Let's bow our heads for prayer.
00:00:31.11\00:00:32.59
Our loving heavenly
Father, we can't help but admire
00:00:34.07\00:00:37.15
what a wise and
wonderful God You are.
00:00:37.96\00:00:40.69
How You take great pains
to solve the sin problem,
00:00:41.71\00:00:45.97
and at the same time
convince all of Your creatures
00:00:46.45\00:00:49.86
that You are just and
loving in all of Your ways.
00:00:50.16\00:00:53.34
Father, we ask that as
we open Your Word today
00:00:54.33\00:00:56.88
to study a little
more about this judgment,
00:00:56.91\00:01:01.17
that Your Holy Spirit will
be with us to guide our thoughts
00:01:01.60\00:01:04.59
and to open our hearts.
00:01:04.88\00:01:06.68
We thank You,
Father, for the privilege of
00:01:07.26\00:01:08.93
being in Your presence.
00:01:08.96\00:01:10.21
And we ask that You
will be with us and guide us.
00:01:10.61\00:01:16.31
Because we ask it in the
precious name of Jesus, amen.
00:01:16.54\00:01:20.92
In our last presentation, we
studied about the three distinct
00:01:23.45\00:01:28.41
phases or
stages of the judgment.
00:01:28.44\00:01:31.46
We noticed that
there's a pre-advent stage
00:01:32.09\00:01:34.87
that is before Jesus
comes, before probation closes,
00:01:34.90\00:01:38.40
that involves those who claimed
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
00:01:38.74\00:01:44.94
Those are the only ones
that enter in perspective
00:01:45.33\00:01:48.20
before the close of probation.
00:01:48.45\00:01:50.15
And the reason is
that Jesus is going to come
00:01:50.80\00:01:53.93
to take them to heaven.
00:01:53.96\00:01:55.23
So it has to be
revealed that He has a right
00:01:55.52\00:01:58.54
to take them to
heaven before the universe.
00:01:58.57\00:02:01.26
The second stage of
the judgment takes place
00:02:01.77\00:02:03.93
during the 1000 years.
00:02:03.96\00:02:05.63
And that stage of the judgment
will be performed by the saints,
00:02:06.25\00:02:10.26
according to
Revelation 20 verse 4
00:02:10.46\00:02:12.57
and 1
Corinthians 6 verses 1 to 3.
00:02:12.60\00:02:15.11
Those who will be
judged will be the wicked
00:02:15.78\00:02:18.41
who are on planet earth dead,
00:02:18.61\00:02:20.45
as well as the devil and
his angels will be judged
00:02:20.91\00:02:24.62
by the saints.
00:02:24.65\00:02:26.18
The third stage of
the judgment takes place
00:02:26.70\00:02:29.32
after the 1000 years.
00:02:29.35\00:02:31.31
And after the 1000 years
the wicked will resurrect,
00:02:32.02\00:02:35.22
and then they will be
able to see the records
00:02:35.43\00:02:38.41
that the saints went
over during the 1000 years.
00:02:38.44\00:02:42.23
They will be able to see
the justice of their sentence.
00:02:42.53\00:02:46.45
And they will bow, along with
everyone else in the universe,
00:02:46.61\00:02:50.78
and admit that God acted
correctly in every single case.
00:02:51.09\00:02:58.90
Now today we're going
to study the same theme
00:02:59.66\00:03:03.20
or the same topic, but
from a different perspective.
00:03:03.23\00:03:06.16
We're going to deal with
Leviticus 16, the scapegoat,
00:03:06.69\00:03:12.20
and Revelation's millennium.
00:03:12.56\00:03:14.35
And I'd like to begin by
going to the book of Hebrews
00:03:14.91\00:03:18.45
chapter 8 and
verses 1 through 6.
00:03:18.48\00:03:21.62
We've already said
in previous lectures
00:03:22.24\00:03:24.89
that the earthly
Sanctuary was an object lesson
00:03:24.92\00:03:28.83
that taught the way in which
God resolves the sin problem.
00:03:28.86\00:03:34.01
And I'd like to read
this passage again because it
00:03:34.66\00:03:37.10
sets the stage for understanding
how God solves the sin problem
00:03:37.13\00:03:42.68
in heaven, illustrating
it with the earthly Sanctuary
00:03:42.71\00:03:47.39
with the object
lesson that we can see.
00:03:47.42\00:03:50.27
Hebrews chapter 8
and verse 1 says...
00:03:51.27\00:03:54.01
So the heavenly Sanctuary
is the true tabernacle.
00:04:17.08\00:04:19.58
And then verse 3 says...
00:04:20.16\00:04:21.54
That is, Jesus Christ.
00:04:31.76\00:04:32.97
And now notice verse 5.
00:04:44.67\00:04:46.24
So what was the earthly
Sanctuary and its services?
00:04:52.15\00:04:55.19
The services of the high priest?
00:04:55.39\00:04:57.25
They were what?
00:04:57.45\00:04:58.52
Shadows and copies
of the heavenly things.
00:04:58.55\00:05:02.66
Verse 6, "But now He,"
that is Jesus, "has obtained
00:05:15.72\00:05:20.35
a more excellent
ministry, inasmuch as He is also
00:05:20.38\00:05:26.27
Mediator of a better
covenant, which was established
00:05:26.30\00:05:30.92
on better promises."
00:05:31.12\00:05:33.27
So the new covenant is better
because the blood of Jesus
00:05:33.68\00:05:36.90
really removed sin.
00:05:36.93\00:05:38.64
The blood of Jesus actually
deals with the sin problem.
00:05:39.45\00:05:43.45
The blood of bulls and
goats cannot take away sin.
00:05:43.48\00:05:48.86
Now what we want to do
as we begin our study today
00:05:49.82\00:05:52.77
is take a look at the daily
service in the Hebrew Sanctuary.
00:05:52.80\00:05:58.15
And I'm going to review it.
00:05:58.25\00:05:59.74
If you read the first
fifteen chapter of Leviticus,
00:05:59.77\00:06:04.44
you're going to find
several different passages
00:06:04.65\00:06:07.56
that speak about the way
in which the daily service
00:06:07.59\00:06:11.24
in the Sanctuary took place.
00:06:11.27\00:06:13.15
But basically, this is
the outline of what took place
00:06:13.42\00:06:18.08
in the daily service.
00:06:18.11\00:06:19.68
First of all,
we have the sinner.
00:06:20.14\00:06:22.17
And of course,
the sinner is guilty.
00:06:22.65\00:06:25.23
And therefore should die.
00:06:25.60\00:06:27.90
But of course, God does
not want the sinner to die.
00:06:28.87\00:06:31.38
And so the sinner can
bring an unblemished animal...
00:06:32.03\00:06:36.90
And let's use the
lamb as our example.
00:06:37.43\00:06:39.57
Although there
were other clean animals
00:06:39.60\00:06:41.43
that were also sacrificed.
00:06:41.46\00:06:42.98
But the sinner could
bring an unblemished lamb,
00:06:43.22\00:06:46.79
which represented Jesus Christ.
00:06:47.21\00:06:49.23
And we're told there
in several of the episodes
00:06:49.87\00:06:52.50
that the sinner or the
priest would place his hand
00:06:52.60\00:06:56.82
on the head of the
immaculate unblemished victim
00:06:56.85\00:07:01.92
and confess the sin of
that person upon the head
00:07:01.95\00:07:07.41
of the animal.
00:07:07.44\00:07:08.73
Now we need to
understand the reason why
00:07:09.34\00:07:11.15
it was placed on the head.
00:07:11.18\00:07:12.75
What do you have in your head?
00:07:12.94\00:07:14.43
Your brain.
00:07:14.80\00:07:15.83
And the brain is
the organ of the mind.
00:07:15.86\00:07:18.56
Where were the
sins placed upon Jesus?
00:07:18.81\00:07:21.36
Where did He feel the
tremendous burden of sin?
00:07:21.39\00:07:24.46
It was in His conscience,
or it was in His mind.
00:07:24.77\00:07:28.25
And so we find here that
the sinner would place his hand,
00:07:28.89\00:07:31.83
or the priest
sometimes, would place his hand
00:07:31.86\00:07:34.02
on the head of the victim
and he would confess the sin
00:07:34.05\00:07:38.08
on the head of the victim.
00:07:38.11\00:07:39.47
In this way the sin was
transferred from the sinner
00:07:39.50\00:07:44.05
to the victim.
00:07:44.31\00:07:45.77
And then the sinner or
the priest would take a knife
00:07:46.62\00:07:50.45
and he would shed
the blood of that animal.
00:07:50.83\00:07:54.02
And the sinner could
go home with the certainty
00:07:54.99\00:08:00.53
of forgiveness.
00:08:00.56\00:08:02.64
Because the sin had been
transferred from the sinner
00:08:03.55\00:08:06.79
to the victim, and the victim
had died in place of the sinner.
00:08:06.82\00:08:11.96
This is the ceremony
that is described primarily
00:08:12.91\00:08:16.32
in Leviticus chapter
1 through chapter 15.
00:08:16.35\00:08:20.03
Now I'm going to read a few
examples from these chapters
00:08:20.06\00:08:24.20
of Leviticus so that we
can catch a picture of this.
00:08:24.23\00:08:27.24
Leviticus chapter 5 and
verse 10, after speaking
00:08:28.02\00:08:31.35
about one of the
sacrifices, it says this...
00:08:31.38\00:08:35.11
Now notice that this
was an individual work.
00:08:40.59\00:08:43.69
Is this an individual thing?
00:08:58.51\00:09:00.24
It most certainly is.
00:09:00.62\00:09:02.08
Notice the personal
pronoun used several times.
00:09:02.11\00:09:05.13
"...his behalf...his
sin which he has committed,
00:09:05.16\00:09:08.10
and it shall be forgiven him."
00:09:08.13\00:09:10.66
Notice also Leviticus
chapter 5 and verse 13.
00:09:11.24\00:09:14.30
Leviticus 5 and verse 13.
00:09:14.33\00:09:16.78
It says there...
00:09:17.28\00:09:18.31
Once again this is
an issue of forgiveness,
00:09:29.76\00:09:33.41
and it is an individual thing.
00:09:33.44\00:09:35.59
Now notice Psalm
51 verses 1 and 2.
00:09:36.18\00:09:39.22
This is the penitential
psalm of David when David
00:09:39.65\00:09:44.26
committed his sin
of adultery and murder.
00:09:44.29\00:09:47.17
And notice what David prayed.
00:09:48.01\00:09:49.83
What was it that was
cleansed in the daily service?
00:10:10.87\00:10:14.12
Was it the
sinner or the Sanctuary?
00:10:14.43\00:10:16.86
What was
cleansed was the sinner.
00:10:17.56\00:10:19.99
The sinner was
forgiven and cleansed of his sin
00:10:20.02\00:10:23.33
in the daily service.
00:10:23.36\00:10:25.06
Let's notice also Leviticus
chapter 17 and verse 11.
00:10:25.33\00:10:28.98
Leviticus 17 verse 11.
00:10:29.21\00:10:31.35
Here it speaks about
the sacrifices on the altar.
00:10:31.38\00:10:34.50
And we are told...
00:10:34.53\00:10:35.92
And God is speaking.
00:10:39.33\00:10:40.73
Now an interesting detail about
Leviticus is that if you read
00:10:52.67\00:10:57.15
chapters 1 through 15, there
are certain words that appear
00:10:57.18\00:11:01.31
time after time.
00:11:01.34\00:11:02.75
These words are, for
example, "sin," "transgression,"
00:11:03.25\00:11:07.79
"uncleanness," and "iniquity."
00:11:07.82\00:11:10.97
And almost every single
time that these words appear
00:11:11.46\00:11:15.06
in Leviticus chapter
1 through chapter 15,
00:11:15.09\00:11:17.67
they appear in the singular.
00:11:17.70\00:11:19.85
In other words it's not, "sins,"
it's not, "transgressions,"
00:11:20.35\00:11:24.35
it's not, "iniquities."
00:11:24.38\00:11:26.23
It is, "sin," "transgression,"
"uncleanness," and "iniquity."
00:11:26.26\00:11:31.96
And the reason why is
because in the daily service
00:11:32.26\00:11:34.91
you're dealing
with the individual.
00:11:34.94\00:11:36.91
The individual
needs forgiveness.
00:11:37.12\00:11:39.21
The individual needs cleansing.
00:11:39.24\00:11:42.36
Now let's look at
the fulfillment of this.
00:11:43.02\00:11:45.83
What is it that fulfilled these
ceremonies that we read about
00:11:45.86\00:11:50.49
in the Old Testament?
00:11:50.52\00:11:51.68
Let's go to 1 John
chapter 1 and verse 9.
00:11:52.08\00:11:55.03
How was the daily
service fulfilled?
00:11:55.06\00:11:57.50
With individuals.
00:11:57.53\00:11:59.02
Let's notice, 1 John 1 verse 9.
00:11:59.05\00:12:02.06
So if we confess our
sins, whom does Jesus cleanse?
00:12:18.71\00:12:21.87
The Sanctuary?
00:12:22.70\00:12:24.07
No, He cleanses us
from unrighteousness.
00:12:24.10\00:12:27.69
He forgives our sins.
00:12:27.72\00:12:30.63
Notice Acts
chapter 2 and verse 38.
00:12:30.86\00:12:33.52
Once again, the daily
service was an individual thing.
00:12:33.55\00:12:37.57
The individual was cleansed,
the Sanctuary was not cleansed.
00:12:37.60\00:12:41.09
Acts 2 verse 38.
00:12:41.12\00:12:43.24
It says here...
00:12:43.55\00:12:44.78
And this is Peter preaching
on the day of Pentecost.
00:12:44.81\00:12:47.19
Is this an individual thing?
00:12:56.26\00:12:57.73
Absolutely.
00:12:57.92\00:12:58.95
"The remission;" other versions
translate, "forgiveness."
00:13:05.71\00:13:08.93
It's the same thing.
00:13:08.96\00:13:10.09
Once again, the
personal pronoun.
00:13:13.22\00:13:14.68
So is repentance
an individual thing?
00:13:16.70\00:13:20.14
Absolutely.
00:13:20.58\00:13:21.61
"Each one of you," it says.
00:13:21.64\00:13:22.82
Is baptism an
individual thing? Absolutely.
00:13:22.85\00:13:25.63
Is forgiveness
an individual thing?
00:13:25.78\00:13:28.24
Absolutely.
00:13:28.69\00:13:29.72
Hebrews 9 verse 22.
00:13:30.16\00:13:32.21
Hebrews chapter
9 verse 22 says...
00:13:32.76\00:13:35.70
This is talking
about the ceremonial law.
00:13:38.45\00:13:40.21
The word, "remission,"
means, "forgiveness."
00:13:49.03\00:13:50.59
Don't get confused, it's
not a different Greek word.
00:13:50.62\00:13:52.66
Whenever you find,
"forgiveness," and, "remission,"
00:13:52.69\00:13:54.90
it's the same Greek word.
00:13:54.93\00:13:56.62
So notice that
without shedding of blood,
00:13:57.25\00:13:59.72
there is no remission of sin.
00:13:59.93\00:14:01.63
Now notice Revelation
chapter 1 and verse 5.
00:14:02.06\00:14:04.96
We're looking at how the
daily service was fulfilled.
00:14:04.99\00:14:08.26
Individual work of
cleansing the sinner
00:14:08.29\00:14:11.47
and forgiving the
individual sinner.
00:14:11.77\00:14:14.40
Revelation 1 verse 5
says, speaking about Jesus...
00:14:14.60\00:14:18.13
Who did Jesus wash,
the Sanctuary or us?
00:14:27.72\00:14:30.76
He washed us in
the daily service.
00:14:31.29\00:14:34.25
One final text, Acts
chapter 5 and verse 31.
00:14:34.47\00:14:38.23
Acts chapter 5 and verse 31.
00:14:38.26\00:14:40.76
Speaking about Jesus, and
this is Peter who is speaking.
00:14:41.15\00:14:44.12
What was it
that was contemplated
00:14:57.38\00:14:59.17
in the daily service?
00:14:59.20\00:15:00.55
Was it the
cleansing of the Sanctuary
00:15:00.92\00:15:02.89
or was it the
cleansing of the sinner?
00:15:02.92\00:15:04.91
It was the cleansing of the
sinner, according to Scripture.
00:15:05.32\00:15:08.62
When we receive Jesus
Christ as Savior and Lord,
00:15:09.09\00:15:11.90
when we repent,
when we confess our sins,
00:15:12.10\00:15:14.43
when we trust in Jesus
Christ and we claim Him as our
00:15:14.46\00:15:18.60
High Priest, Jesus
takes His life and His death
00:15:18.63\00:15:22.69
and places them to our account,
and He looks upon us as if
00:15:22.72\00:15:26.87
we had never sinned.
00:15:26.90\00:15:27.93
In other words, we are forgiven.
00:15:27.96\00:15:30.50
We are cleansed from our sin.
00:15:30.53\00:15:33.12
Is that clear
00:15:33.22\00:15:34.36
But now listen.
00:15:34.81\00:15:35.84
That's not where the
Sanctuary service ended.
00:15:35.87\00:15:38.52
Because once the
sinner was forgiven,
00:15:39.09\00:15:42.29
the Bible tells us that
the priest would take the blood
00:15:42.49\00:15:46.78
into the Sanctuary and
he would sprinkle the blood
00:15:46.88\00:15:52.17
in the Sanctuary.
00:15:52.20\00:15:53.90
Now where was the
record of sin at this point?
00:15:54.83\00:15:58.07
The sin was no
longer upon the sinner.
00:15:58.38\00:16:01.11
The sin was
placed on the victim.
00:16:02.05\00:16:04.09
In other words, the blood
of the victim was defiled.
00:16:04.63\00:16:08.13
Because it had
the sin of the sinner.
00:16:08.16\00:16:11.09
And so when the blood
was taken into the Sanctuary,
00:16:11.59\00:16:14.63
what happened
with the Sanctuary?
00:16:14.93\00:16:16.93
The Sanctuary became what?
00:16:17.13\00:16:18.97
Defiled by the record of
sin that had been transferred
00:16:19.19\00:16:22.35
to the blood of the victim.
00:16:22.38\00:16:24.11
Now one question
that people come up with,
00:16:24.60\00:16:27.12
they say, "How is it
possible that a holy Sanctuary
00:16:27.15\00:16:32.27
could have unholy sin?"
00:16:33.10\00:16:35.16
Well I ask them
another question.
00:16:36.73\00:16:39.90
I say, "How is it that Jesus
Christ, who was very, very holy,
00:16:39.93\00:16:44.31
could have sin upon Himself?"
00:16:44.77\00:16:46.79
In fact let's
notice, regarding Jesus,
00:16:47.39\00:16:49.74
Hebrews chapter 7 verse 26 what
we're told about Jesus Christ.
00:16:49.77\00:16:53.92
Hebrews chapter 7
and verse 26 says...
00:16:54.24\00:16:56.93
Was Jesus undefiled and
perfect and unblemished?
00:17:09.08\00:17:12.34
Yes or no?
00:17:12.37\00:17:13.40
He was holy.
00:17:13.43\00:17:14.66
But did Jesus take sin
upon Himself in spite of the
00:17:15.05\00:17:18.44
fact that He was holy?
00:17:18.47\00:17:19.66
Absolutely.
00:17:19.77\00:17:20.84
Notice 2 Corinthians
chapter 5 and verse 21.
00:17:21.04\00:17:24.02
2 Corinthians
chapter 5 and verse 21.
00:17:24.05\00:17:26.67
Here it says, "For
He," that is God the Father,
00:17:27.28\00:17:30.13
"made Him," that is Jesus...
00:17:30.33\00:17:32.70
See, He knew no sin.
00:17:36.43\00:17:37.70
But He was made what?
00:17:37.73\00:17:39.07
Sin for us.
00:17:39.10\00:17:40.52
Now the sin that
Jesus bore was not His own.
00:17:44.49\00:17:47.14
It was alien to Christ.
00:17:47.64\00:17:49.21
It was imputed to Him.
00:17:49.24\00:17:51.22
It was credited to
Him, but it was not His.
00:17:51.25\00:17:55.51
However, He was a Holy Being
that was bearing what? Sin.
00:17:55.71\00:18:00.19
In the same way the
Sanctuary is a holy place,
00:18:00.32\00:18:04.23
but it bears the record of what?
00:18:04.33\00:18:06.65
The record of sin.
00:18:06.97\00:18:08.15
But it's not God's sin.
00:18:08.18\00:18:09.94
Whose sin is it?
00:18:09.97\00:18:11.11
It's the sin of the sinner
that is placed in the Sanctuary.
00:18:11.14\00:18:14.12
Are you clear on this point?
00:18:14.15\00:18:15.53
Very, very important.
00:18:15.56\00:18:16.82
Now, let's notice what
the Bible has to say about
00:18:17.74\00:18:21.95
the transfer of sin from
the priest into the Sanctuary.
00:18:21.98\00:18:26.97
And it was transferred
in two different ways.
00:18:27.00\00:18:29.21
Go with me to Leviticus
chapter 4 verses 5 through 7.
00:18:29.24\00:18:32.75
We could take many
examples from the first
00:18:32.78\00:18:34.75
15 chapters of Leviticus.
00:18:34.78\00:18:36.22
I just chose some at random.
00:18:36.40\00:18:38.25
Because we don't have
time to study them all.
00:18:38.28\00:18:40.09
Each one has their own nuance.
00:18:40.12\00:18:42.04
Notice Leviticus chapter
4 and verses 5 through 7.
00:18:42.26\00:18:45.18
This is one way in
which the sin of the sinner
00:18:45.21\00:18:48.91
was transferred into the
Sanctuary through the blood.
00:18:48.94\00:18:52.86
It says here, "Then the
anointed priest shall take
00:18:52.89\00:18:56.37
some of the bull's blood..."
00:18:56.40\00:18:57.78
In this case it's a bull because
it's the sacrifice that's
00:18:57.81\00:19:00.94
offered for leaders of Israel.
00:19:00.97\00:19:02.57
And so it says...
00:19:02.86\00:19:03.89
That is the veil
that divided the Holy from
00:19:18.59\00:19:20.47
the Most Holy Place.
00:19:20.50\00:19:21.69
So was the blood of the victim
transferred into the Sanctuary?
00:19:21.80\00:19:25.78
It most certainly was.
00:19:25.81\00:19:27.04
And along with the
blood, what was transferred
00:19:27.07\00:19:29.61
to the Sanctuary?
00:19:29.64\00:19:30.82
The sin that the
blood was bearing.
00:19:30.97\00:19:35.09
Now there was another way
in which sin was transferred
00:19:35.12\00:19:37.58
into the Sanctuary.
00:19:37.61\00:19:38.64
And that is if the high priest,
or a priest, in the Holy Place
00:19:38.67\00:19:44.14
ate the flesh of the sacrifice.
00:19:44.17\00:19:46.65
Now notice Leviticus
chapter 10 and verses 17 and 18.
00:19:46.99\00:19:50.99
Leviticus chapter 10
and verses 17 and 18.
00:19:51.30\00:19:54.36
Moses was kind of mad
because they had not done this.
00:19:54.60\00:19:57.84
And notice what he
says to the priests who had
00:19:57.87\00:20:00.74
consumed the
sacrifice and had not eaten it
00:20:00.77\00:20:03.26
the way they should have.
00:20:03.29\00:20:04.40
He says...
00:20:04.65\00:20:05.68
You see, sin was
transferred into the Sanctuary
00:20:29.03\00:20:31.67
either by the blood or it was
transferred into the Sanctuary
00:20:31.70\00:20:35.11
by the priest eating the flesh
of the victim in the Sanctuary.
00:20:35.14\00:20:39.38
Now the question is, how is
this fulfilled in the anti-type?
00:20:39.41\00:20:43.64
How is it fulfilled in reality?
00:20:43.67\00:20:46.12
Go with me to
Hebrews chapter 9:11-12.
00:20:46.42\00:20:49.50
Because, you know, we
just dealt with the symbolism
00:20:49.53\00:20:52.17
from the Old
Testament Sanctuary.
00:20:52.20\00:20:53.62
But how was it fulfilled
in reality in the greater
00:20:53.65\00:20:56.73
tabernacle in heaven?
00:20:56.94\00:20:58.53
Hebrews chapter
9 verses 11 and 12.
00:20:58.56\00:21:01.30
It says here...
00:21:01.33\00:21:02.46
A better translation
is, "not of this creation."
00:21:17.93\00:21:20.09
I'm reading from the King James
version which is more accurate.
00:21:31.53\00:21:34.17
So when the priest entered
the Holy Place of the Sanctuary
00:21:39.36\00:21:43.05
and sprinkled the blood,
that represented the fact that
00:21:43.08\00:21:45.87
Jesus takes His
blood into the Sanctuary.
00:21:45.90\00:21:48.85
And when we sin, our sin
is transferred to Christ.
00:21:48.88\00:21:52.07
And Christ introduces
it into the Sanctuary.
00:21:52.10\00:21:55.46
In other words, it's
recorded in the Sanctuary.
00:21:55.49\00:21:57.73
The veil, in other words,
represents the books of heaven.
00:21:57.76\00:22:00.87
Does God keep a record
in heaven of our lives?
00:22:01.58\00:22:04.00
Does He keep a
record of our words?
00:22:04.52\00:22:06.51
Jesus said in Matthew chapter 12
that by your words you will be
00:22:07.41\00:22:10.70
justified, or by your
words you will be condemned.
00:22:10.73\00:22:13.25
Does He keep a
record of our works?
00:22:13.60\00:22:15.63
The Bible says we will
be judged by our works.
00:22:15.91\00:22:18.32
Does He keep a
record of our secret things?
00:22:18.60\00:22:21.12
Ecclesiastes chapter 12,
the last two verses say that
00:22:21.31\00:22:24.02
even the secret things will be
brought forth in the judgment.
00:22:24.05\00:22:26.72
In other words, He has an
exact transcript or record
00:22:27.31\00:22:30.79
of the sins that have entered
the Sanctuary through the blood.
00:22:30.82\00:22:33.62
Now don't be, you know,
don't think that this is
00:22:33.65\00:22:37.76
something bad for you.
00:22:37.79\00:22:39.73
"Oh, my sins are
written up there."
00:22:39.76\00:22:41.43
Listen, if you put them in
the Sanctuary through the blood,
00:22:41.46\00:22:44.46
you don't have to worry.
00:22:44.76\00:22:45.98
Because if you didn't
put them in the Sanctuary,
00:22:46.95\00:22:49.25
repentant and confessed
into the Sanctuary by the blood,
00:22:49.28\00:22:53.04
then you still
have them upon yourself.
00:22:53.07\00:22:55.07
So just make sure that you
come to Jesus Christ boldly
00:22:55.38\00:22:59.13
and you send the
sins into the Sanctuary
00:22:59.16\00:23:01.68
so that when they're
written in the books,
00:23:01.71\00:23:03.66
"forgiven" is written
next to the sins in the book.
00:23:03.76\00:23:07.58
Now, when the sins were
introduced into the Sanctuary,
00:23:08.04\00:23:11.55
what happened
with the Sanctuary?
00:23:12.77\00:23:14.56
The Sanctuary was
defiled by the record of sin.
00:23:15.54\00:23:19.12
They were forgiven sins,
but the sins were still recorded
00:23:19.32\00:23:23.19
in the Sanctuary.
00:23:23.39\00:23:24.93
So what needed to happen?
00:23:25.95\00:23:27.64
At some point the
Sanctuary needed to be what?
00:23:27.84\00:23:31.94
The Sanctuary needed to be
cleansed from the record of sin.
00:23:32.39\00:23:37.17
Had the sinner
already been forgiven?
00:23:37.95\00:23:40.16
Yes. Could the sinner
go home and sleep well?
00:23:40.64\00:23:43.53
Absolutely.
00:23:43.88\00:23:45.07
The sinner could have a
clear conscience because he had
00:23:45.10\00:23:47.77
presented his sins to his
Advocate in the Sanctuary.
00:23:47.80\00:23:51.29
And the Advocate had
placed the sins in the Sanctuary
00:23:51.49\00:23:54.29
covered by His blood.
00:23:54.32\00:23:55.62
That's good news.
00:23:55.72\00:23:56.90
You know some people say,
"Adventists, they don't have
00:23:56.93\00:23:58.89
any assurance of
salvation because they believe
00:23:58.92\00:24:00.94
your sins are
written up in heaven."
00:24:00.97\00:24:02.58
Yeah, they're written
in heaven, but they're
00:24:02.61\00:24:04.02
covered by the blood.
00:24:04.05\00:24:05.16
Which is really good news.
00:24:05.83\00:24:07.73
You know, if they're not
up there, where are they?
00:24:08.20\00:24:10.62
They're here.
00:24:10.93\00:24:11.96
You better send them up there.
00:24:11.99\00:24:13.66
That's your greatest
assurance; through repentance
00:24:13.69\00:24:16.38
and through
confession and through trusting
00:24:16.41\00:24:19.12
in the merits of Christ.
00:24:19.15\00:24:21.17
So in other words,
the Sanctuary, even though
00:24:21.27\00:24:23.40
these sins did not
belong to the Sanctuary,
00:24:23.43\00:24:25.49
they're alien to the Sanctuary,
the Sanctuary assimilated
00:24:25.52\00:24:29.40
these sins even
though they did not
00:24:29.60\00:24:31.92
belong to the holy Sanctuary.
00:24:31.95\00:24:33.32
Just like Jesus took our
sins that did not belong to Him.
00:24:33.42\00:24:36.96
Are you
understanding what I'm saying?
00:24:36.99\00:24:38.47
Now, was the sinner
cleansed by the daily service?
00:24:39.24\00:24:43.76
Yes.
00:24:43.90\00:24:44.93
Was the Sanctuary
cleansed by the daily service?
00:24:44.96\00:24:48.31
No. By the daily service
the Sanctuary was defiled.
00:24:48.41\00:24:52.21
So what needed to
happen to the Sanctuary?
00:24:52.89\00:24:55.39
It needed to be cleansed.
00:24:55.65\00:24:57.48
Does the Bible
speak about cleansing
00:24:58.35\00:24:59.84
the heavenly Sanctuary?
00:24:59.87\00:25:01.22
Let's read Daniel
chapter 8 and verse 14,
00:25:01.61\00:25:04.27
which we've looked at before.
00:25:04.30\00:25:05.69
Daniel chapter 8
and verse 14 says...
00:25:05.72\00:25:08.19
And what Sanctuary is this?
00:25:16.96\00:25:18.69
It is the heavenly Sanctuary.
00:25:19.03\00:25:20.36
We've already studied this
previously in our lectures.
00:25:20.39\00:25:23.45
Notice also
Hebrews 9 and verse 23.
00:25:23.76\00:25:27.46
This text tells us that there's
something in heaven that's
00:25:27.49\00:25:30.22
defiled that
needs to be cleansed.
00:25:30.25\00:25:32.13
Hebrews 9 and verse 23 says...
00:25:32.46\00:25:35.49
Was the earthly Sanctuary
cleansed by the sacrifices
00:25:53.06\00:25:56.62
by the blood that was shed?
00:25:56.65\00:25:58.06
Yes. Must the
heavenly things be cleansed
00:25:58.09\00:26:01.51
with better blood than
the blood that was used
00:26:01.54\00:26:04.07
in the Sanctuary in
the Old Testament service?
00:26:04.10\00:26:06.44
Absolutely.
00:26:06.47\00:26:07.70
Now, when was the
Sanctuary cleansed?
00:26:08.18\00:26:10.58
It was actually
cleansed once a year
00:26:11.22\00:26:13.30
on what is known as
the Day of Atonement.
00:26:13.88\00:26:16.20
So we need to take a look at the
service of the Day of Atonement.
00:26:16.70\00:26:19.91
According to
Leviticus 16 and verse 7,
00:26:20.49\00:26:22.82
on the Day of
Atonement two goats were chosen,
00:26:22.85\00:26:26.06
and lots were case.
00:26:26.66\00:26:28.91
And one of them was going
to be a goat for the Lord,
00:26:29.51\00:26:33.14
and the other goat was going to
be the scapegoat, or for Azazel.
00:26:33.17\00:26:38.53
Now let's read about
that in Leviticus chapter 16
00:26:38.82\00:26:42.11
and verse 7.
00:26:42.14\00:26:43.91
Leviticus 16 and verse 7.
00:26:43.94\00:26:47.08
So you have two
goats; one for the Lord
00:26:58.16\00:27:01.06
and one for Azazel.
00:27:01.76\00:27:03.31
And they're
presented at the door of the
00:27:03.67\00:27:05.99
tabernacle of meeting.
00:27:06.02\00:27:08.10
Now some people say,
"Why in the world did
00:27:09.43\00:27:15.33
this have to take place?
00:27:15.36\00:27:16.81
Why did you have to
have one goat for the Lord
00:27:16.84\00:27:19.10
and another goat for Azazel?"
00:27:19.47\00:27:21.28
Well, the goat for
the Lord had the purpose
00:27:22.14\00:27:24.37
of cleansing the Sanctuary.
00:27:24.47\00:27:26.61
We need to
understand that first.
00:27:26.81\00:27:28.81
Now whose sins were in
view on the Day of Atonement?
00:27:29.74\00:27:33.11
Was it the sins of all of the
unrighteous that came to view
00:27:33.14\00:27:36.25
on the Day of Atonement?
00:27:36.28\00:27:37.31
Which were the only
sins that were considered
00:27:37.57\00:27:39.72
on the Day of Atonement?
00:27:39.75\00:27:41.06
Only the sins that through the
course of the year had, what?
00:27:41.16\00:27:44.42
Had entered the
Sanctuary through the blood.
00:27:44.45\00:27:46.74
And some people might say,
"Why did God have to examine
00:27:46.77\00:27:50.86
the records in the
heavenly Sanctuary?
00:27:50.89\00:27:52.77
Didn't He forgive the sin of the
sinner when a sinner confessed
00:27:52.95\00:27:56.55
his sin and repented and
trusted in the merits of Christ?
00:27:56.58\00:27:59.46
Wasn't that enough?"
00:27:59.49\00:28:00.66
Let me explain.
00:28:01.31\00:28:02.46
Are all
Christians true Christians?
00:28:03.58\00:28:06.16
Is there such a thing
as counterfeit Christians?
00:28:09.05\00:28:11.61
If you don't believe it,
let me give you some examples.
00:28:12.81\00:28:15.04
Jesus said, "Not everyone
who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord...'"
00:28:16.43\00:28:20.07
Are those Christians?
00:28:21.36\00:28:22.58
Of course.
00:28:23.24\00:28:24.32
"...will enter
the kingdom of heaven.
00:28:24.80\00:28:26.51
But he who does the will
of My Father who is in heaven.
00:28:26.90\00:28:29.33
Many shall say to Me
in that day, 'Lord, Lord,
00:28:30.07\00:28:32.37
did we not perform
miracles in Your name?
00:28:32.40\00:28:34.30
Lord, Lord, did we not
cast out demons in Your name?
00:28:34.82\00:28:37.72
Lord, Lord, did we not
prophesy in Your name?'"
00:28:38.33\00:28:40.68
And Jesus is going to say, "Yeah
thank you for using My name.
00:28:40.71\00:28:43.08
Come, You're mine."
00:28:43.11\00:28:44.14
No.
00:28:44.65\00:28:45.68
He says, "I never knew you.
00:28:45.76\00:28:47.87
Depart from Me, you
workers of iniquity."
00:28:48.23\00:28:51.03
Does the Bible say
that even some ministers
00:28:51.65\00:28:53.87
disguise themselves as
ministers of righteousness?
00:28:53.90\00:28:56.51
Absolutely.
00:28:56.75\00:28:57.78
Does the Bible
tell us that there are
00:28:57.98\00:28:59.56
wheat and tares in the church?
00:28:59.59\00:29:01.88
Absolutely.
00:29:01.91\00:29:02.94
Does the Bible tell us
that the gospel net gathers
00:29:02.97\00:29:06.13
good fish and bad fish
and they need to be separated?
00:29:06.16\00:29:10.35
That's the judgment, by the way.
00:29:10.38\00:29:11.97
Does the Bible tell us
that there were wise virgins
00:29:12.00\00:29:14.64
and also foolish virgins?
00:29:14.67\00:29:16.69
Did they all
claim to be Christians?
00:29:17.01\00:29:18.79
Yes, because they all had lamps,
which represent the Bible,
00:29:18.82\00:29:21.97
and they all had a
certain measure of oil.
00:29:22.00\00:29:25.06
So is there such a
thing as people who profess
00:29:26.18\00:29:29.15
to believe in Jesus Christ but
they are counterfeit believers?
00:29:29.18\00:29:32.86
Absolutely.
00:29:32.89\00:29:34.16
Must Jesus bring forth the
names in the judgment to show
00:29:34.60\00:29:39.29
who truly repented
of sin and confessed sin
00:29:39.32\00:29:44.04
and trusted in the merits
of Jesus, and their life showed
00:29:44.07\00:29:47.82
that they had a faith
that worked, yes or no?
00:29:47.85\00:29:50.01
Absolutely.
00:29:50.04\00:29:51.29
In other words, the purpose
of the judgment is to reveal
00:29:51.40\00:29:54.30
if repentance
was genuine or not.
00:29:54.40\00:29:57.62
And only those who
profess the name of Jesus Christ
00:29:58.91\00:30:02.10
are actually even
looked at during this
00:30:02.30\00:30:04.66
stage of the judgment.
00:30:04.69\00:30:05.73
Because, as I
mentioned, when Jesus comes,
00:30:05.76\00:30:08.21
He's going to take them home.
00:30:08.24\00:30:09.68
So it's urgent to decide
who He has a right to take home.
00:30:10.03\00:30:13.95
He needs to reveal to the
universe, "These are Mine."
00:30:13.98\00:30:16.84
He's going to open the
records and He's going to show
00:30:16.87\00:30:19.04
whether they
were genuine or not.
00:30:19.07\00:30:20.98
And the heavenly
beings are going to say,
00:30:21.16\00:30:23.29
"You got it all right.
00:30:23.32\00:30:24.88
These are genuine and
these are counterfeit."
00:30:24.91\00:30:27.87
And so two goats were chosen.
00:30:28.45\00:30:30.19
Notice Leviticus
chapter 16 and verses 8 and 9.
00:30:31.43\00:30:35.30
It says here...
00:30:36.24\00:30:37.27
So who does the first goat
represent, the Lord's goat?
00:30:55.11\00:30:57.96
The Lord's goat
represents Jesus Christ.
00:30:58.61\00:31:02.14
Now listen carefully
to what I'm going to say.
00:31:02.87\00:31:04.62
A few years ago there
was a theologian of the
00:31:05.45\00:31:07.47
Adventist church, I'm not
going to mention his name,
00:31:07.50\00:31:09.65
who said that
the Day of Atonement
00:31:10.52\00:31:12.28
took place at the cross.
00:31:12.31\00:31:14.52
And Pastor Jensen
knows who I'm talking about.
00:31:15.88\00:31:19.35
Now let me tell you this.
00:31:20.27\00:31:21.61
There is one aspect
of the Day of Atonement
00:31:22.01\00:31:24.48
that was fulfilled at the cross.
00:31:24.51\00:31:26.35
The sacrificial aspect
of the Day of Atonement
00:31:26.78\00:31:30.77
was fulfilled at the cross.
00:31:30.80\00:31:31.94
Jesus does not
die again in 1844.
00:31:31.97\00:31:34.64
He died once for all.
00:31:35.22\00:31:36.81
In other words, the death
that He suffered 2000 years ago
00:31:37.11\00:31:41.48
is the blood that He
uses to cleanse the Sanctuary.
00:31:41.58\00:31:45.60
In other words, the sacrificial
aspect of the Day of Atonement
00:31:46.50\00:31:50.01
took place at the cross.
00:31:50.04\00:31:51.07
But that doesn't mean
that everything regarding
00:31:51.10\00:31:53.70
the Day of Atonement
took place at the cross.
00:31:53.73\00:31:56.07
It was only the sacrifice
of this goat that was offered
00:31:56.10\00:31:59.78
on the Day of Atonement, which
represents the fact that Jesus,
00:31:59.81\00:32:02.37
2000 years ago, sacrificed
Himself and gave His blood.
00:32:02.40\00:32:06.83
Is that point very clear?
00:32:07.03\00:32:08.70
Now listen carefully.
00:32:08.95\00:32:10.36
In Leviticus 16, those
words which were singular
00:32:11.52\00:32:16.60
in Leviticus 1 through
15 suddenly become plural
00:32:16.63\00:32:21.10
in chapter 16.
00:32:22.51\00:32:23.92
It's no longer,
"sin," it's, "sins."
00:32:24.19\00:32:26.54
It's no longer,
"iniquity," it's, "iniquities."
00:32:27.05\00:32:30.14
It's no longer, "uncleanness,"
it's, "uncleannesses."
00:32:30.76\00:32:34.47
Because what's in view
on the Day of Atonement
00:32:35.09\00:32:37.40
is the cleansing of the
corporate sin of everyone
00:32:37.43\00:32:40.81
in the camp of Israel.
00:32:40.84\00:32:41.99
It's not an individual work,
it's the cleansing of what?
00:32:42.02\00:32:45.95
Of the record of
sin in the Sanctuary.
00:32:46.10\00:32:49.73
Now let's read
Leviticus chapter 16
00:32:50.21\00:32:52.38
and verses 15 and 16.
00:32:52.41\00:32:54.57
Leviticus 16 verses 15 and 16.
00:32:54.67\00:32:57.21
And now notice the words,
"because of the uncleanness..."
00:33:20.30\00:33:23.41
Actually it's,
"uncleannesses," in the Hebrew.
00:33:23.44\00:33:26.07
Is this a corporate work
in favor of all the people?
00:33:32.09\00:33:35.13
Absolutely.
00:33:35.24\00:33:36.46
And you know, when
the Day of Atonement ended
00:33:45.93\00:33:48.64
the Sanctuary and the
people had been cleansed
00:33:49.06\00:33:51.98
from the record of sin
that had entered the Sanctuary.
00:33:52.08\00:33:56.13
Let's read that in Leviticus
chapter 16 and verse 30,
00:33:56.16\00:33:59.87
and then we'll
jump down to verse 33.
00:33:59.90\00:34:01.78
Leviticus 16 verse 30.
00:34:01.81\00:34:03.72
And when the Day
of Atonement ended,
00:34:25.45\00:34:27.56
everybody was clean.
00:34:27.59\00:34:30.39
It was a clean people,
it was a clean Sanctuary,
00:34:30.72\00:34:33.53
it was a clean
priest, it was a clean camp.
00:34:33.56\00:34:37.41
In other words,
sin had been eradicated
00:34:37.66\00:34:40.10
from the encampment of Israel.
00:34:40.13\00:34:42.06
Now there's
something very important.
00:34:43.35\00:34:44.97
And that is, that when
the Day of Atonement ended
00:34:46.10\00:34:48.93
all cases in
Israel were decided.
00:34:49.37\00:34:53.18
In the fulfillment of
this, we've studied this
00:34:53.96\00:34:56.63
in previous lectures,
what happens when the service
00:34:56.66\00:35:01.07
in the
Sanctuary comes to an end?
00:35:01.10\00:35:03.36
When probation comes to a close?
00:35:03.78\00:35:06.19
When the
Sanctuary has been cleansed?
00:35:06.22\00:35:08.22
Is there a day coming
when God is going to close the
00:35:08.25\00:35:11.26
Sanctuary service
and He's going to say,
00:35:11.29\00:35:13.33
"He who is filthy
will still be filthy,
00:35:13.36\00:35:15.50
and he who is holy
will still be holy."
00:35:15.53\00:35:17.47
Can we bring our sins
to the Sanctuary today?
00:35:18.11\00:35:20.67
Can we still confess our
sins and receive forgiveness
00:35:20.70\00:35:23.78
and have those sins covered
by the blood in the Sanctuary?
00:35:23.81\00:35:26.54
We can.
00:35:26.92\00:35:27.96
But is the day coming
when we will not be able
00:35:27.99\00:35:30.10
to introduce sin into the
Sanctuary by the blood anymore?
00:35:30.13\00:35:33.09
Absolutely.
00:35:33.42\00:35:34.47
Notice Revelation chapter
15 and verses 5 through 8.
00:35:34.50\00:35:37.68
Revelation 15:5-8,
we've read this before,
00:35:37.98\00:35:40.39
but let's read it again.
00:35:40.42\00:35:41.71
Is the cup full at this point?
00:36:02.51\00:36:04.19
Is mercy come to an end?
00:36:04.22\00:36:05.85
Yes, the full wrath of
God is going to be poured out.
00:36:05.88\00:36:08.31
And now notice verse 8.
00:36:08.34\00:36:09.78
Can we enter the Sanctuary
today by the blood of Jesus?
00:36:24.06\00:36:26.64
Can our sins enter the Sanctuary
when we repent and we confess
00:36:27.15\00:36:31.03
our sins and we
trust in Jesus Christ?
00:36:31.06\00:36:33.32
Absolutely, but the
time is coming when we will
00:36:33.35\00:36:35.62
not be able to enter.
00:36:35.65\00:36:36.80
And it's not talking
about physically entering,
00:36:36.83\00:36:38.90
it's talking
about entering by faith.
00:36:38.93\00:36:41.68
Coming to the throne of
grace boldly, as it says
00:36:41.71\00:36:45.33
in chapter 4 of
the book of Hebrews.
00:36:45.36\00:36:47.46
You understand how we
can come to the Sanctuary
00:36:47.49\00:36:49.29
today in heaven?
00:36:49.32\00:36:50.41
We come boldly
through Jesus Christ.
00:36:50.51\00:36:53.45
We also noticed in one
of our previous lectures
00:36:53.48\00:36:55.83
Revelation 22
verse 11 where it says...
00:36:55.86\00:36:58.75
Does that have a
certain ring of finality to it?
00:37:11.94\00:37:14.68
In other words, there's
a day coming when you're
00:37:15.54\00:37:17.81
going to still be filthy.
00:37:17.84\00:37:18.87
The Sanctuary
service will have closed.
00:37:18.90\00:37:20.41
We can't introduce sin
into the Sanctuary anymore.
00:37:20.44\00:37:22.79
And therefore, we will
remain defiled forever.
00:37:22.99\00:37:27.18
Now let's talk about the
last event that took place
00:37:28.04\00:37:30.47
on the Day of Atonement.
00:37:30.50\00:37:31.61
Because what has happened
is that sin has been cleansed
00:37:32.03\00:37:35.12
from the Sanctuary.
00:37:35.15\00:37:36.18
Did you understand that
the Lord's goat is sacrificed
00:37:36.21\00:37:38.58
to cleansed the Sanctuary, the
blood cleanses the Sanctuary?
00:37:38.61\00:37:41.67
But there's still a
very important ceremony
00:37:42.90\00:37:44.94
that took place.
00:37:44.97\00:37:46.09
Notice Leviticus chapter
16 and verses 20 through 22.
00:37:46.34\00:37:50.52
After the Sanctuary had
been cleansed by the high priest
00:37:51.34\00:37:54.39
by the blood of the sacrifice,
the Bible tells us that the
00:37:54.95\00:38:00.43
high priest would go to the door
of the tabernacle of meeting.
00:38:00.46\00:38:04.17
In other words,
this is in the court.
00:38:04.20\00:38:07.05
The door that leads
into the Holy Place.
00:38:07.16\00:38:09.52
The Bible tells us that
he would place both his hands
00:38:09.87\00:38:12.65
on the head of the scapegoat.
00:38:12.68\00:38:15.04
The Sanctuary had
already been cleansed
00:38:15.07\00:38:17.07
by the blood of the Lord's goat.
00:38:18.02\00:38:20.19
But now he's bringing all of the
iniquities and all of the sins
00:38:20.73\00:38:23.70
and he's going to
place both of his hands
00:38:23.73\00:38:25.86
on the head of the scapegoat,
and he's going to confess
00:38:25.89\00:38:28.43
those sins on the
head of the scapegoat.
00:38:28.46\00:38:30.44
Let's read about it
in Leviticus 16 verse 20.
00:38:30.47\00:38:33.10
It says...
00:38:33.20\00:38:34.23
Let me ask you, had
the Sanctuary already been
00:38:41.17\00:38:43.05
atoned for, it had
already been cleansed
00:38:43.08\00:38:44.72
when the scapegoat
ceremony takes place?
00:38:44.75\00:38:46.78
Absolutely.
00:38:47.06\00:38:48.09
The scapegoat
doesn't save Israel.
00:38:48.12\00:38:50.23
The salvation and the
cleansing of the Sanctuary
00:38:50.79\00:38:52.78
has already taken place.
00:38:52.81\00:38:54.20
Notice verse 21.
00:38:54.23\00:38:55.47
"Sins," because it's an
accumulate of all of them.
00:39:13.98\00:39:16.89
Two characteristics; the
goat after the sins were placed
00:39:46.35\00:39:49.97
upon him, he was
sent to the wilderness
00:39:50.00\00:39:53.07
to a land where
there were no, what?
00:39:53.52\00:39:56.02
Where there were no inhabitants.
00:39:56.05\00:39:58.05
Now my question is, where
is this ceremony fulfilled?
00:39:58.29\00:40:02.63
Let's go to Revelation
chapter 20 and verses 1 to 3.
00:40:03.69\00:40:07.25
Revelation chapter 20:1-3.
00:40:07.66\00:40:09.87
We're going to look at
some exciting stuff now.
00:40:10.09\00:40:12.31
Revelation 20 verses 1 to 3.
00:40:12.34\00:40:14.14
This is after, immediately
after the second coming of Jesus
00:40:15.28\00:40:18.90
is seen in chapter 19.
00:40:18.93\00:40:20.69
It says, "Then I saw an
angel coming down from heaven
00:40:20.72\00:40:23.52
having the key to
the bottomless pit."
00:40:23.55\00:40:25.61
That expression,
"bottomless pit,"
00:40:25.64\00:40:27.44
is a deplorable translation.
00:40:27.47\00:40:29.54
It's really the
Greek word, "abussos,"
00:40:30.84\00:40:33.36
which should be
translated, "deep."
00:40:34.87\00:40:37.64
Do you know it's the
same word that appears in
00:40:38.36\00:40:41.06
Genesis chapter 1 and
verse 2 where it says,
00:40:41.09\00:40:43.64
where it speaks about the deep.
00:40:43.67\00:40:44.97
Have you ever read that?
00:40:45.00\00:40:46.15
It says, "The earth
was without form and void,
00:40:46.46\00:40:49.97
and darkness was over
the face of the..." What?
00:40:50.53\00:40:53.01
Of the deep.
00:40:53.37\00:40:54.40
And you say, "How do you
know that "abussos" in Greek
00:40:55.10\00:40:57.01
is the same as
"tehom" in Hebrew?
00:40:57.04\00:40:59.79
Very simple.
00:40:59.82\00:41:00.85
We have a translation of
the Old Testament into Greek.
00:41:00.97\00:41:03.90
Every time that "tehom,"
the word in Genesis 1 verse 2,
00:41:05.40\00:41:09.08
appears in the
Greek Old Testament,
00:41:09.11\00:41:11.87
it's translated, "abussos."
00:41:12.17\00:41:13.87
So what does the
word, "abussos," mean?
00:41:14.23\00:41:16.69
It's speaking about the
earth in what condition?
00:41:16.72\00:41:19.31
In a condition where it
is without form and void
00:41:19.79\00:41:24.01
and in darkness,
and without any what?
00:41:24.04\00:41:27.28
Without any inhabitants.
00:41:27.46\00:41:29.56
That's right.
00:41:29.59\00:41:30.62
So that is the earth
where this is taking place.
00:41:31.06\00:41:33.87
So it says...
00:41:33.90\00:41:34.93
Once again, the same
word; the abussos, the tehom.
00:41:50.30\00:41:53.06
The place where there's
darkness and it's disorderly,
00:41:53.09\00:41:56.42
and it's empty or void.
00:41:56.45\00:41:58.19
And where there's no
one who's alive, because
00:41:58.38\00:42:00.85
creation hadn't taken place yet.
00:42:00.88\00:42:02.56
And so it says in verse 3...
00:42:02.59\00:42:03.87
By the way, Jeremiah saw
the earth in this condition.
00:42:15.52\00:42:18.76
Notice Jeremiah chapter 4 and
let's read verses 23 through 25.
00:42:18.79\00:42:23.55
There are many similar words.
00:42:23.58\00:42:25.68
Actually, you
should read from verse 19
00:42:25.71\00:42:28.34
all the way through verse 29.
00:42:28.37\00:42:29.85
We don't have the time
to read all of the verses,
00:42:29.88\00:42:31.63
but we're going to
read verses 23 through 25.
00:42:31.80\00:42:34.45
Listen to Jeremiah
describing what the earth
00:42:34.48\00:42:37.02
is going to be
like when Jesus comes.
00:42:37.05\00:42:39.27
The earth where the
devil is going to be bound
00:42:39.30\00:42:41.63
for 1000 years.
00:42:41.66\00:42:42.95
Jeremiah says...
00:42:43.61\00:42:44.68
Just like before creation week.
00:42:49.34\00:42:51.25
Just like at creation.
00:42:55.22\00:42:56.99
"I beheld, and indeed
there were lots of men."
00:43:02.85\00:43:06.77
No, it says, "There was no man."
00:43:07.81\00:43:10.96
Let's read a parallel passage.
00:43:16.48\00:43:18.15
Isaiah 24 and we're only
going to read verses 18 to 23.
00:43:18.18\00:43:22.95
This is describing
the second coming of Jesus
00:43:22.98\00:43:25.48
and what's going to
happen when Jesus comes.
00:43:25.51\00:43:27.59
Isaiah 24 and verse 18.
00:43:27.97\00:43:30.81
Let's begin with verse 19.
00:43:31.61\00:43:33.16
That is at the
second coming when the earth
00:43:53.16\00:43:55.32
returns to this condition.
00:43:55.35\00:43:56.65
Does Revelation
chapter 20 talk about Satan
00:44:12.35\00:44:15.65
being shut up in the prison?
00:44:15.68\00:44:16.96
Absolutely, but here it
includes also his angels.
00:44:16.99\00:44:20.16
The host of the high ones
here are Satan and his angels.
00:44:20.19\00:44:23.94
And it says, "They will be
gathered together as prisoners
00:44:23.97\00:44:27.08
are gathered in the pit, and
will be shut up in the prison."
00:44:27.11\00:44:30.42
But now listen, this
isn't their final punishment.
00:44:30.45\00:44:32.79
Because it says, "After many
days they will be punished."
00:44:32.82\00:44:36.31
How many are those many
days, according to Revelation?
00:44:36.41\00:44:38.77
A thousand years.
00:44:39.20\00:44:40.66
And then after the
thousand years, you have the
00:44:40.86\00:44:43.06
New Jerusalem appearing, if
you read Revelation 21 and 22.
00:44:43.09\00:44:46.54
Here you have it also.
00:44:46.57\00:44:47.64
It says, "Then the
moon will be disgraced
00:44:47.67\00:44:49.83
and the sun ashamed."
00:44:49.86\00:44:51.19
Remember we talked
about that when we said that
00:44:51.90\00:44:53.99
there will be sun and moon, but
you know, they're going to be
00:44:54.02\00:44:56.89
eclipsed by the glory of God.
00:44:56.92\00:44:58.80
So it says...
00:44:58.83\00:44:59.86
That's Revelation 21 and 22.
00:45:06.63\00:45:08.50
Now allow me to read you
a statement from Ellen White
00:45:12.13\00:45:14.12
on this ceremony
of the scapegoat.
00:45:14.15\00:45:16.02
She says...
00:45:17.16\00:45:18.36
See, sin had
already been taken care of.
00:45:40.48\00:45:42.94
The Sanctuary had
already been cleansed.
00:45:42.97\00:45:44.62
She continues saying...
00:45:44.65\00:45:45.87
Isn't it amazing the parallel
between the Day of Atonement
00:46:35.48\00:46:38.48
in the Old Testament
and what is going to happen
00:46:39.08\00:46:41.48
at the end of time.
00:46:41.51\00:46:42.74
Now most scholars
think that both scapegoats
00:46:43.08\00:46:45.53
represent Jesus Christ.
00:46:45.56\00:46:47.26
But they don't
represent Jesus Christ.
00:46:48.66\00:46:50.73
Because one of them, the
Bible says, was for the Lord,
00:46:50.76\00:46:54.17
and the other
one was for Azazel.
00:46:54.37\00:46:56.93
Notice Leviticus
chapter 16 verses 7 and 8.
00:46:57.13\00:47:00.48
Leviticus 16 verses 7 and 8.
00:47:00.51\00:47:02.86
How can you say one for the
Lord and one for the scapegoat,
00:47:16.87\00:47:18.89
and you say both
are for the Lord?
00:47:18.92\00:47:20.22
Obviously one is for the
Lord and the other one is
00:47:21.49\00:47:24.59
for the scapegoat.
00:47:24.62\00:47:26.04
So really, you have
one representing Jesus
00:47:26.24\00:47:31.09
and the other representing
the enemy of Jesus Christ.
00:47:31.12\00:47:34.65
Now some people say,
"Well the Adventist church,
00:47:35.06\00:47:37.03
they believe then that
the devil is their Savior,
00:47:37.06\00:47:38.86
because the devil
bears their sins."
00:47:38.89\00:47:40.27
Listen, let's read
Leviticus chapter 16 verse 20,
00:47:40.30\00:47:44.42
and you're going to see that
we don't believe that at all.
00:47:44.45\00:47:46.91
Had the sacrifice of the
Lord's goat already taken place
00:47:47.42\00:47:50.70
at this point?
00:47:50.73\00:47:51.77
Had all of the sins
already been cleansed from the
00:47:51.93\00:47:54.07
Sanctuary at this point?
00:47:54.10\00:47:55.46
Yes.
00:47:55.49\00:47:56.52
So really, what is it
that cleansed the Sanctuary?
00:47:56.55\00:47:59.50
It was the blood of Christ.
00:47:59.53\00:48:01.33
Only afterwards do you
have this goat having the sins
00:48:02.07\00:48:06.73
because he's the originator
and the instigator of sin.
00:48:06.76\00:48:10.16
If it hadn't been for
him, there wouldn't be any
00:48:10.19\00:48:11.87
sin in the universe.
00:48:11.90\00:48:13.09
Notice Leviticus
chapter 16 and verse 20.
00:48:13.12\00:48:15.99
It says here, "And
when he has made an end
00:48:16.38\00:48:19.59
of atoning for
the Holy Place..."
00:48:19.62\00:48:21.37
That is, once he's
already performed the cleansing
00:48:21.47\00:48:23.85
of the Sanctuary.
00:48:23.88\00:48:25.18
It says...
00:48:25.90\00:48:26.93
Had already sin been
cleansed from the life
00:48:34.23\00:48:36.93
and been cleansed from
the Sanctuary at this point?
00:48:36.96\00:48:39.20
Absolutely.
00:48:39.23\00:48:40.31
Now furthermore, the goat
for Azazel was presented alive.
00:48:40.51\00:48:45.59
So he could not atone for sin.
00:48:46.51\00:48:48.16
What is it that atones for sin?
00:48:48.84\00:48:50.54
Notice Hebrews
chapter 9 verse 22 says...
00:48:51.07\00:48:54.26
In other words, this
goat was presented alive.
00:49:01.04\00:49:04.94
He was not sacrificed for sin.
00:49:04.97\00:49:07.27
Furthermore, and
this is very important,
00:49:08.06\00:49:10.36
The sins were
imposed upon this scapegoat.
00:49:10.97\00:49:15.19
Whereas the Bible tells us
that the sins of us human beings
00:49:15.78\00:49:19.48
were voluntarily taken
upon Jesus Christ by Himself.
00:49:19.51\00:49:24.14
Finally, and this is the
most persuasive argument,
00:49:24.76\00:49:28.08
the book of Revelation
follows the exact order
00:49:28.18\00:49:31.16
of the Hebrew Sanctuary service.
00:49:32.46\00:49:34.22
Let me just go
through it quickly.
00:49:34.67\00:49:36.16
We don't have time to
read all of the verses.
00:49:36.19\00:49:38.17
If you read Revelation
chapter 1 verses 4 and 5,
00:49:38.76\00:49:41.48
these should be on your
list, there is says that Jesus
00:49:41.51\00:49:45.30
shed His blood and
cleansed us from our sins.
00:49:45.33\00:49:48.75
That has to do with what?
00:49:49.76\00:49:51.22
With the daily service.
00:49:51.54\00:49:52.99
Then in chapters 1 to
3 Jesus is walking among
00:49:53.32\00:49:58.01
the seven candlesticks.
00:49:58.04\00:49:59.20
He's in the Holy Place.
00:49:59.23\00:50:00.36
In the series on the seals,
which is chapter 4 through
00:50:00.94\00:50:04.20
chapter 7, Jesus is at
the table of showbread.
00:50:04.23\00:50:07.26
In the trumpet series,
the trumpet series begins with
00:50:08.51\00:50:12.01
Jesus at the altar of incense.
00:50:12.04\00:50:15.10
Are you
noticing how He's moving?
00:50:15.13\00:50:16.86
First of all, the sacrifice
of His blood in the court.
00:50:16.89\00:50:19.84
And then He's
among the candlesticks.
00:50:20.08\00:50:21.67
Then He's at the
table of showbread.
00:50:21.70\00:50:23.31
Then He's at the
altar of incense.
00:50:23.34\00:50:24.83
Where would we
expect Him to go next?
00:50:24.86\00:50:27.25
It would be the Most Holy Place.
00:50:27.81\00:50:29.40
Revelation 11 verse 19
says that the temple in heaven
00:50:29.43\00:50:33.65
is opened and the ark
of the covenant is seen.
00:50:33.68\00:50:36.24
And then Revelation
14, the judgment hour
00:50:36.91\00:50:39.50
message is proclaimed.
00:50:39.53\00:50:40.56
See, the temple is opened,
so now you have to proclaim,
00:50:40.59\00:50:43.04
"The hour of His
judgment..." What?
00:50:43.07\00:50:45.11
"...has come."
00:50:45.14\00:50:46.20
But when the three angels'
messages have been proclaimed,
00:50:46.42\00:50:49.00
Revelation 14
verses 14 through 20,
00:50:49.54\00:50:52.01
which comes right after
the final warning of the world
00:50:52.04\00:50:54.48
that the judgment is
here, the world is divided into
00:50:54.51\00:50:59.02
how many groups?
00:50:59.05\00:51:00.12
Into two groups.
00:51:00.53\00:51:01.56
The three angels' messages,
the judgment hour message,
00:51:01.59\00:51:04.21
divided the
world into two groups.
00:51:04.24\00:51:05.80
Just like the message of Noah.
00:51:05.83\00:51:07.46
And then the next
chapter says that nobody is able
00:51:08.13\00:51:12.62
to enter the temple.
00:51:12.65\00:51:14.88
That's the passage that we read.
00:51:14.91\00:51:16.15
Because probation has what?
00:51:16.18\00:51:17.61
Probation has closed.
00:51:17.94\00:51:19.45
And then after that,
in the very next chapter,
00:51:19.65\00:51:21.86
we have the plagues.
00:51:21.89\00:51:23.14
Is that the tribulation period?
00:51:23.96\00:51:25.56
Yes, after the close
of probation you have the
00:51:26.05\00:51:28.25
tribulation period.
00:51:28.28\00:51:29.53
And then you come to
chapter 19 and you have the
00:51:29.82\00:51:32.02
second coming of Jesus.
00:51:32.05\00:51:33.32
He's seated on a white
horse and the armies of heaven
00:51:33.35\00:51:35.88
are coming with Him.
00:51:35.91\00:51:37.81
And then what do you have?
00:51:39.33\00:51:40.98
In chapter 20 you have
the scapegoat ceremony.
00:51:41.78\00:51:44.63
Satan is bound to planet
earth in a non-inhabited land,
00:51:44.66\00:51:50.04
because all of his
followers are dead,
00:51:50.07\00:51:51.89
and the earth is
like a vast wilderness.
00:51:51.92\00:51:54.29
And then after the 1000
years, God makes a new heavens
00:51:55.31\00:51:59.58
and a new earth, in
Revelation 21 and 22.
00:51:59.61\00:52:03.03
Are you seeing the sequence?
00:52:03.06\00:52:04.42
Clearly in the
sequence of Revelation
00:52:04.96\00:52:07.17
the scapegoat ceremony
comes in the exact place
00:52:07.20\00:52:10.68
where we would expect
it, according to the model
00:52:11.10\00:52:14.03
of the Hebrew
Sanctuary of the Old Testament.
00:52:14.06\00:52:16.40
Now you're saying,
"But what about the wicked?
00:52:16.45\00:52:18.42
We've talked about
Satan, you know, because
00:52:18.52\00:52:20.44
he's the
originator and the instigator.
00:52:20.47\00:52:22.33
He's going to
suffer the final penalty.
00:52:22.36\00:52:24.36
But what about the wicked?"
00:52:24.39\00:52:25.65
Well, the devil
is not going to...
00:52:25.91\00:52:28.17
The sins of the wicked aren't
going to be placed on him.
00:52:28.20\00:52:30.71
Who's going to bear
the sins of the wicked?
00:52:32.32\00:52:34.23
The wicked.
00:52:35.07\00:52:36.20
Because they did not sympathize
with the work of the high priest
00:52:36.97\00:52:40.00
on the Day of Atonement.
00:52:40.03\00:52:41.06
In fact, go with me to
Leviticus 23 verses 29 and 30.
00:52:41.09\00:52:44.55
On the Day of
Atonement everybody in Israel
00:52:44.58\00:52:47.51
had to be focused
on what was happening.
00:52:47.54\00:52:50.45
While the high priest
was cleansing the Sanctuary
00:52:50.94\00:52:54.18
they had to be afflicting
their souls and cleansing their
00:52:54.48\00:52:57.94
lives from sin.
00:52:57.97\00:52:59.37
Notice Leviticus
chapter 23 and verses 29 and 30.
00:52:59.88\00:53:03.47
See, people had to fast
on the Day of Atonement.
00:53:17.05\00:53:19.89
They had to afflict their
souls on the Day of Atonement.
00:53:19.92\00:53:22.65
And they couldn't work
on the Day of Atonement.
00:53:22.68\00:53:25.06
You're saying, "Does that mean
that we don't work since 1844?"
00:53:25.09\00:53:27.87
No.
00:53:27.90\00:53:28.93
The reason why they didn't work
is because their minds had to be
00:53:29.04\00:53:33.55
focused on what was happening
in the Most Holy Place.
00:53:33.58\00:53:36.50
So any work that you have today
that distracts your attention
00:53:36.53\00:53:41.12
from being focused
on what Jesus is doing,
00:53:41.61\00:53:44.23
that is cleansing the Sanctuary,
and He wants to cleanse
00:53:44.26\00:53:47.03
our lives from sin, we
need to beware of anything that
00:53:47.06\00:53:50.95
interferes with us
gathering around the Sanctuary.
00:53:50.98\00:53:53.32
Because everyone had to
gather around the Sanctuary
00:53:53.35\00:53:56.30
to focus on what the
high priest was doing.
00:53:56.33\00:53:58.55
In fact, the high
priest had bells around the
00:53:58.58\00:54:01.15
bottom of his
garment so that Israel could
00:54:01.18\00:54:03.58
follow his
movements in the Sanctuary.
00:54:03.61\00:54:06.27
Can we follow
Jesus in what He's doing?
00:54:06.30\00:54:08.49
That's why God gave us
the model in the Old Testament
00:54:08.52\00:54:11.88
so that we could understand
what Jesus is doing today.
00:54:11.91\00:54:14.71
By the way, what does it mean to
"cut off" from among the people?
00:54:15.00\00:54:19.34
It's a very serious thing.
00:54:19.37\00:54:20.82
Notice Psalm 109:14-15 tells
us what it means to be cut off.
00:54:22.15\00:54:26.19
It means that your
memory will be cut off forever
00:54:26.22\00:54:28.77
when the wicked are
destroyed because they
00:54:28.80\00:54:31.58
bear their own sins.
00:54:31.61\00:54:32.77
See, you can decide to
let Jesus bear your sins
00:54:32.80\00:54:35.37
or you can bear them yourself.
00:54:35.40\00:54:36.86
There's two ways
of paying for sin.
00:54:36.89\00:54:38.46
Either Jesus can pay for
your sin or you can pay for it.
00:54:38.82\00:54:41.58
I'd rather have
Jesus pay for it.
00:54:41.88\00:54:43.45
How about you?
00:54:43.75\00:54:44.78
Psalm 109 verses 14 and 15.
00:54:45.22\00:54:47.87
This is what it
means to cut off.
00:54:48.91\00:54:50.75
This is speaking
about Judas specifically.
00:54:53.32\00:54:55.16
And do you know where
people were destroyed?
00:55:12.12\00:55:14.31
Where the wicked were
destroyed in the Old Testament
00:55:14.34\00:55:16.19
when you had
high-handed sinners?
00:55:16.22\00:55:17.90
Leviticus chapter
24 verse 14 and 23
00:55:18.10\00:55:21.24
tells us that this happened
outside the camp of the saints.
00:55:21.66\00:55:26.31
Where are the wicked going
to be after the millennium?
00:55:26.84\00:55:28.95
The Bible tells us that
the devil and all of the wicked
00:55:30.09\00:55:33.62
will gather outside
the camp of the saints.
00:55:33.93\00:55:37.48
Exactly what we find in
Leviticus 24 and verse 14
00:55:38.00\00:55:41.89
and verse 23.
00:55:41.92\00:55:43.77
Now the question is,
what should we be doing today?
00:55:45.70\00:55:47.89
Many Christians today
think we should all be having a
00:55:48.67\00:55:50.92
good time in church and we
should be jumping and dancing
00:55:50.95\00:55:53.45
and just having
a jolly good time.
00:55:53.48\00:55:56.20
Now is the time that Jesus
is cleansing the Sanctuary.
00:55:56.64\00:55:59.19
And we should gather
there, and through His power
00:55:59.22\00:56:02.84
cleanse our lives from sin.
00:56:02.87\00:56:04.76
Notice Joel chapter 2:10-11.
00:56:05.54\00:56:07.43
It's speaking about the second
coming of Christ, it says...
00:56:07.46\00:56:09.46
And then if you
00:56:27.87\00:56:30.94
Joel chapter 2 verse 12.
00:56:30.97\00:56:32.60
It's describing
the Day of Atonement.
00:56:32.63\00:56:34.37
Verses 10 and 11
are speaking about the
00:56:34.57\00:56:36.22
second coming of Christ.
00:56:36.25\00:56:37.28
And then verses 12 through
17 describe the preparation.
00:56:37.31\00:56:41.24
Let's go down to verse 16.
00:57:01.15\00:57:02.78
This is all
describing the Day of Atonement.
00:57:20.31\00:57:22.22
What attitude should we
have on the Day of Atonement?
00:57:22.25\00:57:24.29
Through the power of God
we should be overcoming sin.
00:57:24.93\00:57:29.08
