Hello! We generally think of eight laws of health 00:00:01.98\00:00:06.55 but actually when we start counting the laws that we know 00:00:06.58\00:00:10.71 we find there are more. 00:00:10.74\00:00:12.35 There are more than maybe fifteen, 00:00:12.38\00:00:15.52 there may be even more than twenty, we'll be talking about 00:00:15.55\00:00:20.06 some of these overlooked laws of health, 00:00:20.09\00:00:22.99 or frequently overlooked laws of health. 00:00:23.02\00:00:24.97 We hope you will join us, we think you will enjoy considering 00:00:25.00\00:00:28.54 some of these frequently overlooked laws of health. 00:00:28.57\00:00:32.25 Welcome to Help Yourself to Health with Dr. Agatha Thrash 00:00:52.76\00:00:56.47 of Uchee Pines Institute, and now here is your host 00:00:56.50\00:01:00.13 Dr. Thrash. 00:01:00.16\00:01:01.33 I love living by law, I love knowing about laws, 00:01:01.36\00:01:08.35 think what it would be like if we didn't know the laws 00:01:08.38\00:01:12.12 having to do with sleep, with rest, with food, with fresh air, 00:01:12.15\00:01:17.88 we would be at sea with the health, so I love living by law, 00:01:17.91\00:01:22.52 I love studying about law. 00:01:22.55\00:01:24.43 Not only physiologic law that has to do with health 00:01:24.46\00:01:28.57 but all manner of law, I like to study the law that has to do 00:01:28.60\00:01:32.83 with the starry heavens, and I think if we enjoy studying 00:01:32.86\00:01:38.49 about law, we can know more about the nature of God 00:01:38.52\00:01:42.72 because He has a character that has a transcript of law, 00:01:42.75\00:01:48.54 and so we would like to invite you today to join us as we 00:01:48.57\00:01:52.70 consider some of these wonderful things about law the things 00:01:52.73\00:01:58.72 having to do with sort of overlooked laws. 00:01:58.75\00:02:02.13 I'd like for Rhonda Clark to join me and thank you Rhonda 00:02:02.16\00:02:07.94 for being on our program today. 00:02:07.97\00:02:10.25 - Glad to be here. 00:02:10.28\00:02:11.25 - And you are going to talk with us about some very interesting 00:02:11.26\00:02:15.29 aspects of an overlooked law. 00:02:15.32\00:02:18.59 - Yes! 00:02:18.62\00:02:19.83 - What are you going to talk about today? 00:02:19.86\00:02:20.98 - Well I wanted to talk about the principle of dress, 00:02:21.01\00:02:23.86 It's interesting that how we dress has a great deal to do 00:02:23.89\00:02:27.23 with our health, and there are principles of dressing 00:02:27.26\00:02:30.50 that we have received through Inspired Writings that science 00:02:30.53\00:02:33.93 is showing are very important. 00:02:33.96\00:02:35.31 What I specifically wanted to focus on is how important it is 00:02:35.34\00:02:39.18 that we dress with even coverage over our bodies, 00:02:39.21\00:02:43.73 not having a lot more layers in one place with no layers 00:02:43.76\00:02:48.10 in another, especially important in covering 00:02:48.13\00:02:51.10 the extremities. 00:02:51.13\00:02:52.25 Our arms and legs have large blood vessels that are intended 00:02:52.28\00:02:56.36 to bring a rich blood supply to our hands, fingers, 00:02:56.39\00:03:00.18 all through our arms and legs and yet often we leave these 00:03:00.21\00:03:04.69 extremities completely uncovered making those blood vessels 00:03:04.72\00:03:09.24 stay in a state of constriction. 00:03:09.27\00:03:11.94 When we have many layers Dr. Thrash, I know you know 00:03:11.97\00:03:15.71 that's where we have vessels that are open, dilated, 00:03:15.74\00:03:19.23 lot's of warmth there in those areas, and then the areas where 00:03:19.26\00:03:22.83 we have very few layers, the vessels constrict, 00:03:22.86\00:03:26.04 some of the little capillary beds where oxygen and nutrient 00:03:26.07\00:03:30.89 delivery takes place are actually completely bypassed 00:03:30.92\00:03:35.36 when the vessels are constricted and things are very chilled. 00:03:35.39\00:03:38.99 - It's interesting that the anatomical structure of the 00:03:39.02\00:03:45.37 blood vessels of the face which is expected to be out in the 00:03:45.40\00:03:49.51 open, that these vessels are all together different from 00:03:49.54\00:03:53.01 the vessels on the neck which are down just below... 00:03:53.04\00:03:55.94 just inches away from the face and yet the 00:03:55.97\00:03:59.65 architectural pattern is different 00:03:59.69\00:04:03.37 from the face to the neck, so I think that 00:04:03.40\00:04:06.56 is an indication to us that the creator intended that we 00:04:06.59\00:04:10.14 should respect certain parts of the body by being more careful 00:04:10.17\00:04:16.11 about the dress. 00:04:16.14\00:04:17.11 - Yes, you know it's not uncommon in someone 00:04:17.12\00:04:20.91 who has left their extremities uncovered frequently 00:04:20.94\00:04:25.33 or regularly that they will have 00:04:25.36\00:04:27.06 high blood pressure, and part of this is because the heart is 00:04:27.09\00:04:29.81 constantly having to push harder to deliver blood through areas 00:04:29.84\00:04:33.42 that are tightened and constricted. 00:04:33.45\00:04:35.15 It's also a common cause of headache, uncovered extremities 00:04:35.18\00:04:40.73 the way that the blood is distributed has been changed. 00:04:40.76\00:04:43.32 - Have you read about these studies of certain polar bear 00:04:43.35\00:04:46.59 clubs where they... now my understanding is 00:04:46.62\00:04:51.14 they take a warm sauna, they are breathing warm air, 00:04:51.17\00:04:56.00 they get all sweaty and then if I'm not mistaken they run 00:04:56.03\00:05:00.97 out and roll in the snow or bathe in the ocean, 00:05:01.00\00:05:03.82 and a study was done of these individuals and it was found 00:05:03.85\00:05:07.56 that among these athletes, these hardy ones, these very 00:05:07.59\00:05:12.64 macho people, that they had more hypertension than the 00:05:12.67\00:05:18.00 general population by far more than double the population 00:05:18.04\00:05:22.52 of hypertensives. 00:05:22.55\00:05:24.32 - Hmm that's so interesting. 00:05:24.35\00:05:25.84 - That helped me to know I was on the right track by keeping 00:05:25.87\00:05:29.92 my extremities warm and by not enjoying a cold plunge 00:05:29.95\00:05:35.10 into icy water. 00:05:35.13\00:05:36.15 - It makes me think to when our extremities are chilled 00:05:36.18\00:05:40.91 not only can we not deliver a good circulation, 00:05:40.94\00:05:45.00 our heart is trying very hard to push some circulation there 00:05:45.03\00:05:48.34 for oxygen and nutrients to be delivered to these tissues 00:05:48.37\00:05:51.42 but waste products in those tissues accumulate. 00:05:51.45\00:05:54.42 One of the ones that is most concerning is potassium, 00:05:54.46\00:05:57.99 when the extremities accumulate levels of potassium and then 00:05:58.02\00:06:02.34 they become warmed, large amounts of potassium can enter 00:06:02.37\00:06:05.78 the blood stream and as these reach the delicate organs 00:06:05.81\00:06:08.78 especially the heart, they can cause an irritation. 00:06:08.81\00:06:11.73 The heart can actually beat irregularly as a response to the 00:06:11.76\00:06:15.31 re-warming of the extremities that have been chilled for 00:06:15.34\00:06:17.49 some period of time. 00:06:17.52\00:06:18.91 This is another reason why tight bands in our clothing 00:06:18.94\00:06:23.02 are concerning, they act very much as chilling does, 00:06:23.05\00:06:27.33 to restrict circulation to parts of our bodies below 00:06:27.36\00:06:30.01 that band allowing very limited delivery of oxygen and nutrients 00:06:30.04\00:06:34.83 and restricting the release of waste products to be 00:06:34.86\00:06:37.97 brought back up in normal volumes and eliminated. 00:06:38.00\00:06:41.46 - This then could account for the increased probability 00:06:41.49\00:06:46.82 that we will have arrhythmias or heart rhythm disturbances, 00:06:46.85\00:06:51.43 they complain of it more when they go to bed. 00:06:51.46\00:06:55.08 - Yes! 00:06:55.11\00:06:56.64 - It's not only that they can be more aware of it 00:06:56.67\00:06:59.87 because there are fewer distractions, but it is also 00:06:59.90\00:07:03.03 because there are actually more arrhythmias, the potassium 00:07:03.06\00:07:06.34 coming back into the blood stream goes to the heart, 00:07:06.37\00:07:09.31 triggers an arrhythmia. 00:07:09.34\00:07:11.18 - Yeah, it's important to keep our extremities covered 00:07:11.21\00:07:14.58 and to dress in layers where we have equal layers, having 00:07:14.61\00:07:18.93 to many layers in an area can be equally harmful, 00:07:18.96\00:07:21.99 there is some interesting research being done in 00:07:22.02\00:07:24.08 breast cancer, that as there are heavier layers over the 00:07:24.11\00:07:27.32 chest, and the breasts are kept warmer than the other areas 00:07:27.35\00:07:30.35 of the body, there's a greater increase of breast cancer. 00:07:30.38\00:07:33.36 So having equal coverage over the course of our body 00:07:33.39\00:07:37.68 is really that which is best for our good health. 00:07:37.71\00:07:39.93 - I often tell people who come to the south, they say oh 00:07:39.96\00:07:44.45 how can you stand this heat, well when I see the way 00:07:44.48\00:07:48.03 they dress, I can understand why they are having a problem 00:07:48.06\00:07:51.77 with the heat in the south because the first thing they do 00:07:51.80\00:07:55.00 in the morning, they wake up and they think oh this is cool 00:07:55.03\00:07:58.75 and nice, this is shorts and halters weather and so they 00:07:58.78\00:08:03.50 put on their shorts and halters and their limbs are exposed 00:08:03.53\00:08:08.34 to the air, and if you just go up and touch their arms 00:08:08.37\00:08:12.86 in this area, you can tell that the back of the arm 00:08:12.89\00:08:16.87 is a little chilled, so I tell these people who come from 00:08:16.90\00:08:21.31 other parts of the world to the south. 00:08:21.34\00:08:23.30 In the morning dress as warmly as you possibly can, 00:08:23.33\00:08:28.51 not to be so uncomfortable that you are just pouring off 00:08:28.54\00:08:31.85 sweat, and if people will do this on a regular basis 00:08:31.88\00:08:35.67 they will find that by 3:00 in the afternoon when it really 00:08:35.70\00:08:38.75 gets hot in Alabama, then you can remove the outside clothing 00:08:38.78\00:08:43.95 that you've put on and you feel quite comfortable. 00:08:43.98\00:08:46.56 But if you acclimatize your extremities to the Arctic 00:08:46.59\00:08:50.96 at 7:00 in the morning, by 3:00 in the afternoon 00:08:50.99\00:08:55.34 you have nowhere to go, you just hope you can retire to the 00:08:55.37\00:09:00.38 air conditioning and be comfortable in it. 00:09:00.41\00:09:02.97 So I think that's an illustration of how we dress 00:09:03.00\00:09:06.75 in a wrong way, whereas if we studied the matter 00:09:06.78\00:09:10.83 and dressed accordingly we could be much better at this 00:09:10.86\00:09:15.50 matter of finding some of these hidden laws, these 00:09:15.53\00:09:19.45 frequently overlooked laws of health, and that is one, 00:09:19.48\00:09:24.83 thank you so much. 00:09:24.86\00:09:25.99 - You're sure welcome. 00:09:26.02\00:09:26.99 - I appreciate that. 00:09:27.00\00:09:27.97 Now another thing I like to do is to put on multiple layers 00:09:27.98\00:09:34.02 such as might be with these leg warmers, now leg warmers 00:09:34.05\00:09:39.12 can be simple like these, or I've seen them where they are 00:09:39.15\00:09:43.42 quite fancy with gold threads or silver threads and lots of 00:09:43.45\00:09:46.89 embroidery and really quite elegant garments but these 00:09:46.92\00:09:52.43 leg warmers are simply utilitarian and I don't guess 00:09:52.46\00:09:55.58 they look to bad, but these can be layered on 00:09:55.61\00:09:59.66 over long johns and then when it warms up then these can be 00:09:59.69\00:10:06.06 removed, or if you go indoors, you've been outdoors and you've 00:10:06.09\00:10:09.55 needed these then when you come indoors, just as a sweater 00:10:09.58\00:10:12.59 these can be taken off the legs and then you can keep 00:10:12.62\00:10:16.53 the extremities quite warm in this way. 00:10:16.56\00:10:18.86 Warmed extremities are healthful in a number of ways 00:10:18.89\00:10:22.53 just as Rhonda pointed out, breast cancer and other 00:10:22.56\00:10:26.46 breast diseases are known to be more common in women who have 00:10:26.49\00:10:33.08 customarily chilled extremities. 00:10:33.11\00:10:36.92 Now Dr. Donald Miller is also going to join us with some of 00:10:36.95\00:10:41.86 these frequently overlooked laws of health, Dr. Miller 00:10:41.89\00:10:46.86 I see that you have a problem. 00:10:46.89\00:10:51.37 - I have a sore foot, - You have a sore foot. 00:10:51.40\00:10:54.04 - I have a sore foot. - How long has it been sore? 00:10:54.07\00:10:56.60 - Well that's a good question, that's a good question to be 00:10:56.63\00:11:01.88 asked, whenever someone tells me they have a problem 00:11:01.91\00:11:04.04 the first thing I say is, how long have you had it, 00:11:04.07\00:11:06.58 did anything happen at the beginning of it that might 00:11:06.61\00:11:09.21 precipitate what your problem is. 00:11:09.24\00:11:11.47 Now this is going to be a law of health that I have not really 00:11:11.50\00:11:15.49 spoken about when I teach this class, but as I think about it 00:11:15.52\00:11:19.06 this is a very important law of health. 00:11:19.09\00:11:21.05 Let me just explain what this person's problem is 00:11:21.08\00:11:23.26 the person has a sore foot, and so he goes to the doctor 00:11:23.29\00:11:27.17 and says doctor my foot hurts and the doctor says, 00:11:27.20\00:11:30.11 I've got just the thing for you we'll give you a little shot 00:11:30.14\00:11:33.26 of pain killer and that will take care of your problem 00:11:33.29\00:11:36.20 and the guy says I really don't want to take any shots 00:11:36.23\00:11:39.84 of pain killer. 00:11:39.87\00:11:40.84 So he goes to a second doctor and he says doc I've got a very 00:11:40.86\00:11:45.97 painful foot, and the doctor says I got just the thing 00:11:46.00\00:11:49.02 for you, take a handful of these pain medications and that 00:11:49.05\00:11:52.96 will take care of your problem of the pain in your foot. 00:11:52.99\00:11:55.07 He may have thought I don't want to take all of these pills 00:11:55.10\00:11:57.89 and so he goes to a third doctor and the third doctor says 00:11:57.92\00:12:02.73 here just the thing you need, here's a nice cane, 00:12:02.76\00:12:05.81 when you walk you can lean on it an don't put quite as much 00:12:05.84\00:12:09.02 pressure on that foot and it will make you feel better. 00:12:09.05\00:12:12.22 He may have thought I don't want to have to carry a cane, 00:12:12.25\00:12:14.69 I've got a pain in my foot, so he goes to the fourth doctor. 00:12:14.72\00:12:17.90 I would hate to go to this doctor if I had a headache, 00:12:17.93\00:12:20.30 so he goes to the fourth doctor and says I've got just the thing 00:12:20.33\00:12:22.90 for you, what we'll do is we'll just take the foot off 00:12:22.93\00:12:26.20 and you'll have no more pain in the foot. 00:12:26.23\00:12:27.93 Well I'm glad I don't have a headache, the guy goes jumping 00:12:27.96\00:12:31.21 out of the office on that one. 00:12:31.24\00:12:32.62 He goes to the fifth doctor he says doctor I got this pain 00:12:32.65\00:12:35.48 in my foot could you help me? 00:12:35.51\00:12:36.80 The doctor says hmmm! How long have you had this 00:12:36.83\00:12:40.46 problem, and then he says how about lets remove your shoe 00:12:40.49\00:12:44.68 and he takes the shoe off and what do we find down in the shoe 00:12:44.71\00:12:48.45 but a large stone, that was the cause of the pain. 00:12:48.48\00:12:52.26 So what's the law of health here, the law of health is 00:12:52.29\00:12:54.92 reason from cause to effect. 00:12:54.95\00:12:57.22 Try to figure out using your common sense, why don't I 00:12:57.25\00:13:01.81 feel well, now we can start to drink lots of water, 00:13:01.84\00:13:03.93 going to sleep on time, we should be doing these things 00:13:03.96\00:13:06.34 anyway but the curse without a cause the Bible says will not 00:13:06.37\00:13:10.14 come, we look back and try to find the rock. 00:13:10.17\00:13:12.87 What was it in my lifestyle, what was it in the last few days 00:13:12.90\00:13:16.89 that caused me to have this problem, once we find that 00:13:16.92\00:13:19.98 problem out, we have a better opportunity of removing what 00:13:20.01\00:13:23.92 ever that cause was. 00:13:23.95\00:13:25.17 You know I see people, and I used to do the same thing 00:13:25.20\00:13:28.61 I would get sick and I really don't do anything else 00:13:28.64\00:13:31.88 about it, I don't look back and see the fact that I just 00:13:32.39\00:13:34.74 pigged out on ice cream or candy a couple days before 00:13:34.78\00:13:37.74 and so I continue these things, as a matter of fact I'm 00:13:37.77\00:13:40.21 always amazed, I remember one of my earliest memories 00:13:40.24\00:13:45.52 I had had a tonsillectomy when I was a child unfortunately 00:13:45.55\00:13:49.54 and I remember being in the hospital bed, I must have been 00:13:49.57\00:13:53.94 two and a half, three years old but I still remember this. 00:13:53.97\00:13:56.26 The person came to my bed and said, after the operation, 00:13:56.29\00:14:00.09 what would you like to eat, you can have anything? 00:14:00.12\00:14:02.18 - What's a three year old going to say? 00:14:02.21\00:14:05.42 - I don't know what it was that I said but I told him something 00:14:05.45\00:14:07.40 and he said you can't have that, you can only have Jell-O 00:14:07.43\00:14:11.56 and I said ok I'll take it, and I told him my favorite, 00:14:11.59\00:14:13.91 probably lime Jell-O, and he said you can't have that, 00:14:13.94\00:14:16.72 it boiled down to one type of Jell-O. 00:14:16.75\00:14:19.29 But when you think about what Jell-O is, it's highly sugared 00:14:19.32\00:14:23.02 gelatin in a water base which basically is going to cause 00:14:23.05\00:14:27.98 the same problem that caused my tonsils to swell up to try to 00:14:28.01\00:14:31.43 fight whatever's problem because my immune system was suppressed. 00:14:31.46\00:14:34.42 - Colored flavored sweetened water. 00:14:34.45\00:14:36.87 - That's what it is, and gelatinized which means that it 00:14:36.90\00:14:39.57 has the bones, tendons, ligaments of some type of a 00:14:39.60\00:14:42.09 dead animal in there to make gelatin, so I thought well, 00:14:42.12\00:14:45.06 maybe the best thing to do in my life is to try to find out 00:14:45.09\00:14:48.93 what's causing this persistent problem, and when people have... 00:14:48.96\00:14:54.84 I get a stomach ache once in a while, I say keep a food diary. 00:14:54.87\00:14:59.55 For me especially when I travel in Eastern Europe, 00:14:59.58\00:15:02.68 it seems like Eastern Europeans have a hard time cooking legumes 00:15:02.71\00:15:07.59 well enough, and if I have an uncooked legume, 00:15:07.62\00:15:10.89 a bean that has not been properly cooked 00:15:10.92\00:15:13.42 I know it's going to hurt me. 00:15:13.45\00:15:16.18 So what I do now, whenever I have any food with a bean in it 00:15:16.21\00:15:19.63 I'll take one out and I will put it in my mouth and I will 00:15:19.66\00:15:23.62 taste it, and if it has that little bit of crunch, 00:15:23.65\00:15:25.97 that little bit of mealiness, I might sacrifice that one 00:15:26.00\00:15:29.72 and swallow it, but I will not eat another one. 00:15:29.75\00:15:32.27 We have to be careful with people to enjoy their 00:15:32.30\00:15:36.99 hospitality, but we have to also be very careful with this 00:15:37.02\00:15:41.14 machinery God has given us. 00:15:41.17\00:15:42.44 - Yes! - And making sure we're not 00:15:42.47\00:15:44.03 going to hurt ourselves. 00:15:44.06\00:15:45.13 - With partially cooked foods, beans are just one of them 00:15:45.16\00:15:49.98 but grains can also be partially cooked and that can also make 00:15:50.01\00:15:55.47 a problem, we may not feel it internally but it can cause 00:15:55.50\00:15:59.58 a general problem for us of inadequately 00:15:59.61\00:16:03.41 hydrolyzed starches. 00:16:03.44\00:16:04.95 - Well that's another one of these unknown laws, 00:16:04.98\00:16:08.13 or unspoken about laws that we have but there's a 00:16:08.16\00:16:10.75 wonderful book called Ministry of Healing 00:16:10.78\00:16:12.96 and on page 301 it says, grains used for porridge or mush 00:16:12.99\00:16:18.99 should have. 00:16:19.02\00:16:19.99 - Several hours of cooking. 00:16:20.00\00:16:21.76 - Ok! So I go to Europe and what do they serve muesli 00:16:21.79\00:16:25.32 which is raw oats, and I'm sitting there thinking, 00:16:25.35\00:16:29.21 now in medical hypothesis I think about 1989 came out 00:16:29.24\00:16:33.53 with a study that said that probably the reason why many 00:16:33.56\00:16:37.35 people over 30 have many lacunar scars in their brain 00:16:37.38\00:16:40.49 is incomplete breakdown of the starches from incomplete cooking 00:16:40.52\00:16:45.48 of the grains, now you did an experiment in your kitchen 00:16:45.51\00:16:48.63 about this didn't you? 00:16:48.66\00:16:49.63 - We did in the laboratory at Uchee Pines, we took a number 00:16:49.64\00:16:53.56 of pots set them to boiling with different kinds of cereals, 00:16:53.59\00:16:58.52 oatmeal, whole grain oats, oat groats, and cracked wheat, 00:16:58.55\00:17:07.04 rice, corn grits, and corn meal, and every 10 minutes for the 00:17:07.07\00:17:12.57 first hour we took a little alley quote from each pot 00:17:12.60\00:17:16.43 and we examined it for hydrolysis and we found 00:17:16.46\00:17:21.50 that there was very little hydrolysis in anything except 00:17:21.53\00:17:25.10 the corn meal which was very finely ground, and by the end 00:17:25.13\00:17:30.83 of two and a half hours millet was all done. 00:17:30.86\00:17:35.26 But rolled oats did not get done for 90 minutes, that's 00:17:35.29\00:17:39.54 an hour and a half, and corn grits do not get done for 00:17:39.57\00:17:44.93 five hours, oat groats do not get done for five to six hours 00:17:44.96\00:17:50.10 and whole kernel rye didn't get done for about 6 hours, 00:17:50.13\00:17:54.52 barley also took about that long. 00:17:54.55\00:17:55.52 - How about minute oats? 00:17:55.55\00:17:58.28 - Minute oats, we found that that required about 00:17:58.31\00:18:00.56 20-30 minutes, the quick oats required 45 minutes to get 00:18:00.59\00:18:05.88 well done. 00:18:05.91\00:18:07.66 - And if we don't do that then we have these large 00:18:07.69\00:18:09.49 chain starches and they can get into our blood stream, 00:18:09.52\00:18:12.09 they do get into our blood stream, and can affect our 00:18:12.12\00:18:14.54 brains, get into the small capillaries and cause little 00:18:14.57\00:18:16.70 lacunar scars, a little bit of tissue death, 00:18:16.73\00:18:18.64 into our kidneys, our bones, our adrenals, it can cause havoc 00:18:18.67\00:18:23.29 in the body and we never even know it and wonder why 00:18:23.32\00:18:26.49 our memory is slipping, could it be part of our 00:18:26.52\00:18:29.01 memory problems? 00:18:29.04\00:18:30.01 - I think so, I think one of the reasons why, in fact it was 00:18:30.02\00:18:33.28 postulated, it has been postulated by those who have 00:18:33.31\00:18:36.77 studied this, that one of the reasons for slippage of memory 00:18:36.80\00:18:40.81 and old age is because of years of eating inadequately cooked 00:18:40.84\00:18:45.93 grains. 00:18:45.96\00:18:47.07 - I read another place about some very large loaves of bread 00:18:47.10\00:18:51.45 being made that were very heavy and moist on the inside 00:18:51.48\00:18:55.25 so the servant girl who had made these things feeling 00:18:55.28\00:18:58.38 oh my master won't like this, so she took it out and put 00:18:58.41\00:19:01.81 it in the pigs trough, the guy had a couple great big sows. 00:19:01.84\00:19:05.64 Well the next morning he went out and do you remember what 00:19:05.67\00:19:08.43 happened to both those sows? 00:19:08.46\00:19:09.66 - Yes! Umm! - They died. 00:19:09.69\00:19:12.98 - They had died during the night, yes! 00:19:13.01\00:19:14.85 - And he looked in the trough and there was some crumbs 00:19:14.88\00:19:17.18 of this bread left and the woman confessed that 00:19:17.21\00:19:19.17 I put the bread there. 00:19:19.20\00:19:20.18 Our loaves should be small well baked loaves, 00:19:20.21\00:19:23.44 so that they could be dry on the inside, and that browning 00:19:23.47\00:19:27.03 on the outside, some people cut away the crust, 00:19:27.06\00:19:30.76 the crust is one of the healthiest parts because that 00:19:30.79\00:19:32.62 has the Maylard reaction, it has started the complete 00:19:32.65\00:19:36.09 hydrolysis and it chain reacts down into the bread. 00:19:36.12\00:19:39.20 I like to toast my bread, when it first starts to get 00:19:39.23\00:19:42.71 a little bit of a brownness that means that is has good 00:19:42.74\00:19:45.15 hydrolysis is going to be much better for me. 00:19:45.18\00:19:47.74 - Very good and I'm glad when you said when it first starts 00:19:47.77\00:19:50.82 to get brown, because if it gets very brown, then we have 00:19:50.85\00:19:55.56 advanced glycation and products and that can also cause a 00:19:55.59\00:20:00.81 problem, it accelerates the rate at which we age and also 00:20:00.84\00:20:04.46 makes is so that we are more susceptible to such things as 00:20:04.49\00:20:08.16 cancer and hardening of the arteries. 00:20:08.19\00:20:11.17 Now another thing that we have found to be a frequently 00:20:11.20\00:20:15.37 overlooked law of health, people think that it's a law 00:20:15.40\00:20:18.66 of spirituality, and it is, but prayer and meditation 00:20:18.69\00:20:23.06 and work that we do in church with our characters, 00:20:23.09\00:20:28.50 these are also laws of health, they are not just spiritual laws 00:20:28.53\00:20:33.94 and I have asked Rhonda Clark to join me again and talk 00:20:33.97\00:20:39.60 a little bit about meditation and it's benefits as a 00:20:39.63\00:20:43.43 health giving activity. 00:20:43.46\00:20:45.93 - I'll be happy to, you know when I first heard of this 00:20:45.96\00:20:48.46 principle of meditation, I was thinking of sitting in the 00:20:48.49\00:20:52.05 corner and humming and I didn't understand really this 00:20:52.08\00:20:55.89 principle of meditation in the Christian perspective. 00:20:55.92\00:20:58.39 I have learned that it is just really taking time to ponder 00:20:58.42\00:21:03.90 and roll around in your mind a principle that you have found 00:21:03.93\00:21:07.28 in scripture, something that you have heard from a sermon 00:21:07.31\00:21:10.32 that meant a great deal to you, and really looking for ways that 00:21:10.35\00:21:13.24 you can apply that in your own life. 00:21:13.27\00:21:14.95 - So that little word Selah in the Psalms is really "Stop 00:21:14.98\00:21:20.24 and Meditate," think about this factor, so that's 00:21:20.27\00:21:24.82 sort of what you are thinking about. 00:21:24.85\00:21:26.21 - A little description meditation right there. 00:21:26.24\00:21:28.09 As I was a student at Uchee Pines, one of our instructors 00:21:28.12\00:21:32.10 Dan Viss let us know about a ministry that he had, 00:21:32.13\00:21:36.32 it's called Fast Ministries and he teaches a principle 00:21:36.35\00:21:40.14 about meditation and application, he actually teaches 00:21:40.17\00:21:42.88 you how to meditate on a spiritual thought and apply 00:21:42.91\00:21:47.51 that into your life. 00:21:47.54\00:21:48.71 This meant a great deal to me so I appreciate the opportunity 00:21:48.74\00:21:51.06 to share with the folks who are watching the show today. 00:21:51.09\00:21:54.08 This principle of meditation and application is so simple 00:21:54.11\00:21:58.62 as you read the scriptures or a devotional or 00:21:58.65\00:22:02.55 inspiring message that you are finding in a book, 00:22:02.58\00:22:05.00 that's speaking to your soul, take in small bits, 00:22:05.03\00:22:08.51 as you read a verse in the Bible or a short passage 00:22:08.54\00:22:11.98 in the Bible, stop, spend some time looking for principles, 00:22:12.01\00:22:18.63 concepts, things that are spoken about the character of God or 00:22:18.66\00:22:22.62 principles that you can apply into your daily life, 00:22:22.65\00:22:25.40 that's that process of meditation, taking something 00:22:25.43\00:22:29.32 very short, simple and then pondering on it thinking on it, 00:22:29.35\00:22:33.77 and the very best way to apply that into your life is to think 00:22:33.80\00:22:38.55 about how can I today make this real in my life. 00:22:38.58\00:22:45.50 Maybe you will read a passage that has something about 00:22:45.53\00:22:49.06 how important it is for us to keep our thoughts on the Lord 00:22:49.09\00:22:53.27 and so you will think ok today every meal I'm going to stop 00:22:53.30\00:22:58.16 before I have my meal and spend a few moments 00:22:58.19\00:23:00.53 thinking about the Lord, praying to Him, pondering 00:23:00.56\00:23:03.80 on things about this day that I am grateful for that He has 00:23:03.83\00:23:06.46 given, I mean simple things, the sky is the limit with this 00:23:06.49\00:23:09.57 and I like it because it's very individual to each of us. 00:23:09.60\00:23:12.69 Sometime he would give us an assignment to take the same 00:23:12.72\00:23:15.27 verse and we would come back the next day and share 00:23:15.30\00:23:18.72 the applications that we had found as individual students. 00:23:18.75\00:23:21.79 It was interesting to see how with one verse, all of us would 00:23:21.82\00:23:25.48 have something different, all of us would have found a way 00:23:25.51\00:23:28.32 to apply that in our lives that day that was very unique 00:23:28.35\00:23:31.68 individual and made the Bible seem very rich to me, very rich. 00:23:31.71\00:23:36.59 - Well it's been interesting to me for many years to read 00:23:36.62\00:23:40.55 medical reports that people who are deeply religious 00:23:40.58\00:23:44.75 have much better health, they recover from surgery, 00:23:44.78\00:23:48.43 from amputation of legs, from childbirth and many other things 00:23:48.46\00:23:52.50 better if they are deeply religious, and I think it's not 00:23:52.53\00:23:55.82 just that they are more relaxed and happy, I believe that there 00:23:55.85\00:23:59.89 is a physiologic process that occurs that comes from the faith 00:23:59.92\00:24:05.14 that we have, from the exercises that we do of a 00:24:05.17\00:24:11.17 spiritual nature. 00:24:11.20\00:24:12.17 And concerning church attendance, there have been 00:24:12.18\00:24:15.25 several studies that have been done showing that people 00:24:15.28\00:24:19.38 who attend church are more likely to recover from 00:24:19.41\00:24:24.12 heart attacks very quickly, so that's another good thing 00:24:24.15\00:24:27.88 that we can recognize, is a law of health, it's not just 00:24:27.92\00:24:33.14 a spiritual law but can be engaged in because we know that 00:24:33.17\00:24:38.13 the Lord wants us to take care of His equipment, 00:24:38.16\00:24:41.16 and so entering into these spiritual exercises is a part of 00:24:41.19\00:24:47.29 the way that the Lord wants us to take care of the equipment 00:24:47.32\00:24:51.79 that He has entrusted to our care. 00:24:51.82\00:24:54.30 Another of the frequently overlooked laws of health is 00:24:54.33\00:25:00.09 cleanliness and order in the home. 00:25:00.12\00:25:03.93 Some people feel that they can just live in squalor 00:25:03.96\00:25:10.44 or in disorder and disarray all the time and that this is 00:25:10.47\00:25:15.75 alright, it's not the externals that matter to the Lord 00:25:15.78\00:25:20.59 but I can say that from the standpoint of a physician, 00:25:20.62\00:25:24.36 people who live in these surroundings are more likely 00:25:24.39\00:25:29.23 to become upset in the immune system as well. 00:25:29.26\00:25:33.18 The immune system and the nervous system are very closely 00:25:33.21\00:25:37.38 related to each other, and people who are not orderly 00:25:37.41\00:25:41.21 tend to become a little disordered in the mind 00:25:41.24\00:25:44.24 that disorders the body secondarily. 00:25:44.27\00:25:47.90 Another thing is being creative, a number of years ago 00:25:47.93\00:25:53.09 a study was done on people who were being creative and whether 00:25:53.12\00:25:58.65 that acted as something to prolong the life, and it was 00:25:58.68\00:26:03.21 recognized as the study progressed that people who 00:26:03.24\00:26:09.60 were more creative tended to be in better health. 00:26:09.63\00:26:13.24 Then another thing I like a lot is the Bible's idea of our doing 00:26:13.27\00:26:20.24 charitable acts, doing charitable acts will do good 00:26:20.27\00:26:24.66 for those for whom we do that charitable act, 00:26:24.69\00:26:28.67 but the charitable act also reacts upon ourselves 00:26:28.70\00:26:34.03 and gives us a beneficial effect in the health, where as the 00:26:34.06\00:26:41.08 converse of that is also true, that is if you do evil things 00:26:41.11\00:26:45.79 to other people, it reflexively reacts upon yourself 00:26:45.82\00:26:50.30 and you find that because you have done things that are evil 00:26:50.33\00:26:54.58 to others, your own health tends to suffer, so we need to pray 00:26:54.61\00:27:00.07 that the Lord would help us to have this good law of health 00:27:00.10\00:27:04.28 that's frequently overlooked, that law of doing 00:27:04.31\00:27:07.19 charitable deeds for others. 00:27:07.22\00:27:09.35 We had a patient a Uchee Pines one time who had severe 00:27:09.38\00:27:12.59 diabetes, she also had a lot of serious physical complaints, 00:27:12.62\00:27:17.75 she was nearly blind, she had difficulty in digesting her food 00:27:17.78\00:27:23.58 and a number of other difficulties, we suggested 00:27:23.61\00:27:27.24 to her that she stop thinking so much about herself 00:27:27.27\00:27:31.42 and start giving herself to her neighbors. 00:27:31.45\00:27:34.62 This dear lady began to be Mrs. charity itself, 00:27:34.65\00:27:40.87 and the interesting thing to us was as she promoted 00:27:40.90\00:27:45.06 charity to others, her own heal began to return, 00:27:45.09\00:27:48.95 and her life was made sweet not only in the community 00:27:48.98\00:27:52.76 that she lived in, but in her family and in herself. 00:27:52.79\00:27:57.33
