Intercession means that we rouse

ourselves up to get to the mind
of Christ about the one for whom

we pray. Preaching has many a
snare. Intercessory prayer has

none. I like that because
I'm not a preacher, I'm just a

deacon. We have intercessory
ministry in my Spring Hope

Ministries with my wife and
other members of the community

there. As a matter of fact, it
was a friend of my named Pastor

And we pray for him and other
people as well. The word brother

has to do with an Old Testament
reciprocal relationship, the

it to mean joint heirs of
heavenly riches and it appears

So brotherhood is a very

important feature in the
Christian witness. Now of course

the word brotherhood and
sisterhood mean the same thing

in function and purpose.
When the Holy Spirit moves on a

brother it has the same action
on a sister, that is to obey

Christ. But one important thing
I want to make in this program

as the man, as the male, I am
the first to show brotherly love

and kindness. Whenever there
is problem or conflict I'm the

and compassionate. That's my
job first. Not that the sister

should not do it, but I should

brother in Christ is what we

prayer or prayer cover.

In 1 Samuel 12:23 it talks about
God forbid that I should sin by

not praying for you. I
never equated that with sinning.

we're not praying for someone.

See. The language of heaven is

in prayer; that's the language

was put out of heaven. He did

language. Therefore, in the
earth realm all prayer is moved

by God. You cannot pray unless
he moves you. So when God asks

you to pray for someone, that
means at that instant he wants

to do a miracle in their life

So when God asks you to pray for

understand that as a brother

This morning I had breakfast in

her brother now, never met her

before but I'm her brother. Mary

you, and don't ask for anything
small. She thought about it and

I said, no Mary, make it
large because God is in the big

business of doing great things.
And she finally said, Joe, I

want to be out of debt. I said
great, let's claim it in 30 days

I said, your prayer still is too
small. Agree with me that when

you're out of debt you can bless

day and night and for those who

going and trying to get up early

out of the door for prayer and

is a neglect of ourselves but

Absolutely. How can a person

overcome that challenge
of being so busy and rushing?

Well see we've moved away
from a very narrow definition of

prayer here as brother. To sit
down every morning for an hour

and pray is kind of like
unrealistic, but there are so

many ways to pray based on
technology. For example, that

long commute to work. Turn
off the radio, put in the tape,

okay. On the bus ride to work
put on the headphones. Prayer

is an attitude. Prayer is
a spirit. It is Christ doing

things through you. I wish often

about seven hours in the car.

I turned off the radio, I
put on the right kind of music,

groanings that cannot be uttered

I was in his presence. In his

So prayer is much larger than

we think. The only thing that
blocks prayer is an unconverted

heart or wickedness or spiritual

So what can a person do
who has done those things?

begin to meditate on who God is.

That's the last thing I remember

spirit has been in prayer.
God has been praying through me

for things I don't even know
what. That's okay because I'm

his servant. So first as prayer
cover, I'm a brother, I have

to pray for everybody everywhere
all the time without reservation

brother is to protect
every sister, every female.

entitled New Man and it talks

about sexual purity. There are
only two classes of women in the

world for me, only two, my wife
and everybody else. That makes

it very simple, my wife
and everybody else. Every woman

on the globe is my sister. She
may be my grandma sister or my

peer sister or my daughter
sister, but she's my sister.

And as brother, we get this

Bible, where Absalom came and
killed his brother for having

raped Tamar. But there's a
very important principle there.

As a Godly man operating under
the power of the Holy Spirit, I

see women in only two
classifications: My wife Cynthia

is in this class. She is in
that class by herself singularly

alone and there is a powerful
anointing on that relationship.

And there is all the other
women, my sisters, my aunts,

my grandparents, all the
rest. There is no distinction.

I'd love all them, treat them as
I would a biological sister and

part of my life that gives me

example, talking to Mary at the

as I would to any other sister.

Race, sex, creed, color are
irrelevant. She is my sister

and I'd do for her what a
brother does for his sister.

That has been a powerful guiding
principle. My wife is my sister

a chance to speak like this,

heterosexually, I must add that

because of the brother/sister

Here are two examples: The other

I was able to minister to

brother/sister relationship. The

next thing The next day a young
lady came who had been sexually

abused to my office and there
I dealt with her as a brother

deals with his sister. I began
to give her healing. I told her

something like this: You are the
righteousness of the Lord Jesus

Christ. And she began to repeat
it and to repeat it and to

repeat it and to repeat it. As a
brother it is my responsibility

to bring healing to her where
she's been hurt by other men.

So one part of brotherhood, one
part of being a brother in the

Holy Spirit is just pure simple
sexual purity. Number three

born for hard times. Men have
very difficult trouble asking

other men for help. It's
horrible. A male won't ask for

directions, you know. Yes that's
very true. Men won't admit they

have medical problems.
Now that one's also very true.

I wonder why is that. I mean
it's baffling to us women but I

know you're going to explain
it. Well men just don't want to

admit that they are incompetent.
Think about prostate cancer.

In the black community, it's
running rampant almost and the

reason is that we don't want to
confess the fact that yes I have

this problem in this area. I am
so glad that different kinds of

cancers now are no longer taboo.
We can talk about them. But men

get themselves in situations
of all sorts, types and

descriptions and they are
helpless but they don't know

how to ask. A Godly brother
comes along side and says look

to fix this, I'm not going to

put you down for getting into
this mess, I've just come along

side to be with you. Now how do
men heal, by the way? Men heal

by doing things. Women heal
by talking. Men don't heal that

way. Men need to go out
and snow mobile or ski or build

something, make something,
create something, do something.

A lot of male groups I've been
with have failed because the men

together for breakfast. That's
