Hello! 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 I'm Agatha Thrash, a staff physician from Uchee Pines 00:00:02.96\00:00:05.57 Institute, which is a medical missionary training institute. 00:00:05.60\00:00:09.49 There we teach remedies. 00:00:09.52\00:00:12.44 My very favorite remedy is charcoal. 00:00:12.56\00:00:15.00 It's such a favorite that my husband and I wrote a whole 00:00:15.38\00:00:19.16 book, devoted to that very subject of charcoal, so during 00:00:19.19\00:00:23.39 the next half an hour, we will be discussing that so if you 00:00:23.42\00:00:25.59 would like to stay by and join us I think that you will enjoy 00:00:25.62\00:00:27.89 learning about charcoal. 00:00:27.92\00:00:29.32 Welcome to Help Yourself to Health with Dr. Agatha Thrash 00:00:49.45\00:00:53.53 of Uchee Pines Institute, and now here's your host 00:00:53.56\00:00:57.17 Dr. Thrash. 00:00:57.20\00:00:58.88 Charcoal has so many good properties about it, that you 00:00:58.91\00:01:05.02 can use it for so many different things. 00:01:05.05\00:01:06.98 You can use it internally, you can use it externallly, you 00:01:07.01\00:01:11.48 can use it in your rooms and in the air. 00:01:11.51\00:01:13.82 It's a very good remedy, its a very good substance for us to 00:01:13.85\00:01:18.44 use in a lot of ways, and with me today is Don Miller 00:01:18.47\00:01:24.41 and a little later will be John Champen to help me to 00:01:24.44\00:01:29.27 present the various qualities and faculties, and our 00:01:29.30\00:01:32.42 experiences with charcoal and now Don Miller will talk with 00:01:32.45\00:01:36.39 you about his experience with charcoal. 00:01:36.42\00:01:39.28 You know one of my favorite things with charcoal and you can 00:01:39.31\00:01:43.39 use it in so many ways, we could not even enumerate them 00:01:43.42\00:01:46.35 all in one program, or ten programs. 00:01:46.38\00:01:48.52 But a number of years ago after I had learned about the 00:01:48.55\00:01:52.13 wonderful miracle working propreties, and I do use the 00:01:52.16\00:01:54.98 word miracle, because it does work miracles as far as I'm 00:01:55.01\00:01:59.51 concerned, was when I had gotten out of the Marine Corp and moved 00:01:59.54\00:02:01.98 to my farm in Missouri, and when I got there I decided hmm! I 00:02:02.01\00:02:05.90 want to have some horses, now I wasn't familiar with buying 00:02:05.93\00:02:08.16 horses I didn't learn that in college, didn't learn that in 00:02:08.19\00:02:10.13 the Marine Corp, but I did want to buy some horses, and so I 00:02:10.16\00:02:14.04 bought three horses, and I thought I had enough horses, but 00:02:14.07\00:02:17.23 then I got a phone call one night from a man saying look 00:02:17.26\00:02:19.58 I've got another horse I would like to sell you. 00:02:19.61\00:02:21.95 We had already bought one horse from this man, and he said I 00:02:21.98\00:02:25.58 want to sell you another horse. 00:02:25.61\00:02:26.84 I said, well I really don't want any more horses 00:02:26.87\00:02:29.11 He said well I'll make you a good deal, and I said I don't 00:02:29.28\00:02:31.20 care how good the deal is. 00:02:31.23\00:02:32.32 I don't want your horse. 00:02:32.35\00:02:33.57 He said, well I will tell you what I will do, I'll give you 00:02:33.60\00:02:36.79 the saddle, and the bridle, and the blanket, and the horse 00:02:36.82\00:02:40.19 and I will deliver it all for twenty five dollars, 00:02:40.22\00:02:42.36 and I said "SOLD" 00:02:42.41\00:02:43.92 I never heard that thing, "You never buy a horse unseen," 00:02:43.95\00:02:47.57 and so the man delivered the horse one day, and he backed up 00:02:47.60\00:02:52.68 his trailer to my gate around my yard, on my farm, and the 00:02:52.71\00:02:56.85 horse was backing down this walkway, and it looked pretty 00:02:56.88\00:02:59.57 good until he turned it around, and that was the worse looking 00:02:59.60\00:03:03.35 horse that I had ever seen. 00:03:03.38\00:03:04.75 One side of his face was nothing but puss, plus you couldn't see 00:03:04.78\00:03:08.44 the eye, it looked miserable, and I thought, Uhh! I'm going to 00:03:08.47\00:03:12.09 dig a deep hole for this poor thing and bury it. 00:03:12.12\00:03:14.22 then I decided well "no", I learned about charcoal, I had 00:03:14.25\00:03:18.59 been to Uchee Pines for a seminar, so I decided to use 00:03:18.62\00:03:21.19 charcoal on my horse. 00:03:21.22\00:03:22.49 I had to use it two ways, I was going to use it 00:03:22.52\00:03:25.33 internally and externally. 00:03:25.36\00:03:27.25 Now how do you feed a horse charcoal? 00:03:27.28\00:03:28.55 It was quite easy. 00:03:28.58\00:03:29.66 I took a big stainless steel bowl, put some charcoal in it 00:03:29.69\00:03:32.94 put some flax seed in it, ground flax seed which Brother 00:03:32.97\00:03:35.53 Champen will be talking about, added some water, chopped up an 00:03:35.56\00:03:38.68 apple, and some turbinado sugar, and it would mix it all up and 00:03:38.71\00:03:41.83 I would roll it in these big black horse jelly beans, and the 00:03:41.86\00:03:47.15 horse loved the things. 00:03:47.18\00:03:48.19 Then I made up some charcoal poultice material, which 00:03:48.22\00:03:50.93 Brother Champen will be talking about, made up a big poultice 00:03:50.96\00:03:53.75 and just slapped in on that horses eye, and tied it on with 00:03:53.78\00:03:57.31 a sock, and I did that every day for that horse. 00:03:57.34\00:04:00.86 Within a couple of months, that horse was completely clean, 00:04:00.89\00:04:04.26 completely clear. 00:04:04.29\00:04:05.56 His eye was healed, it was not blind in the eye. 00:04:05.59\00:04:08.74 It had no evidence whatsoever that anything had been wrong 00:04:08.77\00:04:12.05 with that horse, 00:04:12.08\00:04:13.05 and another nice thing was the horse surprised me. 00:04:13.06\00:04:16.39 I don't think I even knew it was a female horse, but it was 00:04:16.71\00:04:18.64 a female horse, and the horse had a baby horse, a foal 00:04:18.67\00:04:21.79 and it was in perfect health, in perfect shape, so I just 00:04:21.82\00:04:24.46 think, that God has given us something like charcoal to 00:04:24.49\00:04:28.12 surprise us with the marvelous working powers of it, and I'm 00:04:28.15\00:04:31.91 thankful for charcoal. 00:04:31.95\00:04:33.39 Dr. Thrash, I know you've had lots of experience with 00:04:33.43\00:04:36.03 charcoal. Yes, I've had quite a lot of experience with charcoal, 00:04:36.06\00:04:39.45 and I enjoy what I know about charcoal, 00:04:39.49\00:04:42.56 but I'm constantly learning more things. 00:04:42.63\00:04:45.09 The charcoal itself is a little granule, the individual parts 00:04:45.12\00:04:53.41 are just little granules, like this. 00:04:53.44\00:04:55.22 These individual granules are interesting because they have 00:04:55.25\00:05:01.01 little crevices, which you can see here. 00:05:01.04\00:05:02.99 You can see how these little holes and little canals, all 00:05:03.02\00:05:08.12 of these little indentations around in the charcoal granule 00:05:08.15\00:05:11.91 All of these can take up poisonous substances, and indeed 00:05:11.94\00:05:16.55 will take up poisonous substances all manner of them. 00:05:16.58\00:05:20.82 In fact a number of articles have been written in a medical 00:05:20.85\00:05:25.05 journal, such as these that I am holding here. 00:05:25.08\00:05:27.07 This one was published in the very prestigious journal called 00:05:27.10\00:05:31.04 Pediatrics, just in 2001. 00:05:31.08\00:05:34.49 Researchers had done a big experiment on many, many 00:05:34.52\00:05:40.29 children, over a thousand children who had gotten poisoned 00:05:40.32\00:05:43.92 in the home, and what they had thought was instead of 00:05:43.95\00:05:48.42 having all children who were poisoned in the home, 00:05:48.45\00:05:51.25 transported to an emergency facility, why not have parents 00:05:51.28\00:05:55.58 have charcoal in the home, so that when a child is poisoned 00:05:55.61\00:06:01.26 they can simply administer it themselves. 00:06:01.29\00:06:03.47 So they began a campaign in this area in Connecticut, and 00:06:03.50\00:06:07.93 invited all parents to have charcoal in their homes in the 00:06:07.96\00:06:12.33 medicine cabinet all ready. 00:06:12.36\00:06:13.68 So they found that, in sixty minutes or less they could 00:06:13.71\00:06:20.02 have a poisoned child or a child who had taken something that you 00:06:20.05\00:06:23.78 weren't certain was poisonous, they could have the child 00:06:23.81\00:06:27.23 with their dose of charcoal already within sixty minutes 00:06:27.26\00:06:31.64 or less, and that almost never happened in the hospital, it was 00:06:31.67\00:06:38.37 less than a third of the cases that came to the hospital that 00:06:38.40\00:06:41.73 were going to have the charcoal administered 00:06:41.76\00:06:43.47 in thirty minutes or less, 00:06:43.78\00:06:45.14 whereas more than ninety percent of those 00:06:45.22\00:06:47.78 who could get the charcoal administered in the home, would 00:06:47.81\00:06:51.72 have the charcoal in a half an hour, in less than an hour. 00:06:51.75\00:06:55.57 Now a concern over proper administration of the charcoal 00:06:55.60\00:07:01.40 by parents was also very big in the minds of physicians, 00:07:01.43\00:07:06.85 and I think generally we feel that parents are going to be 00:07:06.88\00:07:12.98 a little bit backward in being able to administer treatments 00:07:13.01\00:07:17.27 in the home, but as we have had more and more experience 00:07:17.30\00:07:20.69 in dealing with parents, we find that they are fully as capable 00:07:20.76\00:07:25.67 as nurses and doctors to administer a simple treatment 00:07:25.71\00:07:30.91 like charcoal in the home. 00:07:30.94\00:07:32.56 So we recommend now to everybody that they have charcoal in their 00:07:32.59\00:07:37.08 medicine cabinets at all times. 00:07:37.11\00:07:39.09 When you have an emergency that is not the time to try call 00:07:39.12\00:07:42.83 around and see where you can find it. 00:07:42.86\00:07:45.18 Now we speak of activated charcoal. 00:07:45.21\00:07:48.87 Activated charcoal is different from just regular charcoal. 00:07:48.90\00:07:53.16 Regular charcoal is something similar to what I have here. 00:07:53.19\00:07:57.03 Here I have some partly ashed, and partly charred wood that 00:07:57.06\00:08:03.78 came from a fireplace, and you can use this in a pinch. 00:08:03.81\00:08:07.91 Just take some of these dark pieces and crush them up with 00:08:07.94\00:08:12.04 a hammer and a cloth towel or crush them with a fork if 00:08:12.07\00:08:19.11 they are soft enough, and you will get some benefit 00:08:19.14\00:08:21.92 from that, but not a lot. 00:08:21.95\00:08:23.71 What you get the most from is the activated charcoal. 00:08:23.74\00:08:27.69 The activated charcoal has been specially processed in a factory 00:08:27.72\00:08:32.15 where steam and pressure are used to clear the ash away from 00:08:32.18\00:08:38.44 the little granules, with the little crevices, so that ash 00:08:38.47\00:08:42.08 is cleared away, and the activated charcoal is 00:08:42.11\00:08:45.44 at least twice if not three times as 00:08:45.67\00:08:47.80 effective as the regular charcoal. 00:08:47.98\00:08:50.97 So you can see that it is important for you to use that 00:08:51.00\00:08:54.84 if you can, and as to how to administer it, we can teach 00:08:54.87\00:09:00.44 a parent to give the child the charcoal 00:09:00.47\00:09:03.46 by mouth in several ways. 00:09:03.49\00:09:05.45 One way is to stir it up in a glass, 00:09:05.48\00:09:07.89 and put a straw in it 00:09:07.93\00:09:09.72 and let them drink it. 00:09:09.75\00:09:10.82 Now some will say well, my child won't drink 00:09:10.85\00:09:13.88 that black mixture, and that may be true. 00:09:14.07\00:09:17.77 If you can't get the child to take the 00:09:17.80\00:09:20.93 the charcoal when its mixed up in water, call 00:09:20.96\00:09:24.09 grandmother, because grandmothers know how to get 00:09:24.12\00:09:27.25 a child to take something that they don't want to take. 00:09:27.28\00:09:30.23 In fact that has been shown in homes where there is a 00:09:30.26\00:09:36.54 grandparent, there are fewer visits to the physicians, than 00:09:36.57\00:09:40.92 in homes where there is no grandmother available, so you 00:09:40.95\00:09:44.18 are very fortunate if you have a grandmother, and she can get 00:09:44.21\00:09:46.76 the child to take the activated charcoal. 00:09:46.79\00:09:49.20 This can be a great help to you to know in your very own 00:09:49.23\00:09:54.15 home, you can be prepared to meet emergencies. 00:09:54.18\00:09:57.53 Now we use charcoal inside the body and outside the body, 00:09:57.56\00:10:01.20 and John Champen who is with me here, John Champen 00:10:01.23\00:10:05.34 is a health educator at Uchee Pines, and one of our 00:10:05.37\00:10:09.25 instructors there, and he is going to tell you some about 00:10:09.28\00:10:12.85 his experience in mixing up charcoal. 00:10:12.88\00:10:15.34 Charcoal is a very wonderful substance that has been 00:10:15.37\00:10:20.05 provided for us, and you can get it all over the world. 00:10:20.08\00:10:23.55 Today I'm going to show you 00:10:23.58\00:10:25.79 a little bit about how we mix charcoal. 00:10:25.82\00:10:28.22 Here we have two on our table, we have two glasses, 00:10:28.85\00:10:38.08 this one charcoal has already been mixed in, 00:10:38.11\00:10:41.63 and this one I'm just about to mix the charcaol in. 00:10:41.73\00:10:43.30 This one that has already been mixed in now settling 00:10:43.33\00:10:47.36 to the bottom, this is what we call our slurry water. 00:10:47.39\00:10:50.63 That's for those who have difficulty taking the 00:10:50.66\00:10:53.72 charcoal, or think they might have difficulty taking 00:10:53.75\00:10:56.49 This will eventually settle out, precipitate out to the 00:10:56.52\00:10:59.66 bottom, and will be relatively clear. 00:10:59.69\00:11:01.50 Those who have difficulty 00:11:01.53\00:11:03.52 might be more inclined to take it that way. 00:11:03.59\00:11:06.68 Now its very interesting in mixing charcoal its a very 00:11:06.71\00:11:10.29 fine powder, and if you don't whatch it, it will fly all over 00:11:10.32\00:11:12.91 everything, and get into everything. 00:11:12.94\00:11:16.17 It doesn't come out of garments very easily, 00:11:16.20\00:11:19.08 so it needs to be mixed very, very gently. 00:11:19.11\00:11:23.41 One tablespoon of charcoal per glass is about enough, 00:11:23.44\00:11:28.83 that's the recommended dosage. 00:11:28.86\00:11:30.61 This will take a little while to mix in, but when it 00:11:30.64\00:11:51.33 mixes in, it can be taken with a straw or it can 00:11:51.36\00:11:54.81 be drunk directly, and it works very very quickly. 00:11:54.84\00:12:01.37 There are no known problems with charcoal, 00:12:01.40\00:12:07.78 except that some people 00:12:07.81\00:12:08.93 might find it a little bit constipating, 00:12:08.98\00:12:10.79 and for those who might find 00:12:10.88\00:12:12.47 that to be their case, 00:12:12.50\00:12:13.95 what we advise then that the person 00:12:13.98\00:12:19.35 take alot of water with it. 00:12:19.45\00:12:24.85 Water and charcoal is all that is needed, now every 00:12:24.88\00:12:31.40 medicine cabinet as Dr. Thrash says should have that. 00:12:31.43\00:12:35.14 I keep this in my medicine cabinet, 00:12:35.24\00:12:36.21 it is excellent for bad breath 00:12:36.22\00:12:38.04 it is excellent for gas, 00:12:38.24\00:12:39.21 its excellent for upset stomach. 00:12:39.27\00:12:42.22 If a person has diarrhea, it helps quite a lot, 00:12:42.27\00:12:46.62 it checks diarrhea very, very quickly, 00:12:46.65\00:12:48.21 one tablespoon is all that is needed. 00:12:48.30\00:12:51.67 We've done experiments, and we've had guests who had gas, 00:12:51.70\00:12:59.39 or upset stomach, and we give them a little dose of charcoal 00:12:59.42\00:13:03.70 like this, and it doesn't have any taste, it tends to be 00:13:03.73\00:13:08.13 a little bit grainy, but thats all. 00:13:08.16\00:13:10.27 There is nothing in here that can harm you. 00:13:10.30\00:13:13.42 It goes through the system and it binds the toxins, 00:13:13.45\00:13:17.42 It binds those things that are in the system and it will 00:13:17.45\00:13:22.80 even take out a lot of chemicals from your system, 00:13:22.83\00:13:25.47 to clean the system on the inside. 00:13:25.50\00:13:27.53 It goes directly through the GI track and comes out. 00:13:27.56\00:13:37.49 Dr. Thrash, that's how it is done on the inside. 00:13:37.52\00:13:43.58 Yes! 00:13:43.61\00:13:44.58 That's a very good thing. 00:13:44.59\00:13:47.66 You know another way that I have mixed it up cause as 00:13:47.69\00:13:51.05 you say, it is a little difficult to get it to mix 00:13:51.08\00:13:53.76 into solution. 00:13:53.79\00:13:54.76 Sometimes I will put it in a jar, with the water, and just 00:13:54.77\00:13:59.12 shake it like this, and it goes in alot better, then you can 00:13:59.15\00:14:02.35 just put the, without pouring it out 00:14:02.38\00:14:05.04 I noticed how very carefully you transferred it from the little 00:14:05.07\00:14:10.34 container, into the glass, because that's most important 00:14:10.37\00:14:14.78 for people to know, and you don't use your white suit 00:14:14.81\00:14:19.04 when you are mixing it up the first time. 00:14:19.07\00:14:20.66 No! Not at all, not at all. 00:14:20.69\00:14:23.95 Now it's also used outside the body. 00:14:23.98\00:14:27.85 Outside the body its used in a poltice, and we're going 00:14:27.88\00:14:31.79 demonstrate that poultice a little bit later on Dr. 00:14:31.82\00:14:35.12 Thrash. Alright, very good. 00:14:35.15\00:14:36.26 Well I'd like to talk with you a bit more about some of the 00:14:36.29\00:14:39.98 properties of charcoal. 00:14:40.01\00:14:41.25 One is that it is inert, inside the human body, 00:14:41.28\00:14:46.15 and so you don't have to expect that it is 00:14:46.21\00:14:48.88 going to do you some harm if you overdose, 00:14:48.91\00:14:51.38 in fact overdosing on charcoal is almost impossible. 00:14:51.42\00:14:55.15 It does tend to make the bowels a little bit slow, or sluggish. 00:14:55.18\00:14:59.46 Some people feel that if they took to much, it would actually 00:14:59.49\00:15:02.41 cause them to have a binding up of the bowel, 00:15:02.44\00:15:05.20 but that really isn't true. 00:15:05.30\00:15:07.09 If you drink enough water it will pass through, 00:15:07.12\00:15:09.81 even though it may be a little bit sluggish. 00:15:09.87\00:15:11.60 The reason for its being sluggish is that it attaches 00:15:11.68\00:15:15.22 to the mucous in the bowel, 00:15:15.25\00:15:18.03 and that makes it move more slowly through the bowel, 00:15:18.12\00:15:20.62 but that isnt a great problem to you 00:15:20.65\00:15:23.37 if you simply work with it, 00:15:23.43\00:15:26.30 with a lot of water and sometimes 00:15:26.35\00:15:28.12 an enema might also be 00:15:28.15\00:15:30.52 necessary. Now the slurry water, that John Champen was talking 00:15:30.55\00:15:35.90 with you about, when the black part falls down to the bottom, 00:15:35.93\00:15:39.65 you could see that it was turning gray already up at the 00:15:39.68\00:15:42.98 top part, it will eventually be almost clear. 00:15:43.01\00:15:46.79 But there are some submicroscopic particles 00:15:46.82\00:15:51.06 that are suspended in the water and that does do some good 00:15:51.09\00:15:56.03 for you, as you take it and it is passed through the 00:15:56.06\00:16:00.04 intestinal track. 00:16:00.07\00:16:01.06 When you take it internally, it acts sort of like a little 00:16:01.12\00:16:05.00 mini dialysis, and its not going to cause you a great problem. 00:16:05.03\00:16:09.35 Now as to how to get a child to take it, 00:16:09.38\00:16:13.01 another suggestion, 00:16:13.08\00:16:15.11 I really hope you don't have one of these on hand in your 00:16:15.17\00:16:18.08 household, but if you should have a a chocolate container 00:16:18.15\00:16:21.50 In your, I hope your children don't 00:16:21.53\00:16:23.54 drink chocolate, because its not a good drink for them. 00:16:23.57\00:16:26.19 It's to much sugar, its to much of various things. 00:16:26.25\00:16:28.40 But if you should have a 00:16:28.43\00:16:31.02 chocolate container in your 00:16:31.05\00:16:33.38 home, Pour the charcoal water in there, put a straw in it 00:16:33.41\00:16:36.83 and invite your child to drink. 00:16:36.86\00:16:38.80 You can tell them drink it fast! 00:16:38.83\00:16:40.63 And as they follow your instructions, they 00:16:40.66\00:16:42.85 will get alot of it down. 00:16:42.88\00:16:43.99 Now for a child, don't make up a large quantity 00:16:44.02\00:16:47.10 like John Champen did for an adult dose. 00:16:47.13\00:16:50.04 Just make up a small amount, 00:16:50.07\00:16:51.84 but you still use a tablespoonful 00:16:51.87\00:16:53.91 because chances are, 00:16:53.94\00:16:54.97 you're not going to get it all down 00:16:55.07\00:16:56.22 for the child, so you want to make it fairly thick 00:16:56.37\00:16:59.07 and have him drink it as quickly as you can. 00:16:59.10\00:17:01.30 You can even mask it, 00:17:01.33\00:17:02.53 so its got a little flavor to it. 00:17:02.56\00:17:05.67 It actually doesn't have any flavor. 00:17:05.70\00:17:07.64 It just feels a little gritty in the mouth 00:17:07.67\00:17:10.41 So you can mask that a little bit by putting 00:17:10.44\00:17:13.80 some kind of flavoring, or maybe just 00:17:13.83\00:17:15.59 a little bit of honey with it, but not very much. 00:17:15.62\00:17:18.41 Because sometimes, something that you might put with it 00:17:18.44\00:17:21.02 might encourage absorbtion of some poison 00:17:21.05\00:17:23.61 that the child might have taken. 00:17:23.64\00:17:25.68 Now so far as overdosing with charcoal 00:17:25.71\00:17:30.73 Some people think that it's going to 00:17:30.76\00:17:33.00 take up their nutrients. 00:17:33.03\00:17:34.01 If they use alot of it, 00:17:34.04\00:17:38.00 but, actually interestingly enough 00:17:38.03\00:17:41.35 and for reasons which we do not understand 00:17:41.38\00:17:43.70 at all from the standpoint of physics and chemistry. 00:17:43.73\00:17:45.88 The charcoal granule does not take up nutrients 00:17:45.91\00:17:50.23 well at all, and therefore a person 00:17:50.26\00:17:52.73 who has been poisoned by, lets say 00:17:52.76\00:17:54.93 iron pills or vitamin pills, or zinc pills 00:17:54.96\00:17:59.24 They can just about forget about charcoal 00:17:59.27\00:18:01.17 its not going to be very helpful, 00:18:01.20\00:18:02.18 because it doesn't take up these nutrient substances. 00:18:02.21\00:18:06.91 So it will not give you a long term 00:18:06.94\00:18:10.30 malnutrition, if you take charcoal on a regular 00:18:10.33\00:18:14.17 basis. One of the best ways that we use it is 00:18:14.20\00:18:18.10 externally, and of course we could talk with 00:18:18.13\00:18:20.70 you about charcoal stories, and how 00:18:20.73\00:18:23.43 we have used charcoal both inside the body 00:18:23.46\00:18:25.70 and outside the body. 00:18:25.73\00:18:26.73 We could talk with you the rest of the year 00:18:26.76\00:18:29.56 on that, and probably not adequately cover the subject. 00:18:29.59\00:18:33.04 But now Don Miller is going to show you 00:18:33.07\00:18:36.14 some of the ways that we can use it externally 00:18:36.17\00:18:40.14 One of the scary things that people 00:18:40.17\00:18:43.76 worry about in their homes is 00:18:43.79\00:18:45.83 the insects that they might have 00:18:45.86\00:18:47.76 in their homes. 00:18:47.85\00:18:48.82 And one insect that I discovered 00:18:48.83\00:18:51.13 for the first time, saw it for myself 00:18:51.16\00:18:53.37 was in the sink when I was 00:18:53.40\00:18:54.37 going to graduate school 00:18:54.38\00:18:55.35 in the University of Oklahoma, 00:18:55.36\00:18:56.33 was the Brown Recluse spider. 00:18:56.34\00:18:57.83 Everyone is worried about that Brown Recluse spider 00:18:57.86\00:19:00.92 and they are pretty nasty. 00:19:00.95\00:19:02.95 When they bite you they cause necrotic tissue, 00:19:02.98\00:19:06.05 it can go right down to the bone 00:19:06.08\00:19:07.40 and it seems it just does not heal 00:19:07.43\00:19:10.22 While we were on a tour one time 00:19:10.25\00:19:12.57 we are out in California 00:19:12.60\00:19:13.58 and a man came to our booth where we were 00:19:13.61\00:19:16.65 displaying some of our materials 00:19:16.68\00:19:18.35 and he says, he told us I got bit 00:19:18.38\00:19:21.12 I got bit by a Brown Recluse spider 00:19:21.15\00:19:22.95 I think it was in January 00:19:22.98\00:19:25.32 and this was about June when he told us this 00:19:25.35\00:19:27.10 and I says really and he said yes, and I kept 00:19:27.13\00:19:30.69 the scrapbook about my bite 00:19:30.72\00:19:32.74 He had this big scrapbook full of pictures 00:19:32.77\00:19:36.11 They didn't really identify it as 00:19:36.14\00:19:39.07 a Brown Recluse spider bite for about three weeks. 00:19:39.10\00:19:41.22 So for three weeks there was no 00:19:41.25\00:19:42.51 treatment at all. 00:19:42.54\00:19:43.51 By the time this three weeks had elapsed 00:19:43.52\00:19:46.51 he had ulcers all up and down his leg. 00:19:46.54\00:19:49.39 It wasn't just the one, it seemed to 00:19:49.42\00:19:51.28 have traveled through his bloodstream 00:19:51.31\00:19:52.73 and he had ulcers all up and down his leg. 00:19:52.76\00:19:55.37 Well, they started using Charcoal poultices 00:19:55.40\00:19:57.93 which brother Champen will tell you how to do 00:19:57.96\00:19:59.77 but they had just not applied a poultice 00:19:59.80\00:20:02.30 on this one, and a poultice on this one 00:20:02.33\00:20:03.73 they made entire leg poultices, 00:20:03.76\00:20:06.65 from his ankle to his hip 00:20:06.68\00:20:08.42 he had these large charcoal poultices 00:20:08.45\00:20:10.88 and every two or three days, 00:20:10.91\00:20:12.65 they took a picture of the leg. 00:20:12.68\00:20:14.51 I'll tell you what, the first few days 00:20:14.54\00:20:16.15 and the first few weeks, 00:20:16.18\00:20:17.15 and the first couple months 00:20:17.17\00:20:18.28 that leg looked meat. 00:20:18.31\00:20:20.49 It was a bad looking leg 00:20:20.52\00:20:22.01 these large ulcers and very angry looking 00:20:22.04\00:20:25.81 an necrotic tissue going on down. 00:20:25.84\00:20:28.18 But slowly they started healing over, 00:20:28.21\00:20:31.03 and healing over, until finally 00:20:31.06\00:20:32.95 the last few pictures, 00:20:32.98\00:20:33.95 there were still some wounds there 00:20:33.96\00:20:35.69 it wasn't that bad, well here it was 00:20:35.72\00:20:37.67 I think he took the pictures until June 00:20:37.70\00:20:40.46 this must have been July 00:20:40.49\00:20:41.46 I says well let me see your leg. 00:20:41.47\00:20:42.61 So right there in this booth area 00:20:42.64\00:20:45.08 all the people around he hiked up his pant leg 00:20:45.11\00:20:47.19 On his leg he had a few little brown patches 00:20:47.22\00:20:50.44 No wounds, no necrotic tissue 00:20:50.47\00:20:53.32 no holes down through the bone, 00:20:53.35\00:20:54.93 no amputations, just nice flesh 00:20:54.96\00:20:58.50 with a little bit of discoloration 00:20:58.53\00:21:00.30 which will probably eventually go away to. 00:21:00.33\00:21:02.29 Brown Recluse spider you don't use antibiotics 00:21:02.32\00:21:06.11 Cutting away the tissue 00:21:06.14\00:21:08.13 is not the way we should not do. 00:21:08.16\00:21:09.37 Just take charcoal and pack 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.98 it into the wound if you have to. 00:21:12.01\00:21:13.14 If it tatoos your skin. 00:21:13.17\00:21:14.57 Does it really make a difference 00:21:14.60\00:21:15.86 I'd rather have tatooed skin 00:21:15.89\00:21:17.52 than to have my skin cut away by a surgeons knife 00:21:17.55\00:21:21.30 because they can't figure any other way to treat it. 00:21:21.33\00:21:24.06 So, use God's simple ways 00:21:24.09\00:21:26.91 and I'm sure we will get rewards from that. 00:21:26.94\00:21:30.92 The horse, this man's leg 00:21:30.95\00:21:33.12 there's all kinds of ways to use it. 00:21:33.15\00:21:34.52 Oh yes, and all sorts of situations 00:21:34.55\00:21:36.60 to use it in to. 00:21:36.63\00:21:37.71 As we think about the many, many 00:21:37.74\00:21:41.13 ways that charcoal can be used 00:21:41.16\00:21:43.21 I'd like us to study some things 00:21:43.24\00:21:45.90 about how charcoal can be used in poultices 00:21:45.93\00:21:49.30 or compresses in the body. 00:21:49.33\00:21:50.73 Compresses represent one of our primary ways 00:21:50.76\00:21:55.82 of treating the skin, and John Champen 00:21:55.85\00:21:58.38 is going to show you now just how to make a poultice 00:21:58.41\00:22:02.49 and how to apply it. 00:22:02.53\00:22:03.53 Thank you! 00:22:03.56\00:22:04.63 We're going to be making a poultice here 00:22:04.66\00:22:07.58 and I'm going to have Melissa come over 00:22:07.61\00:22:09.60 so that I can apply this poultice to her 00:22:09.63\00:22:11.97 after I make it. 00:22:12.00\00:22:12.97 The great need in making a poultice, is to have 00:22:12.98\00:22:19.94 charcoal, and we have here a little flax seed 00:22:19.97\00:22:24.09 which can be ground up and added to the poultice 00:22:24.12\00:22:28.46 or, and if some have used also oatmeal. 00:22:28.49\00:22:33.90 This is a nice binder also 00:22:33.93\00:22:35.81 and allows for the moisture to remain in the compress. 00:22:35.84\00:22:39.27 Simply we take, 00:22:39.30\00:22:43.86 I'm going to use oatmeal today 00:22:43.89\00:22:45.64 One tablespoon of oatmeal 00:22:45.67\00:22:50.16 and some charcoal, and they will be bound together 00:22:50.19\00:22:56.67 and we'll use a little water 00:22:56.70\00:23:00.01 and we'll make a compress here. 00:23:00.04\00:23:04.68 We add a little water to this 00:23:04.71\00:23:12.96 this will make a paste 00:23:12.99\00:23:16.79 as you see it's very light 00:23:16.82\00:23:24.72 very light, and it flies very easily 00:23:24.75\00:23:26.94 and this paste then will 00:23:26.97\00:23:30.93 be put on a paper towel 00:23:30.97\00:23:32.85 which is pre-cut 00:23:32.88\00:23:34.25 The charcoal, activated charcoal 00:23:34.29\00:23:40.94 with the binder here, in the water 00:23:40.97\00:23:43.33 will work through the paper towel, 00:23:43.36\00:23:48.18 common kitchen paper towel. 00:23:48.21\00:23:51.53 Here we have a little paste 00:23:51.56\00:23:56.30 which I'm going to apply 00:23:56.33\00:23:58.32 now to the paper towel 00:23:58.35\00:24:02.35 we'll spread it out, 00:24:02.38\00:24:06.26 we'd like to have it about 1/4 inch thick 00:24:06.29\00:24:09.78 and then over top of that 00:24:09.81\00:24:20.95 I will place another one 00:24:20.98\00:24:23.35 Mellisa Thrash, 00:24:31.25\00:24:34.58 Dr. Thrash's granddaughter 00:24:34.61\00:24:36.27 is my sbuject today 00:24:36.30\00:24:37.49 and on top of this 00:24:37.52\00:24:43.58 we're going to place a little peice of plasic 00:24:43.61\00:24:46.55 to keep the moisture in. 00:24:46.58\00:24:48.09 Secure it with a little tape 00:24:54.19\00:25:01.33 and then overtop of this 00:25:01.71\00:25:20.22 we can put an Ace bandage 00:25:20.25\00:25:22.57 to keep it bound. 00:25:22.60\00:25:26.75 We're running out of time 00:25:26.78\00:25:28.29 so i'm just going to show you very quickly here 00:25:28.32\00:25:30.11 If on the other hand she had a 00:25:30.14\00:25:34.23 little misquito bite, not a misquito bite, 00:25:34.26\00:25:39.11 or a bee sting, or wasp, 00:25:39.14\00:25:41.14 then a little band-aid can be used 00:25:41.17\00:25:45.11 Melissa was telling me 00:25:45.14\00:25:57.58 about experiences that she had 00:25:57.61\00:25:59.04 where she had these little 00:25:59.07\00:26:01.16 band-aids all over her. 00:26:01.19\00:26:02.75 Getting rid of a little problem 00:26:02.78\00:26:05.43 that her sister had picked up 00:26:05.46\00:26:06.81 and shared with her 00:26:06.84\00:26:08.62 without her consent. 00:26:08.65\00:26:10.78 When this is taken off, 00:26:10.81\00:26:13.24 this can stay on for about six hours 00:26:13.27\00:26:15.57 to ten hours, and when 00:26:15.60\00:26:16.91 that's taken off, just simply wipe with a cool 00:26:16.94\00:26:19.54 cloth, rub very clean, then she is better 00:26:19.57\00:26:25.25 The problem that she had 00:26:25.28\00:26:28.18 would probably be taken care of. 00:26:28.21\00:26:29.80 Thank you Melissa. 00:26:29.83\00:26:33.72 Charcoal, 00:26:33.75\00:26:35.27 charcoal can be used in many different ways. 00:26:37.27\00:26:42.17 One of our doctors at Uchee Pines, 00:26:42.20\00:26:45.81 this little child was playing around a little hole 00:26:45.84\00:26:48.44 in the ground, and put a stick in the ground 00:26:48.47\00:26:50.07 and out of that hole came these yellow jackets 00:26:50.10\00:26:54.74 In just a moment 00:26:54.77\00:26:55.94 the yellow jackets were in 00:26:55.97\00:26:58.52 charge Our doctor then took the 00:26:58.55\00:27:01.47 child, placed the child in the 00:27:01.51\00:27:02.84 bathtub with water, and then put 00:27:02.87\00:27:06.39 in 2 cups of charcoal water 00:27:06.42\00:27:08.99 stirring it around, and she received releif 00:27:09.02\00:27:13.19 Dr. Thrash, that was a simple way to do it wasn't it? 00:27:13.22\00:27:16.52 Yes it was and it was very effective 00:27:16.55\00:27:18.87 but the interesting thing was 00:27:18.90\00:27:21.00 the doctor who sort of got lost 00:27:21.03\00:27:23.32 in all this work with the child 00:27:23.35\00:27:25.55 didn't get treatment 00:27:25.58\00:27:27.30 and he had a real big problem. 00:27:27.33\00:27:29.16 We didn't treat him, but we did treat his daughter. 00:27:29.19\00:27:33.23 Now I hope that in these things that we covered 00:27:33.26\00:27:36.97 with charcoal, that you will 00:27:37.00\00:27:38.82 be stimulated to try it. 00:27:38.85\00:27:41.16 Be sure you have it in your home 00:27:41.19\00:27:43.60 at all times. 00:27:43.63\00:27:44.72 Don't wait until the emergency arises 00:27:44.75\00:27:47.39 and then you have to run out 00:27:47.42\00:27:48.86 and get the charcoal, at that time 00:27:48.89\00:27:51.09 valuable time will be lost 00:27:51.12\00:27:52.95 and you can be enjoying 00:27:52.98\00:27:54.83 charcoal all this time 00:27:54.94\00:27:56.06 if you have it on hand. 00:27:56.14\00:27:57.90
