We are exposed to risks for cancer almost all the time 00:00:01.98\00:00:05.47 and it's the kind of thing that everybody hopes that they 00:00:05.50\00:00:09.95 will never hear a doctor say about them. 00:00:09.98\00:00:12.25 We're going to talk about some of the risks for cancer and 00:00:12.28\00:00:16.38 how you can minimize your risks in this program, 00:00:16.41\00:00:19.02 we think it will be very beneficial to you, we hope 00:00:19.05\00:00:21.84 you will join us for the program. 00:00:21.87\00:00:23.72 Welcome to Help Yourself To Health 00:00:43.30\00:00:45.79 with Dr. Agatha Thrash of Uchee Pines Institute 00:00:45.82\00:00:49.02 and now here is your host Dr. Thrash. 00:00:49.05\00:00:52.09 We all understand that the immune system is involved 00:00:52.12\00:00:58.02 in our getting cancer, sometimes we don't quite understand how, 00:00:58.05\00:01:02.00 we may have led an exemplary life so far as our immune system 00:01:02.03\00:01:07.80 is concerned, we have done everything we know, 00:01:07.83\00:01:10.01 we've been very faithful about exercise, we've tried to 00:01:10.04\00:01:13.69 minimize our stresses, we have eaten a proper diet and still 00:01:13.72\00:01:18.67 we get cancer. 00:01:18.70\00:01:19.84 We don't know everything about how to avoid cancer but 00:01:19.87\00:01:24.48 there are a number of things that we do know and we'd like 00:01:24.51\00:01:27.56 to talk with you about some of these, that the immune system 00:01:27.59\00:01:30.11 is involved is very clear and all of those things we can do 00:01:30.14\00:01:35.26 to keep the immune system functioning at a high level 00:01:35.29\00:01:38.00 that will give us a resistance against the cancer that we know 00:01:38.03\00:01:43.69 is certainly a plague in our population. 00:01:43.72\00:01:47.32 Cancer rates are going up and chemicals in our society are 00:01:47.35\00:01:52.91 going up, things that injure the immune system in some way 00:01:52.94\00:01:57.16 these are increasing, so as we understand these things that 00:01:57.19\00:02:01.05 can make us so that maybe I shouldn't even go out of doors. 00:02:01.08\00:02:04.78 Well we don't want to get that attitude about life we can 00:02:04.81\00:02:08.55 indeed participate in everything that goes on around 00:02:08.58\00:02:13.14 us and still have a resistance against cancer. 00:02:13.17\00:02:17.00 We know that we are not going to live forever unless the Lord 00:02:17.03\00:02:22.46 comes soon and we are translated and so with the fact that 00:02:22.49\00:02:29.45 we need to live in this life, we need to learn how to protect 00:02:29.48\00:02:34.27 ourselves from the world, with this we can then begin some 00:02:34.30\00:02:38.04 research with more concentrated and crystallized effort. 00:02:38.07\00:02:42.78 Now with the immune system we know that exercise boosts 00:02:42.81\00:02:46.70 the effectiveness of the immune system, we know that simply 00:02:46.73\00:02:49.93 staying warm, having warm extremities, warm arms, 00:02:49.96\00:02:53.15 a warm neck, the face we can have it cold, the face is on a 00:02:53.18\00:02:59.71 different circulatory system and doesn't affect the immune 00:02:59.74\00:03:04.86 system at all, but the legs, the feet need to be warm 00:03:04.89\00:03:09.50 if they are not warm then it reduces the effectiveness of the 00:03:09.53\00:03:12.91 immune system. 00:03:12.94\00:03:13.91 It is also a fact that a plant based diet is effective 00:03:13.92\00:03:19.15 in keeping the immune system in peak functioning condition 00:03:19.18\00:03:23.90 and that animal products a number of them have been 00:03:23.93\00:03:26.89 associated with certain cancers. 00:03:26.92\00:03:29.01 A high fiber diet strengthens the immune system and also 00:03:29.04\00:03:33.64 lessens the number of cancer producing agents that we keep 00:03:33.67\00:03:38.86 in our bodies. 00:03:38.89\00:03:40.03 Now I have Dr. Don Miller with me this morning and he is 00:03:40.06\00:03:44.70 going to tell you about food and how food is involved 00:03:44.73\00:03:49.50 in the production of cancer, Dr. Miller! 00:03:51.42\00:03:54.24 - Well first I'll say that rather than try to study 00:03:54.27\00:03:57.55 what is cancer and what causes cancer 00:03:57.58\00:04:00.91 is the best thing to do is to find out how 00:04:00.94\00:04:03.17 not to have cancer in the first place and so I get to have this 00:04:03.20\00:04:06.35 little piece of talk in about five seconds; fruits, 00:04:06.38\00:04:08.42 vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, that should be 00:04:08.45\00:04:10.87 enough said, that is an anti- cancer diet for the most part 00:04:10.90\00:04:14.88 now let's take it one step beyond there because 00:04:14.91\00:04:18.15 even with that there is a danger in sometimes 00:04:18.18\00:04:21.28 the foods that we have and so I'm going to go through four 00:04:21.31\00:04:23.94 simple steps once you have fruits, vegetables, 00:04:23.97\00:04:26.78 whole grains, nuts, and seeds, how do we prepare and 00:04:26.81\00:04:29.79 take these things in. 00:04:29.82\00:04:30.79 The first thing is you select them carefully, we realize that 00:04:30.81\00:04:34.10 sometimes and almost all the time in many places the foods 00:04:34.13\00:04:38.18 have been sprayed with herbicides and pesticides 00:04:38.21\00:04:41.15 and whatever else, and these themselves can be carcinogenic 00:04:41.18\00:04:44.92 so we have to make sure that our foods have been well washed 00:04:44.95\00:04:48.29 and as much as possible taken from places where we have 00:04:48.32\00:04:52.07 carcinogens in the very things that are being put 00:04:52.10\00:04:55.02 on these foods. 00:04:55.05\00:04:56.13 So we get our foods from the most healthful source, 00:04:56.16\00:04:59.89 we find that foods that already started to decompose themselves 00:04:59.92\00:05:04.15 are themselves unhealthy and could be carcinogenic, 00:05:04.18\00:05:07.57 and so what we want to do is get foods in it's best shape 00:05:07.60\00:05:10.80 as we can, second step is we want to prepare them carefully, 00:05:10.83\00:05:14.53 how do we do this? 00:05:14.56\00:05:16.26 As I've already mentioned, we clean them, make sure we got all 00:05:16.29\00:05:18.96 those things that might have been on the surface off 00:05:18.99\00:05:21.59 of them, we're talking about the grapes, we're talking about 00:05:21.62\00:05:24.20 the bananas, the apples, the carrots, everything needs to be 00:05:24.23\00:05:27.40 washed, wash your lettuce these are very good things. 00:05:27.43\00:05:30.38 Next step is ask God to bless it, if you've done your part 00:05:30.41\00:05:34.96 He will do His part, and then the fourth thing is just eat it 00:05:34.99\00:05:38.12 and quit worrying about it because if you think it's 00:05:38.15\00:05:39.71 going to hurt you, it probably will. 00:05:39.74\00:05:41.85 There's other things about the foods that we need to be 00:05:41.88\00:05:44.82 concerned with, Dr. Bruce Ames a number of years ago, 00:05:44.85\00:05:48.56 he is a bio-chemist, I don't know whether he is still there, 00:05:48.59\00:05:51.01 he was at the University of California in Burkley. 00:05:51.04\00:05:53.96 He came up with a list of things that were carcinogenic, 00:05:53.99\00:05:58.82 food carcinogens that we have in our society that are quite 00:05:58.85\00:06:02.83 common and some of these might surprise you: 00:06:02.86\00:06:05.90 one is burned foods, if you scorch your foods, as soon as 00:06:05.93\00:06:10.05 you scorch the food it has become carcinogenic and it needs 00:06:10.08\00:06:13.70 to be rotated into the compost bin, you burn your toast, 00:06:13.73\00:06:17.52 you are cooking some cereal and you burn it at the bottom 00:06:17.55\00:06:21.77 of the pot, what I do if I ever do this is usually use a 00:06:21.80\00:06:25.52 crock pot, but if I do burn my cereal I will put the pot 00:06:25.55\00:06:28.69 immediately in cold water which will draw these things that 00:06:28.72\00:06:36.60 are causing the flavoring down into the burnt part and if you 00:06:36.63\00:06:41.13 taste the top part and you do not taste the burn it's 00:06:41.16\00:06:44.50 probably ok, so stay away from burned food. 00:06:44.53\00:06:47.88 Second thing he mentions is damaged potatoes, 00:06:47.91\00:06:52.56 as strange as that may sound, when I first heard this 00:06:52.59\00:06:56.39 I said I am not going to do that any more, I used to go 00:06:56.42\00:06:59.81 to the store and buy the 10 pound bag, the 15 pound bag 00:06:59.84\00:07:03.22 of potatoes, now when I go to the store to buy potatoes 00:07:03.25\00:07:06.55 I pick each one up and I examine them all around because often 00:07:06.58\00:07:11.74 in the harvesting process they are damaged by the 00:07:11.77\00:07:17.02 harvesting tools and if they get that cut in there 00:07:17.05\00:07:20.18 the cut will somewhat heal because see the potato will try 00:07:20.21\00:07:24.94 to heal, but what's happening inside the potato when it gets 00:07:24.97\00:07:28.46 invaded by that hoe or whatever it is that hit that, 00:07:28.49\00:07:32.18 it thinks it's a foreign invader of a live type and 00:07:32.21\00:07:36.48 it starts producing some types of chemicals that will 00:07:36.51\00:07:39.74 kill that thing that's invading it. 00:07:39.77\00:07:41.98 Well after three days it's carcinogenic and it can 00:07:42.01\00:07:45.50 get you too, and so it's best not to get damaged potatoes. 00:07:45.53\00:07:49.30 Another thing he mentioned was mushrooms, I think he said 00:07:49.33\00:07:54.56 two out of three of the most common forms of mushrooms 00:07:54.59\00:07:57.61 in the markets are carcinogenic. 00:07:57.64\00:08:00.21 Now we're not saying if you eat a mushroom it's going to 00:08:00.24\00:08:02.72 give you cancer, or eat a piece of burned toast 00:08:02.75\00:08:04.75 because we've done these things all of our lives, but for some 00:08:04.78\00:08:07.98 people these things can lead to cancer so beings the fact that 00:08:08.01\00:08:13.99 we are getting older or we are in a more polluted world 00:08:14.02\00:08:16.99 and our immune systems are getting weaker, 00:08:17.02\00:08:18.95 it's the very best thing to do is to do everything that we know 00:08:18.98\00:08:23.42 to stay away from these problems. 00:08:23.45\00:08:25.12 We also realize that back in the 1800's a little old lady was 00:08:25.15\00:08:30.44 talking about cancerous germs, this was before viruses were 00:08:30.47\00:08:34.54 discovered, now we realize that cancer is often viral 00:08:34.57\00:08:40.03 related, that it's a virus being transmitted into the body 00:08:40.06\00:08:43.97 and basically those viruses many times come from animal 00:08:44.00\00:08:47.88 products, and so again to protect yourself from cancers 00:08:47.91\00:08:52.94 fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, stay away from 00:08:52.97\00:08:57.65 the animal products because they are a teaming laboratory 00:08:57.68\00:09:03.54 of viruses and bacteria's and other types of organisms that we 00:09:03.57\00:09:07.51 really don't need to fight in these already weakened bodies. 00:09:07.54\00:09:10.91 So a little bit of things about the foods there of course 00:09:10.94\00:09:13.84 keeping the sugar content down as we take sugar Dr. Thrash 00:09:13.87\00:09:17.85 just mentioned the immune system, sugar suppresses the 00:09:17.88\00:09:20.77 immune response and many other things in our environment do but 00:09:20.80\00:09:24.40 just eat a good healthy clean diet and Dr. Thrash I think 00:09:24.43\00:09:27.84 if we do this we will probably not have to meet our appointment 00:09:27.87\00:09:30.99 with cancer. 00:09:31.02\00:09:32.11 - I certainly hope not, then another thing that's a big 00:09:32.14\00:09:36.18 factor in some areas is the water, we know that certain 00:09:36.21\00:09:41.38 big water supplies for prominent cities like Chicago and Atlanta 00:09:41.41\00:09:47.03 and Los Angeles, that the fish living in those rivers and lakes 00:09:47.06\00:09:54.99 have cancer, how did they get cancer? 00:09:55.02\00:09:57.64 Well it's probably from agricultural runoff or big 00:09:57.67\00:10:01.90 feed lots of animals or some other place that pollutants 00:10:01.93\00:10:07.46 can get into the water supply, and then the second thing 00:10:07.49\00:10:12.07 that makes the water so that it can be cancer producing 00:10:12.11\00:10:16.66 is that the very purifiers themselves put into the water 00:10:16.69\00:10:22.07 to purify it to make it so that it is alright for people 00:10:22.10\00:10:26.19 to take into their homes, these things also can in some 00:10:26.22\00:10:30.90 instances apparently be involved in increasing one's risk of 00:10:30.93\00:10:35.47 cancer. 00:10:35.50\00:10:36.68 Whatever it is about water, every municipal water supply 00:10:36.71\00:10:40.68 has been tested in many of these areas, most of the big cities 00:10:40.71\00:10:45.44 just ten miles outside of the water supply district of the 00:10:45.47\00:10:50.01 municipal water supply the cancer rates are lower except 00:10:50.04\00:10:55.17 where there are farmers who are using various kinds of 00:10:55.20\00:10:58.84 chemicals on their crops, so water can be a serious 00:10:58.87\00:11:03.67 problem for us. 00:11:03.70\00:11:04.67 But then another thing that we find that's a serious 00:11:04.68\00:11:08.74 problem that increases one's risks for getting cancer 00:11:08.77\00:11:12.25 is lifestyle and Dr. Miller will talk with us about 00:11:12.28\00:11:16.04 lifestyle now. 00:11:16.07\00:11:17.22 - There are various lifestyle factors that we find are 00:11:17.25\00:11:20.62 more promoting for cancer, whether it's the lifestyle 00:11:20.65\00:11:23.67 of the occupation that you have, lifestyle in what you do for 00:11:23.70\00:11:27.34 recreation, various things are going to cause us to be more 00:11:27.37\00:11:31.43 prone to get cancers. 00:11:31.46\00:11:33.83 I have in my mind right now, when I was a child I went to a 00:11:33.86\00:11:37.86 place that's called Coney Island in Cincinnati, and I remember 00:11:37.89\00:11:40.84 seeing a man laying there and he was as brown as my shoes 00:11:40.87\00:11:45.36 and just shriveled up, he probably wasn't all that old, 00:11:45.39\00:11:49.93 but all that sunshine was setting him up... 00:11:49.96\00:11:53.48 Now a little bit of sun is not that bad, matter of fact it's 00:11:53.51\00:11:55.70 not bad to get a sun tan, but these people who lay out there 00:11:55.73\00:11:59.11 and get the sun burns... A sun burn sets you up sometime 00:11:59.14\00:12:03.15 in your life for cancer, now I'm not saying that you're going 00:12:03.18\00:12:06.04 get cancer if you've been sun burned because most of us 00:12:06.07\00:12:08.64 have been, but one sunburn in your whole life will leave 00:12:08.67\00:12:12.82 you open for melanomas, so what we want to do is protect 00:12:12.85\00:12:16.49 the skin, so those people who have either through their 00:12:16.52\00:12:19.62 recreation get to much sun or through their occupation 00:12:19.65\00:12:23.33 gets to much sun, we need to learn how to protect ourselves. 00:12:23.36\00:12:27.99 Wear a hat, wear the glasses, wear the clothes that cover 00:12:28.02\00:12:31.45 the body and you can take care of that one. 00:12:31.48\00:12:34.72 The two probably highest occupations for cancers are 00:12:34.75\00:12:40.38 dairy farmers and poultry farmers, now whether that's 00:12:40.41\00:12:43.79 because they are so much of their own products or they are 00:12:43.82\00:12:47.06 just around these different animals, I don't know which 00:12:47.09\00:12:50.78 one it is, probably a little bit of both, this is a potent 00:12:50.81\00:12:54.11 form of certain types of cancers so stay away from these things. 00:12:54.14\00:12:58.17 Radiation, one of my first patients at Uchee Pines 00:12:58.20\00:13:02.47 had worked for the Savannah River Plant, where there was 00:13:02.50\00:13:05.08 lots of radiation somewhere along the line and he got cancer 00:13:05.11\00:13:10.04 basically it was an oral cancer. 00:13:10.07\00:13:12.12 So radiation whether it is through the sunshine during 00:13:12.15\00:13:17.03 the peak times of the day basically between 10:00 in 00:13:17.06\00:13:19.81 the morning and three in the afternoon we have more of the 00:13:19.84\00:13:22.75 harmful rays it could also be in the medical type of an 00:13:22.78\00:13:26.75 experience, if you have ever gone to the hospital or the 00:13:26.78\00:13:30.27 doctor's office and they were going to give you an x-ray 00:13:30.30\00:13:33.33 what do they do, they come out and they wrap certain parts 00:13:33.36\00:13:37.94 of your body in this lead jacket and they skittle out of 00:13:37.97\00:13:42.03 that room, they are not going to stay in there with you. 00:13:42.06\00:13:43.79 they wear this little tag with them, this little thing that 00:13:43.82\00:13:46.87 absorbs x-rays, and they have it tested periodically to see 00:13:46.90\00:13:50.58 how much it is absorbed because if it has absorbed it, 00:13:50.61\00:13:53.14 he has absorbed it. 00:13:53.17\00:13:55.48 Once you get x-rays those x- rays are with you in your 00:13:55.51\00:13:58.91 body and so the deal is limit the amount of x-rays 00:13:58.94\00:14:02.96 that you get, some people to and get x-rays all the time, 00:14:02.99\00:14:07.43 dental x-rays and x-rays for the most innocent causes. 00:14:07.46\00:14:11.90 I would not get an x-ray unless I really felt like I really 00:14:11.93\00:14:15.51 needed this x-ray. 00:14:15.54\00:14:16.74 I've know people with broken bones that said look you 00:14:16.77\00:14:17.74 can tell the things broken, just fix it I don't want an x-ray, 00:14:17.77\00:14:22.11 so those are the causes of one of those things. 00:14:22.14\00:14:26.13 Pollution, there are different types of pollutants that are 00:14:26.16\00:14:29.53 carcinogenic, now one that we know very well from 00:14:29.56\00:14:33.35 30- 35 years ago was Agent Orange that they use a lot in 00:14:33.38\00:14:37.29 Vietnam, those people who were sprayed with it were in 00:14:37.32\00:14:40.40 the area where agent orange was are now coming down with 00:14:40.44\00:14:44.02 many problems. 00:14:44.05\00:14:45.05 Asbestos, now they are trying to get it out of all the 00:14:45.08\00:14:47.95 buildings, but you know it is interesting when the 00:14:47.98\00:14:50.31 World Trade Centers were destroyed, that was some of the 00:14:50.34\00:14:55.47 last buildings built that used Asbestos inside the building. 00:14:55.50\00:15:01.60 I heard recently, but I have to check this out, upwards of 50% 00:15:01.63\00:15:07.30 of the policeman and fireman who were in the area who survived 00:15:07.33\00:15:11.42 now are out on disability because of the asbestos that 00:15:11.45\00:15:14.95 was in the air, and asbestosis leads to cancer of the lung, 00:15:14.98\00:15:19.68 they could have never smoked a cigarette in their lives 00:15:19.71\00:15:22.02 and this could be a problem. 00:15:22.05\00:15:23.28 Cigarette smoking there is another one, whether it is 00:15:23.31\00:15:25.84 active or passive these things are potent forms of cancers 00:15:25.87\00:15:29.77 in the body so we need to stay away from any form of cancers 00:15:29.80\00:15:33.13 alcohol can precipitate cancers of the mouth, of the throat, 00:15:33.16\00:15:38.49 of the stomach, stay away from the alcohols. 00:15:38.52\00:15:41.65 Dress, lifestyle, the way people dress, people who 00:15:41.68\00:15:46.65 bundle up, you know lots of people in the cold weather like 00:15:46.68\00:15:49.85 to wear these big down vests and leave their arms hanging 00:15:49.88\00:15:53.12 out, if you don't have much covering on your arms 00:15:53.15\00:15:56.57 or your legs, it causes the blood to shunt to the trunk 00:15:56.60\00:16:00.69 and when you conjest the trunk it leads to more breast cancer 00:16:00.72\00:16:05.05 so we find that women who live in colder countries 00:16:05.08\00:16:09.14 seem to have more breast cancer, probably because of the 00:16:09.17\00:16:12.52 fact that we are slaves to fashion, we want to sit there 00:16:12.55\00:16:14.93 and look all this neat because of our whatever it is, 00:16:14.96\00:16:17.98 I don't know what drives a person to live an unhealthy 00:16:18.01\00:16:20.49 lifestyle Dr. Thrash because I've seen some of these people 00:16:20.52\00:16:22.87 dying of cancer and it's not a pretty site. 00:16:22.90\00:16:24.63 - Yes! We do have a lot of knowledge that can help us 00:16:24.66\00:16:29.06 in these areas. 00:16:29.09\00:16:31.59 Concerning overheating, not only overheating the chest 00:16:31.62\00:16:35.77 but also overheating the pelvic area in men can lead to 00:16:35.80\00:16:39.96 cancer of the testes. 00:16:39.99\00:16:41.53 For decades we have know that if a little boy was born with 00:16:41.56\00:16:47.00 his testes not down in the scrotum but up in the canal 00:16:47.03\00:16:51.98 then that testes that was in the canal, that never did 00:16:52.01\00:16:56.76 come down is something like 60 times more likely to get a 00:16:56.79\00:17:02.31 cancer in it than the normally descended testes into the 00:17:02.34\00:17:09.15 scrotum, so what urologists do is at about the age of 00:17:09.18\00:17:13.60 seven years, or certainly by the age of 15 years, a little boy 00:17:13.63\00:17:17.89 whose testes has not descended properly, that testes will be 00:17:17.92\00:17:23.11 simply removed. 00:17:23.14\00:17:24.26 Most of the time the other testes is quite capable of 00:17:24.29\00:17:28.82 performing all the needs, all the functions that the 00:17:28.85\00:17:32.86 young man would need ever. 00:17:32.89\00:17:35.01 Now another thing that we don't know much about but has been 00:17:35.04\00:17:39.88 implicated in cancer is exposure to high tension electric lines, 00:17:39.91\00:17:45.34 this has not been proven yet and some studies seem to refute 00:17:45.37\00:17:49.51 the idea that electricity is involved in the production of 00:17:49.54\00:17:54.09 cancer, but from the very first study there was enough evidence 00:17:54.12\00:17:58.83 to make me feel that we should try to locate our homes away 00:17:58.86\00:18:03.26 from these high tension power lines believing that if it could 00:18:03.29\00:18:08.63 interfere with the radio reception or TV reception 00:18:08.66\00:18:12.01 that it might be able to interfere somewhat in the 00:18:12.04\00:18:15.54 electrical impulses that the body has and thus interfere 00:18:15.57\00:18:19.58 with the immune system. 00:18:19.61\00:18:20.71 There are some infections very clearly shown to be involved in 00:18:20.74\00:18:27.31 cancer, one of those is hepatitis C, hepatitis C is 00:18:27.34\00:18:34.30 common and getting to be more common, and we need to learn 00:18:34.33\00:18:38.54 as much as we can about that so that we can avoid getting 00:18:38.57\00:18:42.10 hepatitis C, Dr. Miller would you talk with us some 00:18:42.13\00:18:45.26 about hepatitis C and what to do to keep from getting it 00:18:45.29\00:18:49.92 and so forth. 00:18:49.95\00:18:50.92 - Well hepatitis C as we understand is transmitted 00:18:50.93\00:18:54.10 through blood and body fluids, and the problem with Hepatitis C 00:18:54.13\00:18:59.70 is it's incubation period, it incubates in about 6 months 00:18:59.73\00:19:03.68 and all during that time a person who has been infected 00:19:03.71\00:19:06.92 with the hepatitis C virus is infectious and they can 00:19:06.95\00:19:10.94 pass it on to other people in their environment and so it's 00:19:10.97\00:19:13.90 very important to be careful, and how are you careful 00:19:13.94\00:19:18.42 you don't know who has it out there. 00:19:18.45\00:19:19.94 Well for the most part, those people who are at risk, 00:19:19.97\00:19:23.39 and I'm not going to try to classify all those people who 00:19:23.42\00:19:26.61 are at risk for hepatitis C, but certainly those who get 00:19:26.64\00:19:30.12 blood transfusions if somehow or other the blood bank has 00:19:30.15\00:19:33.84 been polluted with this particular virus, those who are 00:19:33.87\00:19:39.62 intravenous drug users, those who engage in risky sex, 00:19:39.65\00:19:45.38 anything outside of marriage is risky sex, those things can 00:19:45.41\00:19:49.08 be a major problem with transmitting it and if someone 00:19:49.11\00:19:51.55 doesn't know then it passes it on down the line, so we need to 00:19:51.58\00:19:55.71 learn how first of all not to get hepatitis, it's a serious 00:19:55.75\00:19:58.68 problem that a person has it attacks the liver and when a 00:19:58.71\00:20:03.85 cell gets weakened the cell opens itself up, or it's cell is 00:20:03.88\00:20:09.30 opened up, it is exposed to the opportunity of becoming 00:20:09.33\00:20:12.44 invaded by cancer, becoming cancerous itself. 00:20:12.47\00:20:15.13 So we find that people who have hepatitis C, down the line 00:20:15.16\00:20:19.30 they are set up for things like cirrhosis of the liver or 00:20:19.33\00:20:23.78 cancer of the liver, so what we need to do is first, 00:20:23.81\00:20:26.33 don't get it, but if we do get it there are some simple 00:20:26.36\00:20:28.78 things that we can do to take care of ourselves. 00:20:28.81\00:20:31.48 One, we need to take care of the liver that's where it's 00:20:31.51\00:20:34.53 going to attack, we can do hot fomentations, just a hot 00:20:34.56\00:20:37.79 compress over the liver and leave that there for awhile 00:20:37.82\00:20:41.89 and do a cold sponging after that and then you take a shower 00:20:41.92\00:20:45.89 you might even do a series of hot fomentations and then cold 00:20:45.92\00:20:50.00 rubs, hot fomentations, cold rubs, what this is going to do 00:20:50.03\00:20:54.12 is bring some more circulation and some healing into the 00:20:54.15\00:20:58.94 liver area. 00:20:58.97\00:21:00.40 The diet has to be as clean as it can be, you have to stay 00:21:00.43\00:21:04.00 off the sugars, you have to stay off the fats, you have to 00:21:04.03\00:21:06.38 stay off the animal products and eat a pure diet, 00:21:06.41\00:21:10.36 as pure a diet as you can find. 00:21:10.39\00:21:12.18 Grapefruit Seed Extract would also be good for recovering 00:21:12.21\00:21:16.63 the liver, I like to for patients who have liver problems 00:21:16.66\00:21:20.16 or want to sit there and rejunivate their liver take some 00:21:20.19\00:21:22.94 lemon juice in some water each day, lemon juice is extremely 00:21:22.97\00:21:26.87 good liver tonic and it will be good for the liver. 00:21:26.90\00:21:29.67 Garlic, extremely good for the liver and I would recommend 00:21:29.70\00:21:32.96 somebody with hepatitis to eat a lot of garlic, it may come out 00:21:32.99\00:21:39.10 of their pores a little bit and make them a little bit 00:21:39.13\00:21:41.18 anti-social but I'd rather... If I had hepatitis you 00:21:41.21\00:21:44.99 don't need to be all that close to everybody in the neighborhood 00:21:45.02\00:21:47.35 any way. 00:21:47.38\00:21:48.35 There a few herbs that you can take, you can take Milk Thistle 00:21:48.36\00:21:52.29 one of the best herbs for the liver, you can take Bilberry 00:21:52.32\00:21:55.18 another nice herb for the liver, Goldenseal, and then of course 00:21:55.21\00:22:00.08 doing the hot and cold treatments I have 00:22:00.11\00:22:01.72 already mentioned. 00:22:01.75\00:22:02.72 I knew a person a few years ago who all of a sudden out of the 00:22:02.73\00:22:08.72 blue it seems, developed hepatitis C and immediately 00:22:08.75\00:22:13.60 went to work on it, doing these simple things you've got that 00:22:13.63\00:22:18.23 diet right, did the hydrotherapy right, took the herbs right, 00:22:18.26\00:22:22.11 and within 6 months she was negative for the hepatitis C 00:22:22.14\00:22:26.46 and I saw her a few years ago in Austria and she has been 00:22:26.49\00:22:29.06 completely well now for awhile, it's been seven or eight years. 00:22:29.09\00:22:32.24 So if we grab the reigns immediately if we do get out 00:22:32.27\00:22:36.98 of control, grab the reigns immediately, bring this thing 00:22:37.01\00:22:40.27 under control, it's a good chance that you could even 00:22:40.30\00:22:43.48 beat this terrible disease Dr. Thrash and that's what I 00:22:43.51\00:22:46.92 recommend. 00:22:46.95\00:22:47.92 - Yes! Hepatitis is a very serious disease and we can 00:22:47.93\00:22:52.08 combat it, we've had some cases at Uchee Pines, 00:22:52.11\00:22:56.75 we have advised their treatment and they have gone through 00:22:56.78\00:23:01.67 the herbal things and the lifestyle factors and they have 00:23:01.70\00:23:07.15 had a reduction in the liver enzymes that they have had, 00:23:07.18\00:23:12.45 I personally have not had a case that has become negative to 00:23:12.48\00:23:17.30 the serology tests for the virus. 00:23:17.33\00:23:19.72 The stresses that we are subjected to all the time 00:23:19.75\00:23:25.65 these can weaken the immune system and make it so that we 00:23:25.68\00:23:28.33 are more likely to develop cancer. 00:23:28.36\00:23:31.21 People who have mental illnesses, especially those who 00:23:31.24\00:23:34.99 are institutionalized, they tend to get more cancers 00:23:35.02\00:23:38.74 than do people who are not institutionalized, I don't know 00:23:38.77\00:23:42.80 why that is whether it's the medications that they take 00:23:42.83\00:23:45.66 it may have some cancer promoting activity or whether 00:23:45.69\00:23:50.23 this may be some innate feature of being mentally ill 00:23:50.26\00:23:55.94 that weakens the immune system, whatever it is just as a 00:23:55.97\00:23:59.68 class of patients they do tend to get more cancers and to die 00:23:59.71\00:24:04.67 a little earlier than other people do. 00:24:04.70\00:24:07.21 Perhaps some of the inflammatory substances which produce many 00:24:07.24\00:24:13.44 chronic progressive illnesses, maybe some of these are involved 00:24:13.47\00:24:18.01 in the shortened life span of people with severe 00:24:18.04\00:24:22.67 hospitalizable types of mental illness. 00:24:24.08\00:24:26.38 Now there is sexually transmitted diseases that are 00:24:26.42\00:24:29.71 known to be associated with cancer, one of those 00:24:29.74\00:24:32.66 is syphilis. 00:24:32.69\00:24:33.78 When I was in medical school I remember that the man who 00:24:33.81\00:24:38.69 taught us eye, ear, nose, and throat diseases said that 00:24:38.72\00:24:43.65 there were three causes of cancer of the mouth and throat 00:24:43.68\00:24:48.67 and those were syphilis, and poor oral hygiene, and carious 00:24:48.70\00:24:54.84 teeth, so I have come to believe that many of the sexually 00:24:54.87\00:25:01.55 transmitted disorders or diseases can be associated with 00:25:01.58\00:25:06.15 an increased risk of getting a cancer. 00:25:06.18\00:25:10.27 Cancer of the cervix may be classified as a sexually 00:25:10.30\00:25:15.56 transmitted disease, there is the human Papillomas virus 00:25:15.59\00:25:20.92 and it can be transmitted from one sexual partner to another 00:25:20.95\00:25:24.31 and especially when there are multiple partners in the life 00:25:24.34\00:25:29.12 of an individual, we do know that there is an increase in the 00:25:29.15\00:25:33.47 number of cases of cancer of the foreskin and cancer of the 00:25:33.50\00:25:38.22 cervix, the human Papillomas virus is one that is a virus 00:25:38.25\00:25:42.86 that's involved in that. 00:25:42.89\00:25:44.46 Then we know that the Burkitt's Lymphoma, this lymphoma that's 00:25:44.49\00:25:52.71 characteristic of people with AIDS and people who live in 00:25:52.74\00:25:56.93 countries such as Africa, this is also apparently somewhat of a 00:25:56.96\00:26:02.31 sexually transmitted disease, that matter is not entirely 00:26:02.34\00:26:08.57 clear yet but certainly there are some indications 00:26:08.60\00:26:12.34 that it is true. 00:26:12.37\00:26:13.43 Thyroid disorders, maybe because of a weakening of the immune 00:26:13.46\00:26:19.82 system possibly because of the taking of a hormone on a 00:26:19.85\00:26:26.10 long term basis, this could also be a feature in the 00:26:26.13\00:26:30.64 formation of breast cancer, not much has recently been 00:26:30.67\00:26:34.14 presented in that in the medical literature but a number of 00:26:34.17\00:26:38.45 years ago there was an indication that in women who 00:26:38.48\00:26:42.84 did not need to take thyroid hormone but were taking it 00:26:42.87\00:26:47.06 just because of some symptom that was apparently related to 00:26:47.09\00:26:52.18 some other problem such as being chilly in mild weather 00:26:52.21\00:26:57.31 or having some lack of energy, or some other symptom that was 00:26:57.34\00:27:08.68 just general that these individuals would take thyroid 00:27:08.71\00:27:13.40 over a long period of time to boost these functions and they 00:27:13.43\00:27:17.97 tend to have a slightly higher risk of getting cancer 00:27:18.00\00:27:21.84 of the breast. 00:27:21.87\00:27:22.97 Now with studying all of these things we see that infections 00:27:23.00\00:27:27.34 are involved, that pollutants in our surroundings are 00:27:27.37\00:27:31.68 involved, that certain lifestyle factors and food 00:27:32.19\00:27:35.05 factors are involved in increasing our risks for getting 00:27:35.08\00:27:38.61 cancer, there are many others we've only scratched the surface 00:27:38.64\00:27:42.62 of the known risks for cancer, we invite you and encourage 00:27:42.65\00:27:47.46 you to study about these matters and to make yourself 00:27:47.49\00:27:50.80 knowledgeable so that you can resist these increasing numbers 00:27:50.83\00:27:55.29 of cancer risks in our society. 00:27:55.32\00:27:58.02
