Hello and welcome to "His Words are Life." 00:00:15.46\00:00:17.81 I am Kelly Mower and thank you for joining with me today 00:00:17.82\00:00:20.57 to reading in the book of Ecclesiastes, together. 00:00:20.58\00:00:23.14 Before we start, let's pray. 00:00:23.15\00:00:25.98 Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much 00:00:25.99\00:00:29.09 for Your care and Your blessings 00:00:29.10\00:00:31.67 in Your keeping in all of our lives 00:00:31.68\00:00:34.00 to bring us this moment 00:00:34.01\00:00:35.35 where we can sit and hear Your word. 00:00:35.36\00:00:37.80 Please send Your Holy Spirit 00:00:37.81\00:00:39.97 to show us the personal way you want to plant this word 00:00:39.98\00:00:44.57 into our hearts and bring forth fruit to your glory. 00:00:44.58\00:00:47.61 We love you so much and thank you for loving us, amen. 00:00:47.62\00:00:51.80 We are reading in the book of Ecclesiastes 00:00:51.81\00:00:53.97 Chapter 8, beginning with verse 9 00:00:53.98\00:00:56.66 and this is the King James Version. 00:00:56.67\00:00:59.48 All this have I seen, and applied my heart 00:00:59.49\00:01:02.85 unto every work that is done under the sun, 00:01:02.86\00:01:06.34 there is a time wherein one man ruleth 00:01:06.35\00:01:08.21 over another to his own hurt. 00:01:08.22\00:01:10.60 And so I saw the wicked buried, 00:01:10.61\00:01:12.23 who had come and gone from the place of the holy, 00:01:12.24\00:01:15.03 and they were forgotten in the city 00:01:15.04\00:01:16.99 where they had so done, this is also vanity. 00:01:17.00\00:01:20.54 Because sentence against an evil work 00:01:20.55\00:01:22.76 is not executed speedily, 00:01:22.77\00:01:24.76 therefore the heart of the sons of men 00:01:24.77\00:01:26.27 is fully set in them to do evil. 00:01:26.28\00:01:29.17 Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, 00:01:29.18\00:01:31.21 and his days be prolonged, 00:01:31.22\00:01:33.08 yet surely I know that it shall be well with them 00:01:33.09\00:01:36.59 that fear God, which fear before him. 00:01:36.60\00:01:39.96 But it shall not be well with the wicked, 00:01:39.97\00:01:41.75 neither shall he prolong his days, 00:01:41.76\00:01:43.31 which are as a shadow, 00:01:43.32\00:01:45.20 because he feareth not before God. 00:01:45.21\00:01:47.75 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, 00:01:47.76\00:01:50.30 that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth 00:01:50.31\00:01:53.22 according to the work of the wicked, 00:01:53.23\00:01:55.38 again, there be wicked men, 00:01:55.39\00:01:57.54 to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous, 00:01:57.55\00:02:00.56 I said that this also is vanity. 00:02:00.57\00:02:03.79 Then I commended mirth, 00:02:03.80\00:02:05.11 because a man hath no better thing under the sun, 00:02:05.12\00:02:07.26 than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry, 00:02:07.27\00:02:10.07 for that shall abide with him 00:02:10.08\00:02:11.71 of his labour the days of his life, 00:02:11.72\00:02:13.18 which God giveth him under the sun. 00:02:13.19\00:02:15.87 When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, 00:02:15.88\00:02:18.61 and to see the business that is done upon the earth, 00:02:18.62\00:02:22.32 for also there is that neither day nor night 00:02:22.33\00:02:24.73 seeth sleep with his eyes. 00:02:24.74\00:02:26.96 Then I beheld all the work of God, 00:02:26.97\00:02:29.34 that a man cannot find out the work 00:02:29.35\00:02:31.13 that is done under the sun, 00:02:31.14\00:02:33.20 because though a man labour to seek it out, 00:02:33.21\00:02:36.53 yet he shall not find it, yea further, 00:02:36.54\00:02:39.29 though a wise man think to know it, 00:02:39.30\00:02:42.25 yet shall he not be able to find it. 00:02:42.26\00:02:45.56 Continuing in Ecclesiastes Chapter 9, 00:02:45.57\00:02:48.46 this is the King James Version. 00:02:48.47\00:02:51.47 For all this I considered in my heart 00:02:51.48\00:02:54.15 even to declare all this, that the righteous, 00:02:54.16\00:02:57.69 and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God, 00:02:57.70\00:03:02.25 no man knoweth either love or hatred 00:03:02.26\00:03:04.46 by all that is before them. 00:03:04.47\00:03:06.11 All things come alike to all, 00:03:06.12\00:03:09.34 there is one event to the righteous, 00:03:09.35\00:03:11.59 and to the wicked, to the good and to the clean, 00:03:11.60\00:03:14.46 and to the unclean, to him that sacrificeth, 00:03:14.47\00:03:18.24 and to him that sacrificeth not, 00:03:18.25\00:03:21.28 as is the good, so is the sinner, 00:03:21.29\00:03:24.96 and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath. 00:03:24.97\00:03:29.44 This is an evil among all things 00:03:29.45\00:03:30.88 that are done under the sun, 00:03:30.89\00:03:32.75 that there is one event unto all, 00:03:32.76\00:03:35.47 yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, 00:03:35.48\00:03:38.17 and madness is in their heart while they live, 00:03:38.18\00:03:40.94 and after that they go to the dead. 00:03:40.95\00:03:43.86 For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope, 00:03:43.87\00:03:47.68 for a living dog is better than a dead lion. 00:03:47.69\00:03:51.21 For the living know that they shall die, 00:03:51.22\00:03:53.47 but the dead know not any thing, 00:03:53.48\00:03:55.06 neither have they any more a reward, 00:03:55.07\00:03:56.72 for the memory of them is forgotten. 00:03:56.73\00:03:58.89 Also their love, and their hatred, 00:03:58.90\00:04:00.80 and their envy, is now perished, 00:04:00.81\00:04:03.83 neither have they any more a portion for ever 00:04:03.84\00:04:06.41 in any thing that is done under the sun. 00:04:06.42\00:04:10.29 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, 00:04:10.30\00:04:13.55 and drink thy wine with a merry heart, 00:04:13.56\00:04:16.32 for God now accepteth thy works. 00:04:16.33\00:04:19.83 Let thy garments be always white, 00:04:19.84\00:04:21.57 and let thy head lack no ointment. 00:04:21.58\00:04:24.63 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest 00:04:24.64\00:04:26.99 all the days of the life of thy vanity, 00:04:27.00\00:04:29.40 which he hath given thee under the sun, 00:04:29.41\00:04:31.14 all the days of thy vanity, 00:04:31.15\00:04:32.86 for that is thy portion in this life, 00:04:32.87\00:04:34.87 and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. 00:04:34.88\00:04:38.60 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, 00:04:38.61\00:04:41.85 do it with thy might, for there is no work, 00:04:41.86\00:04:44.84 nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, 00:04:44.85\00:04:47.62 in the grave, whither thou goest. 00:04:47.63\00:04:50.94 I returned, and saw under the sun, 00:04:50.95\00:04:53.04 that the race is not to the swift, 00:04:53.05\00:04:55.65 nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, 00:04:55.66\00:04:59.82 nor yet riches to men of understanding, 00:04:59.83\00:05:02.88 nor yet favour to men of skill, 00:05:02.89\00:05:05.95 but time and chance happeneth to them all. 00:05:05.96\00:05:09.95 For man also knoweth not his time, 00:05:09.96\00:05:13.15 as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, 00:05:13.16\00:05:15.57 and as the birds that are caught in the snare, 00:05:15.58\00:05:18.53 so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, 00:05:18.54\00:05:22.41 when it falleth suddenly upon them. 00:05:22.42\00:05:25.75 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, 00:05:25.76\00:05:28.00 and it seemed great unto me, there was a little city, 00:05:28.01\00:05:31.12 and few men within it, 00:05:31.13\00:05:33.25 and there came a great king against it, 00:05:33.26\00:05:34.98 and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it. 00:05:34.99\00:05:39.24 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, 00:05:39.25\00:05:43.96 and he by his wisdom delivered the city, 00:05:43.97\00:05:48.28 yet no man remembered that same poor man. 00:05:48.29\00:05:52.92 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength, 00:05:52.93\00:05:56.39 nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, 00:05:56.40\00:05:59.51 and his words are not heard. 00:05:59.52\00:06:01.99 The words of wise men are heard in quiet 00:06:02.00\00:06:05.12 more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. 00:06:05.13\00:06:08.53 Wisdom is better than weapons of war, 00:06:08.54\00:06:11.64 but one sinner destroyeth much good. 00:06:11.65\00:06:16.32 Continuing in the book of the Ecclesiastes 00:06:16.33\00:06:18.43 Chapter 10, and this is the King James Version. 00:06:18.44\00:06:22.14 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary 00:06:22.15\00:06:25.07 to send forth a stinking savour, 00:06:25.08\00:06:27.51 so doth a little folly 00:06:27.52\00:06:29.22 him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. 00:06:29.23\00:06:32.82 A wise man's heart is at his right hand, 00:06:32.83\00:06:35.99 but a fool's heart at his left. 00:06:36.00\00:06:38.44 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, 00:06:38.45\00:06:42.64 his wisdom faileth him, 00:06:42.65\00:06:43.79 and he saith to every one that he is a fool. 00:06:43.80\00:06:47.75 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, 00:06:47.76\00:06:50.70 leave not thy place, 00:06:50.71\00:06:53.00 for yielding pacifieth great offences. 00:06:53.01\00:06:57.51 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, 00:06:57.52\00:07:00.06 as an error which proceedeth from the ruler, 00:07:00.07\00:07:03.45 Folly is set in great dignity, 00:07:03.46\00:07:06.18 and the rich sit in low place. 00:07:06.19\00:07:09.58 I have seen servants upon horses, 00:07:09.59\00:07:12.24 and princes walking as servants upon the earth. 00:07:12.25\00:07:16.43 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it, 00:07:16.44\00:07:19.20 and whoso breaketh an hedge, 00:07:19.21\00:07:21.38 a serpent shall bite him. 00:07:21.39\00:07:24.22 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith, 00:07:24.23\00:07:27.31 and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. 00:07:27.32\00:07:31.79 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, 00:07:31.80\00:07:35.04 then must he put to more strength, 00:07:35.05\00:07:38.91 but wisdom is profitable to direct. 00:07:38.92\00:07:42.95 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment, 00:07:42.96\00:07:46.07 and a babbler is no better. 00:07:46.08\00:07:48.29 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, 00:07:48.30\00:07:52.58 but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. 00:07:52.59\00:07:57.01 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, 00:07:57.02\00:07:59.30 and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. 00:07:59.31\00:08:03.78 A fool also is full of words, 00:08:03.79\00:08:06.14 a man cannot tell what shall be, 00:08:06.15\00:08:09.28 and what shall be after him, who can tell him? 00:08:09.29\00:08:12.31 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, 00:08:12.32\00:08:14.80 because he knoweth not how to go to the city. 00:08:14.81\00:08:18.54 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, 00:08:18.55\00:08:21.68 and thy princes eat in the morning! 00:08:21.69\00:08:25.36 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, 00:08:25.37\00:08:29.01 and thy princes eat in due season, 00:08:29.02\00:08:32.12 for strength, and not for drunkenness! 00:08:32.13\00:08:35.78 By much slothfulness the building decayeth, 00:08:35.79\00:08:38.86 and through idleness of the hands 00:08:38.87\00:08:41.13 the house droppeth through. 00:08:41.14\00:08:43.76 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry, 00:08:43.77\00:08:46.96 but money answereth all things. 00:08:46.97\00:08:50.37 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought, 00:08:50.38\00:08:54.18 and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber, 00:08:54.19\00:08:56.30 for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, 00:08:56.31\00:08:59.62 and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. 00:08:59.63\00:09:03.45 Continuing in Ecclesiastes Chapter 11, 00:09:03.46\00:09:06.28 and this is the King James Version. 00:09:06.29\00:09:09.56 Cast thy bread upon the waters, 00:09:09.57\00:09:11.95 for thou shalt find it after many days. 00:09:11.96\00:09:15.19 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight, 00:09:15.20\00:09:17.81 for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. 00:09:17.82\00:09:21.65 If the clouds be full of rain, 00:09:21.66\00:09:23.28 they empty themselves upon the earth, 00:09:23.29\00:09:24.80 and if the tree fall toward the south, 00:09:24.81\00:09:26.88 or toward the north, in the place 00:09:26.89\00:09:28.44 where the tree falleth, there it shall be. 00:09:28.45\00:09:31.58 He that observeth the wind shall not sow, 00:09:31.59\00:09:34.05 and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. 00:09:34.06\00:09:38.16 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, 00:09:38.17\00:09:40.99 nor how the bones do grow 00:09:41.00\00:09:42.74 in the womb of her that is with child, 00:09:42.75\00:09:45.20 even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. 00:09:45.21\00:09:51.00 In the morning sow thy seed, 00:09:51.01\00:09:53.54 and in the evening withhold not thine hand, 00:09:53.55\00:09:56.44 for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, 00:09:56.45\00:09:59.28 either this or that, 00:09:59.29\00:10:01.07 or whether they both shall be alike good. 00:10:01.08\00:10:05.27 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is 00:10:05.28\00:10:07.87 for the eyes to behold the sun. 00:10:07.88\00:10:10.63 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all, 00:10:10.64\00:10:15.12 yet let him remember the days of darkness, 00:10:15.13\00:10:17.43 for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. 00:10:17.44\00:10:22.06 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, 00:10:22.07\00:10:24.73 and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, 00:10:24.74\00:10:27.80 and walk in the ways of thine heart, 00:10:27.81\00:10:29.76 and in the sight of thine eyes, 00:10:29.77\00:10:32.14 but know thou, that for all these things 00:10:32.15\00:10:35.78 God will bring thee into judgment. 00:10:35.79\00:10:39.19 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, 00:10:39.20\00:10:41.78 and put away evil from thy flesh, 00:10:41.79\00:10:44.41 for childhood and youth are vanity. 00:10:44.42\00:10:48.51 Continuing in the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 12, 00:10:48.52\00:10:52.00 this is the King James Version. 00:10:52.01\00:10:54.90 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, 00:10:54.91\00:10:58.60 while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, 00:10:58.61\00:11:02.03 when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them, 00:11:02.04\00:11:05.00 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, 00:11:05.01\00:11:07.47 be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain, 00:11:07.48\00:11:12.04 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, 00:11:12.05\00:11:14.83 and the strong men shall bow themselves, 00:11:14.84\00:11:17.17 and the grinders cease because they are few, 00:11:17.18\00:11:19.71 and those that look out of the windows be darkened, 00:11:19.72\00:11:23.31 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, 00:11:23.32\00:11:25.62 when the sound of the grinding is low, 00:11:25.63\00:11:27.34 and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, 00:11:27.35\00:11:29.28 and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low, 00:11:29.29\00:11:33.52 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, 00:11:33.53\00:11:36.36 and fears shall be in the way, 00:11:36.37\00:11:38.29 and the almond tree shall flourish, 00:11:38.30\00:11:39.86 and the grasshopper shall be a burden, 00:11:39.87\00:11:42.19 and desire shall fail, because man goeth to his long home, 00:11:42.20\00:11:47.19 and the mourners go about the streets. 00:11:47.20\00:11:50.33 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, 00:11:50.34\00:11:52.26 or the golden bowl be broken, 00:11:52.27\00:11:53.90 or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, 00:11:53.91\00:11:55.64 or the wheel broken at the cistern. 00:11:55.65\00:11:58.60 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, 00:11:58.61\00:12:02.01 and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. 00:12:02.02\00:12:06.99 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher, all is vanity. 00:12:07.00\00:12:12.54 And moreover, because the preacher was wise, 00:12:12.55\00:12:15.69 he still taught the people knowledge, 00:12:15.70\00:12:18.07 yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, 00:12:18.08\00:12:20.90 and set in order many proverbs. 00:12:20.91\00:12:24.22 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words, 00:12:24.23\00:12:27.32 and that which was written was upright, 00:12:27.33\00:12:29.64 even words of truth. 00:12:29.65\00:12:31.78 The words of the wise are as goads, 00:12:31.79\00:12:34.12 and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, 00:12:34.13\00:12:37.81 which are given from one shepherd. 00:12:37.82\00:12:39.92 And further, by these, my son, be admonished, 00:12:39.93\00:12:44.34 of making many books there is no end, 00:12:44.35\00:12:46.16 and much study is a weariness of the flesh. 00:12:46.17\00:12:49.85 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter, 00:12:49.86\00:12:53.46 Fear God, and keep his commandments, 00:12:53.47\00:12:56.06 for this is the whole duty of man. 00:12:56.07\00:12:59.71 For God shall bring every work into judgment, 00:12:59.72\00:13:02.89 with every secret thing, 00:13:02.90\00:13:04.94 whether it be good, or whether it be evil. 00:13:04.95\00:13:09.68 We are moving now to "The Song of Solomon" 00:13:09.69\00:13:12.35 Chapter 1, and this is the King James Version. 00:13:12.36\00:13:15.78 The Song of songs, which is Solomon's. 00:13:15.79\00:13:20.09 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth, 00:13:20.10\00:13:22.74 for thy love is better than wine. 00:13:22.75\00:13:26.14 Because of the savor of thy good ointments 00:13:26.15\00:13:28.90 thy name is as ointment poured forth, 00:13:28.91\00:13:31.30 therefore do the virgins love thee. 00:13:31.31\00:13:34.19 Draw me, we will run after thee, 00:13:34.20\00:13:36.42 the King hath brought me into his chambers, 00:13:36.43\00:13:39.31 we will be glad and rejoice in thee, 00:13:39.32\00:13:42.01 we will remember thy love more than wine, 00:13:42.02\00:13:45.41 the upright love thee. 00:13:45.42\00:13:47.84 I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, 00:13:47.85\00:13:51.01 as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. 00:13:51.02\00:13:54.59 Look not upon me, because I am black, 00:13:54.60\00:13:56.54 because the sun hath looked upon me, 00:13:56.55\00:13:58.89 my mother's children were angry with me, 00:13:58.90\00:14:00.91 they made me the keeper of the vineyards, 00:14:00.92\00:14:03.51 but mine own vineyard have I not kept. 00:14:03.52\00:14:06.71 Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, 00:14:06.72\00:14:09.87 where thou feedest, where thou makest 00:14:09.88\00:14:12.28 thy flock to rest at noon, 00:14:12.29\00:14:14.26 for why should I be as one that turneth aside 00:14:14.27\00:14:16.53 by the flocks of thy companions? 00:14:16.54\00:14:19.41 If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, 00:14:19.42\00:14:22.42 go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, 00:14:22.43\00:14:24.79 and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents. 00:14:24.80\00:14:28.90 I have compared thee, O my love, 00:14:28.91\00:14:30.95 to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots. 00:14:30.96\00:14:34.38 Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, 00:14:34.39\00:14:36.96 thy neck with chains of gold. 00:14:36.97\00:14:39.73
