Huh, huh! 00:01:30.97\00:01:32.35 Where do you want me to start? 00:01:32.36\00:01:33.79 Let's talk about your credentials to 00:01:33.80\00:01:35.46 even be talking about RBF therapy, 00:01:35.47\00:01:37.84 which is righteousness by faith therapy. 00:01:37.85\00:01:39.97 Well, I'm a student of the Bible for one thing, 00:01:39.98\00:01:42.24 I studied my Bible on a regular basis, 00:01:42.25\00:01:44.59 but I also have a degree in mental health counseling. 00:01:44.60\00:01:47.54 So I work as a counselor. So you are. 00:01:47.55\00:01:50.09 So I know what works on the clinical setting. 00:01:50.10\00:01:52.16 I know what really heals people 00:01:52.17\00:01:53.81 by experience and by my own experience. 00:01:53.82\00:01:56.55 Praise God Yeah. 00:01:56.56\00:01:57.81 So when you think of Righteousness by Faith. 00:01:57.82\00:02:01.72 Let's back it up to where it became necessary? 00:02:01.73\00:02:05.87 Okay. Well, we have to ask three questions 00:02:05.88\00:02:08.35 when we're testing any psychological theory. 00:02:08.36\00:02:11.38 We've to ask three what, what is questions? 00:02:11.39\00:02:14.07 What is health? Okay. 00:02:14.08\00:02:15.89 What is the diagnosis and what is the cure? 00:02:15.90\00:02:19.74 So to begin with the, what is health question. 00:02:19.75\00:02:23.00 We've to have an idea, you know, 00:02:23.01\00:02:24.84 that we've fallen from our work somehow 00:02:24.85\00:02:27.10 not living up to or not in harmony with. 00:02:27.11\00:02:30.17 What is the idea? What is health basically? 00:02:30.18\00:02:32.58 According to scripture, God created us in His image. 00:02:33.64\00:02:37.25 We were created for a specific purpose of 00:02:37.26\00:02:39.40 being like Him in character and so true health 00:02:39.41\00:02:43.51 according to scripture is to be like Christ in character. 00:02:43.52\00:02:48.06 Yeah, to be like God in character. 00:02:48.07\00:02:50.05 It's perfect spiritual health. 00:02:50.06\00:02:51.85 That's right, Isaiah 43 says we were created 00:02:51.86\00:02:54.84 for His glory and so true health 00:02:54.85\00:02:57.26 is Christ within the hope of glory. 00:02:57.27\00:02:59.29 Amen. Amen. 00:02:59.30\00:03:00.68 So the second question is what is the diagnosis? 00:03:00.69\00:03:02.76 And that's where we're going to spend 00:03:02.77\00:03:03.83 the next few minutes on. 00:03:03.84\00:03:05.37 And we're going to look in Genesis Chapter 3. 00:03:05.38\00:03:08.05 I do a seminar that I've been doing 00:03:08.06\00:03:09.66 for probably 15 years called healing 00:03:09.67\00:03:12.19 in a wounds and the reason I put the seminar 00:03:12.20\00:03:15.07 together originally was because 00:03:15.08\00:03:17.48 I notice that people would go to church to get religion 00:03:17.49\00:03:20.24 and they would go somewhere else like 00:03:20.25\00:03:21.45 a twelve-step group or to a counselor to get help. 00:03:21.46\00:03:24.35 And I ask myself why they weren't getting 00:03:24.36\00:03:26.21 more help from religion itself? 00:03:26.22\00:03:28.87 And I thought may be there were some things 00:03:28.88\00:03:31.24 in religion that needed to be unburied possibly 00:03:31.25\00:03:35.25 that would bring the help that people 00:03:35.26\00:03:36.82 weren't getting the help in the health that they weren't 00:03:36.83\00:03:38.62 getting from their church experience. 00:03:38.63\00:03:40.09 And you know, it's so funny when you 00:03:40.10\00:03:41.51 think about the twelve-step program 00:03:41.52\00:03:43.43 and so many programs out there are 00:03:43.44\00:03:45.91 really modeled on Biblical principles. 00:03:45.92\00:03:48.53 They just leave God out of it. 00:03:48.54\00:03:50.03 Yeah, they often do. 00:03:50.04\00:03:51.15 Well, they don't leave God totally out, 00:03:51.16\00:03:52.46 but yeah they have been. 00:03:52.47\00:03:54.01 They have hijacked some Biblical principles 00:03:54.02\00:03:55.95 and they are helping some people, 00:03:55.96\00:03:57.88 so we can't deny the value of them, 00:03:57.89\00:03:59.74 but how much better if the church 00:03:59.75\00:04:02.64 was functioning as God designed it should. 00:04:02.65\00:04:05.39 So that we could lead people into 00:04:05.40\00:04:06.68 a full revelation of the truth. 00:04:06.69\00:04:09.34 But from Genesis Chapter 3 we're gonna get our diagnosis 00:04:09.35\00:04:12.60 we see in the garden that Eve is tempted to converse 00:04:12.61\00:04:16.21 with the serpent and then we see that she actually 00:04:16.22\00:04:19.94 partakes of the fruit and then her husband partakes 00:04:19.95\00:04:23.12 it as well and the place that I want to start is verse 7, 00:04:23.13\00:04:27.39 it says, the eyes of them both were opened, 00:04:27.40\00:04:29.52 and they knew that they were naked; 00:04:29.53\00:04:32.04 they knew that they were naked; 00:04:32.05\00:04:33.22 I believe that describes the experience of shame 00:04:33.23\00:04:35.80 and guilt that came upon Adam and Eve 00:04:35.81\00:04:38.64 when they realized that they were 00:04:38.65\00:04:40.32 now fallen that they had fallen into sin. 00:04:40.33\00:04:42.89 They lost that robe of light. 00:04:43.92\00:04:45.91 That's right, that's right. That was around them. 00:04:45.92\00:04:47.96 And I imagine that, that feeling was 00:04:47.97\00:04:50.35 quite overwhelming for them, 00:04:50.36\00:04:52.02 that they were quite alarmed by that. 00:04:52.03\00:04:55.37 I think of how Jesus died on the cross 00:04:55.38\00:04:57.46 really as a result of the physical ramifications 00:04:57.47\00:05:01.52 of bearing the guilt of the world. 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.79 And so I think we can reason from that the guilt 00:05:03.80\00:05:06.33 that Adam and Eve were experiencing 00:05:06.34\00:05:08.31 there in the garden was very uncomfortable for them. 00:05:08.32\00:05:11.63 And so we see what comes directly 00:05:11.64\00:05:13.47 out of that guilt experience was if they 00:05:13.48\00:05:16.11 sewed fig leaves together and made themselves 00:05:16.12\00:05:19.37 low in coverings, some translations say aprons 00:05:19.38\00:05:21.72 and any way they made 00:05:21.73\00:05:23.30 fig leaves garments for themselves. 00:05:23.31\00:05:25.31 In my, I add one thing. Yeah. 00:05:25.32\00:05:26.91 Because I know we're gonna talk about 00:05:26.92\00:05:28.31 fig leaves garments here in just a moment 00:05:28.32\00:05:29.95 that we do the spiritual things, but you know, 00:05:29.96\00:05:32.91 one of the other direct results of guilt. 00:05:32.92\00:05:35.14 When you feel guilty around someone there is 00:05:35.15\00:05:37.60 and avoidance syndrome. That's right. 00:05:37.61\00:05:39.18 You avoid them and that's what they did with God. 00:05:39.19\00:05:42.05 They were denying their true condition. 00:05:42.06\00:05:43.63 They were saying we can fix this, no problem. 00:05:43.64\00:05:45.50 Yeah, but even, don't you think they are still... 00:05:45.51\00:05:47.77 And little bit later down the road they did avoid God. 00:05:47.78\00:05:50.55 Yeah, it was kind of like when 00:05:50.56\00:05:51.65 he came there and said where are you? 00:05:51.66\00:05:53.64 They were still hiding even though 00:05:53.65\00:05:55.32 they were in their fig leaves, it's interesting? 00:05:55.33\00:05:56.97 That's right it didn't really work. 00:05:56.98\00:05:58.22 In another words their were own self-fixed 00:05:58.23\00:06:00.49 did not have the effect that they intended to have. 00:06:00.50\00:06:03.74 So I'm working from the premise that those 00:06:03.75\00:06:07.04 fig leaves represent self-righteousness 00:06:07.05\00:06:09.93 and that self-righteousness is in many respects 00:06:09.94\00:06:12.68 the mother load or the aorta of sin problem, because 00:06:12.69\00:06:16.74 all of these other things kind of float out of that. 00:06:16.75\00:06:19.70 We see the self-justifications, 00:06:19.71\00:06:21.16 self-righteousness in verse 7 and then you go on to 00:06:21.17\00:06:24.43 verse 8 and you see they have completely 00:06:24.44\00:06:26.96 misunderstood God at this point because 00:06:26.97\00:06:28.58 they are hiding behind the bush. 00:06:28.59\00:06:29.70 They don't realize, they don't recognize that 00:06:29.71\00:06:32.09 His love and He is coming redeem them. 00:06:32.10\00:06:34.12 Then you see anxiety in verse 9, 00:06:34.13\00:06:36.03 they are running away from God, you see, 00:06:36.04\00:06:38.48 that there is this blaming that takes place, 00:06:38.49\00:06:40.99 they are deflecting responsibility 00:06:41.00\00:06:43.61 from themselves and they are blaming one another. 00:06:43.62\00:06:46.03 You see them in that mode and then you also 00:06:46.04\00:06:47.82 see the animosity that came into their relationship, 00:06:47.83\00:06:50.29 the breakdown of their relationship 00:06:50.30\00:06:52.12 when they start to blame one another 00:06:52.13\00:06:53.60 and remember that only hours before you know, 00:06:53.61\00:06:57.73 Adams sells the creation into the hands 00:06:57.74\00:06:59.85 of the enemy because we're told he was not deceived 00:06:59.86\00:07:02.99 and then, that was just a few hours before 00:07:03.00\00:07:05.46 God came into the garden for Adam 00:07:05.47\00:07:08.33 to give an account to Him of what had happened 00:07:08.34\00:07:10.90 and Adam says it's the woman's fault hoping 00:07:10.91\00:07:13.34 that God will destroy the woman instead of him, 00:07:13.35\00:07:15.63 so that's how it only took a few hours 00:07:15.64\00:07:17.95 for his love for Eve to breakdown into willingness 00:07:17.96\00:07:21.60 to see her die in his place. It's interesting. 00:07:21.61\00:07:24.52 That's how fickle human love is. 00:07:24.53\00:07:26.23 And so we could see all of the relational problems, 00:07:26.24\00:07:28.96 the mood disorders we might say, 00:07:28.97\00:07:31.91 the just all the things that are wrong with us 00:07:31.92\00:07:34.64 kind of flowed out of that guilt 00:07:34.65\00:07:36.72 and then subsequent self-righteousness. 00:07:36.73\00:07:38.65 So that's her diagnosis and it's not a very pretty one. 00:07:40.09\00:07:43.89 Yes, and we know that Isaiah 64:6 00:07:43.90\00:07:47.29 he says that Isaiah again writes that 00:07:47.30\00:07:50.78 all of our righteousness 00:07:50.79\00:07:52.93 and I guess which defined righteousness. 00:07:52.94\00:07:55.42 Righteousness according to the Bible 00:07:55.43\00:07:57.24 is being in right standing with God 00:07:57.25\00:07:59.14 doing the things according to His way, 00:07:59.15\00:08:01.53 I guess you could say. 00:08:01.54\00:08:02.73 And so in Isaiah 64:6 he says all of our 00:08:02.74\00:08:06.75 righteousness is filthy rags before the Lord, 00:08:06.76\00:08:10.59 so to me that's the verse when people asked me 00:08:10.60\00:08:13.58 do you believe in righteousness by faith, 00:08:13.59\00:08:15.31 and I say well, that's the only... 00:08:15.32\00:08:16.87 That's the only kind of righteousness. 00:08:16.88\00:08:17.85 Only kind of righteousness that really 00:08:17.86\00:08:19.35 is because the best that man can do, 00:08:19.36\00:08:21.45 we can put all the fig leaves on us that we want, 00:08:21.46\00:08:24.85 but we can never be right with God 00:08:24.86\00:08:27.10 or being right standing with God by our own effort. 00:08:27.11\00:08:30.42 That's very good and I want to point out 00:08:30.43\00:08:32.61 something that I think is may be 00:08:32.62\00:08:33.91 a little different direction than some people take this. 00:08:33.92\00:08:36.17 We tend to see self-righteousness 00:08:36.18\00:08:37.78 as a religious problem, but I believe 00:08:37.79\00:08:40.05 that it's more basic than that, 00:08:40.06\00:08:41.43 it's more pervasive than that, 00:08:41.44\00:08:42.77 it's more universal than just religious people. 00:08:42.78\00:08:45.47 I think that there are many forms of 00:08:45.48\00:08:47.90 self-righteousness that human beings engage 00:08:47.91\00:08:50.23 and there are many attempts 00:08:50.24\00:08:52.51 at self-fixing that we are guilty. 00:08:52.52\00:08:55.33 I want to just outline a few of them. 00:08:55.34\00:08:57.44 A many different kinds of fig leaves, 00:08:57.45\00:08:59.49 we might have legalistic fig leaves in 00:08:59.50\00:09:01.38 religious circles where we're 00:09:01.39\00:09:02.78 trying work our way to heaven. 00:09:02.79\00:09:04.17 We're trying to gain God's approval 00:09:04.18\00:09:06.14 by doing certain good works. 00:09:06.15\00:09:08.40 We have hedonistic fig leaves as well though, 00:09:08.41\00:09:11.40 it's not just religious people that suffer 00:09:11.41\00:09:13.19 from this problem hedonistic self-fixes 00:09:13.20\00:09:16.77 would be trying to pleasure oneself 00:09:16.78\00:09:18.97 through the pleasures of the flesh, 00:09:18.98\00:09:21.02 lust, eating and drinking, substance abuse. 00:09:21.03\00:09:24.41 These are efforts to you know, 00:09:24.42\00:09:26.90 alleviate that inner sense of torment 00:09:26.91\00:09:29.04 that we have as results of sin, materialistic. 00:09:29.05\00:09:32.71 It's an interesting point. Yes, yes. 00:09:32.72\00:09:34.47 Well, think about it, you know, 00:09:34.48\00:09:36.35 the Publican and the Pharisee were in the temple 00:09:36.36\00:09:40.06 and the Pharisee's prayer was thank God 00:09:40.07\00:09:41.79 that I'm not like other man. 00:09:41.80\00:09:43.91 Many hedonistic people thank God 00:09:43.92\00:09:46.32 that they are not like religious people. 00:09:46.33\00:09:49.02 Because they think they are more loving 00:09:49.03\00:09:50.61 and accepting than religious people, 00:09:50.62\00:09:52.84 but really their heart is in exactly the same place 00:09:52.85\00:09:56.17 that the Pharisee's is heart is in. 00:09:56.18\00:09:57.95 Thank God that I'm not like other man, 00:09:57.96\00:09:59.65 so that essence of self-righteousness 00:09:59.66\00:10:01.73 is there in both of those cases, 00:10:01.74\00:10:03.47 it just has a little different manifestation. 00:10:03.48\00:10:05.73 Okay, then we have materialistic fig leaves, 00:10:05.74\00:10:07.91 you know, the accumulation of things, 00:10:07.92\00:10:10.10 the acquirement of things, money, possessions, 00:10:10.11\00:10:12.72 even aesthetics you know, wanting their 00:10:12.73\00:10:14.41 life to be just so having just that perfect 00:10:14.42\00:10:17.12 aesthetically pleasing or you know, 00:10:17.13\00:10:19.43 artistically pleasant life. 00:10:19.44\00:10:21.37 What about narcissistic fig leaves, 00:10:21.38\00:10:24.05 vanity, fashion, status, prestige, 00:10:24.06\00:10:26.49 you know, going after that ego lift, 00:10:26.50\00:10:28.48 that constant ego lift that really never get 00:10:28.49\00:10:31.23 satisfied because you always want more and more, and more. 00:10:31.24\00:10:34.58 What about nihilistic fig leaves. 00:10:34.59\00:10:36.67 This is not something we would typically think, 00:10:36.68\00:10:38.30 but some people become very self-destructive, 00:10:38.31\00:10:41.79 even suicidal and that's their attempt 00:10:41.80\00:10:44.54 to fix their state, that is kind of there, 00:10:44.55\00:10:47.60 you know, it's kind of inverse form of 00:10:47.61\00:10:49.60 narcissism where I'm trying to destroy myself, 00:10:49.61\00:10:52.28 taking upon myself something that really 00:10:52.29\00:10:54.79 belongs to God alone and that is my life. 00:10:54.80\00:10:57.67 What about emotionalistic fig leaves? 00:10:57.68\00:11:00.42 Looking for that emotional high. 00:11:00.43\00:11:02.40 Sometimes that perfect relationship, 00:11:02.41\00:11:04.42 which will give me that emotionally rich experience 00:11:04.43\00:11:07.61 or even a worship experience 00:11:07.62\00:11:09.64 that is emotionally stimulating, 00:11:09.65\00:11:11.47 looking for that experience constantly, so... 00:11:11.48\00:11:14.78 What about, would you think extreme sports 00:11:14.79\00:11:16.93 would fit into that. Very good. 00:11:16.94\00:11:18.61 Because they are always looking for that 00:11:18.62\00:11:21.03 adrenaline rush and that emotional high. 00:11:21.04\00:11:23.16 Very good, so you got what I'm saying 00:11:23.17\00:11:24.88 you know, these are our attempts at self-fixes, 00:11:24.89\00:11:27.64 so those fig leaves are legalistic, 00:11:27.65\00:11:29.24 hedonistic, materialistic, narcissistic, 00:11:29.25\00:11:31.61 nihilistic, or emotionalistic, 00:11:31.62\00:11:33.07 and I'm sure there is a billion other listics 00:11:33.08\00:11:35.53 we could add to the list, but we find well, 00:11:35.54\00:11:38.62 it kind of reminds me of word Ecclesiastic said, 00:11:38.63\00:11:42.06 man has sort out many inventions, 00:11:42.07\00:11:45.22 you know, we have come up with 00:11:45.23\00:11:47.39 a million different diversions, 00:11:47.40\00:11:49.04 a million different ways to avoid 00:11:49.05\00:11:52.68 the real issue which is that we are in a fallen 00:11:52.69\00:11:56.39 and condemned state and we need righteousness 00:11:56.40\00:11:59.42 and so we try to self-fix and we failed. 00:11:59.43\00:12:03.28 And you know, I think about in the 00:12:03.29\00:12:08.31 Christian world there are many people who, 00:12:08.32\00:12:12.16 you know, I'm a Seventh-day Adventist. 00:12:12.17\00:12:14.93 And some people say if you are an Adventist 00:12:14.94\00:12:18.36 and you follow the Ten Commandments 00:12:18.37\00:12:20.05 that you're legalistic and you're trying to 00:12:20.06\00:12:22.35 work your way to heaven, which, yeah, 00:12:22.36\00:12:25.02 that's what I say you is oh please. 00:12:25.03\00:12:26.81 And else from time to time, you hit someone 00:12:26.82\00:12:28.88 who sends me something and we'll say you know, 00:12:28.89\00:12:32.65 in the Old Testament, they knew that they 00:12:32.66\00:12:35.86 had to work their way to heaven and I don't know, 00:12:35.87\00:12:38.16 but that is... No. I never believed that's 00:12:38.17\00:12:39.88 a true statements at all because ... 00:12:39.89\00:12:41.28 Righteousness by faith is woven throughout scripture. 00:12:41.29\00:12:43.44 Throughout scripture. Yeah. 00:12:43.45\00:12:44.52 And I'm thinking right now and I just turned here 00:12:44.53\00:12:47.21 that in Jeremiah 23 verse 6, he says 00:12:47.22\00:12:52.12 "Now this is the name by which He'll be 00:12:53.41\00:12:55.49 called the Lord our righteousness 00:12:55.50\00:12:59.43 and that echoes to me 2 Corinthians 5:21 00:12:59.44\00:13:03.52 that God made him, who knew no sin, 00:13:03.53\00:13:06.04 to be sin for us; that we might become 00:13:06.05\00:13:09.33 the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 00:13:09.34\00:13:13.49 And so you know, I find so many scriptures 00:13:13.50\00:13:17.29 in the Old Testament that talk about I mean 00:13:17.30\00:13:20.33 they obliviously knew even in the sacrificial system, 00:13:20.34\00:13:27.10 they knew that there was a Savior coming 00:13:27.11\00:13:32.10 that there was an Attornment to be made 00:13:32.11\00:13:34.85 and they knew that they couldn't atone 00:13:34.86\00:13:36.25 for their own sins, there was always 00:13:36.26\00:13:37.78 a sacrificial death for their sin. 00:13:37.79\00:13:39.77 That's right And so... 00:13:39.78\00:13:40.89 The whole sanctuary system was pointing to a substitute, 00:13:40.90\00:13:44.92 you know, someone with the 00:13:44.93\00:13:46.87 outside source of righteousness. 00:13:46.88\00:13:48.46 Absolutely, so it's to me amazing 00:13:48.47\00:13:51.58 that people think that to keep God's commandments 00:13:51.59\00:13:54.24 which you said if you love me you will 00:13:54.25\00:13:57.33 is legalistic because certainly 00:13:57.34\00:13:58.98 I know that I cannot earn salvation 00:13:58.99\00:14:01.44 and then I cannot earn righteousness. 00:14:01.45\00:14:03.76 Well, there is a huge difference between God, 00:14:03.77\00:14:06.91 you know, the commandments still being 00:14:06.92\00:14:08.41 binding and the commandments, 00:14:08.42\00:14:10.51 keeping the commandments being meritorious. 00:14:10.52\00:14:13.40 Nothing we do has any merit before God, 00:14:13.41\00:14:15.95 but that doesn't mean that God 00:14:15.96\00:14:16.94 has now lowered His standard. Yeah. 00:14:16.95\00:14:19.15 You know, in fact we need that 00:14:19.16\00:14:20.60 high standard because it's through the 00:14:20.61\00:14:22.41 law that we recognize our need of Christ. 00:14:22.42\00:14:25.60 So, there are often times with my clients, 00:14:25.61\00:14:28.37 I'll just read Romans Chapter 7 00:14:28.38\00:14:30.05 to them and then we'll go into Romans Chapter 8, 00:14:30.06\00:14:32.67 I'll say this who you are, you know, 00:14:32.68\00:14:34.17 you're this Romans 7 man, you know. 00:14:34.18\00:14:36.30 This is where Paula is saying we'll always be, 00:14:36.31\00:14:38.58 He will save me from this body of death. 00:14:38.59\00:14:40.33 That's right, this body of death, that's right, so... 00:14:40.34\00:14:42.29 And then it begin with Romans 8 00:14:42.30\00:14:44.13 with now there is no condemned, 00:14:44.14\00:14:46.60 therefore, no condemnation 00:14:46.61\00:14:48.90 for those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:14:48.91\00:14:50.31 That's right, but people need to go through 00:14:50.32\00:14:52.33 that Romans 7 experience of recognizing 00:14:52.34\00:14:54.82 how far they fall short of God's standard before 00:14:54.83\00:14:58.97 they can even appreciate the Romans 8 experience 00:14:58.98\00:15:01.66 of now knowing that there is 00:15:01.67\00:15:03.55 a source of righteousness outside of them. Amen. 00:15:03.56\00:15:06.63 So I wanted to say these to though that there are 00:15:06.64\00:15:08.47 two sides to the fig leaves. Okay. 00:15:08.48\00:15:10.71 There is a front side and a back side. 00:15:10.72\00:15:12.90 So we're still on the 00:15:12.91\00:15:13.90 diagnosis part of this journey. 00:15:13.91\00:15:16.22 The front side of the fig leave 00:15:16.23\00:15:17.76 is the entitlement mentality. 00:15:17.77\00:15:19.79 I deserve, you know, God's blessings, 00:15:19.80\00:15:22.29 I deserve God's approval, because I'm so good. 00:15:22.30\00:15:26.43 But there is flip side of that. 00:15:26.44\00:15:27.83 Many people go through their lives feeling unworthy, 00:15:27.84\00:15:31.71 feeling sort of a pervasive, continual sense 00:15:31.72\00:15:34.47 of unworthiness and condemnation. 00:15:34.48\00:15:37.42 They believe however that if they can 00:15:37.43\00:15:39.50 just work hard enough or do enough 00:15:39.51\00:15:41.66 or reach that standard that they will 00:15:41.67\00:15:43.77 finally become worthy and really that's 00:15:43.78\00:15:46.67 coming from the same source that the 00:15:46.68\00:15:49.39 entitlement mentality comes from, 00:15:49.40\00:15:50.91 it's just the flip side of that fig leaves. 00:15:50.92\00:15:53.44 So I want to read a statement in response to that. 00:15:53.45\00:15:56.58 Nothing, but the righteousness of Christ 00:15:57.47\00:15:59.84 can entitled us to one of the 00:15:59.85\00:16:01.55 blessings of the covenant of grace. 00:16:01.56\00:16:04.07 There are many, many who have long desired 00:16:04.08\00:16:08.36 and tried to obtain these blessings, 00:16:08.37\00:16:11.56 but have not received them, 00:16:11.57\00:16:13.83 because they have cherished the idea 00:16:13.84\00:16:17.03 that they could do something 00:16:17.04\00:16:18.99 to make themselves worthy of them. 00:16:19.00\00:16:22.09 Christ is our only hope of salvation, 00:16:22.10\00:16:23.94 so let me, let me bow it 00:16:23.95\00:16:25.05 point that, people want the blessings. 00:16:25.06\00:16:28.75 They have tried to obtain, you know, 00:16:28.76\00:16:30.29 God's approval and all the blessings that come with it. 00:16:30.30\00:16:32.44 They have failed to obtain it 00:16:33.51\00:16:34.99 and the reason that they have failed 00:16:36.32\00:16:37.98 is because they have cherished the belief 00:16:37.99\00:16:41.26 that they can do something to make themselves worthy, 00:16:41.27\00:16:43.93 so the reason that they have failed 00:16:43.94\00:16:45.93 is because they have cherished self-righteousness. 00:16:45.94\00:16:49.45 I can generate righteousness from within myself 00:16:49.46\00:16:52.51 and effectively that blocks the channel 00:16:52.52\00:16:55.06 through which God can pour the blessings of grace. 00:16:55.07\00:16:59.10 They have blocked the channel of faith 00:16:59.11\00:17:00.80 because they are not reaching out to the 00:17:00.81\00:17:02.52 righteousness outside of them taking hold on that. 00:17:02.53\00:17:05.34 And we can look to the Pharisees and see that, 00:17:05.35\00:17:08.24 I mean here we're, if anyone had 00:17:08.25\00:17:10.59 a case of what I called the do mores 00:17:10.60\00:17:12.55 and every now and then I think we can all 00:17:12.56\00:17:15.30 fall into that where we think if 00:17:15.31\00:17:17.21 we can do just do more you know, 00:17:17.22\00:17:19.66 we're going to be made right with the Lord. 00:17:19.67\00:17:22.50 But the Pharisees certainly fell into that, 00:17:22.51\00:17:24.86 you know, where they had all the 00:17:24.87\00:17:26.58 scriptures memorized and they thought they were 00:17:26.59\00:17:29.58 so legalistic about every little detail 00:17:29.59\00:17:32.46 and had all these man made rules 00:17:32.47\00:17:34.71 thinking that they were going to be approved by God, 00:17:34.72\00:17:38.24 but they didn't even were recognized God 00:17:38.25\00:17:40.29 when He came in the flesh, 00:17:40.30\00:17:41.60 they had no personal relationship with Him. 00:17:41.61\00:17:43.96 There He was in their midst and they 00:17:43.97\00:17:45.58 didn't know who He was? Yeah. 00:17:45.59\00:17:47.78 And they wanted do they, in fact they 00:17:47.79\00:17:49.33 didn't just failed to recognize Him. 00:17:49.34\00:17:53.43 They hated Him and you know, 00:17:53.44\00:17:55.94 push the Roman powers to beat it, to crucify Him. 00:17:55.95\00:17:59.26 Amen. At great cost to themselves. 00:17:59.27\00:18:01.73 So it's amazing the animosity that was 00:18:01.74\00:18:04.34 manifested toward righteousness in human flesh 00:18:04.35\00:18:08.79 in the form of Jesus, you know, 00:18:08.80\00:18:10.23 they hated that righteousness that true righteousness 00:18:10.24\00:18:12.71 because they had so much righteousness of their own. 00:18:12.72\00:18:15.07 And we still see that the day there are 00:18:15.08\00:18:17.20 people who feel that they can do 00:18:17.21\00:18:19.21 something to earn God's love 00:18:19.22\00:18:22.43 or to earn what you said is worthiness, 00:18:22.44\00:18:25.74 I mean, on the flip side of that, 00:18:25.75\00:18:27.97 isn't it sad when there are people 00:18:27.98\00:18:29.56 who feel that they are completely 00:18:29.57\00:18:31.35 unworthy of His love you know. 00:18:31.36\00:18:33.90 And they are, you know, I tell people they are 00:18:33.91\00:18:37.66 unworthy in the sense they 00:18:37.67\00:18:38.68 cannot generate their worthiness. 00:18:38.69\00:18:41.08 But you know, God makes them worthy in Christ, 00:18:41.09\00:18:45.96 but it's not our own in it worthiness 00:18:45.97\00:18:48.03 that recommends us to God. 00:18:48.04\00:18:49.61 You know, I hate to mince words. 00:18:49.62\00:18:51.53 There is a difference between worthy and worth. 00:18:51.54\00:18:53.43 Yes, because, you know sometimes. 00:18:53.44\00:18:55.74 I knew you're gonna go there. 00:18:55.75\00:18:56.72 You knew it, because one of my pet peeves 00:18:56.73\00:18:59.29 is when people say, oh, I'm so unworthy, 00:18:59.30\00:19:01.23 I'm so unworthy like and if they want to say 00:19:01.24\00:19:03.64 I'm so undeserving, I agree with that totally. 00:19:03.65\00:19:06.30 But as far as the worth that God puts on them. 00:19:06.31\00:19:09.77 Once the Lord really shared this with me 00:19:09.78\00:19:11.90 to share every time I try to remember every time 00:19:11.91\00:19:14.54 I go out to speak because He told me to do this 00:19:14.55\00:19:16.98 and that is to say that you're worth nothing less 00:19:16.99\00:19:20.53 than the price that He paid for you 00:19:20.54\00:19:22.67 with the blood of His own son. 00:19:22.68\00:19:26.30 That's the worth God put on your life and so, 00:19:26.31\00:19:31.37 you know, the people who feel unworthy 00:19:31.38\00:19:33.48 it's not that we can generate anything, it's just 00:19:33.49\00:19:36.31 that we're undeserving of any of His blessings. 00:19:36.32\00:19:40.09 That's right, that's what I mean. 00:19:40.10\00:19:41.37 But God have put such great value on us. 00:19:41.38\00:19:46.03 That no one should feel unworthy. 00:19:46.04\00:19:48.32 We cannot make ourselves worthy of His blessings, 00:19:48.33\00:19:51.44 they are free gift and they will always be a free gift, 00:19:51.45\00:19:54.63 but that in no way should perform means 00:19:54.64\00:19:56.73 that we're not worth anything just because 00:19:56.74\00:19:59.12 we cannot generate our own worthiness. 00:19:59.13\00:20:02.04 We're always in a state of undeservingness, 00:20:02.05\00:20:04.96 but God gives anyway because God is giving you know, 00:20:04.97\00:20:08.29 righteousness is a free gift, we cannot earn it. 00:20:08.30\00:20:11.63 So I found this in a clinical setting 00:20:11.64\00:20:13.68 to be very powerful in healing. 00:20:13.69\00:20:15.74 In fact you know, the big buzz these days 00:20:15.75\00:20:18.20 in psychology circle is CBT cognitive behavioral therapy 00:20:18.21\00:20:22.45 and I love cognitive behavioral therapy, 00:20:22.46\00:20:24.67 I use it on a regular basis. 00:20:24.68\00:20:26.87 Explain with it because some don't know. 00:20:26.88\00:20:28.00 Cognitive behavioral therapy is basically 00:20:28.01\00:20:30.33 a systematic form of thought control 00:20:30.34\00:20:33.65 because what researches found was that 00:20:33.66\00:20:35.90 when people thought incorrect thoughts, 00:20:35.91\00:20:38.94 their emotions tended to track 00:20:38.95\00:20:41.66 with those incorrect thoughts, 00:20:41.67\00:20:43.42 so they develop the method of training people 00:20:43.43\00:20:46.05 to think correct rational thoughts, 00:20:46.06\00:20:49.02 so that their emotions will then begin to track 00:20:49.03\00:20:51.52 with those correct and rational thoughts. 00:20:51.53\00:20:53.50 And what they found is that mood 00:20:53.51\00:20:55.59 would lift people would feel better, 00:20:55.60\00:20:57.47 people especially with anxiety and depression 00:20:57.48\00:21:01.07 would start to feel better and be able to control that. 00:21:01.08\00:21:03.16 So I believe in cognitive behavioral therapy. 00:21:03.17\00:21:06.22 I'm a big fan of CBT, I use it, 00:21:06.23\00:21:08.15 but I'm an even bigger fan of RBFT 00:21:08.16\00:21:11.58 righteousness by faith therapy because it's just, 00:21:11.59\00:21:13.65 it's the message of His healing grace. 00:21:13.66\00:21:16.47 You know, when you are thinking about 00:21:16.48\00:21:18.44 CBT cognitive behavioral therapy. 00:21:18.45\00:21:20.98 I was just thinking that, that explains 00:21:20.99\00:21:23.93 why you know, the book that I've written 00:21:23.94\00:21:25.46 Exalting His Word like affirmation for 00:21:25.47\00:21:28.18 scripture that's what it's 2 Corinthians 10:4 and 5. 00:21:28.19\00:21:32.82 Casting down imagination. 00:21:32.83\00:21:34.24 Casting down those vain imaginations, 00:21:34.25\00:21:36.26 that's right, taking those thoughts captive. 00:21:36.27\00:21:38.56 And the only way you can really take 00:21:38.57\00:21:39.88 a thoughts captive is to replace 00:21:39.89\00:21:42.36 it with another thought. That's right. 00:21:42.37\00:21:43.69 If we're gonna take that thought captive 00:21:43.70\00:21:44.75 and make it obedient to the will of the Lord. 00:21:44.76\00:21:47.24 So as we confess scripture of our 00:21:47.25\00:21:49.62 life and speak scripture of our life that 00:21:49.63\00:21:52.38 practice really is a form I guess of CBT. 00:21:52.39\00:21:55.74 And the ultimate lie is that we can 00:21:55.75\00:21:59.51 generate our own righteousness. 00:21:59.52\00:22:01.86 And the ultimate healing truth is that not just 00:22:01.87\00:22:05.62 that we can generate our own righteousness, 00:22:05.63\00:22:08.23 but the bigger and more blessed truth 00:22:08.24\00:22:10.40 is that there is righteousness available 00:22:10.41\00:22:13.22 from an outside source and that is 00:22:13.23\00:22:14.70 Jesus Christ and he will give it to us freely. 00:22:14.71\00:22:16.92 And I want to make sure I give some balance. 00:22:16.93\00:22:19.50 Always because and I know you agree with this. 00:22:19.51\00:22:21.68 But 1 John, let me say 3:7 and 8. 00:22:21.69\00:22:25.33 I want to read this because we never want to give 00:22:25.34\00:22:28.38 an unbalanced message and this fits rightly 00:22:28.39\00:22:32.22 and perfectly though in 1 John 3:7 and 8 he says 00:22:32.23\00:22:35.23 "Little children, let no one deceive you he who practices 00:22:35.24\00:22:40.15 righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous." 00:22:40.16\00:22:45.34 So there are some people here who try to use this scripture 00:22:45.35\00:22:49.26 and say well see that means that's not 00:22:49.27\00:22:53.03 righteousness by faith, 00:22:53.04\00:22:54.29 that means that, you know, you got... 00:22:54.30\00:22:55.78 You are generating your own righteousness. 00:22:55.79\00:22:57.10 But the point is that we've got to remember 00:22:57.11\00:23:00.21 righteousness I mean all of these scriptures 00:23:00.22\00:23:02.15 lined up that there is only righteousness by faith. 00:23:02.16\00:23:05.68 And what I believe is that as he has imputed 00:23:05.69\00:23:10.44 His righteousness to us which means 00:23:10.45\00:23:12.19 He credited to our account, 00:23:12.20\00:23:13.83 did away with that old account. 00:23:13.84\00:23:15.98 But then He imparts righteousness to us 00:23:15.99\00:23:19.62 and as He imparts as you say 00:23:19.63\00:23:21.86 Christ in His our hope of glory. 00:23:21.87\00:23:23.66 Colossians 1:27. As He imparts that 00:23:23.67\00:23:26.61 righteousness to us, this is what enables us, 00:23:26.62\00:23:30.88 empowers us to act righteously, 00:23:30.89\00:23:33.96 so when you have been made righteous by Christ, 00:23:33.97\00:23:37.02 you are going to Psalm 85:13 said, 00:23:37.03\00:23:39.98 you know, righteousness shall go before Him; 00:23:39.99\00:23:41.59 and make His footsteps a way to follow. 00:23:41.60\00:23:44.13 You are empowered to walk 00:23:44.14\00:23:47.17 in an upright way before the Lord. 00:23:47.18\00:23:49.20 Jesus said "He didn't come to 00:23:49.21\00:23:50.48 abolish the law but to fulfill it." 00:23:50.49\00:23:52.11 Amen. And so the Gospel... 00:23:52.12\00:23:53.59 That means to fill it to the full. 00:23:53.60\00:23:54.77 That's right so the Gospel 00:23:54.78\00:23:55.93 doesn't causes to do away with the law. 00:23:55.94\00:23:58.16 The law has its place in the process of 00:23:58.17\00:24:01.07 embracing righteousness by faith. 00:24:01.08\00:24:02.63 First of all the law shows us our need 00:24:02.64\00:24:05.23 of an outside source of righteousness 00:24:05.24\00:24:06.88 or shows us our need of the Savior 00:24:06.89\00:24:08.97 and so it drives us to the feet of Jesus 00:24:08.98\00:24:12.99 where we receive His righteousness 00:24:13.00\00:24:14.65 and then ultimately it's a faith that 00:24:14.66\00:24:16.96 works by love according to Galatians. 00:24:16.97\00:24:18.95 So we end up actually in our life fulfilling 00:24:18.96\00:24:22.40 the law of love and actually being empowered to obey Him, 00:24:22.41\00:24:26.29 something we never could have done. 00:24:26.30\00:24:28.03 Apart from His in flowed righteousness. 00:24:28.04\00:24:32.16 That's said in 2 Corinthians 12:9, 00:24:32.17\00:24:33.96 "His grace is sufficient, His powers made 00:24:33.97\00:24:36.05 perfect in our weakness". In weakness, Amen. 00:24:36.06\00:24:38.61 You know, I think of Romans Chapter 5 verses 1 and 2 00:24:38.62\00:24:42.10 "Therefore having been justified by faith, 00:24:42.11\00:24:44.75 we have peace with God through 00:24:44.76\00:24:46.02 our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we also 00:24:46.03\00:24:49.30 have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, 00:24:49.31\00:24:53.98 and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God". 00:24:53.99\00:24:56.73 Now we talked at the beginning 00:24:56.74\00:24:57.87 of the program that the standard the 00:24:57.88\00:25:01.75 answer to the question, what is health? 00:25:01.76\00:25:04.34 Is that God created us for His glory, 00:25:04.35\00:25:07.08 so to be truly healthy is to glorify Him 00:25:07.09\00:25:10.07 to be like Him in character, 00:25:10.08\00:25:12.29 Christ within the hope of glory. 00:25:12.30\00:25:14.19 And so justification by faith according to 00:25:14.20\00:25:16.73 Romans 5:1 and 2 leads us to rejoice 00:25:16.74\00:25:20.11 in the hope of the glory of God. 00:25:20.12\00:25:21.77 Finally, I can get to the place 00:25:21.78\00:25:23.86 where I'm actually able to glorify God with my life. 00:25:23.87\00:25:26.62 I was falling down before every which way, 00:25:26.63\00:25:29.18 I was not successful, I was not victorious, 00:25:29.19\00:25:32.59 but when I embraced righteousness by faith, 00:25:32.60\00:25:34.36 the point isn't to let me off 00:25:34.37\00:25:36.11 the hooks, so I can live in sin. 00:25:36.12\00:25:37.84 The point is to empower me, 00:25:37.85\00:25:39.18 so that I can live in obedience. 00:25:39.19\00:25:40.22 Amen. Exactly. Amen. 00:25:40.23\00:25:41.98 And in that same chapter one of my favorite verse 00:25:41.99\00:25:44.03 is Romans 5:17, it says 00:25:44.04\00:25:46.55 "For if, by the one man offense, 00:25:46.56\00:25:48.55 speaking of Adam, death reigned through 00:25:48.56\00:25:51.58 the one much more those who receive abundance of grace 00:25:51.59\00:25:57.95 and of the gift of righteousness will reign 00:25:57.96\00:26:01.36 in life through the one, Jesus Christ." 00:26:01.37\00:26:05.04 Isn't that a beautiful promise 00:26:05.05\00:26:06.53 and that's why this is such an effective therapy 00:26:06.54\00:26:10.57 is because when someone's made aware 00:26:10.58\00:26:13.95 that they had received in abundance of grace 00:26:13.96\00:26:16.14 and the gift of righteousness. 00:26:16.15\00:26:17.93 It puts them in that position 00:26:17.94\00:26:19.76 to reign with Christ, if you are Christ. 00:26:19.77\00:26:21.37 And you know, to make people actually 00:26:21.38\00:26:24.34 safe to save is a miracle. Amen. 00:26:24.35\00:26:27.58 I mean can you imagine bringing 00:26:27.59\00:26:29.04 sinners into heaven right now, 00:26:29.05\00:26:30.38 we defiles heaven all over again. 00:26:30.39\00:26:32.21 But God is in the process of making 00:26:32.22\00:26:33.76 us safe to save just like what you just read. 00:26:33.77\00:26:37.22 So we'll reign in life and we can do it 00:26:37.23\00:26:39.13 responsibly and consciously because 00:26:39.14\00:26:41.19 we've been restored to God's image. 00:26:41.20\00:26:42.69 Now, we only have a minute left, 00:26:42.70\00:26:44.13 tell me in your practice. Yes. 00:26:44.14\00:26:45.90 You've been using. Yes. 00:26:45.91\00:26:47.14 Righteousness by faith therapy. Yeah. 00:26:47.15\00:26:48.73 What kind of results have you seen? 00:26:48.74\00:26:50.01 I'll give you one, I had a client who 00:26:50.02\00:26:51.85 had been coming to therapy for 15 years 00:26:51.86\00:26:54.17 trying to get help and one of the things 00:26:54.18\00:26:56.40 we did was CBT, but also he came to me 00:26:56.41\00:26:58.94 one day and he said I'm not allowed 00:26:58.95\00:27:01.26 to witness to my clients in every contact, 00:27:01.27\00:27:03.47 so I looked on his intake form 00:27:03.48\00:27:05.19 and he said that he that faith was a big part 00:27:05.20\00:27:07.35 of his life and so I asked him about the faith. 00:27:07.36\00:27:09.58 And he said, oh, yes, I believe in God, 00:27:09.59\00:27:11.39 God is so Holy, God is so amazing. 00:27:11.40\00:27:14.11 He said I try to earn God's favor everyday. 00:27:14.12\00:27:17.05 I try to earn His forgiveness everyday. 00:27:17.06\00:27:18.89 I've the privilege of sharing with this man 00:27:18.90\00:27:21.96 of a forgiving Savior from whom you cannot 00:27:21.97\00:27:25.05 earn righteousness to share this message 00:27:25.06\00:27:27.66 that we've been talking about. 00:27:27.67\00:27:29.27 And I had the privilege of doing that 00:27:29.28\00:27:30.67 and in eight sessions he was feeling better 00:27:30.68\00:27:33.71 after 15 years of attending therapy. 00:27:33.72\00:27:35.62 Praise the Lord. Yeah, that's the miracle. 00:27:35.63\00:27:37.95 So Jennifer we're so glad. Yeah. 00:27:37.96\00:27:40.05 I can't believe how time flies when you are here, 00:27:40.06\00:27:41.97 but we're so thankful that 00:27:41.98\00:27:43.41 you came today to share this with us. 00:27:43.42\00:27:46.26 Praise God. It's a wonderful message. 00:27:46.27\00:27:48.32 I do want to remind you that the message 00:27:48.33\00:27:52.29 of righteousness by faith is the message of 00:27:52.30\00:27:55.02 God's healing grace and it will 00:27:55.03\00:27:57.92 instill mental and spiritual health. 00:27:57.93\00:28:01.22 Now please remember that you too as Romans 5:17 says, 00:28:01.23\00:28:06.40 "Can reign in life through Jesus Christ". 00:28:06.41\00:28:09.10
