Hello! World over I suppose other countries know more 00:00:01.98\00:00:05.70 in the way of home remedies than we do in this country 00:00:05.73\00:00:09.05 but as I have traveled around the world I have learned many 00:00:09.08\00:00:14.41 home remedies. 00:00:14.44\00:00:15.41 We will be talking about some of these home remedies in 00:00:15.42\00:00:17.89 our program today, and so we hope you will join us. 00:00:17.92\00:00:20.53 Welcome to Help Yourself To Health 00:00:40.10\00:00:42.82 with Dr. Agatha Thrash of Uchee Pines Institute 00:00:42.85\00:00:46.01 and now here is your host Dr. Thrash. 00:00:46.04\00:00:49.02 Everywhere I go I ask people for various remedies for 00:00:52.14\00:00:56.55 diseases, and often somebody tells me a remedy that 00:00:56.58\00:01:00.93 I've never heard of before, and so some of these remedies 00:01:00.96\00:01:04.56 I'm going to talking with you about today and my assistants 00:01:04.59\00:01:08.51 will help me to present other remedies some of which 00:01:08.54\00:01:12.09 I have heard of and some of which I have not. 00:01:12.12\00:01:14.46 So today I have some things that most everybody has heard of 00:01:14.49\00:01:20.18 and knows all about and one is something that you should 00:01:20.21\00:01:24.75 have somewhere about your equipment. 00:01:24.78\00:01:28.48 If you do much in the way of hiking in mountainous areas 00:01:28.51\00:01:32.34 this is a splint for a leg and so you may want to have 00:01:32.37\00:01:36.94 that in your equipment. 00:01:36.97\00:01:38.79 Now if you have someone in your home who becomes an invalid 00:01:38.82\00:01:42.54 then you may want a device such as this is, this little 00:01:42.57\00:01:46.24 device can help you if you are in bed for a long time, 00:01:46.27\00:01:52.03 you simply extend the end of it as you can see here 00:01:52.06\00:01:55.48 and then you can pick up a lot of things it has a good bit of 00:01:55.51\00:01:58.52 force as you can see it's putting a good bit of pressure 00:01:58.55\00:02:01.12 on my finger. 00:02:01.15\00:02:02.48 So you can pick up things and draw those thing back to you 00:02:02.51\00:02:06.41 so that when you are lying in bed you don't have to call 00:02:06.44\00:02:09.87 somebody every time you want something. 00:02:09.90\00:02:11.83 I don't think it would pick up a glass with water in it but 00:02:11.86\00:02:15.87 it will pick up a lot of things and that can help you a lot. 00:02:15.90\00:02:19.58 I have found that something called White Oak Bark 00:02:19.61\00:02:23.99 can be most helpful for people who have a problem with a lot of 00:02:24.02\00:02:31.83 tonsillitis and pharyngitis, and laryngitis, to make the tissues 00:02:31.86\00:02:41.00 less swollen and to make it so they can talk better so 00:02:41.03\00:02:44.68 White Oak Bark, very good for that. 00:02:44.71\00:02:48.04 And then Red Clover is also good, many companies produce 00:02:48.07\00:02:55.29 this, but the Red Clover is very good for women who have 00:02:55.32\00:02:59.90 menopausal symptoms, it's good for people who have 00:02:59.93\00:03:04.09 menstrual upsets, like prolonged menstrual bleeding, 00:03:04.12\00:03:08.40 it's also very good for painful menstruation, and I like that 00:03:08.43\00:03:12.43 very much. 00:03:12.46\00:03:13.48 Then I have here a substance called Nutribiotic and 00:03:13.51\00:03:19.36 Nutribiotic is a very thick liquid and you can see here 00:03:19.39\00:03:24.66 that it is quite a thick liquid, it is made from grapefruit seed 00:03:24.69\00:03:31.58 and about eight drops of this in a quart of water will 00:03:31.61\00:03:36.40 give you a very bitter water but it's quite good for a cold 00:03:36.43\00:03:42.41 or a sore throat and if you are in a position where you 00:03:42.44\00:03:45.30 really don't want to come down, you really don't have time 00:03:45.33\00:03:48.88 to indulge yourself with a few days in bed nursing 00:03:48.91\00:03:53.20 such an affliction, then you may want to get something 00:03:53.23\00:03:57.05 of that nature. 00:03:57.08\00:03:58.07 Here is Chaparral another good anti-viral material 00:03:58.10\00:04:04.00 and I like this very much, I think that the anti-viral 00:04:04.03\00:04:08.62 properties of it have been under valued and can be 00:04:08.65\00:04:13.74 very helpful to people, it's an herb that grows out west 00:04:13.77\00:04:17.84 and you can get it in tincture or you can make a tea from it, 00:04:17.87\00:04:22.88 it has also been used in anti- cancer substance. 00:04:22.91\00:04:27.52 I have in my home kit something like this, it's an otoscope 00:04:27.55\00:04:35.51 and an ophthalmoscope and you are very familiar with those 00:04:35.54\00:04:38.94 you will not need an ophthalmoscope for sure, 00:04:39.03\00:04:41.23 but you might need an otoscope especially if you have elderly 00:04:41.26\00:04:45.15 people or children in your home, to look in the ear 00:04:45.18\00:04:49.05 to see if the ear drum or the ear canal may have something 00:04:49.08\00:04:53.37 in it or might be inflamed, and in old people to see if 00:04:53.40\00:04:57.30 they have an ear canal filled with wax. 00:04:57.33\00:04:59.77 So the wax that an old person has can be very deafening 00:04:59.80\00:05:06.42 for them so that they can get so that they cannot hear 00:05:06.45\00:05:09.06 anything. 00:05:09.09\00:05:10.09 I like these under patient bed pads, they are very good for 00:05:10.12\00:05:14.15 a wide variety of things, and one thing that I use it for 00:05:14.18\00:05:17.17 is to make a charcoal compress. 00:05:17.20\00:05:19.87 If I need to make a charcoal compress to go over the entire 00:05:19.90\00:05:23.45 back as for a person who has a kidney failure, 00:05:23.48\00:05:28.52 then I'll make the charcoal substance and I'll open it up 00:05:28.55\00:05:34.51 and you'll see this little filmy part here that the chucks has 00:05:34.54\00:05:41.26 and you'll just open it up, and then you can put the charcoal 00:05:41.29\00:05:45.80 powder on the part that has the cotton on it, and then put 00:05:45.83\00:05:52.82 the filmy part back down and the charcoal is all in here, 00:05:52.85\00:05:57.97 you can put that on the back of a person who has kidney 00:05:58.00\00:06:03.41 failure and the next morning when you take this material off 00:06:03.44\00:06:09.77 you will find that it smells like urine, and indeed the 00:06:09.80\00:06:15.15 charcoal will adsorb into itself the toxins that the person 00:06:15.19\00:06:22.04 who has the kidney failure will be giving off, 00:06:22.07\00:06:26.57 so chucks are very good to have on hand as well. 00:06:26.60\00:06:29.85 Now I have a back brace that can be used when a person 00:06:29.88\00:06:36.11 does not have a back ache, or it can be used after the person 00:06:36.14\00:06:39.68 already has a back ache and I have asked Arianna Hartsfield 00:06:39.71\00:06:43.78 if she will come with me and help me to show you this 00:06:43.81\00:06:48.47 very nice little device. 00:06:48.50\00:06:51.49 Arianna is one of our students in our elementary school 00:06:51.52\00:06:55.48 and she will help me with this, so it is simply used in this way 00:06:55.51\00:07:01.45 it is placed on the person's mid back so that it rests 00:07:01.48\00:07:07.66 a little bit above and a little bit below, and then it simply 00:07:07.69\00:07:13.06 goes around the person, it fits on like that and fits 00:07:13.09\00:07:18.02 together with the Velcro, then they wear it all day 00:07:18.05\00:07:22.90 when they're doing their work and it can be most helpful 00:07:22.93\00:07:27.04 for them, it makes it so that when they bend, they bend 00:07:27.07\00:07:30.81 in a very helpful way. 00:07:30.84\00:07:33.28 Now Arianna if you will just stay here with me I've asked 00:07:33.31\00:07:38.32 Miss Rhonda Clark if she would tell us something about 00:07:38.35\00:07:43.86 how to handle pigmented scars and other problems that can be 00:07:43.89\00:07:49.85 very threatening to the cosmetic health of a person. 00:07:49.89\00:07:56.66 What can you tell us about scars? 00:07:56.69\00:07:58.29 - When someone has a fresh wound or a fresh incision, 00:07:58.32\00:08:01.48 once the sutures have been removed and the wound is sealed 00:08:01.51\00:08:05.32 you should begin regularly massaging that area using some 00:08:05.36\00:08:08.69 type of a lubricant on the skin, you could use something 00:08:08.72\00:08:11.49 as simple for example as olive oil. 00:08:11.52\00:08:13.42 Olive oil is a wonderful lubricant and you might if you 00:08:13.45\00:08:16.09 wish even add a few drops of Aloe Vera gel to that to add 00:08:16.12\00:08:21.59 a nice healing component to the olive oil, something just to 00:08:21.62\00:08:25.79 smooth and lubricate the skin on that area, that will help 00:08:25.82\00:08:30.48 prevent a scar from really building up heavily help 00:08:30.51\00:08:34.41 prevents as much of the keloid type tissue from developing 00:08:34.44\00:08:37.57 and it's important that the person should avoid the sunlight 00:08:37.60\00:08:40.62 with the fresh scar since that can be a contributing factor 00:08:40.65\00:08:43.56 to the darkening of scars. 00:08:43.59\00:08:45.02 - I have found that for people who tend to develop keloids 00:08:45.05\00:08:49.73 that if they take a very simple diet, low in fats, low in sugar, 00:08:49.76\00:08:55.55 low in heavy proteins, a totally plant based diet for about 00:08:55.58\00:09:01.72 two or three months after heavy injuries of some kind, 00:09:01.75\00:09:07.42 serious injuries that one could expect would result in keloid 00:09:07.45\00:09:11.43 formation which is the humped up scar that can be so disabling 00:09:11.46\00:09:16.48 and unsightly that that can be of help too, but I'm glad 00:09:16.51\00:09:20.57 to learn about this other for a keloid. 00:09:20.61\00:09:23.12 - Yes! If a scar is heavily pigmented and it's a fresh scar, 00:09:23.15\00:09:26.61 a new scar, one of the things that is recommended is 00:09:26.64\00:09:29.33 something called Rose Hip Oil, it's high in retinoids and you 00:09:29.36\00:09:33.89 may think of Retinol or Retin A some medications that are used 00:09:33.92\00:09:37.76 in acne. 00:09:37.79\00:09:40.01 It can have the process of lightening that scar and helping 00:09:40.04\00:09:44.35 it to continue it's final healing stages without 00:09:44.38\00:09:47.53 darkening, if you have a scar that is pigmented and it's 00:09:48.50\00:09:51.43 one that you have had for awhile there are some things 00:09:51.46\00:09:53.90 that you can try, they are not always effective but they are 00:09:53.93\00:09:56.28 certainly worth giving a try. 00:09:56.31\00:09:57.66 One that I have brought to demonstrate on Miss Hartsfield 00:09:57.69\00:10:00.76 is a simple slice of cucumber, I have just placed it here 00:10:00.79\00:10:05.22 in a little aluminum foil, but a slice of cucumber has quite 00:10:05.25\00:10:09.12 a moistness to it, and it is this cucumber juice that is 00:10:09.15\00:10:13.82 the lightening agent in dark scars. 00:10:13.85\00:10:17.25 On Arianna's hand here she a very small but slightly 00:10:17.28\00:10:21.99 pigmented scar and the cucumber juice can be very easily 00:10:22.02\00:10:26.21 applied, just a thin application is all that is 00:10:26.24\00:10:28.68 needed, it's just rubbed lightly over the area and this 00:10:28.71\00:10:32.46 would be left on overnight and then just simply rinsed away. 00:10:32.49\00:10:35.41 You can see here on the side of her hand she has another one, 00:10:35.44\00:10:38.89 this is good for people who have acne scars that have been 00:10:38.92\00:10:42.02 pigmented, or any type of scar that has a heavier 00:10:42.05\00:10:45.61 pigmentation to it. - So it just dries and she 00:10:45.64\00:10:48.65 wears it over night? - Yes! 00:10:48.68\00:10:49.86 - And then the next day she could apply more if she wished. 00:10:49.89\00:10:52.58 - Yes! And it's surprising how much juice is in even a 00:10:52.61\00:10:55.84 thin slice of cucumber, one or two slices should be all 00:10:55.87\00:10:58.29 that is needed even to use on the entire face if their acne 00:10:58.32\00:11:01.41 is gone. - Does it depigment normal skin? 00:11:01.44\00:11:04.83 - It shouldn't, it should really focus on the scar area. 00:11:04.86\00:11:09.60 Some others that we know of are lemon juice and lime juice 00:11:09.63\00:11:13.76 those both have a bleaching property and that can be used in 00:11:13.79\00:11:17.66 conjunction with the cucumber juice, you can even blend 00:11:17.69\00:11:20.73 a little cucumber and lime together in a blender soak 00:11:20.76\00:11:23.50 cotton balls in that and then use those cotton balls to apply 00:11:23.53\00:11:26.97 to a larger area that has darkly pigmented skin. 00:11:27.00\00:11:29.76 So those are a few tips for treating scars. 00:11:29.79\00:11:33.69 - Thank you so much! - You are very welcome! 00:11:33.72\00:11:35.65 - I appreciate very much showing us this. 00:11:35.68\00:11:37.41 Thank you Arianna! - And I had brought something 00:11:37.76\00:11:40.72 else to talk about today, which is another thing that I 00:11:40.75\00:11:43.48 just happen to cross. 00:11:43.51\00:11:44.48 One of my responsibilities in my work at Uchee Pines is to 00:11:44.49\00:11:48.02 council people who call on the telephone with medical questions 00:11:48.05\00:11:50.62 and we recently had a call asking about natural treatments 00:11:50.65\00:11:54.03 for glaucoma. 00:11:54.06\00:11:55.52 I had not researched this in the past and found a few things 00:11:55.55\00:11:58.74 that I thought were interesting that may be of interest to you. 00:11:58.77\00:12:01.28 For glaucoma it's of course important to avoid anything that 00:12:01.31\00:12:05.66 increases the pressure inside the eye, this is what eventually 00:12:05.70\00:12:08.94 damages the sight, and so things to avoid include caffeine, 00:12:08.97\00:12:13.86 tobacco smoke, and even if you don't smoke, if you were 00:12:13.89\00:12:18.01 around second hand smoke very much at all, this can contribute 00:12:18.04\00:12:21.47 to an increased intraocular pressure, so avoid even 00:12:21.50\00:12:24.63 second hand smoke. 00:12:24.66\00:12:26.80 Exercise is very beneficial, in fact one study said 00:12:26.83\00:12:29.29 that walking 40 minutes four times a week had an entire group 00:12:29.32\00:12:34.46 of people with glaucoma come completely off of their 00:12:34.49\00:12:37.02 medications, their prescription eye drops, so I thought that was 00:12:37.05\00:12:40.65 rather interesting. 00:12:40.68\00:12:41.65 - We know that some of the same things that treat glaucoma 00:12:41.66\00:12:44.90 which is increased pressure in the eye will also treat 00:12:44.93\00:12:48.39 high blood pressure and walking is a very treatment for 00:12:48.42\00:12:52.52 high blood pressure. - High blood pressure indeed! 00:12:52.55\00:12:54.44 - Some other things that were helpful were to avoid any kind 00:12:54.93\00:12:57.45 of an allergen, if you are allergic to pet dander, molds, 00:12:57.48\00:13:01.10 pollens, any of those things, limit them in your environment 00:13:01.13\00:13:04.09 as much as possible, avoid activities that are straining 00:13:04.12\00:13:07.93 or that are heads down, so no hand stands or head stands 00:13:07.96\00:13:12.07 for you, and when you protect your eyes with sun glasses it's 00:13:12.10\00:13:16.78 important to get a level that is appropriate. 00:13:16.81\00:13:19.32 On the sunglasses it should say they block up to 400NM of the 00:13:19.35\00:13:27.04 UV rays, that's the appropriate prescription of sunglasses 00:13:27.07\00:13:30.94 to have to protect your eyes in the event of glaucoma. 00:13:30.97\00:13:33.72 Controlling hypertension, blood sugar are very important 00:13:33.75\00:13:37.53 and increasing the intake of vegetables and fruits that are 00:13:37.56\00:13:41.44 high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and also the whole grains 00:13:41.47\00:13:45.28 which have some of the trace minerals of zinc, chromium, 00:13:45.31\00:13:48.53 these things are all beneficial for someone with glaucoma. 00:13:48.56\00:13:51.27 - Very good! These are lifestyle changes that are within the 00:13:51.30\00:13:54.32 reach of everyone. - Yes! 00:13:54.35\00:13:56.03 - Thank you so much! - You are welcome! 00:13:56.06\00:13:57.11 I am glad to be here to share. 00:13:57.14\00:13:58.74 - Now notice that lifestyle changes are within the reach 00:13:58.77\00:14:03.33 of everyone, simple things like a cucumber, and walking, 00:14:03.36\00:14:09.25 and a change in diet. 00:14:09.28\00:14:11.13 Now I have asked Dr. Donald Miller to tell us a little bit 00:14:11.16\00:14:16.14 about the prostate. 00:14:16.17\00:14:17.51 Welcome to the program Dr. Miller! 00:14:17.54\00:14:19.51 - Thank you! - I see that you have a device 00:14:19.54\00:14:21.84 here that you will tell us about concerning the prostate. 00:14:21.87\00:14:24.67 - Yes! Well let's talk about the prostate as an organ first 00:14:24.70\00:14:27.80 and we are going to show you the prostate on a screen 00:14:27.83\00:14:30.54 and talk to you about how it operates and things that 00:14:30.57\00:14:33.28 keep it from operating properly. 00:14:33.31\00:14:35.79 They say that almost everybody over the age of 80, 00:14:35.82\00:14:38.69 every man of course over the age of 80 will have prostate 00:14:38.72\00:14:42.18 problems but I don't think this is something that has to happen 00:14:42.21\00:14:45.97 it's our lifestyle that is our main thing. 00:14:46.00\00:14:48.16 You can see on the screen the large blue bulb on the top 00:14:48.19\00:14:52.31 is the bladder, it goes down it passes though the middle 00:14:52.34\00:14:56.17 of the prostate, the prostate is about the size of a walnut 00:14:56.20\00:14:59.91 and this urethra goes right down the middle of it 00:14:59.94\00:15:03.43 and if anything happens to the prostate, in a swelling action. 00:15:03.46\00:15:06.92 Of course anything that's got a lumen it's got a hole 00:15:06.95\00:15:09.34 in the middle will swell out and it will swell in, 00:15:09.37\00:15:12.66 this is the proper way that it is supposed to look 00:15:12.69\00:15:15.11 and it's just supposed to be that nice prostate there, 00:15:15.14\00:15:18.16 the urine passes through this in and out of the body. 00:15:18.19\00:15:22.78 Then next slide is going to tell you some of the problems 00:15:22.81\00:15:26.13 that we can have, and some of these things as that prostate 00:15:26.16\00:15:29.68 gets in a problem, it starts to grow a little bit large, 00:15:29.71\00:15:32.53 you are going to have some resistance in that urethra 00:15:32.56\00:15:35.90 you are going to squeeze down on that urethra and you are 00:15:35.93\00:15:39.25 going to have decreased force in the stream of urine. 00:15:39.28\00:15:41.92 Now these things can be basically diagnostic if you find 00:15:41.95\00:15:46.64 that man I try to go to the bathroom and I don't get much 00:15:46.67\00:15:50.28 out and sometimes I got this great desire but it's 00:15:50.31\00:15:54.11 intermittent, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, 00:15:54.14\00:15:57.52 and like there is something wrong inside. 00:15:57.55\00:16:00.12 The next slide is going to tell us a little bit more about these 00:16:00.15\00:16:02.95 problems and one you've got this: 00:16:02.98\00:16:08.12 basically the bladder is sort of squeezed to get the urine out 00:16:08.15\00:16:14.58 but if it's not working properly you got this frequency, 00:16:14.61\00:16:17.78 that means that you got to go to the bathroom quite often 00:16:17.81\00:16:20.04 because you've got this urgency which is the next thing there, 00:16:20.07\00:16:23.27 I've got to go, I've got to go, and then you've got this 00:16:23.30\00:16:25.85 nocturia which means that at night time you've got to get up 00:16:25.88\00:16:28.14 frequently, trouble is you get up and you go because it's still 00:16:28.17\00:16:32.50 frequent and you've got this urgency but you don't have 00:16:32.53\00:16:35.69 much coming out, you are not storing much, 00:16:35.72\00:16:39.63 so these are some problems with the prostate. 00:16:39.66\00:16:43.11 - Yes, and I can see that it's the growth of the prostate 00:16:43.14\00:16:46.10 that squeezes on the urethra, then the bladder overgrows 00:16:46.13\00:16:50.10 that detrusor muscle over grows and that makes it so that the 00:16:50.13\00:16:54.58 bladder can't hold quite as much as it did and the bladder 00:16:54.61\00:16:57.68 becomes more sensitive. 00:16:57.71\00:16:59.11 - It's a vicious cycle! - It is a vicious cycle. 00:16:59.14\00:17:01.12 - Now when we talk about prostate problems I first have 00:17:01.16\00:17:03.97 to point out that there are certain lifestyle factors 00:17:04.00\00:17:06.90 that's going to lead to the problem, rather than talking 00:17:06.93\00:17:09.52 about lots of remedies, to remedy the problem once we 00:17:09.55\00:17:13.42 have it, let's talk about just a few very minor things... 00:17:13.45\00:17:17.38 A few things that I can mention to you: 00:17:17.41\00:17:19.30 1. Those who eat a lot of lycopene, red fruits and 00:17:19.33\00:17:22.96 vegetables, 10 servings a week will reduce you likely hood of 00:17:22.99\00:17:27.21 prostate cancer by 45%. - Wow! That's significant. 00:17:27.24\00:17:30.50 - That is very significant. - Makes me like tomatoes and 00:17:30.53\00:17:33.25 watermelon even more. 00:17:33.28\00:17:34.53 - And the neat thing... You know people go on to these 00:17:34.56\00:17:36.94 all raw diet type of things, the thing about the tomato 00:17:36.97\00:17:40.78 is cooked is even more effective. 00:17:40.81\00:17:42.81 - I heard that, that it concentrates the lycopene, 00:17:42.84\00:17:46.02 and it does not destroy it nor damage it in any way. 00:17:46.05\00:17:49.28 - The last thing I was thinking about was phytochemicals, 00:17:49.31\00:17:51.29 they are not damaged by heat, God has made just what we need 00:17:51.32\00:17:55.87 to take care of ourselves and so ten servings 00:17:55.90\00:17:58.78 of red vegetables and fruits a week is not a real hardship 00:17:58.82\00:18:03.02 case, how about strawberries and the watermelon in the 00:18:03.05\00:18:06.14 summer time. 00:18:06.17\00:18:07.14 - I could go for that diet very easily. 00:18:07.15\00:18:08.69 - I like that diet very much too. 00:18:08.72\00:18:09.91 Another thing that promotes the prostate cancer, 00:18:09.97\00:18:14.32 those who frequently drink dairy milk over those who 00:18:14.35\00:18:18.26 infrequently drink dairy milk have a 50% greater risk 00:18:18.29\00:18:21.93 of prostate cancer. 00:18:21.96\00:18:23.38 So those who have been telling you drink your milk every day, 00:18:23.41\00:18:26.25 that's not the very best thing for your prostate, 00:18:26.28\00:18:29.12 and if you are a man, or even for a woman, 00:18:29.15\00:18:31.40 because it's leading to all kinds of problems with women, 00:18:31.43\00:18:33.42 with breast cancer, and osteoporosis. 00:18:33.45\00:18:36.88 - You mean milk might cause osteoporosis? 00:18:36.91\00:18:39.03 - Absolutely it does! - Yes, apparently every country 00:18:39.06\00:18:42.64 of the world where there is a high milk intake there's a 00:18:42.67\00:18:44.57 big incidence of osteoporosis in women, so it's apparently 00:18:44.60\00:18:49.15 part of the problem and not part of the solution. 00:18:49.18\00:18:50.73 - Absolutely! Another thing that is rather interesting if your 00:18:50.76\00:18:54.11 resting pulse rate is over 80 you have a greater risk 00:18:54.14\00:18:58.92 of prostate cancer, and so what does that mean? 00:18:58.95\00:19:01.82 You are not getting enough exercise, and exercise in itself 00:19:01.85\00:19:05.24 is protective and it's curative. 00:19:05.27\00:19:08.12 - Yes it strengthens the muscles of the pelvis for a man 00:19:08.15\00:19:13.34 and that massages the prostate and makes it more healthy. 00:19:13.37\00:19:18.27 - Messages the prostate, which is one of the things that we 00:19:18.30\00:19:20.48 can do perhaps sometimes to help the prostate once you've 00:19:20.51\00:19:24.21 already developed a problem, it's sort of a 00:19:24.24\00:19:25.65 digital massaging. 00:19:25.68\00:19:27.67 But there are other things that we can do, we recommend 00:19:27.70\00:19:29.90 sometimes, hot sits baths, now this is not just for 00:19:29.93\00:19:33.31 prostate cancer or an enlarged prostate, it's good also for 00:19:33.34\00:19:39.54 hemorrhoids or fissures, and that's just sitting in a bucket 00:19:39.57\00:19:44.14 of hot water, very soothing and very healing. 00:19:44.17\00:19:47.19 But there is a little device that came out a few years ago 00:19:47.22\00:19:50.66 basically for hemorrhoids and anal fissures which we've also 00:19:50.69\00:19:54.49 have heard it is good to be used for prostate cancer 00:19:54.52\00:19:58.89 and it's this little device that's called a thermotherapy 00:19:58.92\00:20:03.44 device, and what it does is that it's got a little wand 00:20:03.47\00:20:08.26 if I can call it a wand, a magic wand, that inserts 00:20:08.29\00:20:12.52 into the anus, into the rectum and when it's in there you 00:20:12.55\00:20:18.31 turn on the temperature dial, it goes between about 37- 45° 00:20:18.34\00:20:22.25 we usually start it about 38- 39°, and for about 00:20:22.28\00:20:27.92 20- 30 minutes twice a day. 00:20:27.96\00:20:30.02 The way we do this is we take the wand, it comes with these 00:20:30.05\00:20:35.16 special little cots that you slip over the end of the wand 00:20:35.19\00:20:39.07 and then you can lubricate it with some KY type jelly, 00:20:39.10\00:20:43.63 probably even Vaseline would work, you lubricate this, 00:20:43.66\00:20:46.26 get in a comfortable position, and insert this into the rectum 00:20:46.29\00:20:50.40 and just leave it sit there. 00:20:50.43\00:20:51.83 It's got a place where it won't go any further than this 00:20:51.86\00:20:54.34 it's going to get up against that anal sphincter an hold it 00:20:54.37\00:20:56.44 in place and turn it on, this gives you some good localized 00:20:56.47\00:21:00.29 heat, - Sounds very helpful! 00:21:00.32\00:21:02.24 - Well you are not sitting in this big tub of water, 00:21:02.27\00:21:04.28 it's much more convenient I'm sure and it gives you local heat 00:21:04.31\00:21:08.75 and basically this is just about far enough to be affecting 00:21:08.78\00:21:12.09 the prostate, because when you do a digital examination 00:21:12.12\00:21:15.54 you can examine it well with the pad of your index finger. 00:21:15.57\00:21:19.08 So this is going to be right in that area, to give you some 00:21:19.11\00:21:22.28 localized heat which is going to do a few things, 00:21:22.31\00:21:24.71 it's going to bring more white blood cells to the area, 00:21:24.74\00:21:27.83 which is very healative to the body, it's also going to cause.. 00:21:27.86\00:21:32.30 The heat itself can kill cancer cells and so it's something 00:21:32.33\00:21:37.10 that is worth a try. 00:21:37.13\00:21:38.20 If I were having prostate problems, and I don't anticipate 00:21:38.23\00:21:41.68 this because I have tried religiously for the last 00:21:41.71\00:21:44.57 20 years to live a lifestyle that will keep me healthy. 00:21:45.24\00:21:47.61 - I know that you get plenty of exercise. 00:21:47.64\00:21:49.57 - Plenty of exercise! - And your diet is not high in 00:21:49.60\00:21:53.57 fat nor high in sugar, nor full of animal products. 00:21:53.60\00:21:57.86 - I have not knowingly put an animal product into my body 00:21:57.89\00:22:03.84 for over 20 years. 00:22:03.87\00:22:04.84 - That's good! That should be very protective. 00:22:04.85\00:22:08.06 - For being around 60 years of age I think I am doing alright, 00:22:08.09\00:22:11.09 so these things are very nice. 00:22:11.12\00:22:13.14 Another thing for the hemorrhoids which is a 00:22:13.17\00:22:15.73 real problem, you can take things like... 00:22:15.77\00:22:18.28 I'll just use this as an example of a rubber glove, 00:22:18.32\00:22:20.89 you take a rubber glove and you fill the fingers 00:22:20.92\00:22:23.46 with water or Aloe Vera gel and put them 00:22:23.49\00:22:27.32 in the freezer and freeze them and then when you are having 00:22:27.35\00:22:30.03 a problem, slip the little ice finger out, whether it's water 00:22:30.06\00:22:35.00 or Aloe Vera gel, insert this into the rectum and hold it 00:22:35.03\00:22:38.56 there, very soothing for... - Hemorrhoids, and proctitis, 00:22:38.59\00:22:44.14 or inflammation of the area. - Right! 00:22:44.17\00:22:47.68 So simple things that it doesn't require a lot of something like 00:22:47.71\00:22:53.10 a TUR or trans urethral resection, 00:22:53.13\00:22:55.08 I would rather go for... 00:22:55.11\00:22:56.31 - Try to avoid those if possible. 00:22:56.34\00:22:57.82 - I've seen a few men who have had a TUR which basically means 00:22:58.27\00:23:01.77 reaming out that prostate to allow the urine to flow through 00:23:01.80\00:23:06.65 a little bit easier, and they walk really dainty for 00:23:06.68\00:23:09.14 quite awhile. 00:23:09.17\00:23:10.14 - Of course I'm sure that for the man who has obstruction 00:23:10.15\00:23:13.66 he is very happy that that is available. 00:23:13.69\00:23:15.38 - It's not only happy but it is a vital thing. 00:23:15.41\00:23:17.89 - Hopefully our instruction to the man can help them to avoid 00:23:17.92\00:23:22.91 that problem. 00:23:22.94\00:23:23.91 - Exercise, diet, so vitally important to a man. 00:23:23.92\00:23:28.29 - And proper weight, well that's the number five thing 00:23:28.32\00:23:31.03 eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, 00:23:31.06\00:23:34.68 avoid meat, milk, eggs, cheese, and overweight, 00:23:34.71\00:23:37.36 so that's it five and five. 00:23:37.39\00:23:38.91 - Five and five! - You've got your choice men! 00:23:38.94\00:23:40.71 - Yes! Very good! Thank you so much Dr. Miller 00:23:40.74\00:23:43.51 I appreciate that. - Yes! 00:23:43.54\00:23:44.70 - Now again we see very simple things, Aloe Vera being very 00:23:44.73\00:23:50.64 helpful, and heat being very helpful, and the life style 00:23:50.67\00:23:54.48 of course, and we want to emphasize that. 00:23:54.51\00:23:56.94 Now I've asked Cal Thrash to join me to tell a few things 00:23:56.97\00:24:02.50 about some additional matters that we can do, some things 00:24:02.53\00:24:06.89 that we can do for sore throat and infections and also 00:24:06.92\00:24:14.05 some things about the blood pressure, 00:24:14.08\00:24:15.65 Cal welcome to the program. - Thank you! 00:24:15.68\00:24:17.98 - Now you have I see here there is garlic on your table 00:24:18.01\00:24:23.67 so what are you going to tell us about garlic? 00:24:23.70\00:24:25.76 - Well garlic is a useful remedy for various things, 00:24:25.79\00:24:28.84 I use it mainly just to help with getting over colds 00:24:28.87\00:24:33.33 and that type of thing, but it's extremely good for reducing 00:24:33.36\00:24:37.49 the blood sugar, blood cholesterol and also it's good 00:24:37.52\00:24:42.03 to reduce hypertension, in fact it's good for thinning 00:24:42.06\00:24:46.44 the blood it's so good that the people who take Coumadin 00:24:46.47\00:24:50.82 and those types of Warfarin drugs have been warned, 00:24:50.85\00:24:53.70 don't take garlic along with it, because if you do 00:24:53.73\00:24:57.41 you will thin your blood to much, so this is one thing 00:24:57.44\00:25:00.21 that we can recommend to people as being something that's a 00:25:00.24\00:25:02.85 good blood thinner if you don't have to be on a 00:25:02.88\00:25:05.64 prescription. - Yes! 00:25:05.67\00:25:06.88 Well I see you have an aged garlic compound there also. 00:25:06.91\00:25:10.83 - That's correct, this of course is Kyolic but there are many 00:25:10.86\00:25:14.84 brands, basically it is a deodorized garlic 00:25:14.87\00:25:19.65 type of product. 00:25:19.68\00:25:21.29 - So people who have to meet the public might be able to 00:25:21.32\00:25:23.69 so with less offense if they take this. 00:25:23.72\00:25:27.07 - Yes! In fact I take it every day, I don't think you can 00:25:27.10\00:25:29.62 smell it on my breath now. - No, you can't smell it on you 00:25:29.65\00:25:31.68 but they tell me that when I take any kind of garlic compound 00:25:31.71\00:25:35.33 people can smell it on me, I think there are some people 00:25:35.36\00:25:37.99 who don't metabolize garlic as well as others and can be 00:25:38.02\00:25:43.43 smelled on the breath, so you have to know who you are 00:25:43.46\00:25:47.05 and know what to do about garlic. 00:25:47.08\00:25:50.71 - Some of the other things that garlic is good for is to... 00:25:50.74\00:25:54.48 actually it will kill intestinal parasites under some conditions 00:25:54.51\00:25:59.60 and you have to take quite a bit of it for that but it's 00:25:59.63\00:26:03.11 certainly a pleasant way if you like the taste of garlic 00:26:03.14\00:26:07.10 you can just use it on your food and also take some 00:26:07.13\00:26:10.14 additionally as well. 00:26:10.17\00:26:11.73 - And people who have intestinal worms may be very happy to 00:26:11.76\00:26:16.30 take all they can get. 00:26:16.33\00:26:17.46 - That's correct! 00:26:17.49\00:26:18.46 - Well thank you very much for telling us about these things 00:26:18.49\00:26:21.51 I'm charmed with this little rendition about garlic 00:26:21.54\00:26:26.67 I love to talk about garlic, I don't think there is anything 00:26:26.70\00:26:30.87 that we have in the kitchen having more good medicinal 00:26:30.90\00:26:36.41 value than garlic, and in addition to that, garlic can be 00:26:36.44\00:26:40.75 nicely used as a flavoring for food and many people 00:26:40.78\00:26:45.04 prefer to use garlic, if they had only one flavoring for food 00:26:45.07\00:26:50.33 they would probably select garlic, I am one of those 00:26:50.36\00:26:53.82 I really, appreciate garlic. 00:26:53.85\00:26:55.33 Now as you can see from our discussion of simple things 00:26:55.36\00:26:59.99 you can take such a simple affliction as a wound or a scar 00:27:00.02\00:27:07.55 on the hand and you have something that you can do 00:27:07.58\00:27:11.79 for that, some things that may be curative or at least can be 00:27:11.82\00:27:16.82 helpful, and even if they do no good at all, 00:27:16.85\00:27:19.69 they have not done any harm and they have cost very little. 00:27:19.72\00:27:23.14 All the way from a simple remedy like that to a much more 00:27:23.17\00:27:28.76 complex remedy like the device that Dr. Don Miller showed us, 00:27:28.79\00:27:33.01 with the administration of heat through a wand into the rectum. 00:27:33.04\00:27:38.10 So I advise that you become as familiar as you can 00:27:38.13\00:27:41.92 with a variety of home remedies so that you can be the physician 00:27:41.95\00:27:46.95 for your own family, and as you apply these remedies 00:27:46.98\00:27:51.01 to your family, thank our Heavenly Father 00:27:51.04\00:27:53.39 for His divine grace. 00:27:53.42\00:27:55.35
