Hello and welcome to His Words Are Life 00:00:13.95\00:00:16.15 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we'll be reading together in the book 00:00:16.18\00:00:19.60 of Ezekiel, but let's pray before we start. 00:00:19.64\00:00:21.89 Dear heavenly Father, thank you so much for a time to come apart 00:00:21.92\00:00:26.12 and hear you speak to each one of us through the words of your 00:00:26.15\00:00:30.45 prophet Ezekiel. Please send your Holy Spirit to show us more 00:00:30.49\00:00:34.75 of yourself in these words today. We love you so much 00:00:34.79\00:00:37.87 and thank you for loving us. Amen 00:00:37.91\00:00:39.95 When we were last together Ezekiel was describing how 00:00:39.98\00:00:45.11 Israel was like this newborn baby lying abandoned in a field 00:00:45.14\00:00:49.16 covered with blood and God came and looked at that baby and 00:00:49.19\00:00:53.06 pronounced life. He said, live. And that's the way we are. 00:00:53.10\00:00:56.84 God comes to each of us and pronounces that we will live. 00:00:56.87\00:01:01.13 And if we follow him we will live in joy and in his love and 00:01:01.16\00:01:05.38 peace and perfection. Israel strayed and we're going to 00:01:05.42\00:01:09.39 continue to read about their rebellion against God and find 00:01:09.42\00:01:13.41 the lessons that he has for us in our lives today in ways that 00:01:13.45\00:01:17.45 we may be turning still from the giver of life. We reading 00:01:17.49\00:01:21.45 in Ezekiel 16 and beginning with verse 57. 00:01:21.49\00:01:26.09 And this is the King James Version. 00:01:26.12\00:01:27.67 Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of 00:01:27.71\00:01:31.74 thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are 00:01:31.77\00:01:35.41 round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which 00:01:35.45\00:01:39.02 despise thee round about. Thou hast born thy lewdness and thine 00:01:39.05\00:01:43.49 abominations, saith the Lord. For thus saith the Lord God; 00:01:43.52\00:01:47.99 I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast 00:01:48.03\00:01:53.07 despised the oath in breaking the covenant. Nevertheless I 00:01:53.11\00:01:56.98 will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, 00:01:57.02\00:02:01.79 and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. Then 00:02:01.83\00:02:05.77 thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt 00:02:05.80\00:02:09.11 receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give 00:02:09.15\00:02:12.42 them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. And I 00:02:12.46\00:02:16.57 will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I 00:02:16.60\00:02:20.68 am the Lord: that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, 00:02:20.72\00:02:25.48 and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when 00:02:25.52\00:02:29.87 I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith 00:02:29.91\00:02:34.23 the Lord God. Continuing in Ezekiel chapter 17 00:02:34.26\00:02:38.29 and this is the King James Version. 00:02:38.32\00:02:39.72 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, son of man, put 00:02:39.76\00:02:44.60 forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of 00:02:44.64\00:02:47.65 Israel; and say, Thus saith the Lord God; A great eagle with 00:02:47.68\00:02:52.88 great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers 00:02:52.91\00:02:58.07 colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the 00:02:58.11\00:03:02.64 cedar: he cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried 00:03:02.68\00:03:07.65 it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants. 00:03:07.68\00:03:12.25 He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a 00:03:12.28\00:03:16.52 fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a 00:03:16.55\00:03:20.95 willow tree. And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low 00:03:20.98\00:03:24.80 stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots 00:03:24.83\00:03:28.58 thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth 00:03:28.61\00:03:32.22 branches, and shot forth sprigs. There was also another great 00:03:32.25\00:03:36.04 eagle with great wings and many feathers: and behold, this vine 00:03:36.07\00:03:39.82 did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches 00:03:39.85\00:03:43.50 toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her 00:03:43.53\00:03:47.11 plantation. It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that 00:03:47.14\00:03:50.37 it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, 00:03:50.40\00:03:54.92 that it might be a goodly vine. Say thou, Thus saith the Lord 00:03:54.96\00:03:59.44 God; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, 00:03:59.47\00:04:03.58 and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither 00:04:03.61\00:04:07.69 in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many 00:04:07.73\00:04:11.77 people to pluck it up by the roots thereof. Yea, behold, 00:04:11.81\00:04:16.21 being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, 00:04:16.24\00:04:20.20 when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows 00:04:20.24\00:04:24.29 where it grew. Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying 00:04:24.32\00:04:28.96 Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things 00:04:28.99\00:04:33.59 mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to 00:04:33.63\00:04:36.83 Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes 00:04:36.86\00:04:40.50 thereof, and led them with him to Babylon; and hath taken of 00:04:40.53\00:04:44.13 the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath 00:04:44.17\00:04:46.90 taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the 00:04:46.94\00:04:50.38 land: that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift 00:04:50.42\00:04:54.32 itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand. 00:04:54.36\00:04:58.01 But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into 00:04:58.04\00:05:01.66 Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall 00:05:01.69\00:05:06.00 he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he 00:05:06.04\00:05:10.31 break the covenant, and be delivered? As I live, saith the 00:05:10.35\00:05:14.19 Lord God, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that 00:05:14.23\00:05:18.06 made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he 00:05:18.10\00:05:22.48 brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die. 00:05:22.51\00:05:26.41 Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company 00:05:26.45\00:05:30.31 make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building 00:05:30.34\00:05:35.05 forts, to cut off many persons: seeing he despised the oath by 00:05:35.09\00:05:39.50 breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath 00:05:39.54\00:05:44.54 done all these things, he shall not escape. Therefore thus saith 00:05:44.58\00:05:49.36 the Lord God; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, 00:05:49.39\00:05:54.14 and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will 00:05:54.17\00:05:59.69 I recompense upon his own head. And I will spread my net upon 00:05:59.72\00:06:03.88 him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him 00:06:03.91\00:06:08.33 to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that 00:06:08.37\00:06:12.81 he hath trespassed against me. And all his fugitives with all 00:06:12.84\00:06:17.51 his bands shall fall by the sword and they that remain 00:06:17.55\00:06:21.53 shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that 00:06:21.56\00:06:25.30 I the Lord have spoken it. 00:06:25.33\00:06:26.70 Thus saith the Lord God; I will also take of 00:06:26.73\00:06:30.45 the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will 00:06:30.48\00:06:34.43 crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and 00:06:34.46\00:06:38.39 will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent: in the 00:06:38.43\00:06:42.29 mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall 00:06:42.32\00:06:45.81 bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: 00:06:45.85\00:06:49.98 and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the 00:06:50.02\00:06:54.12 shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell. 00:06:54.15\00:06:56.70 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord have 00:06:56.74\00:07:02.02 brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried 00:07:02.05\00:07:07.81 up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the 00:07:07.84\00:07:13.57 Lord have spoken and have done it. 00:07:13.61\00:07:16.35 Continuing to read in Ezekiel chapter 18 00:07:16.39\00:07:20.55 and this is the King James Version. 00:07:20.59\00:07:23.65 The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying, what mean ye, 00:07:23.69\00:07:28.90 that ye use this proverb concerning the land of 00:07:28.93\00:07:31.94 Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the 00:07:31.98\00:07:36.00 children's teeth are set on edge? As I live, saith the Lord 00:07:36.04\00:07:39.85 God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in 00:07:39.89\00:07:44.38 Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, 00:07:44.42\00:07:49.18 so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it 00:07:49.21\00:07:54.83 shall die. But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and 00:07:54.86\00:08:00.44 right, and hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath 00:08:00.48\00:08:04.37 lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither 00:08:04.40\00:08:07.78 hath defiled his neighbor's wife, neither hath come near to 00:08:07.82\00:08:11.33 a menstruous woman, and hath not oppressed any, but hath 00:08:11.37\00:08:14.80 restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by 00:08:14.84\00:08:18.20 violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered 00:08:18.24\00:08:23.03 the naked with a garment; He that hath not given forth upon 00:08:23.07\00:08:27.64 usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn 00:08:27.68\00:08:32.30 his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between 00:08:32.34\00:08:36.92 man and man, hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my 00:08:36.96\00:08:42.04 judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, 00:08:42.08\00:08:47.23 saith the Lord God. If he beget a son that is a robber, 00:08:47.26\00:08:52.25 a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of 00:08:52.29\00:08:57.20 these things, and that doeth not any of those duties, but even 00:08:57.24\00:09:00.61 hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor's wife, 00:09:00.64\00:09:04.22 hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, 00:09:04.26\00:09:07.44 hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to 00:09:07.47\00:09:10.62 the idols, hath committed abomination, hath given forth 00:09:10.66\00:09:14.83 upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he 00:09:14.86\00:09:18.94 shall not live; he hath done all these abominations; he shall 00:09:18.98\00:09:24.47 surely die; his blood shall be upon him. Now, lo, if he beget 00:09:24.50\00:09:29.95 a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath 00:09:29.99\00:09:35.18 done, and considereth, and doeth not such like, that hath 00:09:35.21\00:09:39.54 not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes 00:09:39.57\00:09:43.13 to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his 00:09:43.17\00:09:46.73 neighbor's wife, neither hath oppressed any, hath not 00:09:46.77\00:09:50.26 withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but 00:09:50.30\00:09:53.93 hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the 00:09:53.97\00:09:57.54 naked with a garment, that hath taken off his hand from the poor 00:09:57.57\00:10:00.84 that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my 00:10:00.88\00:10:05.21 judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for 00:10:05.25\00:10:09.97 the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. As for his 00:10:10.00\00:10:14.46 father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother 00:10:14.49\00:10:18.53 by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, 00:10:18.56\00:10:22.56 lo, even he shall die in his iniquity. Yet say ye, Why? 00:10:22.60\00:10:28.97 doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the 00:10:29.00\00:10:33.86 son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept 00:10:33.90\00:10:38.06 all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 00:10:38.09\00:10:42.18 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the 00:10:42.21\00:10:48.97 iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the 00:10:49.00\00:10:52.23 iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous 00:10:52.26\00:10:55.90 shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall 00:10:55.93\00:10:59.50 be upon him. But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that 00:10:59.53\00:11:04.96 he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which 00:11:05.00\00:11:09.96 is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 00:11:09.99\00:11:14.65 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not 00:11:14.68\00:11:19.24 be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done 00:11:19.27\00:11:23.97 he shall live. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked 00:11:24.00\00:11:28.35 should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return 00:11:28.38\00:11:32.84 from his ways, and live? But when the righteous turneth away 00:11:32.88\00:11:36.39 from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth 00:11:36.42\00:11:39.90 according to all the abominations that the 00:11:39.93\00:11:41.95 wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he 00:11:41.99\00:11:46.72 hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass 00:11:46.76\00:11:50.02 that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in 00:11:50.06\00:11:54.57 them shall he die. Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not 00:11:54.60\00:12:00.55 equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? 00:12:00.59\00:12:06.52 are not your ways unequal? When a righteous man turneth away 00:12:06.56\00:12:10.99 from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth 00:12:11.03\00:12:15.32 in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 00:12:15.36\00:12:19.62 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his 00:12:19.66\00:12:22.74 wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which 00:12:22.77\00:12:25.70 is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he 00:12:25.73\00:12:30.30 considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions 00:12:30.34\00:12:34.83 that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 00:12:34.87\00:12:38.38 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not 00:12:38.42\00:12:44.08 equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your 00:12:44.11\00:12:49.20 ways unequal? Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, 00:12:49.24\00:12:54.57 every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and 00:12:54.60\00:12:59.89 turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity 00:12:59.93\00:13:03.95 shall not be your ruin. Cast away from you all your 00:13:03.99\00:13:07.68 transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new 00:13:07.71\00:13:11.99 heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 00:13:12.03\00:13:16.48 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith 00:13:16.51\00:13:20.93 the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. 00:13:20.96\00:13:25.59 Continuing with Ezekiel chapter 19. 00:13:25.63\00:13:30.89 Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of 00:13:30.93\00:13:35.89 Israel, and say, what is thy mother? A lioness: she lay down 00:13:35.92\00:13:39.81 among lions, she nourished her whelps among young lions. 00:13:39.85\00:13:43.67 And she brought up one of her whelps: it became a young lion, 00:13:43.70\00:13:47.75 and it learned to catch the prey; it devoured men. 00:13:47.78\00:13:50.97 The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit, and 00:13:51.01\00:13:55.10 they brought him with chains unto the land of Egypt. Now when 00:13:55.13\00:13:58.97 she way that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she 00:13:59.00\00:14:02.77 took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion. And he 00:14:02.80\00:14:05.93 went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion, 00:14:05.96\00:14:09.26 and learned to catch the prey, and devoured men. And he knew 00:14:09.29\00:14:12.74 their desolate palaces, and he laid waste their cities; and the 00:14:12.77\00:14:16.18 land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, by the noise 00:14:16.22\00:14:19.01 of his roaring. Then the nations set against him on every side 00:14:19.05\00:14:23.14 from the provinces, and spread their net over him: he was taken 00:14:23.18\00:14:27.24 in their pit. And they put him in ward in chains, and brought 00:14:27.28\00:14:31.14 him to the king of Babylon: they brought him into holds, that his 00:14:31.18\00:14:35.00 voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel. 00:14:35.04\00:14:39.24
