Our beloved heavenly Father, once again we come before 00:00:30.49\00:00:35.12 Your presence to request that You will be with us 00:00:35.15\00:00:40.24 in our study today. 00:00:40.27\00:00:41.78 We're going to study something that is of extreme importance. 00:00:42.67\00:00:46.44 In fact, it's at the very core and center of the truth 00:00:47.19\00:00:53.36 that we find in holy Scripture. 00:00:53.39\00:00:55.53 And so we ask that You will open our minds and open hearts, 00:00:55.96\00:00:59.45 that Your Word will not return unto You void. 00:00:59.75\00:01:03.67 But that it will accomplish the purpose for which You sent it. 00:01:03.94\00:01:07.66 And we thank You for hearing our prayer. 00:01:08.27\00:01:10.72 For we ask it in Jesus' name, amen. 00:01:10.75\00:01:14.73 I'd just like to review briefly as we begin what we studied 00:01:16.71\00:01:21.13 in our last lecture together. 00:01:21.16\00:01:23.34 If you remember, we studied the reasons why Jesus 00:01:23.95\00:01:28.89 had to come to live with us in the camp 00:01:29.33\00:01:33.09 as a real genuine man. 00:01:33.12\00:01:37.09 In other words, Jesus adopted real humanity. 00:01:37.45\00:01:42.35 Real mortal humanity, in fact. 00:01:42.38\00:01:45.58 Now let me review the seven reasons 00:01:46.51\00:01:48.62 why Jesus became incarnate. 00:01:48.65\00:01:51.35 Number one, He became incarnate so that He could reveal to us 00:01:51.78\00:01:57.30 what God is really like. 00:01:57.40\00:01:59.82 Because Jesus is in the bosom of the Father. 00:01:59.85\00:02:02.76 No one better to reveal what God really is like. 00:02:02.79\00:02:07.66 Secondly, we noticed that Jesus came to the camp to live with us 00:02:08.07\00:02:12.44 so that He could die for our sins. 00:02:13.21\00:02:15.52 See, God cannot die. 00:02:15.55\00:02:17.57 God is immortal. 00:02:17.60\00:02:18.97 And so Jesus had to assume humanity in order for it to be 00:02:19.00\00:02:23.17 possible for Him to die. 00:02:23.20\00:02:25.35 In the third place, we notice that Jesus had to become a man 00:02:25.84\00:02:29.09 so that He could be tempted. 00:02:29.12\00:02:30.49 Because the Bible tells us that God cannot be tempted. 00:02:30.52\00:02:34.31 God cannot be deceived by the devil. 00:02:34.34\00:02:37.08 Because God is omniscient; God knows all. 00:02:37.52\00:02:40.66 He's omnipotent. 00:02:40.69\00:02:42.06 The devil cannot lead God into sin. 00:02:42.53\00:02:44.81 And so Jesus had to assume humanity so that He could be 00:02:44.84\00:02:49.40 tempted in a real way. 00:02:49.43\00:02:51.68 In the fourth place, we noticed that Jesus 00:02:52.13\00:02:54.14 had to become a man so that we could have the assurance 00:02:54.17\00:02:56.99 that He sympathizes and empathizes with us. 00:02:57.02\00:03:00.91 That Jesus truly understands us when He 00:03:00.94\00:03:04.50 represents us before God. 00:03:04.53\00:03:06.68 Then we noticed that Jesus had to become a man 00:03:07.25\00:03:10.71 so that He could serve as our Judge. 00:03:11.01\00:03:15.68 In other words, He had to be a man so that He could present us 00:03:16.54\00:03:21.88 before God as our Advocate and judge us in a fair way. 00:03:21.91\00:03:25.74 And so then in the judgment, there is no excuse for sin. 00:03:25.77\00:03:30.99 And then we noticed that Jesus came to this earth 00:03:31.45\00:03:34.77 to live a perfect life as a man so the He could 00:03:34.80\00:03:38.12 impute His righteousness to us. 00:03:38.15\00:03:40.39 That means, credit His righteousness to us. 00:03:40.42\00:03:43.37 And secondly, to impart His righteousness to us. 00:03:43.40\00:03:46.69 Which mean that He actually sheds into our hearts 00:03:46.72\00:03:50.54 His righteousness so that we live the life that Jesus lived. 00:03:50.57\00:03:55.38 And finally, we noticed that Jesus took human nature 00:03:55.59\00:03:59.12 so that He could prepare a place for us in heaven 00:03:59.15\00:04:03.38 so that He could eventually come back to receive us unto Himself. 00:04:03.41\00:04:09.04 And so we noticed seven reasons at least for the incarnation of 00:04:09.49\00:04:13.99 Jesus Christ, for Him coming to this earth to live with us 00:04:14.02\00:04:19.14 in the Sanctuary encampment. 00:04:19.17\00:04:22.09 We haven't even entered the court of the Sanctuary yet. 00:04:22.29\00:04:25.60 We have just spoken about Jesus living in the camp 00:04:25.63\00:04:30.12 where Israel lived. 00:04:30.15\00:04:31.78 And tonight, we are going to talk about Jesus entering 00:04:31.98\00:04:36.39 the Court of the Sanctuary. 00:04:36.42\00:04:40.14 I'd just like to say that the Court had two main 00:04:40.48\00:04:45.17 pieces of furniture. 00:04:45.20\00:04:47.04 And you see them illustrated here on the platform. 00:04:47.07\00:04:50.69 First of all, you have on the far end the altar of sacrifice. 00:04:50.72\00:04:55.94 That was as you entered the Court of the Sanctuary. 00:04:55.97\00:04:59.60 And then a little bit farther in, right before you go 00:04:59.90\00:05:03.64 into the Holy Place of the Sanctuary, 00:05:03.67\00:05:05.92 you have what is called the laver. 00:05:05.95\00:05:09.19 Which had water in it where the priest washed himself 00:05:09.22\00:05:13.19 before he went to minister in the Holy Place 00:05:13.22\00:05:16.87 of the Sanctuary. 00:05:16.90\00:05:18.43 Now we're going to notice that these two pieces of furniture 00:05:18.46\00:05:21.72 actually refer to two functions of Jesus Christ, 00:05:21.75\00:05:26.22 or two events of the life of Jesus Christ. 00:05:26.25\00:05:29.08 We noticed that the camp represents the life of Jesus 00:05:29.48\00:05:33.30 where He came to live in our midst. 00:05:33.33\00:05:35.29 Now the altar of sacrifice represents the 00:05:35.49\00:05:38.46 death of Jesus Christ. 00:05:38.49\00:05:40.77 And the laver, we're going to notice, represents 00:05:40.80\00:05:44.00 the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:05:44.03\00:05:47.05 And then of course, Jesus, after that, goes into the 00:05:47.15\00:05:50.73 Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:05:50.76\00:05:52.45 And the Holy Place is in heaven. 00:05:52.48\00:05:54.60 Allow me to say that there is no Sanctuary Court in heaven. 00:05:55.05\00:05:58.92 And the reason for that is that the work of the Court 00:05:59.65\00:06:02.66 was done by Jesus on the earth. 00:06:02.69\00:06:04.88 You see, He lived with us in the camp on earth. 00:06:04.91\00:06:08.34 He died on earth. 00:06:08.54\00:06:10.80 And He resurrected on earth. 00:06:10.83\00:06:12.97 So in heaven, all we have is a Holy and Most Holy Place. 00:06:13.25\00:06:17.64 The Court is the earth where Jesus carried forward His work 00:06:17.67\00:06:22.18 as one living with us, as one dying, and as one 00:06:22.21\00:06:26.76 resurrecting from the dead. 00:06:26.79\00:06:29.17 Now we need to ask the question, why did Jesus have to come 00:06:29.70\00:06:34.57 to live a perfect life and to die? 00:06:34.60\00:06:39.26 Well, let's take a closer look at this and understand 00:06:39.66\00:06:42.78 why Jesus had to come and live a perfect life 00:06:42.81\00:06:46.25 and why Jesus had to come to die. 00:06:46.28\00:06:49.13 The first thing that I want us to notice is that the law of God 00:06:49.50\00:06:53.60 demands absolute perfection. 00:06:53.63\00:06:55.91 The law of God says, "Obey Me and live." 00:06:56.22\00:07:01.08 But it also says, "Disobey Me and that is sin. 00:07:01.39\00:07:05.91 And the wages of sin..." Is What? 00:07:05.94\00:07:08.84 "The wages of sin is death." 00:07:08.87\00:07:11.18 So basically the sequence is, the law demands 00:07:11.21\00:07:14.45 absolute perfection. 00:07:14.48\00:07:15.93 If I cannot offer the law the perfection that it demands, 00:07:16.13\00:07:20.27 that is sin. 00:07:20.30\00:07:21.67 And the wages of sin, or the result of sin, is death. 00:07:21.70\00:07:26.25 Of course the question is, how many of us have sinned? 00:07:26.28\00:07:29.99 The Bible says, "All have sinned and come short 00:07:30.02\00:07:34.09 of the glory of God." 00:07:34.12\00:07:35.49 "There is none righteous, no not one." 00:07:35.52\00:07:38.83 So we are all on death row. 00:07:38.86\00:07:41.21 None of us can offer the law the perfect life 00:07:41.99\00:07:45.59 that the law demands. 00:07:45.62\00:07:47.09 And so the law says, "Because you can't offer me the perfect 00:07:47.12\00:07:50.20 life that I require so that you can live, 00:07:50.23\00:07:53.07 you must die." 00:07:53.10\00:07:56.22 And so Jesus came to this earth for several 00:07:57.00\00:08:00.52 reasons we mentioned. 00:08:00.55\00:08:01.92 But I want to emphasize and underline two, particularly. 00:08:01.95\00:08:05.89 Number one, Jesus came to this earth to live the life 00:08:05.92\00:08:11.26 that all of us should live. 00:08:11.29\00:08:14.46 Jesus came to live a life in perfect harmony with the law. 00:08:15.65\00:08:20.14 And He lived that life for everyone. 00:08:20.17\00:08:23.43 But Jesus not only came to live the life in my place, 00:08:24.05\00:08:27.83 in your place, so that I in Him can stand 00:08:27.86\00:08:31.77 before the law not guilty. 00:08:31.80\00:08:33.94 Not because I am righteous, but because He is righteous. 00:08:33.97\00:08:37.27 But Jesus also had to come to pay for our sins. 00:08:37.48\00:08:41.38 He had to come to pay for the sins that we have 00:08:41.85\00:08:44.41 already committed. 00:08:44.44\00:08:45.81 And so Jesus came to this earth first of all 00:08:45.88\00:08:49.23 to live the life that we should live. 00:08:49.26\00:08:51.93 And He came to die the death that we should die. 00:08:51.96\00:08:56.10 And He lived and He died for every single person 00:08:56.13\00:09:00.66 who has ever drawn breath on planet earth. 00:09:00.69\00:09:04.53 In other words, Jesus came to live and to die 00:09:04.93\00:09:09.08 in place of everyone. 00:09:09.11\00:09:11.02 So that if I receive Jesus Christ, He takes His life 00:09:11.05\00:09:15.62 and places it to my account. 00:09:15.65\00:09:17.42 And He takes His death and He places it to my account. 00:09:17.45\00:09:21.31 And God looks upon me as if I have never sinned. 00:09:21.34\00:09:24.94 Not because I haven't sinned, But because Jesus never sinned. 00:09:24.97\00:09:29.40 Is this point very clear? 00:09:29.43\00:09:31.43 It's the center and core of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:09:31.63\00:09:35.74 Now we want to talk this evening about the work of Jesus 00:09:36.63\00:09:41.67 in the Court. 00:09:41.70\00:09:43.07 We've already discussed His perfect life. 00:09:43.10\00:09:45.69 Now we want to talk about His death at the altar 00:09:45.72\00:09:49.07 and His resurrection at the laver, 00:09:49.10\00:09:51.91 or the washing of the water. 00:09:51.94\00:09:54.44 Now there are several prophecies of the Old Testament 00:09:54.85\00:09:58.13 that pointed to the death of Jesus Christ in the Court. 00:09:58.16\00:10:02.98 And I would like us to analyze or take a look at some of those 00:10:03.01\00:10:07.35 prophecies that we find in the Old Testament. 00:10:07.38\00:10:10.41 The first of these prophecies is found in Genesis chapter 22. 00:10:10.80\00:10:15.36 And so I invite you to go with me to Genesis chapter 22 00:10:15.97\00:10:19.64 and verse 2. 00:10:19.67\00:10:21.23 This is the story of the sacrifice, or we might say 00:10:21.26\00:10:26.29 the almost sacrifice, of Isaac. 00:10:26.32\00:10:29.21 And I want you to notice in Genesis chapter 22 and verse 2, 00:10:29.24\00:10:33.04 in this story Abraham plays the role of God the Father. 00:10:33.07\00:10:38.31 And Isaac plays the role of Jesus Christ. 00:10:39.14\00:10:42.67 This is a symbolic story. 00:10:42.70\00:10:44.52 It's an illustrative story of the relationship between 00:10:44.55\00:10:48.25 God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. 00:10:48.28\00:10:50.91 Now notice Genesis 22 and verse 2 a couple of 00:10:51.11\00:10:54.33 very interesting details. 00:10:54.36\00:10:55.83 It says here, "Then He said," this is God speaking, 00:10:56.27\00:11:00.35 "take now your son, your..." What? 00:11:00.38\00:11:04.11 "...your only son..." 00:11:04.14\00:11:06.48 By the way, that word "only" should be translated, 00:11:07.70\00:11:11.55 "your unique son." 00:11:11.58\00:11:13.78 Or, "your one of a kind son." 00:11:14.31\00:11:17.66 "Your special son." 00:11:17.69\00:11:19.92 You say, "How do we know that?" 00:11:20.35\00:11:21.72 Because Isaac was not Abraham's only son. 00:11:21.75\00:11:26.20 You see, the Hebrew word "yahed" means, unique. 00:11:26.80\00:11:30.76 It means, one of a kind. 00:11:30.96\00:11:33.56 It means, special. 00:11:33.59\00:11:35.08 Abraham also had Ishmael at this point. 00:11:35.40\00:11:38.48 And yet Isaac is called Abraham's unique 00:11:38.51\00:11:42.71 one of a kind son because he was the son of the promise. 00:11:42.74\00:11:47.10 But now notice that he's not only called the unique son 00:11:47.13\00:11:50.91 or the only son, but it says, "whom you..." What? 00:11:50.94\00:11:58.16 "...whom you love..." 00:11:58.19\00:12:01.38 Does this sound familiar? 00:12:02.07\00:12:03.44 "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased." 00:12:03.47\00:12:09.33 And so it continues saying, "Take him to the land of Moriah 00:12:09.80\00:12:14.27 and offer him there as a..." What? 00:12:14.74\00:12:17.76 See, there's the altar of sacrifice. 00:12:18.41\00:12:20.85 "...offer him there as a burnt offering..." 00:12:20.88\00:12:24.66 Notice that he wasn't only to kill him, 00:12:25.38\00:12:27.61 but he was to also what? 00:12:27.81\00:12:29.98 Burn him. 00:12:30.46\00:12:31.83 That's what happened at the altar in the sanctuary. 00:12:31.86\00:12:34.41 And it says, "...on one of the mountains of which 00:12:34.44\00:12:38.35 I shall tell you." 00:12:38.38\00:12:40.07 Now what's interesting in this story is the agony of Abraham 00:12:40.46\00:12:44.84 and his son, primarily of Abraham, lasts three days. 00:12:44.87\00:12:50.54 I want you to notice Genesis chapter 22 and verse 4. 00:12:50.73\00:12:54.90 Abraham actually offers Isaac on the third day of his journey. 00:12:55.90\00:13:02.34 It says in Genesis 22 and verse 4, 00:13:02.37\00:13:05.00 "Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes 00:13:05.03\00:13:10.58 and saw the place..." What? "...afar off. " 00:13:10.61\00:13:13.77 Let me ask you, how long did the agony of the Father 00:13:13.80\00:13:16.97 and His Son last when Jesus was on this earth? 00:13:17.00\00:13:20.77 It lasted also what? 00:13:21.32\00:13:23.31 It lasted also three days. 00:13:23.61\00:13:25.94 Another interesting detail is that in this story 00:13:26.51\00:13:30.46 Abraham places the wood on the shoulders of Isaac. 00:13:30.49\00:13:35.50 But Abraham has the knife and the fire. 00:13:35.82\00:13:39.90 Now that's very significant. Let's read. 00:13:40.93\00:13:43.04 Notice what we find there in Genesis chapter 22. 00:13:43.07\00:13:46.12 It says, "So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering 00:13:46.15\00:13:50.85 and laid it on Isaac his son." 00:13:51.15\00:13:53.64 And now Isaac his son carries the wood. 00:13:53.67\00:13:56.42 Let me ask you, who was it that carried the wood 00:13:56.45\00:13:58.88 upon which it was placed? 00:13:59.16\00:14:00.71 Jesus Christ. 00:14:00.74\00:14:02.11 But Jesus was smitten by whom? 00:14:02.14\00:14:04.48 Isaiah 53 says by His Father. 00:14:05.14\00:14:07.55 And that's why Abraham has the knife and he has the fire. 00:14:07.58\00:14:10.74 So it continues saying, "So Abraham took the wood 00:14:10.77\00:14:13.43 of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; 00:14:13.46\00:14:17.17 and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, 00:14:17.20\00:14:20.84 and the two of them went together." 00:14:20.87\00:14:23.25 And now we reach the climax of the story. 00:14:24.18\00:14:26.95 When Isaac is about to be sacrificed, 00:14:27.15\00:14:30.02 something spectacular happens. 00:14:30.74\00:14:32.71 Go with me to Genesis chapter 22 and let's read 00:14:32.74\00:14:36.61 verses 12 through 14. 00:14:36.64\00:14:39.14 This is an extremely significant passage. 00:14:39.17\00:14:41.81 It says, "And Abraham said, 'My son...'" 00:14:41.84\00:14:46.24 Because Isaac has asked the question, 00:14:46.61\00:14:48.27 "You know, we have the wood and we have the fire 00:14:48.30\00:14:50.91 and we have the knife. 00:14:50.94\00:14:52.31 But where is the sacrifice?" 00:14:52.34\00:14:55.63 It says... 00:14:56.18\00:14:57.55 Who was going to provide the lamb? 00:15:06.54\00:15:08.24 God was going to provide the lamb for Himself. 00:15:08.57\00:15:11.51 And it says... 00:15:12.17\00:15:13.54 Was this a substitutionary sacrifice? 00:15:32.41\00:15:35.28 Was it a substitute for Isaac? 00:15:35.31\00:15:37.42 Absolutely. 00:15:37.45\00:15:38.82 It says... 00:15:38.85\00:15:40.22 "And Abraham called the name of the place, 00:15:49.77\00:15:51.99 The Lord Will Provide; as it is said to this day, 00:15:52.02\00:15:56.94 'In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.'" 00:15:56.97\00:16:01.29 Now do you know that according to the Bible, 00:16:02.29\00:16:04.37 Abraham, at least in figure or in a metaphorical sense, 00:16:05.04\00:16:10.34 received Isaac from the dead on the third day. 00:16:10.37\00:16:13.94 You say, "Where does the Bible say that?" 00:16:14.14\00:16:16.20 Go with me to the book of Hebrews chapter 11 00:16:16.40\00:16:20.78 and verses 17 through 19. 00:16:20.81\00:16:23.63 Let me ask you, was Isaac as good as dead for Abraham? 00:16:23.66\00:16:27.51 He most certainly was. 00:16:28.28\00:16:29.78 But what happened on the third day? 00:16:29.81\00:16:31.62 On the third day Abraham received his son back how? 00:16:32.06\00:16:37.26 Alive. 00:16:37.37\00:16:38.75 Now notice Hebrews 11 verse 17. 00:16:38.95\00:16:41.95 "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, 00:16:41.98\00:16:47.81 and he who had received the promises offered up his..." 00:16:47.84\00:16:53.33 What? 00:16:53.36\00:16:54.73 See, that word is not correctly translated "only begotten son." 00:16:55.02\00:16:59.47 It really means, his unique or special or one of a kind son. 00:16:59.50\00:17:03.88 The word monogenés in the Greek language 00:17:03.91\00:17:07.37 doesn't mean, only begotten. 00:17:07.40\00:17:10.37 It means, the unique or special or one of a kind son. 00:17:10.40\00:17:13.98 Just like it does in Genesis 22. 00:17:14.01\00:17:16.08 And so it says, "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, 00:17:16.11\00:17:18.87 offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises 00:17:18.90\00:17:22.30 offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, 00:17:22.33\00:17:27.79 'In Isaac your seed shall be called...'" 00:17:27.82\00:17:30.66 And now notice. 00:17:30.69\00:17:32.06 "...concluding," that is, Abraham concluded, 00:17:32.09\00:17:34.82 "...that God was able to..." What? 00:17:34.85\00:17:37.93 "...to raise him up, even from the dead, 00:17:37.96\00:17:41.15 from which he also received him in a..." What? 00:17:41.35\00:17:45.11 "...in a figurative sense." 00:17:45.14\00:17:47.94 Did Abraham receive his son back alive on the third day? 00:17:48.79\00:17:51.94 He most certainly did. 00:17:52.30\00:17:53.67 And so we have this beautiful picture of a father and a son, 00:17:54.20\00:17:59.26 the unique son, whom the father loved. 00:17:59.29\00:18:03.13 And they suffered together. 00:18:04.69\00:18:06.45 And the ordeal lasts three days. 00:18:06.75\00:18:09.00 But on the third day the son is given back to the father alive. 00:18:09.31\00:18:14.90 This is a beautiful image of the relationship between 00:18:15.74\00:18:18.83 God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, 00:18:18.86\00:18:21.51 and the suffering that they went through 00:18:21.54\00:18:23.61 as Jesus gave His life for the sin of the world. 00:18:23.64\00:18:27.22 And so in Genesis chapter 22 we have this beautiful picture 00:18:27.63\00:18:30.81 that illustrates what Jesus was going to do 00:18:30.84\00:18:34.20 when He came to this earth to die for our sins. 00:18:34.23\00:18:38.14 But there are other prophecies in the Old Testament. 00:18:38.45\00:18:40.79 Exodus chapter 12 has another prophecy. 00:18:41.35\00:18:44.20 This is the prophecy about the Passover lamb, 00:18:44.48\00:18:50.02 the sacrifice of the Passover lamb. 00:18:50.05\00:18:52.58 The Bible tells us that every male in Israel 00:18:52.77\00:18:55.92 had to go to Jerusalem for the Passover. 00:18:56.12\00:18:58.96 Every male 12 years and older had to go to celebrate 00:18:58.99\00:19:02.40 the Passover and Unleavened Bread in the city of Jerusalem 00:19:02.43\00:19:07.07 every year. 00:19:07.10\00:19:08.47 Now it's interesting to notice that the Passover gives the day, 00:19:08.74\00:19:14.84 it gives the month, and it gives the hour 00:19:15.10\00:19:18.68 when the Passover lamb was suppose to be sacrificed. 00:19:18.71\00:19:22.54 Let's notice Exodus chapter 12 and verses 5 through 7. 00:19:22.57\00:19:27.26 Exodus chapter 12 and verses 5 through 7. 00:19:27.29\00:19:31.19 Speaking about the Passover lamb, it says... 00:19:31.22\00:19:34.53 If you look at the context, it's the month of Nisan, 00:19:55.61\00:19:58.56 the first month of the Hebrew religious year. 00:19:58.59\00:20:01.64 So he's suppose to sacrifice it the 14th day of the same month. 00:20:01.67\00:20:05.71 That is the month of Nisan. 00:20:05.74\00:20:07.47 But it not only gives us the day and the month. 00:20:07.50\00:20:09.69 It also gives us the hour. 00:20:10.11\00:20:12.05 Because it continues saying, "Then the whole assembly 00:20:12.08\00:20:15.87 of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight." 00:20:15.90\00:20:21.74 I'll come back to that in a minute. 00:20:21.77\00:20:23.76 It was suppose to be sacrificed at what hour? 00:20:32.68\00:20:35.37 At twilight. 00:20:35.45\00:20:36.82 You say, "What's that twilight thing?" 00:20:36.85\00:20:38.60 Literally in Hebrew, it says, "between the two evenings." 00:20:39.08\00:20:44.40 That's what it literally says, "between the two evenings." 00:20:45.11\00:20:47.48 You say, "What two evenings is this talking about? 00:20:47.51\00:20:50.52 Is there such a thing as two evenings?" 00:20:50.90\00:20:53.45 Absolutely. 00:20:53.48\00:20:54.85 You see, among the Jews, the first evening is when the sun 00:20:54.88\00:20:58.31 reaches its zenith or its climax and it begins its descent. 00:20:58.34\00:21:03.57 That's the first. 00:21:03.60\00:21:04.97 It starts the afternoon hours. 00:21:05.00\00:21:06.76 Or the evening hours, if you please. 00:21:06.79\00:21:09.37 The second evening is when the sun sets. 00:21:09.82\00:21:14.17 And so what would between the two evenings be? 00:21:14.59\00:21:17.94 It would be exactly in the middle between when the sun 00:21:18.33\00:21:21.59 begins its descent at noon and when the sun actually sets. 00:21:21.62\00:21:25.92 What time would that be? 00:21:25.95\00:21:27.91 Three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:21:29.14\00:21:30.51 Do you know what time Jesus died? 00:21:30.54\00:21:32.64 The Bible says that at the ninth hour Jesus cried out, 00:21:33.87\00:21:39.51 "'It is finished. 00:21:39.81\00:21:42.67 Into Your hands I commend My spirit.' 00:21:42.70\00:21:45.89 And He breathed His last." 00:21:46.22\00:21:48.10 Now you say, "Ninth hour? Is that three o'clock?" 00:21:48.87\00:21:51.45 Yes, because among the Hebrews the first hour was six am, 00:21:51.48\00:21:54.33 the third hour was nine am, the sixth hour was noon, 00:21:54.36\00:21:58.34 the ninth hour was three o'clock, 00:21:58.37\00:22:00.14 and the twelfth hour was when the sun set. 00:22:00.17\00:22:02.53 That why Jesus said, "Doesn't the day have twelve hours?" 00:22:02.56\00:22:05.59 Are you with me? 00:22:05.62\00:22:06.99 So the ninth hour is three o'clock. 00:22:07.02\00:22:08.71 Jesus not only died on the fourteenth day of Nisan, 00:22:09.00\00:22:13.18 but He died exactly at three o'clock in the afternoon 00:22:13.21\00:22:17.30 just like the Passover prophecy indicated. 00:22:17.33\00:22:21.55 By the way, the New Testament makes it very, very clear 00:22:21.89\00:22:25.06 that Jesus fulfilled the Passover Himself. 00:22:25.09\00:22:28.60 Notice 1 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7. 00:22:28.63\00:22:32.01 1 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7 tells us that 00:22:32.04\00:22:35.20 the Passover was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. 00:22:35.23\00:22:38.26 It says there, the apostle Paul writing... 00:22:38.59\00:22:41.36 Who is our Passover? 00:22:58.70\00:23:00.22 Jesus Christ. 00:23:00.25\00:23:01.62 Did Jesus die the very day of the Passover? 00:23:01.65\00:23:03.64 Yes. 00:23:03.67\00:23:05.04 Did He die the very month of the Passover? 00:23:05.07\00:23:07.23 Yes. 00:23:07.26\00:23:08.63 Did He die at the precise hour in which the 00:23:08.66\00:23:11.53 Passover lamb was sacrificed? 00:23:11.56\00:23:13.20 Absolutely. 00:23:13.23\00:23:14.60 You know, some people are amazed at the 00:23:14.63\00:23:16.00 prophecies of Nostradamus. 00:23:16.03\00:23:17.89 But really, if you look at the History Channel, 00:23:18.50\00:23:20.39 it's a bunch of speculation. 00:23:20.42\00:23:22.06 A bunch of words where you have to add interpretation 00:23:22.40\00:23:24.87 and you have to use your imagination. 00:23:24.90\00:23:26.67 Here you don't have to use your imagination. 00:23:26.70\00:23:29.13 It gives you exactly the day, the hour, and the month 00:23:29.68\00:23:34.41 when Jesus Christ was going to die. 00:23:34.44\00:23:36.14 And He died exactly at that time. 00:23:36.17\00:23:38.68 And this was written 1500 years before Jesus was born. 00:23:38.71\00:23:42.79 An amazing prophecy. 00:23:42.82\00:23:44.32 Now there's another prophecy that gives us the year 00:23:44.89\00:23:48.07 of the death of Jesus Christ. 00:23:48.10\00:23:49.77 You see, the Passover gave us the hour, 00:23:49.80\00:23:52.35 the day, and the month. 00:23:52.38\00:23:53.75 But there's another prophecy that gives us the year 00:23:53.78\00:23:56.01 when Jesus was going to die. 00:23:56.04\00:23:57.55 It's called the prophecy of the 70 weeks. 00:23:57.85\00:24:00.29 And we're going to have two whole lectures 00:24:00.32\00:24:02.74 on the prophecy of the seventy weeks. 00:24:02.77\00:24:04.58 One lecture isn't enough to cover this prophecy, 00:24:04.61\00:24:07.01 there's just so much material. 00:24:07.04\00:24:08.69 So we're going to dedicate two whole sessions 00:24:08.72\00:24:10.93 to speak about the prophecy of the seventy weeks. 00:24:10.96\00:24:13.05 However, I want to dedicate just a few moments 00:24:13.08\00:24:17.45 to read from Daniel chapter 9 and verses 26 and 27 00:24:17.48\00:24:24.27 where this prophecy gives us the exact year 00:24:24.67\00:24:29.69 in which Jesus was going to be sacrificed as the lamb. 00:24:29.72\00:24:33.76 It says in verse 26... 00:24:33.79\00:24:35.81 When it says "after the sixty-two weeks," 00:24:39.74\00:24:41.33 it's seven and sixty-two. 00:24:41.36\00:24:43.12 That is, after sixty-nine weeks. 00:24:43.15\00:24:45.78 Why was Messiah going to be cut off? 00:24:53.39\00:24:54.98 Was He going to be cut off for Himself? 00:24:55.01\00:24:56.79 No, He was going to be cut off for others? 00:24:56.82\00:24:59.38 And then notice verse 27. 00:24:59.41\00:25:01.48 "Then He shall confirm a covenant with 00:25:01.68\00:25:03.58 many for one week." 00:25:03.61\00:25:04.98 This is week number 70 of the 70 weeks. 00:25:05.01\00:25:08.10 It says... 00:25:08.13\00:25:09.50 And when we study this prophecy, we're going to 00:25:21.97\00:25:24.01 notice something amazing. 00:25:24.04\00:25:25.41 Jesus began His ministry in the year 27 AD. 00:25:26.14\00:25:31.02 That's when He was baptized. 00:25:31.05\00:25:32.80 Three and a half years later, in the middle of the last week, 00:25:33.53\00:25:37.13 Jesus Christ died on the cross. 00:25:37.16\00:25:39.51 And then three and a half years later, 00:25:39.90\00:25:42.30 probation closed for the Hebrew theocracy. 00:25:42.82\00:25:45.91 In other words, Jesus died exactly in the year 31 00:25:46.20\00:25:50.83 at Spring time during the Passover. 00:25:50.86\00:25:53.78 This prophecy pointed to the exact year 00:25:53.81\00:25:56.81 in which Jesus was going to die on the cross. 00:25:56.84\00:26:01.20 An amazing prophecy for sure. 00:26:01.23\00:26:03.31 And by the way, did you notice that it says here that 00:26:03.34\00:26:05.71 He would cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease? 00:26:05.74\00:26:09.23 Now I want to read you a very interesting statement 00:26:10.15\00:26:12.65 from that classic biography of Christ, The Desire Of Ages. 00:26:12.68\00:26:16.29 Do you know that this was literally fulfilled? 00:26:16.32\00:26:18.60 That Jesus made the sacrifice and the oblation 00:26:18.63\00:26:21.52 or the offering to cease? 00:26:21.55\00:26:23.44 Let me just read you a short description that is 00:26:23.65\00:26:25.73 given in Desire Of Ages about the moment when Jesus died. 00:26:25.76\00:26:29.48 Here Ellen White states... 00:26:31.74\00:26:33.76 Because there's been this gigantic earthquake 00:26:38.87\00:26:41.24 and the veil of the temple has been ripped from top to bottom. 00:26:41.27\00:26:44.55 She continues saying... 00:26:44.58\00:26:46.06 Did He cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease? 00:26:59.65\00:27:02.18 Yes He did. 00:27:02.52\00:27:03.89 There was no sacrifice that day. 00:27:03.92\00:27:05.79 So she says... 00:27:06.40\00:27:07.77 And then she sees the relationship between 00:27:13.98\00:27:17.64 type and antitype, between what we find prophesied 00:27:17.67\00:27:21.56 and the fulfillment of the prophecy when she says... 00:27:21.59\00:27:23.94 So Jesus literally, in the year 31 AD, 00:27:33.37\00:27:38.97 three o'clock in the afternoon, on the fourteenth day of Nisan, 00:27:39.58\00:27:44.56 fulfilled the prophecy concerning the Passover lamb, 00:27:44.88\00:27:48.25 which is represented once again by the altar of sacrifice. 00:27:48.57\00:27:53.96 But there were other prophecies. 00:27:53.99\00:27:55.80 We have for example the morning and evening sacrifice. 00:27:56.64\00:27:59.56 In the sanctuary,a morning and evening sacrifice 00:27:59.59\00:28:02.15 was offered and placed upon the altar of sacrifice. 00:28:02.18\00:28:06.54 Let me just read that to you. 00:28:06.57\00:28:08.09 Exodus 29 and verses 38 and 39. 00:28:08.39\00:28:13.14 It says here... 00:28:13.65\00:28:15.02 That is between the two evenings; 00:28:33.24\00:28:36.23 three o'clock in the afternoon. 00:28:36.26\00:28:37.85 In other words, the sacrifice of the lamb, morning and evening, 00:28:37.88\00:28:44.64 pointed forward to the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. 00:28:44.67\00:28:48.72 But there were other prophecies. 00:28:48.75\00:28:50.17 Notice Isaiah chapter 53 and verses 4 through 6. 00:28:50.20\00:28:55.18 Isaiah 53 and verses 4 through 6. 00:28:55.21\00:28:58.40 It's speaking here about the Messiah over 700 years 00:28:58.84\00:29:02.21 before Jesus is born. 00:29:02.24\00:29:03.81 And it says... 00:29:03.84\00:29:05.21 Listen carefully, remember that the prophecy said 00:29:15.79\00:29:18.15 that it would not be for Himself? 00:29:18.18\00:29:19.73 The prophecy of the 70 weeks? 00:29:19.76\00:29:21.32 He would be cut off but not for Himself. 00:29:21.35\00:29:23.80 Notice what it says here. 00:29:23.83\00:29:25.20 Now is this prophecy referring to Jesus Christ? 00:29:50.42\00:29:53.00 It most certainly is. 00:29:53.20\00:29:54.57 The New Testament applies it to Jesus Christ. 00:29:54.60\00:29:57.19 Go with me to Acts chapter 8 and we'll read verses 32 through 36. 00:29:57.41\00:30:02.57 This is the story of the Ethiopian eunuch 00:30:02.60\00:30:05.74 that was met by Philip. 00:30:05.77\00:30:07.25 And the eunuch is studying Isaiah 53 and he can't 00:30:07.28\00:30:10.33 make any sense out of it. 00:30:10.36\00:30:11.73 He says, "Who is this prophecy talking about?" 00:30:11.76\00:30:14.09 Let's pick up this story in verse 32. 00:30:14.12\00:30:18.13 Is he quoting Isaiah chapter 53? 00:30:41.29\00:30:43.78 Absolutely. Now notice. 00:30:43.81\00:30:45.54 Who is the center of the prophecy of Isaiah 53? 00:31:07.22\00:31:10.16 Jesus Christ. 00:31:10.19\00:31:11.74 Notice 1 Peter chapter 2 and verses 23 and 24 where 00:31:11.77\00:31:15.91 Isaiah 53 is referred to again and applied to Jesus Christ. 00:31:15.94\00:31:20.12 1 Peter chapter 2 verses 23 and 24. 00:31:20.15\00:31:23.04 Speaking about Jesus, it says... 00:31:23.07\00:31:24.95 And then comes a quotation from Isaiah 53. 00:31:49.11\00:31:51.85 Did Peter understand that the prophecy of Isaiah 53 00:31:57.08\00:32:00.01 of this Messiah being taken as a lamb to the slaughter, 00:32:00.04\00:32:04.06 did he understand that this applied to Jesus Christ? 00:32:04.09\00:32:06.68 He most certainly did. 00:32:06.71\00:32:08.08 Once again, all of this points to the altar of sacrifice. 00:32:08.22\00:32:11.99 All of these prophecies are showing that Jesus was 00:32:12.02\00:32:15.07 going to come and Jesus was going to die for our sins. 00:32:15.10\00:32:19.75 Notice another interesting prophecy that we find in 00:32:19.95\00:32:22.32 the Old Testament that was fulfilled in Jesus. 00:32:22.35\00:32:24.66 Numbers chapter 15 and verses 2 and 3. 00:32:24.69\00:32:28.25 Numbers 15 and verses 2 and 3. 00:32:28.28\00:32:32.20 Here it says... 00:32:32.94\00:32:34.31 Remember those words, a burnt offering or a sacrifice. 00:32:51.95\00:32:55.67 So in other words, the sacrifices were 00:33:10.44\00:33:12.36 what before God? 00:33:12.39\00:33:13.76 A sweet aroma. 00:33:13.79\00:33:16.00 Now let's go to Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 2 00:33:16.53\00:33:19.60 to find out who this applies to. 00:33:19.63\00:33:21.56 Ephesians chapter 5 and verse 2. 00:33:21.59\00:33:24.39 Here, the apostle Paul is going to apply this idea 00:33:24.59\00:33:26.98 that the sacrifices and offerings were a sweet aroma, 00:33:27.01\00:33:29.75 he's going to apply it to Jesus Christ. 00:33:30.15\00:33:32.02 It says there in Ephesians chapter 5 verse 2... 00:33:32.05\00:33:34.69 Remember the words? 00:33:43.78\00:33:45.15 To whom does this prophecy in numbers point to? 00:33:54.64\00:33:57.53 It points to Jesus Christ. 00:33:58.25\00:34:00.25 Let me mention just two other prophecies. 00:34:00.90\00:34:03.05 Leviticus chapter 22 and verses 20 to 22. 00:34:03.91\00:34:07.11 It's speaking about choosing a lamb for the sacrifice. 00:34:08.04\00:34:12.14 The Bible tells us that the lamb had to be unblemished. 00:34:12.55\00:34:15.20 In other words, the lamb was examined very carefully 00:34:15.23\00:34:18.23 to make sure that the lamb physically did not 00:34:18.26\00:34:20.57 have any defect. 00:34:20.60\00:34:21.97 Now you need to understand that a lamb is an animal. 00:34:22.00\00:34:24.44 All they could do was examine it physically to 00:34:24.47\00:34:26.53 see that it didn't have a defect. 00:34:26.56\00:34:27.93 But that represented the fact that Jesus had no moral defect. 00:34:27.96\00:34:31.13 You see, the type is always more imperfect than the antitype. 00:34:31.88\00:34:37.76 In other words, the shadow is never as clear as the reality 00:34:37.79\00:34:41.70 to which the shadow points. 00:34:41.73\00:34:43.32 So in the Old Testament you could only determine that 00:34:43.63\00:34:46.08 the lamb had no physical blemish or defect. 00:34:46.11\00:34:48.47 But that represented the fact that Jesus had no moral defect 00:34:48.50\00:34:51.93 in His character. 00:34:51.96\00:34:53.33 Notice what we find here in Leviticus 22 verse 20. 00:34:53.44\00:34:57.09 In other words, the lambs had to be without blemish 00:35:33.15\00:35:36.59 and without defect. 00:35:36.62\00:35:38.82 Now what about the priests? 00:35:39.28\00:35:40.65 Did the priests also have to be without defect? 00:35:40.68\00:35:43.68 Absolutely. 00:35:43.71\00:35:45.08 Go with me to Leviticus 21 and verses 17 to 21. 00:35:45.11\00:35:48.78 Leviticus 21:17-21 00:35:49.04\00:35:51.29 Once again, the priests in the Old Testament, 00:35:51.32\00:35:54.69 they could only determine that they had no physical blemish. 00:35:54.72\00:35:57.92 But that represented the fact that Jesus Christ had no 00:35:57.95\00:36:01.41 physical or moral blemish. 00:36:01.44\00:36:04.45 In other words, the shadow is not as perfect as the reality 00:36:04.48\00:36:07.81 to which the shadow points. 00:36:07.84\00:36:09.61 Now let's read Leviticus 21 verse 17. 00:36:09.64\00:36:12.18 Let me ask you, what did the lamb represent? 00:37:00.54\00:37:02.95 The lamb represented, the unblemished lamb 00:37:03.83\00:37:06.66 that was sacrificed and placed on the altar, 00:37:06.69\00:37:08.65 represented Jesus Christ. 00:37:08.68\00:37:10.48 What did the priest represent? 00:37:10.94\00:37:13.44 The priest also represented whom? 00:37:13.64\00:37:16.02 The priest also represented Jesus Christ. 00:37:16.05\00:37:18.82 You say, "Well how could the priest and the lamb 00:37:18.85\00:37:20.87 both represent Jesus Christ?" 00:37:20.90\00:37:22.28 It's very simple. 00:37:22.31\00:37:23.68 You see, the Bible says that Jesus offered Himself. 00:37:23.71\00:37:26.92 In the Old Testament system, you needed a priest 00:37:27.39\00:37:29.70 to offer the lamb. 00:37:29.73\00:37:31.10 But Jesus is the priest and the lamb, 00:37:31.13\00:37:32.89 because Jesus offers Himself. 00:37:32.92\00:37:34.76 And He's undefiled. 00:37:35.97\00:37:37.54 Notice Hebrews chapter 7 verses 26 and 27 on this point. 00:37:37.83\00:37:42.28 Hebrews chapter 7 verses 26 and 27. 00:37:42.48\00:37:46.14 It says here... 00:37:46.54\00:37:47.91 What kind of priest was Jesus Christ? 00:38:19.57\00:38:22.29 He was an unblemished what? Priest. 00:38:22.32\00:38:25.59 And He officiated His own sacrifice. 00:38:25.62\00:38:29.38 Was He also a perfect lamb? 00:38:30.04\00:38:32.05 Yes He was. 00:38:32.81\00:38:34.18 Go with me to 1 Peter chapter 1 verses 18 through 20. 00:38:34.21\00:38:37.30 Listen, these prophecies are much more precise than 00:38:37.33\00:38:39.85 Nostradamus could have ever given. 00:38:39.88\00:38:41.64 You know, I've been reading a book which is very interesting 00:38:42.14\00:38:45.81 on the quatrains of Nostradamus. 00:38:45.84\00:38:48.17 And you have to use a wild imagination to figure out 00:38:48.20\00:38:51.39 what he's trying to say. 00:38:51.42\00:38:52.79 But with the Bible, you don't have to do that. 00:38:52.82\00:38:54.91 The Bible is exact and precise. 00:38:54.94\00:38:57.32 It tells you when, where, and how, and who. 00:38:57.35\00:39:00.66 Notice 1 Peter chapter 1 and verses 18 through 20. 00:39:00.86\00:39:04.09 Jesus is also the perfect lamb. 00:39:04.57\00:39:06.59 Was Jesus the unblemished priest? 00:39:34.17\00:39:36.42 Yes. 00:39:36.45\00:39:37.82 Was Jesus the unblemished lamb? 00:39:37.85\00:39:39.40 Yes. 00:39:39.43\00:39:40.80 Jesus officiated His own sacrifice. 00:39:40.83\00:39:43.39 And you know what's interesting? 00:39:43.42\00:39:44.79 Not only was Jesus the perfect priest that offered Himself, 00:39:44.82\00:39:49.50 the perfect sacrifice, but when He resurrected 00:39:49.53\00:39:52.30 He took His own blood as the priest into the 00:39:52.33\00:39:54.95 Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:39:54.98\00:39:56.60 That's interesting. 00:39:57.27\00:39:58.64 All of this pointed to whom? 00:39:58.80\00:40:00.60 To Jesus. 00:40:00.63\00:40:02.00 Notice Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 15 on the 00:40:02.03\00:40:05.27 perfect nature of Jesus Christ, the fact that He had 00:40:05.30\00:40:09.70 no moral defect. 00:40:09.73\00:40:11.10 It says... 00:40:11.13\00:40:12.50 Notice 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 21. 00:40:23.51\00:40:26.10 The Bible is clear on this point. 00:40:26.13\00:40:27.64 2 Corinthians 5:21, it says... 00:40:27.67\00:40:30.06 "He" is God the Father. 00:40:30.09\00:40:31.97 "Him" is Jesus. 00:40:35.25\00:40:36.70 He who knew no sin was made sin so that we could be found what? 00:40:46.50\00:40:50.20 So that we could be found righteous. 00:40:50.23\00:40:52.38 One more text. 00:40:52.50\00:40:53.87 Notice Galatians chapter 3 and verse 13. 00:40:53.90\00:40:56.64 It says here... 00:40:57.33\00:40:58.70 These are only some of the prophecies of the Old Testament 00:41:12.50\00:41:15.58 that pointed to the work of Jesus in the Court. 00:41:15.61\00:41:18.47 Jesus coming to die for our sins after living in the camp 00:41:18.50\00:41:23.33 as the perfect Lamb. 00:41:23.36\00:41:24.73 You see, Jesus lives in the camp as the perfect lamb, 00:41:24.76\00:41:27.92 and then He goes to the altar and He dies as the perfect lamb. 00:41:27.95\00:41:31.86 And He officiates His own sacrifice. 00:41:31.89\00:41:34.68 Now I need to make one point very, very clear. 00:41:34.89\00:41:37.82 And that is that what Jesus did in the camp and in the Court 00:41:38.46\00:41:43.23 He did for every single person who has ever lived 00:41:44.03\00:41:47.18 on planet earth. 00:41:47.21\00:41:48.62 Not only for the saved. 00:41:49.74\00:41:51.95 His live and His death were for every single person 00:41:52.60\00:41:56.88 who has ever drawn breath on planet earth. 00:41:56.91\00:42:00.50 In other words, the work of Jesus in the camp 00:42:00.88\00:42:03.49 and in the Court is a corporate work that includes 00:42:03.52\00:42:06.77 the whole human race. 00:42:06.80\00:42:08.30 Let's read some verses about that. 00:42:08.33\00:42:10.13 Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 9. 00:42:10.41\00:42:12.26 And I know what you're thinking. 00:42:12.29\00:42:13.66 "So that means everybody is going to be saved. 00:42:13.69\00:42:15.06 Right, Pastor?" 00:42:15.09\00:42:16.46 No. 00:42:16.49\00:42:17.86 You see, that's why we need to understand our next 00:42:17.89\00:42:19.72 couple of lectures; the work of Jesus in the Holy Place 00:42:19.75\00:42:22.74 of the Sanctuary. 00:42:22.77\00:42:24.14 Now notice Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 9. 00:42:24.17\00:42:26.03 "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, 00:42:26.72\00:42:31.25 for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, 00:42:31.28\00:42:35.84 that He, by the grace of God, might taste death..." 00:42:35.87\00:42:41.86 for the saved. 00:42:41.89\00:42:43.26 No, it says, "might taste death" for what? 00:42:44.53\00:42:48.27 "for everyone." 00:42:48.30\00:42:50.23 For how many people did Jesus die? 00:42:50.26\00:42:51.91 For everyone. 00:42:51.94\00:42:53.60 Notice 1 Timothy chapter 2 and verses 5 and 6. 00:42:54.08\00:42:57.72 1 Timothy chapter 2 and verses 5 and 6. 00:42:57.75\00:43:01.09 The same idea comes through. 00:43:01.12\00:43:03.01 Notice 1 John chapter 2 and verse 2. 00:43:25.62\00:43:27.94 What Jesus did, He did for the whole world. 00:43:27.97\00:43:30.04 He lived for the whole world and He died for the whole world. 00:43:30.07\00:43:34.10 1 John chapter 2 and verse 2. 00:43:34.13\00:43:36.51 Here, he's writing to the followers of Jesus, 00:43:38.27\00:43:40.17 the disciples of Jesus. 00:43:40.20\00:43:41.59 Well you know the verse. 00:44:08.25\00:44:09.62 For God so loved Fresno... 00:44:09.65\00:44:11.85 Fresno too. 00:44:13.20\00:44:14.57 For God so loved what? 00:44:14.60\00:44:15.97 ...the world that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:44:16.00\00:44:19.35 Allow me to read you a spectacular statement 00:44:19.38\00:44:21.95 by Ellen White. 00:44:21.98\00:44:23.35 Desire Of Ages, page 753. 00:44:23.38\00:44:25.66 She caught this nuance. 00:44:25.69\00:44:27.06 There she says... 00:44:27.09\00:44:28.46 How much guilt? 00:44:54.70\00:44:56.07 The guilt of every descendant of Adam. 00:44:56.47\00:44:58.82 You know, some people commit suicide because 00:44:58.85\00:45:01.25 they feel guilty and depressed over their guilt. 00:45:01.28\00:45:03.88 Imagine bearing the guilt of all of humanity from all ages. 00:45:03.91\00:45:07.41 We have not suffered at all compared to Jesus. 00:45:09.44\00:45:12.16 Our sufferings are nil compared to His. 00:45:12.50\00:45:15.69 She continues saying, "The guilt of every descendant 00:45:15.89\00:45:18.41 of Adam was pressing upon His heart. 00:45:18.44\00:45:20.46 The wrath of God against sin..." 00:45:20.66\00:45:22.78 Powerful statement. 00:46:09.91\00:46:11.28 For how many did Jesus bear the guilt? 00:46:11.31\00:46:13.43 Every descendent of Adam. 00:46:13.94\00:46:16.16 Jesus lived for every person who has ever lived on planet earth 00:46:16.19\00:46:19.60 and He died for every person on planet earth. 00:46:19.63\00:46:22.31 His life and death are available for everyone. 00:46:22.34\00:46:25.06 And so some people say, "Well, that means everybody 00:46:25.73\00:46:27.79 is going to be saved, right?" 00:46:27.82\00:46:29.19 What is the most famous verse in the Bible? 00:46:31.51\00:46:33.51 John 3:16 00:46:35.84\00:46:37.21 John 3:16 includes all, but then it excludes some. 00:46:38.23\00:46:43.71 That very verse. 00:46:44.85\00:46:46.22 It says, "For God so loved the world that He gave 00:46:47.05\00:46:51.51 His only begotten Son..." 00:46:51.54\00:46:53.09 And then what does it say? 00:46:53.12\00:46:54.66 "...that whosoever believeth in Him..." 00:46:54.96\00:46:58.53 That means to have faith in Him. 00:46:59.17\00:47:01.13 "...should not perish but have everlasting life." 00:47:01.16\00:47:03.69 Did God give Jesus for the whole world? 00:47:05.53\00:47:07.67 Who will benefit from what Jesus did? 00:47:08.49\00:47:10.80 Those who believe in Him. 00:47:11.34\00:47:13.83 By the way, this text, John 3:16, if you 00:47:14.03\00:47:16.81 read the context, it's talking about the serpent that was 00:47:16.84\00:47:20.01 raised up in the wilderness. 00:47:20.04\00:47:21.44 Let's read about that in John chapter 3 and verse 14. 00:47:22.43\00:47:25.63 I want you to notice something very important. 00:47:25.83\00:47:27.65 You remember when Israel was being bitten by the snakes 00:47:27.68\00:47:30.38 and they were dying because they were poised? 00:47:31.02\00:47:33.22 Was it enough to raise up the serpent in the wilderness? 00:47:34.15\00:47:36.76 No. What did people have to do? 00:47:37.32\00:47:39.53 They had to look individually and personally. 00:47:40.18\00:47:44.66 They had to look at the serpent raised in the wilderness. 00:47:44.69\00:47:48.14 Is it enough that Jesus died? 00:47:48.55\00:47:50.21 No. We have to what? 00:47:51.15\00:47:53.08 We have to behold Him by faith. 00:47:53.38\00:47:56.19 It says there... 00:47:56.22\00:47:57.59 And then it says in verse 16... 00:48:11.41\00:48:13.16 Now listen carefully. 00:48:23.59\00:48:24.96 In our next lecture, we're going to see how Jesus 00:48:25.47\00:48:28.00 pours out the benefits of what He did while He was on earth. 00:48:28.03\00:48:31.11 We're going to talk about how you can claim what Jesus did. 00:48:33.13\00:48:36.10 How His life and His death becomes yours. 00:48:36.90\00:48:39.82 It's not automatic for everyone. 00:48:40.64\00:48:42.47 You have to claim it. 00:48:43.06\00:48:44.43 There are conditions that must be met in order for you 00:48:44.90\00:48:48.16 to benefit from His life and from His death. 00:48:48.19\00:48:50.86 Believing in Him is one of them. 00:48:51.33\00:48:54.36 Now, do you understand what the altar of sacrifice represents? 00:48:55.33\00:48:58.49 Now let's talk about the laver. 00:48:58.92\00:49:00.66 The laver represents the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:49:01.11\00:49:04.83 Reviewing... 00:49:04.86\00:49:06.23 Jesus lived a perfect life in the camp. 00:49:06.26\00:49:09.14 Jesus died as a substitute on the altar in the Court. 00:49:09.43\00:49:13.38 Jesus resurrects at the laver. 00:49:13.71\00:49:16.51 And as we'll notice tomorrow night, He enters 00:49:16.54\00:49:19.61 into the Holy Place to intercede before His Father for those 00:49:19.64\00:49:24.34 who come in faith to Him. 00:49:24.37\00:49:27.08 By the way, do you know something very interesting? 00:49:27.85\00:49:30.33 A person who touched a dead carcass was considered unclean. 00:49:30.36\00:49:36.40 Because death was unclean. 00:49:36.93\00:49:38.87 When Jesus died, He would have been considered what? 00:49:39.81\00:49:42.81 Unclean. 00:49:43.15\00:49:44.52 So what needed to happen with Jesus? 00:49:44.55\00:49:46.48 He needed to be what? 00:49:46.89\00:49:48.36 Cleansed. 00:49:49.11\00:49:50.48 And at His resurrection, He's cleansed at the laver. 00:49:50.51\00:49:54.11 Now let me read you a very interesting 00:49:54.14\00:49:55.75 verse from Scripture. 00:49:55.78\00:49:57.15 Go with me to Titus chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:49:57.38\00:50:01.53 Titus chapter 3 and verse 5. 00:50:01.56\00:50:04.38 A very important verse. 00:50:04.41\00:50:05.78 It says here... 00:50:05.81\00:50:07.18 What do you wash with? 00:50:23.91\00:50:25.42 Water, yes. 00:50:26.13\00:50:27.63 And what was in the laver? 00:50:27.66\00:50:29.49 Water. 00:50:30.05\00:50:31.42 It says, "washing of..." What? 00:50:31.45\00:50:35.45 Regeneration is an important word. 00:50:37.70\00:50:39.07 Now let me tell you what that Greek word is there. 00:50:45.17\00:50:47.44 The Greek word that is translated "regeneration" 00:50:47.77\00:50:51.75 is a compound word that is composed of two words, 00:50:52.19\00:50:55.17 two Greek words. 00:50:55.20\00:50:56.57 One is the word "palin," which means "again." 00:50:56.60\00:51:00.57 And the word "genesis," which mean what? 00:51:01.24\00:51:07.19 What does "genesis" mean? 00:51:07.22\00:51:08.59 To begin. 00:51:08.62\00:51:09.99 In other words, you put "palin" and "genesis" together 00:51:10.02\00:51:12.81 and it means, to begin what? 00:51:12.84\00:51:14.65 To begin again. 00:51:14.98\00:51:16.62 Most lexicons or dictionaries that I checked out 00:51:16.96\00:51:20.08 of the experts in the biblical languages say that this means 00:51:20.11\00:51:23.72 to regenerate, or it means rebirth. 00:51:23.92\00:51:27.82 Now let me ask you, where was Jesus regenerated? 00:51:29.41\00:51:33.34 What does regenerate mean? 00:51:35.13\00:51:37.15 It means to give what? 00:51:38.23\00:51:40.10 It means to give life what? 00:51:40.50\00:51:42.68 What does "re" mean? 00:51:42.71\00:51:44.32 Generate is to give life, but regenerate is to what? 00:51:45.17\00:51:50.00 To give it again. 00:51:50.03\00:51:51.40 Let me ask you, when was Jesus regenerated? 00:51:51.79\00:51:54.83 When is it that He began again after His death? 00:51:55.34\00:51:59.02 It was when Jesus was resurrected from the dead. 00:51:59.65\00:52:02.73 Now not only do you have here in this verse 00:52:03.43\00:52:06.66 the washing, which refers to the laver, water, 00:52:06.69\00:52:10.20 of regeneration... 00:52:10.52\00:52:11.89 The word regeneration means, beginning again or rebirth 00:52:11.92\00:52:17.00 from the grave. 00:52:17.03\00:52:18.40 But also you have renewing of the Holy Spirit. 00:52:18.43\00:52:21.62 Allow me to tell you something about that word "renewing." 00:52:21.65\00:52:24.36 That word, "renewing," is the Greek word, "kainotes." 00:52:24.81\00:52:29.26 And let's read another verse in the New Testament that 00:52:30.12\00:52:32.93 uses that word "renewing" to see what it refers to. 00:52:32.96\00:52:36.78 It's actually used in only two other verses 00:52:37.19\00:52:39.22 in the New Testament. 00:52:39.25\00:52:40.62 It's used in Romans 6 and verse 4, 00:52:40.65\00:52:42.82 and Romans 7 and verse 6. 00:52:42.85\00:52:44.45 We're only going to read Romans chapter 6 and verse 4. 00:52:44.48\00:52:47.72 Notice what this word, "renewing," refers to. 00:52:48.14\00:52:52.03 It says, "Therefore, we were... 00:52:52.35\00:52:55.15 ...buried with Him through baptism into..." What? 00:52:57.56\00:53:03.61 "...death, that just as Christ was raised..." 00:53:03.89\00:53:08.80 So what is the theme here? 00:53:08.83\00:53:10.20 It's death and what? Resurrection. 00:53:10.23\00:53:13.00 "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, 00:53:13.03\00:53:16.70 that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the 00:53:17.12\00:53:22.54 glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in..." What? 00:53:22.57\00:53:28.43 "...in newness of life." 00:53:28.77\00:53:30.18 What happens in baptism? 00:53:30.21\00:53:31.81 Do we die with Christ in baptism? 00:53:33.00\00:53:35.03 Are we buried with Christ in baptism? 00:53:35.78\00:53:38.02 Do we resurrect to newness of life in baptism? 00:53:38.76\00:53:42.13 Absolutely. 00:53:42.32\00:53:43.69 So what does this word here mean, "newness," 00:53:43.72\00:53:47.70 in Titus chapter 3 verse 5, "the renewing of the Holy Spirit?" 00:53:47.73\00:53:52.67 It's referring to what? 00:53:52.70\00:53:54.12 It's referring to the resurrection. 00:53:54.42\00:53:57.68 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:53:58.23\00:53:59.70 So after Jesus dies, because His body is a corpse 00:53:59.96\00:54:04.40 it has to be what? 00:54:04.43\00:54:05.81 It has to be cleansed. 00:54:06.24\00:54:08.47 And so it's cleansed where? 00:54:08.50\00:54:10.26 When Jesus resurrects with a glorified body. 00:54:10.29\00:54:14.11 He resurrects at the laver as the renewing of His life. 00:54:14.58\00:54:18.14 It's the regeneration of His life. 00:54:18.17\00:54:20.91 In other words, the laver represents the 00:54:21.90\00:54:23.82 resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:54:23.85\00:54:25.67 So Jesus basically lived in the camp with us. 00:54:26.20\00:54:30.94 He lived His perfect life there as a perfect priest 00:54:30.97\00:54:34.70 and a perfect lamb. 00:54:34.73\00:54:36.43 Then He came to the altar of sacrifice 00:54:36.73\00:54:40.40 and He offered Himself. 00:54:40.60\00:54:42.82 He is the officiating priest in His own sacrifice. 00:54:42.85\00:54:46.66 At the laver, He's regenerated. 00:54:47.04\00:54:49.71 Or His life is renewed, as we read in 00:54:49.74\00:54:52.61 Romans chapter 6 and verse 4. 00:54:52.64\00:54:54.36 In other words, He resurrects from the dead with His glorified 00:54:54.39\00:54:58.23 immortal and incorruptible body. 00:54:58.26\00:55:00.84 Now here's the very important question that will set the stage 00:55:01.86\00:55:05.68 for our next study together. 00:55:05.71\00:55:07.08 Where would you expect Jesus to go next? 00:55:08.79\00:55:11.56 Do you know what most Christians believe? 00:55:19.15\00:55:20.92 They say Jesus jumped from the Court to the Most Holy Place. 00:55:21.53\00:55:27.21 My question is, is there a Holy Place between the 00:55:29.93\00:55:32.87 Court and the Most Holy? 00:55:32.90\00:55:34.65 Of course. 00:55:35.48\00:55:36.85 Do you think Jesus jumped over the Holy Place 00:55:37.01\00:55:39.17 into the Most Holy Place directly? 00:55:39.20\00:55:41.05 Absolutely not. 00:55:41.08\00:55:42.45 Did Jesus have a function to fulfill in the 00:55:42.48\00:55:45.47 Holy Place of the Sanctuary? 00:55:45.50\00:55:47.12 He most certainly did. 00:55:47.15\00:55:48.52 He had a role to fulfill where the seven branch candlestick is. 00:55:48.98\00:55:52.68 He had a role to fulfill where the table of showbread is. 00:55:53.12\00:55:56.36 He had a role to fulfill where the altar of incense is. 00:55:56.56\00:56:01.27 All three of those pieces of furniture represent 00:56:01.30\00:56:04.11 something very important concerning the relationship 00:56:04.14\00:56:06.48 between Christ and His people. 00:56:06.51\00:56:08.67 So the next step that we find Jesus taking 00:56:09.21\00:56:13.94 in His Sanctuary walk is going into where? 00:56:13.97\00:56:18.25 Going into the Holy Place of the Sanctuary. 00:56:18.28\00:56:21.52 And the question is, what did He go into the Holy Place for? 00:56:21.55\00:56:24.71 You know, you ask a Christian today, "What has Jesus 00:56:29.08\00:56:32.07 been doing the last 2000 years?" 00:56:32.10\00:56:33.91 They say, "Hmmm, good question." 00:56:36.04\00:56:39.26 For most Christians, everything was finished when 00:56:42.62\00:56:44.47 Jesus died on the cross. 00:56:44.50\00:56:45.87 That's it. 00:56:46.77\00:56:48.14 That's not it. 00:56:49.26\00:56:50.63 Because Jesus lived in the camp, He died in the Court, 00:56:51.94\00:56:55.42 He resurrected at the laver, He goes into the Holy Place, 00:56:56.40\00:57:01.25 and then He goes into the Most Holy Place. 00:57:01.73\00:57:03.61 Let me ask you, is there a function of Jesus 00:57:03.64\00:57:05.52 after His work in the Court on planet earth? 00:57:05.55\00:57:08.61 Most certainly. 00:57:08.64\00:57:10.01 And we're going to study about His work in the Holy Place 00:57:10.13\00:57:12.84 tomorrow and also on Friday night. 00:57:13.28\00:57:15.72 We're going to see that in the Holy Place is where we can 00:57:15.75\00:57:18.69 claim the benefits of what Jesus did while He was on earth. 00:57:18.72\00:57:23.74 So don't miss tomorrow night. 00:57:25.44\00:57:27.10
