Yes. 00:03:09.30\00:03:12.85 What we are going to be talking today about a beautiful secret 00:03:12.88\00:03:17.45 that should be in every Christian life 00:03:17.48\00:03:20.17 and it's sad that it's a secret 00:03:20.20\00:03:22.18 but some people don't seem to know why do you feel 00:03:22.21\00:03:25.70 it is so important for us to understand that 00:03:25.73\00:03:29.46 a Christian's heart should be filled with joy and rejoicing. 00:03:29.49\00:03:33.46 The greatest problem in the Christian life 00:03:33.49\00:03:36.80 is in trying, not trusting. Yes. 00:03:36.83\00:03:42.04 And the greatest secret of the Christian life 00:03:42.07\00:03:45.71 is in trusting, not trying. 00:03:45.74\00:03:49.54 Shelley, one time in Southeastern California, 00:03:49.57\00:03:54.01 I was driving into Glendale for a meeting 00:03:54.04\00:03:57.66 and I came off the freeway and you drove up to a place 00:03:57.69\00:04:02.22 where there was a church right across the street 00:04:02.25\00:04:05.36 where you turn and they had a signboard out in front. 00:04:05.39\00:04:09.92 And it was a beautiful saying, 00:04:09.95\00:04:15.20 "When I try I fail, 00:04:15.23\00:04:19.22 when I trust He succeeds." 00:04:19.25\00:04:24.12 That has impacted my life and I have shared that 00:04:24.15\00:04:28.30 so many times with people. 00:04:28.33\00:04:30.61 When I try I fail, when I trust he succeeds. 00:04:30.64\00:04:37.62 And you know, the way I explain it, 00:04:37.65\00:04:40.23 this is a little illustration if you will that the Lord gave me. 00:04:40.26\00:04:45.97 If we try to do something in our human strength we have-- 00:04:46.00\00:04:50.69 it would be like the strength of a little tiny sugar ant. 00:04:50.72\00:04:54.04 You know the kind that are always around at the picnics 00:04:54.07\00:04:56.26 and all and compared to God if you would see a huge elephant, 00:04:56.29\00:05:02.37 millions of times larger than this little ant. 00:05:02.40\00:05:05.50 We can either be trying in our limited human strength 00:05:05.53\00:05:09.13 or trusting in His power, knowing that His strength 00:05:09.16\00:05:12.13 made perfect in our weakness 00:05:12.16\00:05:13.80 and when we finally get yoked with Christ. 00:05:13.83\00:05:18.20 What I see is this elephant and the yoke 00:05:18.23\00:05:21.09 and this little ant carrying us around and He leads us 00:05:21.12\00:05:26.12 in this path of righteousness. 00:05:26.15\00:05:28.50 He leads us in this perfect way where we find joy 00:05:28.53\00:05:32.39 in His presence for ever more. 00:05:32.42\00:05:34.60 And I ask Christians sometime, 00:05:34.63\00:05:38.50 how is your walk with the Lord? 00:05:38.53\00:05:40.66 And they say, well, kind off you know, 00:05:40.69\00:05:44.50 they grit their teeth and well I'm really trying. 00:05:44.53\00:05:47.99 You know what? I'm not sure that their walk is that great. 00:05:48.02\00:05:52.89 You know why? Because we never try hard enough. 00:05:52.92\00:05:57.50 We never try long enough. 00:05:57.53\00:06:01.16 You can just know that things aren't that great 00:06:01.19\00:06:04.15 and you can tell by your conversation with the person, 00:06:04.18\00:06:07.79 you can see it in their face 00:06:07.82\00:06:09.65 whether they are trying or trusting. 00:06:09.68\00:06:13.15 And you know, I know this 00:06:13.18\00:06:14.71 about you Pastor Phil, we are not saying 00:06:14.74\00:06:17.10 and you are not saying that we are not to make 00:06:17.13\00:06:19.41 an effort, I mean-- Oh, no. 00:06:19.44\00:06:21.07 Because the Bible is full of instruction 00:06:21.10\00:06:23.80 about make every effort. 00:06:23.83\00:06:25.51 But what we are saying today 00:06:25.54\00:06:27.81 is not to do this in your own strength. 00:06:27.84\00:06:30.72 You got to put on Christ Jesus and let Him be working 00:06:30.75\00:06:36.41 in you to will and to act according to His good pleasure. 00:06:36.44\00:06:39.10 Yes, and this is what I am saying. 00:06:39.13\00:06:41.68 When we lived in Hawaii, we had ten banana plants in our yard. 00:06:41.71\00:06:48.16 It was so much fun to watch them grow and to pick them. 00:06:48.19\00:06:52.30 And one time on one branch we had over 200 bananas. Mercy. 00:06:52.33\00:06:56.74 How do you eat 200 bananas and-- 00:06:56.77\00:07:00.54 but I never heard of banana plant 00:07:00.57\00:07:03.44 in the night or day straining to grow to produce bananas. 00:07:03.47\00:07:11.06 They just produce bananas because they were banana plants. 00:07:11.09\00:07:16.98 So a trusting Christian, trusting in the 00:07:17.01\00:07:20.63 Lord Jesus Christ believing with Him, walking with Him. 00:07:20.66\00:07:25.28 Filled with the spirit. 00:07:25.31\00:07:26.41 Filled with the spirit, just bears fruit. 00:07:26.44\00:07:31.96 And the fruit of the spirit is love, 00:07:31.99\00:07:33.53 joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness 00:07:33.56\00:07:35.35 and gentleness, humility and soft control so on. 00:07:35.38\00:07:38.87 Amen, all of those and when He is living in me, 00:07:38.90\00:07:43.83 He bears the fruit and He is the one 00:07:43.86\00:07:46.56 that does the fruit bearing. 00:07:46.59\00:07:49.38 You know, you have a saying that kind of intrigued me, 00:07:49.41\00:07:51.81 because you've said you like to talk about 00:07:51.84\00:07:53.62 dressing for success and I think it comes 00:07:53.65\00:07:56.21 from where, Matthew 22. Matthew 22. 00:07:56.24\00:07:58.83 Why don't we turn there, why don't you join us, 00:07:58.86\00:08:01.54 audience and turn to Matthew 22 and let's talk about this. 00:08:01.57\00:08:05.29 My poor Bible is in so many sections now, 00:08:05.32\00:08:09.05 that it's getting difficult for me to find things. 00:08:09.08\00:08:13.40 You may need a new Bible so. 00:08:13.43\00:08:15.27 I have several and I just can't-- 00:08:15.30\00:08:17.81 I can't make this rich. Okay. 00:08:17.84\00:08:20.73 Jesus was talking here in a parable. 00:08:20.76\00:08:24.53 He said in Matthew 22:2, "The kingdom of heaven is like a 00:08:24.56\00:08:29.37 certain king who arranged a marriage for his son." 00:08:29.40\00:08:33.84 And then the parable goes on to tell about all the people 00:08:33.87\00:08:37.17 who were invited and then in verse 11 it says, 00:08:37.20\00:08:42.17 "But when the king came in to see the guests, 00:08:42.20\00:08:46.41 he saw man there who did not have on a wedding garment." 00:08:46.44\00:08:52.66 This is an interesting custom of that time 00:08:52.69\00:08:55.58 and in the parable the king supplies the dress 00:08:55.61\00:09:00.79 that would make the people acceptable 00:09:00.82\00:09:03.92 in the sight of the king. At this big weeding banquet. 00:09:03.95\00:09:07.44 At this big weeding banquet, but one man didn't receive 00:09:07.47\00:09:13.17 the garment that God gave to him. 00:09:13.20\00:09:15.98 He was offered the garment-- 00:09:16.01\00:09:18.27 the king offered him the garment, he refused it. 00:09:18.30\00:09:20.51 Yes. Okay. 00:09:20.54\00:09:21.57 And then in verse 12, So he said to him, 00:09:21.60\00:09:24.86 "The king said to him, 'Friend, how did you come 00:09:24.89\00:09:28.72 in here without a wedding garment?' 00:09:28.75\00:09:31.19 and He was speechless, Then the king said 00:09:31.22\00:09:34.47 to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, 00:09:34.50\00:09:37.26 take him away, and cast him into 00:09:37.29\00:09:39.64 the outer darkness there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, 00:09:39.67\00:09:43.91 For many are called, but few are chosen.'" 00:09:43.94\00:09:47.50 He came in his own garments. 00:09:47.53\00:09:52.55 So when Jesus told this parable about this man. 00:09:52.58\00:09:57.12 How do we make that spiritual application? 00:09:57.15\00:09:59.39 There may be some today that are watching 00:09:59.42\00:10:01.05 who have never heard this parable 00:10:01.08\00:10:04.16 and they will say so what? 00:10:04.19\00:10:06.48 A man showed up without putting on the garment 00:10:06.51\00:10:09.95 the king offered and he got kicked out. 00:10:09.98\00:10:12.79 What is Jesus referring to here? 00:10:12.82\00:10:15.37 He is referring to the fact that in order to be 00:10:15.40\00:10:19.12 at the weeding feast in the kingdom of heaven, 00:10:19.15\00:10:22.27 we must receive the garment that He provide 00:10:22.30\00:10:26.09 which is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 00:10:26.12\00:10:30.16 The perfection of Jesus Christ, the sinlessness of Jesus Christ, 00:10:30.19\00:10:36.97 He perfectly pleased the Father. 00:10:37.00\00:10:40.31 This is the robe, this is the gift that God 00:10:40.34\00:10:45.36 wants to cloth us with, so that we will be dressed for success. 00:10:45.39\00:10:51.65 And He is inviting all if you look in this parable, 00:10:51.68\00:10:54.63 people from all different backgrounds 00:10:54.66\00:10:56.77 and they are same-- the spiritual application 00:10:56.80\00:10:59.53 is God invites all men to be saved. Amen. 00:10:59.56\00:11:02.95 And he is offering them this weeding garment. Yes. 00:11:02.98\00:11:08.01 But some people are refusing to put in on. Yes. 00:11:08.04\00:11:11.54 And the garment is to make them appear acceptable 00:11:11.57\00:11:14.80 to the king and it's something that the king provides. 00:11:14.83\00:11:18.72 Back in Genesis, Shelley, when Adam and Eve sinned, 00:11:18.75\00:11:25.56 then they realize that they were naked 00:11:25.59\00:11:29.88 and their attempt to make themselves appear acceptable 00:11:29.91\00:11:37.13 was to make a garment of fig leaves 00:11:37.16\00:11:41.25 and I have often wondered, you know, 00:11:41.28\00:11:45.21 what would a man of 14 foot tall possibly man, 00:11:45.24\00:11:49.26 appear like in fig leaves. That's quite a picture. 00:11:49.29\00:11:53.11 I think the Bible calls it a little apron, 00:11:53.14\00:11:54.74 so they kind of had a bikini of the fig leaves, didn't they? 00:11:54.77\00:11:57.69 Anyway of something they provided 00:11:57.72\00:11:59.37 for themselves, but in Genesis 3:21 00:11:59.40\00:12:06.40 we have something beautiful. 00:12:06.43\00:12:11.85 Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God 00:12:11.88\00:12:17.48 made tunics of skin, and clothed them. 00:12:17.51\00:12:22.46 Tunic is a long quote. 00:12:22.49\00:12:24.77 The fig leaf syndrome wasn't going to cut it. 00:12:24.80\00:12:29.53 That was their idea. 00:12:29.56\00:12:31.35 God's idea was something that He made for them 00:12:31.38\00:12:34.43 and it took the life evidently of some animal for Him 00:12:34.46\00:12:38.61 to have the skin to cloth them, but the clothing was God's idea. 00:12:38.64\00:12:44.78 And that is really important to me. Amen. 00:12:44.81\00:12:48.12 And there is a text in Zechariah because I want us to get 00:12:48.15\00:12:52.28 a feel that God is always going around covering this up. 00:12:52.31\00:12:58.15 And in Zechariah 3, there is a passage 00:12:58.18\00:13:03.84 from verses 1 to 5. 00:13:03.87\00:13:06.48 "Then he showed me Joshua the high priest 00:13:06.51\00:13:09.20 standing before the angel of the Lord, 00:13:09.23\00:13:12.18 and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 00:13:12.21\00:13:16.31 And the Lord said to Satan, "The Lord rebuke you, Satan! 00:13:16.34\00:13:21.14 The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! 00:13:21.17\00:13:25.45 Is this not a brand pluck from the fire. 00:13:25.48\00:13:29.69 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments 00:13:29.72\00:13:34.69 and was standing before the angel." 00:13:34.72\00:13:36.80 And this is Joshua the high priest? 00:13:36.83\00:13:38.92 He was and even the high priest was clothed in filthy garments. 00:13:38.95\00:13:43.62 Every thing we do is tinged with self. 00:13:43.65\00:13:47.76 Then he answered in verse 4 and spoke to those 00:13:47.79\00:13:50.57 who stood before him saying take away the filthy garments 00:13:50.60\00:13:54.97 from him And to him He said, 00:13:55.00\00:13:57.84 "See, I have removed your iniquity from you, 00:13:57.87\00:14:02.17 and I will clothe you with rich robes." 00:14:02.20\00:14:06.54 And I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." 00:14:06.57\00:14:11.48 So they put a clean turban on his head, 00:14:11.51\00:14:14.36 and they put the clothes on him. 00:14:14.39\00:14:17.08 And the Angel of the Lord stood by." 00:14:17.11\00:14:20.25 A beautiful picture again, Shelley, 00:14:20.28\00:14:23.36 God clothing Joshua the high priest, 00:14:23.39\00:14:27.48 a figure of his clothing every sinner who comes to him 00:14:27.51\00:14:33.11 in his own garments, our own treads, 00:14:33.14\00:14:36.98 our own filthy rags of righteousness 00:14:37.01\00:14:40.23 and God wants to cloth us like He did to the prodigal son. 00:14:40.26\00:14:47.84 The son came to him in his pigpen garments dirty, 00:14:47.87\00:14:54.69 ragged and the very first thing that the father did 00:14:54.72\00:14:59.32 was to take his royal robe took it off and covered up the son. 00:14:59.35\00:15:06.29 Why? Because he didn't want the others to see him 00:15:06.32\00:15:12.29 appearing as he really was, in his pigpen garments. 00:15:12.32\00:15:17.32 He wanted him to appear just right 00:15:17.35\00:15:19.80 and he gave him his own royal robe. 00:15:19.83\00:15:23.25 And all through scripture God is going around covering this up 00:15:23.28\00:15:29.53 with a precious royal robe 00:15:29.56\00:15:32.14 of the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 00:15:32.17\00:15:34.98 Amen, you know, a lot is said about that 00:15:35.01\00:15:37.93 in the Old Testament as well as the New. 00:15:37.96\00:15:40.42 So dressing for success then as Paul put it, 00:15:40.45\00:15:43.81 he said to put off that form away, 00:15:43.84\00:15:46.76 put off that old self and put on Christ Jesus 00:15:46.79\00:15:51.00 in 1 Corinthians 1:30 he said that because of God 00:15:51.03\00:15:55.35 we're in Christ who has become, 00:15:55.38\00:15:57.99 Jesus has become our wisdom from God, 00:15:58.02\00:16:00.61 our righteousness, our sanctification 00:16:00.64\00:16:03.29 and our redemption. All of that. 00:16:03.32\00:16:05.07 So then that setting us up to say, 00:16:05.10\00:16:09.31 is this a true statement, true or false? 00:16:09.34\00:16:12.54 The only righteousness that there is, 00:16:12.57\00:16:15.51 is righteousness by faith? 00:16:15.54\00:16:17.58 Amen, it is so true. 00:16:17.61\00:16:20.20 See only because we don't have anything righteous to offer Him. 00:16:20.23\00:16:24.93 We can't make ourselves righteous 00:16:24.96\00:16:28.89 and so we have to trust in His 00:16:28.92\00:16:32.16 and that's a beautiful gift that He gives us. 00:16:32.19\00:16:35.14 So then the joy of rejoicing is when you accept this 00:16:35.17\00:16:41.05 through your salvation, this assurance of salvation 00:16:41.08\00:16:45.66 and when you recognize that you know 00:16:45.69\00:16:48.90 Paul had so much to say in Romans 7, 00:16:48.93\00:16:51.88 when he would say, you know, 00:16:51.91\00:16:53.24 ah what I want to do I don't do and what I should-- 00:16:53.27\00:16:56.43 you know what I do not want to do, then I do. 00:16:56.46\00:17:00.65 But he says in Romans 8:1 though, 00:17:00.68\00:17:03.91 when he's saying he ends up saying, 00:17:03.94\00:17:06.05 "Who will deliver me from this." 00:17:06.08\00:17:09.46 When he is talking in Romans 7 that's a last verse of Romans 7 00:17:09.49\00:17:12.69 but then he says there-- thank God He will 00:17:12.72\00:17:15.95 because there is now, therefore no condemnation 00:17:15.98\00:17:19.04 for those who are in Christ Jesus. Yes. 00:17:19.07\00:17:21.85 That's where the rejoicing comes. 00:17:21.88\00:17:23.88 That's where the rejoicing comes. 00:17:23.91\00:17:25.87 Do you know when we apply the text that we talked about 00:17:25.90\00:17:30.15 in the previous time, that if we confess our sins, 00:17:30.18\00:17:34.72 he is faithful and just to-- Cleanse us of our sin. 00:17:34.75\00:17:38.22 Still forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us 00:17:38.25\00:17:40.50 from all unrighteousness if you are cleansed from 00:17:40.53\00:17:45.66 all unrighteousness, how clean are you? 00:17:45.69\00:17:48.74 Ha-ha, that's good. 00:17:48.77\00:17:49.92 You know, there is something that I say, 00:17:49.95\00:17:52.19 and it's hard for me to say, I'm as clean as Christ. 00:17:52.22\00:17:57.37 Who that is? 00:17:57.40\00:17:58.80 If I am cleansed from all unrighteousness, 00:17:58.83\00:18:02.86 I'm as clean as Christ. 00:18:02.89\00:18:06.18 You know, someone out here is gonna 00:18:06.21\00:18:07.66 probably take issue with that, but here is what I would say, 00:18:07.69\00:18:11.44 what you are saying lines up with the testimony of the Bible 00:18:11.47\00:18:16.78 and that actually is-- it may sound like if-- 00:18:16.81\00:18:20.84 if someone says, I'm as clean as Christ, 00:18:20.87\00:18:22.89 that may sound like they are exalting themselves. 00:18:22.92\00:18:24.94 But actually that's a statement of humility because as you said, 00:18:24.97\00:18:28.87 it's very difficult to say that but you are saying 00:18:28.90\00:18:33.97 Lord I agree with what You say about me. 00:18:34.00\00:18:37.76 So that shows you exalt God's word 00:18:37.79\00:18:40.18 in His opinion over your own. 00:18:40.21\00:18:42.08 And I never go around and say, 00:18:42.11\00:18:44.75 I'm as clean as Jesus, I don't do that. 00:18:44.78\00:18:50.19 But it's a fact when I accept His life, 00:18:50.22\00:18:54.95 His sinlessness, His righteousness, 00:18:54.98\00:18:58.39 His holiness and then at that point, 00:18:58.42\00:19:02.76 God looks at me as He does to His Son. 00:19:02.79\00:19:05.98 Isn't that amazing? It is so beautiful. 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.15 Now, when we are talking about the joy of rejoicing. 00:19:08.18\00:19:14.65 And I think that you say it rich rejoicing. 00:19:14.68\00:19:18.40 This rich rejoicing begins when you have 00:19:18.43\00:19:23.39 this spiritual burden of guilt that is cut off from you 00:19:23.42\00:19:29.32 as you come to the foot of the cross 00:19:29.35\00:19:31.87 and lay down this burden of guilt. 00:19:31.90\00:19:34.34 When you recognize that you can take Jesus' yoke upon you 00:19:34.37\00:19:38.80 and in doing so, you are going to be yoked with Him. 00:19:38.83\00:19:43.78 And He says, My burden is light 00:19:43.81\00:19:46.08 so He is basically carrying most of the burden. 00:19:46.11\00:19:48.69 So, it's when God cut you free, Psalm 129:4, 00:19:48.72\00:19:52.94 God cut you free from the cord that is binding you, 00:19:52.97\00:19:56.78 that old burden of guilt that's when 00:19:56.81\00:19:59.45 the rejoicing begins, isn't it? 00:19:59.48\00:20:02.09 So many people have read Pilgrim's Progress 00:20:02.12\00:20:06.18 and I love it even it says, I saw in my dream Christian 00:20:06.21\00:20:12.19 walking briskly up a highway 00:20:12.22\00:20:14.56 fenced on both sides with a high wall. 00:20:14.59\00:20:17.98 He began to run, through he could not run fast 00:20:18.01\00:20:22.15 because of the load on his back. 00:20:22.18\00:20:26.50 On top of the hill, he came to a cross. 00:20:26.53\00:20:30.62 And just as he got to the cross, his burden became loose, 00:20:30.65\00:20:36.84 dropped from his shoulders, and went tumbling down the hill. 00:20:36.87\00:20:43.39 It fell into an open grave, and I saw it no more." 00:20:43.42\00:20:48.02 Glory to God. There is something that 00:20:48.05\00:20:49.44 we need to remember. 00:20:49.47\00:20:51.38 He had already accepted Christ, 00:20:51.41\00:20:53.80 he had already started on the way to the kingdom, 00:20:53.83\00:20:56.82 but he had load on his back. 00:20:56.85\00:20:59.90 What was the load? Guilt and condemnation. 00:20:59.93\00:21:03.43 Guilt and condemnation and may be the load 00:21:03.46\00:21:05.90 of trying to do it himself, trying to make himself 00:21:05.93\00:21:11.67 all that he should be, but when he came up 00:21:11.70\00:21:14.58 to the cross, the load fell off his back. 00:21:14.61\00:21:19.02 Martin Luther said, "When I look at myself, 00:21:19.05\00:21:25.05 I don't see how I can be saved, 00:21:25.08\00:21:27.71 when I look at Jesus I don't see how I can be lost." 00:21:27.74\00:21:31.57 Isn't that beautiful? 00:21:31.60\00:21:32.95 And so the focus is upon Jesus 00:21:32.98\00:21:35.83 and that's where the load tumbles off the back. 00:21:35.86\00:21:39.17 It reminds me when Paul was quoting Jesus 00:21:39.20\00:21:42.20 in 2 Corinthians 12:9 and Jesus had told Paul, 00:21:42.23\00:21:46.33 "My grace is sufficient for you, 00:21:46.36\00:21:48.50 for my power is made perfect in your weakness." 00:21:48.53\00:21:52.34 When we get to-- you know, and Paul, 00:21:52.37\00:21:54.14 his rejoicing was he says, I will therefore 00:21:54.17\00:21:56.39 gladly confess my weaknesses before the Lord 00:21:56.42\00:21:59.56 because when I'm am weak, then I am strong 00:21:59.59\00:22:03.04 and you know we all confess our weakness 00:22:03.07\00:22:06.27 and some of us feel like it's a negative confession, 00:22:06.30\00:22:09.46 but if we just go before the Lord, 00:22:09.49\00:22:11.25 it's actually something that He wants us to do, 00:22:11.28\00:22:14.37 to learn to lean on Him. 00:22:14.40\00:22:16.65 Shelley, in our conversation about these beautiful things 00:22:16.68\00:22:21.04 that make our hearts rejoice. 00:22:21.07\00:22:23.39 I want to just be careful as you have been careful. 00:22:23.42\00:22:29.94 Righteous living is the result of righteousness by faith. 00:22:29.97\00:22:35.44 Amen, I'm so glad you brought that. 00:22:35.47\00:22:37.55 Righteous living is the fruit of righteousness. 00:22:37.58\00:22:43.06 Righteous living is what a person does 00:22:43.09\00:22:46.29 when he receives the gift of salvation. Amen. 00:22:46.32\00:22:49.51 Sanctification follows justification and if it doesn't, 00:22:49.54\00:22:55.72 there hasn't been any justification. 00:22:55.75\00:22:58.54 You know, I'm so glad you brought that up, 00:22:58.57\00:23:00.03 because we always want to keep this balanced 00:23:00.06\00:23:01.91 and we are telling one part of the glorious truth 00:23:01.94\00:23:04.30 and this is the second half of that glorious truth 00:23:04.33\00:23:06.96 is as John wrote in 1 John 3:7. 00:23:06.99\00:23:09.83 It says, "Do not be deceived, 00:23:09.86\00:23:13.74 he who practices righteousness is righteous." 00:23:13.77\00:23:18.84 So it's when we've got Christ in us, 00:23:18.87\00:23:21.70 our hope of glory when the Holy Spirit is working in us, 00:23:21.73\00:23:24.59 that power--all power is at work within us. 00:23:24.62\00:23:28.81 He is the one who enables us to walk this path of life. Amen. 00:23:28.84\00:23:35.53 So we must remember I believe, 00:23:35.56\00:23:38.36 the believer does not live righteously 00:23:38.39\00:23:42.20 in order to become righteous, He becomes righteous by faith 00:23:42.23\00:23:48.35 in the righteousness of Christ and then the power of God 00:23:48.38\00:23:53.56 through the Holy Spirit makes the righteous living happen. 00:23:53.59\00:23:58.60 Absolutely, absolutely. 00:23:58.63\00:24:00.92 So important for us to understand. 00:24:00.95\00:24:03.98 Well, we have just a few moments left. 00:24:04.01\00:24:05.98 Why don't you share some of the precious promises 00:24:06.01\00:24:09.70 of the present assurance of salvation 00:24:09.73\00:24:12.94 and the reason the cause for our rejoicing. 00:24:12.97\00:24:17.15 Let me share a real inspired writer, 00:24:17.18\00:24:24.80 "Each one of you may know for yourself 00:24:24.83\00:24:27.72 that you have a living Savior, 00:24:27.75\00:24:29.89 that he is your helper and your God. 00:24:29.92\00:24:33.02 You need not stand where you say, 00:24:33.05\00:24:36.52 'I don't know whether I am saved.' 00:24:36.55\00:24:39.29 Do you believe in Christ as your personal Savior? 00:24:39.32\00:24:43.67 If you do, then rejoice." 00:24:43.70\00:24:48.05 And another statement, "If you are right 00:24:48.08\00:24:51.54 with God today, you are ready 00:24:51.57\00:24:55.31 if Christ should come today." Amen. 00:24:55.34\00:24:59.00 This is so important because life is very uncertain. 00:24:59.03\00:25:04.51 Four years ago I walked three miles a day, 00:25:04.54\00:25:08.24 five days a week, done it for many years, 00:25:08.27\00:25:11.57 and I was walking across a main street in Salem. 00:25:11.60\00:25:15.82 I was in the walk lines, Shelley, 00:25:15.85\00:25:18.66 I want you to know that, it said for me to walk, 00:25:18.69\00:25:22.87 you didn't know that I was doing it just right. 00:25:22.90\00:25:26.90 And about half way across the street, 00:25:26.93\00:25:30.07 I saw a car coming and I said well, 00:25:30.10\00:25:33.92 they see me I'm right here in so they will-- 00:25:33.95\00:25:37.49 they will stop but she didn't see me. Oh, mercy. 00:25:37.52\00:25:42.56 And the next thing I knew I was up on the hood, 00:25:42.59\00:25:46.38 had hit my head on the windshield. 00:25:46.41\00:25:48.93 The lady braked very hard, 00:25:48.96\00:25:50.78 and dumped me off on my back on the wet pavement. 00:25:50.81\00:25:55.04 I was taken to the emergency room in the hospital. 00:25:55.07\00:25:58.29 All kinds of tests, everything was fine. 00:25:58.32\00:26:03.70 I went home, throw away my torn jeans, 00:26:03.73\00:26:07.87 took a shower, dressed and went downtown 00:26:07.90\00:26:10.49 and did errands for couple of hours. 00:26:10.52\00:26:13.07 But that could have been so easily 00:26:13.10\00:26:16.32 the last experience of my life. 00:26:16.35\00:26:19.60 That's incredible that you live through that 00:26:19.63\00:26:21.82 without any injury and it could have been the end. 00:26:21.85\00:26:24.99 But we never know, the time that we have. 00:26:25.02\00:26:30.88 You know, let me ask you this question 00:26:30.91\00:26:33.21 because we are almost out of time. All right. 00:26:33.24\00:26:35.24 And that's so sad, but the inspired writer 00:26:35.27\00:26:37.00 you are speaking off is Ellen White, 00:26:37.03\00:26:39.28 those are both comments from her. 00:26:39.31\00:26:40.97 Didn't she also say something, 00:26:41.00\00:26:43.04 I'm paraphrasing but you can correct me. 00:26:43.07\00:26:45.17 But didn't she also say that if you do not have 00:26:45.20\00:26:49.25 assurance of salvation then you need to be born again? 00:26:49.28\00:26:52.30 Yes, she did and that is-- you know, 00:26:52.33\00:26:55.83 that's pretty, pretty stark statement. 00:26:55.86\00:26:59.65 And it's a beautiful statement, 00:26:59.68\00:27:00.92 I don't know that we can find the reference but, 00:27:00.95\00:27:03.42 I would be happy to supply that to you later. 00:27:03.45\00:27:06.34 You know, I can't believe Pastor Phil, 00:27:06.37\00:27:08.82 how quickly the time passes when you are here, 00:27:08.85\00:27:11.28 but that's because you are a man of rejoicing 00:27:11.31\00:27:13.48 and you make my heart rejoice to just, 00:27:13.51\00:27:15.47 because you share the Lord so well. Praise God. 00:27:15.50\00:27:17.99 Thank you so much for being here. 00:27:18.02\00:27:19.80 It is a privilege, Shelley. Amen. 00:27:19.83\00:27:22.39 You know for those of you at home, 00:27:22.42\00:27:24.06 I hope that you know, Romans 15:13 00:27:24.09\00:27:28.69 God talks about the God of all peace 00:27:28.72\00:27:31.57 who will fill you to over flowing with hope, 00:27:31.60\00:27:35.68 eager expectation by the power of His Holy Spirit. 00:27:35.71\00:27:39.78 I pray that you will turn to the word of God 00:27:39.81\00:27:42.73 and find your reasons for rejoicing today. 00:27:42.76\00:27:45.26 There are so many promises that God wants you to know 00:27:45.29\00:27:49.16 that you can rejoice in the Lord always. Again I'd say Rejoice. 00:27:49.19\00:27:55.68
