Let's Pray. 00:00:31.12\00:00:32.49 Our loving heavenly Father, there is so much confusion 00:00:33.96\00:00:37.06 in the world in general and in the church specifically 00:00:38.17\00:00:41.97 on the issue of what happens when a person dies, 00:00:42.52\00:00:46.31 the issue of the judgment, 00:00:47.03\00:00:48.56 and even concerning the second coming. 00:00:49.21\00:00:51.63 As we study these three doctrines today, we ask 00:00:52.30\00:00:55.56 that You will show us from Your Holy Word 00:00:56.25\00:00:58.86 the truth regarding these matters. 00:00:59.27\00:01:01.86 We want to embrace the truth as it is in Jesus. 00:01:02.30\00:01:05.68 And so we ask that You will guide our thoughts 00:01:06.15\00:01:08.57 and that You will open our hearts that we might receive 00:01:09.12\00:01:13.05 the word of truth. 00:01:13.08\00:01:14.56 And we thank You for hearing our prayer 00:01:15.04\00:01:16.96 for we ask it in Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:16.99\00:01:20.43 There are three doctrines of Scripture that are 00:01:23.08\00:01:27.60 inseparably linked together. 00:01:27.63\00:01:30.65 And they must be understood together. 00:01:31.40\00:01:34.97 If we get one of these doctrines wrong, 00:01:36.15\00:01:38.81 the other two will also be wrong. 00:01:39.91\00:01:42.06 And so, it is vitally important that we understand 00:01:44.03\00:01:47.27 the Bible truth about these three doctrines. 00:01:47.30\00:01:51.90 The doctrines that I'm referring to are, first of all, 00:01:52.77\00:01:56.25 the state of the dead; what happens when someone dies. 00:01:56.89\00:02:00.69 Secondly, the biblical concept of the judgment. 00:02:01.28\00:02:05.59 And third, the second coming of Jesus Christ in power and glory. 00:02:06.37\00:02:12.40 So in our study today, we are going to take a look at 00:02:13.51\00:02:16.24 these three doctrines and how they are related 00:02:16.27\00:02:19.26 with one another. 00:02:19.29\00:02:20.66 And I'd like to begin by reading from 00:02:21.03\00:02:23.65 Genesis chapter 2 and verse 7. 00:02:23.68\00:02:26.80 Genesis chapter 2 and verse 7. 00:02:27.28\00:02:30.01 It says here... 00:02:30.96\00:02:32.33 Now, what aspect of man is composed of dust? 00:02:38.10\00:02:41.38 Our physical body, right? 00:02:42.19\00:02:43.87 Now, we've already noticed in one of our previous lectures 00:02:44.31\00:02:46.96 that God used wet dust. 00:02:46.99\00:02:48.37 He actually used clay, right? 00:02:48.40\00:02:50.36 Because you can't form anything out of dust. 00:02:50.39\00:02:52.96 So God took the dust of the ground, that is, clay. 00:02:53.57\00:02:57.29 He formed a perfect body with all of its organs. 00:02:58.10\00:03:02.68 And it was a perfect body. 00:03:03.47\00:03:05.01 The only problem was, the body had no life. 00:03:05.81\00:03:09.80 The body was lifeless. 00:03:10.82\00:03:12.53 Notice, I didn't say the body was dead. 00:03:12.56\00:03:14.14 Because there was no death. 00:03:14.17\00:03:15.54 The body was lifeless. 00:03:15.57\00:03:17.00 It was missing something so that all of the organs 00:03:17.03\00:03:20.00 of the body could begin to function. 00:03:20.03\00:03:21.89 And so the verse continues saying... 00:03:22.39\00:03:24.17 And breathed in his nostrils. 00:03:24.21\00:03:27.38 What do you use your nostrils for? 00:03:28.90\00:03:31.95 You use your nostrils to breath. 00:03:32.99\00:03:35.21 So it says... 00:03:35.24\00:03:36.61 Or as the King James version says, "...a living soul." 00:03:43.84\00:03:47.95 And so you'll notice here that God created a perfect body 00:03:48.64\00:03:54.07 with all of its parts, all of its organs, 00:03:54.10\00:03:56.73 and He breathed into this body the breath of life. 00:03:57.39\00:04:00.58 And now, all of the parts of the body began 00:04:01.35\00:04:04.70 to fulfill their function. 00:04:04.73\00:04:07.07 And the body began to function in unity. 00:04:07.81\00:04:12.09 Every organ and every aspect of man doing what God 00:04:12.12\00:04:17.61 created it to do. 00:04:17.64\00:04:19.38 Now, inside the head of that body, God placed the brain. 00:04:20.09\00:04:23.93 The brain is the processing center of every person. 00:04:24.71\00:04:30.82 In other words, the brain is that which records 00:04:31.29\00:04:35.48 and classifies all of the information that comes 00:04:35.51\00:04:38.40 through our five senses. 00:04:38.43\00:04:40.48 And basically, as we live, we input information 00:04:41.01\00:04:45.57 through our five senses into our brain. 00:04:45.60\00:04:48.99 And the total accumulation of the information that 00:04:49.75\00:04:53.45 comes through our five senses is what forms our self identity 00:04:53.48\00:04:59.97 or forms our character. 00:05:00.00\00:05:02.58 In other words, our character or self identity is determined 00:05:03.26\00:05:06.67 by the information that we allow to come in through our 00:05:06.70\00:05:10.53 five senses into our brain. 00:05:10.56\00:05:13.14 This gives us our self identity or it gives us 00:05:13.17\00:05:17.50 our personal identity. 00:05:17.53\00:05:20.50 Now we've noticed what happened when God created man. 00:05:21.87\00:05:26.28 Let's take a look at what the Bible says about 00:05:27.13\00:05:29.98 the meaning of death; what takes place at the moment of death. 00:05:30.85\00:05:35.00 Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 7 speaks about 00:05:35.82\00:05:39.43 creation in reverse. 00:05:39.46\00:05:41.63 In other words, it speaks about the phenomenon of death. 00:05:42.32\00:05:45.55 And I want to read Ecclesiastes chapter 12 and verse 7. 00:05:45.58\00:05:50.23 It says here... 00:05:50.85\00:05:52.27 So what happens with the body, including the brain, 00:06:04.52\00:06:07.64 when a person passes away, when a person dies? 00:06:07.95\00:06:10.95 The Bible says that it returns to where? 00:06:11.37\00:06:14.00 It returns to the earth. 00:06:14.35\00:06:16.33 Dust to dust and ashes to ashes, 00:06:16.36\00:06:19.70 as it is said frequently at funerals. 00:06:19.73\00:06:23.02 And it says that the spirit, which energizes the body, 00:06:23.32\00:06:28.31 the breath, it returns... What? 00:06:28.81\00:06:31.88 It returns to God. 00:06:32.04\00:06:33.41 Because God is the Giver of what? 00:06:33.44\00:06:35.73 God is the Giver of life. 00:06:36.06\00:06:38.57 So basically, death is the opposite of the process of life. 00:06:39.37\00:06:44.04 In death, the body returns to the dust 00:06:44.50\00:06:47.70 and the breath goes out of the body. 00:06:48.08\00:06:50.54 And as a result, the body ceases to function. 00:06:50.84\00:06:55.59 Now, does that mean also that the brain ceases to function? 00:06:56.89\00:07:00.77 Absolutely. 00:07:01.78\00:07:03.15 Is the brain part of our physical organism? 00:07:03.18\00:07:06.12 It most certainly is. 00:07:06.45\00:07:08.10 So when a person dies, does the brain process any information 00:07:08.13\00:07:13.24 that comes through the five senses anymore? 00:07:13.27\00:07:15.29 No, your five senses do not function. 00:07:15.58\00:07:18.24 And therefore, the brain does not process 00:07:18.27\00:07:20.75 anything that comes in. 00:07:20.78\00:07:22.29 Because nothing actually comes in. 00:07:22.81\00:07:25.02 Now, let's take Adam as our example. 00:07:26.17\00:07:31.07 The writing of Adam's biography, or Adam's life history, 00:07:31.10\00:07:36.90 came to an end when he was 930 years old. 00:07:37.39\00:07:41.57 The Bible tells us that he lived 930 years and then he died. 00:07:42.34\00:07:46.81 So basically... 00:07:47.58\00:07:48.95 And we're going to use Adam as our example 00:07:48.98\00:07:50.90 quite frequently in our study today. 00:07:50.93\00:07:53.40 Basically, Adam died. 00:07:53.43\00:07:55.67 His body, including his brain, returned to the dust. 00:07:56.08\00:08:00.03 And the breath left the body, because he breathed no more. 00:08:00.41\00:08:06.42 In other words, when he died, his life history was complete. 00:08:07.04\00:08:10.51 His biography was complete. 00:08:10.54\00:08:12.47 The books on his life were closed. 00:08:12.57\00:08:16.21 But now I'm going to ask a critical question that 00:08:16.76\00:08:18.95 probably nobody has asked you before. 00:08:18.98\00:08:21.01 And that is this. 00:08:21.36\00:08:22.91 What happened to the 930 years of personal self identity, 00:08:23.63\00:08:30.19 or experiences, which Adam developed while he was alive? 00:08:30.22\00:08:35.40 Are you understanding my question? 00:08:37.02\00:08:38.63 While he was alive and his brain was functioning, 00:08:39.79\00:08:42.16 the whole accumulation of his experiences 00:08:43.66\00:08:47.06 were available to him, right? 00:08:47.09\00:08:49.00 He could remember... 00:08:49.62\00:08:50.99 Because he probably had a photographic memory. 00:08:51.02\00:08:53.62 You know, he had much more vitality than we have today. 00:08:53.98\00:08:57.19 He could retrieve any information, 00:08:57.22\00:08:58.87 remember things that had happened. 00:08:58.90\00:09:00.45 In other words, while his brain was active, 00:09:00.48\00:09:02.98 while his body was alive, his live history 00:09:03.01\00:09:06.48 was there in his brain. 00:09:06.51\00:09:08.48 Now the question is, when he died, what happened to 00:09:09.45\00:09:12.57 that life history? 00:09:12.60\00:09:13.97 What happened to his self identity 00:09:14.00\00:09:15.99 or all of his life experiences? 00:09:16.02\00:09:18.41 Well, his brain went to the grave. 00:09:18.62\00:09:20.88 And what happened to his brain? 00:09:20.91\00:09:22.47 His brain decomposed. 00:09:23.27\00:09:25.15 So what happened with all of the record of his life? 00:09:25.93\00:09:28.90 What happened with all of his biography that he had developed 00:09:29.10\00:09:33.13 all during his life? 00:09:33.16\00:09:34.53 Well, it went to the grave, and when his brain decomposed 00:09:34.56\00:09:39.20 all of that life history decomposed along with his brain. 00:09:39.23\00:09:42.85 Now you're saying, "That sounds pretty fatalistic." 00:09:44.86\00:09:48.06 And it does. 00:09:48.65\00:09:50.02 But we're going to notice in our study that God knows that 00:09:50.28\00:09:53.73 because of sin, we're going to die. 00:09:53.76\00:09:55.52 And therefore, God saves a backup of every detail 00:09:56.37\00:10:02.91 of that person's life in the heavenly books. 00:10:02.94\00:10:06.94 So even though the brain and the body disintegrate, 00:10:07.51\00:10:12.00 God has the total life of Adam, from the moment that he 00:10:12.25\00:10:18.33 was created by God till the moment that he died. 00:10:18.36\00:10:23.61 Every detail, God has written in heavenly books. 00:10:23.64\00:10:28.68 In other words, there is another Adam in heaven in written form. 00:10:28.71\00:10:33.01 Not in person. 00:10:33.04\00:10:34.41 There's a record, a written record, of his life in heaven. 00:10:34.44\00:10:38.01 Now, let's read some verses from Scripture 00:10:38.31\00:10:41.61 that show that this is true. 00:10:41.64\00:10:43.48 I'm going to read from 2 Corinthians chapter 5 00:10:44.55\00:10:47.84 and verse 10. 00:10:47.87\00:10:49.42 And I'm going to show you that in the books, plural, books, 00:10:49.94\00:10:55.49 God has written all of our life history. 00:10:55.52\00:10:58.71 And He's writing mine right now as I'm speaking. 00:10:58.74\00:11:01.22 In other words, God is recording everything that I'm thinking 00:11:01.55\00:11:05.15 and everything that I'm saying right now. 00:11:05.18\00:11:07.19 And He's also recording everything that's 00:11:07.22\00:11:09.04 going on in your brain. 00:11:09.07\00:11:10.44 God has another exact transcript of you in heaven in the books. 00:11:10.47\00:11:17.47 All of our actions, all of our motives, all of our words, 00:11:18.03\00:11:21.48 all of our feelings, all of our emotions, 00:11:21.51\00:11:23.59 all of our secrets, all of our thoughts. 00:11:23.62\00:11:26.08 Everything, inside and out, is written in the heavenly records. 00:11:26.44\00:11:30.47 Notice 2 Corinthians 5 verse 10. 00:11:30.93\00:11:33.14 That is, while we're alive on this earth. 00:11:44.15\00:11:46.87 Are we all going to have to appear before the 00:11:51.03\00:11:52.48 judgment seat of Christ? Yes. 00:11:52.51\00:11:54.31 Will we have to render an account for what we did good 00:11:54.34\00:11:56.63 and what we did bad? Yes. 00:11:56.66\00:11:58.31 So does God have a record of what we did good 00:11:58.34\00:12:00.37 and what we did bad? 00:12:00.40\00:12:01.77 Obviously, yes. 00:12:01.95\00:12:03.51 How about our words? 00:12:03.54\00:12:04.91 Is there a record of our words too? 00:12:04.94\00:12:06.61 Oh, that's part of our self identity, isn't it? 00:12:07.02\00:12:09.25 Isn't that part of our life history, 00:12:09.28\00:12:10.85 of our biography, our words? 00:12:10.88\00:12:12.87 Absolutely. 00:12:13.05\00:12:14.42 Notice Matthew chapter 12 and verses 36 and 37. 00:12:14.45\00:12:18.01 Here, Jesus is speaking and He says... 00:12:18.38\00:12:20.29 Does God keep a record of our words? Yes. 00:12:33.23\00:12:35.97 Will they face us again in the judgment? 00:12:36.00\00:12:38.90 According to Scripture, absolutely yes. 00:12:38.93\00:12:41.87 But not only that, our secret things are 00:12:42.41\00:12:45.40 recorded in the books. 00:12:45.43\00:12:46.80 Remember, books; plural. 00:12:46.83\00:12:48.20 In a moment, we're going to come to the Book. 00:12:48.48\00:12:49.89 But now we're talking about the books. 00:12:49.92\00:12:51.56 The books are the records that have the life biography 00:12:51.59\00:12:55.85 or the exact transcript of a person that lived on this earth 00:12:55.88\00:12:59.96 while he or she was alive. 00:12:59.99\00:13:02.47 Notice Ecclesiastes 12 verses 13 and 14. 00:13:02.50\00:13:06.41 Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. 00:13:06.44\00:13:09.49 Does He have our secrets recorded there too? 00:13:30.90\00:13:33.87 He most certainly does. 00:13:34.23\00:13:35.60 Are our actions written there? 00:13:35.63\00:13:37.43 They most certainly are. 00:13:37.46\00:13:38.83 How about our words? 00:13:38.86\00:13:40.23 They are, absolutely. In the books. 00:13:40.26\00:13:43.02 The books contain the biography, so to speak, of Adam 00:13:43.05\00:13:49.04 without missing a beat. 00:13:49.07\00:13:51.56 Every detail of Adam is registered there. 00:13:51.59\00:13:55.08 Notice Daniel 7 verses 9 and 10. 00:13:55.40\00:13:58.05 I'm going to read a couple of more passages. 00:13:58.08\00:13:59.96 Daniel 7 verses 9 and 10. 00:13:59.99\00:14:01.87 What do you suppose is in the books that are opened? 00:14:33.98\00:14:36.43 The record of the lives of people. 00:14:37.39\00:14:40.03 Let's notice also Revelation chapter 20 and verses 12 and 13. 00:14:40.88\00:14:44.90 And I'm only reading a sampling of these. 00:14:44.93\00:14:47.60 Revelation chapter 20 and verses 12 and 13. 00:14:47.80\00:14:51.09 Now, this is speaking about events after the millennium. 00:14:51.88\00:14:54.68 This is speaking about the wicked, but in principle 00:14:54.71\00:14:57.62 it shows how God also judged the righteous 00:14:57.65\00:15:01.06 before the second coming of Christ. 00:15:01.26\00:15:03.33 Revelation 20 and verse 12. 00:15:03.53\00:15:05.31 And now listen carefully to what it says. 00:15:05.97\00:15:07.78 How can dead people stand before God? 00:15:15.76\00:15:17.72 Let's continue reading. 00:15:19.23\00:15:20.88 The passage tells us. 00:15:20.91\00:15:22.73 Is the "book" different than the "books?" 00:15:36.06\00:15:38.21 Absolutely. 00:15:38.24\00:15:39.61 So what is contained in the books? 00:15:55.19\00:15:57.64 The works, or the lives, of every person who lived 00:15:58.23\00:16:03.54 on planet earth. 00:16:03.57\00:16:04.94 Is that different than the "book?" 00:16:04.97\00:16:06.77 Yes, because it says, "books." 00:16:07.25\00:16:09.13 And then it says, "another book." 00:16:09.16\00:16:11.09 So there's a difference between "books" and "book." 00:16:11.12\00:16:13.85 What is in the books is the record of the 00:16:13.88\00:16:17.89 life of the person. 00:16:17.92\00:16:19.29 The self identity that person wrote by what came into 00:16:19.32\00:16:22.99 his or her five senses for the period of their lives. 00:16:23.02\00:16:26.82 God has an exact transcript of that in heaven. 00:16:26.85\00:16:30.53 Now, it's interesting to notice then that I am personally 00:16:31.69\00:16:35.43 on earth, but in heaven I am in books. 00:16:35.46\00:16:39.50 On the other end, Jesus Christ is personally in heaven, 00:16:41.03\00:16:44.79 but on earth He is in 66 books. 00:16:44.82\00:16:47.76 You see, Jesus is up there in person, but on earth 00:16:48.83\00:16:52.77 He's written in books. 00:16:52.80\00:16:54.33 I am here in person, but in heaven my life 00:16:54.96\00:16:58.77 is written in what? 00:16:58.80\00:17:00.46 It is written in books. 00:17:00.49\00:17:02.68 So the heavenly books contain a complete biography 00:17:02.98\00:17:07.73 of every person. 00:17:07.76\00:17:09.13 They contain every act, every word, every motive, 00:17:09.72\00:17:14.08 every thought, every emotion. 00:17:14.11\00:17:16.30 Even every opportunity to do good which we did not 00:17:16.33\00:17:20.10 take advantage of. 00:17:20.13\00:17:21.50 There is a complete record of our lives, inside and out. 00:17:21.53\00:17:25.71 In other words, God has in written form in heaven 00:17:25.74\00:17:28.38 another me. 00:17:28.41\00:17:30.89 Is this clear to you? 00:17:31.39\00:17:32.76 Now, let me read you a statement from Ellen White. 00:17:33.31\00:17:35.92 A couple of statements, actually. 00:17:36.38\00:17:37.75 The first is, In Heavenly Places, page 360. 00:17:38.30\00:17:41.66 She understood this so clearly. 00:17:41.69\00:17:43.81 Page 360, In Heavenly Places, this is what she says. 00:17:44.90\00:17:48.32 "As the artist takes on the polished glass 00:17:48.72\00:17:53.61 a true picture of the human face, so the angels of God 00:17:54.26\00:18:00.02 daily place upon the books of heaven an exact representation 00:18:00.05\00:18:07.64 of the character of every human being." 00:18:07.67\00:18:10.72 That's a fantastic statement. 00:18:11.73\00:18:13.84 Once again, "As the artist takes on the polished glass 00:18:13.87\00:18:17.00 a true picture of the human face, so the angels of God 00:18:17.03\00:18:20.52 daily place upon the books of heaven an exact representation 00:18:20.55\00:18:24.38 of the character of every human being." 00:18:24.41\00:18:27.51 Ellen White also uses this same illustration 00:18:28.72\00:18:32.68 of photography in the book, "Testimonies on Sexual Behavior, 00:18:32.71\00:18:36.31 Adultery, and Divorce," page 62, when she says this. 00:18:36.34\00:18:39.52 "Remember, your character is being daguerreotyped..." 00:18:39.84\00:18:44.51 That's an old word that means, "photographed." 00:18:44.85\00:18:47.40 "...by the great Master Artist in the record books of heaven, 00:18:47.97\00:18:52.35 as minutely as the face is reproduced upon the 00:18:52.87\00:18:57.41 polished plate of the artist." 00:18:57.44\00:19:00.33 Now, I believe that if God was revealing this to a prophet 00:19:01.09\00:19:05.19 today, He would use different terms than 00:19:05.22\00:19:08.74 "books" or "photography." 00:19:08.77\00:19:10.74 I believe that He would be using, "video recorders" 00:19:11.51\00:19:15.66 and He would be using, "computers" to speak about 00:19:15.69\00:19:18.94 the information that God saves in heaven. 00:19:18.97\00:19:21.80 Because the technology of God is far greater than the 00:19:21.83\00:19:24.49 technology of human beings. 00:19:24.52\00:19:25.93 But God speaks about books in biblical times 00:19:25.96\00:19:28.68 because if God said, "computer," they would say, "What's that?" 00:19:28.71\00:19:31.84 And He used photography when He spoke to Ellen White 00:19:32.44\00:19:35.52 because photography was known at that time. 00:19:35.55\00:19:38.45 And it was a way of expressing what was in the books. 00:19:38.48\00:19:41.56 But if God spoke of this today, He would use 00:19:41.93\00:19:44.68 something that would appeal to the minds of people today. 00:19:44.71\00:19:48.36 And I'm going to give you an illustration at the end of our 00:19:48.39\00:19:50.68 study today comparing this whole process with a computer, 00:19:50.71\00:19:55.58 so that we can remember what we're studying. 00:19:55.61\00:19:57.62 Now, is it clear what is contained in the books? 00:19:57.65\00:20:00.11 Is that clear in your mind? 00:20:00.14\00:20:01.51 What is it that in the books? 00:20:01.60\00:20:03.26 An exact transcript of you. 00:20:03.98\00:20:06.18 All of your self identity that you develop during your life, 00:20:06.21\00:20:09.21 all of your personal identity that distinguishes you 00:20:09.59\00:20:13.06 from other people, is written in the books. 00:20:13.09\00:20:15.95 In other words, in heaven there's a complete biography 00:20:15.98\00:20:18.95 of every single person. 00:20:18.98\00:20:20.35 Now let's talk about the Book, singular. 00:20:20.49\00:20:22.97 Because it's a different book, as we read. 00:20:23.00\00:20:25.23 What is contained in the Book? 00:20:25.84\00:20:28.70 In the Book are contained names. 00:20:29.42\00:20:32.97 Not our lives. 00:20:34.14\00:20:35.52 Names. 00:20:35.55\00:20:37.14 Let's read several verses from Scripture 00:20:37.17\00:20:39.44 where this is proven true. 00:20:39.47\00:20:41.83 Let's go to Philippians chapter 4 and verse 3. 00:20:42.15\00:20:45.41 Philippians chapter 4 and verse 3. 00:20:45.75\00:20:47.72 Here, the apostle Paul is referring to some of his 00:20:47.96\00:20:52.50 fellow workers. 00:20:52.53\00:20:53.92 And notice what he says. 00:20:53.95\00:20:55.40 So what does the Book of Life contain? 00:21:12.64\00:21:14.89 It contains names, according to this text. 00:21:15.40\00:21:19.19 Notice Revelation chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:21:19.44\00:21:21.36 We're going to read several verses. 00:21:21.39\00:21:22.76 Revelation chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:21:22.79\00:21:25.41 Here, it's speaking about overcoming. 00:21:26.11\00:21:27.83 And John, the loving apostle, said... 00:21:27.86\00:21:30.95 "Name," singular. 00:21:38.44\00:21:40.05 "Book," singular. 00:21:41.34\00:21:42.71 Once again, what's in the Book? 00:21:47.36\00:21:49.02 Names. 00:21:49.79\00:21:51.22 Notice Exodus chapter 32 and verses 31 to 33. 00:21:51.25\00:21:56.60 Here, Moses is at the top of Mt. No. 00:26:04.08\00:26:06.45 Now notice what this first angel who brings the everlasting 00:26:06.48\00:26:09.01 gospel has to say in verse 7. 00:26:09.04\00:26:10.88 "...saying with a loud voice, 'Fear God and give glory to Him, 00:26:11.15\00:26:14.99 for the hour of His judgment will come." 00:26:15.19\00:26:17.40 Ah, it doesn't say, "will come." 00:26:18.00\00:26:19.54 This is a punctual past and it's an aorist in Greek. 00:26:19.84\00:26:23.19 "The hour of His judgment has come..." 00:26:23.40\00:26:26.25 Question, does the judgment begin while the gospel is 00:26:30.27\00:26:34.76 being preached to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people? 00:26:34.79\00:26:37.53 Yes. 00:26:37.56\00:26:38.93 Does the judgment take place then before the close of 00:26:38.96\00:26:41.17 probation and before the second coming of Christ? 00:26:41.20\00:26:43.34 Absolutely yes. 00:26:43.62\00:26:46.58 Now, when do people receive their reward? 00:26:47.04\00:26:49.01 We've studied this before. 00:26:50.50\00:26:51.96 Notice Matthew 16 and verse 27. 00:26:52.31\00:26:54.66 Matthew 16 and verse 27. 00:26:54.69\00:26:56.80 I want you to have these things clear in your mind, 00:26:56.83\00:26:58.46 because we're going to come back to them in a few moments. 00:26:58.49\00:27:00.77 Matthew 16:27 says... 00:27:01.38\00:27:03.25 What coming is that referring to when it says He will 00:27:10.61\00:27:13.45 come in the glory of His Father with His angels? 00:27:13.48\00:27:15.11 Which coming is that? 00:27:15.14\00:27:16.51 The second coming of Christ. 00:27:16.54\00:27:17.92 It says, "...and then He will..." Verse 16. 00:29:10.95\00:29:12.72 "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven 00:29:12.75\00:29:15.13 with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, 00:29:15.61\00:29:18.39 and with the trumpet of God. 00:29:18.42\00:29:20.17 And the dead in Christ will rise first." 00:29:20.33\00:29:23.31 What event is being described in verse 16 00:29:23.51\00:29:25.47 when it says, "The Lord Himself will descend from heaven 00:29:25.50\00:29:27.68 with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, 00:29:27.71\00:29:29.39 and with the trumpet of God." 00:29:29.42\00:29:30.79 What event is that? 00:29:30.82\00:29:32.19 The second coming of Christ. 00:29:32.22\00:29:33.59 And what happens? 00:29:33.62\00:29:34.99 It says, "And the dead in Christ will..." What? 00:29:35.02\00:29:36.70 "...will rise first." 00:29:37.10\00:29:38.47 Now listen carefully. 00:29:38.50\00:29:39.87 "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up 00:29:39.90\00:29:43.45 together with them..." 00:29:43.48\00:29:44.85 Who's that? 00:29:44.88\00:29:46.25 Caught up together with who? 00:29:46.28\00:29:47.65 With those who died and... What? 00:29:48.00\00:29:50.09 ...and resurrected. 00:29:50.25\00:29:51.62 "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up 00:29:51.65\00:29:53.60 together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. 00:29:53.63\00:29:57.75 And thus we shall always be..." What? 00:29:58.13\00:30:01.28 "...with the Lord." 00:30:01.31\00:30:02.68 When is it that God's people are going to heaven with Jesus? 00:30:02.71\00:30:04.89 Is it when they die or is it when Jesus comes? 00:30:04.92\00:30:07.44 It's when Jesus comes, according to Scripture. 00:30:07.56\00:30:09.66 The Bible is clear on this. 00:30:09.69\00:30:11.33 All throughout the New Testament the hope of the Christian 00:30:11.60\00:30:14.07 is not in some immortal soul flying off at death. 00:30:14.10\00:30:16.67 The hope of the Christian is in the resurrection 00:30:16.70\00:30:19.24 of the dead through the power of Jesus Christ 00:30:19.27\00:30:21.70 when He comes at His second coming. 00:30:21.73\00:30:23.51 Now let's review what we've studied 00:30:24.22\00:30:25.98 so far about the judgment. 00:30:26.01\00:30:27.38 First of all, how many must appear? 00:30:27.41\00:30:28.94 All must appear. 00:30:29.49\00:30:30.86 Where does the judgment take place? 00:30:30.92\00:30:32.65 In heaven. 00:30:33.15\00:30:34.52 When does it take place? 00:30:34.55\00:30:35.92 Before the second coming. 00:30:36.27\00:30:37.84 When does Jesus reward those who went through the judgment? 00:30:37.87\00:30:41.93 At the second coming of Christ. 00:30:42.42\00:30:44.12 Now, here's a very important question. 00:30:44.15\00:30:47.26 Where are the dead between the time of their death 00:30:48.20\00:30:52.69 and when Jesus comes to reward them. 00:30:53.87\00:30:56.04 Let's go to John 5:28-29 and listen to the 00:30:57.40\00:31:00.38 words of Jesus Christ. 00:31:00.41\00:31:02.00 You think we could trust Jesus? 00:31:02.35\00:31:03.80 I think we can trust what Jesus says. 00:31:04.75\00:31:06.73 John 5 verses 28 and 29. 00:31:06.76\00:31:09.08 Jesus says... 00:31:09.11\00:31:10.48 "Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which 00:31:11.20\00:31:16.19 all who are in heaven or in hell will hear His voice..." 00:31:16.22\00:31:19.61 No. 00:31:20.28\00:31:21.65 It says, "For the hour is coming in which all who are..." Where? 00:31:22.19\00:31:25.69 "...in the graves..." 00:31:26.08\00:31:27.57 So where are the dead from the point of death 00:31:44.27\00:31:48.34 until the point of the second coming of Jesus? 00:31:48.37\00:31:50.89 The Bible says that they are in their what? 00:31:51.31\00:31:53.95 In their graves. 00:31:54.15\00:31:55.52 Now, after a person dies and before Jesus comes, all of 00:31:55.55\00:32:00.40 God's people must stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 00:32:00.43\00:32:03.61 Right? We read that. 00:32:03.64\00:32:05.01 All of us must stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 00:32:05.04\00:32:07.36 Now here's the big question. 00:32:07.39\00:32:08.81 Did Adam have to appear before the judgment seat of Christ? 00:32:09.93\00:32:12.72 We noticed that the date for the judgment began when? 00:32:14.31\00:32:17.45 In 1844. 00:32:18.34\00:32:19.71 Adam is the first one who appears before the 00:32:19.74\00:32:22.03 judgment seat of Christ. 00:32:22.06\00:32:23.43 Now you're saying, "Now wait a minute, Pastor Bohr. 00:32:23.46\00:32:24.83 You're contradicting yourself. 00:32:24.86\00:32:26.23 Because you just said that Adam died and he's in the grave 00:32:26.76\00:32:32.12 until Jesus comes. 00:32:32.15\00:32:33.52 So how could Adam appear before the judgment seat 00:32:33.55\00:32:35.95 of Christ in 1844?" 00:32:35.98\00:32:37.86 Are you understanding my question? 00:32:39.46\00:32:40.92 It sounds like a complicated question, but it really isn't. 00:32:41.77\00:32:44.48 Now let me read you a statement from 00:32:44.51\00:32:46.04 Great Controversy, page 482. 00:32:46.07\00:32:48.15 Great Controversy, page 482. 00:32:48.57\00:32:50.89 Ellen White explains here... 00:32:51.90\00:32:53.43 This is the judgment of God's people before the second coming. 00:32:56.19\00:32:59.08 Who is contemplated in this judgment? 00:33:09.51\00:33:11.65 All of those who what? 00:33:12.06\00:33:13.49 Not unbelievers. 00:33:14.01\00:33:15.73 We already noticed the millennium. 00:33:15.76\00:33:17.21 And after the millennium takes care of those. 00:33:17.24\00:33:19.30 So who would be the first one? 00:33:28.46\00:33:29.83 Adam. 00:33:30.49\00:33:31.86 Now, I ask the question once again. 00:33:44.55\00:33:46.35 How is it possible for Adam to appear before the 00:33:46.38\00:33:49.05 judgment seat of Christ, first in 1844, 00:33:49.08\00:33:52.41 because he was the first that lived on planet earth? 00:33:52.44\00:33:55.43 How could he appear there if he was in his grave 00:33:55.46\00:33:57.96 waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ? 00:33:57.99\00:34:00.18 I think you know the answer. 00:34:00.21\00:34:01.67 He appeared before the judgment seat of Christ, 00:34:02.78\00:34:04.97 not in person, but through the record of his life in the books. 00:34:05.00\00:34:10.63 Now let me read you a statement here. 00:34:11.88\00:34:13.58 Great Controversy, 482. 00:34:13.61\00:34:15.55 You know, Ellen White understood this so clearly. 00:34:15.75\00:34:18.28 If Christians would just read the book, The Great Controversy, 00:34:18.69\00:34:21.10 with an open mind, all kinds of dots would be connected. 00:34:21.13\00:34:24.65 And they would understand how all of the doctrines of the 00:34:24.97\00:34:27.46 Bible fit together in a perfect and harmonious whole. 00:34:27.49\00:34:31.64 And it's not just a collection of doctrines, you know, 00:34:32.48\00:34:35.50 which when you look at them carefully, 00:34:35.53\00:34:36.90 one doctrine contradicts another. 00:34:36.93\00:34:38.69 No, all of the doctrines of the Bible are in perfect harmony. 00:34:38.72\00:34:41.94 Now notice what she says, Great Controversy, 482. 00:34:42.30\00:34:44.72 Is that biblical? Sure. 00:34:50.79\00:34:52.60 Are you following me? 00:35:12.72\00:35:14.09 It is so simple. It's not complicated. 00:35:14.12\00:35:16.47 It's not rocket science. 00:35:16.50\00:35:17.97 The Bible makes it simple. 00:35:18.85\00:35:20.56 Now it want to talk to you about something that even 00:35:21.63\00:35:24.85 most Seventh-day Adventists have not fully understood. 00:35:24.88\00:35:28.21 You say, "What? 00:35:29.28\00:35:30.78 Not even Seventh-day Adventists have fully understood this?" 00:35:31.31\00:35:34.00 Absolutely. 00:35:34.03\00:35:35.40 We read that the Bible says that when a person dies, 00:35:35.93\00:35:38.82 the spirit returns to what? 00:35:39.86\00:35:41.66 The spirit returns to God. 00:35:42.19\00:35:44.12 Now, there more there than just the breath returning to God. 00:35:44.15\00:35:48.72 Because some people say, "Oh, you say that the 00:35:49.57\00:35:51.62 spirit is the breath. 00:35:51.65\00:35:53.02 So when a person breathes his last, God grabs the breath 00:35:53.05\00:35:56.57 and He saves it in heaven?" 00:35:56.60\00:35:57.97 No, they say it facetiously. 00:35:58.58\00:36:00.00 But the fact is, the spirit is more than the breath. 00:36:00.67\00:36:03.69 The spirit is the record of the self identity of the person 00:36:04.51\00:36:08.92 that is recorded in God's books. 00:36:09.24\00:36:11.39 Let me give you some biblical examples, 00:36:11.98\00:36:13.72 and then we're going to put it all together. 00:36:13.75\00:36:15.66 Notice Luke chapter 8 verses 52 through 56. 00:36:16.19\00:36:20.06 This is the story of the resurrection 00:36:20.09\00:36:21.84 of the daughter of Jairus. 00:36:21.87\00:36:23.75 And I want you to notice this very interesting story. 00:36:23.78\00:36:26.93 Here, Jesus is going to resurrect her. 00:36:26.96\00:36:29.17 It says... 00:36:29.47\00:36:30.84 And now listen carefully. 00:36:50.53\00:36:51.90 Sometimes, you know, even though I have large print, 00:36:51.93\00:36:54.27 I read things wrong. 00:36:54.30\00:36:56.04 So you're going to correct me if I read it wrong. 00:36:56.07\00:36:58.01 "Then the spirit returned..." 00:36:58.19\00:37:01.13 Thank you very much. 00:37:03.11\00:37:04.48 It doesn't say, "the spirit." It says what? 00:37:04.51\00:37:07.22 "...her spirit returned..." 00:37:07.42\00:37:10.33 Let me ask you, do you think that this little girl, 00:37:18.11\00:37:20.18 when she resurrected, recognized her parents? 00:37:20.21\00:37:22.10 Do you think she remembered the last events of her life? 00:37:24.57\00:37:27.02 The Bible gives us the impression that she was 00:37:28.96\00:37:30.73 even hungry when she died. 00:37:30.76\00:37:32.40 Because the first thing that Jesus says is, 00:37:32.75\00:37:34.12 "Give her some food." 00:37:34.15\00:37:35.52 In other words, what does this mean when it says that 00:37:36.44\00:37:40.11 "her spirit" returned to her? 00:37:40.14\00:37:42.29 Did God give her back only her breath? 00:37:42.32\00:37:44.69 Or did God give her back her self identity, 00:37:44.72\00:37:47.49 who she was while she was alive? 00:37:47.52\00:37:50.03 He returned to her who she was when she was alive. 00:37:50.97\00:37:53.93 In other words, our spirit becomes personalized. 00:37:53.96\00:37:56.97 Now, it's not that the spirit is alive or anything. 00:37:58.18\00:38:00.63 But somehow, God saves the record in a way of technology 00:38:01.29\00:38:06.06 that's far greater than any of us can understand. 00:38:06.09\00:38:08.45 And when a person dies, when he resurrects that person, 00:38:08.88\00:38:11.89 He takes the record of the life and inputs it into the person, 00:38:12.09\00:38:16.04 and gives the breath of life to that person. 00:38:16.07\00:38:18.11 And that person picks up where he or she left off. 00:38:18.14\00:38:21.94 Are you with me or not? 00:38:21.97\00:38:23.34 That's why it says, "her spirit." 00:38:23.37\00:38:25.18 Not any old spirit, not just the spirit, not just the breath. 00:38:25.38\00:38:28.26 Her spirit. 00:38:28.29\00:38:29.66 Now notice another biblical example. 00:38:29.82\00:38:31.46 Acts chapter 7 and verses 57 to 60. 00:38:31.49\00:38:33.95 This is talking about the stoning of Stephen. 00:38:33.98\00:38:36.10 Acts 7 and verses 57 through 60. 00:38:36.41\00:38:39.49 "And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God 00:38:54.20\00:38:57.10 and saying, 'Lord Jesus, receive the spirit.'" 00:38:57.13\00:39:01.16 Thank you very much. 00:39:02.21\00:39:03.58 It doesn't say, "receive the spirit." 00:39:03.61\00:39:05.14 It says, "receive my spirit." 00:39:05.17\00:39:07.68 You know, it could have been written, "he died." 00:39:20.89\00:39:23.10 Oh, that sounds so terrible; "he died." 00:39:23.13\00:39:24.64 No, he went to sleep. 00:39:24.67\00:39:26.04 You know, death is just a little bit longer sleep 00:39:26.40\00:39:28.53 than when we sleep at night. 00:39:28.56\00:39:29.93 So what returned to Stephen? 00:39:33.37\00:39:35.11 He said, "my spirit." 00:39:36.15\00:39:38.98 When Stephen resurrects, do you think he's going to 00:39:39.91\00:39:41.73 remember Saul of Tarsus? 00:39:41.76\00:39:43.40 Do you think he's going to remember this sermon that 00:39:44.17\00:39:46.75 he gave in Acts chapter 7? 00:39:46.78\00:39:48.15 You better believe it. 00:39:48.18\00:39:49.55 He's going to pick up where he left off. 00:39:49.68\00:39:51.60 Because God is not only going to return his breath, 00:39:51.63\00:39:54.27 but his breath was who he was while he was alive 00:39:54.30\00:39:56.99 with his own self identity. 00:39:57.02\00:39:58.61 His personalized spirit, if you please. 00:39:58.64\00:40:01.08 Now, let's notice one final example. 00:40:01.40\00:40:03.20 And then I'll read you a statement from Ellen White 00:40:03.23\00:40:04.76 which is very interesting. 00:40:04.79\00:40:06.16 Luke 23 and verse 46. 00:40:06.19\00:40:08.36 This is dealing with Christ. 00:40:08.69\00:40:10.06 Luke 23 and verse 46. 00:40:10.09\00:40:13.09 It says, "And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, 00:40:13.12\00:40:16.55 He said, 'Father, into Your hands I commit the spirit.'" 00:40:16.96\00:40:22.63 No, that doesn't say, "the spirit." 00:40:23.32\00:40:24.98 It says, "I commit My spirit." 00:40:25.27\00:40:28.10 So what did Jesus commend to his Father? 00:40:34.20\00:40:36.15 Only His breath? 00:40:36.18\00:40:37.55 No, it was His breath along with His what? 00:40:37.81\00:40:40.15 With His self identity. 00:40:40.51\00:40:42.14 With who He was during His life. 00:40:42.17\00:40:44.03 Now let me read you an amazing statement from a woman who 00:40:44.34\00:40:47.18 had two and a half years of primary education. 00:40:47.21\00:40:50.14 Because that's all of the formal education Ellen White had, 00:40:51.25\00:40:53.93 was two and a half years of primary elementary education. 00:40:53.96\00:40:56.78 Listen to what she had to say. 00:40:57.85\00:40:59.23 This is found in the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary, 00:40:59.73\00:41:02.20 volume 6, page 1093. 00:41:02.23\00:41:04.80 Because God doesn't have to recuperate every little 00:41:17.28\00:41:19.09 particle of matter to put us back together again. 00:41:19.12\00:41:21.69 She continues saying... 00:41:22.40\00:41:23.77 And here comes the key portion. 00:41:28.14\00:41:29.83 What is it that God preserves? Only our breath? 00:41:39.42\00:41:41.80 No, He preserves what? 00:41:42.68\00:41:44.48 Our character, which is the record of our lives. 00:41:44.86\00:41:47.56 Our self identity, who we were while we were alive. 00:41:47.59\00:41:50.62 So she says... 00:41:50.65\00:41:52.02 Wouldn't that be something if God gave me the breath 00:42:01.84\00:42:03.94 of life and I was Rick Torres? 00:42:03.97\00:42:05.78 No, God is going to return to me my spirit. 00:42:08.25\00:42:11.50 I like Rick, but I don't want to be Rick. 00:42:11.53\00:42:15.05 I want to be myself. 00:42:16.63\00:42:18.06 Now, let me give you an illustration of what this means. 00:42:19.30\00:42:21.45 Let's suppose that you have a video camera 00:42:22.35\00:42:24.41 and you've been taping some events, some family events, 00:42:24.44\00:42:27.31 and you shut off the camera. 00:42:28.73\00:42:30.10 And for ten years, the camera, you don't use it. 00:42:30.61\00:42:34.37 It's in the closet. 00:42:34.40\00:42:35.77 After ten years, you take it out. 00:42:36.04\00:42:37.95 And you decide that you're going to take some family pictures. 00:42:38.64\00:42:41.11 And so you turn on the video camera and you keep on taping. 00:42:41.14\00:42:44.64 Let me ask you, when you watch the video, 00:42:45.52\00:42:47.35 do you find any indication that there was any interval of time 00:42:48.23\00:42:51.51 between when the camera shut off and when the 00:42:51.54\00:42:53.91 camera picked up again? 00:42:53.94\00:42:55.31 Absolutely not. 00:42:55.36\00:42:56.73 The camera was off for ten years. 00:42:56.76\00:42:59.24 The camera, if you please, had no history 00:42:59.43\00:43:02.03 during those ten years. 00:43:02.06\00:43:03.50 It picked up where it... What? 00:43:03.70\00:43:05.88 ...where it left off. 00:43:06.06\00:43:07.43 The same is true with our lives. 00:43:07.46\00:43:08.88 See, as we live, the video camera is rolling. 00:43:09.09\00:43:11.99 God is taping, so to speak, our lives. 00:43:12.32\00:43:15.12 When we die, what happens? 00:43:15.15\00:43:16.80 The video camera shuts off. 00:43:16.83\00:43:18.43 What happens at the resurrection? 00:43:18.64\00:43:20.49 At the resurrection, the video camera starts rolling again. 00:43:20.69\00:43:23.74 What happened during the interim, all of that period 00:43:23.88\00:43:26.62 between when the camera was shut off 00:43:26.65\00:43:28.37 and when the camera is turned on again? 00:43:28.40\00:43:30.15 God's people were sleeping. 00:43:32.67\00:43:34.16 That person had absolutely no history. 00:43:34.51\00:43:37.21 Because that person was what? 00:43:37.65\00:43:39.63 That person was dead. 00:43:40.33\00:43:41.72 Or that person was sleeping. 00:43:41.75\00:43:43.16 Are you following me or not? 00:43:43.19\00:43:44.56 Now, let's read Job 19:25-27. 00:43:44.77\00:43:47.95 This is a very interesting passage. 00:43:47.98\00:43:49.94 Here, Job is speaking about his own experience. 00:43:49.97\00:43:54.73 Job 19 verses 25 through 27. 00:43:54.76\00:43:58.09 This is one of those moments where he expresses 00:43:58.19\00:44:00.12 a high degree of faith in the midst of his suffering. 00:44:00.15\00:44:03.08 He says there, "For I know that my Redeemer lives, 00:44:03.77\00:44:07.64 and that in the end, He will stand upon the earth. 00:44:08.22\00:44:12.03 And after my skin has been destroyed..." 00:44:12.73\00:44:15.62 In other words, "After I decompose." 00:44:15.65\00:44:17.49 Now notice the terminology. 00:44:17.85\00:44:19.83 "After my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh 00:44:19.86\00:44:24.30 I will see God. 00:44:24.33\00:44:26.71 I myself will see Him with my own eyes. 00:44:26.74\00:44:31.24 I, and not another." 00:44:31.27\00:44:33.40 So nobody else is going to see Jesus when He comes 00:44:33.43\00:44:35.55 because Job says, "Me, and no one else." 00:44:35.58\00:44:38.31 What is Job really saying? 00:44:38.74\00:44:40.12 He's saying, "When I resurrect, I am going to be..." What? 00:44:40.69\00:44:44.86 "...I am going to be Job. 00:44:45.07\00:44:47.15 I myself, after my skin decomposes, I myself 00:44:48.31\00:44:52.52 am going to see..." What? 00:44:52.55\00:44:53.92 "With my own eyes and not another." 00:44:53.95\00:44:55.95 In other words, I'm not going to be another person. 00:44:55.98\00:44:58.12 I am going to be the... What? 00:44:58.15\00:45:00.19 I am going to be the same person. 00:45:00.42\00:45:02.16 Now, let me give you an example from the experience 00:45:02.85\00:45:07.13 of the wicked outside the Holy City after the thousand years. 00:45:07.16\00:45:10.29 How do the wicked resurrect? 00:45:11.01\00:45:12.79 Righteous? 00:45:13.99\00:45:15.36 No, they resurrect wicked. 00:45:15.57\00:45:17.18 Listen to another statement from Great Controversy, page 664. 00:45:17.73\00:45:21.45 Amazing statement. Great Controversy, page 664. 00:45:21.48\00:45:24.68 Here, she's referring to the wicked outside the Holy City 00:45:25.38\00:45:27.82 after the millennium. 00:45:27.85\00:45:29.22 What does "resume" mean? 00:45:57.65\00:45:59.21 It means they start where the video camera 00:46:00.88\00:46:03.04 went off when they died. 00:46:03.07\00:46:04.44 So when the wicked resurrect, are they 00:46:17.45\00:46:19.15 going to resurrect wicked? 00:46:19.18\00:46:20.55 Are they going to pick up where they left off? 00:46:21.35\00:46:23.01 Are they going to be just as rebellious? 00:46:23.42\00:46:24.99 So what is Jesus going to return to them? 00:46:25.30\00:46:27.09 Only the breath of life? 00:46:27.12\00:46:28.49 No, He's going to return to them the breath of life 00:46:28.72\00:46:31.59 along with the record that they had while they were alive. 00:46:31.62\00:46:35.44 That is the spirit. 00:46:36.52\00:46:37.91 It's not only the breath. 00:46:37.94\00:46:39.87 It's the record of the life that is inputted into the person 00:46:39.90\00:46:44.18 along with the breath of life. 00:46:44.39\00:46:46.13 Is this clear in your mind? 00:46:46.16\00:46:47.82 It's extremely important. 00:46:47.85\00:46:49.22 Most Adventists, you know, they have this idea 00:46:49.25\00:46:51.94 that the spirit that goes to God is the breath. 00:46:51.97\00:46:55.06 And that's good. 00:46:55.09\00:46:56.46 But it's not the total picture. 00:46:56.87\00:46:59.17 The total picture is that when you die, simply, God in heaven, 00:46:59.20\00:47:04.52 He closes the books on you. 00:47:04.55\00:47:06.04 And He saves you up there. 00:47:07.00\00:47:08.95 He saves the record of your life. 00:47:09.22\00:47:11.12 Because in the resurrection, He's going to return to you 00:47:11.47\00:47:14.48 who you were while you were alive. 00:47:14.86\00:47:17.02 Let me give you an example. 00:47:18.23\00:47:19.60 How many of you have seen that little clip 00:47:19.82\00:47:21.88 of the assassination of John F. Kennedy? 00:47:22.46\00:47:24.80 That little Zapruder film. 00:47:24.83\00:47:26.20 You've seen it? 00:47:26.23\00:47:27.60 Where the presidential limo is coming around, 00:47:27.63\00:47:30.78 turning onto Elm Street, and coming down. 00:47:31.12\00:47:33.50 And John F. Kennedy sitting there and 00:47:33.53\00:47:35.45 Jackie's in her pink dress, and they're waving at everybody. 00:47:35.48\00:47:38.25 Let me ask you, when you watch that clip of video, 00:47:38.92\00:47:41.12 is John Kennedy alive or is he dead? 00:47:41.15\00:47:43.27 Every time I ask that question, people say, "alive," "dead," 00:47:45.47\00:47:49.04 "alive," "dead," because it all depends. 00:47:49.07\00:47:51.76 When you're watching the clip, he is what? 00:47:52.20\00:47:54.99 No, when you're watching the clip, he's dead. 00:47:55.62\00:47:57.97 But when the clip was made, he was what? 00:48:00.82\00:48:03.59 He was alive. 00:48:04.20\00:48:05.57 You're looking at the record after his what? 00:48:05.60\00:48:08.30 After his death. 00:48:08.51\00:48:09.88 But you're seeing the experience while he was what? 00:48:09.91\00:48:13.98 Alive. 00:48:14.01\00:48:15.38 That illustrates how God does it in heaven. 00:48:15.41\00:48:17.00 In the judgment, He says, "Steve Bohr, appear before 00:48:18.13\00:48:20.74 the judgment seat of Christ." 00:48:20.77\00:48:22.29 So what do the angels do? 00:48:22.99\00:48:24.36 The angels run and they bring the books. 00:48:24.39\00:48:26.25 And by the way, "books" is very inadequate. 00:48:27.86\00:48:30.12 They bring the DVD, if you please. 00:48:30.15\00:48:33.75 And then God has this huge screen. 00:48:34.78\00:48:36.74 He says, "Now we're going to look at the life of Pastor Bohr 00:48:36.77\00:48:39.29 from beginning to end." 00:48:39.32\00:48:40.80 And so the life of Pastor Bohr, in all of its details 00:48:41.89\00:48:44.95 that was made while I was alive, is examined. 00:48:44.98\00:48:47.66 Is there a certain sense, then, that I am appearing alive 00:48:47.86\00:48:50.72 before the judgment seat of Christ? 00:48:50.75\00:48:52.29 Yes, I'm appearing after I died, but the records were made 00:48:52.56\00:48:55.89 while I was alive. 00:48:55.92\00:48:57.29 So in other words, the record that is there is the 00:48:57.75\00:49:01.19 record of my life. 00:49:01.22\00:49:02.59 In a certain sense, I'm appearing there alive. 00:49:02.62\00:49:05.29 Even though after I died. 00:49:05.32\00:49:07.22 Are you understanding my point? 00:49:07.25\00:49:08.62 It doesn't mean that I'm personally alive there. 00:49:08.65\00:49:10.77 It means that the records were made while I was what? 00:49:10.80\00:49:14.52 The records were made while I was alive. 00:49:14.84\00:49:18.30 Now, the Bible explains this process. 00:49:19.17\00:49:21.22 Revelation 20 and verses 11 through 15 00:49:21.61\00:49:25.44 speaks of this process. 00:49:25.47\00:49:27.05 It says there, "Then I saw a great white throne 00:49:27.49\00:49:31.12 and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth 00:49:31.87\00:49:34.60 and the heaven fled away. 00:49:34.63\00:49:36.02 And there was found no place for them." 00:49:36.05\00:49:38.20 This is speaking about during the millennium. 00:49:38.23\00:49:39.87 "And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God..." 00:49:39.90\00:49:44.38 How can those dead people stand before God? 00:49:44.41\00:49:46.19 Through their DVD, if you please. 00:49:46.97\00:49:49.62 "...and books were opened." Notice. 00:49:50.21\00:49:52.31 "And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. 00:49:52.86\00:49:55.98 And the dead..." 00:49:56.01\00:49:57.38 Notice that they're dead at this point. 00:49:57.41\00:49:58.78 They're not alive. 00:49:58.81\00:50:00.18 "And the dead were judged according to their works, 00:50:00.21\00:50:02.50 by the things which were written..." Where? 00:50:03.14\00:50:06.07 "...which were written in the books." 00:50:06.10\00:50:08.49 Now, let me compare this with a computer. 00:50:10.59\00:50:12.38 Let's imagine what is was like for Adam to appear before 00:50:14.43\00:50:17.59 the judgment seat of Christ. 00:50:17.62\00:50:18.99 God says, "Adam appear before My judgment seat." 00:50:19.02\00:50:21.43 And so, where is Adam in 1844? 00:50:22.55\00:50:25.99 Well, his brain decomposed. 00:50:26.94\00:50:28.57 All the record is decomposed. 00:50:28.60\00:50:29.97 But the angels bring what? 00:50:30.00\00:50:31.97 So to speak, the DVD. 00:50:32.38\00:50:33.80 And the heavenly beings see the whole life of Adam 00:50:34.54\00:50:37.71 that was made during his life. 00:50:37.74\00:50:39.16 And where is Adam's name? 00:50:40.72\00:50:42.69 In the Book of Life. 00:50:43.28\00:50:44.65 And God is going to ask the heavenly jury, 00:50:45.05\00:50:46.88 He's going to say, "Now the name of Adam is in the Book of Life. 00:50:46.91\00:50:49.46 You have watched his life. 00:50:49.49\00:50:50.86 You saw how he repented of his sin. 00:50:51.66\00:50:53.75 He confessed his sin. 00:50:54.35\00:50:55.72 He loathed himself. 00:50:56.45\00:50:57.99 He was meek and humble. 00:50:58.77\00:51:00.15 He claimed My blood by offering the sacrifice. 00:51:00.70\00:51:03.65 What do you think, folks? 00:51:03.89\00:51:05.26 Should we call Adam home at the moment of the resurrection? 00:51:06.29\00:51:09.45 What do you think?" 00:51:09.48\00:51:10.85 And the heavenly beings will say, "Yes. 00:51:11.34\00:51:14.16 Let's chalk him up to a resurrection 00:51:14.81\00:51:17.88 in the first resurrection." 00:51:17.91\00:51:19.92 So what happens when Jesus comes? 00:51:20.23\00:51:21.94 When Jesus comes, Adam is what? 00:51:22.40\00:51:25.02 Resurrected, and he's given the reward that was determined 00:51:25.05\00:51:28.39 in the judgment beforehand. 00:51:28.42\00:51:30.06 Is that so complicated? 00:51:30.94\00:51:32.50 It's actually simple. 00:51:32.96\00:51:34.33 You see how the state of the dead and the judgment 00:51:34.36\00:51:37.24 and the second coming are very closely intertwined 00:51:37.60\00:51:40.50 one with another? 00:51:40.53\00:51:41.90 Now listen carefully. 00:51:42.32\00:51:43.69 I want to compare this with a computer so that you'll 00:51:43.72\00:51:45.91 always remember this and never forget it. 00:51:45.94\00:51:47.77 Okay? 00:51:47.80\00:51:49.17 Let's compare a computer with the body. 00:51:49.60\00:51:52.14 Is a computer a material object? 00:51:52.17\00:51:56.03 Is it composed of matter? 00:51:56.06\00:51:57.43 It most certainly is. 00:51:57.46\00:51:58.83 Does the computer have a brain? 00:51:58.86\00:52:00.42 So to speak. 00:52:01.08\00:52:02.45 Yes, it has a processor.
