Hello and welcome back to "His Words Are Life." 00:00:15.47\00:00:17.83 I am Kelly Mowrer and today we are going 00:00:17.84\00:00:19.33 to be reading together in the Book of Isaiah. 00:00:19.34\00:00:22.29 But before we start let's pray. 00:00:22.30\00:00:25.02 Dear God, thank you so much for an opportunity 00:00:25.03\00:00:27.83 to hear the words that You spoke 00:00:27.84\00:00:31.01 so many thousands of years ago through Your prophet. 00:00:31.02\00:00:34.48 And as we read about them please show us today 00:00:34.49\00:00:36.87 where we like Jerusalem and Judah 00:00:36.88\00:00:39.24 have turned away from you 00:00:39.25\00:00:40.68 and where you are calling us back to Yourself. 00:00:40.69\00:00:43.54 Thank you, for loving us and for searching for us. 00:00:43.55\00:00:46.56 Help us to look for You with our whole heart, amen. 00:00:46.57\00:00:50.59 We're reading in Isaiah, Chapter 3 00:00:50.60\00:00:53.52 and we're picking up in verse 19, 00:00:53.53\00:00:56.14 where God has pronounced and is pronouncing 00:00:56.15\00:00:59.37 that the day is coming when He is going 00:00:59.38\00:01:01.41 to take away the pride of the people 00:01:01.42\00:01:04.47 who have turned their backs on Him. 00:01:04.48\00:01:06.37 So let's pick up in verse 19 of Isaiah, Chapter 3. 00:01:06.38\00:01:10.84 "The chains, and the bracelets, 00:01:10.85\00:01:12.96 and the mufflers, the bonnets, 00:01:12.97\00:01:15.25 and the ornaments of the legs, 00:01:15.26\00:01:16.56 and the headbands, and the tablets, 00:01:16.57\00:01:18.14 and the earrings, the rings, and nose jewels, 00:01:18.15\00:01:21.88 the changeable suits of apparel, 00:01:21.89\00:01:23.80 and the mantles, and the wimples, 00:01:23.81\00:01:25.18 and the crisping pins, the glasses, 00:01:25.19\00:01:27.83 and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the veils. 00:01:27.84\00:01:32.22 And it shall come to pass, 00:01:32.23\00:01:33.96 that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink, 00:01:33.97\00:01:38.08 and instead of a girdle a rent, 00:01:38.09\00:01:41.82 and instead of well set hair baldness, 00:01:41.83\00:01:46.12 and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth, 00:01:46.13\00:01:50.59 and burning instead of beauty. 00:01:50.60\00:01:54.40 Thy men shall fall by the sword, 00:01:54.41\00:01:57.24 and thy mighty in the war. 00:01:57.25\00:02:00.05 And her gates shall lament and mourn, 00:02:00.06\00:02:03.24 and she being desolate shall sit upon the ground." 00:02:03.25\00:02:08.43 Continuing in the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 4, 00:02:08.44\00:02:10.52 and this is the King James Version. 00:02:10.53\00:02:13.48 "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, 00:02:13.49\00:02:16.19 saying, we will eat our own bread, 00:02:16.20\00:02:18.48 and wear our own apparel, 00:02:18.49\00:02:19.83 only let us be called by thy name, 00:02:19.84\00:02:21.56 to take away our reproach. 00:02:21.57\00:02:24.12 In that day shall the branch of the Lord 00:02:24.13\00:02:26.46 be beautiful and glorious, 00:02:26.47\00:02:27.82 and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent 00:02:27.83\00:02:29.51 and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. 00:02:29.52\00:02:34.36 And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, 00:02:34.37\00:02:38.41 and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, 00:02:38.42\00:02:40.67 shall be called holy, even every one 00:02:40.68\00:02:43.01 that is written among the living in Jerusalem. 00:02:43.02\00:02:46.74 When the Lord shall have washed away 00:02:46.75\00:02:48.50 the filth of the daughters of Zion, 00:02:48.51\00:02:50.50 and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem 00:02:50.51\00:02:53.15 from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, 00:02:53.16\00:02:55.53 and by the spirit of burning. 00:02:55.54\00:02:57.57 And the Lord will create 00:02:57.58\00:02:58.55 upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, 00:02:58.56\00:03:00.64 and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, 00:03:00.65\00:03:03.64 and the shining of a flaming fire by night, 00:03:03.65\00:03:06.84 for upon all the glory shall be a defense. 00:03:06.85\00:03:09.49 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow 00:03:09.50\00:03:12.02 in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, 00:03:12.03\00:03:16.40 and for a covert from storm and from rain." 00:03:16.41\00:03:20.64 Continuing in Isaiah, Chapter 5, 00:03:20.65\00:03:22.81 and this is the King James Version. 00:03:22.82\00:03:25.73 "Now will I sing to my wellbeloved 00:03:25.74\00:03:29.25 a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. 00:03:29.26\00:03:33.22 My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill. 00:03:33.23\00:03:37.60 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, 00:03:37.61\00:03:40.25 and planted it with the choicest vine, 00:03:40.26\00:03:43.01 and built a tower in the midst of it, 00:03:43.02\00:03:44.70 and also made a winepress therein, 00:03:44.71\00:03:46.41 and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, 00:03:46.42\00:03:50.29 and it brought forth wild grapes. 00:03:50.30\00:03:53.10 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, 00:03:53.11\00:03:54.97 and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, 00:03:54.98\00:03:57.83 betwixt me and my vineyard. 00:03:57.84\00:04:00.51 What could have been done more to my vineyard, 00:04:00.52\00:04:03.72 that I have not done in it? 00:04:03.73\00:04:05.83 Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, 00:04:05.84\00:04:09.18 brought it forth wild grapes? 00:04:09.19\00:04:11.91 And now go to, I will tell you 00:04:11.92\00:04:13.77 what I will do to my vineyard, 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.56 I will take away the hedge thereof, 00:04:15.57\00:04:17.75 and it shall be eaten up, 00:04:17.76\00:04:19.70 and break down the wall thereof, 00:04:19.71\00:04:21.24 and it shall be trodden down. 00:04:21.25\00:04:23.24 And I will lay it waste, it shall not be pruned, 00:04:23.25\00:04:26.92 nor digged, but there shall come up briers and thorns, 00:04:26.93\00:04:31.01 I will also command the clouds 00:04:31.02\00:04:32.86 that they rain no rain upon it. 00:04:32.87\00:04:35.91 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts 00:04:35.92\00:04:38.27 is the house of Israel, 00:04:38.28\00:04:40.05 and the men of Judah his pleasant plant. 00:04:40.06\00:04:43.17 And he looked for judgment, but behold oppression, 00:04:43.18\00:04:48.56 for righteousness, but behold a cry. 00:04:48.57\00:04:53.41 Woe unto them that join house to house, 00:04:53.42\00:04:57.02 that lay field to field, till there be no place 00:04:57.03\00:05:00.73 that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth! 00:05:00.74\00:05:04.27 In mine ears said the Lord of hosts, 00:05:04.28\00:05:06.53 of a truth many houses shall be desolate, 00:05:06.54\00:05:09.28 even great and fair, without inhabitant. 00:05:09.29\00:05:13.18 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, 00:05:13.19\00:05:16.32 and the seed of an homer shall yield an ephah. 00:05:16.33\00:05:20.09 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, 00:05:20.10\00:05:22.87 that they may follow strong drink, 00:05:22.88\00:05:25.44 that continue until night, till wine inflame them! 00:05:25.45\00:05:28.23 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, 00:05:28.24\00:05:31.16 and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts, 00:05:31.17\00:05:34.47 but they regard not the work of the Lord, 00:05:34.48\00:05:37.33 neither consider the operation of his hands. 00:05:37.34\00:05:40.60 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, 00:05:40.61\00:05:42.86 because they have no knowledge, 00:05:42.87\00:05:45.29 and their honorable men are famished, 00:05:45.30\00:05:47.42 and their multitude dried up with thirst. 00:05:47.43\00:05:51.10 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, 00:05:51.11\00:05:53.90 and opened to her mouth without measure 00:05:53.91\00:05:56.34 and their glory, and their multitude, 00:05:56.35\00:05:59.28 and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, 00:05:59.29\00:06:02.51 shall descend into it. 00:06:02.52\00:06:05.58 And the mean man shall be brought down, 00:06:05.59\00:06:07.64 and the mighty man shall be humbled, 00:06:07.65\00:06:10.14 and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled. 00:06:10.15\00:06:12.33 But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, 00:06:12.34\00:06:15.61 and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness. 00:06:15.62\00:06:21.27 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, 00:06:21.28\00:06:23.86 and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat 00:06:23.87\00:06:28.49 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, 00:06:28.50\00:06:32.71 and sin as it were with a cart rope that say, 00:06:32.72\00:06:37.32 Let him make speed, and hasten his work, 00:06:37.33\00:06:39.46 that we may see it, and let the counsel 00:06:39.47\00:06:42.46 of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, 00:06:42.47\00:06:46.08 that we may know it. 00:06:46.09\00:06:48.17 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil 00:06:48.18\00:06:53.15 that put darkness for light, and light for darkness 00:06:53.16\00:06:56.79 that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 00:06:56.80\00:07:02.00 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, 00:07:02.01\00:07:06.93 and prudent in their own sight! 00:07:06.94\00:07:10.04 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, 00:07:10.05\00:07:13.23 and men of strength to mingle strong drink 00:07:13.24\00:07:15.74 which justify the wicked for reward, 00:07:15.75\00:07:17.87 and take away the righteousness 00:07:17.88\00:07:19.03 of the righteous from him! 00:07:19.04\00:07:21.91 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, 00:07:21.92\00:07:24.84 and the flame consumeth the chaff, 00:07:24.85\00:07:27.94 so their root shall be as rottenness, 00:07:27.95\00:07:30.49 and their blossom shall go up as dust 00:07:30.50\00:07:33.37 because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, 00:07:33.38\00:07:36.49 and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 00:07:36.50\00:07:41.06 Therefore is the anger of the Lord 00:07:41.07\00:07:43.04 kindled against his people, 00:07:43.05\00:07:44.89 and he hath stretched forth His hand against them, 00:07:44.90\00:07:47.18 and hath smitten them and the hills did tremble, 00:07:47.19\00:07:50.79 and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. 00:07:50.80\00:07:54.58 For all this his anger is not turned away, 00:07:54.59\00:07:57.67 but his hand is stretched out still. 00:07:57.68\00:08:01.54 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, 00:08:01.55\00:08:04.95 and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth 00:08:04.96\00:08:06.70 and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly. 00:08:06.71\00:08:11.24 None shall be weary nor stumble among them 00:08:11.25\00:08:13.27 none shall slumber nor sleep, 00:08:13.28\00:08:14.90 neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, 00:08:14.91\00:08:17.28 nor the latchet of their shoes be broken. 00:08:17.29\00:08:20.08 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, 00:08:20.09\00:08:23.55 their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, 00:08:23.56\00:08:26.12 and their wheels like a whirlwind. 00:08:26.13\00:08:28.58 Their roaring shall be like a lion, 00:08:28.59\00:08:30.60 and they shall roar like young lions 00:08:30.61\00:08:32.44 yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, 00:08:32.45\00:08:34.78 and shall carry it away safe, 00:08:34.79\00:08:36.70 and none shall deliver it. 00:08:36.71\00:08:39.46 And in that day they shall roar against them 00:08:39.47\00:08:42.21 like the roaring of the sea 00:08:42.22\00:08:44.29 and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, 00:08:44.30\00:08:49.73 and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof." 00:08:49.74\00:08:54.30 We're continuing with the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 6, 00:08:54.31\00:08:57.01 this is the King James Version. 00:08:57.02\00:08:59.90 "In the year that king Uzziah died 00:08:59.91\00:09:02.68 I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, 00:09:02.69\00:09:07.39 high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 00:09:07.40\00:09:12.31 Above it stood the seraphims, each one had six wings 00:09:12.32\00:09:16.49 with twain he covered his face, 00:09:16.50\00:09:18.93 and with twain he covered his feet, 00:09:18.94\00:09:20.35 and with twain he did fly. 00:09:20.36\00:09:22.79 And one cried unto another, and said, 00:09:22.80\00:09:25.07 Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts 00:09:25.08\00:09:28.79 the whole earth is full of his glory. 00:09:28.80\00:09:32.58 And the posts of the door moved 00:09:32.59\00:09:34.23 at the voice of him that cried, 00:09:34.24\00:09:35.62 and the house was filled with smoke. 00:09:35.63\00:09:39.07 Then said I, Woe is me! 00:09:39.08\00:09:41.77 For I am undone because I am a man of unclean lips, 00:09:41.78\00:09:46.64 and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips 00:09:46.65\00:09:50.61 for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. 00:09:50.62\00:09:55.71 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, 00:09:55.72\00:09:58.92 having a live coal in his hand, 00:09:58.93\00:10:01.61 which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. 00:10:01.62\00:10:05.17 And he laid it upon my mouth, 00:10:05.18\00:10:07.04 and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips 00:10:07.05\00:10:11.71 and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. 00:10:11.72\00:10:16.57 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, 00:10:16.58\00:10:19.37 Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? 00:10:19.38\00:10:24.14 Then said I, Here am I, send me. 00:10:24.15\00:10:29.93 And he said, Go, and tell this people, 00:10:29.94\00:10:32.19 Hear ye indeed, but understand not 00:10:32.20\00:10:36.16 and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 00:10:36.17\00:10:39.21 Make the heart of this people fat, 00:10:39.22\00:10:40.81 and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes 00:10:40.82\00:10:43.20 lest they see with their eyes, 00:10:43.21\00:10:44.75 and hear with their ears, 00:10:44.76\00:10:46.34 and understand with their heart, 00:10:46.35\00:10:47.53 and convert, and be healed. 00:10:47.54\00:10:51.08 Then said I, Lord, how long? 00:10:51.09\00:10:54.71 And he answered, Until the cities be wasted 00:10:54.72\00:10:57.07 without inhabitant, and the houses without man, 00:10:57.08\00:11:00.59 and the land be utterly desolate. 00:11:00.60\00:11:03.15 And the Lord have removed men far away, 00:11:03.16\00:11:04.94 and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land. 00:11:04.95\00:11:07.94 But yet in it shall be a tenth, 00:11:07.95\00:11:11.41 and it shall return, and shall be eaten 00:11:11.42\00:11:14.65 as a teil tree, and as an oak, 00:11:14.66\00:11:16.63 whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves 00:11:16.64\00:11:20.50 so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof." 00:11:20.51\00:11:25.31 Continuing with Isaiah, Chapter 7, 00:11:25.32\00:11:27.29 and this is the King James Version. 00:11:27.30\00:11:30.62 "And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz 00:11:30.63\00:11:32.91 the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, 00:11:32.92\00:11:36.29 that Rezin the king of Syria, 00:11:36.30\00:11:38.26 and Pekah the son of Remaliah, 00:11:38.27\00:11:40.63 king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, 00:11:40.64\00:11:45.29 but could not prevail against it. 00:11:45.30\00:11:47.81 And it was told the house of David, 00:11:47.82\00:11:49.57 saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. 00:11:49.58\00:11:53.26 And His heart was moved, and the heart of His people, 00:11:53.27\00:11:55.87 as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind. 00:11:55.88\00:11:59.20 Then said the Lord unto Isaiah, 00:11:59.21\00:12:01.47 go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, 00:12:01.48\00:12:08.06 at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway 00:12:08.07\00:12:10.68 of the fuller's field and say unto him, 00:12:10.69\00:12:13.37 Take heed, and be quiet, 00:12:13.38\00:12:16.21 fear not, neither be fainthearted 00:12:16.22\00:12:19.51 for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, 00:12:19.52\00:12:22.95 for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, 00:12:22.96\00:12:25.10 and of the son of Remaliah. 00:12:25.11\00:12:27.19 Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, 00:12:27.20\00:12:31.31 have taken evil counsel against thee, 00:12:31.32\00:12:32.95 saying, let us go up against Judah, 00:12:32.96\00:12:34.68 and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, 00:12:34.69\00:12:37.95 and set a king in the midst of it, 00:12:37.96\00:12:39.47 even the son of Tabeal. 00:12:39.48\00:12:42.09 Thus saith the Lord God, It shall not stand, 00:12:42.10\00:12:45.73 neither shall it come to pass. 00:12:45.74\00:12:48.11 For the head of Syria is Damascus, 00:12:48.12\00:12:50.05 and the head of Damascus is Rezin 00:12:50.06\00:12:51.67 and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, 00:12:51.68\00:12:56.67 that it be not a people. 00:12:56.68\00:12:59.26 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, 00:12:59.27\00:13:00.83 and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. 00:13:00.84\00:13:04.21 If ye will not believe, 00:13:04.22\00:13:06.01 surely ye shall not be established. 00:13:06.02\00:13:08.85 Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, 00:13:08.86\00:13:11.17 saying, Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God 00:13:11.18\00:13:14.93 ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. 00:13:14.94\00:13:19.07 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, 00:13:19.08\00:13:22.13 neither will I tempt the Lord. 00:13:22.14\00:13:25.20 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David 00:13:25.21\00:13:28.68 Is it a small thing for you to weary men, 00:13:28.69\00:13:32.27 but will ye weary my God also? 00:13:32.28\00:13:35.60 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign 00:13:35.61\00:13:38.69 Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, 00:13:38.70\00:13:43.13 and shall call his name Immanuel. 00:13:43.14\00:13:45.53 Butter and honey shall he eat, 00:13:45.54\00:13:48.25 that he may know to refuse the evil, 00:13:48.26\00:13:50.72 and choose the good. 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.62 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, 00:13:52.63\00:13:55.75 and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest 00:13:55.76\00:13:58.43 shall be forsaken of both her kings. 00:13:58.44\00:14:02.08 The Lord shall bring upon thee, 00:14:02.09\00:14:03.50 and upon thy people, and upon thy father's house, 00:14:03.51\00:14:05.62 days that have not come from the day 00:14:05.63\00:14:08.15 that Ephraim departed from Judah 00:14:08.16\00:14:10.18 even the king of Assyria. 00:14:10.19\00:14:12.48 And it shall come to pass in that day, 00:14:12.49\00:14:14.50 that the Lord shall hiss for the fly 00:14:14.51\00:14:16.72 that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, 00:14:16.73\00:14:19.28 and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 00:14:19.29\00:14:22.44 And they shall come, and shall rest all of them 00:14:22.45\00:14:24.49 in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, 00:14:24.50\00:14:27.53 and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes. 00:14:27.54\00:14:30.01 In the same day shall the Lord shave 00:14:30.02\00:14:31.92 with a razor that is hired, namely, 00:14:31.93\00:14:34.61 by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria." 00:14:34.62\00:14:38.02
