Dr. Miller 00:01:18.64\00:01:22.04 Well, I think one of the greatest benefits of 00:01:22.07\00:01:23.76 sunshine is... it's free! 00:01:23.80\00:01:25.01 It's up there, it just hangs out, and it gives us all 00:01:25.04\00:01:27.37 the benefits that we could ever want from any medication 00:01:27.40\00:01:31.04 and even more so. 00:01:31.07\00:01:32.27 And one of the biggest problems we have, 00:01:32.30\00:01:34.48 in certain environments, is infections... 00:01:34.51\00:01:36.89 and sunlight is a natural bacterial agent. 00:01:36.92\00:01:40.08 It will cleanse things. 00:01:40.11\00:01:41.38 As a matter of fact, if you see an animal that gets itself 00:01:41.41\00:01:43.87 injured somehow, it will crawl out into the sunshine 00:01:43.90\00:01:47.10 to heal itself, rather than crawl over into the shade. 00:01:47.13\00:01:50.09 And so there are certainly some wonderful benefits 00:01:50.12\00:01:52.95 to sunshine... But there's more than that 00:01:52.98\00:01:54.63 I've got a list of them here... 00:01:54.66\00:01:56.46 Besides destroying harmful bacteria, 00:01:56.49\00:01:58.81 it lowers the blood pressure. 00:01:58.84\00:02:00.53 Basically, as you get out into the sunshine, 00:02:00.56\00:02:02.75 it allows your vascular system to relax; 00:02:02.76\00:02:05.83 therefore, your heart stops pushing so hard to get the 00:02:05.84\00:02:08.48 blood through... your blood pressure goes down. 00:02:08.51\00:02:11.12 As a matter of fact, you might want to try an experiment. 00:02:11.15\00:02:14.35 If your blood pressure is mildly elevated, 00:02:14.38\00:02:17.35 take your blood pressure in the house, check what it is... 00:02:17.38\00:02:20.60 Go outside, give yourself a half-hour sunbath. 00:02:20.63\00:02:24.65 Now when I say sunbath, you don sit there and take off 00:02:24.66\00:02:26.98 all the clothes and lay there. 00:02:27.01\00:02:28.54 What you want to do, is just let your legs, your arms, 00:02:28.57\00:02:31.21 your face get exposed to the sun for about a half-hour. 00:02:31.24\00:02:34.66 And then, take your blood pressure again. 00:02:34.69\00:02:37.50 Normally, you will find a significant drop 00:02:37.53\00:02:40.33 in your blood pressure. 00:02:40.37\00:02:41.68 If you couple the sunshine with exercise, 00:02:41.71\00:02:44.76 it goes down even further. 00:02:44.77\00:02:46.32 And the nice thing is the effects of that sunbath 00:02:46.35\00:02:51.40 will maintain itself for a couple of days. 00:02:51.43\00:02:54.56 And so, on days when the sun isn't shinning, 00:02:54.59\00:02:57.42 it takes benefit of the sunshine you got last time it did shine. 00:02:57.45\00:03:03.10 It decreases blood cholesterol. 00:03:03.13\00:03:05.80 Cholesterol is a major problem in developed countries, 00:03:05.83\00:03:08.76 but sunshine will help the cholesterol go down. 00:03:08.79\00:03:11.93 It increases the vitamin D. 00:03:11.96\00:03:13.54 Now it is interesting that increasing the vitamin D... 00:03:13.55\00:03:15.96 is the same way in which it lowers the cholesterol 00:03:15.99\00:03:19.12 because we all have cholesterol in our bodies 00:03:19.13\00:03:22.45 just below the skin layer. 00:03:22.46\00:03:23.89 As sunlight strikes the skin, it converts the cholesterol 00:03:23.92\00:03:29.52 into a pre-vitamin D form. 00:03:29.53\00:03:32.59 And it goes out and becomes, in the liver, into vitamin D. 00:03:32.62\00:03:37.28 Now, since you've taken the cholesterol out of 00:03:37.31\00:03:40.13 that layer of the skin, where it needs to be, 00:03:40.16\00:03:42.14 it's been replaced by cholesterol that's flowing 00:03:42.17\00:03:45.26 in the bloodstream... where it also needs to be. 00:03:45.27\00:03:47.67 You see, cholesterol is a very needed part of our body. 00:03:47.70\00:03:50.93 And so, now that it has gone down in the bloodstream, 00:03:50.96\00:03:54.99 it's got to find some cholesterol to replace it there. 00:03:55.02\00:03:57.88 It's not going to send you out to get a hamburger... 00:03:57.91\00:03:59.91 What it will do... is take cholesterol from plaques 00:03:59.92\00:04:03.11 that might be building up in your artery walls; 00:04:03.14\00:04:05.23 therefore, bringing you back up to the level. 00:04:05.26\00:04:07.27 So, sunshine is good for both of those things. 00:04:07.30\00:04:09.86 It lowers excessively high blood sugars! 00:04:09.89\00:04:14.33 I know a young man... well, he's not so young anymore, 00:04:14.36\00:04:16.77 he's in his mid 30s. 00:04:16.80\00:04:18.03 He is a juvenile diabetic. 00:04:18.06\00:04:20.16 He has had this since he was a very young child. 00:04:20.19\00:04:23.31 To look at the man, you'd never know he had diabetes. 00:04:23.34\00:04:26.71 He's physically well-proportioned. 00:04:26.74\00:04:29.95 His eyesight is good. 00:04:29.98\00:04:31.36 He's doing extremely well. 00:04:31.39\00:04:33.33 But he has learned to regulate his body... 00:04:33.36\00:04:35.75 through diet, through exercise and through sunshine. 00:04:35.78\00:04:39.08 Sunshine can act as a natural insulin agent taking glucose 00:04:39.11\00:04:45.54 into the cells, and so is a very nice thing. 00:04:45.57\00:04:47.93 So if you have somebody who is diabetic, 00:04:47.96\00:04:50.52 SUNSHINE is extremely needed. 00:04:50.55\00:04:52.72 It increases our white blood cells. 00:04:52.75\00:04:55.50 Our white blood cells are those armies... the army that God 00:04:55.53\00:04:58.68 has placed within our bodies to fight infections and diseases 00:04:58.71\00:05:02.21 Sunshine will increase the number of the white blood cells 00:05:02.22\00:05:06.22 And not only the number, it will also increase 00:05:06.25\00:05:08.81 their motility through the body. 00:05:08.85\00:05:10.60 You see, as you get into the sunshine, it can raise your 00:05:10.63\00:05:13.54 body temperature just a small amount, 00:05:13.57\00:05:15.40 and any rise in temperature, will increase the movement 00:05:15.43\00:05:19.78 of these particular army soldiers in your system. 00:05:19.81\00:05:23.90 It lowers respiration rate. 00:05:23.93\00:05:26.46 Therefore, your breathing not only is slower, 00:05:26.49\00:05:29.95 but your deeper breaths are there. 00:05:29.98\00:05:32.02 And most people don't breathe properly in the first place. 00:05:32.05\00:05:34.66 We'll talk about that a little bit later... 00:05:34.69\00:05:36.20 But it does lower your respiration rate. 00:05:36.23\00:05:38.73 It strengthens your heart. 00:05:38.76\00:05:40.43 It slows your resting heart rate. 00:05:40.46\00:05:43.24 The word "resting" and "heart rate," our heart always rests 00:05:43.27\00:05:47.66 It beats and then it rests, it beats and it rests 00:05:47.69\00:05:51.24 The slower the heart rate, the longer the rest. 00:05:51.27\00:05:54.55 And so, if you want that muscle to rest, and that's the one 00:05:54.58\00:05:57.47 muscle in your body that works throughout your entire life. 00:05:57.50\00:06:01.49 When it stops working, you stop working. 00:06:01.52\00:06:03.64 It allows the blood to carry more oxygen. 00:06:03.67\00:06:08.37 Oxygen is absolutely vital to the body. 00:06:08.40\00:06:10.98 As a matter of fact, they've done some studies 00:06:11.01\00:06:12.66 They find that if you take a cell, and deprive it 00:06:12.69\00:06:17.42 of adequate amounts of oxygen, not all oxygen, 00:06:17.45\00:06:20.15 that would kill it... 00:06:20.18\00:06:21.23 But you just don't let it get a good healthy amount of 00:06:21.26\00:06:24.30 oxygen, within a short period of time, that cell becomes 00:06:24.33\00:06:27.58 a malignant cell. It becomes a cancerous cell. 00:06:27.59\00:06:29.96 And so, by getting more oxygen in the blood, 00:06:29.97\00:06:32.75 we've got more health to the tissues. 00:06:32.78\00:06:35.04 It increases our tolerance to stress. 00:06:35.07\00:06:38.41 We're living in a stressful world. 00:06:38.44\00:06:40.00 You go out in the sunshine, and you lay there... 00:06:40.03\00:06:43.20 Try it sometime! 00:06:43.23\00:06:44.50 Stress situation... usually stress happens inside. 00:06:44.53\00:06:47.71 You go outside, and it seems like the stress just 00:06:47.74\00:06:50.62 sort of goes away, because the sunlight 00:06:50.65\00:06:53.09 has a way of taking that stress away. 00:06:53.12\00:06:56.07 And, it prevents cancer of the colon. 00:06:56.10\00:06:58.42 Isn't that interesting? 00:06:58.45\00:06:59.88 Sunlight will decrease cancer of the colon. 00:06:59.91\00:07:03.32 Now, there's the negative side of sunlight. 00:07:03.35\00:07:06.23 You can get too much sunlight and cause sunburns. 00:07:06.26\00:07:09.21 Every time you cause your skin to be burned, 00:07:09.24\00:07:12.77 you're setting yourself up for damage down the line... 00:07:12.80\00:07:15.65 and other types of diseases. 00:07:15.66\00:07:16.90 And so don't let your skin get damaged. 00:07:16.93\00:07:19.02 Between 10 o'clock in the morning, 00:07:19.03\00:07:21.14 and 3 o'clock in the afternoon, stay out of direct sunlight. 00:07:21.17\00:07:24.86 But before then and after then, 00:07:24.89\00:07:26.71 sunlight is not a bad thing to have. 00:07:26.74\00:07:28.86 Now, that's talking about sun. 00:07:28.87\00:07:31.42 There's the other "Son. " 00:07:31.45\00:07:33.26 TRUSTING IN THE LORD! 00:07:33.29\00:07:34.30 TRUSTING IN JESUS! TRUSTING IN GOD! 00:07:34.33\00:07:36.55 And there are many, many studies coming down the pike 00:07:36.58\00:07:39.77 today, that talks about the benefits of belief in something. 00:07:39.80\00:07:44.51 On the same line, there's been another study showing 00:07:44.54\00:07:47.31 that a person who believes error, 00:07:47.34\00:07:49.44 as strongly as a someone who believes truth, 00:07:49.47\00:07:51.81 even believing that error, will give them a more 00:07:51.84\00:07:55.43 impaired immune system. 00:07:55.46\00:07:57.13 So believing in truth, and God is the Truth, 00:07:57.16\00:07:59.92 believe in Him... He will help you. 00:07:59.95\00:08:02.25 We've seen studies... They've done some studies 00:08:02.28\00:08:04.33 about people who are prayed for, ... have less coronary events. 00:08:04.34\00:08:07.67 ...have less complications. They do a whole lot better. 00:08:07.70\00:08:10.94 And just that act of asking God to help you... 00:08:10.97\00:08:14.76 Going to somebody whose beyond yourself, 00:08:14.79\00:08:17.11 and saying, "Lord, I need your help. " 00:08:17.12\00:08:18.49 Just the peace of mind, and peace has a lot 00:08:18.52\00:08:21.42 to do with our health can do unbelievable 00:08:21.45\00:08:24.53 advantages to our health. 00:08:24.56\00:08:25.75 And so, the first 2 things, sunlight and trusting 00:08:25.76\00:08:31.30 in the Lord, are 2 very important laws of health 00:08:31.33\00:08:34.05 And I think you've got a couple of others, Dr. Thrash. 00:08:34.08\00:08:36.07 Yes, in fact, I've got a number of more. 00:08:36.10\00:08:38.30 But I would like to start right away by talking about EXERCISE. 00:08:38.33\00:08:42.51 The subject of exercise is such an important one that 00:08:42.52\00:08:46.94 if we know about exercise and we DO exercise, 00:08:46.97\00:08:50.79 then this can help us to cover a lot of other 00:08:50.82\00:08:56.85 broken health laws. 00:08:56.88\00:08:59.07 Just the fact that we exercise, 00:08:59.10\00:09:01.07 strengthens us in a number of ways. 00:09:01.11\00:09:03.25 And besides that, exercise is enjoyable... 00:09:03.29\00:09:08.42 that is if we are accustomed to doing exercise. 00:09:08.45\00:09:11.23 Now, if we are normally a couch potato, 00:09:11.26\00:09:13.78 it's going to be difficult for us to get out of doors, 00:09:13.81\00:09:16.78 and move around. 00:09:16.81\00:09:18.30 But if we are accustomed to moving, 00:09:18.33\00:09:20.51 then to get up and get out is going to be 00:09:20.52\00:09:23.86 something that makes us feel good. 00:09:23.89\00:09:26.10 And just to feel good even when we are sick, 00:09:26.13\00:09:29.79 or when we have been sick... 00:09:29.82\00:09:31.56 if we begin to move around, 00:09:31.59\00:09:33.60 we will just naturally feel a lot better. 00:09:33.63\00:09:35.89 And then, the fact that the immune system goes up 00:09:35.90\00:09:39.68 with exercise, this is something that be actually measured. 00:09:39.71\00:09:44.37 So that we can have people to do various kinds of exercise 00:09:44.40\00:09:48.07 We can check the number of T cells they have, 00:09:48.10\00:09:50.42 the number of killer cells that they have, 00:09:50.45\00:09:53.14 and these go UP with the amount of exercise that we do! 00:09:53.17\00:09:57.06 And just as with sunshine, getting exercise will make 00:09:57.09\00:10:02.25 the cellular portions of the immune system 00:10:02.28\00:10:04.95 much more active. 00:10:04.98\00:10:06.55 They move more rapidly. 00:10:06.58\00:10:09.30 They also become more hungry. 00:10:09.33\00:10:11.85 So that when they see a germ, they go there, 00:10:11.88\00:10:14.44 and they take the germ, and destroy the germ. 00:10:14.47\00:10:18.01 So to assist the immune system in this way, can be very helpful 00:10:18.04\00:10:22.89 to you in warding off disease, not only of the body, 00:10:22.92\00:10:26.96 but also of the mind. 00:10:26.99\00:10:29.00 The immune system, of course, has to do with such things as 00:10:29.03\00:10:32.75 depression, and warding that off, or even schizophrenia 00:10:32.78\00:10:38.32 and the various serious forms of mental illness 00:10:38.35\00:10:42.07 because of the fact that people with these kinds of illnesses 00:10:42.10\00:10:46.80 don't live as long as those who do not have those illnesses 00:10:46.83\00:10:50.41 unless they work at these natural laws of health 00:10:50.44\00:10:55.76 in a very serious and determined way. 00:10:55.79\00:11:00.11 Now exercise can be too much so that we can overdo 00:11:00.14\00:11:04.21 the matter, and it's an interesting thing that when we 00:11:04.24\00:11:07.32 overdo exercise, we actually reduce the functioning 00:11:07.35\00:11:10.43 of the immune system. 00:11:10.46\00:11:11.77 So we want to be careful about that. 00:11:11.80\00:11:13.76 As to how often we should exercise, 00:11:13.79\00:11:18.00 I can give you a quote that "some portion of every day 00:11:18.03\00:11:21.35 be spent in outdoor exercise. " 00:11:21.38\00:11:24.35 And having the exercise out of doors, is more favorable 00:11:24.38\00:11:27.95 than having the same amount of exercise, 00:11:27.98\00:11:30.41 and the same quality of exercise indoors. 00:11:30.44\00:11:34.34 Now, in addition to exercise, there is another aspect 00:11:34.37\00:11:39.16 of this matter of prevention of disease, and that is water. 00:11:39.19\00:11:44.58 So frequently, people get sick because 00:11:44.61\00:11:47.56 they don't drink enough water. 00:11:47.59\00:11:49.01 One of the simple things that people get is 00:11:49.04\00:11:52.48 they simply don't feel strong. 00:11:52.51\00:11:54.16 They feel tired, or they have lassitude that 00:11:54.19\00:11:57.64 just saps their energy, and because of this, 00:11:57.67\00:12:00.87 they want to stay indoors. 00:12:00.90\00:12:02.57 They want to just read, or do some kind of indoor game, 00:12:02.60\00:12:09.31 or just sit and shell beans, or whatever they can do 00:12:09.34\00:12:13.78 inside... rather than getting up and MOVING. 00:12:13.81\00:12:17.15 And when they move, they have so many good benefits, 00:12:17.16\00:12:21.90 that water plays right into this, that the amount of water 00:12:21.93\00:12:28.08 that we take gets us over many an illness 00:12:28.11\00:12:32.04 that we otherwise would have. 00:12:32.08\00:12:33.61 Now WATER, is the most abundant element on this planet 00:12:33.64\00:12:40.77 apart from air, and has been made by a 00:12:40.80\00:12:44.74 loving and all-wise Designer to be the universal solvent 00:12:44.75\00:12:49.05 And while it won't dissolve everything, 00:12:49.08\00:12:51.08 it certainly does dissolve a lot of things, 00:12:51.11\00:12:53.66 and most of those things that are inside the body, 00:12:53.69\00:12:56.14 it does dissolve those. 00:12:56.17\00:12:58.04 It acts as a vehicle for the transport of quite a lot 00:12:58.07\00:13:02.33 of wastes and raw products and nutrients 00:13:02.36\00:13:08.77 that come into the body. 00:13:08.80\00:13:09.86 It also is a vehicle for the transport of oxygen 00:13:09.89\00:13:12.71 and other forms of gases that we require 00:13:12.74\00:13:17.22 so much in the human body. 00:13:17.25\00:13:19.21 Wastes are also carried on this vehicle... 00:13:19.24\00:13:24.09 the vehicle of water, 00:13:24.12\00:13:25.36 and the various organs of the body... including the skin, 00:13:25.39\00:13:31.23 are kept healthy, the joints are kept mobile, 00:13:31.26\00:13:35.35 and strong, and gliding nicely because of plenty of water. 00:13:35.38\00:13:40.80 So use this universal solvent to good advantage. 00:13:40.83\00:13:45.63 And now, we have another one, and that is AIR. 00:13:45.66\00:13:50.82 Air is a precious boon of heaven! 00:13:50.85\00:13:53.11 And, Dr. Miller, what can you tell us about air? 00:13:53.14\00:13:56.22 You know, we can be very thankful if we live in an area 00:13:56.23\00:13:59.17 where we do have good air. 00:13:59.20\00:14:00.40 I've been in countries like Tokyo, Japan... 00:14:00.43\00:14:02.81 Many times the policeman will have stations they can go to 00:14:02.84\00:14:06.11 and put on a mask and breathe oxygen because there's 00:14:06.14\00:14:09.24 just not that much around because of all the 00:14:09.27\00:14:11.21 pollutions and the exhaust that surround them all the time. 00:14:11.24\00:14:15.41 But air is an extremely beneficial thing that 00:14:15.42\00:14:19.32 God has given to us... 00:14:19.35\00:14:20.38 And He has given it to us in exceeding abundance. 00:14:20.41\00:14:23.76 Now, thinking about air, when and where are you 00:14:23.79\00:14:28.77 when it just feels the best... as far as the air around you. 00:14:28.80\00:14:31.54 Let me put this a different way... 00:14:31.55\00:14:34.25 How do you feel when you go to the beach 00:14:34.28\00:14:37.05 when there are waves coming in? 00:14:37.08\00:14:38.48 Or how do you feel when you are near a waterfall? 00:14:38.51\00:14:41.82 Or, how does it feel to walk outside after a storm? 00:14:41.85\00:14:44.95 All of these things are doing something very special 00:14:44.98\00:14:48.28 to the air... they are releasing negative air ions 00:14:48.31\00:14:52.01 Now, an ion is basically a molecule that has either 00:14:52.04\00:14:55.70 gained or lost its electronic charge. 00:14:55.73\00:14:58.72 ...And these things are extremely 00:14:58.75\00:15:02.24 sedating and soothing to the body... 00:15:02.27\00:15:04.73 And so what we need to do is get plenty of 00:15:04.76\00:15:07.26 negative air ions. 00:15:07.29\00:15:08.56 Now I've already mentioned where you can get those. 00:15:08.59\00:15:10.39 Some of the places... around moving water, 00:15:10.42\00:15:12.86 where there are rapids, waterfall, ocean surf. 00:15:12.89\00:15:17.30 You can get them after a storm. 00:15:17.33\00:15:19.85 Have you ever smelled the air after a storm? 00:15:19.88\00:15:22.30 It just smells cleaner... it's because it's full of 00:15:22.33\00:15:24.59 negative air ions. 00:15:24.62\00:15:26.04 You can get it amongst evergreen trees. 00:15:26.07\00:15:29.44 I once heard an inspired person say that there is 00:15:29.47\00:15:33.02 healing in the balsam and in the pine... 00:15:33.05\00:15:36.12 just breathing the air in this area. 00:15:36.15\00:15:39.76 There's also negative air ions in natural settings... 00:15:39.79\00:15:45.18 Out in the forest, out in the woods, 00:15:45.21\00:15:46.83 up in the mountains... you're going to find 00:15:46.86\00:15:48.30 your negative air ions. 00:15:48.31\00:15:49.88 But on the same turn, there are things that destroy 00:15:49.89\00:15:52.73 these negative air ions. 00:15:52.76\00:15:54.11 One, is recirculated air. 00:15:54.14\00:15:55.59 We live in houses and work in buildings now that have 00:15:55.62\00:15:59.26 no windows that will open... 00:15:59.29\00:16:00.74 Everything is recirculated... they are recirculating 00:16:00.77\00:16:03.71 positive air ions which cause depression, 00:16:03.74\00:16:06.90 which causes mood swings, which causes headaches, 00:16:06.93\00:16:09.86 and MANY other problems... and so recirculated air. 00:16:09.89\00:16:13.25 Pollution decreases negative air and adds positive air ions. 00:16:13.28\00:16:18.99 Cigarettes smoke will do the same thing. 00:16:19.02\00:16:22.46 So what we need to do is get out into nature. 00:16:22.49\00:16:25.75 Get away from the cities, get out into the country, 00:16:25.78\00:16:28.36 and breathe the good, fresh air. 00:16:28.39\00:16:30.31 Now, along with the air... all right, I want to add 00:16:30.32\00:16:34.39 one last thing to the air part. 00:16:34.40\00:16:36.09 At nighttime, no matter how cold it is outside, 00:16:36.12\00:16:40.38 you should always have fresh air in your bedroom. 00:16:40.41\00:16:44.05 Turn down the heat, pile on the covers, 00:16:44.06\00:16:47.66 open up the window. 00:16:47.69\00:16:48.68 Now we're not talking about opening it all the way, 00:16:48.71\00:16:50.61 open it just enough to get enough air circulating 00:16:50.64\00:16:53.98 in your room; otherwise, you're going to wake up, 00:16:54.01\00:16:56.17 feeling a little bit drugged, perhaps a little bit grouchy, 00:16:56.20\00:16:59.02 a lot of problems come down the pike because we have not gotten 00:16:59.05\00:17:02.82 adequate amounts of air at nighttime when we are sleeping. 00:17:02.83\00:17:06.69 Now, in saying that, at nighttime besides sleeping, 00:17:06.73\00:17:10.57 we're doing something else. 00:17:10.60\00:17:11.64 We're always sweating... that's how we stay cool. 00:17:11.67\00:17:15.09 And so, as we sweat, we let off that moisture, 00:17:15.13\00:17:18.26 and so, going back to the sunshine thing, 00:17:18.29\00:17:20.62 every once in a while when you get a nice, 00:17:20.65\00:17:22.54 sunny, low-humidity day, take your mattress outside 00:17:22.57\00:17:25.84 and get it aired out. 00:17:25.87\00:17:27.11 You're going to find that you're going to sleep 00:17:27.14\00:17:28.44 a whole lot better after that experience. 00:17:28.47\00:17:30.28 There's another part of the "A" that we're looking at... 00:17:30.31\00:17:33.49 besides air... It is ATTITUDE. 00:17:33.52\00:17:35.54 Our attitude has a lot to do with how we feel. 00:17:35.57\00:17:39.02 There was a recent study done by Kansas State University 00:17:39.05\00:17:42.10 that basically showed that people who are always grouchy 00:17:42.13\00:17:45.85 get sick more, and are sick longer. 00:17:45.88\00:17:48.72 The Bible says, "A merry heart does good like a medicine. " 00:17:48.75\00:17:53.47 Find something to be thankful for. 00:17:53.50\00:17:55.53 I learned an extremely good principle some years ago. 00:17:55.56\00:17:58.72 It's called "the law of reciprocal influence. " 00:17:58.75\00:18:01.21 Basically, biblically, it says... 00:18:01.24\00:18:02.88 "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. " 00:18:02.91\00:18:05.40 My recommendation is, when you wake up grouchy, 00:18:05.43\00:18:08.22 here's what you do, you sing praises to the Lord. 00:18:08.23\00:18:10.86 Sing a hymn, sing a happy song, and you're going to find 00:18:10.89\00:18:13.66 that your mood starts to rise. 00:18:13.69\00:18:15.44 But it's people who are ALWAYS ANGRY who are ALWAYS SICK 00:18:15.47\00:18:19.91 are going to be the ones that are always grouchy, 00:18:19.94\00:18:23.72 and discontented with life. BE HAPPY! 00:18:23.75\00:18:26.83 And if you're going to be happy, 00:18:26.84\00:18:28.15 you're also going to find yourself being well. 00:18:28.18\00:18:30.40 There's a lot to do about attitude with 00:18:30.43\00:18:31.84 good health, Dr. Thrash. ... Yes there is! 00:18:31.88\00:18:33.63 And in addition to attitude... 00:18:33.67\00:18:37.15 we could say that REST... rest from a number of things 00:18:37.18\00:18:39.91 It's not just rest from labor, but it's also rest from noise. 00:18:39.94\00:18:43.98 It's rest from food sometimes. 00:18:44.01\00:18:46.75 You take a small rest from food, and that gives you 00:18:46.78\00:18:51.01 a GOOD overall rest. 00:18:51.04\00:18:54.08 If you turn off a whirring machine of some kind, 00:18:54.11\00:18:57.12 the relief that you get, is a kind of rest, 00:18:57.15\00:19:00.75 and so that can be very helpful to you. 00:19:00.79\00:19:03.38 We need, sometimes, a rest from people... 00:19:03.42\00:19:05.98 so that we can commune with God. 00:19:06.01\00:19:08.14 And don't forget... that you have essentially 00:19:08.17\00:19:11.64 a person in your automobile in the form of the radio 00:19:11.67\00:19:15.41 Some people get in the car, turn the ignition, 00:19:15.44\00:19:18.86 and the radio comes on... 00:19:18.89\00:19:20.44 so that they're never really alone. 00:19:20.47\00:19:22.10 And that time when they could be in their vehicle 00:19:22.13\00:19:25.45 communing with God, they lose, because the radio is on, 00:19:25.46\00:19:29.37 and that's a constant presence of someone else with them. 00:19:29.40\00:19:34.02 Now, rest can be a rest from our activities, 00:19:34.03\00:19:39.67 our secular activities once a week, 00:19:39.70\00:19:41.87 so that we have a Sabbath rest. 00:19:41.90\00:19:43.78 What an important time for a human being to take 00:19:43.81\00:19:47.39 that rest from all secular activities and live in a 00:19:47.40\00:19:51.72 holy atmosphere for a whole day. 00:19:51.75\00:19:54.15 What a privilege that is. 00:19:54.18\00:19:55.88 Now as we are going through these things, 00:19:55.89\00:19:58.87 I am beginning to recognize that you have arranged 00:19:58.90\00:20:04.08 these, Dr. Miller, in such a way that these things that we're 00:20:04.11\00:20:08.55 talking about spell a word. Yes, they do. 00:20:08.58\00:20:12.32 And I'm delighted to see that that it is. 00:20:12.35\00:20:15.47 Would you like to show what we've got here. Okay. 00:20:15.50\00:20:17.74 We have Sunshine, Trusting in the Lord, Exercise, Water, 00:20:17.77\00:20:26.75 Air and Attitude, Rest... that's as far as we've 00:20:26.78\00:20:32.32 gotten so far... let's keep going... 00:20:32.35\00:20:34.15 Diet and Dress... a lot of things to do with diet and dress 00:20:34.18\00:20:38.19 Self-Control, Hygiene or Cleanliness, and Herbs, 00:20:38.22\00:20:45.95 Innocence or a Clear Conscience, and then the last one 00:20:45.98\00:20:51.28 would be Purity of Life... and don't we need more 00:20:51.31\00:20:54.22 of that in this world that we're living in... Dr. Thrash 00:20:54.25\00:20:56.84 So we have the acronym, "STEWARDSHIP" 00:20:56.87\00:20:59.43 God has given us bodies. 00:20:59.46\00:21:00.67 He says, "You're stewards. " 00:21:00.70\00:21:02.31 Paul says, in Romans 12:1, "Present your bodies a LIVING 00:21:02.34\00:21:05.35 sacrifice," and we're stewards over this body. 00:21:05.38\00:21:07.82 Oh yes, and a part of that is DIET, 00:21:07.85\00:21:11.09 and you want to put the "D" in now. 00:21:11.12\00:21:15.60 Diet is a topic that we need to, very clearly, understand. 00:21:15.63\00:21:22.83 I'm going to be very short with the diet part. 00:21:22.86\00:21:25.49 3ABN talks a lot about diets, 00:21:25.52\00:21:28.85 and we have cooking schools and everything else. 00:21:28.88\00:21:30.87 I want to read you one case history. 00:21:30.90\00:21:33.38 You can do a search on the internet, and look up a man 00:21:33.41\00:21:37.20 by the name of Thomas Parr. 00:21:37.23\00:21:39.32 He was born in 1483. 00:21:39.35\00:21:43.25 He was born to a farmer there in England, 00:21:43.28\00:21:45.91 and he sort of tooled along... 00:21:45.94\00:21:48.65 went out as a tradesman some time during that time. 00:21:48.68\00:21:52.44 In the year 1563, he got married for the first time. 00:21:52.47\00:21:57.22 He was 80 years old. 00:21:57.25\00:21:58.96 He fathered 2 children. 00:21:58.97\00:22:00.22 Time went on, his first wife 00:22:00.25\00:22:02.50 having died by the time he was 120... 00:22:02.53\00:22:04.21 he married the second time, had another child. 00:22:04.24\00:22:07.72 He kept on going and he was doing great living on a very 00:22:07.75\00:22:11.42 simple abstemious diet. 00:22:11.45\00:22:13.08 He had a very simple diet out there on the farm. 00:22:13.11\00:22:16.52 Working on the farm, he was still working his fields 00:22:16.55\00:22:19.14 when he was in his 130s and 140s. 00:22:19.17\00:22:21.76 But at 153 years of age, he was discovered by the earl that 00:22:21.79\00:22:25.79 sort of was over the land on which he lived. 00:22:25.82\00:22:28.52 And he didn't know this guy was living there... 00:22:28.55\00:22:30.59 He said, "Wow! Wait until the king sees this man!" 00:22:30.62\00:22:33.23 And so he took Thomas Parr to the king's palace 00:22:33.26\00:22:38.17 there in London, and he said, "I want you to meet this man" 00:22:38.20\00:22:41.66 Can you imagine the stories this guy would tell? 00:22:41.67\00:22:43.38 You see, the king on the throne at that time, 00:22:43.41\00:22:45.92 was the 10th monarch since Thomas had been born. 00:22:45.95\00:22:49.69 So 10 monarchs had passed. 00:22:49.72\00:22:51.62 The guy's mind was completely intact... he was great stories. 00:22:51.65\00:22:56.39 They enjoyed him so much... that night the king said, 00:22:56.42\00:23:00.40 "Look, come and live in the castle with me... 00:23:00.43\00:23:03.35 And eat at my table, and just live a good life 00:23:03.38\00:23:06.86 from now on out. " And the guy said, "Good idea. " 00:23:06.89\00:23:08.95 He did. Two weeks later, he was dead. 00:23:08.98\00:23:11.65 Upon autopsy, they found his internal organs to be 00:23:11.68\00:23:15.76 organs of a young man, except for one problem, 00:23:15.79\00:23:18.55 they were extremely inflamed. 00:23:18.58\00:23:20.49 It was the diet. 00:23:20.52\00:23:21.63 The inflammatory diet of the rich foods and the rich drinks 00:23:21.66\00:23:25.31 that put the man who, 153 years, that could not kill 00:23:25.34\00:23:28.92 put him in the grave after 2 short weeks' diet. 00:23:28.95\00:23:31.88 Dr. Thrash, the foods that we eat are extremely important! 00:23:31.89\00:23:34.72 They're very inflammatory that's for certain. 00:23:34.75\00:23:37.19 Then also, in "D" is the matter of DRESS. 00:23:37.22\00:23:41.74 Dress can be healthful, or unhealthful. 00:23:41.75\00:23:44.87 One of the ways that it's unhealthful, 00:23:44.90\00:23:47.04 is that it's too tight. 00:23:47.07\00:23:48.61 It can be too tight in the waist, or around the knees, 00:23:48.64\00:23:52.19 around the ankles, around the wrists, 00:23:52.22\00:23:54.65 around the upper arms, anywhere that a garment 00:23:54.66\00:23:58.85 is so tight that it leaves a red streak when the 00:23:58.88\00:24:02.07 garment is removed, that is, of course, too tight. 00:24:02.10\00:24:05.24 Then it can be inadequate for proper warmth. 00:24:05.25\00:24:08.61 A lot of people, for one reason or other, 00:24:08.64\00:24:12.09 expose their extremities, and that leads to a reduction 00:24:12.12\00:24:16.52 in the efficiency of the immune system. 00:24:16.53\00:24:19.01 And so with these things... 00:24:19.04\00:24:21.55 Oh, there's one other thing that you need to know 00:24:21.58\00:24:23.58 and that's MODESTY. 00:24:23.59\00:24:25.11 Modest dress relieves of anxiety and a sense of 00:24:25.14\00:24:29.88 inhibition... that a person does not have when one has 00:24:29.91\00:24:35.06 completely modest dress. 00:24:35.09\00:24:36.60 So I recommend these things for the "D" part. 00:24:36.61\00:24:39.90 And now let's go to self-control... Dr. Miller 00:24:39.93\00:24:44.28 SELF-CONTROL... You know, normally when we talk about 00:24:44.29\00:24:47.16 self-control, we talk about don't smoke, don't drink, 00:24:47.19\00:24:49.70 and don't take drugs, and these are extremely important. 00:24:49.73\00:24:52.15 But there are other areas of our life where we need 00:24:52.18\00:24:54.37 self-control. 00:24:54.40\00:24:55.53 I would say, probably one of the runaway problems 00:24:55.56\00:24:58.50 with us in today's especially Western world, 00:24:58.53\00:25:01.42 is something as simple as overeating, 00:25:01.43\00:25:03.68 or eating too many things at a meal. 00:25:03.71\00:25:05.62 We need to be under control in ALL that we do. 00:25:05.65\00:25:08.99 You know, it's amazing... you see somebody 00:25:09.02\00:25:11.90 training for the Olympics, and they train diligently... 00:25:11.93\00:25:15.27 They've got to the point where they can slow their 00:25:15.30\00:25:17.33 pulse rate; they can slow their respiration down 00:25:17.36\00:25:20.39 on command, because they want to win that little piece of gold 00:25:20.42\00:25:24.61 And here we are, with streets of gold in which to gain 00:25:24.64\00:25:28.13 We need to do the same type of training. 00:25:28.16\00:25:30.47 Paul says, "I keep my body under," 00:25:30.50\00:25:33.32 under control, under self-control that everything 00:25:33.35\00:25:37.15 that we do might be to the glory of God. 00:25:37.18\00:25:39.27 As a matter of fact, the Bible says that, 00:25:39.30\00:25:40.44 "Whatsoever you eat, whatsoever you drink, 00:25:40.47\00:25:43.29 whatsoever you do, do ALL to the glory of God. " 00:25:43.32\00:25:46.80 Self-control... extremely important. 00:25:46.83\00:25:48.35 And then, a part of the "H" is HERBS. 00:25:48.38\00:25:53.69 Herbs are provided by a Loving Creator, 00:25:53.72\00:25:56.87 and if we learn about the herbs, there are many of them 00:25:56.90\00:26:00.22 that can help us to get over disease without taking 00:26:00.25\00:26:04.97 any kind of serious life-threatening drug. 00:26:05.00\00:26:10.47 And now we have 2 more things... 00:26:10.50\00:26:13.51 Dr. Miller, do you want to tell us about 2 more things? 00:26:13.54\00:26:16.81 Very quickly, talk about HYGEINE. 00:26:16.84\00:26:19.45 Quickly, I'll just give you another case history. 00:26:19.48\00:26:21.90 A doctor from Hungry named, "Semmelweis" 00:26:21.93\00:26:24.65 ...A good friend cut his finger while doing an autopsy 00:26:24.68\00:26:28.65 and he died of the same diseases killing the women 00:26:28.68\00:26:31.68 in the hospitals and he thought... 00:26:31.71\00:26:33.22 "Hmmm, I think what the problem is... we're transferring 00:26:33.25\00:26:36.13 the diseases from the corpses 00:26:36.16\00:26:37.64 to the women that we're delivering. " 00:26:37.67\00:26:39.92 So he came up with a very simple solution! 00:26:39.95\00:26:42.20 "Why don't we wash our hands between patients. " 00:26:42.23\00:26:45.86 And as soon as he did, death rates fell. 00:26:45.89\00:26:48.57 As a matter of fact, the midwife hospital near them 00:26:48.58\00:26:51.75 had no where near the death rate that the regular hospital 00:26:51.78\00:26:55.46 did... who went through these things. 00:26:55.49\00:26:57.05 The other one is things like "INNOCENCE. " 00:26:57.08\00:26:59.19 The clear conscience. 00:26:59.22\00:27:01.27 You know, when we feel guilt, we are hurting our 00:27:01.30\00:27:04.40 immune system, so we need to make sure we have a 00:27:04.43\00:27:06.64 conscience, the Bible says, "Void of offence. " 00:27:06.67\00:27:09.58 And the last one is, "PURITY OF LIFE " 00:27:09.61\00:27:12.02 We need to look at things that will give us pure thoughts. 00:27:12.03\00:27:14.92 Listen to things that will give us pure thoughts. 00:27:14.93\00:27:16.80 And quite frankly, we are surrounded in a world 00:27:16.83\00:27:19.43 that is steeped in impurity. 00:27:19.44\00:27:22.04 God is looking for a pure people, 00:27:22.05\00:27:23.86 a special people in these last days. 00:27:23.87\00:27:25.82 And as we do these laws of health, 00:27:25.85\00:27:29.01 God's 14 Laws of Health, 00:27:29.02\00:27:31.00 we're going to find that we're far better able 00:27:31.03\00:27:33.19 to help our fellow man, help ourselves, 00:27:33.22\00:27:36.33 and to give glory to God! 00:27:36.36\00:27:38.76 Now all of these 14 Laws of Health are very 00:27:38.79\00:27:42.78 clearly defined by nature, and by reason. 00:27:42.81\00:27:45.52 So we hope that you have studied these very carefully 00:27:45.53\00:27:48.17 that you might prevent disease, and then 00:27:48.20\00:27:50.69 not have to worry so much about learning how 00:27:50.70\00:27:53.16 to treat disease once it has occurred. 00:27:53.20\00:27:55.19
