Hello! One thing that I like very much about simple remedies 00:00:01.98\00:00:05.78 is their simplicity. 00:00:05.81\00:00:07.52 I like the fact that even on the telephone I can tell 00:00:07.55\00:00:10.99 a mother what to do for her child, or a husband what to do 00:00:11.02\00:00:14.41 for his wife and expect that they will be able to follow 00:00:14.44\00:00:17.42 these instructions very carefully and get an 00:00:17.45\00:00:21.30 effective result. 00:00:21.33\00:00:22.51 So because of the many things, the many advantages that simple 00:00:22.54\00:00:27.44 remedies have, we hope that you will join us for this 00:00:27.47\00:00:30.57 program because we will be discussing a number 00:00:30.60\00:00:33.37 of simple remedies. 00:00:33.40\00:00:35.19 Welcome to Help Yourself to Health 00:00:55.12\00:00:57.50 with Dr. Agatha Thrash of Uchee Pines Institute, 00:00:57.53\00:01:00.74 and now here is your host Dr. Thrash. 00:01:00.77\00:01:03.83 I suppose there are probably as many remedies as there are 00:01:06.86\00:01:14.96 people who practice them multiplied by 100, 00:01:14.99\00:01:17.95 because everybody knows everybody who uses simple 00:01:17.98\00:01:20.70 remedies knows many, so I would like to show you some 00:01:20.73\00:01:24.26 of the ones that through the years I have learned and I 00:01:24.29\00:01:27.37 always enjoy learning more and from time to time somebody 00:01:27.40\00:01:30.83 will tell me a hundred new remedies and so I have a 00:01:30.86\00:01:34.85 bunch that I would like to show you here. 00:01:34.88\00:01:36.89 One thing is something that you should have in any good home 00:01:36.92\00:01:44.22 remedies kit, or home kit for home remedies, and that's just 00:01:44.25\00:01:48.66 a simple hand mirror. 00:01:48.70\00:01:51.08 Here you can look at things that you cannot see just 00:01:51.11\00:01:55.75 by looking directly at it, you can see on the bottom 00:01:55.78\00:01:58.59 of the foot, you can see on the back, on the bottom, 00:01:58.62\00:02:01.67 on the side, back of the head, and so everybody needs a 00:02:01.70\00:02:06.76 good hand mirror in the home remedies kit. 00:02:06.79\00:02:11.00 Now you need also a number of very simple things, 00:02:11.03\00:02:14.42 some of the oils that we might call fragrances or essence's, 00:02:14.45\00:02:20.72 some of those are really quite good. 00:02:20.75\00:02:22.70 One used for headache is lavender oil, and a little 00:02:22.73\00:02:27.60 cotton pledget wet with lavender oil and pinned to 00:02:27.63\00:02:32.31 the pillowcase can help a headache that one goes to bed 00:02:32.34\00:02:36.42 with at night, and some other oils, one that I like a lot is 00:02:36.45\00:02:41.25 Melissa oil, or also called citronella, and it has a 00:02:41.28\00:02:47.16 citrus smell, and the way to use it is to simply wet the 00:02:47.19\00:02:51.85 finger and then put it on the back behind the ears because 00:02:51.88\00:02:55.97 that's where little insects tend to enjoy being, and around 00:02:56.00\00:02:59.46 the wrists can be put in dabs around. 00:02:59.49\00:03:03.55 This is not related to citrus at all, except that it smells 00:03:03.58\00:03:07.82 like citrus fruit but it's a little herb called Melissa 00:03:07.85\00:03:13.19 and the oil is called Melissa oil. 00:03:13.22\00:03:15.91 Then of course there is Aloe Vera gel and Aloe Vera plants, 00:03:15.94\00:03:20.75 this kind of thing can be purchased at any health food 00:03:20.78\00:03:25.71 store, this is a gel and as you can see it is quite gel like 00:03:25.74\00:03:31.27 and this gel can be rubbed on burns and can be rubbed on 00:03:31.30\00:03:36.21 scrapes and anything that gets infected, 00:03:36.24\00:03:40.05 that's a very good way to use that. 00:03:40.08\00:03:43.64 Now this is wintergreen, oil of wintergreen, it's one of my 00:03:43.67\00:03:47.74 favorite fragrances, I like very much the smell of 00:03:47.77\00:03:51.83 wintergreen and I use this a lot in massage oil. 00:03:51.86\00:03:56.26 Wintergreen has a pain reducing element and if a person has a 00:03:56.29\00:04:01.09 back ache or a hip ache, or a knee ache and you put this in 00:04:01.12\00:04:05.56 some mineral oil with half alcohol so it's half alcohol 00:04:05.59\00:04:09.81 half mineral oil and a few drops of this oil of wintergreen 00:04:09.84\00:04:16.18 that can be so helpful for any kind of pain, 00:04:16.21\00:04:20.17 I like that for the home health kit for use in that way. 00:04:20.20\00:04:28.48 Now a lot of people get that problem that you know about 00:04:28.51\00:04:34.10 called plantar fascitis, and these little heel cups are 00:04:34.13\00:04:39.84 very nice for that. 00:04:39.87\00:04:40.94 A heel cup what we do is to put a persons foot right in 00:04:40.97\00:04:47.77 the heel cup and they simply wear these inside the shoe. 00:04:47.80\00:04:51.18 Now you would think such a simple remedy could it possibly 00:04:51.21\00:04:54.57 be helpful for the serious affliction that I have on the 00:04:54.60\00:05:00.13 bottom of my feet, I don't think such a simple thing 00:05:00.16\00:05:03.27 could help. 00:05:03.30\00:05:04.49 I hear that kind of statement all the time, 00:05:04.52\00:05:06.36 but I can assure you that these can be helpful 00:05:06.39\00:05:10.11 but something that I like probably the very best 00:05:10.14\00:05:13.18 for this kind of affliction is a cayenne extract and I don't 00:05:13.21\00:05:20.13 have any with me and I would not smell of it any way 00:05:20.16\00:05:22.73 because it is the red pepper extract, or cayenne extract 00:05:22.76\00:05:26.94 and it can set your nasal passages on fire when you 00:05:26.97\00:05:31.95 smell it, so you don't want to just go around smelling it. 00:05:31.98\00:05:34.68 But if you have plantar fascitis and it is simply painted on 00:05:34.71\00:05:38.65 the plantar surface of the sole of the foot, 00:05:38.68\00:05:43.39 and if you do it for six times a day for six days then you can 00:05:43.42\00:05:49.43 drop down to two times a day and it often will help you to 00:05:49.46\00:05:53.23 walk comfortably when nothing else will, so I like that 00:05:53.26\00:05:56.45 very much. 00:05:56.49\00:05:57.46 Now I have another thing here to show you and that is how 00:05:57.47\00:06:00.68 to make soy milk, I don't promote any of thee commercial 00:06:00.71\00:06:06.07 soy milks because of the fact that some of them do have 00:06:06.10\00:06:11.02 substances that you cannot trust might be the most 00:06:11.05\00:06:15.84 healthful for you. 00:06:15.87\00:06:17.06 So you can purchase these little soy milk makers and many of them 00:06:17.09\00:06:23.81 work by this process, they simply have a little mesh affair 00:06:23.84\00:06:32.39 that holds the soy beans, and I have here a quarter cup 00:06:32.42\00:06:39.12 of soy beans, and that's the amount that we need to use 00:06:39.15\00:06:42.76 for this kind of equipment. 00:06:42.79\00:06:46.41 This particular one is called a Soy Toy, it's one of the 00:06:46.44\00:06:50.69 earlier ones and there are many of these now and you can 00:06:50.72\00:06:55.44 use any of these that you like, they are very good. 00:06:55.47\00:06:58.78 In fact some are improved over this one and the 00:06:58.81\00:07:01.47 little soy beans are the little round beans 00:07:01.50\00:07:05.35 that you are very familiar with. 00:07:05.38\00:07:07.40 You simply put a quarter of a cup of the soybeans in this 00:07:07.43\00:07:12.02 particular type of equipment, then you can see that it has 00:07:12.05\00:07:15.72 a blender type of blade and this is then put in place 00:07:15.75\00:07:23.67 and the bowl of it can be filled either to the 1300 or 00:07:23.70\00:07:30.22 the 1700 cc position and I don't think you will be able to 00:07:30.25\00:07:34.78 see it but you can tell that the inside is stainless steel 00:07:34.81\00:07:38.62 and it had a little marked off area where one can see the 00:07:38.65\00:07:42.92 place to fill the hopper of it and very nice, it cleans up 00:07:42.95\00:07:51.42 very easily and I like this very much. 00:07:51.45\00:07:54.11 Once you have the water in and you fix this on, it has to 00:07:54.14\00:08:01.26 on in exactly the right way, sometimes I have loaned my 00:08:01.29\00:08:05.06 little soy milk maker to people and they put it on with the 00:08:05.09\00:08:08.71 spout out here, that won't work, it has to go here 00:08:08.74\00:08:12.56 where it has the little connection as you can see there. 00:08:12.59\00:08:16.23 Then you close it down, very simply done, plug it in and 00:08:16.26\00:08:22.07 press start and you are off and running. 00:08:22.10\00:08:25.77 Twenty minutes later or up to 27 minutes, I think this one 00:08:25.80\00:08:30.28 actually requires 27 minutes from the time you press start 00:08:30.31\00:08:36.54 until you are pouring up nice soy milk, it is delicious 00:08:36.57\00:08:41.47 in flavor and it's easy to flavor up or season in any way 00:08:41.50\00:08:46.99 you would like, you could put a sweetener with it, 00:08:47.02\00:08:50.36 you can even start with a juice, don't tell the manufacturer that 00:08:50.39\00:08:54.49 because they don't recommend that I don't think. 00:08:54.52\00:08:56.51 You can even use rice in it to make rice milk, that also 00:08:56.54\00:09:01.86 can be flavored up nicely, you should put a little salt 00:09:01.89\00:09:06.63 in it, usually about a teaspoon full per quart. 00:09:06.66\00:09:10.81 Now with this kind of equipment you can make a product 00:09:10.84\00:09:16.57 very good for the bones, good for the heart, good for the 00:09:16.60\00:09:20.74 arteries, it decelerates the rate at which people age, 00:09:20.77\00:09:25.77 I like that about it. 00:09:25.80\00:09:26.94 It also helps the eyes, it preserves our delicate senses 00:09:26.97\00:09:33.24 into advanced old age, so there are many good things 00:09:33.27\00:09:36.42 about soy, and I'm probably not even mentioning half of the 00:09:36.45\00:09:39.55 good benefits of soy. 00:09:39.58\00:09:42.01 So I recommend that you make your own soy milk, so that you 00:09:42.04\00:09:45.41 get the full benefit of the soy and not just a part of it 00:09:45.44\00:09:49.65 as you might with some kind of commercial product, 00:09:49.68\00:09:52.79 or even get a product that isn't healthful at all, that is 00:09:52.82\00:09:57.83 actually counter productive for the health. 00:09:57.86\00:10:01.03 Now I have asked Rhonda Clark to join me, Rhonda welcome! 00:10:01.07\00:10:06.96 - Thank you! - Rhonda is one of my colleagues 00:10:06.99\00:10:09.12 at Uchee Pines and works with me in lecturing but also works 00:10:09.15\00:10:13.24 as a counselor with our other counseling staff there at 00:10:13.27\00:10:17.83 Uchee Pines, so I am so glad you can be with me today 00:10:17.86\00:10:21.28 and I would like to know what you are going to tell people. 00:10:21.31\00:10:24.43 - Well I wanted to share today a special hydrotherapy type of 00:10:24.46\00:10:28.33 home remedy type of treatment. - Good! 00:10:28.36\00:10:29.97 - It's called a salt glow, and these are becoming popular 00:10:30.00\00:10:33.40 in beauty salons, health spas, as an exfoliating treatment 00:10:33.43\00:10:37.75 which makes the skin very soft and smooth, but there is 00:10:37.78\00:10:41.34 very healthful properties to a salt glow as well. 00:10:41.37\00:10:44.34 - Yes, I like the salt glow for just toning up if you feel a 00:10:44.37\00:10:48.49 little bit tired or under the weather, if you know someone 00:10:48.52\00:10:53.01 who knows how to do a salt glow, just feel marvelous 00:10:53.04\00:10:56.65 it boosts the immune system you get over the cold or the 00:10:56.68\00:11:00.53 flu a lot quicker and I like it a lot. 00:11:00.56\00:11:03.25 I've also seen it used for intractable epilepsy, 00:11:03.28\00:11:07.69 the kind where the person has a seizure and then before 00:11:07.72\00:11:11.36 they can fully awaken from that one, and then they get another 00:11:11.39\00:11:14.56 seizure, and another seizure. 00:11:14.59\00:11:16.72 In a field seizure one time 00:11:16.75\00:11:17.84 when there no physician available anywhere, no drugs, 00:11:17.88\00:11:20.57 nothing available anywhere, we had such a patient, 00:11:20.60\00:11:24.46 so we put the patient in a bath tub and gave a salt glow 00:11:24.49\00:11:29.06 and the patient stopped seizing and we were just thanking 00:11:29.09\00:11:33.03 the Lord, of course we had a team of people in the next room 00:11:33.06\00:11:36.65 praying for the Lord's blessing and I'm sure that the Lord 00:11:36.68\00:11:39.44 gave us His special blessing, and assisted our simple 00:11:39.47\00:11:43.04 treatment with success. 00:11:43.07\00:11:44.61 - Wow! You know I know that another group of patients that 00:11:44.64\00:11:49.05 often can't take a regular hydrotherapy type of treatment 00:11:49.08\00:11:52.48 especially a hot treatment, or diabetic patients, sometimes 00:11:52.51\00:11:55.44 because they've lost the sensation in their extremities 00:11:55.47\00:11:58.66 and so we worry about burning them but also just metabolically 00:11:58.69\00:12:02.16 sometimes the heating treatments that we give at the 00:12:02.19\00:12:03.67 Lifestyle Center increase the metabolism to a point that 00:12:03.70\00:12:06.45 it's difficult for the diabetic body to keep up with that. 00:12:06.48\00:12:09.27 But the salt glow is a wonderful way to increase the circulation 00:12:09.30\00:12:12.61 and in helping the diabetic patient who can't take a 00:12:12.64\00:12:15.44 regular heating treatment. - Yes! 00:12:15.47\00:12:17.39 - So I've invited Miss Arianna Hartsfield to come up and 00:12:17.42\00:12:20.32 if she'll come and join us today she's going to be our 00:12:20.35\00:12:22.78 demonstratee, and let me demonstrate this wonderful 00:12:22.81\00:12:26.51 treatment known as a salt glow. 00:12:26.54\00:12:28.14 The type of salt that you use is a salt glow is important, 00:12:28.17\00:12:32.34 table salt will be to fine and will not give enough of a 00:12:32.37\00:12:37.40 rub or friction to the skin and you certainly don't want 00:12:37.43\00:12:40.75 to use the large rock salt crystals like people have made 00:12:40.78\00:12:44.03 ice cream with or used clear snow and ice off of their 00:12:44.06\00:12:47.94 driveway, that would be to course. 00:12:47.97\00:12:50.01 What we recommend is known as kosher salt or course salt 00:12:50.04\00:12:54.49 and this can be obtained really any place where people do 00:12:54.52\00:12:57.84 canning, pickling, those places sell this type of salt. 00:12:57.87\00:13:01.36 It's a nice medium sized grain of salt, and you'll notice 00:13:01.39\00:13:05.80 as I pour it here in the basin it has a nice large 00:13:05.83\00:13:10.45 crystal size to it, each chunk of the salt is a little big 00:13:10.48\00:13:15.15 more than what you would see that you would sprinkle on 00:13:15.18\00:13:17.82 your food. - Yes, table salt melts and 00:13:17.85\00:13:21.27 dissolves and pretty soon you have no salt you just have 00:13:21.30\00:13:25.68 a solution. - A little saline glow! 00:13:25.71\00:13:28.42 And I've not put as much in the bowl here as you would 00:13:28.45\00:13:32.67 if you would be going to be doing a salt glow on your 00:13:32.70\00:13:34.07 entire body, and that's the intent of the treatment, 00:13:34.10\00:13:36.72 beginning with the extremities and working towards the 00:13:36.75\00:13:39.17 center of the body, towards the heart to begin with the 00:13:39.20\00:13:42.50 rubbing of this salt on to the body and so you might need a 00:13:42.53\00:13:46.64 much larger amount than what I've put in the bowl for our 00:13:46.67\00:13:48.65 demonstration. 00:13:48.68\00:13:49.78 You do want to wet this salt a bit, to have it just wet 00:13:49.81\00:13:54.16 enough to stick to the skin but you don't want it soupy, 00:13:54.19\00:13:57.69 there really will take very little water to moisten this 00:13:57.72\00:14:01.11 bit of salt here for our treatment, just a couple little 00:14:01.14\00:14:03.97 drops of water may be enough, we'll see here. 00:14:04.00\00:14:06.69 And as you mix it with your fingers it actually helps you 00:14:06.72\00:14:09.61 get a better feeling if you have the right consistency 00:14:09.64\00:14:13.29 and this looks, well maybe put a little bit more water 00:14:13.32\00:14:16.74 just enough so that it will stick without... 00:14:16.77\00:14:20.79 you don't want it to wet, you want to keep those salt 00:14:20.83\00:14:24.17 granules as intact as you can because they are what's 00:14:24.20\00:14:27.48 providing the friction, which is the beneficial component 00:14:27.51\00:14:30.41 of this treatment and Arianna if you would raise up a sleeve 00:14:30.44\00:14:34.63 for me we will demonstrate on your arm here the technique. 00:14:34.66\00:14:38.28 I will put a little towel here under us so we try not to get 00:14:38.31\00:14:43.25 to much salt all over everything, 00:14:43.28\00:14:45.70 you want to lay your arm a little bit more over on the 00:14:45.73\00:14:49.98 towel, there we go, and let's turn your hand the 00:14:50.01\00:14:52.32 other way, I think we can see it here on the skin a little bit 00:14:52.35\00:14:55.29 better, you want to take about a teaspoonful, oh thank you 00:14:55.32\00:14:58.23 Dr. Thrash, a teaspoon full or a little bit more 00:14:58.26\00:15:02.69 of the salt into your hand to begin the friction and it 00:15:02.72\00:15:08.35 goes on the skin and you rub rather briskly. 00:15:08.38\00:15:10.21 - Does that feel good? - It might sting just a little 00:15:10.24\00:15:13.47 actually and you want to get more as you run out 00:15:13.50\00:15:16.68 you just get a little more, and when you are doing this on 00:15:16.71\00:15:20.19 yourself in a circular motion like this might be good but 00:15:20.22\00:15:23.25 you want to try to get a nice red glow to the skin, 00:15:23.28\00:15:25.97 we'll do one more time here. - And you need to watch the 00:15:26.00\00:15:32.64 patient and make sure that you haven't taken off the top 00:15:32.67\00:15:35.79 layer of skin. - You can see how her skin is 00:15:35.82\00:15:38.99 pinking up very nicely, it's looking quite pink 00:15:39.02\00:15:41.89 and this is the intent of the treatment, 00:15:41.98\00:15:43.29 it's to be very warming very stimulating and when you are 00:15:43.32\00:15:46.92 doing in on yourself, again you start with your arms 00:15:46.95\00:15:48.37 working up, get your chest and abdomen, if you need any help 00:15:48.40\00:15:52.22 getting your back, you can put some of the salt solution 00:15:52.25\00:15:54.80 in a towel and then scrape along your back, and I guess we can 00:15:54.83\00:15:57.53 start brushing this off, or I also brought this along 00:15:57.56\00:16:01.78 a back brush. 00:16:01.81\00:16:03.71 This is something that you could use to just put down 00:16:03.74\00:16:06.83 into the salt solution itself and really get it full of the 00:16:06.86\00:16:10.69 salt and then can do your own back with this. 00:16:10.72\00:16:13.59 The ending of the treatment is to just rinse off in a 00:16:13.62\00:16:17.57 tepid shower and get all of the salt off of your skin 00:16:17.60\00:16:20.92 and you don't want to leave any of that on your skin at all 00:16:20.95\00:16:23.21 so rinse off well and Miss Hartsfield will be 00:16:23.24\00:16:26.31 rinsing off here as she finishes helping me and then 00:16:26.34\00:16:30.41 rest, it's nice to rest for a bit after the treatment, 00:16:30.44\00:16:32.85 if you can, or you might just have to go on to work so 00:16:32.88\00:16:35.65 if you take it to yourself to help liven up, know that 00:16:35.68\00:16:39.02 it might make you a little sweatier to stimulate you 00:16:39.05\00:16:41.55 enough, don't let that surprise you. 00:16:41.58\00:16:43.67 - It is a stimulatory treatment but then after awhile it is 00:16:43.70\00:16:49.08 relaxing so if you go to work you might fall asleep over your 00:16:49.11\00:16:52.48 keyboard. 00:16:52.51\00:16:53.56 Thank you so much Rhonda! - You are so welcome! 00:16:53.59\00:16:57.12 I appreciate your showing the salt glow it's an important 00:16:57.15\00:16:59.07 treatment, and I like it very much. 00:16:59.11\00:17:00.80 Now I'd like to have Arianna help me with a couple of 00:17:00.83\00:17:06.06 other treatments, one is this lumbar roll which is for 00:17:06.09\00:17:13.89 a very large person, but it can be very helpful. 00:17:13.92\00:17:18.77 If you will hold your arms up I will just put it around and 00:17:18.81\00:17:23.32 it can be just... Maybe I will just go ahead and 00:17:23.35\00:17:26.35 put it all the way around and hold that for me right there, 00:17:26.38\00:17:30.95 and I'll just put this right here and then around to 00:17:30.98\00:17:36.63 this side and the lumbar support should be quite tight 00:17:36.66\00:17:44.59 as you can see here, firmly tight, and that is quite helpful 00:17:44.62\00:17:49.28 and people who are very active who lift things or who are 00:17:49.31\00:17:54.35 lying in bed a long time and they begin to get some 00:17:54.38\00:17:58.79 difficulty because of lying in bed, 00:17:58.82\00:18:01.49 the low back begins to hurt. 00:18:01.52\00:18:03.22 For these individuals if they wear one of these it can be 00:18:03.25\00:18:07.03 very helpful. 00:18:07.06\00:18:08.03 People who have to lye in a hospital bed with the knees up, 00:18:08.04\00:18:12.50 Arianna I need you for another thing so don't go away. 00:18:12.53\00:18:15.77 They have to be with their knees up for a long time and 00:18:15.80\00:18:20.29 the bed is propped up, sometimes they will get a low back pain 00:18:20.32\00:18:23.84 as well. 00:18:23.87\00:18:24.84 Now Arianna I would like to show this little device here 00:18:24.85\00:18:30.25 while this is a massage assistant and it looks as if 00:18:30.28\00:18:36.18 it's a little spider, it's a little thing made of wood 00:18:36.21\00:18:40.60 so if you will turn your back this is so nice. 00:18:40.63\00:18:45.63 Does that feel good Arianna? 00:18:45.66\00:18:46.82 Isn't that nice, this just rubs across sore muscles and 00:18:46.85\00:18:52.75 by the way massage strokes are more for muscle than 00:18:52.78\00:18:57.18 they are for bones so don't get to vigorous with the 00:18:57.21\00:19:01.31 massage stroke that comes across a bone like that. 00:19:01.34\00:19:05.16 You have to be very careful not to do that but to stay 00:19:05.19\00:19:08.69 with the muscles and a person who is not a very big person 00:19:08.72\00:19:12.84 as Arianna is not, they are not very hefty coming down 00:19:12.87\00:19:19.70 across the vertebral spines will not be pleasant for 00:19:19.73\00:19:24.20 such a person so you should go to one side or the other but 00:19:24.23\00:19:27.44 not straight down the spine like this. 00:19:27.47\00:19:29.93 Of course the muscles that are down here and the muscles 00:19:29.96\00:19:33.40 that are on the arms, these can be nicely worked with 00:19:33.43\00:19:37.94 with a very simple thing such as this. 00:19:37.97\00:19:41.26 Thank you so much Arianna, I appreciate your being my helper. 00:19:41.29\00:19:45.91 Now another thing that I like to see in the home health kit 00:19:45.94\00:19:51.75 is an eye wash cup. 00:19:51.78\00:19:54.26 These are available from pharmacies they just have 00:19:54.29\00:19:57.09 a little depression in them such as this and this depression 00:19:57.12\00:20:01.24 can hold several kinds of fluid, saline is one kind of 00:20:01.27\00:20:07.79 fluid that this holds, and the saline is made up with 00:20:07.82\00:20:11.27 one teaspoon of salt to one level pint of water. 00:20:11.30\00:20:17.04 Now a pint is two cups or one half quart, so either way, 00:20:17.07\00:20:23.81 any way you can measure one teaspoon, two cups of water 00:20:23.84\00:20:27.85 and that gives saline. 00:20:27.88\00:20:29.79 Fill the cup with the saline then it is put right against 00:20:29.82\00:20:33.07 the eye in this fashion and while one is bending over 00:20:33.10\00:20:36.90 or up like this, one can bat the eyes multiple times 00:20:36.93\00:20:41.62 and that of course will cause the eye to get washed out, 00:20:41.65\00:20:46.91 it's very good in cases of conjunctivitis, or in cases 00:20:46.94\00:20:52.34 of something getting into the eye, so that can be 00:20:52.37\00:20:56.18 most helpful. 00:20:56.21\00:20:57.32 Now for women I recommend that they get some little device 00:20:57.35\00:21:02.70 such as this, a little bar bell for women and I have two 00:21:02.73\00:21:08.82 of these right at my desk and no matter what I am doing 00:21:08.85\00:21:14.77 at my desk if I am only using one hand then I use the other 00:21:14.80\00:21:20.43 hand if I don't have to concentrate to much with 00:21:20.46\00:21:23.76 this hand, say with writing, I use this just to work my hands 00:21:23.79\00:21:30.93 up and down, but I really like to use both of them. 00:21:30.96\00:21:34.05 So if I am sitting talking with someone on the speaker phone 00:21:34.08\00:21:39.25 then I can be doing all sorts of things with dumb bells and 00:21:39.28\00:21:44.65 they don't have to know that I am doing my exercises 00:21:44.68\00:21:48.63 while I am also talking on the telephone. 00:21:48.66\00:21:50.68 That can be very nice, and of course all sorts of curls 00:21:50.71\00:21:53.79 can be done in this way so just over the head or around 00:21:53.82\00:21:58.31 behind the back, any way that you can find to move the 00:21:58.34\00:22:03.70 dumb bells, this exercises different muscle sets. 00:22:03.73\00:22:07.68 Now another thing that I like to have at my desk for long time 00:22:07.71\00:22:13.03 simple things that I do that don't require to much 00:22:13.06\00:22:17.76 concentration is work with this, so you just work with 00:22:17.79\00:22:22.34 this a bit and again this can be stretched in any one of 00:22:22.37\00:22:29.69 many different ways. 00:22:29.72\00:22:30.95 You can stretch it up and do it on diagonals and this way 00:22:30.98\00:22:35.87 you can put it over the back, and of course it can be done 00:22:35.90\00:22:38.69 this way, you can do it fast or slow, and when you do it 00:22:38.72\00:22:45.20 fast you get a different kind of reaction than you do 00:22:45.23\00:22:48.07 when you do it slowly. 00:22:48.10\00:22:49.86 So in all manner of ways you can do this, even at times 00:22:49.89\00:22:54.61 I have had to watch videos or do some kind of work 00:22:54.64\00:23:00.34 of that nature so I just hook it over my toes and stretch it 00:23:00.37\00:23:05.75 out in that way, one after the other, it's easy to find 00:23:05.78\00:23:12.93 different ways and different muscle groups that can be 00:23:12.96\00:23:16.63 exercised with this kind of thing. 00:23:16.66\00:23:19.46 Another kind of exerciser is this kind of exerciser, 00:23:19.49\00:23:24.14 I'm going to tell you although I don't expect you really to 00:23:24.17\00:23:29.14 believe me that working out with a little hand exerciser 00:23:29.17\00:23:35.92 such as this can help you not to have glaucoma. 00:23:35.95\00:23:39.39 Now glaucoma is an increased pressure inside the eyes 00:23:39.42\00:23:46.75 which can cause blindness so of course it is quite serious 00:23:46.78\00:23:50.76 and when I read this first in a medical journal I thought 00:23:50.79\00:23:54.77 it was the Journal of Medical Association and I thought "Oh" 00:23:54.80\00:23:57.94 the journal has become spiritualistic because 00:23:57.97\00:24:01.85 what about working out with a hand exerciser such as this 00:24:01.88\00:24:06.47 could keep a person from getting glaucoma or could treat the 00:24:06.50\00:24:10.14 glaucoma if you already have it and the idea is that as you 00:24:10.17\00:24:16.67 work out with a hand exerciser such as this, it increases the 00:24:16.70\00:24:21.59 carbon dioxide in the blood, just a little and that relaxes 00:24:21.62\00:24:27.98 the tension inside the eyes. 00:24:28.01\00:24:32.39 Now anything that relaxes the tension in the eyes will also 00:24:32.42\00:24:36.27 relax the blood pressure, so if a person has high blood 00:24:36.30\00:24:39.89 working out with one of these little hand exercisers can be 00:24:39.92\00:24:43.27 very helpful, and so people who do spend a lot of time 00:24:43.30\00:24:46.68 telephoning, when it's not to distracting to do some little 00:24:46.71\00:24:53.85 exercising such as this, one can simply work out with 00:24:53.88\00:24:57.34 the little exerciser such as this in times of 00:24:57.37\00:25:01.41 this kind of stress. 00:25:01.44\00:25:02.52 Now here is another thing that I like to see in people's 00:25:02.55\00:25:07.43 home health kit, and this is a venomous bite kit extractor. 00:25:07.46\00:25:13.78 Now the venomous bite extractor can be used for a number of 00:25:13.82\00:25:16.99 different kinds of venomous bites and the instructions 00:25:17.02\00:25:20.57 usually come with such a kit and you can see this kit 00:25:20.60\00:25:25.81 has a little shaver in it to remove hair, and the hair is 00:25:25.84\00:25:34.27 sometimes in the way of the extractor so the hair may need 00:25:34.30\00:25:39.04 to be removed, so the little razor and then the extractor 00:25:39.07\00:25:44.15 itself with the little cups and here is the largest cup 00:25:44.18\00:25:48.84 which could be used for a small pit viper I suppose and it's 00:25:48.87\00:25:54.07 simply fastened on in this way and then the plunger is pulled 00:25:54.10\00:26:01.12 back, and with this put on the place where the person was 00:26:01.15\00:26:06.92 bitten and then the extractor used to extract the venom 00:26:06.95\00:26:16.09 and it's not difficult at all to use this kind of equipment 00:26:16.12\00:26:20.61 but it can be quite effective. 00:26:20.64\00:26:23.87 Now once you have extracted the venom a lot of people feel 00:26:23.90\00:26:28.59 what I need to do is to cut the area, but that isn't good 00:26:28.62\00:26:32.86 it's not the best thing to do. 00:26:32.89\00:26:34.38 The best thing to do is to use the anti-venom which you can get 00:26:34.41\00:26:39.09 at almost any emergency room where they treat snake bites 00:26:39.12\00:26:44.04 and you can also use charcoal if you have cut the area 00:26:44.07\00:26:49.99 and you put charcoal on a fresh wound you will get a 00:26:50.02\00:26:54.66 tattoo, it is inevitable because the charcoal will become 00:26:54.69\00:27:00.22 enmeshed in the fibrous tissue or the skin of the epidermis 00:27:00.25\00:27:05.02 and it will remain there forever. 00:27:05.05\00:27:08.71 So it's best not to cut but rather to use other things, 00:27:08.74\00:27:13.56 the cutting has not been shown to be effective. 00:27:13.59\00:27:16.59 Then for brown recluse spider bites you can also do an 00:27:16.62\00:27:20.67 extraction if you get to it right away and then put the 00:27:20.70\00:27:24.66 charcoal compresses on or soak the part if it's a part that 00:27:24.69\00:27:28.80 you can put into a charcoal bath, you can put it in a 00:27:28.83\00:27:32.85 charcoal bath and change the charcoal water very frequently. 00:27:32.88\00:27:38.07 We like at first to change it every thirty minutes that 00:27:38.10\00:27:40.82 probably is not necessary but it gives us something to do 00:27:40.85\00:27:43.89 and makes us feel that we are trying our very best to keep 00:27:43.92\00:27:47.41 the person from getting in a major slough from a 00:27:47.44\00:27:50.16 brown recluse spider bite. 00:27:50.20\00:27:51.61 I hope these remedies have been very helpful to you. 00:27:51.64\00:27:55.70
