Hello and welcome to His words are life. 00:00:15.02\00:00:17.56 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today 00:00:17.57\00:00:19.22 we will be reading together from the Book of Obadiah 00:00:19.23\00:00:22.11 But in our day 00:00:30.30\00:00:32.62 and to spend few minutes with you 00:00:32.63\00:00:35.03 listening to Your words. 00:00:35.04\00:00:36.82 Please send Your Holy Spirit to be with us 00:00:36.83\00:00:38.69 now in a special way as we read. 00:00:38.70\00:00:40.85 We love You so much and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:00:40.86\00:00:45.27 Reading in the Book of Obadiah 00:00:45.28\00:00:47.00 Chapter 1 and starting with verse 7 00:00:47.01\00:00:50.27 and this is the King James Version. 00:00:50.28\00:00:53.73 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee 00:00:53.74\00:00:57.09 even to the border, the men 00:00:57.10\00:00:58.80 that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, 00:00:58.81\00:01:02.18 and prevailed against thee, 00:01:02.19\00:01:04.40 they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee, 00:01:04.41\00:01:07.98 there is none understanding in him. 00:01:07.99\00:01:11.05 Shall I not in that day, saith the Lord, 00:01:11.06\00:01:14.36 even destroy the wise men out of Edom, 00:01:14.37\00:01:17.57 and understanding out of the mount of Esau? 00:01:17.58\00:01:21.27 And thy mighty men, 00:01:21.28\00:01:22.65 O Teman, shall be dismayed, 00:01:22.66\00:01:24.83 to the end that everyone of the mount of Esau 00:01:24.84\00:01:27.74 may be cut off by slaughter. 00:01:27.75\00:01:30.46 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob 00:01:30.47\00:01:33.51 shame shall cover thee, 00:01:33.52\00:01:35.37 and thou shalt be cut off for ever. 00:01:35.38\00:01:38.01 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, 00:01:38.02\00:01:41.78 in the day that the strangers 00:01:41.79\00:01:43.67 carried away captive his forces, 00:01:43.68\00:01:46.40 and foreigners entered into his gates, 00:01:46.41\00:01:48.92 and cast lots upon Jerusalem, 00:01:48.93\00:01:51.83 even thou wast as one of them. 00:01:51.84\00:01:55.12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day 00:01:55.13\00:01:57.41 of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger, 00:01:57.42\00:02:00.74 neither shouldest thou have rejoiced 00:02:00.75\00:02:02.81 over the children of Judah 00:02:02.82\00:02:04.44 in the day of their destruction, 00:02:04.45\00:02:06.41 neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly 00:02:06.42\00:02:08.91 in the day of distress. 00:02:08.92\00:02:11.07 Thou shouldest not have entered 00:02:11.08\00:02:12.39 into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity, 00:02:12.40\00:02:15.60 yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction 00:02:15.61\00:02:18.75 in the day of their calamity, 00:02:18.76\00:02:20.34 nor have laid hands on their substance 00:02:20.35\00:02:22.87 in the day of their calamity, 00:02:22.88\00:02:24.40 neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, 00:02:24.41\00:02:26.96 to cut off those of his that did escape, 00:02:26.97\00:02:30.06 neither shouldest thou have delivered up 00:02:30.07\00:02:31.97 those of his that did remain in the day of distress. 00:02:31.98\00:02:36.11 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen, 00:02:36.12\00:02:41.00 as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee, 00:02:41.01\00:02:44.83 thy reward shall return upon thine own head. 00:02:44.84\00:02:48.66 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, 00:02:48.67\00:02:52.26 so shall all the heathen drink continually, 00:02:52.27\00:02:54.97 yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, 00:02:54.98\00:02:58.75 and they shall be as though they had not been. 00:02:58.76\00:03:02.89 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, 00:03:02.90\00:03:06.67 and there shall be holiness, 00:03:06.68\00:03:08.69 and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. 00:03:08.70\00:03:12.98 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, 00:03:12.99\00:03:15.48 and the house of Joseph a flame, 00:03:15.49\00:03:17.15 and the house of Esau for stubble, 00:03:17.16\00:03:20.31 and they shall kindle in them, and devour them, 00:03:20.32\00:03:22.84 and there shall not be any remaining 00:03:22.85\00:03:24.95 of the house of Esau, for the Lord hath spoken it. 00:03:24.96\00:03:29.68 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau, 00:03:29.69\00:03:33.39 and they of the plain the Philistines, 00:03:33.40\00:03:35.70 and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, 00:03:35.71\00:03:38.10 and the fields of Samaria, 00:03:38.11\00:03:39.90 and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. 00:03:39.91\00:03:43.05 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel 00:03:43.06\00:03:46.97 shall possess that of the Canaanites, 00:03:46.98\00:03:49.60 even unto Zarephath, 00:03:49.61\00:03:51.45 and the captivity of Jerusalem, 00:03:51.46\00:03:53.65 which is in Sepharad, 00:03:53.66\00:03:55.12 shall possess the cities of the south. 00:03:55.13\00:03:58.00 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion 00:03:58.01\00:04:01.57 to judge the mount of Esau, 00:04:01.58\00:04:04.04 and the kingdom shall be the Lord's. 00:04:04.05\00:04:08.35 Continuing now in the Book of Jonah 00:04:08.36\00:04:11.33 and this is the King James Version. 00:04:11.34\00:04:15.20 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah 00:04:15.21\00:04:17.75 the son of Amittai, saying, 00:04:17.76\00:04:20.01 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, 00:04:20.02\00:04:23.12 and cry against it, 00:04:23.13\00:04:24.88 for their wickedness is come up before me. 00:04:24.89\00:04:28.40 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish 00:04:28.41\00:04:31.19 from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa, 00:04:31.20\00:04:34.50 and he found a ship going to Tarshish, 00:04:34.51\00:04:36.24 so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, 00:04:36.25\00:04:39.42 to go with them unto Tarshish 00:04:39.43\00:04:41.05 from the presence of the Lord. 00:04:41.06\00:04:43.95 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, 00:04:43.96\00:04:47.06 and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, 00:04:47.07\00:04:48.99 so that the ship was like to be broken. 00:04:49.00\00:04:52.41 Then the mariners were afraid, 00:04:52.42\00:04:54.14 and cried every man unto his god, 00:04:54.15\00:04:56.91 and cast forth the wares 00:04:56.92\00:04:58.94 that were in the ship into the sea, 00:04:58.95\00:05:01.19 to lighten it of them. 00:05:01.20\00:05:03.67 But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship, 00:05:03.68\00:05:06.82 and he lay, and was fast asleep. 00:05:06.83\00:05:10.55 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, 00:05:10.56\00:05:14.16 what meanest thou, O sleeper? 00:05:14.17\00:05:16.48 Arise, call upon thy God, 00:05:16.49\00:05:18.73 if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. 00:05:18.74\00:05:23.08 And they said every one to his fellow, 00:05:23.09\00:05:25.81 come, and let us cast lots, 00:05:25.82\00:05:27.78 that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. 00:05:27.79\00:05:32.15 So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. 00:05:32.16\00:05:37.21 Then said they unto him, 00:05:37.22\00:05:39.09 Tell us, we pray thee, 00:05:39.10\00:05:40.69 for whose cause this evil is upon us, 00:05:40.70\00:05:43.10 what is thine occupation? 00:05:43.11\00:05:44.78 And whence comest thou? 00:05:44.79\00:05:46.59 What is thy country? 00:05:46.60\00:05:48.36 And of what people art thou? 00:05:48.37\00:05:51.62 And he said unto them, 00:05:51.63\00:05:53.59 I am an Hebrew, and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, 00:05:53.60\00:05:57.46 which hath made the sea and the dry land. 00:05:57.47\00:06:01.24 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, 00:06:01.25\00:06:03.71 and said unto him, 00:06:03.72\00:06:04.82 why hast thou done this? 00:06:04.83\00:06:07.11 For the men knew that he fled 00:06:07.12\00:06:09.25 from the presence of the Lord, 00:06:09.26\00:06:10.85 because he had told them. 00:06:10.86\00:06:13.14 Then said they unto him, what shall we do unto thee, 00:06:13.15\00:06:16.37 that the sea may be calm unto us? 00:06:16.38\00:06:19.45 For the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. 00:06:19.46\00:06:23.08 And he said unto them, take me up, 00:06:23.09\00:06:25.81 and cast me forth into the sea, 00:06:25.82\00:06:28.85 so shall the sea be calm unto you, 00:06:28.86\00:06:31.84 for I know that for my sake 00:06:31.85\00:06:34.10 this great tempest is upon you. 00:06:34.11\00:06:36.84 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land, 00:06:36.85\00:06:41.01 but they could not, for the sea wrought, 00:06:41.02\00:06:44.08 and was tempestuous against them. 00:06:44.09\00:06:47.01 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, 00:06:47.02\00:06:48.61 and said, we beseech thee, 00:06:48.62\00:06:50.75 O Lord, we beseech thee, 00:06:50.76\00:06:52.96 let us not perish for this man's life, 00:06:52.97\00:06:56.36 and lay not upon us innocent blood, 00:06:56.37\00:06:59.70 for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee. 00:06:59.71\00:07:04.32 So they took up Jonah, 00:07:04.33\00:07:06.14 and cast him forth into the sea, 00:07:06.15\00:07:08.89 and the sea ceased from her raging. 00:07:08.90\00:07:12.84 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, 00:07:12.85\00:07:15.00 and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows. 00:07:15.01\00:07:18.94 Now the Lord had prepared 00:07:18.95\00:07:20.49 a great fish to swallow up Jonah. 00:07:20.50\00:07:24.12 And Jonah was in the belly of the fish 00:07:24.13\00:07:27.20 three days and three nights. 00:07:27.21\00:07:30.76 Continuing the story of Jonah in Chapter 2, 00:07:30.77\00:07:34.11 this is the King James Version. 00:07:34.12\00:07:37.51 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God 00:07:37.52\00:07:41.06 out of the fish's belly, 00:07:41.07\00:07:42.76 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction 00:07:42.77\00:07:47.49 unto the Lord, and he heard me, 00:07:47.50\00:07:51.07 out of the belly of hell cried I, 00:07:51.08\00:07:53.49 and thou heardest my voice. 00:07:53.50\00:07:55.89 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, 00:07:55.90\00:07:58.63 in the midst of the seas, 00:07:58.64\00:07:59.93 and the floods compassed me about, 00:07:59.94\00:08:02.99 all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. 00:08:03.00\00:08:07.53 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight, 00:08:07.54\00:08:11.46 yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. 00:08:11.47\00:08:16.11 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul, 00:08:16.12\00:08:19.31 the depth closed me round about, 00:08:19.32\00:08:21.95 the weeds were wrapped about my head. 00:08:21.96\00:08:24.74 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains, 00:08:24.75\00:08:27.66 the earth with her bars was about me for ever, 00:08:27.67\00:08:31.51 yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, 00:08:31.52\00:08:35.64 O Lord my God. 00:08:35.65\00:08:38.17 When my soul fainted within me 00:08:38.18\00:08:41.04 I remembered the Lord, 00:08:41.05\00:08:42.94 and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. 00:08:42.95\00:08:48.15 They that observe lying vanities 00:08:48.16\00:08:51.45 forsake their own mercy. 00:08:51.46\00:08:53.85 But I will sacrifice unto thee 00:08:53.86\00:08:56.00 with the voice of thanksgiving, 00:08:56.01\00:08:57.63 I will pay that I have vowed. 00:08:57.64\00:09:00.67 Salvation is of the Lord. 00:09:00.68\00:09:04.19 And the Lord spake unto the fish, 00:09:04.20\00:09:06.52 and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. 00:09:06.53\00:09:10.91 Continuing in Jonah Chapter 3, 00:09:10.92\00:09:12.84 and this is the King James Version. 00:09:12.85\00:09:16.30 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah 00:09:16.31\00:09:18.42 the second time, saying, 00:09:18.43\00:09:20.30 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, 00:09:20.31\00:09:23.71 and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee. 00:09:23.72\00:09:27.99 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, 00:09:28.00\00:09:30.22 according to the word of the Lord. 00:09:30.23\00:09:32.39 Now Nineveh was an exceeding 00:09:32.40\00:09:34.22 great city of three days' journey. 00:09:34.23\00:09:38.06 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, 00:09:38.07\00:09:42.21 and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, 00:09:42.22\00:09:45.37 and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 00:09:45.38\00:09:47.90 So the people of Nineveh believed God, 00:09:47.91\00:09:51.24 and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, 00:09:51.25\00:09:55.06 from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 00:09:55.07\00:09:59.13 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, 00:09:59.14\00:10:00.87 and he arose from his throne, 00:10:00.88\00:10:02.23 and he laid his robe from him, 00:10:02.24\00:10:04.11 and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 00:10:04.12\00:10:07.46 And he caused it to be proclaimed 00:10:07.47\00:10:09.89 and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king 00:10:09.90\00:10:12.54 and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, 00:10:12.55\00:10:17.15 herd nor flock, taste any thing, 00:10:17.16\00:10:20.17 let them not feed, nor drink water, 00:10:20.18\00:10:23.04 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, 00:10:23.05\00:10:26.94 and cry mightily unto God, 00:10:26.95\00:10:29.24 yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, 00:10:29.25\00:10:33.11 and from the violence that is in their hands. 00:10:33.12\00:10:36.57 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, 00:10:36.58\00:10:38.99 and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? 00:10:39.00\00:10:45.62 And God saw their works, 00:10:45.63\00:10:47.78 that they turned from their evil way, 00:10:47.79\00:10:50.81 and God repented of the evil, 00:10:50.82\00:10:52.81 that he had said that he would do unto them, 00:10:52.82\00:10:55.70 and he did it not. 00:10:55.71\00:10:58.02 Continuing in Jonah Chapter 4, 00:10:58.03\00:11:00.24 and this is the King James Version. 00:11:00.25\00:11:03.57 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, 00:11:03.58\00:11:07.34 and he was very angry. 00:11:07.35\00:11:09.62 And he prayed unto the Lord, 00:11:09.63\00:11:10.92 and said, I pray thee, O Lord, 00:11:10.93\00:11:13.17 was not this my saying, 00:11:13.18\00:11:15.70 when I was yet in my country? 00:11:15.71\00:11:17.43 Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish, 00:11:17.44\00:11:20.21 for I knew that thou art a gracious God, 00:11:20.22\00:11:22.49 and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, 00:11:22.50\00:11:26.07 and repentest thee of the evil. 00:11:26.08\00:11:28.91 Therefore now, O Lord, take, 00:11:28.92\00:11:31.21 I beseech thee, my life from me, 00:11:31.22\00:11:34.22 for it is better for me to die than to live. 00:11:34.23\00:11:36.85 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry? 00:11:39.01\00:11:45.39 So Jonah went out of the city, 00:11:45.40\00:11:46.75 and sat on the east side of the city, 00:11:46.76\00:11:49.27 and there made him a booth, 00:11:49.28\00:11:51.32 and sat under it in the shadow, 00:11:51.33\00:11:53.74 till he might see what would become of the city. 00:11:53.75\00:11:58.01 And the Lord God prepared a gourd, 00:11:58.02\00:12:00.42 and made it to come up over Jonah, 00:12:00.43\00:12:03.00 that it might be a shadow over his head, 00:12:03.01\00:12:05.43 to deliver him from his grief. 00:12:05.44\00:12:08.46 So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd. 00:12:08.47\00:12:12.17 But God prepared a worm 00:12:12.18\00:12:13.95 when the morning rose the next day, 00:12:13.96\00:12:16.32 and it smote the gourd that it withered. 00:12:16.33\00:12:19.96 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, 00:12:19.97\00:12:23.32 that God prepared a vehement east wind, 00:12:23.33\00:12:26.42 and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, 00:12:26.43\00:12:29.41 that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, 00:12:29.42\00:12:32.43 and said, it is better for me to die than to live. 00:12:32.44\00:12:36.67 And God said to Jonah, 00:12:36.68\00:12:38.60 Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? 00:12:38.61\00:12:42.83 And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. 00:12:42.84\00:12:47.45 Then said the Lord, 00:12:47.46\00:12:49.09 Thou hast had pity on the gourd, 00:12:49.10\00:12:51.92 for the which thou hast not laboured, 00:12:51.93\00:12:54.22 neither madest it grow, which came up in a night, 00:12:54.23\00:12:57.07 and perished in a night. 00:12:57.08\00:12:59.10 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, 00:12:59.11\00:13:04.67 wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons 00:13:04.68\00:13:09.53 that cannot discern between their right hand 00:13:09.54\00:13:12.32 and their left hand, and also much cattle? 00:13:12.33\00:13:18.44 Continuing in the Book of Micah Chapter 1, 00:13:18.45\00:13:21.21 and this is the King James Version. 00:13:21.22\00:13:24.18 The word of the Lord that came to Micah 00:13:24.19\00:13:26.89 the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, 00:13:26.90\00:13:29.38 Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, 00:13:29.39\00:13:32.72 which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. 00:13:32.73\00:13:36.75 Hear, all ye people, hearken, O earth, 00:13:36.76\00:13:39.57 and all that therein is, 00:13:39.58\00:13:41.87 and let the Lord God be witness against you, 00:13:41.88\00:13:44.74 the Lord from his holy temple. 00:13:44.75\00:13:47.45 For, behold, the Lord cometh forth out of his place, 00:13:47.46\00:13:51.70 and will come down, 00:13:51.71\00:13:52.97 and tread upon the high places of the earth. 00:13:52.98\00:13:56.07 And the mountains shall be molten under him, 00:13:56.08\00:13:59.16 and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, 00:13:59.17\00:14:03.11 and as the waters that are poured down a steep place. 00:14:03.12\00:14:07.62 For the transgression of Jacob is all this, 00:14:07.63\00:14:10.48 and for the sins of the house of Israel. 00:14:10.49\00:14:13.13 What is the transgression of Jacob? 00:14:13.14\00:14:15.59 Is it not Samaria? 00:14:15.60\00:14:17.38 and what are the high place of Judah? 00:14:17.39\00:14:19.71 Are they not Jerusalem? 00:14:19.72\00:14:22.09 Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, 00:14:22.10\00:14:25.83 and as plantings of a vineyard, 00:14:25.84\00:14:27.96 and I will pour down the stones 00:14:27.97\00:14:30.21 thereof into the valley, 00:14:30.22\00:14:32.31 and I will discover the foundations thereof. 00:14:32.32\00:14:36.07 Please join me again next time 00:14:36.08\00:14:37.69 to continue reading the word of God together. Goodbye. 00:14:37.70\00:14:40.40
