Hello I'm Shelley Quinn. 00:00:30.63\00:00:31.92 Welcome again to Issues and Answers. 00:00:31.95\00:00:34.57 We have a special guest joining us from Canada today 00:00:34.60\00:00:38.09 and his name is Herb Larsen. 00:00:38.12\00:00:39.94 Herb is an international businessman and author. 00:00:39.97\00:00:43.21 Author in the making? In the making, that's right. 00:00:43.24\00:00:44.87 An author in the making and you are the president of? 00:00:44.90\00:00:49.06 Imagine Life Media. Imagine Life Media. 00:00:49.09\00:00:52.70 And let me ask you this, 00:00:52.73\00:00:54.30 we had you here for several programs, 00:00:54.33\00:00:56.94 we have been talking about 00:00:56.97\00:00:58.85 friendship evangelism, witnessing, 00:00:58.88\00:01:02.09 but today we are gonna talk about 00:01:02.12\00:01:03.68 something that I like to talk about 00:01:03.71\00:01:05.19 you say that not too many people do discuss this 00:01:05.22\00:01:08.83 and it all comes back to, 00:01:08.86\00:01:10.69 one scripture that we are gonna 00:01:10.72\00:01:11.89 start this out with and that's Romans 8:1 00:01:11.92\00:01:14.03 is what's coming to my mind. 00:01:14.06\00:01:15.56 In Romans 8:1 Paul writes, 00:01:15.59\00:01:17.73 "There is therefore now no condemnation 00:01:17.76\00:01:21.18 for those who are in Christ Jesus, 00:01:21.21\00:01:23.57 who don't walk according to the dictates of the flesh 00:01:23.60\00:01:27.34 but according to the dictates of the Spirit." 00:01:27.37\00:01:29.51 Now, is there condemnation nation 00:01:29.54\00:01:32.89 if you are in Christ? 00:01:32.92\00:01:35.19 Bible says not. 00:01:35.22\00:01:36.42 But what we are gonna be talking about today 00:01:36.45\00:01:37.95 is this guilt that people cannot get rid off 00:01:37.98\00:01:41.51 and there are lot of people suffering from that. 00:01:41.54\00:01:43.72 Absolutely, because guilt you know and it's amazing. 00:01:43.75\00:01:47.09 Guilt isn't even talk about much 00:01:47.12\00:01:48.54 even in the realm of psychology 00:01:48.57\00:01:50.99 or especially spirituality where it should be 00:01:51.02\00:01:53.44 really advent of what's going on. 00:01:53.47\00:01:55.72 And what so damaging about guilt is, 00:01:55.75\00:01:58.01 it ruins the emotionally and intellectually. 00:01:58.04\00:02:00.47 I mean many suicides, 00:02:00.50\00:02:02.05 I mean psychologists will tell us, 00:02:02.08\00:02:03.74 many suicides have caused because people can't resolve 00:02:03.77\00:02:07.41 the pressure put on by guilt and nagging awareness 00:02:07.44\00:02:09.90 that have done something wrong. 00:02:09.93\00:02:12.04 It also affects you spiritually. 00:02:12.07\00:02:15.08 Obviously if guilt keeps getting you down 00:02:15.11\00:02:17.83 it's gonna drive you to legalism 00:02:17.86\00:02:20.45 because if you can't resolve the guilt's 00:02:20.48\00:02:23.10 if you don't feel like you are forgiven 00:02:23.13\00:02:25.45 then you have to adopt some sort of a system 00:02:25.48\00:02:27.47 where I can keep score as to what I am doing 00:02:27.50\00:02:29.71 to try to get rid of that guilt. 00:02:29.74\00:02:31.07 So its one of the major, major things that drive 00:02:31.10\00:02:33.67 people to legalism. 00:02:33.70\00:02:35.05 And you know there is another thing too that guilt 00:02:35.08\00:02:37.30 I used to tell people, if I feel guilty around someone, 00:02:37.33\00:02:39.93 for example let's say that 00:02:39.96\00:02:42.53 you have been trying to contact me for a week 00:02:42.56\00:02:44.61 and I haven't returned your phone call. 00:02:44.64\00:02:47.01 Now I bump into you in the grocery store. 00:02:47.04\00:02:50.35 You don't see me but I see you 00:02:50.38\00:02:51.80 and I heading down the one way 00:02:51.83\00:02:53.62 and you are coming near that I look up and I see you 00:02:53.65\00:02:55.74 and you are looking at something. 00:02:55.77\00:02:58.03 What am I gonna do? Split. 00:02:58.06\00:03:00.12 I am gonna try to avoid you if I can 00:03:00.15\00:03:02.17 because I am thinking I don't want this confrontation. 00:03:02.20\00:03:04.80 If we have, if we allow the devil 00:03:04.83\00:03:08.41 one of his favorite tricks 00:03:08.44\00:03:09.60 is to take a baton of condemnation 00:03:09.63\00:03:12.70 and hand it over to you 00:03:12.73\00:03:13.91 and we are stupid enough that we take it and we just 00:03:13.94\00:03:18.03 hitting ourself over the head with this. 00:03:18.06\00:03:20.61 And what we do when we feel guilty of your own God 00:03:20.64\00:03:23.01 and you find so many people, we off away God. 00:03:23.04\00:03:26.18 We kept praying this much. Perfect analogy. 00:03:26.21\00:03:28.88 So now there is-- there is own guilt, 00:03:28.91\00:03:32.24 I am guilt that you should feel guilty. 00:03:32.27\00:03:33.97 Two kinds of guilt. 00:03:34.00\00:03:35.03 Two kinds of guilt all right let's talk about that. 00:03:35.06\00:03:36.96 Well, the other thing is we have to look at 00:03:36.99\00:03:38.02 what are the damages that we have the emotional, 00:03:38.05\00:03:39.87 we have the spiritual, and the physical. 00:03:39.90\00:03:41.54 I mean Doctor Jeff Low of British study 00:03:41.57\00:03:43.75 that released recently here 00:03:43.78\00:03:45.95 where they measure your immunity 00:03:45.98\00:03:48.50 and they measure the secretory immunoglobulin 'A' 00:03:48.53\00:03:51.44 in your saliva and that's your first defense. 00:03:51.47\00:03:54.05 They call SIgA for short. 00:03:54.08\00:03:56.36 And they said in Great Britain symposium recently in England 00:03:56.39\00:04:01.02 that people with high levels of guilt 00:04:01.05\00:04:03.37 have a reduced, drastically reduce immunity. 00:04:03.40\00:04:07.54 And so not only that but then guilt causes stress 00:04:07.57\00:04:10.37 which--which release stresses hormones 00:04:10.40\00:04:12.15 which also destroys your health. 00:04:12.18\00:04:13.45 So it will destroy you physically, 00:04:13.48\00:04:14.69 emotionally, spiritually. 00:04:14.72\00:04:16.79 The devils come up with a really good one. 00:04:16.82\00:04:18.58 Yes, he has. And the problem is this. 00:04:18.61\00:04:22.02 Where this all start, where it start for me 00:04:22.05\00:04:23.99 to even look into this thing in the first place 00:04:24.02\00:04:25.69 its because I would wake up in the morning 00:04:25.72\00:04:29.04 and say, you know what, I did something wrong, 00:04:29.07\00:04:31.22 I better ask for forgiveness. 00:04:31.25\00:04:32.47 So I would say please forgive me, God, 00:04:32.50\00:04:34.62 please forgive me. 00:04:34.65\00:04:36.20 The next day, I would wake up and its still there. 00:04:36.23\00:04:38.97 So I would have to repeat my, you know, 00:04:39.00\00:04:41.89 request to forgive me again 00:04:41.92\00:04:44.21 and we are just haunt, haunt, haunt. 00:04:44.24\00:04:45.77 And then after a while, because you can't 00:04:45.80\00:04:48.40 get rid of that guilt you tend to think that okay, 00:04:48.43\00:04:51.10 I don't have enough faith 00:04:51.13\00:04:52.20 or may be God is using this as punishment for me, 00:04:52.23\00:04:56.04 may be the angels are pounding me over the head 00:04:56.07\00:04:58.09 or its through my concisions or whatever with this guilt. 00:04:58.12\00:05:00.26 And so you begin to think well, I really deserve this. 00:05:00.29\00:05:02.96 And before long your whole concept of God 00:05:02.99\00:05:04.91 that is to change. 00:05:04.94\00:05:06.63 And then legalism starts to come because, 00:05:06.66\00:05:09.03 because you need to some how keep score of the goods 00:05:09.06\00:05:11.35 and bad's that you do. 00:05:11.38\00:05:12.41 And if you do more goods, 00:05:12.44\00:05:13.74 then you can resolve this guilt. 00:05:13.77\00:05:15.48 But this is all a trap of Satan. Amen. 00:05:15.51\00:05:17.97 And you know not all guilt. 00:05:18.00\00:05:19.11 The Bible says that there is a-- 00:05:19.14\00:05:21.69 God brings us to a godly sorrow. Yes, absolutely. 00:05:21.72\00:05:24.46 And godly sorrow brings repentance, 00:05:24.49\00:05:26.85 worldly sorrow brings death. Absolutely. 00:05:26.88\00:05:29.08 And so, this godly sorrow when the Lord is leading us, 00:05:29.11\00:05:32.97 it's a whole different thing to-- 00:05:33.00\00:05:35.62 instead of guilt lets say there is a conviction of your sin. 00:05:35.65\00:05:38.81 When it's a godly sorrow it's where you know 00:05:38.84\00:05:42.64 you made a mistake 00:05:42.67\00:05:43.93 and God is showing you by the part of this Holy Spirit. 00:05:43.96\00:05:46.87 But its something that brings you forward 00:05:46.90\00:05:49.97 I mean you have that realization 00:05:50.00\00:05:51.43 and you come forward. 00:05:51.46\00:05:52.92 The kind of guilt that we are talking about 00:05:52.95\00:05:54.91 because we want to say 00:05:54.94\00:05:55.97 there is a right time to have godly sorrow 00:05:56.00\00:05:58.51 but the kind of guilt we are talking about 00:05:58.54\00:06:00.47 is that unearned guilt. 00:06:00.50\00:06:01.83 The guilt that should have been, 00:06:01.86\00:06:03.74 I mean, we should not have because we have already said, 00:06:03.77\00:06:06.64 we ask God for forgiveness, 00:06:06.67\00:06:08.33 1 John 1:9 00:06:08.36\00:06:09.91 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful 00:06:09.94\00:06:11.98 and just to forgive us our sins 00:06:12.01\00:06:13.40 and cleanse us of all unrighteousness." 00:06:13.43\00:06:16.61 But this type of nagging of that's hanging on. 00:06:16.64\00:06:19.23 Okay, this is a good point. So, God does give us a guilt. 00:06:19.26\00:06:22.60 He has originals guilt by remorse. 00:06:22.63\00:06:24.41 What is remorse? 00:06:24.44\00:06:25.80 Remorse is when we hurt someone 00:06:25.83\00:06:27.96 the love connection that we have is hurt too. 00:06:27.99\00:06:31.33 If you hurt because I hurt you 00:06:31.36\00:06:33.66 then my love is gonna say, you know, correct that. 00:06:33.69\00:06:37.24 And so that's what God, God's guilt is remorse 00:06:37.27\00:06:39.98 but this is what we got to realize 00:06:40.01\00:06:41.93 there is nothing, God has never instituted 00:06:41.96\00:06:44.09 any thing in the Bible 00:06:44.12\00:06:45.31 the Satan has not come up with a counterfeit. 00:06:45.34\00:06:47.14 That's right. Absolutely, clearly. 00:06:47.17\00:06:49.32 Starting Genesis 1 look all the way through, 00:06:49.35\00:06:50.99 everything God is ever since did in the beginning, 00:06:51.02\00:06:52.64 God created heaven and earth, 00:06:52.67\00:06:53.89 no He didn't it evolved. 00:06:53.92\00:06:55.96 God created you in His image. 00:06:55.99\00:06:57.12 No He didn't, you are in the image of an ape. 00:06:57.15\00:06:59.18 God created male and female had sexuality 00:06:59.21\00:07:01.36 and all this something else. 00:07:01.39\00:07:02.75 And so on and on and on it goes. 00:07:02.78\00:07:05.09 And so when it comes to guilt, 00:07:05.12\00:07:07.32 there is a guilt that God allows 00:07:07.35\00:07:10.32 and that's basically 00:07:10.35\00:07:12.34 when the love connection breaks down 00:07:12.37\00:07:14.60 because God is-- 00:07:14.63\00:07:15.66 all love flows from God through us into the world 00:07:15.69\00:07:19.25 and so when you do wrong things 00:07:19.28\00:07:21.37 that breaks down and sin separates. 00:07:21.40\00:07:23.77 So when you separate it hurts. 00:07:23.80\00:07:26.17 No different in any human relationship. 00:07:26.20\00:07:28.43 So what you have to realize and okay if there is an original 00:07:28.46\00:07:31.32 we know there is going to be a counterfeit 00:07:31.35\00:07:33.04 because Satan is not gonna leave 00:07:33.07\00:07:34.87 something like that undone. Yes. 00:07:34.90\00:07:36.67 So how could use counterfeit work 00:07:36.70\00:07:38.23 that could through us into this huge tizzy? 00:07:38.26\00:07:40.38 And that's what we want to look at little bit is-- 00:07:40.41\00:07:42.07 is it's that counterfeit guilt that we can't get rid off, 00:07:42.10\00:07:47.08 that destroys us emotional, physical and spiritually 00:07:47.11\00:07:51.00 and Satan wants to use that and some of his people won't 00:07:51.03\00:07:53.65 talk about guilt much. 00:07:53.68\00:07:54.71 It's just sort of one of those things that-- 00:07:54.74\00:07:55.77 that kind of sounds bit way out there 00:07:55.80\00:07:57.62 and yet it's very--it's very important to understand. 00:07:57.65\00:07:59.96 Now there is a couple of examples in the Bible. 00:07:59.99\00:08:03.24 One is we look at two characters 00:08:03.27\00:08:05.72 that of Judas and Peter. 00:08:05.75\00:08:08.66 Now the interesting thing is-- 00:08:08.69\00:08:10.26 is their stories are unbelievably parallel? 00:08:10.29\00:08:14.09 If you read about it in Matthew 26, 00:08:14.12\00:08:16.08 the stories are just right down 00:08:16.11\00:08:19.05 both of them were friends of each other 00:08:19.08\00:08:21.48 and we have the stories happen on the same night, 00:08:21.51\00:08:24.55 they betray the same person. 00:08:24.58\00:08:26.10 They were warned they ahead of time 00:08:26.13\00:08:27.18 they were gonna betray and it just goes on and on 00:08:27.21\00:08:30.66 with the different things they both experienced guilt 00:08:30.69\00:08:34.99 and guess what, they both repentance. 00:08:35.02\00:08:36.62 Because, you know, it says in Matthew 27 right here 00:08:36.65\00:08:38.46 it says, "Then Judas, which had betrayed him, 00:08:38.49\00:08:41.12 when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, 00:08:41.15\00:08:43.66 and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to him." 00:08:43.69\00:08:46.45 So he did feel some pressure there. 00:08:46.48\00:08:48.49 Right. And he repented. 00:08:48.52\00:08:50.16 But now okay so all the way through and he is like, 00:08:50.19\00:08:52.85 the pile are different, absolute parallel 00:08:52.88\00:08:54.95 so the story should have ended the same too. 00:08:54.98\00:08:57.44 But it didn't. 00:08:57.47\00:08:58.66 One became a great evangelists for Jesus, 00:08:58.69\00:09:01.91 3, 000 days very shadow healing people Peter. 00:09:01.94\00:09:05.88 And what happened to Judas? 00:09:05.91\00:09:07.06 Hung himself. He went to hang himself. 00:09:07.09\00:09:09.34 The story are so parallel how could that be possible? 00:09:09.37\00:09:11.48 They both, you know? Something destruct me? 00:09:11.51\00:09:13.86 So, it would be a-- an accurate statement to say 00:09:13.89\00:09:17.84 that God's guilt in 2 Corinthians 7:10 says, 00:09:17.87\00:09:21.15 "That God's when he puts this guilt on you, 00:09:21.18\00:09:24.86 the remorse on you, 00:09:24.89\00:09:26.37 it's to lead you to repentance." Absolutely. 00:09:26.40\00:09:29.18 When the devil puts this guilt this accusation, 00:09:29.21\00:09:33.22 accusatory type guilt on you 00:09:33.25\00:09:35.20 it's to drive you further away from God. 00:09:35.23\00:09:38.56 Absolutely, and you-- 00:09:38.59\00:09:39.62 and the very word that you brought up there 00:09:39.65\00:09:41.17 is the key to Satan's guilt. 00:09:41.20\00:09:43.30 Guilt by accusation. Okay. 00:09:43.33\00:09:45.04 See God's it's a-- 00:09:45.07\00:09:47.12 it's a break down of love that creates this hurt, 00:09:47.15\00:09:50.28 with Satan its guilt by accusation. 00:09:50.31\00:09:52.27 And what does we see in Revelation 12, 00:09:52.30\00:09:54.24 what does the Bible say in Revelation 12:10? 00:09:54.27\00:09:56.08 Satan stands before God day and night accusing us. 00:09:56.11\00:10:00.85 So we know-- we know 00:10:00.88\00:10:02.14 and how does the accusation feels 00:10:02.17\00:10:04.00 compared to real guilt? 00:10:04.03\00:10:05.56 Now here is what Satan is really got to figure it out. 00:10:05.59\00:10:07.52 Because if I said you are the person 00:10:07.55\00:10:09.47 who burnt down the school house, 00:10:09.50\00:10:11.71 you started the fire to burn it down 00:10:11.74\00:10:13.14 and you didn't do it. 00:10:13.17\00:10:15.07 And so I said oh, no Shelley did it. 00:10:15.10\00:10:17.36 Well, now, all of a sudden rises on you. 00:10:17.39\00:10:18.90 Oh yeah, she did it, she did it. 00:10:18.93\00:10:20.31 What do you feel like? 00:10:20.34\00:10:21.37 Don't you feel guilty even though you didn't do it? 00:10:21.40\00:10:22.92 It's because the condemning finger is pointing at you 00:10:22.95\00:10:25.13 so you get that sense of hurt, that sense of emptiness, 00:10:25.16\00:10:29.10 that sense of rejection that comes along with, 00:10:29.13\00:10:31.43 you know in shame, that comes along with guilt. 00:10:31.46\00:10:33.60 It feels the same. 00:10:33.63\00:10:35.66 And so--so how do you deal with it then? 00:10:35.69\00:10:38.35 I mean so this is what Satan is gonna do. 00:10:38.38\00:10:39.98 He is going to accuse you. 00:10:40.01\00:10:41.04 Now here is the way, he is like a schoolyard boy. 00:10:41.07\00:10:44.11 He comes up to me leads me to sin. 00:10:44.14\00:10:46.02 He is one who leads me into sin, 00:10:46.05\00:10:47.35 and the second day sin what does he do? 00:10:47.38\00:10:48.83 He runs and tells this to God. 00:10:48.86\00:10:52.15 I mean this happened to me in the schoolyard. 00:10:52.18\00:10:53.75 You know, kids would say well, go behind the back 00:10:53.78\00:10:55.93 and smoke a cigarette 00:10:55.96\00:10:57.23 or do whatever else. So you take a puff. 00:10:57.26\00:10:58.67 Now right away the teacher hears about it. 00:10:58.70\00:11:00.19 You know, I mean that's the way Satan is. 00:11:00.22\00:11:02.31 And so, what he does then 00:11:02.34\00:11:04.53 but he doesn't like go that accusation. 00:11:04.56\00:11:06.24 Even though I may get punished for that 00:11:06.27\00:11:08.11 or I may or the teacher may just have grace 00:11:08.14\00:11:10.24 and say okay, don't do it again. 00:11:10.27\00:11:12.70 The bully is not going to let up 00:11:12.73\00:11:14.63 because he knows 00:11:14.66\00:11:15.94 that if he can thrown my sin in my face, 00:11:15.97\00:11:19.54 that it's gonna put my head down. 00:11:19.57\00:11:21.03 It's gonna separate me, 00:11:21.06\00:11:22.24 the sin separates we are told is Isaiah. 00:11:22.27\00:11:24.64 So sin separates 00:11:24.67\00:11:26.05 and the shame of guilt separates too 00:11:26.08\00:11:28.44 to the point where you can't no longer see God 00:11:28.47\00:11:30.02 and he is got a its an incredible deceitful things 00:11:30.05\00:11:33.17 he is got to figure it out here. Amen. 00:11:33.20\00:11:34.81 Because he holds the sin in front of our face. 00:11:34.84\00:11:37.38 Now, how can he do that? 00:11:37.41\00:11:39.67 So if you look at the mechanics of forgiveness 00:11:39.70\00:11:41.83 because that's what all starts. 00:11:41.86\00:11:43.48 We just, you just quoted for us in John 1:9 00:11:43.51\00:11:45.98 it says, if we confess our sins. 00:11:46.01\00:11:47.74 Now there's an interesting thing about confession. 00:11:47.77\00:11:50.80 Lot of times its easy to say, 00:11:50.83\00:11:52.39 forgive me of my sins that night. 00:11:52.42\00:11:55.05 It's just asking you to take care of it. 00:11:55.08\00:11:56.67 You know cover me, that's fine 00:11:56.70\00:11:57.84 but you know what, this is sin confess. 00:11:57.87\00:12:00.73 It says, bring him out in the opened 00:12:00.76\00:12:02.91 that's what confession means. 00:12:02.94\00:12:04.19 And I think God has a student 00:12:04.22\00:12:05.53 because if we don't know-- 00:12:05.56\00:12:07.92 it's like we are not really recognizing, 00:12:07.95\00:12:09.97 I mean when you start confessing your sins, 00:12:10.00\00:12:12.12 you know, Lord, show me 00:12:12.15\00:12:13.18 how it found short of Your glory. 00:12:13.21\00:12:14.82 And He start showing you oops, 00:12:14.85\00:12:16.92 I didn't mean to gossip. 00:12:16.95\00:12:18.64 Oops, I have this judgmental thought. 00:12:18.67\00:12:21.26 And you confess it, it's like you really understand 00:12:21.29\00:12:24.61 as you are saying Lord, you are right. 00:12:24.64\00:12:26.27 I was judgmental today, forgive me. 00:12:26.30\00:12:28.68 You know, I know its against, 00:12:28.71\00:12:30.34 its something that it changes your heart 00:12:30.37\00:12:33.55 to go before the loving God 00:12:33.58\00:12:35.31 and to say I know this wasn't like your nature 00:12:35.34\00:12:38.74 and it makes you--I mean it's a growing process. 00:12:38.77\00:12:41.01 Confession is very much of growing process. 00:12:41.04\00:12:42.77 Absolutely, and the other thing is that 00:12:42.80\00:12:44.18 once you have confessed 00:12:44.21\00:12:45.64 like today and tomorrow the temptation comes 00:12:45.67\00:12:47.64 to lie again or whatever it is. 00:12:47.67\00:12:50.10 If I brought it out in the open 00:12:50.13\00:12:52.24 in humility the night before 00:12:52.27\00:12:53.83 and says please forgive this is what I did. 00:12:53.86\00:12:56.79 And I'm going to think twice about 00:12:56.82\00:12:59.53 that when the temptation comes again, 00:12:59.56\00:13:00.72 yes, I am going to think twice 00:13:00.75\00:13:02.00 because I brought it out in the open the night before. 00:13:02.03\00:13:04.14 And I share a story you're gonna love this one. 00:13:04.17\00:13:06.64 A pastor down in Huston was said that 00:13:06.67\00:13:09.87 he just really had a problem with exaggerating. 00:13:09.90\00:13:12.52 And so he said to--he made-- he prayed with the Lord. 00:13:12.55\00:13:16.00 The Lord-- he called it exaggeration 00:13:16.03\00:13:17.98 the Lord said no its lie. 00:13:18.01\00:13:20.10 So, he prayed to the Lord 00:13:20.13\00:13:21.89 and the Lord really impressed him 00:13:21.92\00:13:24.38 that from then on no matter where he was 00:13:24.41\00:13:26.82 that if he exaggerated he was to confess that it was a lie. 00:13:26.85\00:13:30.16 So he is in the pulpit and he is telling this story 00:13:30.19\00:13:32.83 and he just stops and he says I have to confess 00:13:32.86\00:13:35.73 I just exaggerated, excuse me. 00:13:35.76\00:13:36.95 No, I have tell you I just lied to you. 00:13:36.98\00:13:39.40 So it happened in a couple of weeks later 00:13:39.43\00:13:41.53 he is in pulpit and he has to say, 00:13:41.56\00:13:44.25 I am sorry that was a lie. 00:13:44.28\00:13:46.11 I mean that God told him just to be blunt about it. 00:13:46.14\00:13:48.66 And he said, let me tell you Shelley, 00:13:48.69\00:13:50.28 after two times confessing 00:13:50.31\00:13:51.96 to your congregation that you lied to. 00:13:51.99\00:13:53.59 He said you know what, 00:13:53.62\00:13:55.05 God cured me of telling these tails 00:13:55.08\00:13:58.33 and letting them grow as I told them. 00:13:58.36\00:14:00.45 And so there is something about confession 00:14:00.48\00:14:02.26 as you said that it brings 00:14:02.29\00:14:04.43 this--the painfulness of your sin to you to. 00:14:04.46\00:14:07.47 You recognize you are sinning against God, 00:14:07.50\00:14:09.50 but it makes you much more aware of you know, 00:14:09.53\00:14:12.56 you really do have an honest heart in saying Lord 00:14:12.59\00:14:15.35 grant me repent from this I want to turn away from it. 00:14:15.38\00:14:17.94 Yeah, it's because if you don't confront the issue. 00:14:17.97\00:14:19.70 Yeah. And head on so that it hurts 00:14:19.73\00:14:22.30 and it's shameful and it's humbling. 00:14:22.33\00:14:24.90 There is no-- no need for going. 00:14:24.93\00:14:26.65 So that's what--if you confess God is gonna forgive. 00:14:26.68\00:14:29.65 So what's involved in the forgiveness thing? 00:14:29.68\00:14:31.61 If you look at Hebrews 8 and Hebrews 12 it tells us this, 00:14:31.64\00:14:35.13 what happens to God? 00:14:35.16\00:14:36.53 God will forgive and forget. 00:14:36.56\00:14:38.90 Absolutely. And I find that really amazing 00:14:38.93\00:14:42.16 because how can-- how can a God with a mind 00:14:42.19\00:14:45.19 like His forget something like that? 00:14:45.22\00:14:47.66 And so-- but it's a statement of fact. 00:14:47.69\00:14:51.14 It's not a--may be it is a fact God will forgive 00:14:51.17\00:14:54.39 and He will forget. 00:14:54.42\00:14:55.63 So that's what happens to him. 00:14:55.66\00:14:57.29 So now the real problem is what happens to me? 00:14:57.32\00:14:59.32 Why do I wake up the next morning 00:14:59.35\00:15:00.61 with the same nagging guilt there? 00:15:00.64\00:15:03.44 It's because what supposed to happen to me may not 00:15:03.47\00:15:06.69 have happened either or I am responding to Satan. 00:15:06.72\00:15:10.90 And so if you look at Hebrews 9 00:15:10.93\00:15:13.47 it gives us-- it gives us an example. 00:15:13.50\00:15:16.57 Here it says "For I will 00:15:16.60\00:15:17.63 be merciful to their unrighteousness," 00:15:17.66\00:15:18.90 Which verse you are reading? Verse--Hebrews 9 00:15:18.93\00:15:23.81 Well we are here, well 14, Okay 9:14 00:15:23.84\00:15:27.03 It says, "How much more 00:15:27.06\00:15:29.82 shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit 00:15:29.85\00:15:31.91 offered himself without spot to God, 00:15:31.94\00:15:33.92 purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God." 00:15:33.95\00:15:36.76 He is gonna purge something. What is the meaning to purge? 00:15:36.79\00:15:38.53 It means to get rid of it. 00:15:38.56\00:15:39.61 And want little more clear situation move on over 00:15:39.64\00:15:41.41 little bit to 10:2, Hebrew 10:2 it says this 00:15:41.44\00:15:47.54 "For then would they not have ceased to be offered? 00:15:47.57\00:15:49.84 Because," here is the because part, 00:15:49.87\00:15:51.78 "that the worshippers once purged 00:15:51.81\00:15:53.56 should have had no more conscience of sins." 00:15:53.59\00:15:57.82 Yeah, and the way it says in the amplifier 00:15:57.85\00:15:59.07 is so that they would no longer 00:15:59.10\00:16:00.43 have any guilt or consciousness of sin. 00:16:00.46\00:16:02.54 See so, okay so these are God's promises now. 00:16:02.57\00:16:05.57 Amen. And they are facts. 00:16:05.60\00:16:08.09 Let me share a thought with you real quick, 00:16:08.12\00:16:09.63 because I don't know if you are aware 00:16:09.66\00:16:10.74 of the scripture but this was life changing. 00:16:10.77\00:16:12.60 I mean, I read all of these scriptures 00:16:12.63\00:16:13.83 about how He is going to, you know, 00:16:13.86\00:16:16.01 come let us reason together Isaiah 1 where He says 00:16:16.04\00:16:19.28 "Though your sins be as scarlet, 00:16:19.31\00:16:21.56 I will make them white as snow." 00:16:21.59\00:16:22.95 And then He says, I'm gonna cast him 00:16:22.98\00:16:24.22 as far as that east is from the west and all this things." 00:16:24.25\00:16:27.89 But still it kept coming up to me to till I found 00:16:27.92\00:16:30.39 this scripture 1 Kings 14:8 and this is where God is, 00:16:30.42\00:16:35.45 told his Jeroboam's wife comes to the prophet of God 00:16:35.48\00:16:39.17 and God tells the prophet to tell her, 00:16:39.20\00:16:41.09 you go tell Jeroboam-- and by the way 00:16:41.12\00:16:44.37 this is Jeroboam's now the king and this is after 00:16:44.40\00:16:46.81 David-- David's death, King David. 00:16:46.84\00:16:49.62 "You go, tell Jeroboam, 'Thus says the Lord of Israel,' 00:16:49.65\00:16:52.55 'Because I exalted you from among the people, 00:16:52.58\00:16:54.18 and made you leader over My people Israel, 00:16:54.21\00:16:56.22 and took the kingdom away from the house of David, 00:16:56.25\00:16:59.35 and gave it to you, and yet you have not been 00:16:59.38\00:17:02.21 as My servant David, who" this is God speaking about 00:17:02.24\00:17:06.50 David after he died "who kept My commandments 00:17:06.53\00:17:10.46 and who followed Me with all his heart, 00:17:10.49\00:17:13.37 to do only what was right before My eyes." 00:17:13.40\00:17:17.21 I'm sitting there, I am looking at this 00:17:17.24\00:17:18.81 and I am thinking, you got to be kidding. 00:17:18.84\00:17:21.73 God is speaking saying that David did only what was right 00:17:21.76\00:17:25.27 before his eyes, kept all of his commandments. 00:17:25.30\00:17:27.37 David was guilty of breaking them all, 00:17:27.40\00:17:29.56 break one, break them all but I mean. 00:17:29.59\00:17:31.26 Absolutely. He was guilty, 00:17:31.29\00:17:33.33 he was coveting and adultery, murder, you know, 00:17:33.36\00:17:37.51 go write on down, and then it turned on me God 00:17:37.54\00:17:42.48 forget what we ask Him to forgive. 00:17:42.51\00:17:44.64 He really does, you know, in Psalm 51 is the record. 00:17:44.67\00:17:48.12 Psalm 51 is the record of David's repentance 00:17:48.15\00:17:51.79 after his adulterous relationship with Bathsheba 00:17:51.82\00:17:56.27 and he is saying, "blot out my sins and my iniquities." 00:17:56.30\00:18:01.84 God literally-- the scripture says, 00:18:01.87\00:18:04.49 that He blot some out like a cloud for his own name sake 00:18:04.52\00:18:08.62 he-- He covers them all for. 00:18:08.65\00:18:10.33 And it is for his benefit? 00:18:10.36\00:18:11.47 Yeah, so that He doesn't have to look at us and just say, 00:18:11.50\00:18:15.61 ah you are been a good girl now, 00:18:15.64\00:18:17.08 but I remember what it use to be like. 00:18:17.11\00:18:19.00 Absolutely, that is a good point, 00:18:19.03\00:18:20.06 because that is after the fact and so God doesn't remember it. 00:18:20.09\00:18:22.98 We can remember it because we look back 00:18:23.01\00:18:24.61 on the records and say, oh yeah, well he did this, he did that. 00:18:24.64\00:18:27.06 But in God's heart-- so that's the point 00:18:27.09\00:18:29.68 is what is wrong with the formula then, 00:18:29.71\00:18:33.54 if God says, if confess I will forgive, 00:18:33.57\00:18:37.14 I will forget and you will forget. 00:18:37.17\00:18:41.57 So how come it comes back after me the next day again. 00:18:41.60\00:18:43.79 Is my faith not such that I can believe 00:18:43.82\00:18:45.47 in God's promises, is God not caring through 00:18:45.50\00:18:48.98 with His promises or is it Satan keeping record 00:18:49.01\00:18:54.63 yet and he is one throwing it back into my face? 00:18:54.66\00:18:57.84 Yeah. And he brings that back 00:18:57.87\00:19:00.13 in my face because, if I want to dwell 00:19:00.16\00:19:02.04 in something that-- because I am not gonna listen 00:19:02.07\00:19:04.09 to the Bible's promises and the Bibles claims its facts 00:19:04.12\00:19:08.67 and I start focusing on the fact 00:19:08.70\00:19:10.72 that I got the sin, I got to rid of it. 00:19:10.75\00:19:12.09 I got the sin, I got to rid of it. 00:19:12.12\00:19:13.28 You know, I just can't handle 00:19:13.31\00:19:14.54 any more its ruining my health, its ruining everything 00:19:14.57\00:19:16.97 I'm going to start adopting legalism even though 00:19:17.00\00:19:19.28 we don't--you know, well say that. 00:19:19.31\00:19:21.22 We start pick up things, some people take up diets, 00:19:21.25\00:19:23.36 some takes other behavioral things 00:19:23.39\00:19:25.10 whatever, whatever we think 00:19:25.13\00:19:26.16 we can handle in terms of set of rules 00:19:26.19\00:19:27.49 we adopt it Pharisees were great at it. 00:19:27.52\00:19:30.15 Then we say okay, today I didn't do this, 00:19:30.18\00:19:31.72 didn't do that, dint do that. 00:19:31.75\00:19:33.92 And so I feel good about myself because I accomplish it, 00:19:33.95\00:19:36.54 so we use legalism as a score keeping card 00:19:36.57\00:19:41.17 to overcome something Satan has thrown at. 00:19:41.20\00:19:43.51 Define for us, what-- I mean because 00:19:43.54\00:19:46.63 different people use that word legalism. 00:19:46.66\00:19:48.59 Some people think legalism just means to obey 00:19:48.62\00:19:51.09 the Commandments of God which obviously is not. 00:19:51.12\00:19:53.27 No, absolutely. I mean that's not 00:19:53.30\00:19:55.25 what you're talking about, but-- 00:19:55.28\00:19:56.82 It could be if--if-- If they think 00:19:56.85\00:19:59.17 they are gonna earn their salvation through keeping 00:19:59.20\00:20:00.99 the commandments because you can not earn your salvation. 00:20:01.02\00:20:04.13 That's right. It's a gift from God. 00:20:04.16\00:20:05.58 Now but what you are saying is to become forsake 00:20:05.61\00:20:09.87 where you have all these little rules and regulations 00:20:09.90\00:20:13.65 the traditions of man and its like you know, 00:20:13.68\00:20:16.25 get rid of my hair, straight back in a bun 00:20:16.28\00:20:18.72 and put my people always laugh when I say 00:20:18.75\00:20:20.66 this but you know, wear the longest skirts, 00:20:20.69\00:20:22.45 I do wear long skirts because I like long skirts 00:20:22.48\00:20:24.83 but you know there is some people that, 00:20:24.86\00:20:26.61 you know you got the little nine year old child 00:20:26.64\00:20:29.66 that has to have the skirt all the way down 00:20:29.69\00:20:31.29 to and they think that by making the external as Holy 00:20:31.32\00:20:37.35 as they can think to make it, that they are doing something 00:20:37.38\00:20:40.32 for God whereas what God wants 00:20:40.35\00:20:43.01 to do is to wash us from the inside. 00:20:43.04\00:20:44.94 It's the new covenant. 00:20:44.97\00:20:46.00 He wants to change the heart, 00:20:46.03\00:20:47.47 so there is no desire there to do it. 00:20:47.50\00:20:49.12 Okay, you know, you made a comment 00:20:49.15\00:20:51.10 that God forgets and that we will forget our sin. 00:20:51.13\00:20:54.28 But actually, we really don't forget our sin. 00:20:54.31\00:20:57.17 I think God has, you know, like we talk about 00:20:57.20\00:21:00.48 forgiving and forgetting He does. 00:21:00.51\00:21:02.82 We forgive but we are not able to forget yet, 00:21:02.85\00:21:05.54 and I think may be it's because God is leading 00:21:05.57\00:21:07.45 that for a protective measure that someone else 00:21:07.48\00:21:10.34 can't take advantage of us. 00:21:10.37\00:21:12.07 We know to, you know, may be they have to earn 00:21:12.10\00:21:14.91 their respect of trust again but also for our own self 00:21:14.94\00:21:18.94 that we may not forget that sin so that we won't fall back 00:21:18.97\00:21:22.64 into that sneer, yet what God does is through 00:21:22.67\00:21:25.70 the forgiveness process, He washes away 00:21:25.73\00:21:27.87 the gilt and condemnation. 00:21:27.90\00:21:29.56 We can remember this sin 00:21:29.59\00:21:31.05 and talk about it, give testament. 00:21:31.08\00:21:32.79 You see people who are in love with the Lord right now. 00:21:32.82\00:21:35.00 Yeah. Like Sherry Peters 00:21:35.03\00:21:36.47 is coming to my mind. 00:21:36.50\00:21:37.81 She can get up and talk about 00:21:37.84\00:21:39.51 when she was on the streets doing drugs, 00:21:39.54\00:21:42.34 was a poll dancer whatever, and she can talk about 00:21:42.37\00:21:45.98 that without guilt and remorse and condemnation 00:21:46.01\00:21:49.84 because God's brought her so far. 00:21:49.87\00:21:52.50 That's what gives her testimony. 00:21:52.53\00:21:54.09 Absolutely and that's what it says. 00:21:54.12\00:21:55.26 It says, it will purge your conscience. 00:21:55.29\00:21:57.04 That's the area where guilt resides 00:21:57.07\00:22:00.00 and where guilt draws you down. 00:22:00.03\00:22:01.78 And in course the other one we just read 00:22:01.81\00:22:03.30 in Hebrew 10:2 it says, "The worshipers 00:22:03.33\00:22:07.21 once purged should have had no more consciousness of sins." 00:22:07.24\00:22:09.66 Doesn't mean you don't remember that your sinful past 00:22:09.69\00:22:12.54 but it's no longer gonna haunt you, 00:22:12.57\00:22:14.72 its not gonna drag you down, 00:22:14.75\00:22:16.02 it's not gonna drive you legalism, 00:22:16.05\00:22:17.34 its not gonna sin separate you from God. 00:22:17.37\00:22:20.39 Because see sin held in your face is nothing 00:22:20.42\00:22:22.90 but an umbrella of separation between you and the father. 00:22:22.93\00:22:25.57 Yes, yes and so Satan is effectively used that 00:22:25.60\00:22:29.41 and so how do you get rid of it? 00:22:29.44\00:22:31.01 Well, first of all we have to constantly 00:22:31.04\00:22:33.14 go back to the mechanics of forgiveness. 00:22:33.17\00:22:35.28 The mechanics, you know, I hate to put it down 00:22:35.31\00:22:36.98 and in such mechanical terms 00:22:37.01\00:22:38.37 but the mechanics of forgiveness. 00:22:38.40\00:22:40.30 You confess His faith and just to forgive. 00:22:40.33\00:22:44.34 He is gonna forget those sins and bury them 00:22:44.37\00:22:46.42 as far as the east is from the west, 00:22:46.45\00:22:47.57 you said and in the bottom of the ocean. 00:22:47.60\00:22:50.20 Places back then they couldn't even comprehend 00:22:50.23\00:22:52.70 that they come back and then he is gonna subdue 00:22:52.73\00:22:55.20 our minds of the impact of that sin. 00:22:55.23\00:22:59.39 Yeah, we could still remember what we did, 00:22:59.42\00:23:00.55 its not going to raise our memory but it's going to raise 00:23:00.58\00:23:03.14 the pressure and the power of that. 00:23:03.17\00:23:05.26 So that when it comes up to next day after you have asked 00:23:05.29\00:23:08.21 for forgiveness and now you haven't to regurgitate 00:23:08.24\00:23:10.50 this bad thing that's happened 00:23:10.53\00:23:12.64 and now you have to try to deal with that again. 00:23:12.67\00:23:14.67 We should be able to recognize where this is coming from 00:23:14.70\00:23:18.67 and then know how to deal with it. 00:23:18.70\00:23:19.88 If you know Satan is throwing it on your face, 00:23:19.91\00:23:21.50 what do you do? What did Jesus say when Satan tempted, 00:23:21.53\00:23:23.31 or when Satan did-- said, be behind me. 00:23:23.34\00:23:25.39 It is written. And we have 00:23:25.42\00:23:27.56 and this is written and we have every right 00:23:27.59\00:23:30.77 to rebuke Satan in the name of Jesus and by the power 00:23:30.80\00:23:33.18 and the blood that he spilled on Calvary. 00:23:33.21\00:23:34.94 So when that sin comes back-- 00:23:34.97\00:23:36.18 Could I just tweak that just a little bit? 00:23:36.21\00:23:37.86 Yeah. See I believe that even when, 00:23:37.89\00:23:41.90 Jesus was rebuking Satan, he said 00:23:41.93\00:23:44.60 the Lord rebuke ou he said. 00:23:44.63\00:23:46.10 I believe we have every right to say the Lord, rebuke it. 00:23:46.13\00:23:49.44 But I don't think. Wait, wait, 00:23:49.47\00:23:50.50 yeah but you now believe 00:23:50.53\00:23:51.56 what the power there is Jesus, the power is great. 00:23:51.59\00:23:54.21 So absolutely, so the point 00:23:54.24\00:23:55.45 is this we can rid ourselves of that hideous imitation guilt 00:23:55.48\00:24:01.30 that guilt that's a counterfeit. 00:24:01.33\00:24:05.09 It's an accusation. 00:24:05.12\00:24:06.34 I mean, I had people when they heard this. 00:24:06.37\00:24:07.74 I mean, I had a little old lady not too long ago, 00:24:07.77\00:24:10.94 3-4 years ago in the South Pacific, 00:24:10.97\00:24:13.24 I won't say where. 00:24:13.27\00:24:14.49 But anyway she came up she is probably 00:24:14.52\00:24:15.95 in her mid 70s when I share this and she came up 00:24:15.98\00:24:18.96 and she is crying to me and she says, 00:24:18.99\00:24:20.28 young man she says is that true? 00:24:20.31\00:24:23.07 That the words that Jesus and I said absolutely. 00:24:23.10\00:24:26.87 God is forgiven you and she told me about 00:24:26.90\00:24:28.50 how she had an affair with her best friend's husband 00:24:28.53\00:24:30.35 25 years early and she says we are still best friends. 00:24:30.38\00:24:32.52 He died-- her wife's husband. 00:24:32.55\00:24:36.14 She says there hasn't been a day, 00:24:36.17\00:24:38.13 in the last 25 years where that hasn't haunted me. 00:24:38.16\00:24:41.18 Bless her heart. 00:24:41.21\00:24:42.39 And she says for the first time in my life 00:24:42.42\00:24:44.01 I can say clear of it. 00:24:44.04\00:24:45.88 And you know, that's what in my life 00:24:45.91\00:24:47.12 was may be not to same level as that but the guilt 00:24:47.15\00:24:49.71 just kept calm pounding and haunting me until 00:24:49.74\00:24:51.69 I had to go in the Bible and pray down the Holy Spirit 00:24:51.72\00:24:54.53 to give me discernment to understand what is wrong. 00:24:54.56\00:24:57.94 Right. And when I recognized 00:24:57.97\00:25:00.05 that it's just another counterfeit meant to destroy us, 00:25:00.08\00:25:03.33 spiritually and addition to that emotionally 00:25:03.36\00:25:05.69 and physically as well. 00:25:05.72\00:25:08.09 I began to lay more claims to the Bible. 00:25:08.12\00:25:11.86 Amen. On that and it liberating me. 00:25:11.89\00:25:14.94 Hebrews 10:2, how does it read in your new Bible? 00:25:14.97\00:25:17.08 It says, "The worshippers once purged 00:25:17.11\00:25:19.07 should have had no more consciousness of sins." 00:25:19.10\00:25:21.39 No more consciousness of sin. 00:25:21.42\00:25:22.62 I was thinking if we are not purged of this guilt 00:25:22.65\00:25:26.34 and condemnation instead of having 00:25:26.37\00:25:29.38 no more consciousness of sin and a cleanse consciousness. 00:25:29.41\00:25:33.72 What we end up with can be a seared consciousness. 00:25:33.75\00:25:36.99 You know, you think of-- I was thinking of some stories 00:25:37.02\00:25:38.90 I have heard of Hells Angels who have sinned 00:25:38.93\00:25:42.01 so much that they get to the point where they feel, 00:25:42.04\00:25:45.19 I mean I heard a story about a man who believed in God 00:25:45.22\00:25:48.19 but he become Hells Angels and sinned so much 00:25:48.22\00:25:51.65 that his consciousness became seared 00:25:51.68\00:25:54.31 by this and he kept thinking, God can't forgive me. 00:25:54.34\00:25:57.31 I may as well I've done it all I may as well keep doing it. 00:25:57.34\00:26:00.71 And so there is that affect as well which is the absolute 00:26:00.74\00:26:04.79 polar opposite what God wants to do. 00:26:04.82\00:26:07.61 He wants to bring us before Him, bring us to that godly sorrow 00:26:07.64\00:26:11.80 and get us to confess and ask Him, 00:26:11.83\00:26:15.06 either way you got to ask God to forgiveness 00:26:15.09\00:26:17.63 because Acts 5:32 says, 00:26:17.66\00:26:20.50 it is God who grants forgiveness. 00:26:20.53\00:26:23.41 So you got to say Lord, give me the power 00:26:23.44\00:26:25.52 to turn away from the sin. 00:26:25.55\00:26:27.50 Work in me to willing to act according to your good purpose, 00:26:27.53\00:26:29.97 complete the good work You've began in me. 00:26:30.00\00:26:32.17 And trust that God is gonna be God, He is so merciful. 00:26:32.20\00:26:36.11 And what did Jesus do for us? 00:26:36.14\00:26:37.61 That's the foundation of it all. 00:26:37.64\00:26:39.59 Absolutely. I mean you know, 00:26:39.62\00:26:41.45 when He died in that cross, He deserved to die. 00:26:41.48\00:26:44.06 You know, we always says He didn't deserve, no He did. Why? 00:26:44.09\00:26:46.14 Because He so completely took my sins that He deserved that. 00:26:46.17\00:26:50.72 Because the way does the sin death, 00:26:50.75\00:26:52.63 He took my sin. It wasn't just some little light thing. 00:26:52.66\00:26:55.68 Yeah, we just--we'll just kind of make this little symbolism 00:26:55.71\00:26:57.96 that I took Herb's sins. 00:26:57.99\00:26:59.63 No, He took my sin so completely. 00:26:59.66\00:27:01.72 Yeah. That my condemnation 00:27:01.75\00:27:03.38 made Him hang there and cry out my God, 00:27:03.41\00:27:05.99 my God, not my Father, my Father but my God, 00:27:06.02\00:27:09.50 my God why have you forsaken me. 00:27:09.53\00:27:13.06 He is crying out my. Yeah. 00:27:13.09\00:27:17.27 My agony. You know Herb, 00:27:17.30\00:27:19.71 this has been such a enlightening topic. 00:27:19.74\00:27:22.05 I am so glad that we decided to talk about this for today. 00:27:22.08\00:27:24.69 Thank you, so much for being back. 00:27:24.72\00:27:26.34 Our time is already gone. Yeah, I know. 00:27:26.37\00:27:28.43 Thank you, so much. 00:27:28.46\00:27:29.60 And for those of you at home, I pray that you remember 00:27:29.63\00:27:32.94 what Paul said, there is now therefore, 00:27:32.97\00:27:35.42 no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:27:35.45\00:27:39.25 If you have confessed your sins and ask God to forgive 00:27:39.28\00:27:41.75 in you then you just do not take that baton of condemnation 00:27:41.78\00:27:46.05 from Satan what he try's to pass it off to you. 00:27:46.08\00:27:48.39 Okay, now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:27:48.42\00:27:51.28 the love of the Father and the fellowship 00:27:51.31\00:27:53.09 of Holy Spirit be with you always. 00:27:53.12\00:27:55.57
