Let's pray. 00:00:32.01\00:00:33.27 Once again, heavenly Father, Thank You for blessing us 00:00:34.42\00:00:37.65 with Your presence. 00:00:37.68\00:00:38.93 Thank You for Your Word. 00:00:39.38\00:00:40.88 We live in a world were everything seems to be 00:00:41.58\00:00:44.25 spinning out of control. 00:00:44.28\00:00:45.85 But we Thank You that we can build upon the solid Rock 00:00:46.37\00:00:50.55 of Your Holy Word to know what has happened, 00:00:50.58\00:00:53.72 what is happening, and what soon will take place 00:00:53.75\00:00:57.12 on this earth. 00:00:57.47\00:00:58.58 We ask for Your guidance as we open Your holy book today. 00:00:59.02\00:01:02.51 Send Your Holy Spirit through the ministration of the angels 00:01:02.92\00:01:05.73 to make things clear to our minds and to open our hearts. 00:01:05.76\00:01:09.89 And we thank You for hearing our prayer, 00:01:10.27\00:01:12.31 for we ask it in Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:12.64\00:01:15.86 Israel had just crossed the Red Sea. 00:01:17.87\00:01:22.49 And they had sung the song of Moses, in Exodus chapter 15. 00:01:24.27\00:01:29.17 And then they arrived in the desert to a place where 00:01:30.87\00:01:34.03 God wanted to test their willingness to obey 00:01:34.06\00:01:38.76 His holy law. 00:01:38.79\00:01:40.17 Go with me in your Bibles to Exodus chapter 16 and verse 4, 00:01:41.11\00:01:46.05 and let's take a look at what that test was. 00:01:46.08\00:01:49.93 Exodus 16 and verse 4. 00:01:50.44\00:01:53.51 Why were they to do this? 00:02:10.24\00:02:11.97 Notice... 00:02:12.00\00:02:13.17 Is this a test for Israel? 00:02:15.84\00:02:17.64 Yes. 00:02:17.67\00:02:18.70 In other words, the purpose of this test is to see if 00:02:27.21\00:02:29.90 Israel is willing to obey, what? 00:02:29.93\00:02:32.95 God's holy law. 00:02:33.88\00:02:36.61 It is a test. 00:02:36.64\00:02:37.99 And so the Bible tells us that God rained what is known as 00:02:38.74\00:02:43.45 manna from heaven. 00:02:43.48\00:02:45.26 Now the word, "manna," simply means, "what is it." 00:02:45.73\00:02:49.66 Because when the manna fell to the earth, 00:02:50.34\00:02:52.45 the Israelites came out, they had never seen this before, 00:02:53.20\00:02:56.44 and so they started saying, "Manna, manna." 00:02:56.47\00:03:00.01 In other words, "What is it? What is it?" 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.92 And it was actually bread that God had rained from heaven. 00:03:03.44\00:03:08.26 Now God told the Israelites to go out and gather 00:03:09.29\00:03:13.25 the manna six days a week. 00:03:13.28\00:03:16.72 Every day they were suppose to gather manna 00:03:17.11\00:03:20.07 except for the Sabbath. 00:03:20.10\00:03:21.92 We start to catch a glimpse of the fact that God is 00:03:21.95\00:03:25.49 testing them regarding what? 00:03:25.52\00:03:27.72 Regarding the observance of the seventh day Sabbath. 00:03:27.75\00:03:31.15 This is before God gave the Ten Commandments 00:03:31.58\00:03:34.65 on Mount Sinai. 00:03:34.68\00:03:35.95 God is testing their willingness to keep His holy Sabbath. 00:03:36.38\00:03:41.39 And the Bible tells us that some of the Israelites 00:03:41.82\00:03:43.94 went out to pick up manna on the Sabbath and they found none. 00:03:43.97\00:03:47.62 And notice Exodus 16 and verse 28 00:03:47.91\00:03:50.91 the words that we find where God is speaking to the Israelites 00:03:51.23\00:03:57.24 that have gone out to look for manna and they have found none. 00:03:57.27\00:04:00.71 Here God says, "How long do you refuse to keep My..." What? 00:04:01.10\00:04:08.54 "...My commandments and My laws?" 00:04:08.74\00:04:12.14 Interesting. 00:04:12.17\00:04:13.20 God had not yet revealed His commandments or His laws. 00:04:13.23\00:04:16.06 That comes in Exodus 20. 00:04:16.92\00:04:18.82 So it must be that the Sabbath existed before God 00:04:19.21\00:04:22.81 gave it at Mount Sinai. 00:04:22.84\00:04:24.12 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:04:24.15\00:04:25.83 Because God says, "How long do you refuse to keep 00:04:25.86\00:04:29.08 My commandments and My laws?" 00:04:29.28\00:04:30.84 And this particular commandment had to do with not picking up 00:04:30.87\00:04:35.08 manna when? 00:04:35.11\00:04:36.45 On the Sabbath. 00:04:36.48\00:04:37.77 It was a command, in other words, to observe 00:04:37.80\00:04:40.40 God's holy Sabbath. 00:04:40.43\00:04:42.21 Now it becomes obvious that God wanted to teach a profound 00:04:42.62\00:04:46.15 lesson through the manna. 00:04:46.18\00:04:47.66 And we know this because after God gave manna to Israel, 00:04:48.13\00:04:53.11 He commanded the Israelites to take some of the manna 00:04:53.78\00:04:58.42 and put it in a golden pot and place it inside 00:04:58.45\00:05:02.80 the ark of the covenant. 00:05:02.83\00:05:04.28 This must have been very, very important because there were 00:05:04.80\00:05:08.12 only three things that were in the ark of the covenant, 00:05:08.15\00:05:10.25 we're going to notice. 00:05:10.28\00:05:11.31 There was, first of all, the tables of the law; 00:05:11.43\00:05:13.56 the Ten Commandments. 00:05:13.59\00:05:14.62 Secondly, Aaron's rod that budded. 00:05:14.65\00:05:17.18 And in the third place, a golden pot of manna. 00:05:17.21\00:05:20.17 Let's read about that pot of manna. 00:05:20.20\00:05:22.91 Exodus 16 and verses 32 through 34. 00:05:23.33\00:05:28.36 An omer is about half a gallon. 00:05:36.31\00:05:38.10 Remember what the Testimony is, the tables of the Testimony? 00:06:08.03\00:06:11.00 We talked about that last evening. 00:06:11.03\00:06:13.37 Now I want to read a passage from Hebrews chapter 9 00:06:17.89\00:06:20.74 where it clearly tells us that the pot of manna 00:06:20.77\00:06:23.29 and Aaron's rod and the Ten Commandments 00:06:23.32\00:06:25.26 were inside the ark of the covenant. 00:06:25.29\00:06:27.41 Notice Hebrews chapter 9, and we'll read verses 1 through 5. 00:06:27.68\00:06:31.26 It says there... 00:06:32.10\00:06:33.15 Which apartment is that? 00:06:55.94\00:06:57.38 That is the Holy Place. 00:06:57.74\00:07:00.66 And then it continues saying in verse 3... 00:07:00.69\00:07:03.18 Actually, a better translation is, the Holy of Holies. 00:07:09.79\00:07:13.04 And now notice what was in the ark of the covenant. 00:07:20.83\00:07:23.73 So question, was the manna in the ark of the covenant? 00:07:45.78\00:07:49.65 Yes it was. 00:07:49.85\00:07:50.93 Was Aaron's rod in the ark of the covenant? 00:07:50.96\00:07:53.67 Yes, we'll talk about Aaron's rod later on in this series. 00:07:53.91\00:07:57.53 The Ten Commandments, of course, were found 00:07:57.73\00:08:00.13 inside the ark of the covenant. 00:08:00.16\00:08:02.15 But now we have a little problem. 00:08:02.79\00:08:04.28 It just so happens that Hebrews is describing the tabernacle 00:08:05.20\00:08:10.68 that was built in the desert. 00:08:10.71\00:08:12.97 But what about Solomon's temple? 00:08:13.65\00:08:15.79 Was the pot of manna and was Aaron's rod 00:08:16.13\00:08:20.28 in the temple that Solomon built? 00:08:20.31\00:08:23.62 This is where we have a problem. 00:08:24.26\00:08:25.73 Go with me to 1 Kings chapter 8 and verse 9. 00:08:26.22\00:08:29.36 1 Kings chapter 8 and verse 9. 00:08:29.39\00:08:32.47 It's speaking here about the ark of the covenant. 00:08:32.72\00:08:35.40 And notice a very interesting detail. 00:08:35.43\00:08:37.80 It says there, "Nothing was in the ark except 00:08:38.96\00:08:44.69 the two tables of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, 00:08:44.72\00:08:49.57 when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel 00:08:49.60\00:08:53.11 when they came out of the land of Egypt." 00:08:53.14\00:08:56.28 So in the temple built by Solomon, what was the 00:08:56.68\00:08:59.42 only thing that was found inside the ark of the covenant? 00:08:59.45\00:09:02.28 Only, it says here, the what? 00:09:02.94\00:09:06.09 The tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb. 00:09:06.12\00:09:10.98 So immediately the question comes, what happened to 00:09:11.01\00:09:14.36 the pot of manna and what happened to Aaron's rod 00:09:14.39\00:09:17.62 in between the time of the wilderness tabernacle 00:09:17.82\00:09:20.95 and the time of the temple that was built by Solomon? 00:09:20.98\00:09:24.88 Is it just perhaps the case that maybe one of them is wrong? 00:09:25.14\00:09:28.71 Maybe it's simply the book of Hebrews is wrong 00:09:28.74\00:09:30.75 when it says that the manna and Aaron's rod was in the 00:09:30.78\00:09:34.35 ark of the covenant? 00:09:34.68\00:09:35.71 And then later, you know, in 1 Kings it says that it wasn't 00:09:35.74\00:09:38.91 in the ark of the covenant. 00:09:38.94\00:09:40.33 That there's this discrepancy or contradiction in the Bible? 00:09:40.53\00:09:43.72 No. 00:09:43.75\00:09:44.81 We don't accept the idea that there are 00:09:44.84\00:09:46.55 contradictions in the Bible. 00:09:46.58\00:09:48.14 And so the question is, how do you reconcile 00:09:48.55\00:09:50.87 what was in the ark in the tabernacle in the wilderness 00:09:50.97\00:09:54.13 and what was in the ark of the temple that Solomon built? 00:09:54.16\00:09:58.93 I want to present a quotation from Ellen White. 00:10:00.08\00:10:02.34 Because she resolves this apparent problem. 00:10:02.77\00:10:05.56 Notice Early Writings, page 32. 00:10:06.39\00:10:08.69 This is very, very interesting. 00:10:08.72\00:10:10.03 And there's Bible backing for what she says. 00:10:10.06\00:10:12.63 I'm going to provide that in a few moments. 00:10:12.89\00:10:15.01 God took her in vision to the heavenly temple 00:10:15.82\00:10:19.11 in the holy city, the New Jerusalem. 00:10:20.02\00:10:22.02 And notice what she says. 00:10:22.05\00:10:23.47 "In the holiest I saw an ark; 00:10:24.07\00:10:27.88 on the top and sides of it was purest gold. 00:10:28.96\00:10:32.71 On each end of the ark was a lovely cherub, 00:10:33.11\00:10:36.44 with its wings spread out over it. 00:10:36.81\00:10:39.80 Their faces were turned toward each other, 00:10:40.35\00:10:43.10 and they looked downward. 00:10:43.47\00:10:45.60 Between the angels was a golden censer. 00:10:46.19\00:10:49.68 Above the ark, where the angels stood, was an exceeding 00:10:50.38\00:10:55.20 bright glory that appeared like a throne where God dwelt." 00:10:55.23\00:10:59.10 That's the Shekinah, by the way. 00:10:59.13\00:11:00.60 Then she says, "Jesus stood by the ark, and as the 00:11:01.38\00:11:06.05 saints' prayers came up to Him, the incense in the censer 00:11:06.08\00:11:11.11 would smoke, and He would offer up their prayers with the 00:11:11.14\00:11:15.15 smoke of the incense to His Father." 00:11:15.18\00:11:17.84 And then here comes the portion of the quotation 00:11:18.18\00:11:20.44 which is very interesting. 00:11:20.47\00:11:21.76 She says, "In the ark was the golden pot of manna, 00:11:21.79\00:11:26.37 Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of stone 00:11:27.89\00:11:33.80 which folded together like a book." 00:11:33.83\00:11:36.06 What happened with the pot of manna 00:11:36.78\00:11:39.22 and Aaron's rod that budded? 00:11:39.25\00:11:41.16 It was what? 00:11:41.57\00:11:42.77 It was transported to the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:11:43.04\00:11:45.78 Because you can only have one Aaron's rod that budded. 00:11:45.81\00:11:48.46 Because if you have in heaven one that is not Aaron's rod 00:11:50.28\00:11:53.36 that budded, then it's not going to be Aaron's rod. 00:11:53.39\00:11:55.65 Right? 00:11:55.68\00:11:56.71 It was Aaron's rod that budded. 00:11:56.74\00:11:58.58 Interestingly enough, the book of Revelation 00:11:58.92\00:12:01.59 strongly hints that the manna is in heaven, 00:12:01.62\00:12:05.75 because in Revelation 2 verse 17, we're told 00:12:05.78\00:12:09.31 that when Jesus comes He will take us to heaven 00:12:09.51\00:12:12.71 and He will feed us with the hidden manna. 00:12:12.74\00:12:16.34 And where is the manna hidden? 00:12:16.64\00:12:18.57 It is hidden in the ark of the covenant. 00:12:18.77\00:12:22.23 So the pot of manna is in heaven, 00:12:23.15\00:12:26.05 and Aaron's rod that budded is in heaven now. 00:12:26.08\00:12:28.54 Somewhere in between the tabernacle in the wilderness 00:12:28.82\00:12:32.21 and the temple built by Solomon, these things were placed 00:12:32.24\00:12:36.63 in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:12:36.83\00:12:38.60 But now we need to ask the question, 00:12:39.11\00:12:41.16 what lesson did God want to teach through the manna? 00:12:41.56\00:12:45.40 What vitally important lesson would make it so significant 00:12:46.03\00:12:50.24 that the manna would be placed inside the ark of the covenant 00:12:50.44\00:12:54.71 with the Ten Commandments? 00:12:54.74\00:12:56.95 Let's examine this by going to the gospel of John chapter 5 00:12:57.30\00:13:03.19 and verse 39, and we'll read verse 40, 00:13:03.51\00:13:06.55 and then we'll jump down to verses 45 through 46. 00:13:06.58\00:13:11.59 John 5:39-40 and 45-46. 00:13:11.90\00:13:16.16 Here, Jesus is speaking to a group of Jews, 00:13:16.38\00:13:18.81 and notice what He says. 00:13:18.84\00:13:20.41 Which Scriptures was He referring to? 00:13:23.23\00:13:25.26 It had to be the Old Testament Scriptures 00:13:25.96\00:13:27.75 because at this point when Jesus is on earth, 00:13:27.78\00:13:30.02 the New Testament has not been written yet. 00:13:30.05\00:13:32.18 So it's the Old Testament Scriptures. 00:13:32.21\00:13:34.17 So the question is, to whom do the writings of Moses point? 00:13:46.06\00:13:49.81 To whom do the Scriptures point? 00:13:49.84\00:13:51.74 They point to Jesus. 00:13:52.05\00:13:54.62 Now let's go to verse 40. 00:13:55.15\00:13:57.90 Jesus says... 00:13:57.93\00:13:58.96 "You go to the Scriptures because you want eternal life. 00:14:04.02\00:14:06.12 You think there's eternal life in them. 00:14:06.15\00:14:07.64 And yet, you don't want to come to Me. 00:14:07.67\00:14:09.43 Those Scriptures point to Me, 00:14:09.63\00:14:11.18 that you might have eternal life." 00:14:11.21\00:14:12.95 Then notice verse 45. 00:14:13.25\00:14:15.13 "Do not think that I shall accuse you..." 00:14:15.53\00:14:18.12 And now comes the key portion of the verse. 00:14:24.90\00:14:27.32 About whom did Moses write? 00:14:36.04\00:14:38.39 He wrote about Jesus. 00:14:38.87\00:14:40.78 To whom do the Scriptures give testimony? 00:14:41.08\00:14:43.72 They give testimony to Jesus. 00:14:43.75\00:14:45.89 In other words, the writings of Moses are centered 00:14:46.16\00:14:49.08 in Jesus Christ. 00:14:49.11\00:14:50.79 Now we want to study one particular verse. 00:14:51.23\00:14:53.73 And we're going to study other verses in relationship to it, 00:14:53.76\00:14:57.26 but there's one particular verse that I want us 00:14:57.29\00:14:59.20 to take a look at. 00:14:59.23\00:15:00.28 Deuteronomy chapter 8 and verse 3. 00:15:00.71\00:15:02.99 One verse from the writings of Moses. 00:15:03.02\00:15:05.29 Deuteronomy chapter 8 and verse 3. 00:15:05.32\00:15:08.65 Here, God is speaking about when He gave the manna 00:15:09.74\00:15:12.71 and the reason why He gave the manna. 00:15:12.74\00:15:15.25 Remember, the manna lesson is significant. 00:15:15.66\00:15:18.19 It's a test for Israel to see whether they were going to 00:15:18.22\00:15:20.52 keep God's Sabbath or not. 00:15:20.55\00:15:22.83 And it was so important that God placed a pot of manna 00:15:23.03\00:15:25.87 in the ark of the covenant. 00:15:25.90\00:15:27.26 And it's in heaven right now. 00:15:27.29\00:15:28.99 It must be tremendously significant. 00:15:29.02\00:15:31.44 Now notice Deuteronomy 8 and verse 3. 00:15:31.47\00:15:33.82 Moses is describing this episode of Israel's history. 00:15:35.80\00:15:39.25 Now why did God give the manna? 00:15:48.63\00:15:50.22 You know, most of the time I ask that question, 00:15:50.66\00:15:52.44 people say, "Well, because the people were in the desert 00:15:52.47\00:15:54.60 and they needed food to eat." 00:15:54.63\00:15:55.91 But that's not the main reason why God gave the manna. 00:15:55.94\00:15:58.36 Notice the reason that is clearly expressed here. 00:15:58.72\00:16:01.81 What did the manna represent? 00:16:24.79\00:16:26.84 The manna represented the word of God. 00:16:27.41\00:16:32.25 Because He said, "Man will not live by bread alone, 00:16:32.73\00:16:35.71 but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." 00:16:35.74\00:16:38.91 In other words, the manna represented God's word. 00:16:39.11\00:16:43.08 The Bible makes it clear that the manna was 00:16:44.09\00:16:46.22 more than physical food. 00:16:46.25\00:16:48.14 Go with me to 1 Corinthians chapter 10 00:16:48.44\00:16:50.68 and let's read verses 1 to 4 where the apostle Paul is 00:16:50.71\00:16:53.98 reminiscing about some of the experiences 00:16:54.01\00:16:56.41 of Israel's history. 00:16:56.44\00:16:58.01 1 Corinthians chapter 10 and verses 1 to 4. 00:16:58.04\00:17:01.96 The manna was not primarily physical food, 00:17:02.60\00:17:05.17 although it did provide physical nourishment. 00:17:05.20\00:17:07.34 But that's not the main reason why God gave the manna. 00:17:07.54\00:17:10.27 He gave it to show Israel that man lives by every word 00:17:10.30\00:17:13.62 that proceeds out of the mouth of God. 00:17:13.65\00:17:15.76 Now let's notice 1 Corinthians 10 verse 1. 00:17:16.00\00:17:18.51 That's the water that came from the rock. 00:17:43.06\00:17:45.05 Was the manna symbolic? 00:17:55.78\00:17:57.22 Did it have a spiritual lesson? 00:17:58.20\00:17:59.90 Yes. 00:17:59.95\00:18:00.98 Was the water that came from the rock symbolic? 00:18:01.10\00:18:03.97 Did it represent something beyond literal H2O? 00:18:04.00\00:18:08.10 Absolutely. 00:18:08.13\00:18:09.45 Was the literal rock a symbol of the much more 00:18:09.77\00:18:12.67 profound spiritual truth? 00:18:12.70\00:18:14.31 Absolutely. 00:18:14.34\00:18:15.50 So we know that the manna represents the word of God, 00:18:16.64\00:18:19.18 and it's spiritual food. 00:18:19.21\00:18:20.41 But the question is, who is the word of God? 00:18:20.44\00:18:23.85 Go with me to John chapter 1 verse 1, and then we'll 00:18:24.40\00:18:27.97 go down to verse 14. 00:18:28.00\00:18:29.86 John chapter 1 verse 1, and then we'll go down to verse 14. 00:18:29.89\00:18:34.55 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, 00:18:35.16\00:18:41.41 and the Word was God." 00:18:41.44\00:18:44.91 And then it says in verse 14, the first part of the verse, 00:18:45.44\00:18:48.26 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." 00:18:48.29\00:18:53.16 Who is the Word? 00:18:53.36\00:18:54.99 The Word is Jesus Christ. 00:18:55.71\00:18:57.48 So what did the manna represent? 00:18:57.51\00:18:59.94 The manna represented Jesus. 00:18:59.97\00:19:03.81 Let me prove it to you with a clear text 00:19:04.42\00:19:06.31 from the gospel of John. 00:19:06.34\00:19:07.88 John 6 verses 48 through 50. 00:19:08.08\00:19:11.13 John 6:48-50. 00:19:11.31\00:19:13.35 Spiritually speaking, the manna represented Jesus Christ. 00:19:13.38\00:19:16.41 Because Jesus Christ is the Word of God. 00:19:16.44\00:19:18.65 He's the speech of God the Father. 00:19:18.68\00:19:20.67 He reveals God the Father. 00:19:20.70\00:19:22.55 He teaches what God the Father told Him to say. 00:19:22.58\00:19:26.72 Notice John 6:48-50. 00:19:26.75\00:19:29.28 Here, Jesus is speaking and He says... 00:19:29.31\00:19:32.09 So what did the manna represent? 00:19:47.87\00:19:49.55 The manna represented the Word of God. 00:19:49.95\00:19:52.31 And the Word of God is whom? 00:19:52.34\00:19:54.57 The Word of God is Jesus. 00:19:54.60\00:19:57.64 But let's become a little bit more specific. 00:19:58.02\00:20:00.46 Not only did the manna represent Jesus generally, 00:20:01.25\00:20:05.77 but there was something specific about Jesus 00:20:06.21\00:20:09.76 that was represented by the manna. 00:20:09.79\00:20:11.61 Some aspect of Jesus that was represented by the manna. 00:20:11.64\00:20:15.69 Let's go to John 6 verse 51, the very next verse. 00:20:15.89\00:20:19.60 Jesus says here, "I am the living bread..." 00:20:20.21\00:20:24.09 What does the manna specifically represent about Jesus? 00:20:40.64\00:20:44.41 It represents His what? 00:20:44.88\00:20:46.98 It represents His flesh. 00:20:47.30\00:20:49.14 Did you catch that point? 00:20:49.17\00:20:50.26 So the manna represents the Word of God. 00:20:50.68\00:20:53.99 The Word of God represents Jesus. 00:20:54.55\00:20:56.71 But specifically, what does the manna represent 00:20:57.05\00:20:59.85 concerning Jesus? 00:20:59.88\00:21:01.04 It represents His what? 00:21:01.14\00:21:02.86 His flesh. 00:21:03.06\00:21:05.10 Don't forget that. 00:21:05.25\00:21:06.28 That's key for everything that we're going to study. 00:21:06.31\00:21:08.41 The manna represented His flesh. 00:21:08.44\00:21:11.56 Now let's go to Exodus 16 and verses 19 and 20. 00:21:11.77\00:21:16.25 See, we have to go back to the Old Testament 00:21:16.28\00:21:17.84 to the manna episode. 00:21:17.87\00:21:19.15 Because Jesus is speaking about the manna. 00:21:19.39\00:21:21.77 So what better place to discover what He wants to teach 00:21:21.80\00:21:24.73 than by going back to the manna episode in the Old Testament. 00:21:24.76\00:21:28.36 Notice Exodus 16 verses 19 and 20. 00:21:28.94\00:21:32.08 How many days was the manna suppose to be picked up? 00:21:33.04\00:21:36.04 It was suppose to be picked up six days. 00:21:36.80\00:21:39.45 Which was the only day in which the manna 00:21:39.48\00:21:41.65 was not to be picked up? 00:21:41.68\00:21:42.94 It was not to be picked up on the Sabbath. 00:21:43.32\00:21:45.63 Now what happened if somebody picked up manna on Wednesday 00:21:45.66\00:21:48.65 and saved it for Thursday. 00:21:48.68\00:21:50.60 Or any other day other than the Sabbath? 00:21:51.72\00:21:53.91 Let's read about it. 00:21:54.56\00:21:55.99 Exodus 16:19-20. 00:21:56.02\00:21:59.29 In other words, they didn't pay any attention to Moses. 00:22:08.02\00:22:10.20 And now two things happened with the manna. 00:22:14.50\00:22:16.44 Which represents what? 00:22:16.47\00:22:17.78 The flesh of Jesus. Don't forget that. 00:22:18.68\00:22:20.77 Two things happened with the manna. 00:22:20.80\00:22:22.38 It was picked up on, not Friday for Sabbath, 00:22:22.41\00:22:25.95 but some other day, which is not identified here. 00:22:25.98\00:22:28.32 And so it says... 00:22:28.35\00:22:29.38 Was this ordinary bread? 00:22:37.10\00:22:38.57 If you go to the grocery store and you buy a loaf of bread 00:22:40.19\00:22:42.69 and you don't open it today, you open it tomorrow, 00:22:44.83\00:22:47.09 when you open the package tomorrow it has worms, right? 00:22:47.12\00:22:49.48 And stinks. 00:22:49.68\00:22:50.83 No. 00:22:50.93\00:22:51.96 Well let's suppose that you leave it in the 00:22:52.21\00:22:53.64 package for a week. 00:22:53.67\00:22:54.92 And you don't open the package until a week from now. 00:22:55.60\00:22:59.15 When you open the package, you say, "Whew, this stinks. 00:22:59.18\00:23:02.18 And it's full of worms." 00:23:02.61\00:23:03.84 No. Absolutely not. 00:23:03.87\00:23:05.91 Let me ask you, what is it that breeds worms and stinks? 00:23:06.55\00:23:11.01 It is dead what? 00:23:12.04\00:23:14.05 Dead decomposing flesh. 00:23:14.63\00:23:17.68 Am I right? 00:23:18.51\00:23:19.59 Absolutely. 00:23:19.85\00:23:20.89 But now notice what happened when the manna was picked up 00:23:21.12\00:23:24.13 on Friday for Sabbath. 00:23:24.16\00:23:25.65 Exodus 16 and verses 23 and 24. 00:23:26.19\00:23:31.09 What does the manna represent? 00:23:31.66\00:23:33.30 The flesh of Jesus. Very well. 00:23:34.49\00:23:36.46 Exodus 16:23-24. 00:23:36.49\00:23:38.97 Notice, not the Sabbath to the Jews. 00:23:48.64\00:23:50.89 A holy Sabbath to the Lord. 00:23:50.92\00:23:52.46 That is, on Friday. 00:23:54.96\00:23:55.99 And now notice, very interesting. 00:24:06.95\00:24:08.46 It says... 00:24:08.49\00:24:09.52 You know, I did a word search of the word, "stink." 00:24:17.72\00:24:20.40 You remember the story of Lazarus? 00:24:22.08\00:24:24.19 You know, when Jesus said, "Take away the stone." 00:24:24.97\00:24:27.29 What did the people say? 00:24:27.32\00:24:28.53 "Lord, he stinketh." 00:24:28.56\00:24:31.18 To use good ole King James language. 00:24:31.58\00:24:34.54 "He stinketh, Lord." 00:24:34.57\00:24:35.97 It's a corpse that stinks. 00:24:36.00\00:24:37.88 Right? 00:24:38.25\00:24:39.29 And it's a corpse that breeds worms. 00:24:39.43\00:24:41.81 And so when the manna was picked up on Friday, 00:24:43.07\00:24:45.47 and saved for the Sabbath, it was as fresh on Sabbath 00:24:46.05\00:24:50.07 as it had been on Friday. 00:24:50.39\00:24:52.93 Now what was God trying to teach? 00:24:53.20\00:24:55.70 We need to go to the gospels to understand 00:24:56.06\00:24:59.16 the interpretation of what God was trying to teach. 00:24:59.41\00:25:02.81 Let's take a look at the last three declarations 00:25:03.14\00:25:05.95 of Jesus on the cross. 00:25:05.98\00:25:07.72 Matthew 27 verse 46 has the fifth declaration 00:25:08.17\00:25:13.05 of Jesus Christ on the cross before His death. 00:25:13.08\00:25:15.93 Matthew 27 verse 46. 00:25:16.24\00:25:18.55 And listen carefully to what it says. 00:25:18.58\00:25:20.25 It says, "And about the ninth hour..." 00:25:20.28\00:25:23.22 Was it the ninth hour yet? 00:25:23.25\00:25:24.98 No, it was about the ninth hour. 00:25:25.34\00:25:27.82 Now that's the fifth declaration on the cross. 00:25:39.04\00:25:41.08 Now let's go to number six. 00:25:41.11\00:25:42.56 John 19 and verse 30. John 19 and verse 30. 00:25:42.80\00:25:47.27 It says there... 00:25:47.57\00:25:48.77 But you know, Matthew and John don't give the whole story. 00:26:00.85\00:26:04.97 Because there was a declaration that was given before this one. 00:26:05.00\00:26:07.79 It's just not recorded in the gospel of John. 00:26:07.82\00:26:10.36 You say, "What declaration is that?" 00:26:10.58\00:26:12.28 Go with me to Luke 23 verse 46. 00:26:12.64\00:26:14.68 This was the last declaration of Jesus on the cross 00:26:14.71\00:26:17.72 after He said, "It is finished." 00:26:17.75\00:26:19.48 Notice Luke 23 and verse 46. 00:26:20.06\00:26:23.60 So when Jesus said, "My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me," 00:26:37.85\00:26:41.19 it was about the ninth hour. 00:26:41.22\00:26:43.13 Probably shortly after that, He said, "It is finished." 00:26:44.79\00:26:49.34 And then exactly at the ninth hour, He said, 00:26:50.16\00:26:53.79 "Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit." 00:26:53.82\00:26:57.11 And you say, "How do you know that it was exactly 00:26:57.23\00:26:59.18 at the ninth hour?" 00:26:59.21\00:27:00.29 Do you know what time the ninth hour is? 00:27:00.49\00:27:02.33 It's three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:27:03.28\00:27:05.07 So you say, "No. Well you know, the ninth hour? 00:27:05.78\00:27:08.20 That's three o'clock. How can it be three o'clock?" 00:27:08.23\00:27:10.24 Well, because the Jews, they reckon hour number one at 00:27:10.44\00:27:14.62 six o'clock in the morning. 00:27:14.65\00:27:15.99 And hour number twelve was at sunset. 00:27:16.23\00:27:18.50 And so hour number nine was at three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:27:18.77\00:27:22.28 I want you to notice Exodus chapter 12 and verse 6. 00:27:22.93\00:27:25.80 I'm going to show you when Jesus died exactly and specifically. 00:27:25.83\00:27:29.09 Exodus 12 and verse 6. 00:27:29.12\00:27:31.55 It's speaking about the death of the Passover lamb. 00:27:31.99\00:27:34.65 You remember we talked about the death of the Passover lamb? 00:27:34.68\00:27:36.97 When was it suppose to be sacrificed? 00:27:37.36\00:27:39.18 On the 14th day of Nisan. Right? 00:27:39.21\00:27:41.69 The month of Nisan, the first month of the religious year 00:27:41.72\00:27:44.79 of the Jews. 00:27:44.82\00:27:45.88 And at what time was it sacrificed? 00:27:46.19\00:27:48.91 It was sacrificed... 00:27:49.17\00:27:50.69 Notice Exodus chapter 12 and verse 6, it gives us the hour. 00:27:50.72\00:27:54.43 That's the month of Nisan. 00:27:59.14\00:28:00.59 When? At twilight. 00:28:06.18\00:28:09.01 Now that's not a good translation. 00:28:10.39\00:28:12.23 Other versions say, "at evening." 00:28:13.08\00:28:15.86 But literally in the Hebrew language, in which this verse 00:28:16.62\00:28:20.25 was written, it says, "between the two evenings." 00:28:20.28\00:28:24.55 In other words, it doesn't say twilight 00:28:26.98\00:28:28.76 and it doesn't say evening. 00:28:28.79\00:28:29.92 It says literally, "between the two evenings." 00:28:29.95\00:28:33.58 And you say, "What is this, 'between the 00:28:33.61\00:28:35.28 two evenings,' thing?" 00:28:35.31\00:28:36.61 Well let me explain it. 00:28:37.16\00:28:38.35 Among the Jews, the first evening was when the sun 00:28:39.17\00:28:44.11 reached its zenith and began its descent in the afternoon hours. 00:28:44.14\00:28:49.39 The second evening is actually when the sun set. 00:28:50.55\00:28:54.50 Are you understanding me? 00:28:55.39\00:28:56.57 I'm going to read you a statement from a commentary. 00:28:57.08\00:28:58.77 I looked at several commentaries. 00:28:58.80\00:29:00.00 They all agree on this. 00:29:00.03\00:29:01.59 So when the sun reached it's zenith at noon, 00:29:01.93\00:29:05.30 that was the first evening because the sun 00:29:05.65\00:29:08.47 now was beginning the afternoon hours. 00:29:08.50\00:29:10.70 It was beginning its descent. 00:29:10.73\00:29:12.20 The second evening was when the sun set. 00:29:12.47\00:29:15.00 Incidentally, in Spanish we say, 00:29:15.47\00:29:19.23 "Las orlas de la maņana. 00:29:20.90\00:29:22.59 E las orlas de la tarde." 00:29:23.26\00:29:25.46 The afternoon. 00:29:26.19\00:29:27.47 And so we need to understand that the two evenings 00:29:28.62\00:29:32.72 are noon and six o'clock. 00:29:32.75\00:29:35.72 Let me read to you from the commentary by 00:29:35.75\00:29:37.57 Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown... 00:29:37.60\00:29:39.31 This is not a Seventh-day Adventist commentary. 00:29:39.34\00:29:41.23 ...on Exodus 12 verse 6. 00:29:41.26\00:29:43.86 "'Between the two evenings' is a phrase denoting the 00:29:43.89\00:29:48.74 part of the day between the declining and the setting sun, 00:29:48.77\00:29:54.11 or between noon and sunset." 00:29:54.57\00:29:58.95 So what time did Jesus die? 00:30:00.19\00:30:01.77 He died at the ninth hour. 00:30:02.69\00:30:04.72 Which is exactly between when? 00:30:05.05\00:30:08.32 The sixth hour, which would be noon, 00:30:08.35\00:30:11.55 and the twelfth hour, which would be sunset. 00:30:11.75\00:30:14.72 Jesus died at the ninth hour exactly at 00:30:14.95\00:30:18.60 three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:30:18.63\00:30:20.27 Are you following me or not? 00:30:20.30\00:30:21.69 Very, very important. 00:30:22.04\00:30:23.17 In other words, Jesus said, "Into Your hands 00:30:24.68\00:30:27.20 I commend My spirit." 00:30:27.23\00:30:28.83 And it was exactly at three o'clock. 00:30:28.86\00:30:30.66 And at that moment, the temple veil rent in two. 00:30:30.69\00:30:34.43 There was an earthquake. 00:30:34.46\00:30:35.62 And the lamb escaped from the hands of the priest. 00:30:35.92\00:30:39.09 Now let me ask you, when Jesus said, "It is finished," 00:30:40.70\00:30:43.07 "Into Your hands I commend My spirit," 00:30:43.10\00:30:44.72 had He made perfect provision for salvation? 00:30:45.06\00:30:48.08 Did He have a perfect life to offer to everyone who comes 00:30:48.55\00:30:51.65 to Him in repentance to take the place of your sinful life? 00:30:51.68\00:30:54.22 Absolutely. 00:30:54.25\00:30:55.28 Had He died the death that everyone should die, 00:30:55.64\00:30:58.60 that if I come to Him in faith and in repentance, 00:30:58.63\00:31:01.01 and I confess my sins, He'll take His death 00:31:01.04\00:31:03.99 and place it to my account as if it was my death? 00:31:04.02\00:31:06.37 Absolutely. 00:31:06.40\00:31:07.43 Jesus, when He said, "It is finished," 00:31:07.46\00:31:09.48 "Into Your hands I commend My spirit," 00:31:09.51\00:31:11.44 He had made perfect provision for salvation. 00:31:11.47\00:31:14.78 Now Jesus died at three o'clock in the afternoon, 00:31:15.53\00:31:17.60 but listen up. 00:31:17.63\00:31:18.66 After the death of the lamb, the lamb had to be prepared. 00:31:19.18\00:31:22.81 Because after sunset, the Jews partook of 00:31:23.72\00:31:28.52 the Feast of Unleavened Bread. 00:31:28.55\00:31:31.57 So for three hours in the afternoon, from three o'clock 00:31:33.15\00:31:36.24 until sunset, what they did was they roasted the lamb whole. 00:31:36.27\00:31:41.88 They cleaned it up and they prepared it and they roasted it. 00:31:41.91\00:31:44.89 And then after sundown, they ate the lamb 00:31:44.92\00:31:48.02 along with unleavened bread, and also with bitter herbs. 00:31:48.22\00:31:52.81 Now let me ask you, when Jesus died at three o'clock in the 00:31:53.70\00:31:56.47 afternoon, was it necessary to prepare the body of Jesus? 00:31:56.50\00:32:00.68 Just look at everything that had to happen between three 00:32:01.66\00:32:04.61 and shortly before sundown. 00:32:04.64\00:32:06.34 They had to ask Pilate for the body of Jesus; 00:32:06.85\00:32:12.02 Joseph of Arimathea. 00:32:12.05\00:32:13.82 They had to take Him down from the cross. 00:32:14.14\00:32:16.47 They had to clean His body. 00:32:16.81\00:32:18.84 They had to embalm Him and wrap Him in linen. 00:32:19.14\00:32:22.99 They had to transport Him to the place where He was 00:32:23.39\00:32:26.30 going to be buried. 00:32:26.33\00:32:27.42 They had to bury Him. 00:32:27.45\00:32:29.05 And they had to roll the stone in front of the tomb. 00:32:29.08\00:32:32.88 Would that take five minutes to do all of that? 00:32:32.91\00:32:35.34 Of course not. 00:32:35.37\00:32:36.50 Actually, this is the preparation of Jesus 00:32:36.79\00:32:39.77 to be buried. 00:32:39.80\00:32:40.89 The unleavened bread represents the body of Jesus, 00:32:40.92\00:32:44.38 because leaven represents sin. 00:32:44.58\00:32:46.69 And in Jesus there was no sin. 00:32:46.72\00:32:49.75 Now let's take a look at the sequence of days 00:32:50.72\00:32:53.14 so that we can understand a little bit better 00:32:53.17\00:32:55.09 what is happening here. 00:32:55.12\00:32:56.17 Was Jesus buried before sundown on Friday? 00:32:56.47\00:33:00.59 Yes, you remember that they felt an urgency. 00:33:01.31\00:33:03.65 They said, "We have to hurry. 00:33:03.68\00:33:06.04 We've got to get Him off of the cross. 00:33:06.07\00:33:07.60 Because He has to be buried before sundown." 00:33:07.95\00:33:11.08 And so Jesus, right before sundown, He was placed 00:33:11.11\00:33:14.25 in the tomb. 00:33:14.28\00:33:15.32 Now let's look at the Biblical sequence of days. 00:33:15.62\00:33:18.42 Go with me to Luke chapter 23 and verse 54, 00:33:18.79\00:33:22.30 and we'll read through verse 56. 00:33:22.33\00:33:24.59 Luke 23 verses 54 through 56. 00:33:24.62\00:33:28.20 I want you to see the sequence. 00:33:28.23\00:33:29.59 It's speaking about the day of His death, first of all. 00:33:30.27\00:33:32.78 "That day was the Preparation..." 00:33:33.31\00:33:35.58 Was the Sabbath there yet? 00:33:38.44\00:33:40.73 No, the Sabbath was what? 00:33:41.03\00:33:42.61 Was near when Jesus died. 00:33:42.97\00:33:45.65 Verse 55... 00:33:46.25\00:33:47.40 So His body is laid in the tomb. 00:33:56.80\00:33:58.85 What day? 00:33:58.88\00:33:59.91 Friday. 00:34:01.18\00:34:02.28 Which is which day of the week? 00:34:02.31\00:34:04.88 Day number six. 00:34:05.44\00:34:07.79 Very well. 00:34:07.82\00:34:08.85 And then notice 56... 00:34:08.88\00:34:10.64 Which commandment? 00:34:20.27\00:34:21.30 The fourth commandment of God's holy law. 00:34:22.14\00:34:24.13 They rested the Sabbath according to the commandment. 00:34:24.16\00:34:27.67 Now let me ask you this. 00:34:28.64\00:34:29.84 How do you think the rest of the women was? 00:34:30.13\00:34:33.57 Was it a joyful rest? 00:34:34.84\00:34:36.41 Was it a happy and just bubbly rest? 00:34:37.15\00:34:41.24 Absolutely not. 00:34:41.27\00:34:42.52 It was not really rest. 00:34:43.00\00:34:44.59 It was restlessness. 00:34:44.62\00:34:46.80 They were filled with grief. 00:34:48.21\00:34:49.98 And with sorrow. 00:34:50.52\00:34:51.90 That Sabbath must have been a miserable Sabbath to live. 00:34:52.57\00:34:56.32 If they had understood what the manna represented, 00:34:57.17\00:35:00.75 would it have been very, very different? 00:35:00.78\00:35:03.20 They would have said, "Our Master is resting in the tomb 00:35:03.97\00:35:08.70 from His works of redemption. 00:35:08.73\00:35:10.71 And we need to rest with Him in what He has done. 00:35:12.18\00:35:17.20 And tomorrow, He's going to resurrect." 00:35:17.97\00:35:20.88 What would that Sabbath had been like if they had believed 00:35:21.08\00:35:24.20 what Jesus said that He was going to Jerusalem, 00:35:24.23\00:35:26.56 and He was going to be killed, and He was going to 00:35:26.59\00:35:28.77 resurrect the third day? 00:35:28.80\00:35:29.83 What would that Sabbath have been like? 00:35:29.86\00:35:31.77 They would have understood that Jesus was resting in the tomb 00:35:32.06\00:35:35.12 from His works of redemption, like He rested on the 00:35:35.15\00:35:38.18 seventh day from His works of creation. 00:35:38.21\00:35:40.50 And they would have said, "Our Master has accomplished 00:35:41.04\00:35:43.81 salvation for us. 00:35:43.84\00:35:45.38 How wonderful He is." 00:35:45.41\00:35:46.79 They would have enjoyed the Sabbath of rest. 00:35:46.98\00:35:49.38 But they did not understand. 00:35:49.41\00:35:51.49 They came to understand later. 00:35:52.01\00:35:53.93 Allow me to read you a statement from Ellen White. 00:35:54.88\00:35:56.82 This is found in an article that she wrote titled, 00:35:56.85\00:36:01.43 "The Man of Sorrows" February 24, 1898. 00:36:01.46\00:36:05.16 Listen how she connects creation and redemption. 00:36:05.37\00:36:08.12 And the she quotes Scripture. 00:36:15.02\00:36:16.41 And then she comments... 00:36:30.31\00:36:31.90 What was God's plan? 00:36:48.97\00:36:50.00 That the work of Christ should be what? 00:36:50.03\00:36:51.61 Completed on a Friday. 00:36:52.29\00:36:54.07 And now listen carefully. 00:36:54.10\00:36:55.66 So what was Jesus doing while the women rested? 00:37:20.83\00:37:23.19 Jesus was also what? Resting. 00:37:24.54\00:37:26.82 On which day of the week? 00:37:26.85\00:37:28.24 The seventh day. 00:37:28.84\00:37:30.00 Which day did Jesus rest after He accomplished 00:37:30.03\00:37:32.30 His work of creation? 00:37:32.33\00:37:33.65 The seventh day. 00:37:33.80\00:37:34.83 You see, Jesus is the Creator, according to the Bible. 00:37:34.86\00:37:37.97 John 1 and verse 3 says, "All things were made through Him. 00:37:38.71\00:37:42.63 And without Him was not anything made that was made." 00:37:43.11\00:37:45.94 Jesus is the Creator in Genesis. 00:37:45.97\00:37:48.06 And after He finished His work of Creation, He rested. 00:37:48.33\00:37:51.22 And after He finished His work of redemption, He rested 00:37:51.25\00:37:54.52 on the seventh day Sabbath. 00:37:54.55\00:37:55.99 And then which day did Jesus resurrect? 00:37:56.92\00:37:59.05 The Bible says He resurrected on the first day of the week. 00:38:00.22\00:38:02.81 Which would be our Sunday. 00:38:02.84\00:38:04.71 Do you have the sequence of days clear? 00:38:04.74\00:38:06.63 He died what day? 00:38:07.69\00:38:09.15 Day number six, Friday. 00:38:09.77\00:38:11.53 He rested in the tomb which day? 00:38:11.81\00:38:13.81 On the Sabbath He rested in the tomb. 00:38:14.33\00:38:16.82 And He resurrected which day. 00:38:16.85\00:38:18.60 He resurrected on the first day of the week, on Sunday. 00:38:18.97\00:38:21.84 Now you say, "Where did we leave the manna?" 00:38:22.51\00:38:25.09 Well, let's go back to the manna episode, 00:38:26.46\00:38:28.62 because we want to see what great lesson God wanted 00:38:28.65\00:38:30.72 to teach through the manna. 00:38:30.75\00:38:31.83 Now let's review. 00:38:31.86\00:38:32.89 What did the manna represent? 00:38:33.57\00:38:35.04 The Word of God. 00:38:35.88\00:38:36.91 What is the Word of God? 00:38:37.17\00:38:39.77 Jesus. 00:38:40.17\00:38:41.27 But what specific aspect of Jesus did the manna represent? 00:38:41.37\00:38:44.81 His flesh. 00:38:45.26\00:38:46.35 Let's read it again, John 6 and verse 51. 00:38:46.38\00:38:49.58 John 6:51. 00:38:49.91\00:38:51.38 Here, Jesus says... 00:38:52.08\00:38:53.20 Now as Jesus rested in the tomb, He was the living manna, right? 00:39:10.42\00:39:14.99 The manna represented His what? 00:39:15.60\00:39:17.36 His flesh. 00:39:17.85\00:39:19.09 The flesh of Jesus rested in the tomb. 00:39:19.19\00:39:21.08 Now here's my question, what would have happened 00:39:21.11\00:39:23.03 with a normal body that was buried on Friday? 00:39:23.06\00:39:27.11 It would begin the process of what? 00:39:28.20\00:39:30.98 Of decomposing. 00:39:31.30\00:39:33.14 And eventually it would breed worms, and it would what? 00:39:33.76\00:39:37.20 And it would stink. 00:39:37.62\00:39:38.82 Did that happen with the body of Jesus? 00:39:39.74\00:39:41.83 What is it that happened with the manna when it was 00:39:42.90\00:39:45.32 picked up on Friday for Sabbath? 00:39:45.35\00:39:46.73 It was just as fresh on Sabbath as it had been on Friday. 00:39:46.76\00:39:51.03 And the manna represents the flesh of Jesus. 00:39:51.96\00:39:54.48 Was the flesh of Jesus, all day Sabbath, 00:39:54.51\00:39:57.00 as fresh as when He was placed in the tomb on Friday? 00:39:57.03\00:39:59.91 I'm going to prove it from the Bible. 00:40:00.24\00:40:01.98 God is teaching here the observance of the Sabbath 00:40:02.34\00:40:05.27 in honor of redemption. 00:40:05.30\00:40:07.12 Notice what we find in Acts chapter 2 00:40:08.06\00:40:10.77 and verses 25 through 27. 00:40:11.07\00:40:14.18 Acts chapter 2 and verse... 00:40:14.21\00:40:16.21 Actually, let's go first of all to the Messianic prophecy. 00:40:16.24\00:40:18.99 And then we'll go to Acts 2. 00:40:19.02\00:40:20.38 The prophecy that is found in Acts 2 is in 00:40:20.66\00:40:23.61 Psalm 16 verses 8 through 10. 00:40:23.64\00:40:25.72 I want to read the prophecy first. 00:40:25.75\00:40:28.01 It says here in Psalm 16 and verses 8 through 10... 00:40:28.37\00:40:32.10 And I'm reading from the NIV because it's a 00:40:42.34\00:40:43.95 better translation. 00:40:43.98\00:40:45.27 Here, Jesus is speaking prophetically a thousand years 00:40:48.88\00:40:51.43 before He's actually born. 00:40:51.46\00:40:53.21 He's telling His experience, what is going to happen. 00:40:53.41\00:40:55.67 Now notice what He says... 00:40:56.00\00:40:57.39 "Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; 00:41:02.03\00:41:04.58 my body..." 00:41:04.68\00:41:05.72 Actually, that is not a good translation. 00:41:05.75\00:41:07.84 There's a word for, "body," in Greek. 00:41:07.87\00:41:09.86 It's the word, "soma." 00:41:09.89\00:41:11.07 This is the same word, "flesh," that is used in 00:41:11.76\00:41:13.97 John 6 and verse 51. 00:41:14.00\00:41:15.57 It's the word, "sarx." 00:41:15.60\00:41:16.99 The NIV mistranslates that word. 00:41:17.21\00:41:19.25 So really it is, "Therefore my heart is glad and my 00:41:19.28\00:41:22.37 tongue rejoices; my flesh also will rest secure..." 00:41:22.40\00:41:28.17 What does Jesus say about His flesh? 00:41:28.84\00:41:30.33 His flesh will what? 00:41:30.36\00:41:31.47 His flesh will rest secure. 00:41:32.25\00:41:34.37 Where is it going to rest? 00:41:34.47\00:41:35.89 In the tomb. 00:41:36.83\00:41:38.06 You say, how do we know that? 00:41:38.17\00:41:39.20 Well, let's read the next verse. 00:41:39.23\00:41:40.57 "Because you will not abandon me to..." What? 00:41:41.64\00:41:46.70 "...to the grave, nor will you let your holy one see..." What? 00:41:47.11\00:41:52.68 "...see decay." 00:41:53.06\00:41:54.32 To whom did Psalm 16 point? 00:41:56.64\00:41:58.70 It pointed to the flesh of Jesus Christ. 00:41:59.57\00:42:02.19 Did the body of Jesus Christ decompose in the grave? 00:42:02.75\00:42:06.81 It did not. 00:42:07.58\00:42:08.63 Because Jesus was the living manna. 00:42:08.66\00:42:13.33 Are you following me? 00:42:14.09\00:42:15.12 Now let's go to Acts chapter 2 verses 29 to 33. 00:42:16.06\00:42:19.60 And once again, I'm reading in the NIV. 00:42:19.63\00:42:21.48 Here, Peter is preaching on the day of Pentecost. 00:42:22.43\00:42:24.77 And He's going to explain Psalm 16 verses 8 through 10. 00:42:25.31\00:42:29.53 Because you might say, "Well, how do you know that 00:42:29.56\00:42:32.03 Psalm 16 is talking about Jesus?" 00:42:32.06\00:42:34.07 Well Peter says so, inspired by God's Holy Spirit. 00:42:34.10\00:42:37.58 Notice Acts 2 and let's begin reading at verse 29. 00:42:37.87\00:42:42.50 And we'll go through verse 33. 00:42:42.53\00:42:44.64 Peter says here, "Brothers, I can tell you confidently 00:42:45.27\00:42:50.00 that the patriarch David died and was buried, 00:42:50.34\00:42:54.12 and his tomb is here to this day." 00:42:54.15\00:42:56.72 In other words, this psalm was not talking about David. 00:42:57.39\00:42:59.88 Because his tomb is here and he's dead. 00:42:59.91\00:43:01.57 Notice verse 30. 00:43:02.95\00:43:04.78 "But he was a prophet..." 00:43:05.04\00:43:06.64 David was a prophet. 00:43:06.74\00:43:08.31 Once again, it should be the word, "flesh." 00:43:28.68\00:43:30.38 "Exalted to the right hand of God, He has received 00:43:40.16\00:43:42.78 from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out 00:43:42.81\00:43:46.01 what you now see and hear." 00:43:46.04\00:43:48.30 Isn't this a magnificent Bible prophecy? 00:43:49.38\00:43:51.76 It was prophesying that Jesus, the manna, would die on Friday, 00:43:52.70\00:43:58.03 on Sabbath He would remain in the tomb all day, 00:43:59.06\00:44:02.24 and His body, like the manna, would not begin the process 00:44:02.95\00:44:07.02 of breeding worms and stinking. 00:44:07.05\00:44:09.40 Because He was what the manna represented. 00:44:10.02\00:44:13.82 In other words, this is not only telling us that we 00:44:15.37\00:44:17.29 keep the Sabbath. 00:44:17.32\00:44:18.45 It's telling us that Jesus kept the Sabbath 00:44:19.02\00:44:22.30 by resting in the tomb on the Sabbath. 00:44:22.33\00:44:24.64 And those who were outside also should have been resting, 00:44:24.67\00:44:27.90 understanding fully what Jesus was doing. 00:44:28.10\00:44:31.08 He should have been resting inside while they rested outside 00:44:31.11\00:44:34.59 understanding what Jesus had accomplished. 00:44:34.62\00:44:38.53 Now we need to ask the question, why did Jesus 00:44:39.79\00:44:43.32 resurrect on Sunday? 00:44:43.35\00:44:45.11 You know, Christians today, they say, "Jesus resurrected 00:44:46.66\00:44:50.00 on Sunday because He wanted Christians to know that 00:44:50.03\00:44:53.59 Sunday is holy. 00:44:53.62\00:44:55.47 And that we're suppose to go to church on Sunday. 00:44:56.25\00:45:00.06 And we're suppose to honor Jesus by celebrating 00:45:00.09\00:45:03.02 the day of the resurrection." 00:45:03.05\00:45:04.69 You know, even Pope John Paul II in his pastoral letter, 00:45:04.72\00:45:08.84 Dias Domini, he tried to impress people by the 00:45:08.87\00:45:13.86 number of things that Jesus did on Sunday. 00:45:13.89\00:45:16.14 Let me give you a list of them. 00:45:16.17\00:45:17.59 He resurrected on Sunday. 00:45:18.08\00:45:19.83 He appeared to two of His followers on the 00:45:20.10\00:45:22.24 road to Emmaus on Sunday. 00:45:22.27\00:45:24.01 He appeared to His disciples on Sunday night. 00:45:24.45\00:45:27.61 He appeared to them again the next Sunday. 00:45:28.30\00:45:30.46 The Holy Spirit was poured out on Sunday. 00:45:30.49\00:45:32.71 The first proclamation of the gospel took place on Sunday. 00:45:32.74\00:45:35.90 The first baptisms took place on Sunday. 00:45:35.93\00:45:38.20 So he gives this long list and he says, "See, it's because 00:45:38.23\00:45:41.01 God wants us now to keep Sunday." 00:45:41.04\00:45:42.82 But in the light of what we've studied, 00:45:44.15\00:45:45.99 we now notice that Jesus resurrected on Sunday, 00:45:46.39\00:45:49.89 not because Sunday is important, but because the day before 00:45:49.92\00:45:53.53 Sunday is important. 00:45:53.56\00:45:54.80 You see, Jesus had to rest in the tomb, which day? 00:45:55.61\00:45:59.18 The Sabbath. 00:45:59.21\00:46:00.24 So which day would He resurrect? 00:46:00.27\00:46:01.80 Duh. 00:46:02.79\00:46:03.82 Sorry for the expression. 00:46:04.53\00:46:05.94 But if He has to fulfill the manna episode, 00:46:06.26\00:46:08.90 and He has to rest in the tomb on the Sabbath day 00:46:08.93\00:46:11.97 according to the commandment, well which day would you 00:46:12.00\00:46:15.41 expect Him to resurrect? 00:46:15.44\00:46:16.55 On Sunday. 00:46:16.58\00:46:17.61 But it's not because Sunday is holy, 00:46:17.64\00:46:19.45 but because Sabbath is holy. 00:46:19.48\00:46:21.30 Are you with me? 00:46:23.41\00:46:24.44 And isn't it interesting that during holy week, 00:46:24.51\00:46:27.15 oh Christians, they love to talk about Palm Sunday, and 00:46:27.45\00:46:31.10 Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, 00:46:31.13\00:46:35.13 Resurrection Sunday. 00:46:35.16\00:46:36.40 Who says anything about the Sabbath? 00:46:36.43\00:46:38.25 Nothing. 00:46:38.78\00:46:39.81 Because the devil has made it his utmost objective 00:46:40.10\00:46:43.15 to obliterate the Sabbath. 00:46:43.18\00:46:45.16 Because the Sabbath points to Jesus as our Creator 00:46:45.19\00:46:48.60 and as our Redeemer. 00:46:48.63\00:46:50.46 And when we rest on the Sabbath, we're resting because He made us 00:46:50.78\00:46:54.29 and we're resting because He redeemed us from sin. 00:46:54.32\00:46:57.88 You know, Christians sometimes present objectionable arguments. 00:47:00.12\00:47:03.69 They use psychological arguments. 00:47:05.29\00:47:06.87 They say, "You know, I keep Sunday because 00:47:06.90\00:47:09.47 Sunday was a happy day. 00:47:09.50\00:47:10.93 See, the disciples were sad on Sabbath 00:47:11.35\00:47:13.14 but they were happy on Sunday." 00:47:13.17\00:47:14.92 And Christians who don't study their Bibles, 00:47:16.24\00:47:18.60 they swallow it hook, line, sinker, fisherman's pole, 00:47:18.63\00:47:22.41 fisherman and boat. 00:47:22.44\00:47:23.79 They swallow everything and they believe it 00:47:25.74\00:47:28.06 because they don't study the Bible for themselves. 00:47:28.09\00:47:30.27 Let me ask you, should Sabbath have been a sad day? 00:47:32.60\00:47:36.38 Had Jesus warned the disciples that He was going to 00:47:37.24\00:47:39.45 go to Jerusalem, He was going to die, 00:47:39.48\00:47:41.33 and He was going to resurrect on the third day? 00:47:41.36\00:47:43.15 Of course. 00:47:43.18\00:47:44.21 Was it the intention of Jesus that the Sabbath 00:47:44.27\00:47:46.75 be a joyful day of expectation? 00:47:46.78\00:47:49.22 Absolutely. 00:47:49.25\00:47:50.28 Furthermore, and this is even more devastating, 00:47:50.31\00:47:52.35 Sunday night the day of the resurrection, the disciples 00:47:52.89\00:47:57.84 didn't even believe that Jesus had resurrected. 00:47:57.87\00:47:59.93 You can see that in the gospels. 00:47:59.96\00:48:01.32 So how could they be happy all day Sunday 00:48:01.35\00:48:03.34 if they didn't even believe He had resurrected? 00:48:03.37\00:48:05.24 You see, the argument falls on its face. 00:48:06.48\00:48:08.41 But people who don't study their Bibles, 00:48:08.93\00:48:10.94 and listen to what their preachers say, 00:48:10.97\00:48:13.09 they say, "Oh, this sounds wonderful. 00:48:13.12\00:48:15.20 We're suppose to keep Sunday because Jesus said 00:48:15.23\00:48:17.14 we're suppose to keep Sunday." 00:48:17.17\00:48:18.38 But it is not so. 00:48:19.24\00:48:20.51 Now, do you know that the Sabbath not only points 00:48:22.32\00:48:24.26 backwards to Creation. 00:48:24.29\00:48:25.77 It not only points to Jesus our Redeemer now. 00:48:26.86\00:48:30.23 But the Sabbath also has a prophetic dimension. 00:48:30.26\00:48:33.82 The Sabbath will be kept in the earth made new... 00:48:34.63\00:48:38.47 ...in the future... 00:48:39.97\00:48:41.16 ...when God creates again new heavens and new earth. 00:48:41.62\00:48:46.01 Go with me to Isaiah 66 verses 22 and 23. 00:48:46.22\00:48:50.45 Isaiah 66:22-23. 00:48:50.68\00:48:54.12 Here, it makes it very clear that in the kingdom come 00:48:55.35\00:48:59.68 on the new earth, we will keep God's holy Sabbath 00:48:59.71\00:49:04.12 in commemoration of the creation of the new heavens 00:49:04.55\00:49:08.39 and the new earth. 00:49:08.59\00:49:09.62 It says here... 00:49:09.91\00:49:11.15 Now don't be confused by that "New Moon" thing. 00:49:28.33\00:49:30.68 The New Moon marked the beginning of the month. 00:49:30.71\00:49:33.87 It's the word that is translated, "month," 00:49:33.90\00:49:35.90 in the Old Testament. 00:49:35.93\00:49:36.99 So in Spanish, for example, it says, "De mes en mes." 00:49:37.02\00:49:40.20 Because the New Moon marked the beginning of the month. 00:49:41.15\00:49:43.52 And so really what it's saying is, "And it shall come to pass 00:49:43.66\00:49:47.62 that from month to month..." 00:49:47.65\00:49:49.70 "...and from one Sunday to another..." 00:49:50.55\00:49:52.75 Oh, thank you. You're still with me. 00:49:53.53\00:49:55.32 "...and from one..." What? 00:49:55.58\00:49:57.09 "...one Sabbath to another..." 00:49:57.33\00:49:59.09 "...all the Jews shall come..." 00:49:59.22\00:50:01.34 No. Do you have flesh? 00:50:02.38\00:50:04.30 You're not ghosts. 00:50:06.07\00:50:07.46 It says, "'All flesh shall come to worship before Me,' 00:50:08.40\00:50:13.43 says the Lord." 00:50:13.46\00:50:15.53 What day will be kept in honor of the creation of the 00:50:16.18\00:50:18.79 new heavens and the new earth? 00:50:18.82\00:50:19.98 God's holy Sabbath. 00:50:20.57\00:50:22.18 Now you say, "Why are we going to go from month to month? 00:50:22.21\00:50:24.94 We know from Sabbath to Sabbath, because that's 00:50:25.14\00:50:27.31 God's rest day to commemorate the new creation. 00:50:27.34\00:50:30.24 But why from month to month?" 00:50:30.84\00:50:32.82 Revelation 22 verses 1 and 2 has the answer. 00:50:34.01\00:50:36.63 Revelation 22 and verses 1 and 2. 00:50:36.66\00:50:39.94 It says here... 00:50:40.59\00:50:41.82 Here, John is speaking about what he saw in vision. 00:50:42.48\00:50:45.24 Actually, a better translation is, "the square;" 00:50:56.90\00:50:59.78 "In the middle of its street." 00:51:00.14\00:51:01.66 You know, people, when they say, "I'm going to walk 00:51:02.31\00:51:03.92 the streets of gold;" no you're not. 00:51:03.95\00:51:06.31 It doesn't say in the Bible, "streets of gold." 00:51:07.25\00:51:09.82 It says, "street." 00:51:09.85\00:51:11.27 Which in the light of what we've studied on the 70 weeks, 00:51:12.23\00:51:14.45 it's really the town square. 00:51:14.48\00:51:16.09 So anyway, it says... 00:51:16.80\00:51:18.74 Notice, one tree. 00:51:24.29\00:51:25.51 You say, "How's that? 00:51:25.88\00:51:27.21 On either side of the river, and it's one tree?" 00:51:27.41\00:51:30.22 Ellen white explains it beautifully. 00:51:30.48\00:51:32.12 She says that there's one trunk on one side 00:51:32.15\00:51:34.64 and one trunk on the other, and they meet in the middle 00:51:35.06\00:51:37.35 over the river. 00:51:37.38\00:51:38.41 So there's no contradiction. 00:51:39.58\00:51:41.01 And so it says, "...was the tree of life which bore 00:51:41.66\00:51:44.34 twelve fruits..." 00:51:44.37\00:51:45.53 Now listen carefully. 00:51:45.56\00:51:46.59 How frequently does the tree of life produce its fruit? 00:51:55.10\00:51:57.43 Every month. 00:51:58.35\00:51:59.44 Which means that we are going to go to partake of the 00:51:59.47\00:52:03.08 tree of life every, what? 00:52:03.11\00:52:04.59 Every month. 00:52:04.97\00:52:06.09 You read the messages to the churches, God says that 00:52:06.41\00:52:08.67 He's going to give us to eat from the tree of life. 00:52:08.70\00:52:11.21 So we're going to go to eat. 00:52:11.24\00:52:12.47 But it produces its fruit every month. 00:52:12.50\00:52:14.26 And so now we know why we're going to go monthly. 00:52:14.46\00:52:16.73 And we're also going to go, what? 00:52:16.93\00:52:18.85 We are also going to go weekly to commemorate 00:52:19.12\00:52:22.42 the creation of the new heavens and of the new earth. 00:52:22.74\00:52:26.04 But somebody says, "Pastor, are you sure that we're going to 00:52:26.71\00:52:29.67 go and worship before the Lord on Sabbath? 00:52:29.99\00:52:32.50 Isn't it true that there's not going to be any sun or moon? 00:52:32.88\00:52:35.15 So if there's no sun or moon, how can there be days? 00:52:35.18\00:52:39.74 How can there be months?" 00:52:40.10\00:52:41.52 Well the problem is, people don't read the Bible carefully. 00:52:41.67\00:52:44.38 Let's go to that text, Revelation 21 verse 23. 00:52:45.36\00:52:48.32 Revelation 21 and verse 23. 00:52:48.35\00:52:50.65 See, we've got to read carefully. 00:52:51.64\00:52:53.42 The Bible doesn't say that there's not going to be 00:52:53.45\00:52:55.08 any sun or moon. 00:52:55.11\00:52:56.33 Listen to what it says, "The city..." 00:52:56.98\00:53:00.40 Not the new earth. 00:53:01.89\00:53:03.33 "The city had no need of the sun or of the moon..." 00:53:03.36\00:53:09.08 Does it say that there's not going to be any sun or moon? 00:53:09.69\00:53:11.70 No, it says the city had no need of sun or moon. 00:53:12.37\00:53:17.59 "...to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. 00:53:17.62\00:53:20.65 And the Lamb is its light." 00:53:20.85\00:53:23.01 Let me give you an illustration so you can understand. 00:53:23.92\00:53:25.95 Supposing that at midday in July in Fresno, 00:53:25.98\00:53:29.08 I'm walking down the street and I have a flashlight in my hand. 00:53:29.31\00:53:32.75 The flashlight is on and I'm shining the flashlight 00:53:33.00\00:53:35.14 on the ground. 00:53:35.17\00:53:36.20 Is the light shining? 00:53:39.39\00:53:40.61 Of course it's shining. 00:53:41.49\00:53:42.52 Somebody comes up to me and says, "Are you crazy?" 00:53:42.97\00:53:45.12 "Well, what do you mean crazy? 00:53:47.21\00:53:48.33 This flashlight has light, right?" 00:53:49.26\00:53:50.89 He says, "Where? I don't see it." 00:53:50.92\00:53:52.26 Because you can't see it on the ground. 00:53:52.81\00:53:54.08 Why? 00:53:54.11\00:53:55.14 Because the glory of the sun is so bright that 00:53:55.35\00:53:57.51 it is as if the flashlight sheds no light. 00:53:57.54\00:54:00.63 In other words, the glory of God is going to be so bright 00:54:01.36\00:54:04.17 that the sun and the moon will be eclipsed. 00:54:05.28\00:54:07.85 Read Isaiah 24 verse 23 where it says that the 00:54:07.88\00:54:11.36 sun and the moon are going to be ashamed 00:54:11.39\00:54:13.31 before the glory of God. 00:54:13.76\00:54:15.44 Now allow me to mention one thing in closing. 00:54:16.34\00:54:18.60 In the Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary, 00:54:19.68\00:54:22.51 God put the ark of the covenant. 00:54:23.22\00:54:24.99 And the Sabbath commandment was highlighted 00:54:26.48\00:54:30.29 in the ark of the covenant. 00:54:30.96\00:54:31.99 You know, Ellen White had a vision where she saw 00:54:32.02\00:54:33.97 the law of God in heaven. 00:54:34.22\00:54:35.89 And she says that there was a halo of light that shown around 00:54:35.92\00:54:39.83 the Sabbath commandment. 00:54:39.86\00:54:41.15 And some Adventists say, "Well, where did she get that from? 00:54:41.63\00:54:44.02 Where is that in the Bible?" 00:54:44.05\00:54:45.26 I'll tell you where it is. 00:54:45.29\00:54:46.48 The Sabbath is highlighted. 00:54:47.21\00:54:48.89 What was inside the ark of the covenant? 00:54:49.89\00:54:51.69 The Ten Commandments. 00:54:53.08\00:54:54.11 Is the Sabbath in the Ten Commandments? 00:54:54.14\00:54:55.97 It most certainly is. 00:54:56.41\00:54:57.60 It's the fourth commandment. 00:54:57.63\00:54:58.67 But did God give something additional that He put inside 00:54:58.95\00:55:01.79 the ark of the covenant to highlight the Sabbath, 00:55:01.82\00:55:04.89 and to underline that it is a test, 00:55:05.09\00:55:07.61 and it is extremely important? 00:55:07.81\00:55:09.49 Yes. What did He place there? 00:55:09.99\00:55:11.52 The manna. 00:55:11.83\00:55:12.86 Highlights and underlines the Sabbath. 00:55:13.07\00:55:15.80 And God is saying, "If you don't get it from the 00:55:15.83\00:55:17.85 Ten Commandments, get it from the manna." 00:55:17.88\00:55:20.29 Let's read Deuteronomy 10 verses 1 and 2, 00:55:22.27\00:55:24.87 and verse 5 in closing. 00:55:25.19\00:55:27.19 It says, "At that time the Lord said to me..." 00:55:27.82\00:55:30.15 He's speaking to Moses. 00:55:31.97\00:55:33.05 "Then I turned and came down from the mountain 00:55:49.23\00:55:51.25 and put the tablets in the ark..." 00:55:51.28\00:55:52.73 Now listen to what I'm going to say. 00:55:58.22\00:55:59.63 We're going to talk in our next lecture about 00:56:01.06\00:56:03.68 what happened in 1844. 00:56:03.71\00:56:05.72 There was a great disappointment in 1844. 00:56:06.65\00:56:09.03 When Jesus entered the Most Holy Place, 00:56:09.69\00:56:11.39 people were oblivious to what Jesus really was going to do. 00:56:11.49\00:56:14.14 They didn't understand. 00:56:14.49\00:56:15.64 Just like what happened in the triumphal entry, 00:56:16.90\00:56:19.57 the people did not understand. 00:56:19.60\00:56:21.20 Later on, they studied Scripture and they understood 00:56:21.82\00:56:24.36 that the date was correct, but the event that was 00:56:24.39\00:56:27.34 going to take place on that date was incorrect. 00:56:27.37\00:56:31.06 After the great disappointment, the founders of the 00:56:32.63\00:56:35.95 Seventh-day Adventist Church went back to the Bible 00:56:35.98\00:56:39.63 and they started studying Scripture. 00:56:40.24\00:56:42.08 And they discovered that Jesus had entered the 00:56:42.40\00:56:44.48 Most Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:56:44.51\00:56:45.92 And you know, one after another they started discovering 00:56:45.95\00:56:49.22 the distinctive truths of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:56:49.25\00:56:52.21 They discovered that the law is in the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:56:52.85\00:56:55.70 Which means that the law is still binding. 00:56:55.73\00:56:57.88 And they said, "But if in heaven there's the Ten Commandments, 00:56:58.50\00:57:00.89 there's also the fourth commandment among the ten. 00:57:00.92\00:57:04.05 So the Sabbath is binding." 00:57:04.40\00:57:06.12 They looked at Aaron's rod which budded by a miracle of God. 00:57:07.02\00:57:10.37 Life from that which was dead. 00:57:10.48\00:57:12.05 They said, "Life is only in Christ, not in 00:57:12.08\00:57:14.69 some immortal soul." 00:57:14.72\00:57:16.32 They discovered the idea of the judgment. 00:57:17.18\00:57:19.00 The distinctive truths of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:57:19.04\00:57:21.84 were discovered when they entered the Most Holy Place 00:57:21.87\00:57:24.81 of the heavenly Sanctuary. 00:57:25.42\00:57:26.93
