Since the beginning of time men on this earth have used 00:00:01.98\00:00:05.58 herbal products to treat disease, there as natural 00:00:05.61\00:00:10.47 as the whole of the out of doors. 00:00:10.50\00:00:12.78 You will hear a lot these days about herbal products 00:00:12.81\00:00:16.46 and how many people are using them. 00:00:16.49\00:00:18.70 We need to learn how to use them in a proper manner 00:00:18.73\00:00:21.37 so we can get the most out of it and also that we 00:00:21.40\00:00:24.63 won't have any danger of being harmed by herbs. 00:00:24.66\00:00:28.92 So if you have an interest in this very natural 00:00:28.95\00:00:31.68 type of treatment, we hope you will join us for this program 00:00:31.71\00:00:34.66 because we will be talking about several of these. 00:00:34.69\00:00:36.97 Welcome to Help Yourself to Health 00:00:56.40\00:00:58.90 with Dr. Agatha Thrash of Uchee Pines Institute 00:00:58.93\00:01:02.06 and now here is your host Dr. Thrash. 00:01:02.09\00:01:05.35 When I first heard of herbal remedies, 00:01:05.38\00:01:09.71 I thought how antiquated is the thought of taking an herb. 00:01:09.74\00:01:17.40 But when I was in medical school for an uncomfortable 00:01:17.43\00:01:23.34 problem that I had one month somebody said here, 00:01:23.37\00:01:26.91 drink this tea, so I drank the tea, in minutes I was no 00:01:26.94\00:01:33.47 longer uncomfortable, and I said what was that? 00:01:33.50\00:01:37.59 She said why that was Lydia Pinkham's Compound, 00:01:37.62\00:01:42.74 I said Lydia Pinkham, 00:01:42.77\00:01:45.28 I thought that Lydia Pinkham's closed up 00:01:45.31\00:01:47.69 about 75 or 100 years ago. 00:01:47.73\00:01:50.35 It was amazing how much benefit I received from that 00:01:50.38\00:01:55.11 herbal remedy. 00:01:55.14\00:01:56.51 But then I went through pharmacology, 00:01:56.54\00:02:00.97 and I went my clinical training and after the clinical years, 00:02:01.00\00:02:05.10 I was very well indoctrinated in the general allopathic 00:02:05.13\00:02:11.29 way of practicing medicine with drugs and surgery 00:02:11.32\00:02:15.12 and it never crossed my mind to ever even investigate 00:02:15.15\00:02:18.71 about herbs, it was a number of years later, 00:02:19.18\00:02:21.78 maybe 20 years later when I met a man who a horticulturist 00:02:21.81\00:02:28.36 a PhD., in botany, had worked with the 00:02:28.39\00:02:32.40 Department of Agriculture for many years 00:02:32.43\00:02:35.61 and truly enjoyed investigating about herbs. 00:02:35.64\00:02:40.35 I began to realize that herbs have been thoroughly researched 00:02:40.38\00:02:45.74 in some instances, and their safety has been determined 00:02:45.77\00:02:49.91 and their effectiveness has been worked out 00:02:49.94\00:02:53.76 and we began rather gingerly to use a few herbs 00:02:53.79\00:03:00.18 and as we learned a little bit about a few herbs, 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.88 we were emboldened to learn a bit about a few more, 00:03:02.91\00:03:06.45 and when we found out how very effective they are 00:03:06.48\00:03:09.45 we began to realize, this is something that the Lord 00:03:09.48\00:03:13.46 has provided for us to use to treat people with 00:03:13.49\00:03:17.73 in cases of sickness. 00:03:17.76\00:03:19.65 Then came up the whole subject of their safety, 00:03:19.68\00:03:23.66 a lot of medical journals were carrying warning articles 00:03:23.69\00:03:27.56 BEWARE of this or that kind of herb, this can be toxic 00:03:27.59\00:03:34.35 in this way and somebody was found to be injured 00:03:34.38\00:03:37.32 with this herb or that herb maybe, 00:03:37.35\00:03:39.69 so I began to wonder about the safety of the herbs. 00:03:39.72\00:03:44.10 One day I began to compare how many people had died 00:03:44.13\00:03:50.54 from some kind of herbal preparation, 00:03:50.57\00:03:54.28 and how many people had died from some kind of 00:03:54.31\00:03:57.38 pharmaceutical preparation, and I thought to myself 00:03:57.41\00:04:01.50 herbs are incredibly safe, and they are also highly effective 00:04:01.53\00:04:07.51 in many cases. 00:04:07.54\00:04:08.70 So as time has gone by, I have found that those herbs 00:04:08.73\00:04:15.98 that we use on a customary basis, that they are incredibly 00:04:16.01\00:04:20.28 safe, they can be used even in over dosage by people who 00:04:20.31\00:04:24.37 never had any kind of training at all, and they do 00:04:24.40\00:04:27.36 perfectly well in handling the herbs. 00:04:27.39\00:04:29.93 So instead of being fearful of herbs, we should study herbs, 00:04:29.96\00:04:33.96 we should try to get some observations that can be 00:04:33.99\00:04:36.66 helpful not only in our own families, but also to share 00:04:36.69\00:04:41.08 with our friends and neighbors, and people who go to our church. 00:04:41.11\00:04:45.03 Thinking about the safety of various herbs, 00:04:45.06\00:04:51.31 brings us to think about the safety of certain other 00:04:51.34\00:04:54.04 kinds of supplements. 00:04:54.07\00:04:55.28 What about nutrient supplements are they always safe? 00:04:55.31\00:04:59.87 Can these be used indiscriminately? 00:04:59.90\00:05:02.86 Or do we need to have a little education about them 00:05:02.89\00:05:06.01 so that we can keep from injuring someone with 00:05:06.04\00:05:09.97 the nutrient supplements that we have. 00:05:10.00\00:05:12.53 So Dr. Don Miller is with me today, 00:05:12.56\00:05:14.95 and he has done a little study in nutrient supplements 00:05:14.98\00:05:18.94 and he is going to share some of that with us now. 00:05:18.97\00:05:21.01 - Ok! Nutrient supplements are quite common in the 00:05:21.04\00:05:24.10 United States, about 158,000,000 Americans on an average basis, 00:05:24.13\00:05:32.51 or common basis use supplements, spending about 00:05:32.54\00:05:36.04 8.5 billion dollars on the things, so there must be 00:05:36.07\00:05:40.07 something to them or it's a pretty good salesman job. 00:05:40.10\00:05:43.37 But I think there is something to supplementation, 00:05:43.40\00:05:46.01 but let me say at the very beginning, 00:05:46.04\00:05:48.10 the best supplementation you can do is by eating 00:05:48.13\00:05:51.62 the right foods, fruits, vegetables, whole grains nuts, 00:05:51.65\00:05:54.52 and seeds, prepared in as natural form as possible, 00:05:54.55\00:05:57.74 eaten with a peaceful mind, is your best supplementation. 00:05:57.77\00:06:01.60 Because of all of the supplements that we take, 00:06:01.63\00:06:04.68 probably Americans have the most expensive urine 00:06:04.71\00:06:08.51 in the entire world, because most of it, especially the 00:06:08.54\00:06:11.10 water soluble vitamins are going right out into the urine 00:06:11.13\00:06:15.40 the fat soul able can over a period of time accumulate 00:06:15.43\00:06:19.03 in the body and cause us other problems. 00:06:19.06\00:06:21.11 If we are taking supplementation as a prophylactic's 00:06:21.14\00:06:25.55 or just on a daily maintenance dose, I don't really recommend 00:06:25.58\00:06:29.93 this because your body can get used to taking it in a 00:06:29.96\00:06:34.68 pill form, and often in a really..., taken away from all 00:06:34.71\00:06:38.57 of it's constituent coding in such an un-natural form 00:06:38.60\00:06:42.44 that it really looses the knack for being able 00:06:42.47\00:06:45.76 to pull it out of another product, 00:06:45.79\00:06:47.90 let's say like vitamin C, if you take a lot of vitamin C 00:06:47.93\00:06:51.35 every single day, because we know it's good for us 00:06:51.38\00:06:53.67 our body can become so used to using it from the pill 00:06:53.70\00:06:57.46 when we get off of the tablet, when we get off of the pill, 00:06:57.49\00:07:00.48 the body may have forgotten how to draw 00:07:00.51\00:07:03.11 out of the orange, out of the avocado, and we can get 00:07:03.14\00:07:07.15 then a C deficiency problem, and so it's best to use it 00:07:07.18\00:07:11.31 when we need it. 00:07:11.34\00:07:12.40 I like to supplement or have people supplement, 00:07:12.43\00:07:15.04 when they have a reason for supplementation. 00:07:15.07\00:07:18.26 Now there are certain supplementations, 00:07:18.29\00:07:20.34 and I'm going to mention a few in just a few moments here 00:07:20.37\00:07:23.09 that we... we're going to let you think 00:07:23.49\00:07:27.16 about what you think is right. 00:07:27.19\00:07:28.71 The main one we think about, the main one that people are 00:07:28.74\00:07:32.04 concerned with is vitamin B12, should we supplement with 00:07:32.07\00:07:35.33 vitamin B12? 00:07:35.36\00:07:36.39 Well normally if a person is not a vegetarian 00:07:36.42\00:07:39.98 they don't have to worry about it for the most part, 00:07:40.01\00:07:42.76 although now days, animals are getting so many antibiotics 00:07:42.79\00:07:46.13 they don't have B12, but for the most part you don't have 00:07:46.16\00:07:49.22 to worry, lacto-ovo vegetarians will probably be getting enough 00:07:49.25\00:07:52.99 vitamin B12 through these products to take care of their 00:07:53.02\00:07:56.92 systems. 00:07:56.95\00:07:57.95 I have known people, I know people who have been vegans, 00:07:57.98\00:08:00.92 that means total vegetarians their entire lives, 00:08:00.95\00:08:03.87 who do not have any vitamin B12 insufficiencies or 00:08:03.90\00:08:08.18 manifestations in their bodies, and so it's not a problem 00:08:08.21\00:08:11.78 for them, but if a person's worried about it, 00:08:11.81\00:08:14.02 then I would say go ahead and supplement with B12, 00:08:14.05\00:08:16.93 get the sublingual kind, the type that you chew up 00:08:16.96\00:08:19.81 and swallow, not just taking the pill. 00:08:19.84\00:08:21.71 You can get this type and make sure there not from 00:08:21.74\00:08:25.02 an animal source, so B12 especially when you start to get 00:08:25.05\00:08:28.96 older or if you are rather sedentary or infirmed 00:08:28.99\00:08:32.27 perhaps B12 could be an idea that you could take. 00:08:32.30\00:08:36.10 I'm certainly not against taking the vitamin B12. 00:08:36.13\00:08:38.95 Vitamin E, it's an extremely good thing to have in the body 00:08:38.98\00:08:43.76 it's an anti-oxidant, but we should get our vitamin E from 00:08:43.79\00:08:48.03 our foods, it's a fat soluble vitamin, our body is then able 00:08:48.06\00:08:51.44 to store it in the fat and use it over a period of time, 00:08:51.47\00:08:54.73 If it's not something that you eat, if doesn't use it 00:08:54.76\00:08:56.75 it goes out of the body, you save it. 00:08:56.78\00:08:58.85 But if you want a therapeutic dose of vitamin E, 00:08:58.88\00:09:02.88 perhaps 1,000 mcg day would be where you would want to go. 00:09:02.91\00:09:06.61 You don't need to have a whole lot just get a little bit, 00:09:06.64\00:09:10.34 I meant 400 I.U., I was looking up at my vitamin B12 00:09:10.37\00:09:16.04 list for the maintenance, so about 400 I.U. per day 00:09:16.07\00:09:20.65 for the E if you are trying to get over a particular problem. 00:09:20.68\00:09:25.34 Calcium, eat your greens, eat your fruit, eat your vegetables 00:09:25.37\00:09:31.51 for your calcium, if you are prone to osteoporosis, 00:09:31.55\00:09:35.29 if you are in line to get osteoporosis because of 00:09:35.32\00:09:38.83 maybe the lifestyle you have been living, you are getting 00:09:38.86\00:09:42.35 in that age, whatever, you are afraid about osteoporosis 00:09:42.38\00:09:45.74 then you might do some supplementation with the calcium 00:09:45.77\00:09:49.10 but be careful with the calcium supplementation because it, 00:09:49.13\00:09:52.50 itself can cause other problems. 00:09:52.53\00:09:54.33 I would not recommend you supplement with more 00:09:54.36\00:09:57.56 dairy protein because all that, or dairy calcium, because that 00:09:57.59\00:10:00.42 causes you because of the protein content, to loose 00:10:00.45\00:10:03.52 more calcium in your urine. 00:10:03.55\00:10:05.64 Vitamin C, eat your oranges, eat your fruits, 00:10:05.67\00:10:09.81 eat your vegetables for your vitamin C. 00:10:09.84\00:10:11.77 If you are going through a period of time when you've got 00:10:11.80\00:10:14.18 a lot of sickness around you then it's time for prophylactic 00:10:14.21\00:10:17.25 measures, time for heroic measures, perhaps you can take 00:10:17.28\00:10:20.64 a little bit more vitamin C during that time, 00:10:20.67\00:10:23.79 but as a maintenance dose I would not recommend it. 00:10:23.82\00:10:26.88 Vitamin D not needed, you get plenty from the sunshine 00:10:26.91\00:10:31.32 if you are getting into the older years, 00:10:31.35\00:10:34.02 you might think about doing some supplementation if 00:10:34.05\00:10:36.38 your are worried about it, if you are sedentary 00:10:36.41\00:10:38.17 you sort of a shut in, between 400 and 1200 I.U. a day 00:10:38.20\00:10:43.37 would be enough for you and your supplementation there. 00:10:43.41\00:10:45.57 Basically the bottom line there is eat your fruits 00:10:45.60\00:10:49.41 and vegetables, people take far more supplements than they 00:10:49.44\00:10:53.31 really need, we spend a lot of money on these supplements 00:10:53.34\00:10:56.98 and we sit there and think in our minds that, 00:10:57.01\00:10:59.37 if I take this supplement, that will take care of my problems. 00:10:59.40\00:11:02.47 What you need to do is eat your fruits, your vegetables, 00:11:02.50\00:11:05.52 your whole grains, your nuts, and your seeds, 00:11:05.55\00:11:08.53 and then get your nutrients there, and then if you have 00:11:08.56\00:11:11.59 any other problem, you say I know I have a deficiency here 00:11:11.62\00:11:14.91 then you do some supplementation. 00:11:14.94\00:11:17.18 You know a lot of people are making a lot of money 00:11:17.21\00:11:20.21 Dr. Thrash on supplements, I think they could spend 00:11:20.24\00:11:23.91 some more of that money on oranges. 00:11:23.94\00:11:25.97 - Yeah! You are right about that, 00:11:26.00\00:11:27.57 I think that a lot of people 00:11:27.60\00:11:30.32 especially overtake on minerals, and when minerals go high 00:11:30.36\00:11:34.34 in the body they can become oxidants, and we talk a lot 00:11:34.37\00:11:38.55 about anti-oxidants, but we should think about oxidants 00:11:38.58\00:11:41.87 as well. 00:11:41.90\00:11:42.87 Iron is an oxidant in a high dose, and can increase the rate 00:11:42.88\00:11:47.83 at which we age, and some of the other minerals are also 00:11:47.86\00:11:51.96 oxidants in high dosage. 00:11:51.99\00:11:54.53 Now I would like to mention next the whole group 00:11:54.56\00:11:58.73 of herbal remedies called anti-inflammatories. 00:11:58.76\00:12:02.84 An inflammation is characterized by redness and swelling and heat 00:12:02.87\00:12:08.30 and pain, and so if you have any of that, then you should 00:12:08.33\00:12:12.48 think of some kind of anti- inflammatory herb, of course 00:12:12.51\00:12:16.04 to supplement the other things that you are doing 00:12:16.07\00:12:17.74 such as exercise, or massage, if that's applicable, 00:12:17.77\00:12:22.21 or passive movements, or hydrotherapy, 00:12:22.24\00:12:27.59 what ever you may be doing otherwise, think also of the 00:12:27.62\00:12:31.32 possibility of using some kind of anti-inflammatory 00:12:31.35\00:12:34.87 herbal agent. 00:12:34.90\00:12:36.05 One of the very best is flax seed, and we often have that 00:12:36.08\00:12:39.63 in the home because of its high fatty acid content, 00:12:39.66\00:12:42.79 it has some excellent fatty acids in it, such as the Omega 3 00:12:42.82\00:12:47.69 types, so we want to take a little of the flax seed 00:12:47.72\00:12:53.58 ground freshly and I want to emphasize the freshly. 00:12:53.61\00:12:57.56 Ground freshly so that it can be of help to the heart 00:12:57.59\00:13:01.79 and the blood vessels, and the blood fats. 00:13:01.82\00:13:05.00 That also is an anti- inflammatory agent, 00:13:05.03\00:13:06.00 in fact one of the ways that it is heart healthy 00:13:06.03\00:13:12.19 is because of it's anti-inflammatory capabilities. 00:13:12.22\00:13:16.11 Also very helpful is that of Hawthorne Berry, 00:13:16.14\00:13:21.92 Hawthorne Berry is a very close relative to crab apple 00:13:21.95\00:13:26.15 and to other apples, they are all in the rose family, 00:13:26.18\00:13:31.88 and so with the capabilities of Hawthorne Berries you can 00:13:31.91\00:13:36.75 can expect that an apple also has some anti-inflammatory 00:13:36.78\00:13:40.71 qualities, and that is true. 00:13:40.74\00:13:42.56 But Hawthorne Berry is far higher in the constituents 00:13:42.59\00:13:46.77 that perform the anti- inflammatory functions for us. 00:13:46.80\00:13:52.61 Ordinary turmeric in the kitchen has many anti-inflammatory 00:13:52.64\00:13:57.57 qualities, it is very good, I could recommend that to you, 00:13:57.60\00:14:00.68 the dosage is about 1/2 teaspoon to a teaspoonful, taken over 00:14:00.71\00:14:05.71 a full day. 00:14:06.00\00:14:07.05 Then there is also Feverfew, Boswellia, the White Willow Bark 00:14:07.08\00:14:13.99 all of these are anti-inflammatory, 00:14:14.02\00:14:17.32 and then there is one that is used far less than it should be, 00:14:17.35\00:14:22.38 and that is Ashwagandha, you can find Ashwagandha at 00:14:22.41\00:14:26.57 most health food stores. 00:14:26.60\00:14:28.18 Ashwagandha has a number of very fine properties, 00:14:28.21\00:14:32.21 it is not an expensive herb and it should be used far more 00:14:32.24\00:14:36.88 than it is, and I would like to see people doing that. 00:14:36.91\00:14:40.76 Every time I go to a country where I can expect to get 00:14:40.79\00:14:46.37 some kind of parasite, Malaria or an intestinal parasite, 00:14:46.40\00:14:51.28 or a skin parasite, I always take with me some Wormwood 00:14:51.31\00:14:55.86 and Dr. Miller has had some experience in going to countries 00:14:55.89\00:15:01.44 where there are parasitic agents, 00:15:01.47\00:15:04.30 either those that affect the blood, or the skin, 00:15:04.33\00:15:06.93 or the bowels, Dr. Miller what do you do when you go to 00:15:06.96\00:15:11.56 the countries that you know you are going to be exposed? 00:15:11.59\00:15:15.32 I pray a lot before I go to these countries, 00:15:15.35\00:15:17.54 because you never know what you are going to get, 00:15:17.57\00:15:19.16 and you get some of these bugs over there, 00:15:19.19\00:15:21.13 and they are with you from now until the final fires. 00:15:21.16\00:15:24.79 It's a sometimes challenging and exciting experience and so 00:15:24.82\00:15:29.34 what I try to do is first of all prepare myself for the trip, 00:15:29.37\00:15:34.32 if the body is strong it is going to be more likely to 00:15:34.35\00:15:36.70 resist any invaders. 00:15:36.73\00:15:38.34 I also take with me one supplement that I like to 00:15:38.37\00:15:40.83 travel with, which is called Grapefruit Seed Extract. 00:15:40.86\00:15:43.78 It's a natural herbal that's been extracted from 00:15:43.81\00:15:46.67 grapefruit seeds, extremely bitter, I add this to my water 00:15:46.70\00:15:50.29 if I'm in an area where I'm not sure of the water source. 00:15:50.32\00:15:52.92 But there are other supplements that I will take with me, 00:15:52.95\00:15:57.03 other herbs, or herbs that I will find when I'm in the area 00:15:57.06\00:16:00.85 which is a wise thing to do if you are going to travel 00:16:00.88\00:16:03.05 into an area, learn about what grows in that area, 00:16:03.08\00:16:07.21 that can be a natural agent to take care of parasites, 00:16:07.24\00:16:12.39 worms, and other things. 00:16:12.42\00:16:13.85 Let's say if you are going to Africa, which I do every 00:16:13.88\00:16:17.11 once in awhile, there the problem is Malaria, 00:16:17.14\00:16:20.77 what are you going to do for Malaria, take a Malaria 00:16:20.80\00:16:22.96 prophylactic's, I don't want to do this, and so what I do 00:16:22.99\00:16:25.81 as soon as I get to Africa, every day, and there is plenty 00:16:25.84\00:16:29.44 of papaya around, I will have a papaya always in the 00:16:29.47\00:16:33.07 refrigerator, and every day, now I usually go overboard, 00:16:33.10\00:16:36.62 they say you can do this two or three times a week, 00:16:36.65\00:16:38.50 every day I'll take between one and two teaspoonfuls 00:16:38.53\00:16:42.23 of papaya seeds, I just put them in my mouth and chew 00:16:42.26\00:16:45.45 them up very well and swallow them, 00:16:45.48\00:16:47.72 they have a very peppery taste. 00:16:47.75\00:16:49.58 It tastes just like the leaf of a Nasturtium, 00:16:49.61\00:16:53.39 another thing that does the same thing as an anti-Malarial. 00:16:53.42\00:16:57.54 So I take this every time I am over there, and I have not 00:16:57.81\00:17:01.87 gotten Malaria yet, an so either I've dodged the mosquito 00:17:01.90\00:17:04.94 or this really does work. 00:17:04.97\00:17:07.86 There are other things that you want to take with you 00:17:07.89\00:17:09.45 or have available, or take once you get back 00:17:09.48\00:17:12.22 as a way to get rid of these things. 00:17:12.25\00:17:13.86 Dr. Thrash has mentioned Wormwood, another one is 00:17:13.89\00:17:17.13 Black Walnut, I usually buy these in an extract form, 00:17:17.16\00:17:20.38 it's very nice to buy it in an extract form, 00:17:20.41\00:17:22.65 I will take these, put them in some hot water, 00:17:22.68\00:17:25.35 if they have been alcohol extracted, 00:17:25.38\00:17:27.92 let that dissipate off, and then drink them. 00:17:27.95\00:17:30.77 Other ones that you can take: Cloves is very good, 00:17:30.80\00:17:34.05 for parasites and other types of things. 00:17:34.08\00:17:37.51 Aloe Vera, these things do not like Aloe Vera, 00:17:37.54\00:17:41.37 you can either take it in the liquid form or you just take it 00:17:41.40\00:17:45.15 scoop it out of the leaf and eat it that way, 00:17:45.18\00:17:47.10 it can cause you to have a little bit of diarrhea, 00:17:47.13\00:17:50.50 but I would rather have that than have the worms in my body. 00:17:50.53\00:17:53.34 Garlic, not matter where you go you are going to find garlic, 00:17:53.37\00:17:57.43 don't leave home without it, buy it once you get there. 00:17:57.46\00:18:00.52 Anything that is inside your body that does not need to 00:18:00.55\00:18:04.74 be there, it will pretty much be expelled by the garlic. 00:18:04.77\00:18:08.24 Thyme, the simple herb Thyme is good for these things, 00:18:08.27\00:18:12.74 False Unicorn, Echinacea, the purple Coneflower, 00:18:12.77\00:18:18.95 I find this growing all around the world, 00:18:18.98\00:18:20.75 this is extremely good. 00:18:20.78\00:18:22.69 Chaparral is another nice thing to help expel the worms or 00:18:22.72\00:18:27.89 kill the worms, another thing that is not herbal but 00:18:27.92\00:18:30.57 is natural is diatomaceous earth. 00:18:30.60\00:18:32.70 If you get some diatomaceous earth in capsule form 00:18:32.73\00:18:35.94 you take a few of these every day, the worms will eat this 00:18:35.97\00:18:40.59 and cause their bodies to basically disintegrate and so 00:18:40.62\00:18:43.59 some simple things that you can do, and there are 00:18:43.62\00:18:45.45 other things, just get a good herb book, at least find out 00:18:45.49\00:18:48.54 the herbs, where you are, what do they do, now 00:18:48.57\00:18:50.72 many of the people there already have these things 00:18:50.75\00:18:53.33 and they can live with them, but sometimes we can't 00:18:53.36\00:18:55.81 live with them, so do what you can and I don't know 00:18:55.84\00:18:59.08 Dr. Thrash it's helped me so far, and I believe in it. 00:18:59.11\00:19:03.28 - Yes I have been helped a lot too, I remember one time I took 00:19:03.31\00:19:05.67 a team to Eastern Europe and the Eastern Bloc Nations 00:19:05.70\00:19:11.40 are rather famous for a little contaminant in their 00:19:11.43\00:19:14.79 water streams that gets in the intestinal tract and makes it so 00:19:14.82\00:19:22.20 that it's not very nice for the American. 00:19:22.23\00:19:26.05 We have no resistance against it of very little, and so when we 00:19:26.08\00:19:31.25 get there we often get the Giardia, and a very effective 00:19:31.28\00:19:36.15 agent for that is the Wormwood, or Artemisia Annua. 00:19:36.18\00:19:39.94 So we took that with us and took a little every day 00:19:39.97\00:19:43.70 it goes under the trade name parasital, so we took 00:19:43.73\00:19:47.31 what was called the prophylactic dose and we were also 00:19:47.34\00:19:50.35 very careful with our water. 00:19:50.38\00:19:52.72 I remember we portioned out the chores to be done every day 00:19:52.75\00:19:58.51 and Dr. Miller's chore was to grind out the water 00:19:58.54\00:20:02.76 so we put it through a micro- pour filter and we didn't get 00:20:02.79\00:20:07.40 the Giardia, any of us. 00:20:07.43\00:20:09.18 Now I would like to talk with you about 00:20:09.21\00:20:11.12 hormone modulators, any time the endocrine system is 00:20:11.15\00:20:15.00 affected in any way, you can use some of the hormone 00:20:15.03\00:20:18.61 modulators which are extremely effective in the human body. 00:20:18.64\00:20:24.48 As an example, people who have prostate cancer or cancer of the 00:20:24.51\00:20:30.51 breast, or they have a thyroid problem or a pituitary problem 00:20:30.54\00:20:34.33 these can be very helpful for the person. 00:20:34.36\00:20:37.72 Saw Palmetto Berry has been sort of categorized 00:20:37.75\00:20:43.20 as the man's herb, for prostate problems, it is good for 00:20:43.23\00:20:48.65 benign prostatic hypertrophy and it's good for cancer 00:20:48.68\00:20:52.72 of the prostate. 00:20:52.75\00:20:53.72 But what most people do not know is that it 00:20:53.73\00:20:57.44 is a very excellent hormone modulator for women as well 00:20:57.47\00:21:01.15 so when women have a problem with menstrual access in any way 00:21:01.18\00:21:07.44 the uterus or the tubes, or the ovaries, or her cycles 00:21:07.47\00:21:14.44 she could be well advised to take the Saw Palmetto Berries 00:21:14.47\00:21:18.46 very good as a hormone modulator. 00:21:18.49\00:21:20.91 It inhibits the five alpha reductase, it's a good inhibitor 00:21:20.94\00:21:26.75 in that way and therefore, has good anti-cancer properties 00:21:26.78\00:21:31.20 for both men and for women. 00:21:31.23\00:21:33.51 It's a hormone antagonist and especially the kind 00:21:33.55\00:21:38.51 that makes a woman have cancer of the breast, 00:21:38.54\00:21:41.37 and a man have cancer of the prostate. 00:21:41.40\00:21:43.06 Then there are properties in soy, many constituents 00:21:43.09\00:21:48.75 in soy that have a modulatory effect on the endocrines. 00:21:48.78\00:21:55.72 Such things as the iso-flavones and of course there are 00:21:55.75\00:22:01.23 proteases, and protease inhibitors and there are 00:22:01.26\00:22:05.67 anti-neoplastic constituents, saponins, and inositol 00:22:05.70\00:22:11.42 and a whole bunch of them in soy that make soy products, 00:22:11.45\00:22:17.47 well soy beans in particular, not so much soy products. 00:22:17.50\00:22:22.21 As each step is made in the manufacturing of soy products 00:22:22.24\00:22:26.39 like soy milk or even tofu as these are manufactured 00:22:26.42\00:22:33.33 a little bit of the good constituents are lost with each 00:22:33.36\00:22:37.69 step, and it makes it so they are less good for you 00:22:37.72\00:22:40.49 than the soy beans themselves. 00:22:40.52\00:22:42.76 No question that in countries where soybeans are used in 00:22:42.79\00:22:48.13 rather large quantity, cancer of the breast is less, 00:22:48.16\00:22:51.95 and cancer of the prostate is of a nature that is not the 00:22:51.98\00:22:56.53 acute form that we more frequently see in the west. 00:22:56.56\00:23:00.29 The first one that I mentioned was Saw Palmetto, 00:23:00.32\00:23:04.60 then next was soy, and the third one is such an excellent 00:23:04.63\00:23:08.08 hormone modulator is flax seed, we could spend the 00:23:08.11\00:23:12.99 rest of the week talking about the benefits of flax seed 00:23:13.02\00:23:16.67 but just to tell you some of the hormone modulatory 00:23:16.70\00:23:20.22 things in it, lignans are the principle ones, not the 00:23:20.25\00:23:24.86 iso-flavones as in soy products, they are phytoestrogen's 00:23:24.89\00:23:32.20 and they assist us in normalizing the whole hormone 00:23:32.23\00:23:38.55 system, by normalizing I mean if it is to high it 00:23:38.58\00:23:41.73 it brings it down, if it's to low it brings it up. 00:23:41.76\00:23:43.91 Very interesting little chemical mechanisms 00:23:43.94\00:23:48.55 that make this happen. 00:23:48.58\00:23:50.75 With flax seed androgen levels fall, now we know that 00:23:50.78\00:23:55.49 androgen levels are very important in the production 00:23:55.52\00:23:58.56 of prostate cancer. 00:23:58.59\00:24:00.00 Now some other herbs that are good hormone modulators but 00:24:00.03\00:24:06.36 maybe not the very top ones, licorice root is pretty much 00:24:06.39\00:24:10.17 close to the top, I like it very much and anybody who has 00:24:10.20\00:24:13.70 any endocrine problem, I usually suggest that they 00:24:13.73\00:24:17.19 try using that. 00:24:17.22\00:24:18.57 Skull cap, Asian and American Ginseng, Chase tree 00:24:18.60\00:24:24.62 which we usually think of as being a woman's herb 00:24:24.65\00:24:27.22 also a very good man's herb especially in cancer of the 00:24:27.25\00:24:30.83 prostate, and then benign prostatic hypertrophy. 00:24:30.86\00:24:34.21 Partridge Berry another hormone modulator, False Unicorn, 00:24:34.24\00:24:38.62 that's a member of the Lily family, along with garlic, 00:24:38.65\00:24:42.19 and onion, and many others. 00:24:42.22\00:24:43.95 And then don't forget Vitamin D, in most men who have 00:24:43.98\00:24:48.32 enlargement of the prostate, or prostate cancer we find that 00:24:48.35\00:24:52.83 they are vitamin D deficient. 00:24:52.86\00:24:54.74 Does that mean that their prostate cancer came on because 00:24:54.77\00:24:58.44 they didn't exercise enough in the sun? 00:24:58.47\00:25:00.69 Or does it mean that they don't hold on to vitamin D well 00:25:00.72\00:25:04.65 or transform it well in their skin? 00:25:04.68\00:25:06.08 We aren't certain why that is, but it is certainly the case 00:25:06.11\00:25:10.91 that they do much better with a good level of vitamin D. 00:25:10.94\00:25:16.82 Now we have a whole class of herbs called sedatives, 00:25:16.85\00:25:22.04 and Dr. Miller with your traveling around do you ever 00:25:22.07\00:25:25.59 have a need to take a sedative to get to sleep? 00:25:25.62\00:25:30.22 - I could sleep standing up, I don't have any problem with 00:25:30.26\00:25:32.72 sleeping normally, but if I do there are some herbs 00:25:32.75\00:25:36.45 that are quite nice, and if I have a patient that needs 00:25:36.48\00:25:38.63 something to help them to sleep, there are some 00:25:38.66\00:25:40.97 very common herbs, probably one of the most common herbs 00:25:41.00\00:25:44.47 that we have in the world, is a herb called hops. 00:25:44.50\00:25:49.25 The reason why it is so common is that it is the basis 00:25:49.28\00:25:52.18 of making beer, and interestingly enough, 00:25:52.21\00:25:55.33 that it's the hops in the beer that is the more dangerous part 00:25:55.36\00:26:00.34 over the alcohol part, because people who drink 00:26:00.37\00:26:03.17 a whole lot of beer, get drowsy, it's an herbal reaction 00:26:03.20\00:26:06.65 from the hops, so I find hops works very nice. 00:26:06.68\00:26:10.41 I've heard about people taking a pillow case and filling it 00:26:10.45\00:26:13.53 full of hops and then sleeping on that, and then aiding in 00:26:13.56\00:26:16.62 thier sleep, but there are other ones besides this. 00:26:16.65\00:26:19.07 One that you know when someone is taking it 00:26:19.10\00:26:23.93 it's called Valerian, Valerian is probably 00:26:23.96\00:26:27.62 one of the most noxious smelling herbs once you've 00:26:27.65\00:26:30.45 used it, but it's an extremely good sleeping aid. 00:26:30.48\00:26:34.28 Catnip is another one, which is in the mint family 00:26:34.31\00:26:37.69 so other mints are very good to help persons sleep. 00:26:37.72\00:26:41.24 Then there is St. John's Wort, we realize we take it for 00:26:41.27\00:26:47.02 anti-depression, but it is also very good to help someone sleep. 00:26:47.05\00:26:50.70 and then there is skull-cap another nice sedative herb. 00:26:50.73\00:26:53.30 But we can take all of the herbs in the world, 00:26:53.34\00:26:55.95 but we have to do the other things that we can do 00:26:55.98\00:26:58.37 to help us to have a good night's sleep, no late suppers, 00:26:58.40\00:27:00.91 no exciting things before bed time, making sure we are not 00:27:00.94\00:27:04.31 taking lots of naps during the day. 00:27:04.34\00:27:05.89 There are some simple things we can do Father to help herbs 00:27:05.92\00:27:08.77 help us to have a better life style. 00:27:08.80\00:27:11.07 - Yes, and we can be most grateful for these because 00:27:11.10\00:27:15.26 the Lord has given these to us to make certain that we know 00:27:15.29\00:27:19.10 that He is a father of love, and that He has provided 00:27:19.13\00:27:22.72 for all of our illnesses. 00:27:22.75\00:27:24.08 I don't know of any illness that won't be helped somewhat 00:27:24.11\00:27:27.48 by taking some kind of herb, and most of these as I said 00:27:27.51\00:27:31.70 in the beginning, these are incredibly safe for us 00:27:31.73\00:27:34.93 and if the question is between an herb or a drug, 00:27:34.96\00:27:39.66 the safest one is almost hands down, in favor for 00:27:39.69\00:27:44.06 the herbs, so we can recommend these, 00:27:44.09\00:27:46.36 and of course people have used them forever and anon 00:27:46.39\00:27:50.62 so we know that they are safe. 00:27:50.65\00:27:52.56 So may the Lord bless you by understanding that 00:27:52.59\00:27:55.61 our Heavenly Father has made provision for every need. 00:27:55.64\00:27:59.17
