Hello and welcome to "His Words Are Life." 00:00:14.79\00:00:17.18 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're reading 00:00:17.19\00:00:19.12 from the book of Lamentations. 00:00:19.13\00:00:20.96 Let's us pray together before we start. 00:00:20.97\00:00:23.65 Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word 00:00:23.66\00:00:27.08 that You have kept for us 00:00:27.09\00:00:29.58 and how You have brought us to this time to hear it. 00:00:29.59\00:00:33.24 Please send your Holy Spirit now 00:00:33.25\00:00:34.79 to guide our ears as we listen. 00:00:34.80\00:00:37.14 We love You and thank You for loving us, amen. 00:00:37.15\00:00:40.55 I'm reading in Lamentations, Chapter 2 00:00:40.56\00:00:44.02 beginning with verse 11 and this is the King James Version. 00:00:44.03\00:00:48.93 "Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled, 00:00:48.94\00:00:53.64 my liver is poured upon the earth, 00:00:53.65\00:00:55.66 for the destruction of the daughter of my people, 00:00:55.67\00:00:58.67 because the children and the suckling swoon 00:00:58.68\00:01:00.79 in the streets of the city. 00:01:00.80\00:01:02.62 They say to their mothers, where is corn and wine? 00:01:02.63\00:01:06.36 When they swooned as the wounded 00:01:06.37\00:01:08.56 in the streets of the city, 00:01:08.57\00:01:09.56 when their soul was poured out into their mothers' bosom. 00:01:09.57\00:01:12.87 What thing shall I take to witness for thee? 00:01:12.88\00:01:15.58 What thing shall I liken to thee, 00:01:15.59\00:01:17.33 O daughter of Jerusalem? 00:01:17.34\00:01:18.92 What shall I equal to thee, 00:01:18.93\00:01:20.69 that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? 00:01:20.70\00:01:23.64 For thy breach is great like the sea, who can heal thee? 00:01:23.65\00:01:27.42 Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee, 00:01:27.43\00:01:31.17 and they have not discovered thine iniquity, 00:01:31.18\00:01:32.96 to turn away thy captivity, 00:01:32.97\00:01:34.82 but have seen for thee false burdens 00:01:34.83\00:01:37.57 and causes of banishment. 00:01:37.58\00:01:40.08 All that pass by clap their hands at thee, 00:01:40.09\00:01:42.22 they hiss and wag their head 00:01:42.23\00:01:43.70 at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, 00:01:43.71\00:01:45.68 Is this the city that men call, 00:01:45.69\00:01:47.10 The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? 00:01:47.11\00:01:50.15 All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee, 00:01:50.16\00:01:52.91 they hiss and gnash the teeth. 00:01:52.92\00:01:54.60 They say, "We have swallowed her up." 00:01:54.61\00:01:57.21 Certainly this is the day that we looked for, 00:01:57.22\00:02:00.08 we have found, we have seen it. 00:02:00.09\00:02:03.26 The Lord hath done that which he had devised. 00:02:03.27\00:02:06.38 He hath fulfilled his word 00:02:06.39\00:02:07.89 that he had commanded in the days of old. 00:02:07.90\00:02:10.15 He hath thrown down, and hath not pitied, 00:02:10.16\00:02:12.24 and He hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee. 00:02:12.25\00:02:15.38 He hath set up the horn of thine adversaries. 00:02:15.39\00:02:18.60 Their heart cried unto the Lord, 00:02:18.61\00:02:20.49 O wall of the daughter of Zion, 00:02:20.50\00:02:22.67 let tears run down like a river day and night, 00:02:22.68\00:02:26.14 give thyself no rest, 00:02:26.15\00:02:28.26 let not the apple of thine eye cease. 00:02:28.27\00:02:31.14 Arise, cry out in the night, 00:02:31.15\00:02:33.84 in the beginning of the watches 00:02:33.85\00:02:35.78 pour out thine heart like water 00:02:35.79\00:02:38.04 before the face of the Lord. 00:02:38.05\00:02:39.94 Lift up thy hands toward him 00:02:39.95\00:02:41.72 for the life of thy young children, 00:02:41.73\00:02:43.68 that faint for hunger in the top of every street. 00:02:43.69\00:02:47.42 Behold, O Lord, and consider to whom thou hast done this. 00:02:47.43\00:02:53.17 Shall the women eat their fruit, 00:02:53.18\00:02:55.27 and children of a span long? 00:02:55.28\00:02:57.38 Shall the priest and the prophet be slain 00:02:57.39\00:03:00.10 in the sanctuary of the Lord? 00:03:00.11\00:03:01.76 The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets, 00:03:01.77\00:03:05.62 my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword. 00:03:05.63\00:03:09.01 Thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger, 00:03:09.02\00:03:10.89 thou hast killed, and not pitied. 00:03:10.90\00:03:13.33 thou hast called as in a solemn day 00:03:13.34\00:03:16.33 my terrors round about, 00:03:16.34\00:03:18.09 so that in the day of the Lord's anger 00:03:18.10\00:03:20.19 none escaped nor remained. 00:03:20.20\00:03:22.90 Those that I have swaddled 00:03:22.91\00:03:24.45 and brought up hath mine enemy consumed." 00:03:24.46\00:03:28.43 Continuing in Lamentations Chapter 3, 00:03:28.44\00:03:31.77 this is the King James Version. 00:03:31.78\00:03:34.52 "I am the man that hath seen affliction 00:03:34.53\00:03:37.02 by the rod of his wrath. 00:03:37.03\00:03:39.32 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, 00:03:39.33\00:03:41.88 but not into light. 00:03:41.89\00:03:43.79 Surely against me is He turned, 00:03:43.80\00:03:46.28 He turneth His hand against me all the day. 00:03:46.29\00:03:49.26 My flesh and my skin hath He made old, 00:03:49.27\00:03:51.69 He hath broken my bones. 00:03:51.70\00:03:53.72 He hath builded against me, 00:03:53.73\00:03:55.25 and compassed me with gall and travail. 00:03:55.26\00:03:58.11 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old. 00:03:58.12\00:04:02.82 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out. 00:04:02.83\00:04:05.83 He hath made my chain heavy. 00:04:05.84\00:04:08.21 Also when I cry and shout, He shutteth out my prayer. 00:04:08.22\00:04:12.35 He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone. 00:04:12.36\00:04:16.19 He hath made my paths crooked. 00:04:16.20\00:04:18.08 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, 00:04:18.09\00:04:20.63 and as a lion in secret places. 00:04:20.64\00:04:23.14 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces, 00:04:23.15\00:04:25.84 he hath made me desolate. 00:04:25.85\00:04:27.80 He hath bent His bow, 00:04:27.81\00:04:29.08 and set me as a mark for the arrow. 00:04:29.09\00:04:31.48 He hath caused the arrows 00:04:31.49\00:04:32.89 of His quiver to enter into my reins. 00:04:32.90\00:04:35.96 I was a derision to all my people, 00:04:35.97\00:04:38.91 and their song all the day. 00:04:38.92\00:04:40.86 He hath filled me with bitterness, 00:04:40.87\00:04:42.81 he hath made me drunken with wormwood. 00:04:42.82\00:04:45.62 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, 00:04:45.63\00:04:48.49 he hath covered me with ashes. 00:04:48.50\00:04:52.19 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace, 00:04:52.20\00:04:55.57 I forgat prosperity. 00:04:55.58\00:04:57.79 And I said, My strength 00:04:57.80\00:04:59.42 and my hope is perished from the Lord. 00:04:59.43\00:05:02.21 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, 00:05:02.22\00:05:05.89 the wormwood and the gall. 00:05:05.90\00:05:07.87 My soul hath them still in remembrance, 00:05:07.88\00:05:11.35 and is humbled in me. 00:05:11.36\00:05:13.93 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 00:05:13.94\00:05:18.82 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, 00:05:18.83\00:05:22.37 because His compassions fail not. 00:05:22.38\00:05:25.46 They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness. 00:05:25.47\00:05:30.08 The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, 00:05:30.09\00:05:33.17 therefore will I hope in Him. 00:05:33.18\00:05:35.58 The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, 00:05:35.59\00:05:38.37 to the soul that seeketh Him. 00:05:38.38\00:05:41.12 It is good that a man should both hope 00:05:41.13\00:05:44.67 and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. 00:05:44.68\00:05:49.11 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. 00:05:49.12\00:05:52.88 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, 00:05:52.89\00:05:54.99 because he hath borne it upon him. 00:05:55.00\00:05:57.25 He putteth his mouth in the dust, 00:05:57.26\00:06:00.11 if so be there may be hope. 00:06:00.12\00:06:03.16 He giveth his cheek to Him that smiteth Him, 00:06:03.17\00:06:06.07 He is filled full with reproach. 00:06:06.08\00:06:08.88 For the Lord will not cast off for ever. 00:06:08.89\00:06:12.80 But though he cause grief, 00:06:12.81\00:06:15.06 yet will he have compassion 00:06:15.07\00:06:17.73 according to the multitude of his mercies. 00:06:17.74\00:06:20.84 For he doth not afflict willingly 00:06:20.85\00:06:23.04 nor grieve the children of men. 00:06:23.05\00:06:25.03 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth. 00:06:25.04\00:06:27.83 To turn aside the right of a man 00:06:27.84\00:06:29.76 before the face of the most High. 00:06:29.77\00:06:31.09 To subvert a man in his cause, 00:06:31.10\00:06:33.60 the Lord approveth not. 00:06:33.61\00:06:36.67 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, 00:06:36.68\00:06:39.77 when the Lord commandeth it not? 00:06:39.78\00:06:43.29 Out of the mouth of the Most High 00:06:43.30\00:06:45.87 proceedeth not evil and good? 00:06:45.88\00:06:48.81 Wherefore doth a living man complain, 00:06:48.82\00:06:51.57 a man for the punishment of his sins? 00:06:51.58\00:06:54.58 Let us search and try our ways, 00:06:54.59\00:06:57.76 and turn again to the Lord. 00:06:57.77\00:07:00.06 Let us lift up our heart with our hands 00:07:00.07\00:07:02.73 unto God in the heavens. 00:07:02.74\00:07:05.05 We have transgressed and have rebelled, 00:07:05.06\00:07:07.95 thou hast not pardoned. 00:07:07.96\00:07:09.96 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us, 00:07:09.97\00:07:12.86 thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied. 00:07:12.87\00:07:16.46 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, 00:07:16.47\00:07:18.07 that our prayer should not pass through. 00:07:18.08\00:07:20.22 Thou hast made us as the offscouring 00:07:20.23\00:07:22.87 and refuse in the midst of the people. 00:07:22.88\00:07:25.50 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us. 00:07:25.51\00:07:28.59 Fear and a snare is come upon us, 00:07:28.60\00:07:31.39 desolation and destruction. 00:07:31.40\00:07:33.87 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water 00:07:33.88\00:07:36.30 for the destruction of the daughter of my people. 00:07:36.31\00:07:39.44 Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, 00:07:39.45\00:07:42.21 without any intermission. 00:07:42.22\00:07:44.19 Till the Lord look down, and behold from heaven. 00:07:44.20\00:07:48.18 Mine eye affecteth mine heart 00:07:48.19\00:07:50.13 because of all the daughters of my city. 00:07:50.14\00:07:52.73 Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause. 00:07:52.74\00:07:56.85 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, 00:07:56.86\00:07:58.93 and cast a stone upon me. 00:07:58.94\00:08:01.53 Waters flowed over mine head, then I said, I am cut off. 00:08:01.54\00:08:07.28 I called upon thy name, O Lord out of the low dungeon. 00:08:07.29\00:08:12.46 Thou hast heard my voice, 00:08:12.47\00:08:14.14 hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. 00:08:14.15\00:08:18.32 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee, 00:08:18.33\00:08:21.25 thou saidst, Fear not. 00:08:21.26\00:08:23.42 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul, 00:08:23.43\00:08:27.75 thou hast redeemed my life. 00:08:27.76\00:08:30.22 O Lord, thou hast seen my wrong, 00:08:30.23\00:08:32.61 judge thou my cause. 00:08:32.62\00:08:34.27 Thou hast seen all their vengeance 00:08:34.28\00:08:36.79 and all their imaginations against me. 00:08:36.80\00:08:39.25 Thou hast heard their reproach, O Lord, 00:08:39.26\00:08:41.70 and all their imaginations against me. 00:08:41.71\00:08:43.82 The lips of those that rose up against me, 00:08:43.83\00:08:46.53 and their device against me all the day. 00:08:46.54\00:08:49.92 Behold their sitting down, 00:08:49.93\00:08:51.71 and their rising up, I am their musick. 00:08:51.72\00:08:54.94 Render unto them a recompence, O Lord, 00:08:54.95\00:08:56.96 according to the work of their hands. 00:08:56.97\00:08:58.32 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse upon them. 00:08:58.33\00:09:01.88 Persecute and destroy them in anger 00:09:01.89\00:09:04.30 from under the heavens of the Lord." 00:09:04.31\00:09:07.05 Continuing in the Book of Lamentations, Chapter 4 00:09:07.06\00:09:10.09 and this is the King James Version. 00:09:10.10\00:09:13.31 How is the gold become dim! 00:09:13.32\00:09:16.23 How is the most fine gold changed! 00:09:16.24\00:09:19.30 The stones of the sanctuary 00:09:19.31\00:09:20.82 are poured out in the top of every street. 00:09:20.83\00:09:23.42 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, 00:09:23.43\00:09:26.74 how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, 00:09:26.75\00:09:29.57 the work of the hands of the potter! 00:09:29.58\00:09:32.52 Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, 00:09:32.53\00:09:35.17 they give suck to their young ones. 00:09:35.18\00:09:37.42 The daughter of my people is become cruel, 00:09:37.43\00:09:39.84 like the ostriches in the wilderness. 00:09:39.85\00:09:42.47 The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth 00:09:42.48\00:09:45.01 to the roof of his mouth for thirst, 00:09:45.02\00:09:47.22 the young children ask bread, 00:09:47.23\00:09:48.39 and no man breaketh it unto them. 00:09:48.40\00:09:50.79 They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets. 00:09:50.80\00:09:55.85 They that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills. 00:09:55.86\00:10:00.68 For the punishment of the iniquity 00:10:00.69\00:10:02.20 of the daughter of my people is greater 00:10:02.21\00:10:04.43 than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, 00:10:04.44\00:10:06.41 that was overthrown as in a moment, 00:10:06.42\00:10:08.83 and no hands stayed on her. 00:10:08.84\00:10:11.29 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, 00:10:11.30\00:10:13.49 they were whiter than milk, 00:10:13.50\00:10:15.15 they were more ruddy in body than rubies, 00:10:15.16\00:10:17.85 their polishing was of sapphire. 00:10:17.86\00:10:20.45 Their visage is blacker than a coal. 00:10:20.46\00:10:22.17 They are not known in the streets. 00:10:22.18\00:10:24.22 Their skin cleaveth to their bones, 00:10:24.23\00:10:26.55 it is withered, it is become like a stick. 00:10:26.56\00:10:30.54 They that be slain with the sword 00:10:30.55\00:10:32.16 are better than they that be slain with hunger, 00:10:32.17\00:10:34.81 for these pine away, stricken through 00:10:34.82\00:10:37.73 for want of the fruits of the field. 00:10:37.74\00:10:40.32 The hands of the pitiful women 00:10:40.33\00:10:42.01 have sodden their own children, 00:10:42.02\00:10:44.36 they were their meat in the destruction 00:10:44.37\00:10:45.94 of the daughter of my people. 00:10:45.95\00:10:48.75 The Lord hath accomplished his fury. 00:10:48.76\00:10:51.25 He hath poured out His fierce anger, 00:10:51.26\00:10:52.93 and hath kindled a fire in Zion, 00:10:52.94\00:10:54.96 and it hath devoured the foundations thereof. 00:10:54.97\00:10:57.96 The kings of the earth, 00:10:57.97\00:10:59.36 and all the inhabitants of the world, 00:10:59.37\00:11:01.31 would not have believed that the adversary 00:11:01.32\00:11:03.71 and the enemy should have entered 00:11:03.72\00:11:04.76 into the gates of Jerusalem. 00:11:04.77\00:11:07.12 For the sins of her prophets, 00:11:07.13\00:11:09.00 and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed 00:11:09.01\00:11:11.21 the blood of the just in the midst of her. 00:11:11.22\00:11:14.92 They have wandered as blind men in the streets, 00:11:14.93\00:11:17.46 they have polluted themselves with blood, 00:11:17.47\00:11:19.29 so that men could not touch their garments. 00:11:19.30\00:11:21.31 They cried unto them, 00:11:21.32\00:11:22.42 Depart ye, it is unclean, depart, depart, touch not, 00:11:22.43\00:11:26.37 when they fled away and wandered, 00:11:26.38\00:11:28.47 they said among the heathen. 00:11:28.48\00:11:30.08 They shall no more sojourn there. 00:11:30.09\00:11:33.23 The anger of the Lord hath divided them. 00:11:33.24\00:11:35.87 He will no more regard them. 00:11:35.88\00:11:38.38 They respected not the persons of the priests, 00:11:38.39\00:11:40.89 they favored not the elders. 00:11:40.90\00:11:43.34 As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help, 00:11:43.35\00:11:48.10 in our watching we have watched 00:11:48.11\00:11:49.93 for a nation that could not save us. 00:11:49.94\00:11:53.17 They hunt our steps, that we cannot go 00:11:53.18\00:11:55.21 in our streets, our end is near, 00:11:55.22\00:11:58.33 our days are fulfilled, for our end is come. 00:11:58.34\00:12:02.19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven, 00:12:02.20\00:12:06.05 they pursued us upon the mountains, 00:12:06.06\00:12:07.59 they laid wait for us in the wilderness. 00:12:07.60\00:12:10.08 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, 00:12:10.09\00:12:13.30 was taken in their pits, of whom we said, 00:12:13.31\00:12:16.17 under His shadow we shall live among the heathen. 00:12:16.18\00:12:20.24 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, 00:12:20.25\00:12:23.05 that dwellest in the land of Uz. 00:12:23.06\00:12:25.29 The cup also shall pass through unto thee, 00:12:25.30\00:12:27.35 thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked. 00:12:27.36\00:12:29.95 The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, 00:12:29.96\00:12:32.60 O daughter of Zion. 00:12:32.61\00:12:34.26 He will no more carry thee away into captivity. 00:12:34.27\00:12:37.47 He will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom. 00:12:37.48\00:12:40.63 He will discover thy sins." 00:12:40.64\00:12:44.03 Continuing in Lamentations, Chapter 5, 00:12:44.04\00:12:46.53 and this is the King James Version. 00:12:46.54\00:12:49.57 Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us, 00:12:49.58\00:12:52.26 consider, and behold our reproach. 00:12:52.27\00:12:55.59 Our inheritance is turned 00:12:55.60\00:12:56.82 to strangers, our houses to aliens. 00:12:56.83\00:12:58.99 We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. 00:12:59.00\00:13:03.37 We have drunken our water for money, 00:13:03.38\00:13:05.51 our wood is sold unto us. 00:13:05.52\00:13:07.67 Our necks are under persecution, 00:13:07.68\00:13:09.79 we labour, and have no rest. 00:13:09.80\00:13:13.43 We have given the hand to the Egyptians, 00:13:13.44\00:13:15.65 and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. 00:13:15.66\00:13:18.68 Our fathers have sinned, and are not, 00:13:18.69\00:13:20.99 and we have borne their iniquities. 00:13:21.00\00:13:22.73 Servants have ruled over us 00:13:22.74\00:13:24.87 there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand. 00:13:24.88\00:13:28.23 We gat our bread with the peril of our lives 00:13:28.24\00:13:30.94 because of the sword of the wilderness. 00:13:30.95\00:13:33.21 Our skin was black like an oven 00:13:33.22\00:13:35.26 because of the terrible famine. 00:13:35.27\00:13:37.07 They ravished the women in Zion, 00:13:37.08\00:13:38.72 and the maids in the cities of Judah. 00:13:38.73\00:13:41.16 Princes are hanged up by their hand, 00:13:41.17\00:13:43.12 the faces of elders were not honored. 00:13:43.13\00:13:45.62 They took the young men to grind, 00:13:45.63\00:13:47.66 and the children fell under the wood. 00:13:47.67\00:13:49.76 The elders have ceased from the gate, 00:13:49.77\00:13:52.23 the young men from their musick. 00:13:52.24\00:13:54.35 The joy of our heart is ceased, 00:13:54.36\00:13:55.82 our dance is turned into mourning. 00:13:55.83\00:13:58.24 The crown is fallen from our head, 00:13:58.25\00:14:00.74 woe unto us, that we have sinned! 00:14:00.75\00:14:03.99 For this our heart is faint, 00:14:04.00\00:14:05.48 for these things our eyes are dim. 00:14:05.49\00:14:08.28 Because of the mountain of Zion, 00:14:08.29\00:14:09.98 which is desolate, the foxes walk upon it. 00:14:09.99\00:14:13.03 Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever, 00:14:13.04\00:14:16.21 thy throne from generation to generation. 00:14:16.22\00:14:18.52 Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, 00:14:18.53\00:14:20.37 and forsake us so long time? 00:14:20.38\00:14:23.56 Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, 00:14:23.57\00:14:26.56 and we shall be turned, renew our days as of old. 00:14:26.57\00:14:31.80 But thou hast utterly rejected us, 00:14:31.81\00:14:34.43 thou art very wroth against us." 00:14:34.44\00:14:37.99 Please join me
