Shall we bow our heads for prayer. 00:00:30.87\00:00:32.40 Father in heaven, thank You that in spite 00:00:34.15\00:00:38.66 of the sinfulness of this world You still care so much about us 00:00:39.28\00:00:45.22 that You send Your sun and You send Your rain 00:00:45.97\00:00:50.53 upon righteous and unrighteous. 00:00:51.16\00:00:53.17 Father, we take these things for granted. 00:00:54.18\00:00:55.97 But each one of these things is a blessing 00:00:57.12\00:00:59.61 that comes directly from Your hands. 00:00:59.64\00:01:01.71 Father, we ask that the rain of Your Holy Spirit 00:01:02.52\00:01:05.52 will fall in this place. 00:01:06.08\00:01:08.06 That through the Spirit You'll make Your message crystal clear. 00:01:08.77\00:01:15.00 We thank You, Father, for the privilege of 00:01:15.92\00:01:17.66 approaching Your throne. 00:01:17.69\00:01:18.80 Thank You for hearing our prayer. 00:01:18.83\00:01:20.98 For we ask it in the precious name of Jesus, amen. 00:01:21.41\00:01:25.88 I'd like to begin by reading a statement that we find 00:01:27.14\00:01:30.54 in that classic history book called, 00:01:30.57\00:01:34.18 Patriarchs and Prophets, page 68. 00:01:34.21\00:01:37.97 Patriarchs and Prophets, page 68. 00:01:38.64\00:01:41.65 Of course, this book was written by Ellen White. 00:01:42.25\00:01:44.45 And she's talking here about the plan of redemption. 00:01:45.08\00:01:48.20 And this is what she says. 00:01:48.50\00:01:50.10 "But the plan of redemption had a yet broader 00:01:50.95\00:01:54.92 and deeper purpose than the salvation of man. 00:01:54.95\00:01:59.83 It was not for this alone that Christ came to the earth. 00:02:00.80\00:02:06.71 It was not merely that the inhabitants of this little world 00:02:07.58\00:02:12.57 might regard the law of God as it should be regarded. 00:02:13.09\00:02:17.47 But it was to vindicate the character of God 00:02:18.35\00:02:23.98 before the universe." 00:02:24.01\00:02:26.40 The purpose of the plan of salvation, yes, was to save man. 00:02:27.35\00:02:31.05 But a broader purpose was that through the salvation of man 00:02:32.14\00:02:36.11 the universe could catch a glimpse of the character of God 00:02:36.14\00:02:40.82 and how God resolves the problem of sin. 00:02:40.85\00:02:45.08 You see, the problem of sin is a universal cosmic problem. 00:02:45.74\00:02:49.92 And therefore, in order to resolve the sin problem 00:02:51.45\00:02:54.93 you need a cosmic and universal solution. 00:02:54.96\00:02:58.38 The Bible tells us that the angels are involved in the 00:02:59.67\00:03:03.74 conflict or the controversy that is taking place. 00:03:03.77\00:03:07.13 In fact, the Bible tells us that the devil was able to deceive 00:03:07.76\00:03:11.14 one-third of the angels of heaven with his lies. 00:03:11.17\00:03:14.57 And the other angels, the two-thirds, even though 00:03:15.72\00:03:18.91 they remained loyal to God, there's no doubt 00:03:18.94\00:03:21.86 that they had questions about the statements of Lucifer 00:03:21.89\00:03:27.16 concerning God. 00:03:27.19\00:03:28.76 Therefore, God decided that because the heavenly beings 00:03:29.37\00:03:35.50 were involved in the controversy, 00:03:35.53\00:03:37.31 because the controversy began in heaven, 00:03:37.34\00:03:39.59 that He would make this little world an object lesson 00:03:40.03\00:03:43.48 that would reveal clearly His character before the universe. 00:03:43.51\00:03:47.95 Let's read about the origin of sin. 00:03:47.98\00:03:50.44 In Revelation chapter 12 and verses 7 through 9 00:03:51.02\00:03:54.47 we find the description of the origin of sin. 00:03:54.77\00:03:57.59 It did not happen on earth. 00:03:57.62\00:03:59.56 It happened in heaven. 00:03:59.59\00:04:01.23 It says there... 00:04:02.03\00:04:03.06 So the controversy originated in heaven. 00:04:34.00\00:04:36.98 Heaven is involved in the great controversy. 00:04:37.50\00:04:40.56 This is a cosmic universal mess. 00:04:41.21\00:04:44.22 And heaven is watching, as we studied in our last lecture. 00:04:44.93\00:04:50.02 The heavenly counsel is contemplating 00:04:50.45\00:04:53.99 things that happen on earth. 00:04:54.02\00:04:55.68 And they're watching how God resolves the problem of sin 00:04:56.07\00:05:00.95 in harmony with His character. 00:05:00.98\00:05:03.50 We're going to notice in our study that the purpose 00:05:04.40\00:05:07.96 of the three stages of the judgment is to clarify 00:05:07.99\00:05:13.45 before the entire universe how God solves the problem of sin. 00:05:13.48\00:05:20.70 The Bible makes it clear that heaven is involved. 00:05:20.90\00:05:23.80 Heaven is watching. 00:05:23.83\00:05:25.32 In fact, allow me to read you several statements 00:05:25.79\00:05:28.52 from Scripture that indicate that heaven is involved 00:05:28.55\00:05:32.46 with the events that are taking place on earth. 00:05:32.49\00:05:34.72 1 Corinthians chapter 4 and verse 9. 00:05:35.07\00:05:37.51 And I'm reading this from the New International Version. 00:05:37.81\00:05:41.09 And some people don't like the New International Version. 00:05:41.57\00:05:45.01 I have issues with this version of the Bible 00:05:45.54\00:05:48.38 because of certain things that are left out. 00:05:48.41\00:05:50.67 But I'll tell you that the translation of 00:05:51.05\00:05:52.83 1 Corinthians 4:9 is good in the NIV. 00:05:52.86\00:05:55.67 Notice what it says. 00:05:55.70\00:05:57.06 "For it seems to me that God has put us apostles 00:05:57.65\00:06:02.96 on display at the end of the procession, 00:06:03.43\00:06:07.48 like men condemned to die in the arena." 00:06:07.76\00:06:11.71 And then notice, "We have been made a spectacle..." 00:06:11.74\00:06:16.31 That Greek word is, "theatron," where we get our word, 00:06:17.61\00:06:21.88 "theater," from. 00:06:21.91\00:06:23.74 In other words, you could translate it, 00:06:24.27\00:06:25.76 "We have been made a theater of the whole universe, 00:06:25.79\00:06:31.25 to angels and to man." 00:06:32.14\00:06:36.48 Are the angels involved in this theatrical presentation 00:06:37.21\00:06:42.02 called sin? 00:06:42.05\00:06:43.40 Absolutely. 00:06:43.50\00:06:44.96 Notice 1 Peter chapter 1 and verses 10 through 12. 00:06:45.29\00:06:49.13 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 10 through 12 00:06:49.16\00:06:51.87 says as much; the angels are watching the way that 00:06:51.90\00:06:55.13 God solves this problem of sin to see what 00:06:55.16\00:06:59.10 God's character is like. 00:06:59.13\00:07:00.94 If God solves the problem in harmony with His character. 00:07:00.97\00:07:04.55 It says there in verse 10, and we'll read several verses, 00:07:04.68\00:07:09.45 it says, "Concerning this salvation, the prophets, 00:07:09.48\00:07:13.33 who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, 00:07:13.36\00:07:17.11 searched intently and with the greatest care, 00:07:17.47\00:07:20.98 trying to find out the time..." 00:07:21.21\00:07:23.80 I'm reading from the NIV this text also. 00:07:23.83\00:07:26.46 "...and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them 00:07:26.49\00:07:30.61 was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ 00:07:30.64\00:07:34.36 and the glories that would follow. 00:07:34.39\00:07:36.40 It was revealed to them," that is, to the prophets, 00:07:37.02\00:07:40.00 "that they were not serving themselves but you 00:07:40.38\00:07:43.55 when they spoke of the things that have now been told you 00:07:44.01\00:07:47.75 by those who preached the gospel to you by the Spirit 00:07:47.78\00:07:51.22 sent from heaven." 00:07:51.25\00:07:52.57 And now notice what the last part of verse 12 says. 00:07:52.60\00:07:56.45 "Even the angels long to look into these things." 00:07:56.48\00:08:03.26 It's speaking about salvation. 00:08:04.02\00:08:05.97 It's speaking about redemption and the prophets who wrote 00:08:06.56\00:08:09.71 about the time of the coming of Christ, 00:08:09.74\00:08:11.84 and the circumstances of the coming of Christ. 00:08:11.87\00:08:14.39 And it says here, "Even the angels long to look 00:08:14.42\00:08:18.14 into these things." 00:08:18.17\00:08:20.07 Do you know that the death of Jesus on the cross 00:08:20.75\00:08:23.27 actually closed the book on the doubts that the heavenly beings 00:08:23.54\00:08:28.55 had concerning the character of God? 00:08:28.58\00:08:31.29 Even those who had remained loyal. 00:08:31.32\00:08:33.23 Because the death of Jesus on the cross not only reconciled 00:08:33.74\00:08:37.04 earth with Him, but it also reconciled heaven. 00:08:37.07\00:08:40.11 Notice Colossians chapter 1 and verses 19 and 20. 00:08:40.46\00:08:44.48 Colossians chapter 1 verses 19 and 20. 00:08:44.80\00:08:47.78 It says here... 00:08:48.60\00:08:49.83 That is, in Jesus. 00:08:52.57\00:08:53.91 Did heaven also need to be reconciled through the 00:09:14.93\00:09:18.17 cross of Jesus Christ? 00:09:18.20\00:09:19.72 This passage clearly says yes. 00:09:19.93\00:09:22.55 Notice also Luke chapter 15 and verse 10. 00:09:23.22\00:09:26.73 When sinners repent on earth, 00:09:27.31\00:09:29.94 the angels are overjoyed in heaven. 00:09:30.07\00:09:32.98 There's a connection between the angels 00:09:33.18\00:09:35.59 and the events of planet earth. 00:09:35.62\00:09:37.62 It says there in Luke chapter 15 and verse 10, 00:09:38.04\00:09:40.97 Jesus is speaking, "Likewise, I say to you, 00:09:41.00\00:09:44.25 there is joy in the presence of the angels of God 00:09:44.28\00:09:48.94 over one sinner who repents." 00:09:48.97\00:09:53.29 I want you to notice also what we find in 00:09:53.58\00:09:57.16 Psalm 51 verses 1 through 4. 00:09:57.19\00:09:59.99 Psalm 51 and verses 1 through 4. 00:10:00.02\00:10:02.41 This is a very interesting passage. 00:10:02.44\00:10:04.63 This is David's penitential psalm after he 00:10:05.50\00:10:08.40 committed adultery and he had his general murdered 00:10:08.43\00:10:11.99 in the battlefield. 00:10:12.67\00:10:14.08 He's praying to God. 00:10:14.30\00:10:15.79 And notice what he says. 00:10:15.82\00:10:17.53 "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your 00:10:17.56\00:10:21.52 loving kindness. 00:10:21.55\00:10:22.83 According to the multitude of Your tender mercies 00:10:22.86\00:10:26.10 blot out my transgressions. 00:10:26.13\00:10:28.33 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, 00:10:28.61\00:10:31.37 and cleanse me from my sin. 00:10:31.40\00:10:33.31 For I acknowledge my transgressions, 00:10:33.84\00:10:37.02 and my sin is always before me. 00:10:37.05\00:10:40.09 Against You, You only, have I sinned 00:10:40.35\00:10:43.02 and done this evil in Your sight; 00:10:43.33\00:10:45.32 that You may be found just when You speak, 00:10:45.57\00:10:49.46 and blameless when You judge." 00:10:49.49\00:10:52.14 Interesting that David would say, 00:10:52.98\00:10:55.22 "You know, I confess my sin. 00:10:55.56\00:10:57.78 I realize I'm a sinner. 00:10:57.92\00:10:59.46 I'm not lying to you. 00:10:59.81\00:11:01.76 Please forgive my sin. 00:11:02.27\00:11:04.12 I acknowledge it. I repent." 00:11:04.15\00:11:06.39 Now when you go to the book of Romans, this text is quoted. 00:11:06.88\00:11:11.17 And I want you to notice how in the New Testament 00:11:11.20\00:11:14.46 the translation is changed by the apostle Paul. 00:11:14.65\00:11:18.51 See, in Psalm 51 verses 1 through 4, 00:11:18.92\00:11:22.39 it speaks about God being blameless when He judges. 00:11:22.42\00:11:26.23 But notice what we find in Romans chapter 3 and verse 4 00:11:26.93\00:11:30.14 where this passage is quoted. 00:11:30.17\00:11:31.89 "Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. 00:11:32.20\00:11:37.37 As it is written, 'That You may be justified in Your words, 00:11:37.62\00:11:43.93 and may overcome when You are judged.'" 00:11:44.13\00:11:48.92 Isn't that interesting. 00:11:50.44\00:11:51.98 God is being what? 00:11:53.65\00:11:55.60 God is being judged. 00:11:56.24\00:11:57.98 The devil says, "How can You forgive them, they're sinners? 00:11:58.77\00:12:01.62 You said the wages of sin is death. 00:12:01.65\00:12:03.65 How can You have mercy upon them 00:12:04.46\00:12:07.15 when You said that if they sinned they would die?" 00:12:07.80\00:12:10.42 And so there's a dilemma. 00:12:11.23\00:12:12.53 "If You punish man, You don't love him. 00:12:12.56\00:12:15.62 But if You don't punish him, then You're not just." 00:12:15.65\00:12:18.24 There appears to be a conflict between the justice of God 00:12:18.69\00:12:21.80 and the love and mercy of God. 00:12:21.83\00:12:23.60 And God decides to forgive. 00:12:23.63\00:12:25.19 And the devil says, "Oh He forgives some 00:12:25.22\00:12:27.55 and He doesn't forgive others." 00:12:27.58\00:12:29.31 And so the purpose of the Sanctuary service 00:12:29.34\00:12:31.74 is to show that God was right in the way 00:12:31.77\00:12:34.96 in which He dealt with sin. 00:12:34.99\00:12:36.54 And in Psalm 51 it speaks about God judging, 00:12:37.17\00:12:40.90 but when that is quoted in Romans chapter 3 and verse 4 00:12:40.93\00:12:44.03 it speaks about God being judged. 00:12:44.06\00:12:47.77 In other words, the judgment has the purpose of vindicating 00:12:48.22\00:12:52.52 the character of God before the universe. 00:12:52.55\00:12:55.43 Now there are basically several parties involved 00:12:56.17\00:12:59.09 in the great controversy. 00:12:59.12\00:13:00.61 First of all, you have the loyal heavenly beings. 00:13:01.33\00:13:04.58 Among those are God, the holy angels, 00:13:05.47\00:13:09.48 and the inhabitants of the worlds that never sinned. 00:13:09.51\00:13:12.34 So the first group involved is the group of loyal 00:13:12.37\00:13:16.92 heavenly beings; God, the holy angels, 00:13:16.95\00:13:19.40 and the inhabitants of the other worlds. 00:13:19.43\00:13:21.53 A second group are the penitent sinners who will be saved. 00:13:21.93\00:13:27.16 And in the third place, you have impenitent sinners 00:13:28.00\00:13:31.89 who are going to be lost, and also Satan and his angels. 00:13:31.92\00:13:36.79 Now before the great controversy can come to an end, all of 00:13:37.48\00:13:41.03 these groups have to be absolutely persuaded 00:13:41.06\00:13:44.40 that God resolved the sin problem in harmony 00:13:44.43\00:13:48.44 with His character. 00:13:48.47\00:13:49.81 You see, God does not solve the sin problem quickly. 00:13:50.60\00:13:55.52 He does not implement superficial solutions. 00:13:55.94\00:13:59.48 When God solves the sin problem, He is not going to 00:13:59.88\00:14:02.43 leave any loose ends. 00:14:02.46\00:14:04.41 We live in a society where people want 00:14:04.61\00:14:06.47 immediate gratification. 00:14:06.50\00:14:08.23 They want things, and they want those things now. 00:14:08.26\00:14:10.81 But God does not operate that way. 00:14:10.84\00:14:13.21 God doesn't cut corners. 00:14:13.64\00:14:15.55 When the sin problem is resolved as a result of the 00:14:15.75\00:14:19.10 three stages of the judgment, everyone in the universe; 00:14:19.13\00:14:22.80 the loyal beings in heaven, the loyal beings on earth, 00:14:22.83\00:14:26.50 the rebellious beings on earth, Satan and his angels, 00:14:26.53\00:14:30.01 will all confess that God was right in the way 00:14:30.04\00:14:33.87 in which He dealt with sin. 00:14:33.90\00:14:36.58 The purpose of the judgment is not to inform God 00:14:37.09\00:14:40.89 who is good and who is evil. 00:14:40.92\00:14:42.44 Because God knows the end from the beginning. 00:14:42.47\00:14:45.31 The purpose of the judgment is not to inform God. 00:14:45.34\00:14:48.29 The purpose of the judgment is to inform the universe. 00:14:48.40\00:14:52.14 Because the universe does not know everything. 00:14:52.17\00:14:55.11 And they need to see how God solves the problem of sin. 00:14:55.36\00:15:00.15 Now at each stage of the judgment, God persuades 00:15:00.78\00:15:05.06 a different group. 00:15:05.26\00:15:06.53 We're going to notice that as we study the 00:15:07.99\00:15:09.97 three stages of the judgment. 00:15:10.00\00:15:11.66 Now let's talk about stage number one of the judgment. 00:15:11.69\00:15:15.24 This stage is the pre-advent investigative judgment 00:15:15.85\00:15:21.04 of the righteous. 00:15:21.07\00:15:22.60 Did you understand what I said? 00:15:23.63\00:15:25.19 "Pre-advent" means, before the second coming. 00:15:25.87\00:15:28.28 "Investigative" means that their cases are going to be 00:15:28.98\00:15:32.32 researched or investigated from the books. 00:15:32.62\00:15:35.75 And of course it means that the righteous are the ones 00:15:36.36\00:15:40.31 who are going to be judged before Jesus comes. 00:15:40.34\00:15:43.90 And you say, "Why would the righteous be judged 00:15:43.93\00:15:46.13 before Jesus comes?" 00:15:46.16\00:15:47.59 Well, the answer is very simple. 00:15:47.77\00:15:50.54 You see, Jesus, when He comes again, is going to take 00:15:51.03\00:15:54.80 His faithful people to heaven. 00:15:54.83\00:15:56.49 And so He has to reveal before He comes 00:15:57.39\00:16:00.65 who He has a right to take to heaven. 00:16:00.75\00:16:03.50 Are you with me or not? 00:16:03.53\00:16:04.80 There's an urgency to judge the righteous before He comes. 00:16:05.02\00:16:08.75 Because when He comes He's planning to what? 00:16:08.78\00:16:11.46 He planning to take them to heaven. 00:16:11.49\00:16:13.15 And so He must reveal who truly repented, 00:16:13.18\00:16:18.17 confessed, forsook sin, and by faith claimed the perfect life 00:16:18.20\00:16:24.57 and the death of Jesus Christ as his or hers. 00:16:24.60\00:16:28.04 It needs to be revealed to the universe 00:16:28.07\00:16:30.54 so that when Jesus takes His people home, 00:16:30.57\00:16:33.07 all of the heavenly universe says, "You brought everyone 00:16:33.10\00:16:36.74 that You had a right to bring based on Your character." 00:16:36.77\00:16:40.92 Now the question is, when does this judgment take place? 00:16:41.53\00:16:46.11 This first stage. 00:16:46.14\00:16:47.63 Revelation 14:6-7 makes it very clear. 00:16:47.66\00:16:50.35 Revelation 14 verses 6 and 7. 00:16:50.38\00:16:52.51 We've read this before, it says... 00:16:53.12\00:16:54.69 Question, is there still an opportunity to be saved 00:17:05.23\00:17:09.75 when the everlasting gospel is being preached? 00:17:10.17\00:17:12.45 Absolutely. 00:17:13.05\00:17:14.36 While the gospel is being preached people can be saved. 00:17:14.75\00:17:18.68 But now notice what takes place as the gospel is being preached. 00:17:18.88\00:17:22.80 It says in verse 7, "...saying with a loud voice, 00:17:23.42\00:17:26.05 'Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of 00:17:26.36\00:17:30.37 His judgment will come.'" 00:17:30.40\00:17:32.28 No. "...has come." 00:17:33.03\00:17:34.65 Does the judgment begin while the gospel 00:17:34.91\00:17:37.30 is being preached, yes or no? 00:17:37.33\00:17:39.38 Yes, so must it begin before the close of probation 00:17:39.60\00:17:42.78 and before the coming of Jesus? 00:17:42.81\00:17:44.61 Very clearly. 00:17:44.71\00:17:45.80 And so it says... 00:17:45.98\00:17:47.18 So the judgment takes place while the gospel is 00:17:56.79\00:18:00.19 being preached, before probation closes, before Jesus comes. 00:18:00.22\00:18:04.48 Now where does this judgment take place? 00:18:04.51\00:18:06.94 It takes place in heaven. 00:18:07.76\00:18:09.30 Notice Daniel chapter 7:9-10. 00:18:10.09\00:18:12.65 We read this before, but let's read it again. 00:18:12.75\00:18:14.84 Daniel 7 verses 9 and 10. 00:18:14.87\00:18:16.94 It says... 00:18:16.97\00:18:18.00 Where does the Ancient of Days live? 00:18:23.79\00:18:25.83 "Our Father, which art in heaven." 00:18:26.80\00:18:29.59 So it says... 00:18:30.19\00:18:31.22 Who are these? 00:18:52.51\00:18:53.54 The angels. Where do the angels live? 00:18:54.11\00:18:55.82 In heaven. 00:18:56.21\00:18:57.24 They surround the throne of God the Father. 00:18:57.27\00:18:59.56 And then notice what the verse ends saying, verse 10. 00:18:59.59\00:19:03.54 Where does this judgment take place? 00:19:08.58\00:19:10.64 It takes place in heaven. 00:19:10.95\00:19:12.47 When does it take place? 00:19:12.50\00:19:14.31 Before the close of probation, before Jesus comes, 00:19:14.55\00:19:18.22 while the gospel is being preached. 00:19:18.25\00:19:20.47 Do we have a specific date for the beginning of this judgment? 00:19:20.92\00:19:24.06 We certainly do. We studied it, remember? 00:19:24.28\00:19:26.74 The prophecy of the seventy weeks and the prophecy 00:19:26.77\00:19:28.92 of the 2300 days. 00:19:28.95\00:19:30.60 Daniel 8:14 says, "For 2300 days, then the Sanctuary 00:19:30.63\00:19:36.60 shall be cleansed." 00:19:36.63\00:19:37.89 Which is referring to the judgment. 00:19:37.92\00:19:39.42 And that will be our lecture for tomorrow night. 00:19:39.45\00:19:41.97 We're going to talk about the scapegoat, 00:19:42.00\00:19:44.10 in Leviticus chapter 16, and the millennium. 00:19:44.13\00:19:46.66 Now, who must appear at this stage of the judgment? 00:19:47.04\00:19:51.48 Who must appear? 00:19:52.77\00:19:54.12 Everyone who claimed Jesus Christ as Savior. 00:19:54.92\00:19:58.18 Notice 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 10. 00:19:58.92\00:20:02.10 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 10. 00:20:02.30\00:20:05.17 It says... 00:20:05.36\00:20:06.55 Now what part of "all" don't you understand? 00:20:11.93\00:20:13.86 The apostle Paul says, "we." 00:20:14.56\00:20:15.74 He's speaking to believers. 00:20:15.77\00:20:17.30 Does God keep a record of our good and bad deeds? 00:20:29.66\00:20:32.54 He must keep a record if we all must appear before the 00:20:33.17\00:20:35.85 judgment seat of Christ and we're going to have to render 00:20:35.88\00:20:38.05 an account for what we did good and for what we did evil. 00:20:38.08\00:20:41.71 But now we have a problem. 00:20:41.74\00:20:43.04 This judgment takes place before the second coming of Jesus, 00:20:43.73\00:20:46.39 and it takes place in heaven. 00:20:46.81\00:20:48.48 When are God's people going to go to heaven? 00:20:49.98\00:20:52.31 When Jesus comes. 00:20:53.54\00:20:55.24 So how can they appear before the judgment seat of Christ 00:20:55.84\00:20:58.84 in heaven before Jesus comes? 00:20:58.87\00:21:01.55 Especially those who are in their graves. 00:21:02.39\00:21:04.69 Notice John chapter 5 verses 28 and 29. 00:21:05.43\00:21:08.77 John chapter 5 verses 28 and 29. 00:21:08.80\00:21:11.90 Where are the righteous who die? 00:21:11.93\00:21:16.30 They're in their graves. 00:21:17.32\00:21:18.39 Where are the wicked who have died? 00:21:18.42\00:21:20.00 They're in their graves also. 00:21:20.55\00:21:22.14 Notice John 5:28. 00:21:22.17\00:21:24.34 Jesus is speaking and He says... 00:21:24.37\00:21:25.84 Where are the righteous dead? 00:21:33.27\00:21:34.65 In their graves. 00:21:35.52\00:21:37.10 So here's the question, how can God's people 00:21:48.22\00:21:51.77 appear before the judgment seat of Christ, 00:21:51.80\00:21:54.01 especially those who have died and are in their graves 00:21:54.62\00:21:57.86 and they don't resurrect until Jesus comes, 00:21:57.89\00:22:00.79 and also the living who are walking on planet earth 00:22:00.99\00:22:03.92 until Jesus comes, how can they appear before the 00:22:03.95\00:22:06.88 judgment seat of Christ? 00:22:06.91\00:22:08.19 The answer is that they do not appear in person. 00:22:08.22\00:22:10.96 They appear through their records. 00:22:10.99\00:22:13.43 They appear through what is written in the books. 00:22:14.52\00:22:17.53 Are you with me? 00:22:18.21\00:22:19.24 That extra lecture that I was talking about, don't miss it. 00:22:19.48\00:22:22.42 Because I'm going to talk about the book and the books, 00:22:22.45\00:22:24.95 and how the judgment transpires. 00:22:24.98\00:22:26.70 It's a fascinating message. 00:22:26.73\00:22:28.55 Now I want you to notice Luke chapter 12 and verses 8 and 9. 00:22:28.74\00:22:33.17 Luke chapter 12 verses 8 and 9. 00:22:33.20\00:22:35.74 This gives us an idea about Jesus examining our case 00:22:36.74\00:22:40.96 and confessing us before the angels. 00:22:41.28\00:22:43.27 See, the angels are involved. They're watching. 00:22:43.30\00:22:45.31 They're watching each one of our cases. 00:22:45.51\00:22:47.54 It says there in Luke chapter 12 verses 8 and 9, 00:22:47.79\00:22:51.31 "Also I say to you," Jesus is speaking, 00:22:51.41\00:22:54.40 "whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man 00:22:54.50\00:22:58.85 also will confess before..." Whom? 00:22:58.88\00:23:01.77 "...before the angels of God. 00:23:02.03\00:23:04.16 But he who denies Me before men will be denied before..." Whom? 00:23:04.34\00:23:09.10 "...the angels of God." 00:23:09.13\00:23:10.16 Are the angels of God watching the cases 00:23:10.19\00:23:12.30 of individuals on planet earth? 00:23:12.33\00:23:14.15 Absolutely. 00:23:14.18\00:23:15.21 But now I want you to notice that in Revelation chapter 3 00:23:15.24\00:23:18.28 and verse 5, when Jesus said that he will confess us 00:23:18.31\00:23:23.56 before the angels of God, really what He meant is that 00:23:23.59\00:23:26.52 He's going to confess our name before the angels of God. 00:23:26.55\00:23:30.07 Because we're not there in person. 00:23:30.64\00:23:32.31 Our name will be brought up. 00:23:32.34\00:23:34.28 Notice Revelation chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:23:34.42\00:23:37.21 Here Jesus is speaking, by the way, also. 00:23:37.24\00:23:40.36 He says, "He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, 00:23:40.57\00:23:46.33 and I will not blot out His..." What? 00:23:46.49\00:23:49.31 "...his name from the Book of Life; 00:23:49.62\00:23:52.58 but I will confess his..." What? 00:23:52.61\00:23:54.87 "...his name before My Father and before His..." What? 00:23:54.90\00:23:59.74 "...and before His angels." 00:23:59.77\00:24:01.28 What is Jesus going to confess before His Father? 00:24:01.31\00:24:04.06 He's going to confess our name. 00:24:04.46\00:24:06.34 And where is our name written? 00:24:06.37\00:24:08.01 It is written in the Book of Life. 00:24:08.28\00:24:10.33 So we are not there in person. 00:24:10.96\00:24:13.56 We are there through our records. 00:24:13.59\00:24:15.32 Because God in heaven has an exact record 00:24:15.35\00:24:17.61 of who we are on earth. 00:24:17.64\00:24:19.52 In other word, we appear there through the record of our lives. 00:24:20.22\00:24:23.78 Now listen. 00:24:23.81\00:24:24.84 Most Christians have no need for the idea of a judgment 00:24:25.04\00:24:29.80 before Jesus comes. 00:24:29.83\00:24:30.86 Do you know why? 00:24:30.89\00:24:31.92 It's very simple. 00:24:32.27\00:24:33.43 Because most Christians believe that when you die 00:24:33.53\00:24:35.81 you go to heaven. 00:24:35.84\00:24:36.87 So if when you die you go to heaven, 00:24:37.56\00:24:39.36 why would there have to be a judgment to decide 00:24:39.39\00:24:41.51 whether you're going to go to heaven or not? 00:24:41.54\00:24:43.27 Are you with me? 00:24:43.98\00:24:45.06 So the doctrine of the judgment is related to the doctrine of 00:24:45.39\00:24:48.47 the state of the dead. 00:24:48.50\00:24:49.59 If you believe that the dead, when they die, their soul 00:24:49.84\00:24:52.96 flies off to heaven and receives its reward, 00:24:52.99\00:24:55.81 then you can't believe that there's going to be a judgment 00:24:55.84\00:24:58.48 of everyone before Jesus comes, because people were judged 00:24:58.51\00:25:01.63 when they died. 00:25:01.66\00:25:02.69 Are you following me tonight? 00:25:03.50\00:25:05.30 In other words, if you are wrong on the state of the dead 00:25:05.55\00:25:08.56 you will be wrong about the judgment, and vise versa. 00:25:08.59\00:25:12.35 Now what happens when all of the righteous have been judged? 00:25:12.95\00:25:16.13 When all of the righteous cases have come before the 00:25:16.16\00:25:18.93 judgment bar of God? 00:25:18.96\00:25:20.29 Probation will what? 00:25:21.23\00:25:23.91 Probation will close. 00:25:24.20\00:25:27.07 And every case will have been what? 00:25:27.59\00:25:29.88 Will have been decided for life or for death. 00:25:30.36\00:25:33.29 And there will be no opportunity to change. 00:25:33.32\00:25:36.94 Now let me make something very clear, folks. 00:25:37.04\00:25:39.38 There is a close of probation for the world. 00:25:40.99\00:25:44.51 But there is also an individual close of probation 00:25:45.54\00:25:48.25 before the close of probation for the world. 00:25:48.28\00:25:50.78 Do you know what that individual close of probation is? 00:25:51.65\00:25:54.42 When you die. 00:25:54.45\00:25:55.67 If you don't live to the moment when the world's probation ends, 00:25:57.46\00:26:00.73 but you die, when you die your probation was over. 00:26:01.29\00:26:04.80 Notice what we find in Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 27. 00:26:05.73\00:26:08.96 Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 27, the apostle Paul says, 00:26:08.99\00:26:12.38 "And as it is appointed for men to die once, 00:26:12.41\00:26:15.92 but after this..." What? 00:26:16.73\00:26:18.33 "...after this the judgment." 00:26:18.49\00:26:19.93 So is there going to be a close of human probation 00:26:20.29\00:26:22.98 where people will no longer be able to be saved? 00:26:23.22\00:26:26.18 When all cases will have been decided? 00:26:26.21\00:26:28.21 Absolutely. 00:26:28.31\00:26:29.35 Let me just review a couple of things that we studied 00:26:29.55\00:26:32.02 a couple of lectures ago. 00:26:32.05\00:26:33.56 Let's refer to what happened before the flood. 00:26:34.20\00:26:36.25 Genesis chapter 7 and verse 16. 00:26:36.28\00:26:38.53 It says... 00:26:38.56\00:26:39.59 Did it start to rain as soon as the door closed? 00:26:50.58\00:26:53.03 Absolutely not. 00:26:53.39\00:26:54.58 Seven days passed, and then it began to rain. 00:26:54.61\00:26:57.64 Did probation close before destruction came? 00:26:57.74\00:27:01.58 Absolutely. 00:27:01.61\00:27:02.86 Jesus made it clear in Matthew 24 verses 37 to 39. 00:27:03.10\00:27:07.21 This is review, but we need to review it because 00:27:07.24\00:27:09.43 it's very, very important. 00:27:09.46\00:27:10.86 Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus said... 00:27:10.89\00:27:14.30 That's the first "until." 00:27:26.77\00:27:28.31 First point of time, when the door closes. 00:27:28.34\00:27:30.30 He enters the ark, the door closes. 00:27:30.33\00:27:31.94 And then it says... 00:27:31.97\00:27:33.31 The people did not know that they were lost, in other words. 00:27:34.71\00:27:37.43 There's the second "until." 00:27:38.36\00:27:39.58 That's when it begins to rain. 00:27:39.61\00:27:41.00 Will probation close before Jesus comes? 00:27:48.38\00:27:51.10 Absolutely. 00:27:51.13\00:27:52.16 Will all cases of the righteous have been decided before 00:27:52.19\00:27:55.18 probation closes? 00:27:55.21\00:27:56.41 Absolutely. 00:27:56.44\00:27:57.47 Revelation 22 verse 11 is another verse that we 00:27:57.90\00:28:00.52 looked at in our study a couple of lectures ago. 00:28:00.55\00:28:04.33 It says there... 00:28:04.36\00:28:05.58 Probation closes before Jesus comes. 00:28:20.68\00:28:24.30 All cases are decided. 00:28:24.72\00:28:26.51 All the cases of the righteous have been evaluated, 00:28:26.54\00:28:29.58 and before the universe it's been shown that Jesus 00:28:29.61\00:28:32.36 has a right to bring these people home. 00:28:32.39\00:28:35.03 Now, what happens after the tribulation period? 00:28:35.86\00:28:40.83 Jesus comes. 00:28:40.86\00:28:42.17 And I want you to notice Revelation 22 and verse 12. 00:28:42.89\00:28:45.79 What happens when Jesus comes? 00:28:45.82\00:28:47.88 It says there, Revelation chapter 22 and verse 12, 00:28:48.19\00:28:51.16 Jesus is speaking... 00:28:51.19\00:28:52.64 What is Jesus bringing? 00:29:00.82\00:29:02.07 Can He bring the reward without determining beforehand 00:29:03.39\00:29:05.82 what the reward is? 00:29:05.85\00:29:07.03 Of course not. 00:29:07.19\00:29:08.33 You know, it's a solemn idea that in the Bible 00:29:16.09\00:29:18.46 people are saved by grace through faith, 00:29:18.49\00:29:20.30 but they will be judged by works. 00:29:20.33\00:29:21.98 Because you're works show if you're faith is real or not. 00:29:22.85\00:29:25.72 It's the proof of whether your faith was really 00:29:26.46\00:29:29.21 an active dynamic faith or whether your faith was 00:29:29.24\00:29:32.23 only an intellectual belief and a sham. 00:29:32.26\00:29:34.79 And so when Jesus comes, He brings His reward. 00:29:36.10\00:29:39.01 Which means He must have decided beforehand 00:29:39.04\00:29:41.74 what the reward would be. 00:29:41.77\00:29:43.26 Notice Matthew 16 verse 27 has the same idea. 00:29:43.54\00:29:46.97 Matthew 16 and verse 27. 00:29:47.34\00:29:49.72 It says... 00:29:49.99\00:29:51.02 When is Jesus going to give out the reward? 00:30:00.54\00:30:02.67 When He comes with all of His angels. 00:30:03.31\00:30:04.98 So did He give the reward to people when they died? 00:30:05.01\00:30:08.02 Absolutely not. 00:30:08.22\00:30:09.50 It's when Jesus comes that people receive their reward. 00:30:09.59\00:30:12.92 The apostle Paul expected His reward when Jesus comes. 00:30:12.95\00:30:16.39 Notice 2 Timothy chapter 4 and verses 6 through 8. 00:30:16.72\00:30:19.68 Here, the apostle Paul is in the Mamertine Prison in Rome. 00:30:20.03\00:30:23.66 He knows that soon he's going to be beheaded. 00:30:23.86\00:30:26.30 And I want you to notice what he says. 00:30:26.40\00:30:28.40 2 Timothy 4 verses 6 through 8. 00:30:28.43\00:30:30.71 Is Paul going to be... 00:30:51.58\00:30:53.75 Is his name going to go up through the judgment? 00:30:53.78\00:30:55.93 Absolutely. 00:30:56.29\00:30:57.52 Because here it says... 00:30:57.55\00:30:58.85 So Paul is going to receive a crown on that Day, right? 00:31:03.84\00:31:06.94 Now, when is that date? 00:31:07.46\00:31:09.20 When is it that Paul is going to be rewarded? 00:31:18.03\00:31:21.47 It's not when he died. 00:31:22.28\00:31:24.14 It's when Jesus, what? 00:31:24.17\00:31:26.22 When Jesus comes. 00:31:26.25\00:31:27.86 So when Jesus comes, He's going to bring His reward. 00:31:28.15\00:31:31.97 And of course, He is going to resurrect all of His 00:31:32.17\00:31:35.53 faithful people who died. 00:31:35.56\00:31:37.34 In fact, let's notice that in Revelation chapter 20 00:31:37.69\00:31:40.04 and verse 6. 00:31:40.07\00:31:41.28 Revelation chapter 20 and verse 6. 00:31:41.31\00:31:43.58 Here it's speaking about the resurrection before the 00:31:43.85\00:31:47.11 millennium at the second coming of Christ. 00:31:47.14\00:31:49.45 And it says, "Blessed and holy is he..." 00:31:49.65\00:31:52.84 The second resurrection is after the millennium. 00:31:56.69\00:31:58.43 That's the wicked. 00:31:58.46\00:31:59.65 So what's going to happen to the dead in Christ? 00:32:14.29\00:32:16.31 They are going to, what? 00:32:16.34\00:32:17.64 They are going to resurrect. 00:32:17.67\00:32:19.05 And what's going to happen with the righteous living? 00:32:19.08\00:32:21.22 They are going to be changed, according to 00:32:21.25\00:32:23.05 1 Corinthians chapter 15. 00:32:23.08\00:32:25.82 Now here's the big question. 00:32:26.59\00:32:28.16 Where will the righteous reign for 1000 years? 00:32:28.99\00:32:33.64 Will it be in heaven or will it be on earth? 00:32:33.89\00:32:37.35 It depends what your background is. 00:32:39.99\00:32:42.89 What you believe. 00:32:42.99\00:32:44.38 You see, most Christians today, 00:32:45.16\00:32:48.65 they say Jesus gave two promises. 00:32:49.41\00:32:51.97 First of all, He promised to take His people to heaven. 00:32:52.61\00:32:55.93 Right? 00:32:56.23\00:32:57.26 And secondly, He said the meek will inherit the earth. 00:32:57.66\00:33:00.99 So he promised heaven and He promised the new earth. 00:33:01.79\00:33:05.61 So how can Jesus fulfill both promises? 00:33:06.54\00:33:09.14 Well Christians say, "The only way that He can fulfill 00:33:09.17\00:33:12.71 both promises is if He raptures them to heaven for seven years. 00:33:12.74\00:33:17.36 And then after the seven years He comes, and the 00:33:18.15\00:33:20.94 meek inherit the earth." 00:33:20.97\00:33:22.55 That's the only way they say it can happen. 00:33:23.48\00:33:25.45 But Seventh-day Adventists believe that there's another 00:33:25.93\00:33:27.90 biblical way that can happen. 00:33:27.93\00:33:29.43 And that is that when Jesus comes at His second coming, 00:33:30.04\00:33:33.28 He will take His people to heaven for 1000 years. 00:33:34.07\00:33:37.23 And then after the 1000 years, He will bring them back 00:33:38.03\00:33:41.58 and He will created a new heavens and a new earth. 00:33:42.26\00:33:44.47 And the meek will inherit the earth. 00:33:44.50\00:33:46.31 See, it's because Christians believe that the millennium 00:33:46.93\00:33:51.53 is going to be on earth that they have to come up with 00:33:51.56\00:33:55.56 the rapture idea, because they say, 00:33:55.59\00:33:57.93 "Jesus promised to take His people to heaven. 00:33:57.96\00:34:00.29 Well if Jesus comes only at His second coming 00:34:00.32\00:34:03.35 and He establishes His kingdom on earth, then He never 00:34:03.38\00:34:06.20 fulfilled His promise to take His people to heaven." 00:34:06.23\00:34:08.53 That's why they say, "We need a rapture 00:34:08.90\00:34:10.73 so they can go to heaven for seven years. 00:34:10.76\00:34:13.17 And then they can come down and inherit the earth." 00:34:13.20\00:34:15.85 Are you understanding? 00:34:15.88\00:34:17.05 Scripture makes it very, very clear 00:34:17.69\00:34:19.82 that God's people will be in heaven for 1000 years. 00:34:20.58\00:34:24.47 They will not be here on earth during the 1000 year period. 00:34:24.67\00:34:29.39 You say, "Where does the Bible teach that?" 00:34:29.42\00:34:31.00 Go with me to John chapter 13 verses 36 and 37. 00:34:31.41\00:34:34.67 We're going to notice several verses now. 00:34:34.70\00:34:36.42 John 13 verses 36 and 37. 00:34:36.45\00:34:38.98 And then we'll read chapter 14 and verses 1 to 3. 00:34:39.01\00:34:41.95 Verse 36 says, "Simon Peter said to Him, 00:34:42.93\00:34:45.73 'Lord, where are You going?'" 00:34:45.76\00:34:47.13 Because Jesus said, "I'm leaving." 00:34:47.16\00:34:48.87 "'Where are You going?' 00:34:49.07\00:34:50.25 Jesus answered him, 'Where I am going you cannot 00:34:50.28\00:34:52.96 follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.'" 00:34:52.99\00:34:56.92 Did Jesus promise Peter that he was going to follow Him 00:34:57.80\00:35:00.26 where He was going to go? 00:35:00.29\00:35:01.73 Absolutely. 00:35:01.84\00:35:02.91 Now, notice what we find in verse 1 of chapter 14. 00:35:03.43\00:35:07.15 Where is the Father's house? 00:35:13.70\00:35:14.94 Jesus taught us to pray, "Our Father which art in heaven." 00:35:16.30\00:35:19.52 Did Jesus promise to take His people to heaven? 00:35:40.71\00:35:42.76 Very clearly He did. 00:35:43.54\00:35:44.92 He told Peter, "You're going to go where I'm going, 00:35:44.95\00:35:48.43 but it's not going to be now. 00:35:48.46\00:35:49.63 It's going to be later." 00:35:49.66\00:35:50.79 He promised to take us to His Father's house. 00:35:51.38\00:35:54.17 Now let's notice 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 00:35:54.90\00:35:57.53 and verses 15 through 17. 00:35:57.56\00:35:59.50 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 and verses 15 through 17. 00:35:59.60\00:36:03.68 This is a very clear passage. 00:36:04.12\00:36:06.07 It says there... 00:36:06.27\00:36:07.41 What does that refer to, "with them?" 00:36:38.80\00:36:40.61 With those who died and what? 00:36:41.48\00:36:43.15 With those who died and resurrected, right? 00:36:44.05\00:36:46.21 So did the righteous dead go to heaven before 00:36:46.44\00:36:49.39 those who are alive go to heaven? 00:36:49.42\00:36:50.72 No. They go to heaven how? 00:36:51.20\00:36:52.70 Together, according to Scripture. 00:36:53.10\00:36:55.61 And so it says in verse 17... 00:36:55.64\00:36:57.02 What are those clouds? 00:37:05.88\00:37:07.11 Angels. Very important. 00:37:07.84\00:37:09.38 Is Jesus coming back to this earth to establish His kingdom 00:37:15.73\00:37:18.54 at His second coming? 00:37:18.57\00:37:19.63 No, He is not coming down. 00:37:19.94\00:37:21.63 We are going, what? 00:37:21.66\00:37:22.79 We are going up. 00:37:22.82\00:37:24.14 And so it says... 00:37:24.25\00:37:25.28 This is the reason why Matthew chapter 24, 00:37:29.01\00:37:31.17 the last several verses, when Jesus comes, 00:37:31.20\00:37:33.93 it says He will send forth His angels to gather His elect 00:37:33.96\00:37:38.07 from the four winds. 00:37:38.10\00:37:39.59 And where is He going to gather them? 00:37:41.09\00:37:42.40 We just read in 1 Thessalonians 4. 00:37:42.43\00:37:44.09 He going to gather them in the clouds. 00:37:44.12\00:37:46.26 To meet Him where? 00:37:46.73\00:37:48.10 To meet Him in the air. 00:37:48.44\00:37:49.96 And then what is Jesus going to do? 00:37:50.06\00:37:52.28 He's going to establish His kingdom here on earth 00:37:52.31\00:37:54.03 for 1000 years? 00:37:54.06\00:37:55.35 No, He's going to take His people where? 00:37:55.55\00:37:57.86 He's going to take His people to His Father's house. 00:37:58.32\00:38:01.64 Is all heaven going to be in agreement that God was right 00:38:03.07\00:38:06.11 in taking all these people to heaven? 00:38:06.14\00:38:07.82 Did they see the judgment, did the angels watch the judgment? 00:38:08.44\00:38:11.59 Were the names of the righteous confessed before the holy angels 00:38:11.78\00:38:16.15 and before the Father? 00:38:16.18\00:38:17.25 Absolutely. All cases were examined. 00:38:17.28\00:38:19.33 And the heavenly courts, the heavenly counsel says, 00:38:19.50\00:38:22.93 "You're right in every single case. 00:38:22.96\00:38:24.94 Bring them all home." 00:38:24.97\00:38:26.19 Now there's no special urgency with the wicked, 00:38:27.18\00:38:29.32 because the wicked were left behind. 00:38:29.35\00:38:31.33 And they were left behind all dead. 00:38:32.73\00:38:34.74 Now let's talk about the second stage of the judgment. 00:38:36.97\00:38:39.62 This is the millennial judgment. 00:38:40.54\00:38:42.18 It's a judgment that takes place during the 1000 years. 00:38:42.21\00:38:45.48 Do you know who's going to be judged during the 1000 years? 00:38:46.23\00:38:48.90 It's certainly not the righteous, because 00:38:48.93\00:38:50.40 they were judged before Jesus came. 00:38:50.43\00:38:52.11 And they were taken to heaven. 00:38:52.92\00:38:54.47 So the question is, who is going to be judged 00:38:55.68\00:38:57.61 during the 1000 years? 00:38:57.64\00:38:59.15 The fact is that the Bible tells us that those who are 00:38:59.82\00:39:03.04 going to be judged are the wicked. 00:39:03.07\00:39:05.47 And also Satan and his angels. 00:39:05.92\00:39:07.70 I'm going to read you an interesting text from Scripture. 00:39:07.73\00:39:09.77 Let's go to Revelation chapter 20 and verse 4. 00:39:09.80\00:39:12.86 Revelation chapter 20 and verse 4. 00:39:13.06\00:39:15.27 It says here, "And I saw thrones..." 00:39:15.79\00:39:17.96 And listen carefully. 00:39:20.82\00:39:22.03 Are God's people going to participate in the judgment? 00:39:26.90\00:39:29.45 Absolutely. 00:39:30.14\00:39:31.17 "Judgment was committed to them." 00:39:31.36\00:39:33.38 Are those people going to participate 00:39:52.62\00:39:54.32 in the work of judgment? 00:39:54.35\00:39:55.64 Yes, because it says, "I saw thrones, and they sat on them, 00:39:56.00\00:40:00.18 and judgment was committed to them." 00:40:00.21\00:40:02.63 The question is, who are they going to judge? 00:40:03.28\00:40:07.27 Well let's go to Revelation chapter 20 and verses 11 and 12, 00:40:07.65\00:40:11.08 and then to an interesting text in 1 Corinthians. 00:40:11.11\00:40:13.95 Revelation chapter 20 and verses 11 and 12. 00:40:14.15\00:40:17.44 It says here... 00:40:18.33\00:40:19.36 How can dead people stand before God? 00:40:40.49\00:40:42.40 The text tells us how they stand before God. 00:40:45.61\00:40:47.90 It's not dead people standing before God. 00:40:47.93\00:40:50.10 They stand up there through their records. 00:40:50.13\00:40:52.29 Just like before the second coming, the righteous 00:40:52.83\00:40:55.38 stood before God through their records. 00:40:55.41\00:40:57.10 You say, "Where does it say that?" 00:40:57.13\00:40:58.29 Let's continue reading, verse 12, 00:40:58.32\00:40:59.83 "And I saw the dead small and great standing before God..." 00:40:59.86\00:41:02.63 And what? 00:41:02.66\00:41:03.69 Listen carefully. 00:41:11.37\00:41:12.40 Were they dead or were they alive? 00:41:12.43\00:41:14.34 Dead. 00:41:14.75\00:41:15.78 So how do they appear before the judgment bar of God 00:41:22.64\00:41:25.54 during the 1000 years? 00:41:25.57\00:41:27.05 Through their records. 00:41:27.61\00:41:28.64 Through what is written in the books. 00:41:28.67\00:41:30.55 Because God has an exact transcript of them in heaven. 00:41:30.58\00:41:33.67 Now which dead is this referring to? 00:41:35.01\00:41:37.14 Is this referring to the righteous dead? 00:41:37.17\00:41:38.93 No, we just read about the righteous dead. 00:41:39.22\00:41:41.54 This is speaking about the wicked dead. 00:41:41.57\00:41:43.81 Now go with me to a captivating passage 00:41:44.50\00:41:46.64 in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 and verses 1 to 3. 00:41:46.67\00:41:50.11 Chapter 6 of 1 Corinthians verses 1 to 3. 00:41:50.42\00:41:53.40 Here, the apostle Paul clarifies who God's people 00:41:53.43\00:41:56.78 are going to judge, who the righteous are going to judge 00:41:56.81\00:41:59.21 during the 1000 years. 00:41:59.24\00:42:00.61 It says here in 1 Corinthians 6 verses 1 to 3... 00:42:00.97\00:42:04.44 In other words, should you go to a court of law to 00:42:13.06\00:42:14.97 sue your brother in a secular court of law? 00:42:15.00\00:42:17.57 He continues saying... 00:42:18.36\00:42:19.47 And the word, "world," refers to worldly people. 00:42:26.47\00:42:29.06 It's not talking about, you know, the... 00:42:29.09\00:42:30.81 The mass of the world doesn't need a judgment. 00:42:31.00\00:42:33.65 It's talking about the worldly people. 00:42:33.68\00:42:35.77 And so it continues saying... 00:42:36.75\00:42:38.11 And then notice what it says. 00:42:46.04\00:42:47.53 What are the saints going to judge? 00:42:54.03\00:42:55.85 Angels. 00:42:56.35\00:42:57.40 I suppose those are the good angels they're going to judge. 00:42:57.61\00:43:00.12 No, the good angels don't need a judgment. 00:43:00.57\00:43:02.58 The saints are going to judge which angels? 00:43:03.01\00:43:05.81 Satan and his angels. 00:43:06.10\00:43:07.99 They're going to even look at the record of Satan's 00:43:08.02\00:43:10.44 existence and life, as well as his angels. 00:43:10.47\00:43:13.26 And so it says, "Do you not know that we shall judge angels? 00:43:13.40\00:43:16.40 How much more things that pertain to this life?" 00:43:16.58\00:43:19.92 I like to compare this millennial judgment 00:43:20.25\00:43:22.65 with God's great audit. 00:43:22.75\00:43:25.11 Do you think that when the records are opened in heaven 00:43:26.85\00:43:28.85 the righteous, you know, we're looking at the records 00:43:28.88\00:43:30.90 and we're seeing why these people were lost. 00:43:30.93\00:43:33.98 Because there's people absent in heaven that we thought 00:43:34.01\00:43:37.30 for sure were going to be there. 00:43:37.33\00:43:38.60 And then there's some other people that are there 00:43:39.13\00:43:40.76 and we say, "We thought that they would never make it." 00:43:40.79\00:43:42.88 And so God opens the books and He says, 00:43:43.97\00:43:47.35 "Was the book keeping done right? 00:43:48.59\00:43:51.26 Was I right in excluding all of these people?" 00:43:51.77\00:43:54.22 Let me ask you, what does an auditor do? 00:43:55.04\00:43:56.72 A good auditor doctors the books. 00:43:57.56\00:44:00.44 No, all he does is he examines the books to see if the 00:44:01.60\00:44:05.45 accounting was done correctly. 00:44:05.48\00:44:07.15 And so during the 1000 years, the purpose is to convince 00:44:07.91\00:44:10.99 God's people, as well as the heavenly beings, 00:44:11.02\00:44:14.12 that God was right in every case of those who were left behind. 00:44:14.15\00:44:18.89 Are you following me or not? 00:44:19.74\00:44:21.06 I like to compare it also with an instant replay. 00:44:22.67\00:44:25.07 Don't you think that when we're examining the books in heaven 00:44:25.97\00:44:28.04 we're going to say, "Lord, that guy down there 00:44:28.07\00:44:30.95 should be up here." 00:44:30.98\00:44:32.21 That's not going to happen. 00:44:32.63\00:44:33.78 Because all cases will have been decided correctly 00:44:34.44\00:44:37.73 before Jesus comes. 00:44:38.00\00:44:39.98 It's like an instant replay. 00:44:41.22\00:44:42.56 Does an instant replay change the play? 00:44:42.93\00:44:45.24 No, all it does is reveal whether the umpire 00:44:45.54\00:44:49.19 made the right call. 00:44:49.22\00:44:50.72 And that's what's going to be revealed. 00:44:51.49\00:44:53.16 It's going to be revealed whether God actually 00:44:53.19\00:44:56.52 made the right call in every single case of those 00:44:56.55\00:45:01.50 who were left behind. 00:45:01.53\00:45:02.83 And also we will be able to examine the cases of 00:45:03.52\00:45:07.66 those who are there who we never thought would be there. 00:45:07.69\00:45:11.88 And as we examine the books, we'll say, 00:45:12.47\00:45:14.20 "Lord, You did it right. 00:45:14.23\00:45:16.00 Everybody that's here should be here. 00:45:16.38\00:45:18.50 And everybody that's not here, we now see 00:45:18.53\00:45:22.17 that You gave them an opportunity. 00:45:22.20\00:45:24.04 But they rejected the opportunity." 00:45:24.07\00:45:25.88 And so that's the millennial judgment. 00:45:26.75\00:45:28.53 Every case of every wicked person, and the devil 00:45:28.93\00:45:31.85 and his angels will be examined. 00:45:31.88\00:45:34.06 And now we must go to stage number three. 00:45:34.88\00:45:37.01 Stage number three takes place after the millennium. 00:45:37.90\00:45:40.91 Revelation chapter 20 and verse 5 tells us that 00:45:41.75\00:45:44.79 the rest of the dead did not live again until the 00:45:44.82\00:45:47.50 1000 years were ended. 00:45:47.53\00:45:48.76 Who are "the rest of the dead?" 00:45:49.89\00:45:51.18 When did the righteous resurrect? 00:45:51.21\00:45:52.82 At the second coming, at the beginning of the millennium. 00:45:53.73\00:45:55.94 So who are "the rest of the dead" that don't rise again 00:45:55.97\00:45:58.70 until the 1000 years are finished? 00:45:58.73\00:46:00.20 It must be the wicked. 00:46:00.97\00:46:02.29 So they resurrect after the 1000 years. 00:46:02.54\00:46:05.10 Have they already been judged in heaven? 00:46:05.13\00:46:07.04 They most certainly have. 00:46:07.49\00:46:08.70 Have they seen their case examined? 00:46:09.00\00:46:11.77 No. Has the devil and his angels seen their cases examined? 00:46:12.53\00:46:17.81 Absolutely not. 00:46:17.84\00:46:18.87 Are they convinced about the righteousness of God 00:46:18.90\00:46:21.52 in being outside the holy city? 00:46:21.55\00:46:23.20 Absolutely not. 00:46:23.48\00:46:24.66 And so what's going to happen is the devil is going to go 00:46:25.74\00:46:27.84 in the midst of all of the wicked and he's going to 00:46:27.87\00:46:30.73 persuade them to attack the holy city. 00:46:30.76\00:46:33.35 He's going to say, "Those people in there, 00:46:33.45\00:46:35.04 they've stolen the city. 00:46:35.07\00:46:36.26 It really belongs to us." 00:46:36.29\00:46:37.66 And for a period of time all of the wicked are going to 00:46:38.17\00:46:41.69 buy into the devil's deceptions and they're going to 00:46:41.72\00:46:44.37 prepare for war. 00:46:44.40\00:46:45.78 Notice Revelation chapter 20 verses 7 through 9. 00:46:46.73\00:46:49.64 Revelation 20:7-9. 00:46:49.67\00:46:51.17 At this point the wicked don't know all of the issues. 00:46:51.20\00:46:53.85 It says... 00:46:54.05\00:46:55.10 I wish I had time to talk about that. 00:47:00.09\00:47:01.82 Why is the devil is prison? 00:47:01.85\00:47:03.43 What is the devil's power base? 00:47:04.81\00:47:06.83 His power base is his people, right? 00:47:07.62\00:47:09.81 He's able to deceive people. 00:47:10.44\00:47:12.46 But what happens during the millennium with all his people? 00:47:13.08\00:47:15.70 They're all dead. 00:47:16.25\00:47:17.44 So he's all tied up. 00:47:17.71\00:47:19.12 He has no one to deceive. 00:47:19.57\00:47:21.15 His power base is gone. 00:47:21.51\00:47:23.06 That's what it means when it says that he is bound. 00:47:23.09\00:47:26.24 He's bound while his people are dead. 00:47:26.44\00:47:28.43 And he's unbound when his people are alive. 00:47:28.46\00:47:31.54 So his people come to life after the 1000 years 00:47:31.96\00:47:34.82 and he gets his power back. 00:47:34.85\00:47:36.70 And so it says... 00:47:36.90\00:47:37.93 But there's something that happened before 00:47:56.28\00:47:58.19 the fire devoured them. 00:47:58.22\00:47:59.44 The books are now opened before the devil and his angels 00:47:59.98\00:48:03.27 and the wicked for them to see why they were lost. 00:48:03.30\00:48:05.82 Because God will not destroy them without them admitting 00:48:06.95\00:48:09.91 that God was right in leaving them outside. 00:48:09.94\00:48:12.42 Notice Revelation chapter 20 and verse 13. 00:48:12.95\00:48:15.69 Revelation chapter 20 and verse 13. 00:48:16.07\00:48:18.03 Here it speaks about the resurrection of the wicked, 00:48:18.06\00:48:20.45 and the judgment that is going to take place. 00:48:20.76\00:48:22.89 It says, "The sea gave up the dead who were in it..." 00:48:23.09\00:48:26.04 What does that mean, "The sea gave up the dead?" 00:48:26.07\00:48:28.11 It means that the dead are what? 00:48:30.86\00:48:32.58 Resurrecting. 00:48:33.39\00:48:34.67 "...and Death and Hades," that's the grave, 00:48:34.70\00:48:37.36 "delivered up the dead who were in them." 00:48:37.39\00:48:39.02 In other words, the dead are what? 00:48:39.05\00:48:40.82 They're resurrecting. 00:48:41.18\00:48:42.76 And now what happens? 00:48:43.45\00:48:44.75 "And they were..." What? 00:48:44.78\00:48:46.40 "...judged, each one according to his works." 00:48:46.78\00:48:50.62 Are the wicked going to resurrect and see the 00:48:51.43\00:48:53.40 record of their lives as well? 00:48:53.43\00:48:54.74 Is God going to show and persuade them that He was 00:48:54.95\00:48:57.38 right in the way that He dealt with them? 00:48:57.41\00:49:00.00 Absolutely. 00:49:00.15\00:49:01.20 Now what was written in the books that condemned them? 00:49:01.94\00:49:04.39 Revelation 21 and verse 8 gives a list of some of the things 00:49:05.19\00:49:08.32 that they were guilty of that they did not 00:49:08.35\00:49:10.26 repent of or confess. 00:49:10.29\00:49:12.17 They did not receive Jesus. 00:49:12.58\00:49:14.30 It says... 00:49:14.42\00:49:15.45 Are those the things that they're going to see in the 00:49:28.77\00:49:30.34 records of their lives? 00:49:30.37\00:49:31.52 Absolutely. 00:49:31.75\00:49:32.78 And that's why they are outside the holy city. 00:49:32.81\00:49:35.60 I'd like to read you a passage that we find in, 00:49:36.09\00:49:39.23 Great Controversy, page 666, where this stage of the 00:49:39.26\00:49:43.19 judgment is described. 00:49:43.22\00:49:44.89 Notice what Ellen White describes in this page. 00:49:44.99\00:49:49.34 You'll never forget it; page 666. 00:49:49.37\00:49:52.38 "As soon as the books of record are opened, 00:49:54.03\00:49:56.93 and the eye of Jesus looks upon the wicked, 00:49:57.65\00:50:01.04 they are conscious of every sin which they have ever committed. 00:50:01.65\00:50:07.25 They see just where their feet diverged from the path 00:50:07.76\00:50:11.53 of purity and holiness, just how far pride and rebellion 00:50:11.56\00:50:21.05 have carried them in the violation of the law of God. 00:50:21.08\00:50:23.67 The seductive temptations which they encouraged 00:50:24.29\00:50:27.05 by indulgence in sin, the blessings perverted, 00:50:27.08\00:50:30.68 the messengers of God despised, the warnings rejected, 00:50:30.71\00:50:35.07 the waves of mercy beaten back by the stubborn 00:50:35.10\00:50:38.74 unrepentant heart; all appear as if written in letters of fire." 00:50:38.77\00:50:44.29 They will see the record of their lives. 00:50:45.18\00:50:47.04 And then do you know what's going to happen? 00:50:47.74\00:50:49.45 The Bible tells us in Isaiah 45, and this is quoted also in 00:50:50.27\00:50:54.39 Philippians chapter 2, that every knee will bow 00:50:54.42\00:50:57.76 and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, 00:50:57.79\00:51:02.00 to the glory of God the Father. 00:51:02.03\00:51:03.62 In other words, the whole universe at this moment, 00:51:03.65\00:51:05.95 even the devil and his angels, will bow and they will say, 00:51:05.98\00:51:10.13 "God, we're out here. 00:51:10.16\00:51:12.24 We hate You with a passion. 00:51:12.27\00:51:14.61 But we have to admit that You got it right. 00:51:14.72\00:51:17.44 We're lost because we chose to be lost." 00:51:17.47\00:51:21.09 Philippians chapter 2 verses 5 through 11 says, 00:51:21.41\00:51:24.01 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 00:51:24.04\00:51:27.55 who being in the form of God did not consider it robbery 00:51:27.75\00:51:30.63 to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, 00:51:30.66\00:51:34.25 taking the form of a bondservant, and coming 00:51:34.28\00:51:36.53 in the likeness of men. 00:51:36.56\00:51:37.96 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself 00:51:38.22\00:51:41.42 and became obedient to the point of death, 00:51:41.62\00:51:43.88 even the death of the cross." 00:51:43.91\00:51:45.37 Ellen White describes this great panoramic view 00:51:45.40\00:51:47.90 above the city where all of the events of the life of Christ 00:51:47.93\00:51:51.22 and the sufferings and the death of Christ are seen 00:51:51.25\00:51:53.69 by the wicked above the city. 00:51:53.72\00:51:54.81 What they could have had if they had accepted Jesus Christ. 00:51:54.84\00:51:57.79 That's what's being described here. 00:51:57.82\00:51:59.30 And then when they see that, what they could have had, 00:51:59.89\00:52:02.23 and how their lives have been a violation of God's law. 00:52:02.37\00:52:05.87 Notice what happens according to verse 9. 00:52:06.97\00:52:10.54 "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him 00:52:10.57\00:52:14.51 the name which is above every name, that at the 00:52:14.54\00:52:16.78 name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, 00:52:16.81\00:52:20.48 and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 00:52:20.51\00:52:23.76 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ 00:52:24.17\00:52:27.83 is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." 00:52:27.86\00:52:30.66 And now the controversy reaches its climax, 00:52:32.12\00:52:34.31 because the wicked have seen the record of their lives. 00:52:34.34\00:52:36.94 The devil has deceived them into thinking that he is right, 00:52:37.14\00:52:40.11 they are right, and those in the city are wrong, God is wrong. 00:52:40.14\00:52:42.85 But now they've seen the record. 00:52:42.95\00:52:44.85 They've seen what they could have had 00:52:44.88\00:52:46.65 by accepting Jesus Christ. 00:52:46.68\00:52:48.53 They see that they have been excluded by their own choice. 00:52:48.56\00:52:51.98 And they are filled with rage. 00:52:52.27\00:52:54.93 Not against God, but against the deceiver. 00:52:56.19\00:53:00.28 You know, there's this idea in the Adventist Church 00:53:01.59\00:53:04.18 that the wicked are destroyed when they're 00:53:04.21\00:53:05.63 attacking the holy city. 00:53:05.66\00:53:07.14 That is not biblical. 00:53:08.66\00:53:09.99 The wicked die attacking Satan. 00:53:10.78\00:53:13.94 Allow me to read you, first of all, from Great Controversy, 00:53:15.42\00:53:17.67 and then I'm going to read you a passage from 00:53:17.70\00:53:19.21 the book of Ezekiel. 00:53:19.24\00:53:20.49 Ellen White describes this, she says, 00:53:21.67\00:53:23.24 "He rushes into the midst of his subjects 00:53:23.44\00:53:25.87 and endeavors to inspire them with his own fury 00:53:26.07\00:53:28.93 and arouse them to instant battle. 00:53:28.96\00:53:31.30 But of all the countless millions whom he has 00:53:32.06\00:53:36.78 allured into rebellion, there are none now 00:53:36.81\00:53:41.16 to acknowledge his supremacy. 00:53:41.19\00:53:43.31 His power is at an end. 00:53:43.34\00:53:45.81 The wicked are filled with the same hatred of God that 00:53:46.91\00:53:49.75 inspires Satan, but they see that there case is hopeless, 00:53:49.78\00:53:53.02 that they cannot prevail against Jehovah. 00:53:53.35\00:53:55.63 Their rage is kindled against Satan and those who have 00:53:55.84\00:53:59.62 been his agents in deception. 00:53:59.65\00:54:01.76 And with the fury of demons they turn on them." 00:54:01.79\00:54:06.60 And then Ellen White quotes a passage from Scripture 00:54:07.75\00:54:10.22 to back up what she's saying. 00:54:10.25\00:54:11.68 Ezekiel chapter 28 and verses 6 through 10. 00:54:11.71\00:54:15.64 Notice what it says there. 00:54:15.67\00:54:17.94 "Therefore, thus says the Lord God..." 00:54:18.14\00:54:19.82 It's speaking about this glorious being; 00:54:19.85\00:54:21.37 Lucifer, the covering cherub. 00:54:21.40\00:54:22.73 That's the theme of chapter 28 of Ezekiel. 00:54:22.76\00:54:25.40 "Therefore, thus says the Lord God, 00:54:25.60\00:54:27.14 'Because you have set your heart as the heart of God...'" 00:54:27.17\00:54:30.36 Remember he said, "I will be like the Most High." 00:54:30.96\00:54:32.80 "...behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you, 00:54:33.24\00:54:37.59 the most terrible of the nations; and they shall 00:54:37.84\00:54:40.94 draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, 00:54:40.97\00:54:43.81 and defile your splendor. 00:54:43.84\00:54:45.88 They shall throw you down into the Pit, and you shall 00:54:46.33\00:54:49.22 die the death of the slain in the midst of the seas." 00:54:49.25\00:54:52.04 The seas represent multitudes, nations, tongues, and peoples. 00:54:52.07\00:54:55.10 "Will you still say before him who slays you, 'I am God?' 00:54:55.75\00:54:59.86 But you shall be a man, and not a god..." 00:55:00.29\00:55:03.76 Well you say, "Well, the devil isn't a man." 00:55:03.79\00:55:05.90 Sometimes in the Bible angels are called men. 00:55:06.00\00:55:08.24 For example, in Daniel chapter 9, Daniel says, 00:55:08.27\00:55:10.96 "That man, Gabriel, who I had seen in the 00:55:10.99\00:55:13.86 vision at the beginning." 00:55:13.89\00:55:14.92 So don't get thrown off by that. 00:55:14.95\00:55:16.81 Verse 9, "'Will you still say before him who slays you, 00:55:16.84\00:55:19.77 "I am a god?" 00:55:19.80\00:55:20.83 But you shall be a man, and not a god, 00:55:21.16\00:55:25.05 in the hand of him who slays you. 00:55:25.08\00:55:27.96 You shall die the death of the uncircumcised, 00:55:27.99\00:55:30.62 by the hand of aliens. 00:55:30.65\00:55:32.40 For I have spoken,' says the Lord God." 00:55:33.08\00:55:38.04 At this point let me ask you, is all of the universe 00:55:39.48\00:55:42.24 on the same page? 00:55:42.27\00:55:43.74 All agree. 00:55:45.50\00:55:46.93 The righteous, the heavenly beings, Satan, the wicked, 00:55:47.37\00:55:54.84 his angels. 00:55:55.57\00:55:56.94 All have seen the process of judgment. 00:55:57.48\00:55:59.95 Everyone is persuaded that God has been right 00:55:59.98\00:56:03.33 in the way in which He has dealt with sin. 00:56:03.36\00:56:06.42 And then the Bible tells us that the last enemy 00:56:07.05\00:56:09.08 that will be destroyed is death. 00:56:09.11\00:56:10.60 1 Corinthians 15 verse 26. 00:56:10.70\00:56:13.13 "Then Death and Hades..." 00:56:14.22\00:56:16.60 This is Revelation 20:14-15. 00:56:16.63\00:56:18.55 "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. 00:56:18.58\00:56:22.46 This is the second death. 00:56:22.56\00:56:24.39 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life 00:56:24.42\00:56:26.79 was cast into the lake of fire." 00:56:26.99\00:56:29.32 And then the Bible tells us that God will create a new heavens 00:56:29.52\00:56:33.61 and a new earth. 00:56:33.64\00:56:34.67 And the meek shall inherit the earth. 00:56:34.70\00:56:37.61 And I'd like to end by reading that beautiful passage 00:56:39.40\00:56:42.32 in Revelation 21 verses 3 and 4. 00:56:42.35\00:56:44.76 "And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 00:56:44.96\00:56:47.02 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, 00:56:47.05\00:56:49.57 and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. 00:56:50.37\00:56:53.04 God Himself will be with them and be their God. 00:56:53.42\00:56:55.98 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes..." 00:56:56.79\00:56:59.88 And then God will have a clean universe 00:57:11.34\00:57:13.71 where sin will never rise again. 00:57:14.08\00:57:16.15 Who in his right mind would ever want to 00:57:16.18\00:57:18.65 experiment with sin again after seeing what has happened? 00:57:18.68\00:57:23.01 And God's people will live forever more with the Lord. 00:57:23.32\00:57:27.14
