had a really good dream?

dream that you're getting to do

and in this dream
while you're sleeping,

you're getting to
the point of the dream.

It's the best part of the dream.

And we're getting to the
part where you win the game,

the part where
you get the new house.

And all of a sudden
your dream gets interrupted.

Isn't that one of the most

frustrating experiences of life?

As a matter of fact, at
one time I was in the hospital.

And I was having
this wonderful dream.

And you said that--

I got waken up by the nurse.

It's time for your shot.

Now, what do you do to--

You know, what
do you do when your,

when your dream
gets interrupted?

I know what I try to do.

I try to go back to sleep,
to get the rest of the dream

and it never works out.

It never works out.

And it's frustrating
when someone wakes you up

out of your dream, when life
wakes you out of your dream.

But it's even more frustrating
when the dreams we have

for life are awakened
dreams are interrupted by life.

When the things that we hope
for and we long for in life,

we just can't seem to have them.

And I feel like all of
us have awakened dreams.

We have daydreams.

Dreams of things we want to do

and things we want
to accomplish in life

or even as parents, we
have dreams for our children.

Sure.

Things that we want
them to accomplish and,

and, and just go on in life.

And just seems
like there are times

when life interrupts our dreams.

So what do most
people do when that happens?

You know, when our
dreams get interrupted by life,

we substitute something
else for the lofty things
00:03:22.40\00:03:26.37
that we were going after.
00:03:26.40\00:03:28.00
Instead of going
after big dreams,
00:03:28.04\00:03:31.04
we begin settling
for smaller things.
00:03:31.07\00:03:34.04
We begin just living
life at a lower level.
00:03:34.08\00:03:37.05
We make a substitute.
00:03:37.11\00:03:38.58
You know, it's
like if you can't find
00:03:38.61\00:03:40.08
what you're
really looking for water.
00:03:40.12\00:03:42.18
Sometimes we'll
substitute it for some drink
00:03:42.22\00:03:44.45
that may have lesser value.
00:03:44.49\00:03:46.35
Like soda.
That's what we do. Yeah.
00:03:46.39\00:03:48.49
And there's a story in the Bible
00:03:48.52\00:03:49.86
actually about a lady who
had big dreams for her life,
00:03:49.89\00:03:53.29
I'm sure.
00:03:53.36\00:03:54.66
But now it started
settling for something less
00:03:54.73\00:03:57.00
and had substituted
00:03:57.03\00:03:58.53
for something a
whole lot lesser.
00:03:58.57\00:04:00.87
And Jesus interrupts this,
00:04:00.94\00:04:03.00
this substitute,
this settling of life
00:04:03.04\00:04:05.57
and begins to
awaken a dream in her.
00:04:05.61\00:04:08.48
It's found in John Chapter 4.
00:04:08.51\00:04:10.15
John 4? Yep.
00:04:10.18\00:04:11.51
And it's the story that we call
"the woman at the well" story.
00:04:11.55\00:04:14.72
If Jesus now comes
in and begins to awaken
00:04:14.75\00:04:17.89
in her dream
that she had before.
00:04:17.92\00:04:20.79
It's John Chapter 4.
00:04:20.86\00:04:22.19
And here's how Jesus
awakens that dream in verse 7,
00:04:22.22\00:04:24.89
He says to her
simply give me a drink.
00:04:24.93\00:04:28.23
Well, it's just a
simple line, "Give me a drink."
00:04:28.26\00:04:30.73
And here it is this lady
was coming to the well at noon
00:04:30.77\00:04:35.04
when no one else is
supposed to be there.
00:04:35.07\00:04:37.37
She comes to this well
expecting no one to be there,
00:04:37.41\00:04:41.18
expecting no one
to, to interrupt her
00:04:41.21\00:04:44.35
and to talk to her.
00:04:44.38\00:04:45.71
And Jesus has a plan to stop her
00:04:45.75\00:04:49.05
and to say to
her, "Give me a drink."
00:04:49.08\00:04:52.02
Now, to you and I
that's, that's no big deal.
00:04:52.05\00:04:55.39
But this lady
begins to dialogue.
00:04:55.42\00:04:56.99
And she says to Jesus,
who's a Jew, she's a Samaritan.
00:04:57.03\00:05:00.93
She says, "It's not the custom
00:05:00.96\00:05:03.30
that a Jew would ask
a Samaritan to drink."
00:05:03.37\00:05:05.53
Now, now why are you
having this dialogue with me.
00:05:05.57\00:05:08.54
And Jesus says
these interesting words.
00:05:08.57\00:05:10.61
"If you only knew who
was offering you this drink,
00:05:10.64\00:05:14.38
if you only
knew the gift of God,
00:05:14.41\00:05:16.21
you would ask me give me a drink
00:05:16.24\00:05:18.98
and I would give
you Living Water."
00:05:19.01\00:05:22.45
Jesus says, "If you only
knew who you were talking to.
00:05:22.48\00:05:25.25
If you only knew
what I had for you,
00:05:25.29\00:05:28.56
you would be
clamoring for what I have.
00:05:28.59\00:05:30.86
You would be begging
me to give it to you.
00:05:30.93\00:05:32.69
You would, you would run to
me and you would ask me for it
00:05:32.73\00:05:35.66
because what I have
00:05:35.70\00:05:37.43
is what you've been
looking for all along."

Wow! Wow! So what happens next?

I mean, so now, it's interesting

the woman begins
to try to tell Jesus
00:05:45.04\00:05:47.24
this interesting
thing, in verse 11.
00:05:47.28\00:05:49.28
I think, it's something we
all tell God from time to time.
00:05:49.31\00:05:52.38
She says in verse 11,
"Sir, you have nothing
00:05:52.41\00:05:55.75
to draw water with
and the well is deep."
00:05:55.78\00:05:58.85
She says,
"Jesus, I hear this offer
00:05:58.89\00:06:01.82
that you want to give me water.
00:06:01.86\00:06:03.26
You want to satisfy me.
00:06:03.29\00:06:05.19
But as I look at
you, You have nothing
00:06:05.23\00:06:08.13
to draw water from
and the well is deep."
00:06:08.16\00:06:11.13
And in our lives
there are parallels.
00:06:11.17\00:06:13.20
We sometimes tell God,
"God, I see your offer of life.
00:06:13.23\00:06:16.91
I see your offer of blessing me.
00:06:16.94\00:06:19.07
But you don't
understand my issues
00:06:19.11\00:06:21.14
because my pain is deep
and my issues run deeper."
00:06:21.18\00:06:25.75
Yes.

You don't have what I
need because what I am been,

I've been dealing with
God, is a whole lot deeper than
00:06:30.29\00:06:32.82
what you're able to handle.

You know, that, that's
so true. That's so true.

Sometimes, life can
just be overwhelming.
00:06:38.29\00:06:40.70
And you just wonder,
like you said, you just wonder

is it possible for
God to be able to address

this particular
issue in my life.

Sure. Sure.

I mean, let's, let's
think about some of the issues

where we feel
lonely, for instance.
00:06:50.31\00:06:52.37
And we think,
"God, you're offering me
00:06:52.41\00:06:55.58
all of these
things that can satisfy me
00:06:55.61\00:06:57.65
but after I'm done
praying, I'm still alone.
00:06:57.68\00:07:00.85
After I'm done praying,
00:07:00.88\00:07:02.22
I'm still going home
to a house by myself.
00:07:02.25\00:07:04.72
You don't have
anything to draw water with
00:07:04.75\00:07:06.89
and my, my well runs deep.

Yes.

You know, we say, "God, I
know all of these solutions

that we've talked about.
00:07:13.19\00:07:14.50
But maybe that was
good when I was a child.

When, when I was
dealing with small problems
00:07:16.50\00:07:18.80
like someone didn't want
to play with me at school
00:07:18.83\00:07:21.00
but now I'm dealing
with grown up issues.
00:07:21.04\00:07:23.51
I've dealt with abuse
some people are thinking,
00:07:23.54\00:07:26.21
I've dealt with rejection,
00:07:26.24\00:07:27.74
I've dealt with
some of life's hurts
00:07:27.78\00:07:30.25
and I've even
inflicted things on myself.
00:07:30.28\00:07:32.71
God, you have
nothing to draw water with
00:07:32.75\00:07:35.25
and my well runs deep.
00:07:35.28\00:07:37.62
And we say, "God, I've been
tired of trying all the things
00:07:37.65\00:07:42.19
that people say, you
should try a spiritual people.
00:07:42.22\00:07:44.56
I've been tired of, you
know, naming it and claiming it
00:07:44.59\00:07:47.93
and reaching up my
hands and grabbing it in.
00:07:47.96\00:07:49.96
God, I don't see it
because maybe it's me.
00:07:50.03\00:07:52.70
Maybe my issues
run too deep for God.
00:07:52.73\00:07:56.20
And I think like that woman.
00:07:56.24\00:07:57.57
Sometimes, we think,
"Jesus, I see the offer.
00:07:57.61\00:08:00.74
But maybe I'm beyond the
point that You can help me."

That is so true.
That is absolutely true.

Yeah.
00:08:06.88\00:08:08.22
I don't know, I think, in
all of us as human beings,

there is a part
of us that feels that

maybe my issues
are too deep for God.

I've felt that way.
00:08:15.59\00:08:16.99
I felt, "Maybe
God, I'm too messed up.
00:08:17.06\00:08:20.43
I have too much baggage."
00:08:20.46\00:08:23.57
We've all felt, "Maybe
God, you can help other people
00:08:23.60\00:08:26.74
but my well runs too deep.
00:08:26.77\00:08:28.74
And God, you can't
get to the bottom of this.

You can't fix this."

And this woman is telling Jesus,
00:08:32.87\00:08:35.21
"You have nothing
to draw water with
00:08:35.24\00:08:37.85
and this well runs deep.
00:08:37.88\00:08:41.38
And then Jesus says to her--
00:08:41.42\00:08:43.28
She says to him, "Are
greater than our fathers.
00:08:43.32\00:08:45.02
Are you greater
than all the people
00:08:45.05\00:08:46.42
who thought they could help us?"
00:08:46.45\00:08:48.42
And then Jesus says to
her, "Everyone who drinks,
00:08:48.46\00:08:50.96
verse 13, of this
water will be thirsty again.
00:08:50.99\00:08:54.83
But whoever drinks of
the water I will give him
00:08:54.83\00:08:57.27
will never be thirsty.
00:08:57.33\00:08:59.30
The water I will give
him will become in him
00:08:59.33\00:09:02.04
a spring of water
welling up to eternal life.
00:09:02.07\00:09:04.87
Jesus says. "Here's
what I'm going to do.
00:09:04.91\00:09:07.71
You come to this
well to get water.
00:09:07.74\00:09:10.48
But when you come you
go home and you exhaust
00:09:10.51\00:09:13.55
what you've taken home.
00:09:13.58\00:09:15.28
You come to a
mountain and you worship
00:09:15.32\00:09:17.05
but when you go home,
that experience is gone."

Jesus says, "I'm
going to make this personal.

I'll put the well inside of you.
00:09:23.26\00:09:25.49
I got to tell you this.
00:09:25.53\00:09:26.86
You telling this story
00:09:26.93\00:09:28.23
is really
touching my soul so much.
00:09:28.26\00:09:30.57
And it's true,
you know, I don't,
00:09:30.60\00:09:32.30
I don't think of anybody
who's lived life long enough,
00:09:32.33\00:09:35.20
you're gonna have some
serious disappointments.
00:09:35.24\00:09:37.41
You're gonna have some things
that you feel like you've,
00:09:37.44\00:09:40.18
you know, that
you felt that, that,
00:09:40.21\00:09:42.04
you know, you haven't
quite made that the mark.
00:09:42.08\00:09:45.01
But you're saying that God
is able to give us something
00:09:45.05\00:09:48.72
that is, that will
supply that thirst in us.
00:09:48.75\00:09:52.49
That's right.
00:09:52.52\00:09:53.86
Because all of
us have a longing,

that only God can supply.

We may run after other things
00:10:00.30\00:10:02.46
but God is the only one
that can supply that longing.

And at our core level, there is,

there are just sometimes
that we say, "I'm not satisfied.

I have been coming to
this well for the lady.

Well, I've been
doing this experience.

I've been trying this thing.
And I'm still not satisfied."

And Jesus says, "All
of the things you try,
00:10:24.42\00:10:27.36
they're not
personal but what I'm saying,
00:10:27.42\00:10:29.36
I want to come, put
the well inside of you.
00:10:29.39\00:10:31.83
I want to give you something
that not only satisfies you
00:10:31.86\00:10:35.60
but overflows out of you."

So we don't have
to go to the well.

You're saying God is,

Jesus is willing to
put the well inside of us?

And every week, I'm
ministering to people.

And from time to
time someone will say,

I'm just so broken down by life.

I just got to get to
church to get filled up,

and that sounds great.

And we're glad that
the church becomes a place

where people can find
God and experience God.

But God is saying,
"I want to do something

even greater than that.
00:11:15.04\00:11:16.37
I don't want you to
come to religious services

each week empty."

"And get filled up and
go out through the week.

And get exhausted
and, and emptied into life

and then come back."

God is saying, "I want
you to live life on full.

I want you to live life
where you're not coming to--

Live life of full.

That's right. I like that idea.

You're not getting
your needle going down to E.

And then you come
back to us, worship service

No, God is saying,

"I want you to live
life on full to the point

where the supply is
bubbling over out of you

and spilling out to others."

So can you
imagine, what would happen

if everyone received
the well on the inside.

And we all came together.

What kind of experience
we would have as believers,

as worshippers, as
human beings when all of us

who are living life on
full because God is supplying us

on the inside, we're
connected with others
00:12:06.99\00:12:09.32
who are full and we're
just overflowing in love
00:12:09.36\00:12:12.09
and just, just the grace of God
00:12:12.13\00:12:14.20
is flowing out
from us to others.

What would happen to us?

We would have one great
wave that we could ride a wave.

That's right. That's right.

Now, what's
interesting in this story is,

Jesus has just
awakened a desire.

He just, you know,

He's just given her
that dream back again.

And she says to him, "Sir,
give me this water in verse 15.

She's like, ''Okay, I got it.

The dreams that
I've had as a girl,
00:12:35.55\00:12:37.25
the dreams that I've been
longing for, I now see it.
00:12:37.29\00:12:40.22
Give me this water. I want that.
00:12:40.26\00:12:42.06
I don't want to keep
coming back to this well.
00:12:42.09\00:12:44.29
Give me this water."
00:12:44.33\00:12:45.89
And you would think
that Jesus will say,
00:12:45.93\00:12:47.23
"Okay, here's the water."
00:12:47.30\00:12:49.16
But something
interesting happens.
00:12:49.20\00:12:50.53
In verse 16, he says,
00:12:50.60\00:12:52.30
"Go, call your
husband and come here."
00:12:52.33\00:12:55.17
Now come on Jesus
after all of this time,
00:12:55.20\00:12:57.54
you're trying to tell
us how good the water is.
00:12:57.57\00:13:00.81
Sell her on the
benefits of this."

"You've been
marketing this water.
00:13:03.01\00:13:04.35
I mean, you've
packaged it so well,

that she says, I want to buy it.

And you go change
the subject to say,

"Go, call your husband."

I mean, that's like,

if you, if you study
marketing you don't do that.

You make the sale and
you complete the transaction.

Close the deal. Yes,
right. You close the deal.

Jesus changes
the subject and says,

"Go, call your husband."

Now, I know in today's culture

like people don't want
you to get in your business.

They don't want you to
get up-close and personal.

This is Jesus not
getting into her stuff.

And I would just pay
money to see some people

what they would say to Jesus
00:13:36.41\00:13:37.75
if he said that to
them at the well that day.

Oh, oh.

Like, uh-uh, Jesus,
don't get up in my business.

We work fine when we
were talking about water.

But now you're talking
about my personal stuff.

And Jesus says,
"Go, call your husband."

So she tries what we all do.
00:13:50.13\00:13:51.59
We divert, you know,
we change the subject.
00:13:51.63\00:13:53.70
I don't have a husband.
00:13:53.76\00:13:55.06
Jesus says, "You're right
00:13:55.10\00:13:56.63
because you've had five husbands
00:13:56.70\00:13:58.17
and the man you're with
now is not your husband."

They had so much strife
between them and Samaritans

that they would
never go through Samaria.

They would go the
long way, you know.

well with His disciples

away into town to get food.

Now, Jesus understands,

they couldn't
handle certain things.

So He gets rid of these guys

before they mess
up this whole thing.

He said, you know, what?
Go get me something to eat.

Now, He probably is
legitimately hungry.

So Jesus sends
them away to get food.

And He has an appointment
with this lady at the well.

This is not by accident.

This is a divine appointment
that Jesus has set up

to meet this woman
who is longing for Him.

So Jesus now
meets her at the well.

her the living water.

He deals with the things

that she's been
using as a substitute.

And after He does that
and she goes into town,

The disciples.

exactly what He was looking for.

They say to him, "The
disciples are urging him,

eat. The food is there.

know, we, we've brought it.

Now the disciples are
saying to one another,

didn't take that long.

I thought we came
as fast as we could.

We went to the closest store.

How does someone else
beat us to give Jesus food?

And Jesus says, "My
food is to do the will of Him

So the lady
leaves her water behind

leaves His food behind.

Because the lady is satisfied
because she's found Jesus.

And the reason
we even desire God
