just like any other children 00:25:22.12\00:25:27.32 come to us with their issues, 00:25:27.36\00:25:32.16 and so we encourage 00:25:32.19\00:25:35.13 going spiritually mentally and socially. 00:25:35.16\00:25:38.10 We encourage our kids 00:25:38.13\00:25:39.47 on how they are to speak to each other. 00:25:39.50\00:25:42.60 How they are to relate to each other? 00:25:42.64\00:25:45.11 How they are to respect each other? 00:25:45.14\00:25:48.28 And if a student decides 00:25:48.31\00:25:51.01 they don't want to be respectful, 00:25:51.05\00:25:53.31 obedient, courteous, kind, 00:25:53.35\00:25:56.79 then we have to ask them, 00:25:56.82\00:25:58.22 maybe this is not the place for you. 00:25:58.25\00:26:00.32 But for the most part after much prayer, hard work, 00:26:00.36\00:26:04.49 the majority of them 00:26:04.53\00:26:06.16 through the anointing of the spirit, 00:26:06.19\00:26:07.90 turn it around and say, I want this. 00:26:07.93\00:26:12.43 And I got so many parents say, 00:26:12.47\00:26:13.94 there's something different about my child, what is it? 00:26:13.97\00:26:17.14 I said, I don't know. 00:26:17.17\00:26:19.07 Wow. 00:26:19.11\00:26:20.44 But I do, I guess I do know what it is? 00:26:20.48\00:26:22.04 It's the spirit. The Holy Spirit. 00:26:22.08\00:26:23.91 The God has promised, that in the last days, 00:26:23.95\00:26:26.35 He would pour our His spirit upon all flesh, 00:26:26.38\00:26:28.68 that's a promise. 00:26:28.72\00:26:30.05 And so I claim it, 00:26:30.09\00:26:31.42 I claim for the anointing of God upon the children. 00:26:31.45\00:26:33.96 And then, not only the children but upon their parents. 00:26:33.99\00:26:38.19 And as a result of the children hearing about Jesus, 00:26:38.23\00:26:41.40 we've had non-Adventist parents 00:26:41.43\00:26:44.03 accept Jesus as their personal savior. 00:26:44.07\00:26:47.54 One school I taught at just recently, 00:26:47.57\00:26:50.71 the whole family was baptized 00:26:50.74\00:26:53.58 because of the daughter. 00:26:53.61\00:26:54.94 I made a call during one chapel, 00:26:54.98\00:26:57.58 and the girl went to the bathroom, 00:26:57.61\00:26:58.95 got on her knees, gave her life to Jesus, 00:26:58.98\00:27:01.52 went home told her parents about it 00:27:01.55\00:27:04.45 and the whole family was baptized. 00:27:04.49\00:27:06.35 Well, Principal Turner, 00:27:06.39\00:27:07.72 this has really been enlightening, 00:27:07.76\00:27:09.09 it's been fantastic. 00:27:09.12\00:27:10.46 We didn't really get a lot into the sports, 00:27:10.49\00:27:11.83 but the sports have a part to play 00:27:11.86\00:27:13.80 in Adventist education just briefly? 00:27:13.83\00:27:15.66 Briefly. 00:27:15.70\00:27:17.03 Sports does, but I encourage young people, 00:27:17.07\00:27:20.70 God has not called us to be professional athletes, 00:27:20.74\00:27:24.41 and yes, I do know some individuals 00:27:24.44\00:27:26.57 that have had the opportunity to go into professional sports 00:27:26.61\00:27:29.14 but they have not. 00:27:29.18\00:27:30.51 Wow. 00:27:30.55\00:27:31.88 Because of the Sabbath issue. Right. 00:27:31.91\00:27:33.25 Play the sports, have fun, but don't forget Jesus. 00:27:33.28\00:27:36.89 Well, I want to thank you so much 00:27:36.92\00:27:38.25 for coming to the program today. 00:27:38.29\00:27:39.72 It's just been very enlightening, 00:27:39.75\00:27:41.12 we really appreciate your coming. 00:27:41.16\00:27:44.03 We always like to end with a prayer 00:27:44.06\00:27:46.39 for the families that are part of this, 00:27:46.43\00:27:48.36 so we probably close out today with our prayer. 00:27:48.40\00:27:51.93 Would you offer prayer for us? 00:27:51.97\00:27:53.44 Yes, let us pray. 00:27:53.47\00:27:54.87 Father God, in the name of Jesus, 00:27:54.90\00:27:56.74 we want to thank You for this privilege 00:27:56.77\00:27:58.31 to be here today to share 00:27:58.34\00:28:01.34 and to experience You. 00:28:01.38\00:28:02.94 There are many people that are listening today, 00:28:02.98\00:28:06.18 they need to put their children in church school, 00:28:06.21\00:28:08.75 they need to make a decision. 00:28:08.78\00:28:10.79 They may not be able afford it. 00:28:10.82\00:28:13.02 They may not know where the school is. 00:28:13.05\00:28:15.22 Oh, please, dear Lord, 00:28:15.26\00:28:16.59 open the door, just as You did for me. 00:28:16.62\00:28:18.83
