It seems to me that viral infections are increasing, 00:00:01.98\00:00:04.55 and that the number of people 00:00:04.62\00:00:06.31 who get viral infections 00:00:06.34\00:00:07.31 is also increasing. 00:00:07.34\00:00:08.31 So we have both the number of viruses 00:00:09.64\00:00:11.61 and the number of people involved that seem to be 00:00:11.64\00:00:14.06 increasing. 00:00:14.09\00:00:15.06 We'll be talking about this subject for the next 00:00:15.07\00:00:17.97 half an hour. 00:00:18.00\00:00:19.01 I'm Agatha Thrash from Uchee Pines Institute 00:00:19.04\00:00:22.05 and some of my helpers from there will be discussing 00:00:22.08\00:00:25.74 this topic... so we hope you will join us. 00:00:25.77\00:00:26.74 Welcome to "Help Yourself to Health" with Dr. Agatha Thrash 00:00:48.14\00:00:51.94 of Uchee Pines Institute. 00:00:51.97\00:00:54.13 And now, here's your host, Dr. Thrash. 00:00:54.16\00:00:58.68 Sometimes it is quite difficult for us to make the diagnosis 00:00:58.71\00:01:02.61 of a viral infection. 00:01:02.64\00:01:04.39 Sometimes a viral infection will appear to be 00:01:04.42\00:01:08.35 a trauma... 00:01:08.38\00:01:09.35 or will appear to be... 00:01:09.36\00:01:12.18 some kind of collagen disease. 00:01:12.21\00:01:13.99 Or maybe, we think it's an allergy. 00:01:14.02\00:01:17.23 And sometimes, we go this way and that way... 00:01:17.26\00:01:20.03 and we may finally say, well it's for sure an allergy. 00:01:20.06\00:01:24.23 And I think that probably I have thought in myself, 00:01:24.26\00:01:27.82 as well as in my patients 00:01:27.85\00:01:29.32 that an allergy was a virus, or a virus was an allergy 00:01:29.35\00:01:32.81 more than any other single mistake that we might make 00:01:32.84\00:01:36.56 in diagnosis. 00:01:36.59\00:01:37.68 And so a number of years ago, my husband and I 00:01:37.71\00:01:39.81 wrote a book called, "Food Allergies Made Simple," 00:01:39.84\00:01:42.88 along with Phyllis Austin... 00:01:42.91\00:01:44.61 And in this, we discussed the symptoms of various allergies, 00:01:44.64\00:01:50.12 and if you were to read these, you would think that we were 00:01:50.15\00:01:53.90 maybe talking about a viral infection... 00:01:53.93\00:01:56.01 because they often sound exactly the same. 00:01:56.04\00:01:59.04 So if you have some kind of affliction 00:01:59.07\00:02:02.16 that seems to be an infection and it goes on for a long time, 00:02:02.19\00:02:05.53 you have a fever... every night you have a fever, 00:02:05.56\00:02:08.36 your muscles ache, your joints ache, 00:02:08.39\00:02:10.83 you have a headache, 00:02:10.86\00:02:11.89 maybe even you feel a little sore throat... 00:02:11.92\00:02:13.99 it may not be a virus, it may be an allergy. 00:02:14.02\00:02:18.20 But in dealing with allergies, 00:02:18.23\00:02:20.57 we need to have some tools, 00:02:20.60\00:02:23.31 and some of these tools are very simple. 00:02:23.34\00:02:25.42 And I have asked my cohort at Uchee Pines, John Champen, 00:02:25.45\00:02:30.09 to talk with you about an allergy that he deals with 00:02:30.12\00:02:34.45 sometimes... 00:02:34.48\00:02:35.45 And so, at this time, 00:02:35.46\00:02:36.94 John Champen will talk with you. 00:02:36.97\00:02:38.98 This is one of our health educators 00:02:39.01\00:02:41.82 and administrators at Uchee Pines. 00:02:41.85\00:02:44.22 John Champen. 00:02:44.25\00:02:45.22 Thank you. 00:02:45.23\00:02:47.11 There's something that happens around here 00:02:47.14\00:02:49.99 and around, I guess, all parts of the country 00:02:50.02\00:02:51.88 and a little in the fall and in the winter... 00:02:51.91\00:02:55.17 people start getting the flu. 00:02:55.20\00:02:59.13 The bug comes by... 00:02:59.16\00:03:00.33 they find that their throat starts to bother them 00:03:00.36\00:03:02.91 and the next thing you know, 00:03:02.94\00:03:05.48 the glands are swollen on the side... 00:03:05.51\00:03:07.42 they're running a temperature 00:03:07.45\00:03:08.93 and they're in the full swing of it. 00:03:08.96\00:03:11.60 Well, I've had the same problem, 00:03:11.63\00:03:14.28 and I'm sure you've had it too. 00:03:14.31\00:03:15.68 And they get shots for flu and different things like that. 00:03:15.71\00:03:19.99 Then, I got to thinking one day, 00:03:20.02\00:03:22.48 well, God has a solution to everything... 00:03:22.51\00:03:25.78 We may be among those who have a virus or flu 00:03:25.81\00:03:30.08 and some people get it and some people don't. 00:03:30.11\00:03:34.49 Well, I used to get it and get it quite often. 00:03:34.52\00:03:37.01 But for the last 5 years, 00:03:37.04\00:03:39.04 I haven't had a virus. 00:03:39.07\00:03:40.60 Those around me in the office with me where I work, 00:03:40.63\00:03:43.42 they've had the virus... 00:03:43.45\00:03:45.11 and I haven't had the virus. 00:03:45.14\00:03:47.68 I've had the beginning of the virus though, 00:03:47.71\00:03:49.80 but at the first symptom, 00:03:49.83\00:03:51.52 something interesting began to happen. 00:03:51.55\00:03:55.37 I reasoned that lemon... 00:03:55.40\00:03:58.14 you know, I've never seen a worm in a lemon... have you? 00:03:58.17\00:04:02.13 Lemon is a natural antibiotic. 00:04:02.16\00:04:04.90 And I said... "Well, perhaps 00:04:04.93\00:04:06.87 ALSO, it can deal with the virus very effectively"... 00:04:06.90\00:04:10.83 So, I thought maybe not so much in taking lemonade 00:04:10.86\00:04:15.49 but perhaps if lemon juice 00:04:15.52\00:04:18.25 was in the area where the viral infection was 00:04:18.28\00:04:21.17 just beginning. 00:04:21.20\00:04:22.24 ...maybe it would take care of it. 00:04:22.27\00:04:24.39 And so, this is what I did... 00:04:24.42\00:04:26.41 The next time I had a first sign, 00:04:26.44\00:04:29.50 and, of course, I've come to recognize those signs, 00:04:29.53\00:04:31.69 that little feeling in the back of your throat... 00:04:31.72\00:04:34.38 it's a little bit raw and... you know what I'm talking about. 00:04:34.41\00:04:38.86 You've had that too. 00:04:38.89\00:04:39.86 And so, I took the lemon juice, 00:04:39.87\00:04:43.02 and I took it up and I 00:04:43.05\00:04:47.64 rinsed my mouth to get the area nice and lemony 00:04:47.67\00:04:50.98 and then held it in the back of my mouth... 00:04:51.01\00:04:53.22 I said, "Well, let's give it a good try. " 00:04:53.25\00:04:55.97 "Let me see if I can hold it back there for about 00:04:56.00\00:04:57.96 20 minutes to a half an hour. " 00:04:57.99\00:05:00.24 It's a little reflex back there that makes you want to swallow. 00:05:00.27\00:05:05.20 But, I held it anyway. 00:05:05.23\00:05:06.94 and when a little bit went back 00:05:06.97\00:05:09.26 and a little bit more swallowed, 00:05:09.29\00:05:10.45 I just took another little sip... 00:05:10.48\00:05:12.74 so that I kept the surface of my mouth all lemony 00:05:12.77\00:05:16.51 for about a half an hour. 00:05:16.54\00:05:20.30 After that time, I got up and I 00:05:20.33\00:05:24.44 I noticed that there was a difference... 00:05:24.47\00:05:26.69 a slight difference. 00:05:26.72\00:05:27.69 And within 45 minutes to an hour, 00:05:27.70\00:05:29.90 the sensation that had begun was finished. 00:05:29.93\00:05:34.09 My flu was averted, 00:05:34.12\00:05:37.28 and I said, "Well, maybe it's just a quirk. " 00:05:37.31\00:05:40.90 So, the next time, it came around again... 00:05:40.93\00:05:45.89 another flu, I don't know what flu it was... 00:05:45.92\00:05:48.10 what number it was. 00:05:48.13\00:05:49.37 But I did the same thing. 00:05:49.40\00:05:50.51 I took the lemon juice the first sign 00:05:50.54\00:05:54.28 and I held it in the back of my mouth... 00:05:54.31\00:05:56.80 swished it around my mouth, 00:05:56.83\00:05:57.86 I laid down so that it stayed in the back, 00:05:57.89\00:06:00.33 making sure that it stayed there, 00:06:00.36\00:06:01.98 and I found that I was getting 00:06:02.01\00:06:03.53 a little better with that swallowing reflex... 00:06:03.56\00:06:05.50 I could hold it a little bit longer. 00:06:05.53\00:06:07.10 And for a half hour... 00:06:07.13\00:06:08.93 and I found that it was gone. 00:06:08.96\00:06:11.91 I didn't get the flu... 00:06:11.94\00:06:12.97 and it's been over 5 years now and I haven't had the flu! 00:06:13.00\00:06:16.05 I've had the first symptoms of the flu, 00:06:16.08\00:06:18.06 but I haven't had the flu or a cold in over 5 years. 00:06:18.09\00:06:22.77 And, I'd like to show you now with Melissa, 00:06:22.80\00:06:25.57 just how that is done. 00:06:25.60\00:06:27.15 Melissa is coming up... 00:06:27.18\00:06:32.42 and she's going to take a little swallow of it 00:06:32.45\00:06:35.69 and then rinse it around in her mouth 00:06:35.72\00:06:38.02 and then she's going to lay down... 00:06:38.05\00:06:42.88 so that it stays in the back... 00:06:42.91\00:06:44.49 She's doing very well. 00:06:44.52\00:06:46.04 So that it stays at the back of the mouth 00:06:46.07\00:06:48.04 and try not to swallow. 00:06:48.07\00:06:49.88 And she just relaxes and rests. 00:06:49.91\00:06:52.45 I find that doing that the first thing in the morning, 00:06:52.48\00:06:55.58 either before I go to work, 00:06:55.61\00:06:56.99 or at night, 00:06:57.02\00:06:59.04 or whenever it is practical. 00:06:59.07\00:07:01.55 And it doesn't take very long. 00:07:01.58\00:07:02.83 You can do it on your lunch hour. 00:07:02.86\00:07:04.10 Whenever you feel that bug coming on, 00:07:04.13\00:07:07.03 you can go ahead and have that simple treatment. 00:07:07.06\00:07:09.48 It's a blessing! 00:07:09.51\00:07:12.12 And, it is very, very cheap. 00:07:12.15\00:07:13.86 Now you can use lemon juice here, or 00:07:13.89\00:07:16.95 you can use what is right here... 00:07:16.98\00:07:23.12 ...lemon 00:07:23.15\00:07:27.01 or a lime. 00:07:27.04\00:07:29.62 And you do exactly the same thing 00:07:29.65\00:07:31.26 whether it's a lemon or a lime. 00:07:31.29\00:07:32.90 You do exactly the same thing. 00:07:32.93\00:07:36.73 Thank you. 00:07:36.76\00:07:40.82 This is a natural treatment that the Lord has provided for us... 00:07:40.85\00:07:43.83 And, at Uchee Pines, I've shared this with others 00:07:43.86\00:07:46.91 and even one of the physicians there and they have tried it 00:07:46.94\00:07:52.55 and they've shared it with others 00:07:52.58\00:07:54.39 And I'd like you to try it. 00:07:54.42\00:07:55.72 The next time you feel the first sign of the flu coming on 00:07:55.75\00:07:58.97 that sensation in the back of your throat that you know 00:07:59.00\00:08:02.28 what it leads to... try some lemon juice. 00:08:02.31\00:08:06.13 Take it... swish it around in your mouth 00:08:06.16\00:08:09.36 ...hold it in the back of the mouth, 00:08:09.39\00:08:10.60 lie down for 20 minutes to a half an hour. 00:08:10.63\00:08:12.78 And then, when you get up, rinse your mouth real well 00:08:12.81\00:08:16.23 because the lemon juice has a lot of acid and 00:08:16.26\00:08:19.51 it etches your teeth. 00:08:19.54\00:08:21.01 So rinse your mouth 2 or 3 times after you get up 00:08:21.04\00:08:23.93 and you'll find that with the blessing of the Lord, 00:08:23.96\00:08:26.86 there are 2 more things that would be helpful also. 00:08:26.89\00:08:29.90 One is, don't take any sweets for that day. 00:08:29.93\00:08:32.92 Be sure you take nothing that has extra sugar in it. 00:08:32.95\00:08:35.32 And the second thing is, drink plenty of water. 00:08:35.35\00:08:38.42 And I believe God will bless you even as He has blessed me. 00:08:38.45\00:08:43.15 I'm sure that He will and 00:08:43.18\00:08:44.21 you know it's such a simple treatment 00:08:44.24\00:08:46.25 and, of course, it has vitamin C in it and a number of other 00:08:46.28\00:08:50.24 nice nutrients that it certainly will do you no harm 00:08:50.27\00:08:54.70 and an interesting thing about this treatment is 00:08:54.73\00:08:58.62 what John Champen was telling you and that is that 00:08:58.65\00:09:01.89 you take it with the very first sign that you've got 00:09:01.92\00:09:05.47 the problem. 00:09:05.50\00:09:06.47 And that's a rule 00:09:06.50\00:09:07.47 of treatment. 00:09:07.50\00:09:08.47 The sooner you begin treating it, 00:09:09.12\00:09:11.61 the greater the likelihood that you have for success. 00:09:11.64\00:09:14.85 So, at the very sign of a symptom, 00:09:14.88\00:09:19.28 consider that to be a signal from heaven telling you 00:09:19.31\00:09:22.84 that tissue is about to be injured 00:09:22.87\00:09:25.01 and then you can institute your treatment at that time. 00:09:25.04\00:09:28.46 Now I'd like to show you the differing signs or sizes 00:09:28.49\00:09:34.63 of a virus. 00:09:34.66\00:09:36.23 So, let me just show you here on the board 00:09:36.26\00:09:39.61 just what you can expect in the way of these very tiny viruses 00:09:39.64\00:09:43.98 and you can see why it is that we are having a problem with 00:09:44.01\00:09:48.69 these viruses. 00:09:48.72\00:09:50.12 Let us say that this represents the size of a small bacterium. 00:09:50.15\00:09:58.48 A very, very small bacterium 00:09:58.51\00:10:02.55 requiring the high power lens of a microscope 00:10:02.58\00:10:07.23 in order to see it with oil immersion. 00:10:07.26\00:10:10.96 Then, if that's the size of a bacterium, 00:10:10.99\00:10:15.89 then a very large virus would be perhaps this size. 00:10:15.92\00:10:21.49 And a medium-size virus would be perhaps that size. 00:10:21.52\00:10:25.47 You can't see these with a microscope. 00:10:25.50\00:10:27.50 And then, a very small virus would be quite tiny... 00:10:27.53\00:10:33.01 ...of course, very much submicroscopic. 00:10:33.04\00:10:36.13 Now as we think about the fact that 00:10:36.16\00:10:39.12 these are the sizes of viruses, 00:10:39.15\00:10:42.05 as compared to ordinary bacteria that we're exposed 00:10:42.08\00:10:44.84 to all the time, 00:10:44.87\00:10:45.84 then we can see why it is that the Bible calls this 00:10:45.85\00:10:48.81 the pestilence that is hidden, 00:10:48.84\00:10:52.65 we don't see it, it walks at midnight. 00:10:52.68\00:10:55.73 And certainly these are viruses and pestilences 00:10:55.76\00:10:59.89 that are in the dark, we cannot see them. 00:10:59.92\00:11:03.54 So, we need to protect ourselves from them even though 00:11:03.57\00:11:06.74 we can't see them. 00:11:06.77\00:11:07.74 And that means when we get fruit from the grocery store, 00:11:07.75\00:11:10.58 we wash it first. 00:11:10.61\00:11:11.98 It's not taken to the refrigerator and stored 00:11:12.01\00:11:15.20 in the refrigerator with all of our other food. 00:11:15.23\00:11:18.23 We take it first to the sink and wash it. 00:11:18.26\00:11:20.66 And if you think it might be fairly contaminated, 00:11:20.69\00:11:24.40 was it with soap. 00:11:24.43\00:11:25.81 Sometimes some fruit has been not handled by human 00:11:25.84\00:11:30.03 hands since it did have a washing period. 00:11:30.06\00:11:32.17 And if so, you may only have to wash off the grocer's 00:11:32.20\00:11:35.79 fingerprints... 00:11:35.82\00:11:37.46 As well as those who come by to pick it up and 00:11:37.49\00:11:41.09 they wipe their nose and they cough on their hands 00:11:41.12\00:11:45.17 or whatever they do and then they touch the fruit... 00:11:45.20\00:11:48.54 and their viruses from their illnesses are now on the fruit. 00:11:48.57\00:11:53.77 If you eat that unwashed, then you are subject to 00:11:53.80\00:11:56.71 the kind of illness that they had. 00:11:56.74\00:11:59.13 Now, we have a number of treatments other than those 00:11:59.16\00:12:03.65 having to do with lemon juice. 00:12:03.68\00:12:06.55 And, Don Miller is going to show you some of those. 00:12:06.58\00:12:10.11 Don Miller, it looks as if you have quite a lot of things here. 00:12:10.14\00:12:13.67 And I think that we're going to do hydrotherapy. 00:12:13.70\00:12:16.48 We're going to do hydrotherapy and the reason why 00:12:16.51\00:12:18.47 I've got this one right here 00:12:18.50\00:12:20.14 is Melissa is busy right now with her lemon juice, 00:12:20.17\00:12:22.90 so I have to use her doll here to demonstrate 00:12:22.93\00:12:25.19 the particular treatment that I'm going to be showing you. 00:12:25.22\00:12:27.15 I want to show you 2 different types of packs 00:12:27.18\00:12:31.11 we're going to call them. 00:12:31.14\00:12:32.11 One is what is called a wet-sheet pack. 00:12:32.12\00:12:34.58 Now Dr. Thrash has showed you the relative size of virus... 00:12:34.61\00:12:39.15 It's a very small enemy but we can attack it 00:12:39.18\00:12:42.57 in a very large way using something as simple as 00:12:42.60\00:12:45.24 hydrotherapy. 00:12:45.27\00:12:46.24 And I believe in hydrotherapy very much. 00:12:46.25\00:12:48.61 What we want to do when we do a wet sheet pack is 00:12:48.64\00:12:51.76 basically that's what we use 00:12:51.79\00:12:53.03 and I'm going to use, for this case, just a wet towel. 00:12:53.06\00:12:55.87 This is going to be a dry towel. 00:12:55.90\00:12:56.87 This is what we call a "dry run" 00:12:56.88\00:12:58.38 where we take a towel, and in the case of a large human, 00:12:58.41\00:13:02.87 a sheet, and put it in cold water and wring it out. 00:13:02.90\00:13:06.82 And then we're going to take the patient, 00:13:06.85\00:13:09.50 and what we normally have them do... 00:13:09.53\00:13:11.69 see this one is frowning because she is not too well today... 00:13:11.72\00:13:14.93 we'd have them raise their arms 00:13:14.96\00:13:16.93 but she doesn't raise her arms very well but 00:13:16.96\00:13:18.70 the reason why we want to do that... 00:13:18.73\00:13:20.12 is we take the sheet and we take it... 00:13:20.15\00:13:25.02 ...perhaps I could help you here.. That would be a good idea 00:13:25.05\00:13:27.38 She's not very cooperative today. 00:13:27.41\00:13:31.21 You want to have every part of the body touching 00:13:31.24\00:13:34.55 the wet sheet. 00:13:34.58\00:13:35.55 And so what we do is, we take the sheet 00:13:35.56\00:13:40.69 and we start over and cross it over the body 00:13:40.72\00:13:46.45 and go underneath the arm 00:13:46.48\00:13:49.75 and then around this leg over here because 00:13:49.78\00:13:53.35 it's got to be completely surrounding the leg. 00:13:53.38\00:13:56.00 And the other part of the sheet will go across the other way 00:13:56.03\00:13:59.49 this time getting this whole arm... this part of the sheet 00:13:59.52\00:14:03.31 is underneath the arm... 00:14:03.34\00:14:04.49 this sheet is over the arm. 00:14:04.52\00:14:06.10 This one came from under the arm and it goes over the arm. 00:14:06.13\00:14:10.50 And then the bottom of it then tucks around 00:14:10.53\00:14:14.01 this other leg. 00:14:14.04\00:14:15.16 Basically, she is completely covered now by a wet sheet. 00:14:15.19\00:14:19.53 And, what we can also do is, we can use a hot foot bath 00:14:19.56\00:14:24.75 to accelerate the treatment or the vigorousness of 00:14:24.78\00:14:28.11 this treatment. 00:14:28.14\00:14:29.11 We put her feet in hot water... 00:14:29.12\00:14:31.10 at the same time we would want to take 00:14:31.13\00:14:33.17 a blanket or a towel 00:14:33.20\00:14:35.47 and drape her shoulders to keep her from getting chilled. 00:14:35.50\00:14:38.51 You do not want a person receiving this treatment 00:14:38.54\00:14:41.38 to become chilled. 00:14:41.41\00:14:42.38 So I would drape the shoulders 00:14:42.39\00:14:43.69 and then I would wrap the entire body 00:14:43.72\00:14:46.49 in another blanket or a towel 00:14:46.52\00:14:48.54 as the case might be. 00:14:48.57\00:14:50.31 For a child, you can use a large towel. 00:14:50.34\00:14:52.80 But now the child is being wrapped up... 00:14:52.83\00:14:55.06 now what's happening inside here 00:14:55.09\00:14:57.24 is you first put down this wet, cold sheet 00:14:57.27\00:15:01.18 Well, that's going to cause an immediate reaction of a 00:15:01.21\00:15:03.64 vasoconstriction. 00:15:03.67\00:15:04.91 But the body is jealous for warmth and for healing 00:15:04.94\00:15:08.92 and so it starts sending blood to the area 00:15:08.95\00:15:11.77 to increase the warmth of the area. 00:15:11.80\00:15:14.48 Now as that temperature goes up, 00:15:14.51\00:15:16.89 which now this is an entire body the temperature is going up 00:15:16.92\00:15:20.67 When the temperature goes up, we are rallying and increasing 00:15:20.70\00:15:24.50 our white blood cells. 00:15:24.53\00:15:25.63 We're saying, "White blood cells it's time to get to work. " 00:15:25.66\00:15:29.17 And so now, our spleen and our bone marrow starts 00:15:29.20\00:15:35.06 producing white blood cells, I'm trying to say. 00:15:35.09\00:15:37.12 And we have far more white blood cells in the bloodstream 00:15:37.15\00:15:40.17 out there fighting these little viruses 00:15:40.20\00:15:42.30 to try to bring down the disease process. 00:15:42.33\00:15:44.69 And this treatment... 00:15:44.72\00:15:46.45 now the first maybe 10 minutes of the treatment, 00:15:46.48\00:15:49.66 is a stimulant treatment. 00:15:49.69\00:15:54.03 It will really get a person roused up because it's cold. 00:15:54.06\00:15:56.65 But then it becomes, as it starts to heat up, about 00:15:56.68\00:15:58.96 body temperature, a sedative treatment. 00:15:58.99\00:16:01.65 But as it goes on beyond that, it becomes a 00:16:01.68\00:16:04.57 pyrotechnic treatment, if I can use the term. 00:16:04.60\00:16:06.95 It heats the person up and gives the person a fever. 00:16:06.98\00:16:09.95 And a fever is what we call a friend. 00:16:09.98\00:16:13.02 It's not an enemy that we have to throw aspirin at. 00:16:13.05\00:16:15.57 A fever is a friend. 00:16:15.60\00:16:17.08 And as a person's temperature goes up, 00:16:17.11\00:16:19.33 as I've already mentioned, white blood cells increase 00:16:19.36\00:16:22.24 and healing takes place. 00:16:22.27\00:16:23.88 And before long, instead of having a sickly and sorrowful 00:16:23.91\00:16:29.72 patient, you have a happy patient... 00:16:29.75\00:16:32.67 because now they're feeling so much better for the treatment 00:16:32.70\00:16:35.14 Now there's another thing you can do 00:16:35.17\00:16:36.90 in this type of a treatment. 00:16:36.93\00:16:38.47 Rather than using the wet sheet, 00:16:38.50\00:16:40.64 you can do what's called a blanket pack. 00:16:40.67\00:16:42.82 And what I'm going to do with this particular 00:16:42.85\00:16:44.79 treatment is lay my patient down... 00:16:44.82\00:16:49.42 First I would prepare the bed 00:16:49.45\00:16:51.00 and always prepare the bed before treatment begins 00:16:51.03\00:16:54.54 I'd put a blanket down longways 00:16:54.57\00:16:58.55 and a second blanket longways on the bed 00:16:58.58\00:17:01.69 And then I would lay the patient down in bed 00:17:01.72\00:17:07.77 and I would cover the patient with these blankets. 00:17:07.80\00:17:12.70 Now at the same time, 00:17:12.73\00:17:14.67 you can be adding what we call a "fomentation. " 00:17:14.70\00:17:17.79 And you can do a fomentation quite simply a home. 00:17:17.82\00:17:20.48 Just take a towel 00:17:20.51\00:17:22.08 and what I would do is I would put it in fourths, 00:17:22.11\00:17:25.86 dip it in hot water, 00:17:25.89\00:17:27.88 wring it out, 00:17:27.91\00:17:29.31 and then lay it over the first layer of the towel 00:17:29.34\00:17:33.65 over the blanket that's over the part of the person. 00:17:33.68\00:17:35.92 You want to have these things all the way up and down the legs 00:17:35.95\00:17:38.20 This sometimes takes for a full grown adult 00:17:38.23\00:17:40.39 12 different towels or fomentations 00:17:40.42\00:17:43.11 to give this heating effect. 00:17:43.14\00:17:45.27 And you don't want to put it right against the skin 00:17:45.30\00:17:47.65 because it should be as hot as you can make it. 00:17:47.68\00:17:49.99 So you put it against both legs, the abdomen, the chest 00:17:50.02\00:17:53.86 and the arms, 00:17:53.89\00:17:54.95 and then you wrap them up in these blankets. 00:17:54.98\00:17:56.97 Wrap them up like a mummy. 00:17:57.00\00:17:59.03 Wrap them up like a papoose. 00:17:59.06\00:18:00.57 Wrap them up like a dog in a blanket. 00:18:00.60\00:18:02.62 Or pig in a blanket... 00:18:02.65\00:18:03.65 whatever you want to call them... 00:18:03.68\00:18:04.88 and you put them there and this is going to start 00:18:04.91\00:18:07.42 causing the temperature to rise in the body. 00:18:07.45\00:18:09.92 Again, white blood cells are increased... 00:18:09.95\00:18:12.56 they become more voracious 00:18:12.59\00:18:14.09 they're a lot faster 00:18:14.12\00:18:15.18 and they're much more active 00:18:15.21\00:18:16.18 And this is what we need to fight our viruses. 00:18:16.21\00:18:19.62 You know, many times we go to the pharmacy or something 00:18:19.65\00:18:25.36 and get some type of antibiotics... 00:18:25.39\00:18:26.75 Antibiotics do not work against viruses. 00:18:26.78\00:18:29.27 But God's methods of hydrotherapy 00:18:29.30\00:18:31.87 do work quite nicely. 00:18:31.90\00:18:33.13 So, this is a simple treatment, 00:18:33.16\00:18:34.80 I've used it before on myself and used it on others 00:18:34.83\00:18:38.00 and we get some quite nice effects out of these 00:18:38.03\00:18:41.26 simple treatments, Dr. Thrash. 00:18:41.29\00:18:42.62 Yes, and we have patients who have smiley faces and not 00:18:42.65\00:18:46.44 frowny faces. 00:18:46.47\00:18:49.82 Herpes is a member of the virus family 00:18:49.85\00:18:52.56 and it itself is a large family. 00:18:52.59\00:18:55.61 The virus that causes chickenpox 00:18:55.64\00:18:58.51 and shingles is a member of that family. 00:18:58.54\00:19:00.93 But also the virus that causes fever blisters 00:19:00.96\00:19:04.44 and genital herpes is also a member of that family. 00:19:04.47\00:19:08.32 There are many others... several other members of that family 00:19:08.35\00:19:11.65 it's a fairly large family. 00:19:11.68\00:19:13.07 Now, when a person gets the herpes virus, 00:19:13.10\00:19:17.15 is there something that can be done? 00:19:17.18\00:19:20.63 One way that a person gets herpes infection 00:19:20.66\00:19:25.04 is herpangina. 00:19:25.07\00:19:28.60 It may start as a herpes infection, or it may be 00:19:28.63\00:19:31.82 a pain in the mouth that feels like a herpes infection. 00:19:31.85\00:19:38.44 The symptoms of herpangina which sounds like 00:19:38.47\00:19:44.45 a viral infection... 00:19:44.48\00:19:45.62 The treatment for it is hot mouth washes 00:19:45.65\00:19:49.22 and simple diet and sunshine exposure, 00:19:49.25\00:19:55.12 and keeping the mouth rinsed, as well as heat-treated. 00:19:55.15\00:20:00.76 And since it occurs in children, sometimes the mother has to 00:20:00.79\00:20:05.15 irrigate the mouth, instead of asking the cooperation 00:20:05.18\00:20:08.63 of the child. 00:20:08.66\00:20:09.63 The child will get swollen gums, bleeding gums, 00:20:09.66\00:20:13.84 and the teeth may become almost covered by the swollen gums. 00:20:13.87\00:20:19.48 And then, after the treatment is done, 00:20:19.51\00:20:22.84 the gums are just as sound as they ever were. 00:20:22.87\00:20:26.09 Now, a fever is a true herpes infection. 00:20:26.12\00:20:29.95 And it is associated with the deposition of the virus 00:20:29.98\00:20:35.99 in the tissues of the lip... 00:20:36.02\00:20:38.64 so wherever it strikes the person, 00:20:38.67\00:20:42.34 it generally lives there. 00:20:42.37\00:20:44.01 And it may live there for decades... 00:20:44.04\00:20:46.56 Unless for some reason, the person is able to throw it off. 00:20:46.59\00:20:50.11 One way that you can treat fever blisters is with cayenne pepper. 00:20:50.14\00:20:55.24 Just mix up some cayenne with alcohol 00:20:55.27\00:20:58.29 and dab it on the area where you have the fever blister. 00:20:58.32\00:21:02.62 You can expect that it will burn intensely for about 15 minutes. 00:21:02.65\00:21:07.29 But then, if you're successful, 00:21:07.32\00:21:09.64 it will be very helpful in getting rid of that herpes 00:21:09.67\00:21:14.15 infection on the lips. 00:21:14.18\00:21:17.65 L- lysine can also be used to treat a viral infection, 00:21:17.68\00:21:22.77 and hot baths can also be used to treat a viral infection. 00:21:22.80\00:21:27.00 So as we learn these various treatments for an infection, 00:21:27.03\00:21:33.26 we can be armed against them. 00:21:33.29\00:21:36.08 Now, the next thing that I would like to present to you 00:21:36.11\00:21:39.63 is that of heating compresses. 00:21:39.66\00:21:41.28 And John Champen is going to talk with you about 00:21:41.31\00:21:45.07 heating compresses. 00:21:45.10\00:21:46.12 And the heating compresses can be applied in many areas. 00:21:46.15\00:21:50.87 And, here you come with a number... 00:21:50.90\00:21:53.64 So, I'd like to see how you put these on. 00:21:53.67\00:21:56.60 Thank you. 00:21:56.63\00:21:58.70 Heating compresses, you might think that we put on something 00:21:58.73\00:22:02.52 hot but we don't. 00:22:02.55\00:22:04.04 We put on something that's cold. 00:22:04.07\00:22:05.81 Melissa is going to be my subject. 00:22:05.84\00:22:07.56 We're going to take this cloth and put it in cold water 00:22:07.59\00:22:13.13 or ice water. 00:22:13.16\00:22:14.13 It is wrung out where it's not completely dry, 00:22:14.14\00:22:18.17 but it is fairly dry. 00:22:18.20\00:22:22.06 This goes on... this is going to be for her neck. 00:22:22.09\00:22:25.83 All right, what this does is, 00:22:34.30\00:22:35.27 of course, it causes 00:22:35.29\00:22:36.26 the blood vessels to constrict... 00:22:36.29\00:22:37.26 and... 00:22:39.80\00:22:40.80 while they're constricting, 00:22:46.93\00:22:48.55 the body is saying, "Well, we can't have that, 00:22:48.58\00:22:52.70 we've got to heat this place up. " 00:22:52.73\00:22:54.95 And so what it does, 00:22:54.98\00:22:57.13 it begins to heat up this area 00:22:57.16\00:23:03.95 Now, first cloth goes on... it's dipped in ice water 00:23:03.98\00:23:08.33 or cold water and then it's wrung out and placed on the neck 00:23:08.36\00:23:13.26 Then it's covered with the plastic. 00:23:13.29\00:23:15.13 The plastic should cover the entire area. 00:23:15.16\00:23:18.90 And then above that, I'm going to use a sock 00:23:18.93\00:23:24.22 which is something that you have in your home 00:23:24.25\00:23:28.71 All right... and that will cover the heating compress. 00:23:28.74\00:23:35.99 Now this can be slept in very comfortably 00:23:36.02\00:23:39.17 for a person that has a sore throat... 00:23:39.20\00:23:43.25 and it is pinned. 00:23:43.28\00:23:49.85 This is a heating compress. 00:23:49.88\00:23:51.37 The body will begin to heat this up 00:23:51.40\00:23:54.76 and as it heats it up, 00:23:54.79\00:23:57.47 there's more blood drawn to the area 00:23:57.50\00:23:59.38 and the sore throat that she has, will begin to go away. 00:23:59.41\00:24:03.36 It's not uncommon that in the morning 00:24:03.39\00:24:05.47 when she takes this off, 00:24:05.50\00:24:06.58 and then takes a little mitten 00:24:06.61\00:24:14.78 in the morning, it should be very warm 00:24:14.81\00:24:17.37 and then rub the area very briskly 00:24:17.40\00:24:20.74 and then dry it off so that the pores can be closed. 00:24:20.77\00:24:24.08 This simple procedure is very effective. 00:24:24.11\00:24:26.97 Thank you, Melissa. 00:24:27.00\00:24:29.16 Now, if the person has a cold, 00:24:29.19\00:24:31.75 and they like to work with their feet, 00:24:31.78\00:24:37.76 they may have cold feet... 00:24:37.79\00:24:39.42 the same thing can be done. 00:24:39.45\00:24:41.18 You can take a very thin, cotton sock, 00:24:41.21\00:24:43.53 and do exactly the same thing that you did for the throat, 00:24:43.56\00:24:46.84 you can do it for the foot. 00:24:46.87\00:24:48.19 You would take this, dip it in ice water, 00:24:48.22\00:24:50.87 wring it out, place it over the foot... 00:24:50.90\00:24:54.43 When you do the feet though, you'd like to do both of them. 00:24:54.46\00:24:57.02 One on each foot... 00:24:57.05\00:24:58.71 then you would take a plastic bag 00:24:58.74\00:25:02.13 and put the foot into the plastic bag, 00:25:02.16\00:25:04.89 cover it completely, 00:25:04.92\00:25:07.15 and then put a heavy sock over that... 00:25:07.18\00:25:10.19 So you wind up with 3 layers... 00:25:10.22\00:25:12.88 the cold wet one, 00:25:12.91\00:25:15.13 the plastic 00:25:15.16\00:25:17.94 which the foot goes in 00:25:17.97\00:25:19.52 and then that goes inside here. 00:25:19.55\00:25:23.69 And again, you have exactly the same thing 00:25:23.72\00:25:26.17 that you had for the throat. 00:25:26.20\00:25:27.92 The feet would warm up during the night... 00:25:27.95\00:25:29.63 they would feel chilly initially 00:25:29.66\00:25:31.07 but then they'd warm up 00:25:31.10\00:25:32.12 and the person would feel very well in the morning. 00:25:32.15\00:25:36.23 Now, you might have congestion in your chest, 00:25:36.26\00:25:39.01 in this area... 00:25:39.04\00:25:40.34 you could use a band if it was for the abdomen area; " 00:27:13.26\00:27:14.23 And they simply refuse it. 00:27:14.25\00:27:15.76 And I think about what happened in the Bible... 00:27:15.79\00:27:18.87 when THE remedy for the bite of those serpents was 00:27:18.90\00:27:23.33 given to the people... 00:27:23.36\00:27:26.35 The brass serpent was raised up on the pole, 00:27:26.38\00:27:30.17 and the only thing that the sick Israelite had to do 00:27:30.20\00:27:34.64 was to look up on that pole 00:27:34.67\00:27:37.74 and see that brass serpent 00:27:37.77\00:27:39.96 and they would be healed 00:27:39.99\00:27:43.08 but many of them refused to do it and died of their 00:27:43.11\00:27:46.70 affliction. 00:27:46.73\00:27:47.70 Don't sell these simple remedies short. 00:27:47.71\00:27:50.15 They are very effective, 00:27:50.18\00:27:51.94 and I would like to encourage you to learn how to do them. 00:27:51.97\00:27:54.66 You will enjoy them. 00:27:54.69\00:27:55.66
