Physicians should be teachers. 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.12 In fact, that's what the word means. 00:00:04.15\00:00:05.88 "Doctor" means a teacher. 00:00:05.91\00:00:08.24 And I'm very happy that I can be both a doctor and a teacher. 00:00:08.25\00:00:12.22 It's such a privilege to teach a person how to take care of 00:00:12.25\00:00:16.20 this most marvelous of ALL machinery... the human body. 00:00:16.23\00:00:20.02 So I hope you will stay with us, and I hope you will 00:00:20.05\00:00:22.48 learn something. 00:00:22.49\00:00:23.49 Welcome to "Help Yourself to Health" 00:00:43.31\00:00:45.74 with Dr. Agatha Thrash of Uchee Pines Institute 00:00:45.77\00:00:49.15 And now, here's your host, Dr. Thrash 00:00:49.18\00:00:53.75 Now it's true that the physician should be a teacher, 00:00:53.78\00:00:57.28 but it's also true that the patient should be a learner! 00:00:57.31\00:01:01.67 And it's the responsibility of the patient to learn how 00:01:01.70\00:01:05.76 to take care of this body temple. 00:01:05.79\00:01:07.68 It's a most MARVELOUS mechanism. 00:01:07.71\00:01:10.06 The person will never have about his self, about his home 00:01:10.09\00:01:13.87 all the equipment that he has, vehicles, 00:01:13.90\00:01:18.21 motorized equipment, computers, whatever the person might have 00:01:18.24\00:01:22.33 NOTHING even approaches the complexity of the human body. 00:01:22.36\00:01:28.70 Now as we study the human body, we come to know 00:01:28.73\00:01:31.11 about some of the marvels of the human body. 00:01:31.14\00:01:34.37 It's made up of millions of small units, 00:01:34.40\00:01:38.75 each of which is a miracle! 00:01:38.79\00:01:40.57 Sometimes I tell my evolutionists friends 00:01:40.60\00:01:44.43 that they don't have alveoli in their lungs, 00:01:44.46\00:01:48.00 or they don't have nephrons in their kidneys, 00:01:48.03\00:01:50.74 or they don't even have teeth... 00:01:50.77\00:01:53.43 because in my estimation, it would have taken 00:01:53.44\00:01:55.67 another 25 billion years just to work out teeth 00:01:55.70\00:02:00.34 And the evolutionists' estimate isn't but about 00:02:00.37\00:02:05.15 4.5 billion that this earth has been in existence. 00:02:05.18\00:02:09.08 So I know they couldn't possibly have those 00:02:09.09\00:02:11.55 precious things of equipment that our Creator made for us. 00:02:11.58\00:02:15.49 And turned it out before He ever put us in charge 00:02:15.52\00:02:18.80 of the human body. 00:02:18.83\00:02:20.47 Let's just study the human tooth for a moment. 00:02:20.50\00:02:22.95 The tooth is not just a solid bridge of bone 00:02:22.98\00:02:27.97 across the upper and the lower parts of the jaws, 00:02:28.00\00:02:30.72 but are built of individual units. 00:02:30.75\00:02:34.97 So that if something happens to one, you've still got 00:02:35.00\00:02:38.73 maybe 31 left. 00:02:38.76\00:02:40.42 And, if something happens to another, 00:02:40.45\00:02:42.70 you've still got 30 left... 00:02:42.73\00:02:44.38 And that's plenty adequate to do one's chewing. 00:02:44.41\00:02:47.26 A lot of people lose their wisdom teeth early in life 00:02:47.29\00:02:50.75 because they don't come in in the correct place, 00:02:50.78\00:02:54.57 or they point in a wrong direction. 00:02:54.60\00:02:57.21 Sometimes, a wisdom tooth will point at the tooth 00:02:57.24\00:03:00.26 that's right next to it, and cause an erosion 00:03:00.29\00:03:03.37 in that tooth which eventually makes a cavity, 00:03:03.40\00:03:07.68 which then forms an abscess, and the person loses 2 teeth; 00:03:07.71\00:03:13.32 a wisdom tooth, and the tooth next to it. 00:03:13.35\00:03:16.02 So, we lose 4 teeth immediately, but we still have enough to 00:03:16.05\00:03:21.44 do plenty of chewing... that's not a problem! 00:03:21.47\00:03:24.46 But as we go through life, sometimes people lose 00:03:24.49\00:03:28.22 another tooth here, and another tooth there 00:03:28.23\00:03:30.85 So finally they're just snaggletoothed 00:03:30.88\00:03:33.21 and don't have enough teeth left to be able to chew properly 00:03:33.24\00:03:38.46 The amount of chewing that we do, to some degree, 00:03:38.47\00:03:42.71 determines how long we're going to live. 00:03:42.74\00:03:44.90 And, therefore, when we have a toothache, 00:03:44.93\00:03:47.55 immediately, we are concerned. 00:03:47.58\00:03:49.66 Am I going to lose that tooth that I have the toothache in? 00:03:49.69\00:03:53.59 So let's talk just a little bit how you can understand 00:03:53.62\00:03:57.09 about a toothache. 00:03:57.12\00:03:58.45 When a toothache comes, it's often a sudden pain 00:03:58.48\00:04:02.85 in the tooth, or it may, at times, develop 00:04:02.88\00:04:06.95 over a number of days, or even weeks, 00:04:06.98\00:04:09.00 so that you feel a little tenderness in the tooth, 00:04:09.03\00:04:11.20 or when you drink something that's cold, a tooth 00:04:11.23\00:04:16.18 or more than one tooth hurts... 00:04:16.21\00:04:19.20 Or when you eat something sweet, that tooth hurts. 00:04:19.23\00:04:23.86 If cold and sweets are the things that make the tooth 00:04:23.89\00:04:29.19 have pain, then it's probably just a carious tooth 00:04:29.22\00:04:33.46 that just requires that you get a filling, or a replacement 00:04:33.49\00:04:37.48 of an existing filling. 00:04:37.51\00:04:39.14 Now if you understand that about sweet and cold, 00:04:39.17\00:04:44.87 and the superficiality of that kind of pain, 00:04:44.90\00:04:49.60 then you're prepared to understand what kind of 00:04:49.63\00:04:52.58 infection or involvement of the tooth 00:04:52.61\00:04:56.58 could involve the pulp itself. 00:04:56.61\00:04:59.23 Now the pulp is the place where the nerve is located 00:04:59.26\00:05:02.78 and if it's heat that causes your pain, 00:05:02.79\00:05:07.17 then the pulp is probably involved with it 00:05:07.20\00:05:11.24 and you can make a diagnosis of a more serious 00:05:11.25\00:05:14.10 tooth involvement. 00:05:14.13\00:05:15.44 Such a tooth is going to require specialized care from a dentist 00:05:15.47\00:05:20.43 most of the time. 00:05:20.46\00:05:21.55 But, there are some things that you can do 00:05:21.58\00:05:24.39 even for a bombed-out tooth that's very 00:05:24.42\00:05:28.01 carious but does not yet involve the pulp 00:05:28.04\00:05:32.00 Such a tooth, if you change the environment 00:05:32.03\00:05:34.70 of the mouth, and make it so that the conditions 00:05:34.71\00:05:38.61 that encourage cavities... that those conditions 00:05:38.64\00:05:43.00 have gone, then it's very likely that you could just 00:05:43.01\00:05:46.51 keep that bombed-out tooth... 00:05:46.54\00:05:48.73 that very serious affection of a tooth 00:05:48.76\00:05:53.58 that results in a definite cavity. 00:05:53.61\00:05:56.81 If you take care of it, there are dentists who will 00:05:56.84\00:06:00.29 tell you that you can make a scar on that tooth 00:06:00.32\00:06:05.20 and refinish that bombed-out area. 00:06:05.21\00:06:09.31 Now it's not nice, white enamel as you had in the beginning. 00:06:09.34\00:06:12.09 It will look very dark, in fact, almost black, 00:06:12.81\00:06:15.37 but it will be a very hard repair... a hard scar 00:06:15.38\00:06:20.23 on that tooth and that's very helpful to know. 00:06:20.26\00:06:22.80 But of course, the best thing is to get it filled, 00:06:22.83\00:06:26.96 and have a complete restoration of the tooth. 00:06:26.99\00:06:29.74 Let's say you wake up in the middle of the night, 00:06:29.77\00:06:32.77 and you have a SERIOUS toothache... 00:06:32.80\00:06:34.88 Is there anything that you can do immediately 00:06:34.91\00:06:37.35 so that you don't have to pay the extra fee 00:06:37.38\00:06:39.42 of calling a dentist out of bed at night to attend your tooth? 00:06:39.45\00:06:42.79 There are a number of things... 00:06:43.39\00:06:44.65 and most of them are quite effective. 00:06:44.69\00:06:46.63 The first thing to do is to make a little charcoal compress 00:06:46.67\00:06:51.00 Get a little piece of paper towel, maybe a square 00:06:51.03\00:06:53.51 about an inch or 2 inches square, 00:06:53.52\00:06:56.39 hold it in the hand, and put some charcoal paste right there. 00:06:56.42\00:07:00.07 You'll put that on a spoon then, shift it so that it goes onto 00:07:00.10\00:07:03.76 a spoon... then you can just maneuver it to the place 00:07:03.77\00:07:07.27 where you have the painful tooth, and bite down 00:07:07.30\00:07:10.63 on it... hold the charcoal paste in place 00:07:10.66\00:07:12.90 And often with a few minutes, the toothache has gone away. 00:07:12.93\00:07:17.39 Another thing that you can use is clove oil. 00:07:17.42\00:07:21.31 Clove oil smells very nice, and if you put a little 00:07:21.34\00:07:25.08 on a Q-tip, or on a toothpick, and just put it right up 00:07:25.11\00:07:29.36 next to the tooth, and on the gum, around the tooth, 00:07:29.39\00:07:32.19 and in-between the tooth... 00:07:32.22\00:07:34.62 you can get a very good relief of pain right away. 00:07:34.65\00:07:38.96 Now, an abscess can occur in a tooth, and in that case 00:07:38.99\00:07:44.80 the tooth will feel as if it's about an inch longer 00:07:44.81\00:07:47.96 than all the other teeth in your mouth, 00:07:47.99\00:07:51.13 and that's one of the diagnostic clues that you can have 00:07:51.16\00:07:55.25 that you've got an abscess of a tooth. 00:07:55.28\00:07:57.81 Also, if you just press on the area where the tooth is, 00:07:57.84\00:08:01.75 that you think might be abscessed, 00:08:01.78\00:08:03.26 and if it's very painful, then that's probably 00:08:03.29\00:08:07.05 an abscessed tooth. 00:08:07.08\00:08:08.83 If you tap on the tooth, and that gives you pain, 00:08:08.86\00:08:11.89 that's probably an abscessed tooth. 00:08:11.92\00:08:13.70 But let's say you can tap on all the teeth on that side, 00:08:13.73\00:08:17.16 that's probably not an abscessed tooth... 00:08:17.19\00:08:19.25 that's probably a maxillary sinusitis up here in the 00:08:19.28\00:08:23.59 maxillary sinuses. 00:08:23.62\00:08:25.57 And so, you don't have to go to the dentist for that 00:08:25.60\00:08:28.01 most of the time, you just treat the sinusitis. 00:08:28.04\00:08:30.47 And so applying heat, and then alternating with cold 00:08:30.50\00:08:34.91 every 3 minutes or so, that can be very helpful. 00:08:34.94\00:08:38.02 Or a mouthwash... if you use a mouthwash that's warm 00:08:38.05\00:08:41.67 but not hot if it's an abscessed tooth, 00:08:41.70\00:08:43.95 or a toothache that involves the pulp, 00:08:43.96\00:08:47.05 just use warm water with salt in it... quite a lot of salt. 00:08:47.08\00:08:52.26 Salt is a bit of an astringent and that will help you 00:08:52.29\00:08:55.86 with a tooth that's giving you pain. 00:08:55.89\00:08:59.90 Or, you can use turmeric in the warm water. 00:08:59.93\00:09:04.20 Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory agent 00:09:04.23\00:09:06.77 and will act as an anti-inflammatory 00:09:06.80\00:09:09.12 agent in the mouth. 00:09:09.15\00:09:10.24 You can swallow some of the turmeric. 00:09:10.28\00:09:13.03 Use a teaspoonful of the turmeric to a glass 00:09:13.06\00:09:16.86 of warm water, and use it as a mouthwash 00:09:16.89\00:09:19.46 And, you can spit out most of it, but about half of a 00:09:19.49\00:09:23.49 teaspoonful... you can swallow that 00:09:23.52\00:09:25.92 as an anti-inflammatory agent that works internally. 00:09:25.95\00:09:30.13 So those are a few things that you can know about 00:09:30.16\00:09:34.86 how to handle a toothache. 00:09:34.87\00:09:36.18 Keep a little clove oil on hand all the time 00:09:36.21\00:09:38.43 just for such an emergency. 00:09:38.46\00:09:41.60 Now, there are a lot of other things about the 00:09:41.63\00:09:45.60 head and neck that give us some difficulty, 00:09:45.63\00:09:49.40 and I think that Dr. Miller is all prepared to give us some 00:09:49.43\00:09:54.43 instruction on how to take care of an ear problem. 00:09:54.46\00:09:57.95 Is that correct? That's right, ear problems. 00:09:57.98\00:09:59.56 You know, the ears are located quite closely to the teeth 00:09:59.59\00:10:02.78 and sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between 00:10:02.81\00:10:04.81 ...is this a toothache, or an earache? 00:10:04.84\00:10:07.07 And there is a very simple test. 00:10:07.10\00:10:09.06 Just take the earlobe and give a good, firm tug on the ear. 00:10:09.09\00:10:12.82 If it increases the pain, you probably have an earache. 00:10:12.85\00:10:16.96 If it does not increase the pain, 00:10:16.99\00:10:18.89 you probably have a toothache. 00:10:18.92\00:10:20.56 All right, now you've located it ... it's an earache 00:10:20.57\00:10:22.88 Now you take the top of the ear, and just wiggle it. 00:10:22.91\00:10:25.99 If it is an external earache, it will give you a lot of pain. 00:10:26.02\00:10:30.09 If it does not increase the pain, it is probably 00:10:30.12\00:10:32.77 an earache in the middle part of your ear... 00:10:32.80\00:10:37.45 so those are nice things to do. 00:10:37.48\00:10:38.71 I was in the country of Zambia one time teaching 00:10:38.74\00:10:43.49 natural remedies to a group of students there 00:10:43.52\00:10:45.89 and they loved to go out into the community 00:10:45.92\00:10:48.55 and try to find somebody who had problems. 00:10:48.58\00:10:50.84 They had all kinds of problems they could find. 00:10:50.87\00:10:53.54 They found a little girl who was in constant 00:10:53.57\00:10:58.08 24/7 pain, and her ear was completely infected. 00:10:58.11\00:11:02.85 Pus was running out of the canal. 00:11:02.88\00:11:04.85 There were large holes. 00:11:04.86\00:11:06.78 There was a hole behind her ear. 00:11:06.81\00:11:08.21 There were holes all around her ear. 00:11:08.24\00:11:10.28 The child was absolutely miserable. 00:11:10.31\00:11:13.11 Her parents had taken this child to every doctor, 00:11:13.14\00:11:16.80 every clinic, every hospital that they could within 00:11:16.83\00:11:19.72 the area where they live. 00:11:19.73\00:11:20.78 And that's as far away as the capital Lusaka 00:11:20.81\00:11:24.21 all in that area. 00:11:24.24\00:11:25.82 And, much like the woman there in the Bible, 00:11:25.85\00:11:28.84 the child did not grow better, but rather grew worse. 00:11:28.87\00:11:31.98 And, also, her parents had spent everything that they had 00:11:32.01\00:11:35.65 and they were ones that lived in a rather nice house. 00:11:35.68\00:11:38.86 They were now having to sell this house 00:11:38.89\00:11:41.08 to move to a mud hut just to pay the bills. 00:11:41.11\00:11:44.16 Well, my students found this little girl. 00:11:44.19\00:11:46.64 And, they came back and said... 00:11:46.67\00:11:48.47 "What can we do?" Well, what CAN you do? 00:11:48.50\00:11:50.22 Here we are out there in the middle of Africa 00:11:50.25\00:11:52.85 Well, we did what we could with what we had. 00:11:52.88\00:11:57.32 We put together a number of herbs. 00:11:57.35\00:11:59.00 I took some oil. I took some garlic. 00:11:59.03\00:12:01.77 I had brought with me some goldenseal powder... 00:12:01.80\00:12:04.14 sort of cheating there... but I had some goldenseal powder 00:12:04.17\00:12:06.39 But they had lots of herbs growing in an herb garden there 00:12:06.42\00:12:09.35 Took a number of things, made an ointment, 00:12:09.38\00:12:11.49 added some charcoal to it, 00:12:11.52\00:12:13.08 and then had the mother irrigate the ear 00:12:13.11\00:12:16.64 Dr. Thrash has mentioned in another program how 00:12:16.65\00:12:19.87 she likes to have bulb syringes. 00:12:19.90\00:12:21.67 I had taken with me on this particular trip, 00:12:21.70\00:12:23.80 20 bulb syringes. 00:12:23.83\00:12:25.34 I recommend if you're going to travel in a foreign country 00:12:25.37\00:12:28.19 especially in a third world country, you take bulb syringes 00:12:28.22\00:12:31.59 ...extremely versatile in many different areas. 00:12:31.62\00:12:35.59 I had the mother irrigate the ear. 00:12:35.62\00:12:38.15 As a matter of fact, my students did it first... 00:12:38.18\00:12:39.70 getting out some of the pus. 00:12:39.71\00:12:41.12 And then we applied some of this ointment that we had made 00:12:41.15\00:12:45.28 into the ear canal, and then put a piece of cotton in the ear. 00:12:45.31\00:12:49.25 That would be all day long, and then all night long, 00:12:49.28\00:12:52.90 we put a charcoal poultice... taught the mother how to do it 00:12:52.93\00:12:56.02 Put a charcoal poultice over the ear. 00:12:56.05\00:12:58.44 Now the child, because of the pain and the irritation, 00:12:58.47\00:13:02.20 was always scratching which really made it worse. 00:13:02.23\00:13:04.67 So we had her put little socks on her hands so she could not 00:13:04.70\00:13:09.30 scratch as well, and within a week, 00:13:09.31\00:13:12.38 the sores were completely scabbed over 00:13:12.39\00:13:15.37 She was completely out of pain, and she was 00:13:15.38\00:13:17.32 doing quite well. 00:13:17.35\00:13:18.40 And it cost nothing. 00:13:18.43\00:13:20.43 Even if she had had to pay for it, 00:13:20.46\00:13:22.05 it wouldn't have cost more than $5 00:13:22.08\00:13:23.85 And so we can see, God has some simple ways 00:13:23.88\00:13:26.81 to take care of the ear. 00:13:26.84\00:13:27.93 Earaches are extremely bad. 00:13:27.96\00:13:30.06 We had a woman call Uchee Pines some years ago 00:13:30.07\00:13:33.56 when Dr. Calvin Thrash was still alive, and she said, 00:13:33.57\00:13:37.18 "My daughter, she just has all the time, earaches, 00:13:37.21\00:13:40.59 and throat infections and she's been scheduled to 00:13:40.60\00:13:43.37 have her tonsils taken out, her adenoids taken out, 00:13:43.38\00:13:47.72 and tubes to be put into her ears... What can we do?" 00:13:47.75\00:13:51.11 And, Dr. Calvin, sage man that he was, 00:13:51.14\00:13:54.43 he said, "Ma'am, I'm not going to ask you whether your 00:13:54.46\00:13:58.03 daughter is on dairy products because I know she is. " 00:13:58.06\00:14:00.47 "Take her off the dairy products. " 00:14:00.51\00:14:01.95 And then give her some garlic, give her some Echinacea, 00:14:01.98\00:14:04.81 a few natural antibiotics. 00:14:04.84\00:14:06.63 Within a week, she was completely well. 00:14:06.67\00:14:08.45 Well the mother took the daughter back to her 00:14:08.49\00:14:12.05 pediatrician, and the pediatrician examined her 00:14:12.08\00:14:14.82 and said, "Well, you're doing fine. The medications worked. " 00:14:14.85\00:14:17.16 And the mother said, "I didn't give her the 00:14:17.19\00:14:19.09 medications. I just got her off the dairy products. " 00:14:19.12\00:14:21.41 And the doctor says... "That would have worked too. " 00:14:21.44\00:14:25.77 And the mother thought, "You were going to do all 00:14:25.80\00:14:29.09 these surgeries and that would have worked," and so 00:14:29.12\00:14:31.03 she took her daughter on out of there, and her daughter did fine 00:14:31.06\00:14:33.97 She's now a grown woman, married, has a child... 00:14:34.00\00:14:36.50 doing quite well. 00:14:36.53\00:14:37.81 And so, often our ear problems are caused by sensitivities to 00:14:37.84\00:14:42.43 foods... and the #1 food sensitivity in the entire world 00:14:42.46\00:14:45.98 is dairy products. 00:14:46.01\00:14:47.41 If you have a child who has throat infections, 00:14:47.44\00:14:50.23 ear infections... get them off of all forms of dairy 00:14:50.26\00:14:53.31 You got to really look at the labels... all forms of dairy 00:14:53.34\00:14:56.31 And if it stays gone for about a week, 00:14:56.34\00:14:59.43 off the dairy and you don't have any cessation of 00:14:59.46\00:15:02.49 of symptoms, maybe that wasn't your problem. 00:15:02.52\00:15:04.30 But I can almost guarantee that dairy is going to have 00:15:04.33\00:15:07.44 some type of deleterious effect upon your health. 00:15:07.47\00:15:09.62 And so, staying away from it might do you better. 00:15:09.65\00:15:11.86 There are other things you can do for an earache. 00:15:11.87\00:15:14.22 And I like to... Sometimes a person has an 00:15:14.25\00:15:16.30 earache, you take an ice cube, and you have them just 00:15:16.31\00:15:20.15 lay their head over and let the ice water drip into their ears. 00:15:20.18\00:15:23.02 For some people, that's all they need. 00:15:23.58\00:15:25.60 For other people, it will drive them through the roof! 00:15:25.63\00:15:27.85 For that person, you put warm air... 00:15:27.88\00:15:30.35 and you might take a hair dryer, 00:15:30.38\00:15:33.31 stand back about 2 feet, and just let that warm air 00:15:33.34\00:15:36.62 head towards the ear. 00:15:36.65\00:15:37.80 Sometimes just putting a heating lamp just outside 00:15:37.83\00:15:41.17 the ear and letting the heat get on the ear 00:15:41.20\00:15:43.73 is very good for an earache. 00:15:43.74\00:15:45.78 You could also take an onion, and bake the onion 00:15:45.79\00:15:48.37 until it's soft, and just place the onion 00:15:48.40\00:15:50.70 over the ear area, and strap that on the head. That's good. 00:15:50.73\00:15:53.42 A charcoal poultice will work very nicely for some people 00:15:54.23\00:15:58.45 in the ears when they have the ear infection. 00:15:58.48\00:16:00.67 Another problem we have with ears, 00:16:00.70\00:16:03.11 and I'm afraid this is probably pretty common 00:16:03.12\00:16:05.66 ...is impacted wax. 00:16:05.69\00:16:07.60 You know the old way they used to... the old mussel loader guns 00:16:07.63\00:16:11.02 They'd sit there and they'd pour some stuff in it 00:16:11.05\00:16:12.62 and they'd ram it down... 00:16:12.65\00:16:13.99 Well, that's what many people do with 00:16:14.02\00:16:15.24 a Q-tip... they reach in there, and they poke around 00:16:15.27\00:16:19.83 and what they often do, they start pushing wax 00:16:19.86\00:16:23.12 pushing wax back there. 00:16:23.15\00:16:24.96 It wasn't too long ago, I received a phone call 00:16:24.99\00:16:27.30 that someone was going to come visit Uchee Pines 00:16:27.33\00:16:30.67 and they wanted their ears cleaned out. 00:16:30.68\00:16:32.89 I said, "Fine, no problem, I like doing that. " 00:16:32.90\00:16:35.61 So the person arrived that day, 00:16:35.64\00:16:38.03 and I figure, "Well, since they wanted their ears cleaned out, 00:16:38.06\00:16:40.91 I'll just start cleaning it, and then I'll look later. 00:16:40.94\00:16:43.20 I could have gone ahead and used an otoscope, 00:16:43.23\00:16:45.83 and looked in there and looked at it. 00:16:45.86\00:16:46.94 I'm glad I did not because I probably would have 00:16:46.97\00:16:48.61 been pretty freaked-out with what I was seeing. 00:16:48.64\00:16:51.97 Anyway, what I used was a Waterpik. 00:16:52.00\00:16:56.19 And a Waterpik comes with a special attachment 00:16:56.22\00:16:58.47 ...you can buy a special attachment, 00:16:58.50\00:17:00.40 that you put on the end of a Waterpik and then you 00:17:00.43\00:17:03.24 put it up, and you always whenever you do an 00:17:03.27\00:17:05.99 irrigation of the ear, you shoot up. 00:17:06.02\00:17:08.66 The ear canal goes down, but you shoot up because 00:17:08.69\00:17:11.01 you don't want to shoot the eardrum itself. 00:17:11.02\00:17:13.64 And I started working around, and I was holding, 00:17:13.67\00:17:17.04 while I was doing this, a kidney dish outside the ear 00:17:17.07\00:17:20.87 What I basically do is, I have the patient hold this 00:17:20.90\00:17:23.40 next to their ear, and then I'll also have them 00:17:23.43\00:17:25.75 holding a towel to pick up the excess water... 00:17:25.78\00:17:28.36 And I was just playing around on the inside of the ear 00:17:28.39\00:17:32.15 and things started to come out. A lot of things! 00:17:32.18\00:17:35.02 And so I stopped and I went and dumped that and 00:17:35.05\00:17:36.83 refilled the water in the bowl of the Waterpik 00:17:36.84\00:17:40.87 and I did it again, and I did it again, 00:17:40.90\00:17:43.42 and I did it again... And then all of a sudden 00:17:43.45\00:17:46.39 appearing right on the outside of the ear 00:17:46.42\00:17:49.32 was a LARGE glob of something... 00:17:49.35\00:17:51.51 And I thought, "I don't know what I just got done 00:17:51.55\00:17:53.44 washing this guy's brains out! 00:17:53.47\00:17:54.85 I don't know what the problem was. " 00:17:54.88\00:17:56.12 This man had SO MUCH wax, and other things in his ear 00:17:56.15\00:18:01.44 I'm surprised he had any hearing. 00:18:01.47\00:18:03.21 As a matter of fact, that was his problem 00:18:03.24\00:18:04.62 He could not hear out of that ear. 00:18:04.63\00:18:06.45 I had another patient the same way. 00:18:06.48\00:18:08.81 I irrigated, probably for a half an hour, on each of these 00:18:08.84\00:18:12.36 ears and got a copious amount of ear wax and other 00:18:12.37\00:18:15.92 particulates out of their ears. 00:18:15.95\00:18:17.50 When that happens, the ear is going to be very sensitive. 00:18:17.51\00:18:20.82 And it also might be a little bit prone towards some 00:18:20.85\00:18:23.90 type of an infections or leastwise fungal infections. 00:18:23.93\00:18:27.48 And so what I did was, I mixed a little bit of vinegar 00:18:27.51\00:18:30.56 about 3 parts of vinegar, with 1 part of alcohol 00:18:30.59\00:18:33.93 and I had him tip his head over and I poured it into the ear 00:18:33.94\00:18:38.05 and then I shook it. 00:18:38.08\00:18:39.43 You always take the top of the ear and you shake it. 00:18:39.44\00:18:42.05 That straightens out the ear canal 00:18:42.08\00:18:43.60 ...letting all that liquid get down in there 00:18:43.63\00:18:45.81 the vinegar being antifungal, the alcohol being a drying agent 00:18:45.84\00:18:50.99 and an astringent agent, as Dr. Thrash has mentioned. 00:18:51.02\00:18:53.76 Then just had them pour that back out. 00:18:53.79\00:18:56.45 And they were completely well with that particular 00:18:56.48\00:18:59.25 simple treatment. 00:18:59.26\00:19:01.38 Now there is another way of doing an ear irrigation 00:19:01.41\00:19:04.94 and again, that's why you should always have a bulb syringe 00:19:04.97\00:19:08.69 Now, they make different types of bulb syringes 00:19:08.72\00:19:11.06 ...some with a much more streamlined nozzle on it, 00:19:11.09\00:19:16.88 some with a big bulb for doing nasal irrigations. 00:19:16.91\00:19:20.13 But, this is the one I Like to use for an ear irrigation. 00:19:20.16\00:19:23.87 And I'm going to have Justina come forward and sort of 00:19:23.90\00:19:26.61 demonstrate on her how you would do an ear irrigation. 00:19:26.64\00:19:30.96 I'm going to have you step on this side, Justina. 00:19:30.99\00:19:32.65 Now basically, you get the person involved 00:19:32.68\00:19:36.34 in their particular treatment. 00:19:36.38\00:19:37.59 You know, there are certain things that exacerbate pain, 00:19:37.62\00:19:40.92 and one is helplessness. 00:19:40.95\00:19:42.33 If you can get the patient involved in their treatment, 00:19:42.36\00:19:45.65 you're going to have them have a little bit less pain 00:19:45.68\00:19:48.87 and trepidation about... "What's this guy doing?" 00:19:48.90\00:19:51.11 Now they are part of the action. 00:19:51.14\00:19:53.02 And so, Justina, I'm going to have you just hold this 00:19:53.05\00:19:55.52 just below your ear, and the towel, again, is to 00:19:55.55\00:19:58.78 pick up the excess water because water will come out. 00:19:58.81\00:20:01.62 Now what you want to do is you want to put 00:20:01.65\00:20:04.29 water in here about body temperature. 00:20:04.30\00:20:06.82 Cold water can make an upset stomach. 00:20:06.85\00:20:09.68 It can make them very dizzy. 00:20:09.71\00:20:11.05 So you want to put just warm water in here 00:20:11.06\00:20:14.02 And I try as much as possible to expel all of the water 00:20:14.05\00:20:19.90 out of it and get it down to just water and no air. 00:20:19.93\00:20:24.82 And then what we do is, I grab the top of the ear 00:20:24.85\00:20:28.78 and I pull it up, and now that I've got just water 00:20:28.81\00:20:34.06 to the very surface, I put this thing inside the ear 00:20:34.09\00:20:37.77 ...hold your thing down just a little bit further... 00:20:37.80\00:20:40.67 so that I can shoot upwards. 00:20:40.70\00:20:43.38 And I SLOWLY, SLOWLY, increase the water, rather than just 00:20:43.41\00:20:48.94 You don't want to just squirt it in there because 00:20:48.97\00:20:51.90 that would make you both unhappy. 00:20:51.93\00:20:53.64 You play it around, you play it around the side, 00:20:53.67\00:20:57.67 you play it around the top 00:20:57.70\00:20:59.15 And as you do this, you're going to find some 00:20:59.18\00:21:01.41 particulate matter coming out. 00:21:01.44\00:21:02.87 You keep on playing this, 00:21:02.91\00:21:04.89 every once in a while, you have to refill the bulb. 00:21:04.92\00:21:06.57 I like to have a container of water that's full of warm water 00:21:06.61\00:21:09.21 Put my bulb syringe completely down in there 00:21:09.24\00:21:11.74 and then let it refill so that it's filled up to the very top 00:21:11.75\00:21:16.70 ...go back up, and continue playing around until you've 00:21:16.73\00:21:20.82 completely clean it out. 00:21:20.85\00:21:22.14 You can go to a store and buy some very inexpensive 00:21:22.17\00:21:27.79 otoscopes, and these otoscopes are good for looking in the ear 00:21:27.82\00:21:31.90 making sure you've gotten everything that's in there. 00:21:31.93\00:21:33.84 And then again, I would recommend you put some 00:21:33.87\00:21:36.02 alcohol, some vinegar in there to take care. 00:21:36.05\00:21:38.37 Now the vinegar is good for... 00:21:38.40\00:21:39.64 Let's say Justina had been swimming in a lake or a 00:21:39.67\00:21:42.54 swimming pool and got, what we call, "swimmers ear" 00:21:42.57\00:21:44.86 Always, the best treatment for swimmer's ear is 00:21:44.89\00:21:47.99 vinegar in the ear. 00:21:48.02\00:21:49.74 So what you basically do is you have them put them 00:21:49.77\00:21:51.79 put their head to the side, you put vinegar in the ear 00:21:51.82\00:21:54.61 let them hold it there for a while, dump it out 00:21:54.64\00:21:57.51 and that will pretty much kill the fungal infection... 00:21:57.54\00:22:00.53 And that's a nice thing to have done... Dr. Thrash 00:22:00.56\00:22:03.12 Thank you, Justina. 00:22:03.15\00:22:04.61 Well I like very much these simple things that are so 00:22:04.64\00:22:08.21 relieving for a lot of people for so many things. 00:22:08.24\00:22:11.34 Now, I want to talk with you just a moment about where 00:22:11.37\00:22:16.41 the water is going. 00:22:16.44\00:22:17.65 Sometimes people think, "Well, they must be washing 00:22:17.68\00:22:21.51 around on the inside of the ear, way up in the internal ear, 00:22:21.54\00:22:25.82 or the middle ear, or maybe even they're 00:22:25.85\00:22:28.47 as far down as the brain. 00:22:28.50\00:22:30.64 But I'd like to draw a little diagram so that you will 00:22:30.67\00:22:33.35 see just where the water is going when you irrigate the ear 00:22:33.38\00:22:37.21 And really, for an eardrum that's intact, 00:22:37.22\00:22:41.42 the water is only going to go, actually what we might even 00:22:41.45\00:22:46.22 think of as being the outside of the body. 00:22:46.25\00:22:49.74 But if we say that this is the ear, then here is the 00:22:49.77\00:22:56.26 canal like this, and let me point this a little bit better 00:22:56.29\00:23:03.53 this way so that it goes up this way... 00:23:03.56\00:23:08.67 And at the end of this is the tympanic membrane 00:23:08.70\00:23:13.53 or the eardrum. 00:23:13.54\00:23:15.19 And this, of course, is open to the outside so when you 00:23:15.22\00:23:18.39 put the bulb syringe in, you direct the stream upward a bit 00:23:18.42\00:23:25.65 and that encourages the entire external ear to get the fluid. 00:23:25.68\00:23:34.17 And in this way, whatever may be there, 00:23:34.20\00:23:36.77 whether it's bugs, or some kind of debris, 00:23:36.80\00:23:40.98 or whether it's the ear wax... 00:23:41.01\00:23:42.77 Whatever it may be, that will enable you 00:23:42.78\00:23:46.57 to get rid of it nicely. 00:23:46.60\00:23:47.79 Now another thing that's a good thing to know how 00:23:47.82\00:23:51.76 to deal with is a sore throat. 00:23:51.79\00:23:53.95 Gargles for a sore throat can be very helpful. 00:23:53.96\00:23:56.69 Hot gargles with just plain table salt in it, 00:23:56.72\00:24:00.23 or it can be goldenseal tea made very strong 00:24:00.26\00:24:03.22 ...or some other kind of astringent tea 00:24:03.25\00:24:06.31 can be used and that soothes and heals the tonsils 00:24:06.32\00:24:10.71 and the back of the throat. 00:24:10.74\00:24:11.85 Now another thing that we find people often suffering from 00:24:11.88\00:24:16.78 is acute sinusitis... 00:24:16.81\00:24:18.44 And it often occurs right across the cheekbones, 00:24:18.47\00:24:21.19 and right across the upper part of the eyebrows 00:24:21.22\00:24:25.22 and the mid portion of the forehead. 00:24:25.25\00:24:27.40 Acute sinusitis in contradistinction to 00:24:27.43\00:24:31.17 chronic sinusitis, which is usually caused by a 00:24:31.20\00:24:34.39 food sensitivity. 00:24:34.42\00:24:35.57 Acute sinusitis can be caused by either a virus, 00:24:35.58\00:24:39.16 or by a germ such as a streptococcus that 00:24:39.19\00:24:42.82 gives you an infection in the sinuses. 00:24:42.85\00:24:46.38 The same kind of thing that causes the sore throat. 00:24:46.41\00:24:49.22 For that, hot compresses to the face can be 00:24:49.25\00:24:53.59 very relieving of the pain and can also heal the person. 00:24:53.62\00:24:58.70 To sit in a tub of hot water, will sometimes just 00:24:58.71\00:25:03.05 almost instantly cause a relief of that pressure 00:25:03.08\00:25:06.77 and discomfort, the pain, the gripping discomfort 00:25:06.80\00:25:12.15 in the sinuses. 00:25:12.18\00:25:13.70 Now, there are certain ways to eat that have principles 00:25:13.73\00:25:17.90 involved in those, and there are several principles 00:25:17.93\00:25:22.24 that you can learn that will help you to know how to eat. 00:25:22.27\00:25:25.22 Dr. Don Miller will tell you something about these 00:25:25.25\00:25:29.69 4 principles on how to eat. 00:25:29.70\00:25:32.74 These are very simple and I think you need to 00:25:32.77\00:25:34.86 write these down and make sure you follow them at all times. 00:25:34.89\00:25:37.30 The first one is choose your food carefully. 00:25:37.33\00:25:40.89 Now what does that mean? 00:25:40.92\00:25:42.27 It means you don't go to the store, and go to the 00:25:42.30\00:25:44.58 bargain table and get the stuff that's all 00:25:44.61\00:25:46.35 shrink-wrapped in cellophane because it's sort of 00:25:46.38\00:25:48.98 bad on the other side. 00:25:49.01\00:25:50.36 If it's bad on the other side, it's bad all over... 00:25:50.39\00:25:52.65 Don't take that. You choose your food carefully 00:25:52.68\00:25:55.55 every time you go shopping. 00:25:55.58\00:25:57.00 Does that mean buy all organic produce? 00:25:57.03\00:25:59.87 It doesn't mean that... if you can't afford it. 00:25:59.90\00:26:01.67 You get the BEST you can buy for the money that you have. 00:26:01.70\00:26:04.52 You try to stay away from things in bags and boxes 00:26:04.55\00:26:07.75 and even cans... because they always 00:26:07.78\00:26:09.82 got things in there, whether it's salt... 00:26:09.85\00:26:12.16 there's going to be sugar, preservatives, 00:26:12.19\00:26:13.77 all kinds of strange things. 00:26:13.80\00:26:15.07 Eat as fresh as you can. 00:26:15.10\00:26:16.47 Second point... Prepare your food as carefully as you can. 00:26:16.50\00:26:21.09 The first point in preparation is WASH IT. 00:26:21.12\00:26:23.46 You wash your grapes. You wash your bananas. 00:26:23.49\00:26:25.64 You wash your carrots. You wash everything 00:26:25.67\00:26:28.25 before you put it into your body. 00:26:28.28\00:26:29.73 And then you prepare it healthfully... 00:26:29.76\00:26:32.19 You don't sit there and cook it to death. 00:26:32.22\00:26:33.63 You don't put lots of salt, sugar, oil on it. 00:26:33.66\00:26:36.09 You prepare it as carefully as possible. 00:26:36.12\00:26:37.94 The third step... very simple. You ask God to bless it. 00:26:37.95\00:26:41.42 If you've done point 1 and point 2, 00:26:41.45\00:26:43.57 He WILL indeed do His part... in point 3 00:26:43.60\00:26:46.36 And the third step is... just eat it, 00:26:46.39\00:26:48.66 quit worrying about it... because if you think it's 00:26:48.69\00:26:50.21 going to hurt you, it probably will. 00:26:50.24\00:26:52.04 And so we realize that if you sit down with a meal 00:26:52.07\00:26:54.80 and you've done all that you can, 00:26:54.81\00:26:56.23 and you've asked God to do all that He's willing 00:26:56.26\00:26:58.07 to do, you can eat that food... 00:26:58.10\00:26:59.83 and the Bible says there in Mark the 16th chapter... 00:26:59.86\00:27:02.41 "If you take any deadly thing, it will not harm you. " 00:27:02.44\00:27:05.27 And I believe that's the promise for these last days 00:27:05.30\00:27:07.16 when everything around us wants to harm us. 00:27:07.19\00:27:09.19 God wants to take care of us, and so let's just listen 00:27:09.22\00:27:11.45 to His simple ways and He'll teach us... Right, Dr. Thrash? 00:27:11.48\00:27:14.48 Yes, that's a very important thing 00:27:15.44\00:27:17.39 that you can always count on. 00:27:17.42\00:27:19.29 If you're careful in doing what your part is, 00:27:19.33\00:27:22.18 our Heavenly Father has pledged Himself to be 00:27:22.21\00:27:25.43 responsible for His part. 00:27:25.46\00:27:27.10 We cannot keep ourselves healthy... 00:27:27.11\00:27:29.44 We cannot be the ones who decide how strong we 00:27:29.47\00:27:32.63 come into this world, but we can be the ones 00:27:32.66\00:27:35.37 who determine how well we take care of the body. 00:27:35.40\00:27:37.81 And to take care of it means that you bring 00:27:37.84\00:27:40.79 into the body only fresh and pure things 00:27:40.82\00:27:43.53 as well as you are able. 00:27:43.56\00:27:45.02 Fresh air, fresh sunshine, fresh things that have 00:27:45.05\00:27:50.69 to do with the feeding of the mind. 00:27:50.72\00:27:52.81 Everything fresh, clean and pure, 00:27:52.84\00:27:55.89 and God will bless you! 00:27:55.92\00:27:57.79
