Shall we bow our heads for prayer. 00:00:33.93\00:00:35.75 Our loving heavenly Father, as we begin this series 00:00:38.55\00:00:43.09 on the Hebrew sanctuary that you gave as a model 00:00:44.06\00:00:48.68 of the plan of salvation, we ask, Father, that You 00:00:49.55\00:00:53.21 will enlighten minds and that You will soften our hearts 00:00:53.24\00:00:56.17 so that we might understand the great truths that we find 00:00:56.95\00:01:00.34 in the sanctuary. 00:01:00.37\00:01:01.74 And not only understand them in our minds, but also apply the 00:01:01.97\00:01:05.74 lessons in our hearts. 00:01:05.77\00:01:08.03 We ask for the presence of Your Holy Spirit, 00:01:08.73\00:01:11.26 for human minds cannot understand the great things 00:01:11.88\00:01:15.27 of God unaided. 00:01:15.30\00:01:17.66 So we plead for your presence. 00:01:18.27\00:01:20.51 And we thank You, Father, for the privilege of 00:01:20.89\00:01:22.80 approaching Your throne boldly, because we do it in the precious 00:01:22.83\00:01:26.87 name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord. 00:01:26.90\00:01:30.17 Amen. 00:01:30.48\00:01:31.85 I'd like to invite you to turn in your Bibles with me to 00:01:33.18\00:01:35.85 the book of Psalms and I'm going to Psalm 73, 00:01:35.88\00:01:40.45 and I would like to read verse 3 and then verses 12 through 14, 00:01:40.84\00:01:45.81 and then we will jump down to verse 17. 00:01:45.84\00:01:49.85 This psalm was written by Asaph. 00:01:50.24\00:01:53.29 You know, many of the psalms were written by David. 00:01:53.76\00:01:56.30 But this particular psalm was written by 00:01:56.33\00:01:58.53 an individual called Asaph. 00:01:58.56\00:02:00.68 And basically, what Asaph is struggling with is 00:02:01.05\00:02:05.66 the prosperity of the boastful and of the wicked. 00:02:05.76\00:02:10.94 And I want you to notice how he expresses this envy 00:02:11.76\00:02:15.79 at the beginning, and then how he answers his question about 00:02:15.82\00:02:19.80 why the wicked prosper. 00:02:19.83\00:02:22.84 Let's begin by reading Psalm 73 and verse 3. 00:02:23.27\00:02:28.08 "For I was envious of the boastful when I saw 00:02:28.91\00:02:33.97 the prosperity of the wicked." 00:02:34.00\00:02:37.43 Then we jump down to verse 12. 00:02:38.24\00:02:40.75 "Behold, these are the ungodly, who are always at ease; 00:02:41.22\00:02:46.79 they increase in riches." 00:02:46.82\00:02:49.81 And then he says, "Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain, 00:02:50.28\00:02:55.52 washed my hands in innocence. 00:02:55.92\00:02:59.59 For all day long I have been plagued, 00:02:59.62\00:03:03.08 and chastened every morning." 00:03:03.11\00:03:05.52 In other words, what use is it to cleanse your life, 00:03:06.26\00:03:09.92 to be righteous, because the wicked prosper 00:03:10.13\00:03:14.24 and the righteous are chastened. 00:03:14.54\00:03:16.45 But now I want you to notice the answer that he found 00:03:16.85\00:03:20.70 to his problem. 00:03:21.00\00:03:23.26 It's found in verse 17. 00:03:23.29\00:03:25.96 It says there, "Until I went into the sanctuary of God; 00:03:26.32\00:03:33.23 then I understood their end." 00:03:33.26\00:03:36.88 There was something in the sanctuary, in the Hebrew 00:03:37.75\00:03:40.80 sanctuary, that explained that it is good to cleanse your heart 00:03:40.83\00:03:46.88 from sin, and that the wicked who prosper, the boastful 00:03:46.91\00:03:53.81 who are successful in life, will eventually receive a just reward 00:03:53.84\00:04:01.85 for their deeds. 00:04:01.88\00:04:03.25 The Hebrew sanctuary has the explanations 00:04:03.28\00:04:06.81 that many times leave questions in the mind. 00:04:07.01\00:04:11.14 Now I'd like to begin by mentioning the sanctuaries 00:04:11.42\00:04:16.46 that are brought to view in Scripture. 00:04:16.49\00:04:19.37 Particularly the earthly sanctuaries. 00:04:19.59\00:04:23.20 Now the first sanctuary that was built, of course, was the 00:04:23.23\00:04:26.04 sanctuary in the wilderness in the times of Moses. 00:04:26.07\00:04:30.22 This sanctuary was built around the year 1445 BC. 00:04:30.25\00:04:36.31 And I'd like to read Exodus 25 and verse 8, 00:04:36.51\00:04:40.79 and then we'll go down to verse 40, 00:04:40.82\00:04:43.81 where this particular tabernacle or this sanctuary is spoken of. 00:04:43.84\00:04:49.24 Exodus 25 and verse 8, here God is speaking. 00:04:49.27\00:04:53.67 And He says... 00:04:53.70\00:04:55.07 And then in verse 40, God told Moses to make this sanctuary 00:05:02.45\00:05:06.56 according to the pattern that He showed him in the mountain. 00:05:06.59\00:05:10.49 It says there... 00:05:10.52\00:05:11.89 And then in Exodus 36 through 39, we find 00:05:21.13\00:05:26.35 the building of this sanctuary that God told Moses to build. 00:05:26.38\00:05:32.27 Now after the sanctuary had been built, 00:05:32.64\00:05:35.53 all of its different parts, we find in Exodus chapter 40 00:05:35.56\00:05:40.00 and verse 34 that the Shekinah Glory of God 00:05:40.03\00:05:44.91 entered the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:05:44.94\00:05:47.72 Let's read that verse, Exodus 40 and verse 34. 00:05:47.75\00:05:52.40 The sanctuary has been built, all of its parts are complete. 00:05:52.43\00:05:56.22 And now we find these words. 00:05:56.25\00:05:58.53 "Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, 00:05:58.56\00:06:02.84 and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle." 00:06:02.87\00:06:07.56 So this is the first sanctuary that is mentioned 00:06:07.93\00:06:10.82 in Holy Scripture that was built on earth; 00:06:10.85\00:06:14.81 the Hebrew sanctuary at the times of Moses. 00:06:14.84\00:06:19.12 But then God had Israel make a more permanent structure. 00:06:19.39\00:06:24.18 Because the sanctuary in the wilderness was actually a tent 00:06:24.21\00:06:27.52 that they could move around. 00:06:27.55\00:06:28.92 But when Israel entered the Promised Land, 00:06:29.08\00:06:31.67 God told David, and then Solomon, to build 00:06:31.95\00:06:35.81 a more permanent structure. 00:06:35.84\00:06:38.25 Which came to be known as Solomon's temple. 00:06:38.28\00:06:41.58 Now that's a misnomer because it wasn't Solomon's temple. 00:06:41.61\00:06:44.91 Solomon built it, but it was really the Lord's temple. 00:06:44.94\00:06:48.74 This temple was built around the year 960 BC. 00:06:48.96\00:06:54.85 And to give you a little bit of background, 00:06:54.88\00:06:56.90 if you read in 2 Chronicles chapter 6, you'll find that 00:06:57.30\00:07:05.33 Solomon offered a prayer after the building of this temple. 00:07:05.36\00:07:10.40 And then in 2 Chronicles chapter 7 verses 1 and 2, 00:07:10.43\00:07:14.23 once again the Shekinah Glory of God entered the sanctuary, 00:07:14.26\00:07:19.50 or the temple that Solomon had built. 00:07:19.53\00:07:22.04 Let's read from 2 Chronicles chapter 7 and verses 1 and 2. 00:07:22.07\00:07:27.57 And so once again, we find the building of a sanctuary. 00:07:50.48\00:07:55.72 This is a permanent temple in the year 960 BC. 00:07:55.75\00:07:59.99 Built by Solomon. 00:08:00.02\00:08:01.51 The building is actually described in 00:08:01.54\00:08:04.83 2 Chronicles chapters 3, and 4, and 5. 00:08:04.86\00:08:09.17 And then in chapter 6, we have Solomon's prayer. 00:08:09.20\00:08:12.06 And in chapter 7, we have the Shekinah Glory 00:08:12.09\00:08:15.49 entering the temple that Solomon built. 00:08:15.52\00:08:18.97 But because of the apostasy of Israel, this temple 00:08:19.39\00:08:23.38 was destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar in the year 586. 00:08:23.41\00:08:29.10 And of course, Israel was taken captive for a period of 70 years 00:08:29.38\00:08:34.22 to Babylon. 00:08:34.60\00:08:36.00 And there was a promise that after they were in Babylon for 00:08:36.03\00:08:39.36 70 years, they would be able to go back to their land, 00:08:39.39\00:08:43.09 re-establish their religion, and build the temple once again. 00:08:43.12\00:08:48.59 So after the captivity, in the year 536 they went back 00:08:49.03\00:08:53.17 to their land, and they built the temple. 00:08:53.20\00:08:56.04 And the temple was finished in the year 515 BC. 00:08:56.07\00:09:01.60 This temple is spoken of in Haggai chapter 2 00:09:01.63\00:09:05.69 and verses 6 through 9. 00:09:05.72\00:09:08.03 Now there's something very interesting about this temple 00:09:08.06\00:09:10.99 that was built after the captivity. 00:09:11.02\00:09:13.08 And that is that this temple had no Shekinah Glory go into it. 00:09:13.41\00:09:19.21 In fact, when this temple was finished, many of those 00:09:19.80\00:09:23.18 who had seen Solomon's temple actually cried 00:09:23.21\00:09:27.30 when they saw how inferior this temple was 00:09:27.33\00:09:31.05 to the temple that Solomon had built. 00:09:31.08\00:09:34.13 Let's read about this temple in Haggai chapter 2 00:09:34.33\00:09:38.47 and verses 6 through 9. 00:09:38.50\00:09:41.21 And then comes this promise. 00:10:12.64\00:10:14.35 The latter temple is the temple that is built 00:10:16.81\00:10:18.96 after the captivity. 00:10:18.99\00:10:20.46 The former is Solomon's temple. 00:10:25.10\00:10:26.95 Do you know the Jews are still trying to explain 00:10:35.23\00:10:38.48 how this prophecy was fulfilled. 00:10:38.69\00:10:40.85 Because the temple that was built after the captivity, 00:10:41.51\00:10:44.34 at least outwardly, never reached the magnitude of glory 00:10:44.83\00:10:50.12 that the temple built by Solomon had reached. 00:10:50.15\00:10:53.56 What was meant here when God gave the promise 00:10:53.98\00:10:57.53 that this post exilic temple would be filled with glory 00:10:57.56\00:11:02.44 and that the glory of this latter temple would be 00:11:02.47\00:11:04.85 greater than the former temple? 00:11:04.88\00:11:07.09 The fact is that this was fulfilled because Jesus Christ 00:11:07.45\00:11:11.88 Himself walked in the courts of this temple. 00:11:11.91\00:11:16.32 Now His glory, according to Scripture, was veiled. 00:11:16.68\00:11:20.74 But He brought peace to this place because He was 00:11:20.77\00:11:24.57 the Prince of Peace. 00:11:24.60\00:11:26.82 Now this temple was actually beautified and remodeled 00:11:27.16\00:11:32.17 and enlarged by Herod the Great. 00:11:32.20\00:11:35.27 We find a description of this in John chapter 2 and verse 20. 00:11:35.45\00:11:40.16 Actually, it took 46 years for Herod the Great to remodel 00:11:40.19\00:11:47.09 and to enlarge and to beautify this post exilic temple. 00:11:47.12\00:11:51.79 It says there in John chapter 2 and verse 20... 00:11:52.26\00:11:55.44 Of course, Jesus had said, "Destroy this temple 00:12:06.67\00:12:09.84 and in three days I will raise it up." 00:12:09.87\00:12:12.10 And they thought that He was talking about the temple 00:12:12.13\00:12:14.92 that Herod had remodeled that had taken 46 years 00:12:14.95\00:12:19.28 to remodel and to beautify. 00:12:19.31\00:12:22.76 So we find these temples in Scripture. 00:12:22.95\00:12:25.41 We find the sanctuary in the wilderness, 00:12:25.44\00:12:27.91 we find the temple built by Solomon, 00:12:27.94\00:12:30.33 we find the temple which was built after the 00:12:30.36\00:12:32.65 exile in the year 515, and then the temple that was beautified 00:12:32.68\00:12:37.71 and enlarged by Herod the Great. 00:12:37.74\00:12:40.56 Now the questions is, what did these sanctuaries represent? 00:12:41.04\00:12:45.95 What did these sanctuaries symbolize? 00:12:45.98\00:12:48.38 Did God just build these sanctuaries because He 00:12:48.62\00:12:51.41 wanted to dwell among Israel? 00:12:51.44\00:12:53.43 Or was there a particular reason why God told Israel 00:12:53.46\00:12:58.07 to build these sanctuaries? 00:12:58.10\00:13:00.88 The fact is that these earthly sanctuaries were symbolic, 00:13:00.91\00:13:05.22 or represented several things. 00:13:05.25\00:13:07.66 I want you to notice the first thing that these sanctuaries 00:13:07.95\00:13:11.10 represented or symbolized. 00:13:11.13\00:13:12.95 The earthly sanctuary actually was a symbol 00:13:13.16\00:13:17.24 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:13:17.27\00:13:18.71 It was a scale model of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:13:18.74\00:13:21.91 God wanted Israel to understand by looking at the 00:13:22.16\00:13:25.33 earthly sanctuary things about the heavenly sanctuary. 00:13:25.36\00:13:29.81 Let's go to Hebrews chapter 8 and verses 1 through 5 00:13:29.84\00:13:33.41 where we find very clearly that the earthly sanctuary 00:13:33.44\00:13:36.68 was a symbol, or was an illustration, of the 00:13:36.71\00:13:39.94 much greater heavenly sanctuary. 00:13:39.97\00:13:42.17 It says there in Hebrews chapter 8 and verse 1... 00:13:42.69\00:13:45.89 And now notice what it says about the earthly sanctuary. 00:14:27.47\00:14:30.91 What was the earthly sanctuary? 00:14:37.65\00:14:39.20 It was a what? 00:14:39.23\00:14:40.60 It was a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. 00:14:40.63\00:14:45.04 So the earthly sanctuary was only a small scale illustration 00:15:01.91\00:15:07.68 of the heavenly sanctuary to give an idea of what 00:15:07.71\00:15:11.67 God's heavenly sanctuary is like. 00:15:11.70\00:15:14.64 Also Hebrews 9 verses 11 and 12 tells us about this comparison 00:15:14.84\00:15:20.19 between the earthly sanctuary and the heavenly sanctuary. 00:15:20.22\00:15:23.83 It says there in Hebrews 9 verses 11 and 12... 00:15:24.03\00:15:26.96 And I'm reading from the King James Version, 00:15:26.99\00:15:28.85 which is more accurate. 00:15:28.88\00:15:30.40 It says, "But Christ being come an high priest 00:15:30.43\00:15:34.15 of good things to come..." 00:15:34.18\00:15:35.77 Now notice. 00:15:35.97\00:15:37.34 "...by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.76 not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 00:15:40.79\00:15:47.57 neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood 00:15:47.81\00:15:52.75 He entered into the Holy Place, having obtained 00:15:52.78\00:15:56.52 eternal redemption for us." 00:15:56.55\00:15:58.81 Notice once again that the true tabernacle, 00:15:58.84\00:16:02.09 the heavenly sanctuary, is a more perfect tabernacle 00:16:02.12\00:16:06.17 not made with hands. 00:16:06.20\00:16:09.27 In other words, the earthly sanctuary had the purpose 00:16:09.30\00:16:12.33 of serving as a scale model to illustrate great truths 00:16:12.36\00:16:16.61 about the greater heavenly sanctuary. 00:16:16.64\00:16:19.49 So one reason why God had all of these earthly sanctuaries built 00:16:19.88\00:16:24.50 was because He wanted people to catch a vision 00:16:24.53\00:16:27.72 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:16:27.75\00:16:29.54 But these earthly temples represented 00:16:29.95\00:16:32.38 other things as well. 00:16:32.41\00:16:33.78 And we're going to study this in this seminar. 00:16:33.81\00:16:35.98 These temples also represented our body temple. 00:16:36.65\00:16:41.07 Notice 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19 and 20. 00:16:41.36\00:16:45.68 You see, the sanctuary is an illustration of us, 00:16:45.93\00:16:49.00 of our body temple. 00:16:49.03\00:16:50.40 In fact, we have a whole lecture that is titled, 00:16:50.43\00:16:52.69 The Two Temples, towards the end of this series 00:16:52.72\00:16:55.95 where I'm going to compare the sanctuary with our body temple. 00:16:55.98\00:16:59.08 God gave these temples to illustrate plans that He had 00:16:59.11\00:17:02.40 for our own personal body temple. 00:17:02.43\00:17:05.38 It says in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 verses 19 and 20, 00:17:05.41\00:17:09.01 See, the Shekinah is the Holy Spirit, in the case of 00:17:15.91\00:17:18.31 our body temple. 00:17:18.34\00:17:19.71 So in other words, another reason why God had these 00:17:34.78\00:17:38.51 sanctuaries built is because He wanted to give great lessons 00:17:38.54\00:17:41.82 about our own personal body temple. 00:17:41.85\00:17:46.00 Incidentally, these temples were also built to give great lessons 00:17:46.86\00:17:52.30 about the body temple of Jesus. 00:17:52.33\00:17:54.93 Notice what we find in John chapter 2 and 00:17:55.17\00:17:57.71 verses 19 through 21. 00:17:57.91\00:18:00.03 John chapter 2 and verses 19 through 21 00:18:00.06\00:18:03.08 See, these earthly sanctuaries also illustrated great truths 00:18:03.11\00:18:06.44 about Jesus and His body temple. 00:18:06.47\00:18:09.04 It says there in John chapter 2 and verse 19... 00:18:09.34\00:18:12.40 Now notice verse 21. 00:18:30.57\00:18:32.23 "Therefore when He had risen from the dead, 00:18:36.71\00:18:39.05 the disciples remembered that He had said this to them and they 00:18:39.08\00:18:43.57 believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said." 00:18:43.60\00:18:47.97 So the temple was actually symbolic of the body temple 00:18:48.24\00:18:52.22 of Jesus, interestingly enough. 00:18:52.25\00:18:54.60 So the temple was given, not only to give lessons about 00:18:54.81\00:18:58.66 the heavenly sanctuary, about our body temple, 00:18:58.69\00:19:02.05 but also about the body temple of Jesus Christ. 00:19:02.08\00:19:05.85 But there's another dimension to these earthly temples. 00:19:06.08\00:19:09.22 These earthly temples were also given as an illustration 00:19:09.69\00:19:13.77 of the Christian church, which in Scripture is called 00:19:13.97\00:19:18.06 the temple of God. 00:19:18.09\00:19:19.50 Go with me to Ephesians chapter 2 00:19:19.53\00:19:21.91 and verses 19 through 22. 00:19:21.94\00:19:24.31 Ephesians chapter 2 and verses 19 through 22. 00:19:24.34\00:19:29.04 Here we find that these earthly temples, or sanctuaries, 00:19:29.07\00:19:32.98 represented the Christian church. 00:19:33.01\00:19:36.07 It says there in verse 19... 00:19:36.10\00:19:38.49 Now notice the spiritual temple. 00:19:48.62\00:19:50.63 See, these are not stone foundations. 00:19:54.75\00:19:56.98 The foundations of this temple are the apostles and prophets, 00:19:57.01\00:20:01.55 Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone. 00:20:01.58\00:20:04.94 See, the temple had a chief cornerstone 00:20:04.97\00:20:06.69 that held it all together. 00:20:06.72\00:20:08.24 And now notice that we are the building. 00:20:08.47\00:20:10.24 It says in verse 21... 00:20:10.44\00:20:12.01 Is there a Shekinah in this church temple? 00:20:26.23\00:20:28.56 Absolutely. 00:20:28.59\00:20:29.96 So these earthly temples were given to teach great lessons 00:20:38.58\00:20:42.78 about the heavenly sanctuary, about Jesus Christ, 00:20:42.81\00:20:46.44 about our body temple, and about the Christian church. 00:20:46.47\00:20:50.31 In fact, later on we're going to have a lecture where we 00:20:50.49\00:20:52.66 talk about the antichrist sitting in the temple of God 00:20:52.69\00:20:56.87 showing himself to be God. 00:20:56.90\00:20:58.43 Some people think that somebody is going to rise over in the 00:20:58.46\00:21:01.30 Middle East and sit in a literally rebuilt Jewish temple. 00:21:01.33\00:21:04.98 Is it just possible that he's going to sit within 00:21:05.01\00:21:08.36 the Christian church itself, and that's the temple 00:21:08.39\00:21:11.53 that Scripture is talking about? 00:21:11.56\00:21:12.98 I believe so. 00:21:13.01\00:21:14.38 Now let's talk a little bit about the geography 00:21:14.59\00:21:17.78 of the sanctuary, or of the temple. 00:21:17.81\00:21:20.38 And you'll find an illustration here on the platform. 00:21:20.58\00:21:24.34 The only one that is not in order is the central one 00:21:24.47\00:21:29.51 where you have the priest and you have the lamb. 00:21:29.54\00:21:32.33 I put that one there because that's central 00:21:32.53\00:21:34.54 to the sanctuary service. 00:21:34.57\00:21:35.94 Without that, you don't have anything. 00:21:35.97\00:21:37.80 All of the other panels are in the exact order in which 00:21:37.83\00:21:42.35 the sanctuary was built. 00:21:42.38\00:21:44.12 Now we're suppose to read from east to west because 00:21:44.22\00:21:47.30 the sanctuary was actually, the entrance to the sanctuary was 00:21:47.33\00:21:51.46 actually on the east side. 00:21:51.49\00:21:52.86 Which means that when people worshiped towards the sanctuary, 00:21:52.89\00:21:56.05 their backs were to the sun. 00:21:56.08\00:21:58.17 That was intentional. 00:21:58.20\00:21:59.59 Because in antiquity, people worshiped with their faces 00:21:59.89\00:22:03.41 towards the sun, according to Ezekiel chapter 8. 00:22:03.44\00:22:06.22 But because the entrance to the sanctuary was on the east side, 00:22:06.25\00:22:09.26 when people faced east, their backs were what? 00:22:09.29\00:22:12.49 Their backs were to the sun. 00:22:12.79\00:22:14.37 They were not to worship the sun god. 00:22:14.40\00:22:16.46 And so, you have first of all the camp. 00:22:16.69\00:22:20.96 And that's not depicted here on the platform. 00:22:21.48\00:22:24.11 You have the camp. That's where Israel lived. 00:22:24.14\00:22:26.33 That's where sinners lived. 00:22:26.63\00:22:28.27 They were the ones who needed the sanctuary. 00:22:28.30\00:22:30.95 The sanctuary encampment was actually part of 00:22:30.98\00:22:33.85 the Hebrew Sanctuary. 00:22:33.88\00:22:35.25 We usually start with the court, Holy Place, and Most Holy Place. 00:22:35.28\00:22:38.26 But the camp, we're going to find, was very, very important 00:22:38.29\00:22:41.92 in the sanctuary service. 00:22:41.95\00:22:43.55 And so the camp is the first key place of the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:22:43.77\00:22:47.99 There were three tribes that camped at each point of 00:22:48.32\00:22:52.63 the compass of the sanctuary. 00:22:52.66\00:22:54.59 And then, of course, we have the court. 00:22:54.84\00:22:56.92 Which is kind of like a yard without a roof on it. 00:22:56.95\00:23:00.09 And the court had two key pieces of furniture. 00:23:00.35\00:23:03.66 As you went in through the gate into the court, 00:23:03.69\00:23:06.35 you had the altar of sacrifice. 00:23:06.38\00:23:09.36 That's where all of the animals that were sacrificed 00:23:09.39\00:23:12.21 were placed and they were burned. 00:23:12.24\00:23:13.94 And then a little bit further in, before you got to the 00:23:14.15\00:23:17.20 entrance of the sanctuary, you had the laver. 00:23:17.23\00:23:21.24 And so I want you to keep this in your mind. 00:23:21.53\00:23:24.03 Because every aspect of the sanctuary 00:23:24.06\00:23:26.43 is extremely important. 00:23:26.46\00:23:27.83 So you have the camp beyond all of this where Israel was camped, 00:23:27.86\00:23:32.42 where the needy sinners were living. 00:23:32.45\00:23:34.85 And then you have the altar of sacrifice. 00:23:34.88\00:23:38.11 And then you have the laver. 00:23:38.14\00:23:39.68 Both of those pieces of furniture were actually 00:23:39.71\00:23:42.54 in the court of the sanctuary. 00:23:42.57\00:23:44.41 And then you go into the tent proper. 00:23:44.44\00:23:47.67 And as you go into the tent, you go into an apartment 00:23:47.87\00:23:51.86 which is called the Holy Place of the sanctuary. 00:23:51.89\00:23:54.96 And by the way, you're going from west to east. 00:23:54.99\00:23:58.01 So as you're going in through the door, into the tent, 00:23:58.04\00:24:00.88 you look to the left, that's south, and you see 00:24:00.91\00:24:04.52 a seven branch candlestick. 00:24:04.82\00:24:07.47 And you have the illustration in your hands. 00:24:07.50\00:24:09.63 You have a seven branch candlestick that remained 00:24:09.66\00:24:14.05 lighted all the time. 00:24:14.08\00:24:15.67 It had oil all of the time. 00:24:15.70\00:24:18.04 And then as you look to the right, which is north, 00:24:18.30\00:24:21.57 you have the table of the showbread. 00:24:21.60\00:24:24.34 Twelve loaves of bread in two stacks on this golden table, 00:24:24.54\00:24:29.65 the table of the showbread. 00:24:29.68\00:24:31.19 And then straight in front of you as you go towards 00:24:31.61\00:24:37.00 the Most Holy Place, right before you go beyond the veil, 00:24:37.03\00:24:40.03 you have the golden altar of incense. 00:24:40.06\00:24:44.91 So in other words, in the Holy Place of the sanctuary, 00:24:44.94\00:24:47.92 you have three pieces of furniture. 00:24:47.95\00:24:49.81 You have in the south the seven branch candlestick. 00:24:49.84\00:24:54.45 Pure gold, 120 pounds. 00:24:54.48\00:24:56.31 We're going to study that. Of pure gold. 00:24:56.34\00:24:58.32 And then you have the table of the showbread, which is north 00:24:58.35\00:25:01.36 as you look to your right. 00:25:01.39\00:25:02.76 Twelve loaves of bread. 00:25:02.79\00:25:04.16 That is a very important number, we're going to find. 00:25:04.19\00:25:06.99 And then straight ahead of you, before you go into 00:25:07.02\00:25:09.27 the Most Holy Place, you have the golden altar of incense 00:25:09.30\00:25:13.79 where incense was burning all the time. 00:25:13.82\00:25:16.88 And then you have a veil. 00:25:17.56\00:25:18.98 And behind the veil, you have the apartment which is called 00:25:19.39\00:25:22.62 the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary. 00:25:22.65\00:25:25.44 And in the Most Holy Place, you have one piece of furniture. 00:25:25.73\00:25:29.04 And you can see it over there on the far side. 00:25:29.07\00:25:32.84 You have what is called, the ark of the covenant. 00:25:32.94\00:25:36.33 And above the ark of the covenant, you have the 00:25:36.36\00:25:38.79 Shekinah Glory; the glory of God that was above the ark. 00:25:38.82\00:25:43.53 And the Bible tells us that inside the ark were the 00:25:43.78\00:25:49.77 two tables of stone that contained the Ten Commandments. 00:25:49.80\00:25:54.16 But not only were the Ten Commandments inside the 00:25:54.19\00:25:57.43 ark of the covenant beneath where the glory of God was 00:25:57.46\00:26:00.91 manifested above the mercy seat, which was the cover of the ark. 00:26:00.94\00:26:05.18 But you also had inside the ark of the covenant, 00:26:05.21\00:26:09.06 a pot of manna. 00:26:09.36\00:26:11.81 Very, very important symbolically. 00:26:12.00\00:26:14.37 You had a pot of manna, the manna that fell in the 00:26:14.40\00:26:17.35 wilderness for 40 years. 00:26:17.38\00:26:19.74 And you also had in the Most Holy Place inside the 00:26:19.77\00:26:23.64 ark of the covenant, Aaron's rod, which was a dead rod 00:26:23.67\00:26:28.38 that budded miraculously. 00:26:28.41\00:26:31.09 And so in the ark of the covenant, you have three things. 00:26:31.38\00:26:34.65 You have the tables of the law, you have a pot of manna, 00:26:34.68\00:26:38.84 and you have Aaron's rod that budded. 00:26:38.87\00:26:42.85 So is it clear in your mind the geography of the sanctuary? 00:26:43.53\00:26:46.99 Very important that we have this clear in mind, 00:26:47.19\00:26:49.52 because we're going to be referring to it time and again 00:26:49.55\00:26:52.76 as we move through this seminar. 00:26:52.79\00:26:54.63 Now let's talk about the relationship between the 00:26:54.88\00:26:57.50 earthly sanctuary and the heavenly sanctuary. 00:26:57.53\00:26:59.79 Now the earthly sanctuary was a small scale model 00:27:00.32\00:27:04.42 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:27:04.45\00:27:06.27 In other words, it was a miniature 00:27:06.30\00:27:08.59 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:27:08.62\00:27:10.17 The heavenly sanctuary is far greater than the 00:27:10.20\00:27:13.29 earthly sanctuary ever was. 00:27:13.32\00:27:15.32 Let's go to 1 Kings chapter 8 and verses 27 to 30. 00:27:15.35\00:27:21.67 1 Kings chapter 8 verses 27 to 30, 00:27:21.95\00:27:25.17 where it speaks about the heavenly sanctuary. 00:27:25.20\00:27:29.00 It says there... 00:27:29.39\00:27:31.03 Notice that in this earthly temple, God is looking 00:28:06.26\00:28:10.43 upon the earthly temple. 00:28:10.46\00:28:11.83 Where was God? 00:28:44.41\00:28:45.78 God was in His heavenly temple. 00:28:46.08\00:28:48.98 But He also was present through His Spirit where? 00:28:49.01\00:28:52.45 In the earthly temple. 00:28:52.48\00:28:53.91 But the earthly temple was far inferior to the heavenly temple. 00:28:53.94\00:28:58.77 Notice also Acts chapter 7 and verses 47 through 50. 00:28:59.01\00:29:04.21 Acts chapter 7 and verses 47 through 50. 00:29:04.24\00:29:09.11 Here, Stephen is speaking. 00:29:09.40\00:29:11.76 He's telling the story of Israel in Acts chapter 7. 00:29:11.79\00:29:16.31 And he says there in verse 47, "But Solomon 00:29:16.52\00:29:20.23 built Him a house..." 00:29:20.26\00:29:21.63 That is, built God a house. 00:29:21.66\00:29:23.10 "However, the Most High does not dwell 00:29:23.23\00:29:27.11 in temples made with hands..." 00:29:27.14\00:29:28.98 Where does God dwell then? 00:29:29.01\00:29:30.75 God dwells in the heavenly temple. 00:29:31.19\00:29:33.72 The earthly temple is simply a figure or a symbol. 00:29:33.75\00:29:37.67 And then it continues saying, "...as the prophet says, 00:29:38.15\00:29:42.35 'Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. 00:29:42.38\00:29:46.37 What house will you build for Me' says the Lord. 00:29:46.40\00:29:50.53 'Or what is the place of My rest?'" 00:29:50.56\00:29:53.79 In other words, the earthly sanctuary was only a scale model 00:29:54.21\00:29:58.52 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:29:58.55\00:30:00.29 In fact, let's notice Exodus 25 and verse 40, 00:30:00.45\00:30:03.56 which we already read. 00:30:03.59\00:30:04.96 Let's take a look at it again. 00:30:04.99\00:30:06.57 Exodus 25 and verse 40. 00:30:06.60\00:30:09.29 I'm going to include verse 8 also. 00:30:09.66\00:30:12.82 It says, "And let them make Me a sanctuary, 00:30:12.85\00:30:14.98 that I may dwell among them." 00:30:15.01\00:30:17.44 And then it says in verse 40, God speaking to Moses... 00:30:17.47\00:30:20.83 So what did God show Moses on the mountain? 00:30:28.07\00:30:31.07 God did not show Moses the heavenly sanctuary. 00:30:31.10\00:30:34.60 God showed Moses a scale model of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:30:35.06\00:30:40.15 In other words, God made a miniature 00:30:40.39\00:30:43.20 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:30:43.23\00:30:44.95 In fact, let's notice Exodus 26 and verse 30 00:30:44.98\00:30:48.53 where we find the same idea. 00:30:48.56\00:30:50.18 Exodus 26 and verse 30. 00:30:50.21\00:30:53.17 It says... 00:30:53.58\00:30:54.95 Now we've already read Hebrews chapter 8 and verses 1 through 5 00:31:04.28\00:31:08.72 where it says that the earthly sanctuary was a copy, 00:31:08.92\00:31:13.14 the earthly sanctuary was a shadow, 00:31:13.17\00:31:16.57 of the true heavenly sanctuary. 00:31:16.60\00:31:18.95 Allow me to explain and illustrate so that we can 00:31:18.98\00:31:22.40 understand the relationship between the heavenly 00:31:22.43\00:31:24.64 and the earthly sanctuary. 00:31:24.67\00:31:26.18 Let's take the idea of the scale model. 00:31:27.21\00:31:29.26 You know, several years ago, our airport here in Fresno 00:31:29.99\00:31:33.62 was remodeled. 00:31:33.65\00:31:35.42 And I don't know if those of you who were here remember 00:31:35.97\00:31:39.32 that there was a little scale model of what the final 00:31:39.35\00:31:44.38 airport would look like. 00:31:44.41\00:31:46.26 Now you could get an idea where everything was going to be. 00:31:46.98\00:31:49.65 Where the parking was going to be, 00:31:49.68\00:31:51.44 where the terminal was going to be. 00:31:51.47\00:31:53.14 You had an idea of where everything was going to be. 00:31:53.17\00:31:55.85 But that was only a small scale model of the finished product. 00:31:55.88\00:32:01.15 In other words, what God showed Moses was a little scale model 00:32:01.60\00:32:05.97 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:32:06.00\00:32:07.70 Because the heavenly sanctuary is so large that nothing like it 00:32:07.73\00:32:11.55 could have been built upon the earth. 00:32:11.58\00:32:13.71 Or it's kind of like taking a picture. 00:32:13.74\00:32:15.62 You know, you get a camera and you take a picture of someone. 00:32:16.02\00:32:19.44 Does the picture give you an idea about that person? 00:32:20.03\00:32:22.71 Yes. 00:32:22.77\00:32:24.14 Is the person a lot smaller in the picture? 00:32:24.17\00:32:25.87 Absolutely yes. 00:32:26.36\00:32:28.01 But does the picture give you an idea of the greater reality? 00:32:28.04\00:32:31.42 Of course. 00:32:31.45\00:32:32.82 And so it is with the sanctuary. 00:32:32.85\00:32:34.48 The sanctuary; God took a snapshot of the sanctuary 00:32:34.51\00:32:37.63 and He showed the snapshot to Moses. 00:32:37.66\00:32:40.22 And then Moses built the sanctuary according to the 00:32:40.25\00:32:43.61 scale model that God showed him. 00:32:43.64\00:32:45.93 Or we could compare it with the map. 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.69 Have you ever seen a map of California? 00:32:48.37\00:32:50.30 Let me ask you, what existed first, the map or California? 00:32:50.97\00:32:54.44 Of course, California. 00:32:55.07\00:32:56.44 And then they make a little map. 00:32:56.47\00:32:58.05 It shows you where all the cities are, the distances, 00:32:58.08\00:33:00.81 where all the rivers and where the mountains are. 00:33:00.84\00:33:02.86 You get a pretty good bird's eye view of California, right? 00:33:02.89\00:33:06.38 But it's a miniature of California. 00:33:06.58\00:33:09.39 California is much greater. 00:33:09.66\00:33:11.58 And so, the sanctuary was in that way. 00:33:11.78\00:33:14.59 God showed Moses, so to speak, a little map of the 00:33:14.62\00:33:18.69 heavenly sanctuary, which is far greater. 00:33:18.72\00:33:21.36 The Bible says that the earthly sanctuary was a shadow 00:33:22.02\00:33:25.23 of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:33:25.26\00:33:26.85 Now in order for there to be a shadow, there has to be a 00:33:26.88\00:33:29.31 reality that projects the shadow. 00:33:29.34\00:33:31.66 Let me ask you, what's more real; a shadow or the 00:33:31.69\00:33:35.01 reality that projects the shadow? 00:33:35.04\00:33:36.87 The reality. 00:33:37.13\00:33:38.50 What's more real; a picture or the person who's in the picture? 00:33:38.53\00:33:42.25 The person who is in the picture. 00:33:42.67\00:33:44.41 Let me ask you, what is more real; a scale model 00:33:44.44\00:33:47.76 or the finished product that the scale model was pointing to? 00:33:47.79\00:33:51.36 The finished product. 00:33:51.43\00:33:52.94 And so the heavenly sanctuary is very real. 00:33:52.97\00:33:56.34 But it's huge, it's immense. 00:33:56.87\00:33:59.91 The Bible tells us that millions and millions of angels 00:34:00.13\00:34:03.82 angels are in the sanctuary. 00:34:03.85\00:34:05.22 We're going to study that tomorrow morning. 00:34:05.25\00:34:06.62 Lord willing. 00:34:06.65\00:34:08.02 I mean, there's no earthly person that even conceive 00:34:08.05\00:34:11.78 what the heavenly sanctuary is like. 00:34:11.81\00:34:13.18 So God made a little scale model. 00:34:13.21\00:34:15.05 And He said to Moses, "You build a sanctuary 00:34:15.08\00:34:17.64 according to the scale model, which is an illustration 00:34:17.67\00:34:21.32 of the greatness of the heavenly sanctuary." 00:34:21.35\00:34:24.48 It reminds me of 1 Corinthians chapter 13 and verse 12 00:34:25.37\00:34:29.22 where it says... 00:34:29.25\00:34:30.62 In other words, we can know little now, enough to get there. 00:34:42.40\00:34:46.51 And when we get there, we will see the real thing. 00:34:46.54\00:34:50.18 Now we need to also talk about the Messiah's calendar 00:34:51.18\00:34:57.32 in relationship to the sanctuary. 00:34:57.35\00:34:59.26 The sanctuary primarily presents the events of salvation history 00:34:59.52\00:35:05.24 by Jesus Christ. 00:35:05.27\00:35:06.64 But the Hebrew feasts present the calendar 00:35:06.80\00:35:11.18 or the timing of those events that are illustrated 00:35:11.21\00:35:15.03 in the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:35:15.06\00:35:16.93 Now let's go to Leviticus chapter 23 and verse 3 00:35:17.53\00:35:21.03 and read about these so called Hebrew feasts. 00:35:21.28\00:35:25.72 They follow the exact order of the sanctuary. 00:35:25.75\00:35:28.85 Leviticus 23 and verse 3. 00:35:29.19\00:35:32.05 And actually let's start reading at verse 1 for the context. 00:35:32.55\00:35:35.59 It says, "And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 00:35:35.62\00:35:39.10 'Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, 00:35:39.13\00:35:42.34 "The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be 00:35:42.54\00:35:46.99 holy convocations, these are My feasts."'" 00:35:47.02\00:35:51.47 Now there were four spring feasts and there were 00:35:51.81\00:35:55.27 three fall feasts. 00:35:55.30\00:35:57.26 And in between the spring feasts and the fall feasts, 00:35:57.29\00:35:59.78 you have a long summer drought, a long summer where there are 00:35:59.81\00:36:04.27 no feasts at all. 00:36:04.30\00:36:06.01 Now allow me to mention the spring feasts. 00:36:06.44\00:36:09.05 The spring feasts were the Passover... 00:36:09.21\00:36:12.35 What was the Passover? 00:36:14.13\00:36:15.55 What was sacrificed on the Passover? 00:36:15.58\00:36:17.59 A lamb. 00:36:17.75\00:36:19.12 See, there you have the altar of sacrifice represented. 00:36:19.15\00:36:22.25 And then the next two feasts are Unleavened Bread 00:36:22.47\00:36:25.42 and First Fruits. 00:36:25.45\00:36:27.01 Now do you know what Unleavened Bread represents? 00:36:27.73\00:36:30.13 It represents the burial of Christ. 00:36:30.16\00:36:32.30 And First Fruits represents His resurrection. 00:36:32.33\00:36:34.86 Because the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15 00:36:34.89\00:36:37.70 that Jesus rose the first fruits of those who went to sleep. 00:36:37.73\00:36:41.65 We're going to find in our study that the laver represents 00:36:42.30\00:36:45.73 the resurrection of Jesus Christ, interestingly enough. 00:36:45.76\00:36:49.32 And the feast of First Fruits represents the 00:36:49.35\00:36:52.24 resurrection of Jesus. 00:36:52.27\00:36:53.66 So we have Passover and Unleavened Bread. 00:36:53.69\00:36:56.26 They were connected. 00:36:56.29\00:36:57.66 And then we have First Fruits, represented also by the laver, 00:36:57.69\00:37:01.67 the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 00:37:01.70\00:37:03.83 And then you have after this the Feast of Pentecost. 00:37:03.86\00:37:08.08 On the Feast of Pentecost, we're going to find that Jesus 00:37:08.88\00:37:11.75 entered the Holy Place. 00:37:11.78\00:37:13.23 He entered there to interceded for us. 00:37:13.26\00:37:15.74 In other words, He entered where the candlestick is, 00:37:15.77\00:37:19.40 and where the table of the showbread is, 00:37:19.43\00:37:21.62 and also where the altar of incense is found. 00:37:21.65\00:37:27.16 In other words, Pentecost, which came exactly 50 days 00:37:27.19\00:37:31.24 after First Fruits, represents the beginning of the 00:37:31.27\00:37:35.71 intercession of Jesus in the Holy Place of the sanctuary. 00:37:35.74\00:37:39.00 Do you see how this is following the order of events 00:37:39.03\00:37:42.43 in the ministry of Christ? 00:37:42.46\00:37:43.92 But it's giving us the dates. 00:37:43.95\00:37:46.13 Because Passover the year Jesus died was the 14th of Nisan, 00:37:46.22\00:37:49.69 Unleavened Bread was the 15th of Nisan, 00:37:49.72\00:37:52.12 First Fruits was the 16th of Nisan, the third day, 00:37:52.15\00:37:55.84 and Pentecost was 50 days later. 00:37:55.87\00:37:57.96 And the Bible tells us that on the day of Pentecost, 00:37:57.99\00:38:01.36 the Holy Spirit was poured out because Jesus had begun His 00:38:01.39\00:38:04.28 intercessory ministry in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:38:04.31\00:38:07.31 And then we have the fall feasts. 00:38:07.88\00:38:09.60 You see, the Feasts of Trumpets was the first fall feast 00:38:10.10\00:38:12.82 and it announced the coming of the Day of Atonement 00:38:12.85\00:38:15.27 which took place, it was the great day of judgment 00:38:15.30\00:38:17.71 in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary. 00:38:17.74\00:38:20.43 Let me ask you, what is the next apartment in the sanctuary 00:38:20.46\00:38:23.31 in the ministration of Christ? 00:38:23.34\00:38:24.96 It is the Most Holy Place where the ark of the covenant 00:38:25.21\00:38:28.08 and where the Law is. 00:38:28.11\00:38:29.48 In other words, we find in the sanctuary the movements of 00:38:30.34\00:38:34.73 Jesus Christ and the timing of those events. 00:38:34.76\00:38:37.75 Because the Hebrew feasts give specific dates 00:38:37.94\00:38:41.61 when Jesus was going to begin His ministry in these particular 00:38:41.64\00:38:46.38 apartments of the sanctuary. 00:38:46.41\00:38:48.54 And of course, we're going to be studying this in detail 00:38:48.57\00:38:51.79 as we move along. 00:38:51.82\00:38:53.32 Now how important is the sanctuary? 00:38:54.27\00:38:56.32 Let me just mention a few very important things. 00:38:56.35\00:38:59.23 The book of Daniel is seeped in sanctuary terminology. 00:39:00.30\00:39:05.71 In fact, there's no way you can understand the book of Daniel 00:39:05.74\00:39:08.26 without the sanctuary. 00:39:08.29\00:39:09.66 Particularly chapter 8 where it speaks about a little horn 00:39:09.93\00:39:14.34 that takes away the daily. 00:39:14.37\00:39:16.17 And where it speaks about the sanctuary being cleansed; 00:39:16.36\00:39:19.86 a reference to Leviticus chapter 16, 00:39:19.89\00:39:22.85 what happened on the Day of Atonement. 00:39:22.88\00:39:24.58 There's no way you can understand Daniel 00:39:24.61\00:39:26.63 without understanding the sanctuary. 00:39:26.66\00:39:28.43 Furthermore, the whole book of Hebrews from beginning 00:39:28.86\00:39:32.40 to end is an illustration of what Jesus has accomplished 00:39:32.43\00:39:37.45 in the sanctuary. 00:39:37.65\00:39:39.02 There's no way that you can understand the book of Hebrews 00:39:39.05\00:39:41.69 unless you understand the Old Testament Hebrew sanctuary. 00:39:41.72\00:39:45.33 Because the book of Hebrews is saturated 00:39:45.36\00:39:48.62 with sanctuary terminology. 00:39:48.65\00:39:50.99 The book of Psalms. 00:39:51.57\00:39:53.05 There's no way that the book of Psalms can be understood 00:39:53.65\00:39:56.37 independently of the feasts and of the sanctuary. 00:39:56.40\00:39:59.16 You know, David was called the... 00:39:59.97\00:40:01.76 The Bible tells us that he was skillful in playing the harp. 00:40:02.33\00:40:06.08 He was a great musician. 00:40:06.11\00:40:07.85 You can read that in 1 Samuel chapter 16 and verse 18. 00:40:07.88\00:40:11.48 He was so proficient in playing the harp 00:40:11.51\00:40:14.64 that the demons even fled when he was playing for King Saul. 00:40:14.67\00:40:18.80 The Bible also tells us in 2 Samuel chapter 23 and verse 1 00:40:19.37\00:40:23.08 that David was called the sweet psalmist of Israel. 00:40:23.11\00:40:26.70 He wrote 73 of the 150 psalms. 00:40:27.51\00:40:31.76 In fact, the book of Psalms was the hymnal of the sanctuary. 00:40:31.79\00:40:34.85 Each psalm had a particular sanctuary setting 00:40:35.48\00:40:39.04 or the psalm was read during a particular Hebrew feast. 00:40:39.14\00:40:44.48 Let me illustrate the point. 00:40:44.86\00:40:46.45 You know, when Jesus met with His disciples in the upper room 00:40:48.41\00:40:51.37 to institute the Lord's Supper, they sang Psalm 113 and 114. 00:40:52.51\00:41:01.44 See, the Psalms were the hymnal of the sanctuary. 00:41:01.47\00:41:04.93 And when the service was finished when Jesus had 00:41:05.33\00:41:08.24 instituted the Lord's Supper, they sang Psalm 115 00:41:08.27\00:41:15.26 through Psalm 118. 00:41:15.29\00:41:17.21 Do you remember that it says in the gospels that when they had 00:41:17.24\00:41:20.04 sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives? 00:41:20.07\00:41:22.83 Well, what they sang was actually Psalm 115 through 118. 00:41:23.03\00:41:28.00 Psalm 135 was sung at the Feast of Unleavened Bread. 00:41:28.48\00:41:35.32 Psalm 29 and Psalm 132 were sung at Pentecost 00:41:35.64\00:41:40.42 and at the Feast of Tabernacles. 00:41:40.45\00:41:42.19 The book of Ruth was sung at the Feast of Pentecost 00:41:42.22\00:41:45.54 because it has to do with the harvest. 00:41:45.57\00:41:48.03 And Psalms 47, 68, 29, and 132 were sung at the 00:41:48.06\00:41:53.89 Feast of Tabernacles. 00:41:53.92\00:41:55.29 In other words, the Psalms help us understand the sanctuary 00:41:55.32\00:41:59.39 and the Hebrew feasts because the Psalms were connected with 00:41:59.42\00:42:02.55 the sanctuary service. 00:42:02.58\00:42:03.95 In other words, the theme of the Psalms were connected with 00:42:03.98\00:42:06.54 specific events that had to do with the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:42:06.57\00:42:10.45 The book of Revelation cannot be understood 00:42:11.07\00:42:13.30 without the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:42:13.33\00:42:15.10 In fact, the book of Revelation is saturated 00:42:15.13\00:42:17.41 with sanctuary terminology. 00:42:17.44\00:42:18.94 Let's notice several examples. 00:42:18.97\00:42:20.66 Notice Revelation chapter 5 and verse 6. 00:42:21.09\00:42:24.16 Revelation chapter 5 and verse 6. 00:42:24.19\00:42:26.60 It says there... 00:42:26.96\00:42:28.33 There were millions of lambs that were killed 00:42:41.38\00:42:43.67 in the sanctuary service. 00:42:43.70\00:42:45.54 The seven candlesticks are mentioned 00:42:52.31\00:42:54.60 in the book of Revelation. 00:42:54.63\00:42:56.09 Notice Revelation chapter 1 and verses 12 and 13. 00:42:56.12\00:42:59.95 It says there... 00:43:00.25\00:43:01.62 See, there you have the Holy Place ministry of Christ. 00:43:08.18\00:43:11.41 The altar of incense is in the book of Revelation. 00:43:21.32\00:43:24.25 Notice Revelation chapter 8 and verses 3 through 5. 00:43:24.64\00:43:29.34 It says there, Revelation 8 verses 3 through 5... 00:43:29.65\00:43:32.49 So notice, you have the Lamb, you have the seven candlesticks, 00:43:53.82\00:43:57.40 you have the altar of incense. 00:43:57.43\00:43:59.39 You also have the manna. 00:43:59.87\00:44:01.36 Notice Revelation chapter 2 and verse 17. 00:44:01.39\00:44:05.18 Revelation chapter 2 and verse 17. 00:44:05.21\00:44:07.82 Do you know that the Most Holy Place is also mentioned 00:44:20.92\00:44:23.63 in the book of Revelation? 00:44:23.66\00:44:25.03 Notice Revelation chapter 11 and verse 19. 00:44:25.06\00:44:27.86 Revelation chapter 11 and verse 19. 00:44:27.89\00:44:30.46 In which temple? 00:44:39.91\00:44:41.28 In the heavenly temple. 00:44:41.88\00:44:43.33 Is there an ark in the heavenly temple? 00:44:43.36\00:44:44.97 Most certainly. 00:44:45.28\00:44:46.65 In fact, we don't have the time right now to show this, 00:44:56.63\00:45:00.19 but the book of Revelation follows the exact order of 00:45:00.22\00:45:03.65 the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:45:03.68\00:45:05.05 It goes from the people in the camp to the lamb, 00:45:05.97\00:45:10.22 to the candlesticks, to the table of showbread, 00:45:10.25\00:45:13.37 to the altar of incense, to the Most Holy Place, 00:45:13.40\00:45:16.65 and then to the cessation of intercession 00:45:16.68\00:45:19.99 in the Most Holy Place. 00:45:20.02\00:45:21.86 In fact, let's read that in Revelation chapter 15 00:45:21.89\00:45:24.62 and verses 5 through 8. 00:45:24.65\00:45:26.28 You know, the time is coming when the service of the 00:45:26.31\00:45:28.56 sanctuary is going to come to an end. 00:45:28.59\00:45:30.25 And nobody is going to be able to enter the sanctuary 00:45:30.28\00:45:32.98 by faith anymore. 00:45:33.02\00:45:34.39 Probation will have closed. 00:45:34.42\00:45:35.87 That is presented in Revelation 15 and verses 5 through 8. 00:45:35.90\00:45:40.34 Notice... 00:45:40.37\00:45:41.74 Is the sanctuary service going to come to an end some day? 00:46:19.97\00:46:22.59 Most certainly it will. 00:46:23.05\00:46:24.59 The Most Holy Place ministry of Christ will come to an end. 00:46:24.62\00:46:27.75 And when it comes to an end, probation will close. 00:46:27.78\00:46:30.52 A time of tribulation will come; the time of the plagues. 00:46:30.55\00:46:33.36 And then Jesus will return in power and glory. 00:46:33.39\00:46:37.18 The book of Revelation follows the exact order 00:46:37.21\00:46:40.20 of the Hebrew sanctuary from beginning to end. 00:46:40.23\00:46:42.99 Which means that there's no way that we can understand 00:46:43.02\00:46:45.72 the book of Revelation unless we understand the sanctuary. 00:46:45.75\00:46:49.25 So we must understand the sanctuary to understand the 00:46:49.58\00:46:52.00 Psalms, to understand the book of Revelation, 00:46:52.03\00:46:54.25 to understand the book of Hebrews, 00:46:54.28\00:46:56.04 to understand other portions of Scripture. 00:46:56.07\00:46:58.84 The sanctuary is of critical importance 00:46:59.39\00:47:01.98 for understanding Scripture. 00:47:02.01\00:47:04.29 Do you know that the sanctuary also presents 00:47:04.63\00:47:07.35 step by step each event of the life of Christ, 00:47:07.38\00:47:11.57 of the ministry of Christ? 00:47:11.60\00:47:13.13 Let's read several verses now so that you see how the sanctuary 00:47:13.76\00:47:17.72 points to each action of the ministry of Christ. 00:47:17.75\00:47:20.96 John chapter 1 and verse 14 speaks about Jesus coming 00:47:20.99\00:47:24.55 to the camp to live with us. 00:47:24.58\00:47:26.72 John chapter 1 and verse 14. 00:47:27.00\00:47:30.31 It says here... 00:47:30.61\00:47:31.98 Do you know that word "dwelt" actually means, 00:47:40.46\00:47:42.79 He pitched His tent. 00:47:42.82\00:47:44.33 The Greek word skenoo, it means He came and He pitched His tent. 00:47:46.39\00:47:49.23 He came to live in our midst. 00:47:49.26\00:47:50.68 Before He goes into the court to die at the altar, 00:47:50.99\00:47:54.90 He lives in our midst. 00:47:54.93\00:47:56.30 Because He came to live a perfect life so that 00:47:56.33\00:47:58.50 His sacrifice would be accepted. 00:47:58.53\00:48:00.40 See, sometimes we forget that He had to live a holy life 00:48:00.43\00:48:03.54 in order for His sacrifice to be accepted. 00:48:03.57\00:48:05.87 So the first step of the ministry of Jesus is to come 00:48:05.90\00:48:09.09 and live with us in the camp. 00:48:09.12\00:48:10.71 And so it says... 00:48:10.74\00:48:12.11 Did Jesus live without sin in our midst? 00:48:21.31\00:48:23.95 He most certainly did. 00:48:24.15\00:48:25.52 Notice Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 15. 00:48:25.55\00:48:28.65 Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 15. 00:48:28.68\00:48:30.83 "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot 00:48:31.06\00:48:34.00 sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted 00:48:34.03\00:48:38.50 as we are, yet without sin." 00:48:38.53\00:48:41.53 He lived in the camp with us, but He never what? 00:48:41.56\00:48:44.73 He never sinned. 00:48:44.76\00:48:46.13 Because He was that perfect lamb of the sanctuary service. 00:48:46.16\00:48:49.16 But then the lamb had to die. 00:48:49.19\00:48:50.88 That's the next step in the ministry of Jesus. 00:48:51.20\00:48:53.39 He was slain and then placed on the altar. 00:48:53.42\00:48:56.17 Notice 1 Peter chapter 1 and verses 18 through 20. 00:48:56.20\00:48:59.99 1 Peter chapter 1 and verses 18 through 20 00:49:00.02\00:49:03.40 speaks about the death of the unblemished lamb. 00:49:03.43\00:49:06.33 Was He without blemish and without spot 00:49:27.36\00:49:29.54 before He shed His blood? 00:49:29.57\00:49:30.94 Absolutely. 00:49:30.97\00:49:32.34 He came to live in our midst, to live a life without sin, 00:49:32.37\00:49:35.14 so His sacrifice as the lamb would be acceptable. 00:49:35.17\00:49:38.06 So first He came to live with us, then He came to die. 00:49:38.09\00:49:41.63 Now, the interesting thing is that the next thing that 00:49:41.92\00:49:44.16 Jesus does is intercede for us in the Holy Place. 00:49:44.19\00:49:47.80 Notice what we find in the book of Hebrews chapter 7 00:49:48.35\00:49:51.52 and verse 25. 00:49:51.55\00:49:53.02 This is the next step. 00:49:53.22\00:49:54.59 Jesus is now in the Holy Place where the table of showbread is, 00:49:54.62\00:49:57.40 where the seven branch candlestick is, 00:49:57.43\00:49:59.98 where the altar of incense is. 00:50:00.01\00:50:02.39 And we're going to follow Him, in each lecture, we're going to 00:50:02.42\00:50:06.14 follow Him in His trek through the sanctuary. 00:50:06.17\00:50:09.03 It says there in chapter 7 and verse 25... 00:50:09.06\00:50:11.56 See, Jesus went to heaven to the Holy Place to be 00:50:24.57\00:50:27.46 the intercessor. 00:50:27.49\00:50:28.86 Notice also 1 John chapter 2 and verse 1 speaks about 00:50:28.89\00:50:32.78 this stage of the ministry of Christ. 00:50:32.81\00:50:34.99 It says, "My little children, these things I write to you 00:50:35.21\00:50:39.31 so that you may not sin. 00:50:39.34\00:50:41.33 And if anyone sins, we have..." What? 00:50:41.36\00:50:44.65 "...we have an advocate with the Father, 00:50:44.68\00:50:48.50 Jesus Christ the..." What? 00:50:48.53\00:50:50.75 "...the righteous." 00:50:50.78\00:50:52.19 Let me ask you, is Jesus also going to perform someday 00:50:52.68\00:50:56.62 a Most Holy Place ministry of judgment? 00:50:56.65\00:50:59.08 He most certainly is. 00:50:59.47\00:51:00.94 Notice 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 10. 00:51:01.28\00:51:04.53 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 10. 00:51:04.77\00:51:08.14 It says here... 00:51:08.55\00:51:09.92 And let me ask you, where was the judgment in the sanctuary? 00:51:22.77\00:51:27.00 Where did the judgment take place once a year? 00:51:27.03\00:51:29.87 It took place in the Most Holy Place of the sanctuary, 00:51:30.13\00:51:33.38 because people will be judged by the perfect law of liberty. 00:51:33.41\00:51:37.58 The judgment takes place where the law is. 00:51:38.12\00:51:40.37 So Jesus is going to fulfill that function as well. 00:51:40.40\00:51:44.09 And you know what's interesting? 00:51:44.59\00:51:45.96 After Jesus performs His work in the Most Holy Place 00:51:45.99\00:51:48.60 of the sanctuary, the Bible tells us that He will take off 00:51:48.63\00:51:52.02 His priestly garments and He will return 00:51:52.05\00:51:54.58 to this earth as King. 00:51:54.61\00:51:56.78 The sanctuary also tells of that stage of the ministry of Christ. 00:51:58.71\00:52:02.00 Notice Revelation chapter 19 and we'll read verse 11, 00:52:02.03\00:52:05.60 and then we'll jump down to verse 16. 00:52:05.63\00:52:08.24 Revelation 19 verse 11. 00:52:08.27\00:52:10.06 In other words, Jesus will come back to this earth as 00:52:29.96\00:52:32.48 King of kings when He has finished 00:52:32.51\00:52:34.50 His Most Holy Place ministry. 00:52:34.53\00:52:36.29 But do you know there is another ceremony that needs to 00:52:36.32\00:52:38.65 take place after this. 00:52:38.68\00:52:40.24 It's found in the very next chapter. 00:52:40.66\00:52:42.64 Chapter 20 of Revelation. 00:52:42.67\00:52:44.37 Have you ever heard about the scapegoat ceremony? 00:52:44.40\00:52:47.68 When the scapegoat was sent to the wilderness 00:52:48.40\00:52:50.77 to a non-inhabited land, you see, that's in the next chapter. 00:52:50.80\00:52:54.88 Revelation chapter 20 and verses 1 and 2. 00:52:54.91\00:52:58.55 Let's read it. 00:52:58.58\00:52:59.95 So the sanctuary presents the order of all of the steps that 00:53:19.01\00:53:23.82 Jesus takes in the plan of salvation. 00:53:23.85\00:53:26.17 Now the final point that I want to make in our lecture today 00:53:26.47\00:53:29.70 is that the sanctuary actually explains all of the doctrines 00:53:29.73\00:53:35.22 of the Bible. 00:53:35.25\00:53:36.62 The sanctuary is the great magnet that brings 00:53:37.19\00:53:40.25 all of the doctrines of the Bible together. 00:53:40.28\00:53:42.83 Now let me mention some of those doctrines. 00:53:43.32\00:53:45.45 Does the sanctuary present the character of God? 00:53:45.48\00:53:48.59 It most certainly does. 00:53:49.15\00:53:50.52 It shows that God is justice; the law demand death. 00:53:50.55\00:53:54.09 But it shows that God is mercy because God takes the judgment 00:53:54.12\00:53:57.61 upon Himself. 00:53:57.64\00:53:59.16 It shows His justice and His love. 00:53:59.68\00:54:02.55 Does the sanctuary present the doctrine of sin? 00:54:03.01\00:54:05.46 Millions of sacrifices died in the sanctuary service 00:54:06.17\00:54:09.27 showing that the wages of sin is... What? 00:54:09.30\00:54:11.86 ...death. 00:54:11.89\00:54:13.26 Does the sanctuary present the humanity of Jesus? 00:54:13.29\00:54:15.99 It most certainly does. 00:54:16.30\00:54:17.67 You know, it's interesting that the sanctuary outside 00:54:17.70\00:54:20.22 was very ordinary, but inside it was beautiful. 00:54:20.25\00:54:23.84 And that was a picture of Jesus. 00:54:24.30\00:54:26.46 Inside, His character was beautiful. 00:54:26.88\00:54:28.95 But outside, He had no comeliness 00:54:28.98\00:54:31.11 that we should desire Him. 00:54:31.14\00:54:32.69 Does the Bible present the perfection of 00:54:33.17\00:54:35.51 the life of Christ? 00:54:35.54\00:54:36.91 Yes, because the priests could not have any blemish 00:54:36.94\00:54:39.69 and the lamb could not have any blemish. 00:54:39.72\00:54:42.35 Which shows that Jesus had to be a perfect sacrifice 00:54:42.38\00:54:45.12 and He had to be a perfect priest. 00:54:45.15\00:54:47.15 Is death revealed in the sanctuary? 00:54:47.74\00:54:49.98 It most certainly is. 00:54:50.01\00:54:51.38 Is forgiveness revealed in the sanctuary? 00:54:51.41\00:54:53.63 Absolutely. 00:54:53.66\00:54:55.03 When the sinner placed his sin on the head of the animal 00:54:55.06\00:54:57.43 and confessed his sin on the head of the animal, 00:54:57.46\00:54:59.91 the transfer was made. 00:54:59.94\00:55:01.31 And now the sinner could have the assurance of forgiveness. 00:55:01.34\00:55:06.22 Is the priesthood of Jesus presented in the sanctuary? 00:55:06.25\00:55:09.10 Most certainly. 00:55:09.13\00:55:10.50 Because the priest would take the blood into the Holy Place, 00:55:10.53\00:55:13.26 the blood of the victim to whom the sin had been transferred. 00:55:13.56\00:55:17.68 The blood was taken in, and in this way 00:55:17.71\00:55:20.28 forgiven sin was transferred into the sanctuary. 00:55:20.31\00:55:24.83 Is the importance of the study of Scripture 00:55:25.03\00:55:27.04 presented in the sanctuary? 00:55:27.07\00:55:28.74 Yes, in the table of showbread. 00:55:28.77\00:55:30.65 Is prayer presented in the sanctuary? 00:55:30.68\00:55:33.43 Yes, the altar of incense. 00:55:33.46\00:55:34.91 We're going to study all of these things. 00:55:34.94\00:55:36.56 Is the importance of the church shedding the light 00:55:36.84\00:55:39.16 of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit 00:55:39.19\00:55:41.55 presented in the sanctuary? 00:55:41.58\00:55:43.25 Yes, in the seven branch candlestick. 00:55:43.28\00:55:46.13 Are angels presented in the sanctuary? 00:55:47.27\00:55:49.86 We're going to study this tomorrow morning. 00:55:49.89\00:55:51.59 Amazing. 00:55:51.62\00:55:52.99 The doctrine of baptism is presented in the laver. 00:55:53.02\00:55:55.85 The Trinity is presented. 00:55:56.25\00:55:58.18 There's one seated on the throne. 00:55:58.21\00:55:59.74 Before the throne, a Lamb as though He had been slain. 00:55:59.77\00:56:02.86 And also the seven branched candlesticks, 00:56:02.89\00:56:05.65 which are called the seven Spirits of God. 00:56:05.68\00:56:08.50 The three are there. 00:56:08.53\00:56:09.90 Tithing is presented in the sanctuary. 00:56:09.93\00:56:12.51 This whole system was sustained by the tithes 00:56:12.54\00:56:15.06 and by offerings. 00:56:15.09\00:56:16.46 All of the doctrines of the Bible come together, 00:56:16.62\00:56:19.56 and you see the relationships of those doctrines 00:56:19.59\00:56:22.08 in the perspective of the sanctuary. 00:56:22.11\00:56:24.24 But not only the general truths, but also the distinctive truths. 00:56:24.27\00:56:28.51 Is the judgment presented in the sanctuary? 00:56:28.81\00:56:31.31 Absolutely, the cleansing of the sanctuary. 00:56:31.34\00:56:33.80 Is the law presented in the sanctuary? 00:56:33.83\00:56:36.55 Yes, it was in the ark of the covenant. 00:56:36.58\00:56:38.21 Is the Sabbath found in the sanctuary? 00:56:38.24\00:56:40.81 Yes, it's in the ark of the covenant. 00:56:40.84\00:56:42.95 Is healthful living in the sanctuary? 00:56:42.98\00:56:45.48 The manna pointed to healthful living. 00:56:45.51\00:56:47.83 We're going to study about that. 00:56:47.86\00:56:49.43 God gave manna to teach Israel to have a simple diet. 00:56:49.46\00:56:52.99 Is the state of the dead presented in the sanctuary? 00:56:53.47\00:56:56.11 Yes, that rod that sprouted life by a miracle of God, 00:56:56.21\00:57:00.25 we're going to find, represented that life comes 00:57:00.28\00:57:02.63 only through Jesus Christ. 00:57:02.66\00:57:04.38 The antichrist is presented in the sanctuary as well. 00:57:04.75\00:57:08.31 He sits in the temple of God showing himself to be God. 00:57:08.34\00:57:11.72 The millennium is in the sanctuary because the 00:57:11.75\00:57:14.53 scapegoat ceremony is found in Revelation chapter 20. 00:57:14.56\00:57:17.52 So all of the doctrines of the Bible are found 00:57:18.35\00:57:21.16 in the sanctuary. 00:57:21.19\00:57:22.56 What a magnificent lesson that God taught 00:57:22.59\00:57:25.39 through the Hebrew sanctuary. 00:57:25.42\00:57:27.35
