Hello and welcome back to "His words are life." 00:00:16.61\00:00:18.90 I am Kelly Mowrer, and today we 00:00:19.24\00:00:20.56 are reading together in the book of Psalm. 00:00:20.57\00:00:22.64 We were in Psalm 78 when we were last reading. 00:00:23.42\00:00:27.64 and it's actually a Psalm of Asaph that is 00:00:28.07\00:00:30.07 recounting the deeds of God in the 00:00:30.08\00:00:32.72 history of Israel. And he recounts all 00:00:32.73\00:00:35.21 the things that God did, and yet Israel doubted 00:00:35.22\00:00:38.15 and rebelled and disobeyed and turned 00:00:38.16\00:00:40.42 from God, they did not seek him. 00:00:40.43\00:00:42.14 As we continue this today, 00:00:42.89\00:00:44.89 the Holy Spirit can bring to each 00:00:45.15\00:00:47.06 of our hearts, a deeper understanding 00:00:47.07\00:00:49.97 of ways in our own life when we have 00:00:49.98\00:00:52.10 not remembered properly the glory of 00:00:52.73\00:00:55.65 God that He has revealed to us, 00:00:55.66\00:00:57.19 and the power that he has worked in each 00:00:57.20\00:00:59.22 of our own lives, and we can ask Him to 00:00:59.23\00:01:01.52 renew in us a desire to seek Him and to 00:01:01.93\00:01:04.99 believe in His care and keeping for us in 00:01:05.35\00:01:07.95 whatever we are facing now, 00:01:07.96\00:01:09.37 because of all of the greatness of 00:01:09.78\00:01:11.20 His past care for us. Let's pray before we 00:01:11.46\00:01:13.58 start. Dear Lord, thank you that you 00:01:13.59\00:01:18.07 are with us always. Please forgive us 00:01:18.08\00:01:21.62 when we don't remember your greatness, 00:01:22.08\00:01:25.03 and your glory. Please bring to our 00:01:25.04\00:01:27.86 mind the power that you have shown us 00:01:27.87\00:01:30.58 of your love and of your mercy in the past, 00:01:30.59\00:01:32.90 so that in whatever we're facing right now, 00:01:33.19\00:01:35.37 we may know that you are in control because 00:01:36.05\00:01:38.32 you are our God. We love you so much, 00:01:38.33\00:01:40.69 and thank you for loving us, 00:01:40.70\00:01:42.07 in Jesus name I pray, amen. 00:01:42.84\00:01:44.82 We're picking up this account of Israel's 00:01:45.80\00:01:48.05 history in Psalm 78. This is the King James 00:01:48.06\00:01:51.32 Version beginning with verse 45. 00:01:51.33\00:01:53.49 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, 00:01:55.02\00:01:58.34 which devoured them; and frogs, 00:01:58.35\00:02:00.68 which destroyed them. He gave also their 00:02:00.69\00:02:03.54 increase unto the caterpillar, 00:02:03.55\00:02:05.23 and their labor unto the locust. 00:02:05.24\00:02:06.94 He destroyed their vines with hail, 00:02:06.95\00:02:08.86 and their Sycamore trees with frost. 00:02:08.87\00:02:11.11 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, 00:02:11.36\00:02:13.81 and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. 00:02:13.82\00:02:15.81 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, 00:02:16.74\00:02:19.27 wrath, and indignation, and trouble by sending 00:02:19.28\00:02:23.05 evil angels among them. He made a way 00:02:23.06\00:02:25.60 to his anger; he spared not their 00:02:25.61\00:02:27.20 soul from death, but gave their life over 00:02:27.21\00:02:29.19 to the pestilence; And smote all the 00:02:29.20\00:02:30.83 firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their 00:02:30.84\00:02:33.16 strength in the tabernacles of Ham: 00:02:33.17\00:02:35.19 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, 00:02:36.24\00:02:39.68 and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. 00:02:40.38\00:02:43.37 And he led them on safely, 00:02:44.30\00:02:45.75 so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed 00:02:46.16\00:02:49.86 their enemies. And he brought them to 00:02:49.87\00:02:52.31 the border of his sanctuary, 00:02:52.32\00:02:53.99 even to this mountain, which his right hand 00:02:54.00\00:02:56.82 had purchased. He cast out the heathen 00:02:56.83\00:02:59.15 also before them, and divided them 00:02:59.16\00:03:01.15 an inheritance by line, and made the tribes 00:03:01.72\00:03:03.88 of Israel to dwell in their tents. 00:03:03.89\00:03:05.76 Yet they tempted and provoked the 00:03:07.14\00:03:10.00 most high God, and kept not his testimonies: 00:03:10.01\00:03:13.61 But turned back and dealt unfaithfully 00:03:14.28\00:03:16.19 like their fathers: they were turned aside 00:03:16.20\00:03:19.08 like a deceitful bow. For they provoked 00:03:19.09\00:03:21.10 him to anger with their high places, 00:03:21.11\00:03:22.90 and moved him to jealousy with their 00:03:22.91\00:03:25.07 graven images. When God heard this, 00:03:25.08\00:03:27.95 he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel: 00:03:27.96\00:03:31.24 So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, 00:03:31.71\00:03:34.05 the tent which he placed among men; 00:03:34.06\00:03:35.95 And delivered his strength into captivity, 00:03:36.80\00:03:38.60 and his glory into the enemy's hand. 00:03:38.61\00:03:40.51 He gave his people over also unto the sword; 00:03:40.91\00:03:43.47 and was wroth with his inheritance. 00:03:43.48\00:03:45.39 The fire consumed their young men; 00:03:46.49\00:03:48.43 and their maidens were not given to 00:03:48.44\00:03:50.56 marriage. Their priests fell by the sword; 00:03:50.57\00:03:54.09 and their widows made no lamentation. 00:03:54.10\00:03:56.97 Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, 00:03:58.24\00:04:01.98 and like a mighty man that shouteth by 00:04:01.99\00:04:04.81 reason of wine. And he smote his 00:04:04.82\00:04:06.48 enemies in the hinder parts: 00:04:06.49\00:04:07.86 he put them to a perpetual reproach. 00:04:07.87\00:04:10.42 Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, 00:04:10.94\00:04:13.60 and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: 00:04:13.61\00:04:16.06 But chose the tribe of Judah, 00:04:16.61\00:04:18.03 the mount Zion which he loved. 00:04:18.54\00:04:20.28 And he built his sanctuary like 00:04:20.29\00:04:22.65 high palaces, like the earth which 00:04:22.66\00:04:24.79 he hath established for ever. 00:04:24.80\00:04:26.83 He chose David also his servant, 00:04:27.60\00:04:29.91 and took him from the sheepfolds: 00:04:29.92\00:04:32.06 From following the ewes great with young 00:04:32.97\00:04:35.18 he brought him to feed Jacob his people, 00:04:35.19\00:04:37.38 and Israel his inheritance. 00:04:37.80\00:04:39.76 So he fed them according to the integrity 00:04:40.65\00:04:42.76 of his heart; and guided them 00:04:42.77\00:04:45.19 by the skillfulness of his hands. 00:04:45.66\00:04:47.90 Continuing with Psalm 79. O God, 00:04:48.95\00:04:52.89 the heathen are come into thine inheritance; 00:04:52.90\00:04:55.38 thy holy temple have they defiled; 00:04:56.07\00:04:58.04 they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. 00:04:58.87\00:05:00.70 The dead bodies of thy servants have 00:05:00.71\00:05:03.25 they given to be meat unto the fowls 00:05:03.26\00:05:06.16 of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints 00:05:06.17\00:05:09.26 unto the beasts of the earth. 00:05:09.27\00:05:11.38 Their blood have they shed like water 00:05:12.41\00:05:14.68 round about Jerusalem; and there was none to 00:05:14.69\00:05:16.94 bury them. We are become 00:05:16.95\00:05:19.34 a reproach to our neighbors, 00:05:19.35\00:05:20.93 a scorn and derision to them that are 00:05:20.94\00:05:24.65 round about us. How long, Lord? 00:05:24.66\00:05:28.19 Wilt thou be angry forever? 00:05:28.68\00:05:30.11 Shall thy jealousy burn like fire? 00:05:31.16\00:05:33.69 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen 00:05:35.14\00:05:37.11 that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms 00:05:37.12\00:05:39.82 that have not called upon thy name. 00:05:39.83\00:05:41.61 For they have devoured Jacob, 00:05:41.62\00:05:42.92 and laid waste his dwelling place. 00:05:42.93\00:05:44.58 O remember not against us 00:05:45.17\00:05:47.17 former iniquities: let thy tender mercies 00:05:47.62\00:05:51.42 speedily prevent us: for we are brought 00:05:51.43\00:05:54.01 very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, 00:05:54.32\00:05:57.21 for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, 00:05:57.22\00:06:00.94 and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake. 00:06:00.95\00:06:05.32 Wherefore should the heathen say, 00:06:06.19\00:06:07.74 Where is their God? Let him be known 00:06:07.75\00:06:10.44 among the heathen in our sight by the 00:06:10.45\00:06:12.37 revenging of the blood of thy servants 00:06:12.38\00:06:14.35 which is shed. Let the sighing of 00:06:14.36\00:06:17.34 the prisoner come before thee; 00:06:17.35\00:06:18.75 according to the greatness of thy 00:06:18.76\00:06:20.30 power preserve thou those that are 00:06:20.31\00:06:23.54 appointed to die; And render unto our 00:06:23.55\00:06:26.36 neighbors sevenfold into their bosom 00:06:26.37\00:06:28.67 their reproach, wherewith they have 00:06:28.68\00:06:30.23 reproached thee, O Lord. So we thy people 00:06:30.24\00:06:34.41 and sheep of thy pasture will give thee 00:06:34.42\00:06:36.48 thanks forever: we will show forth thy 00:06:36.49\00:06:39.52 praise to all generations. 00:06:39.53\00:06:42.70 Continuing with Psalm 80. 00:06:43.92\00:06:45.13 This is the King James Version. Give ear, 00:06:45.14\00:06:48.30 O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph 00:06:48.31\00:06:51.87 like a flock; thou that dwellest 00:06:51.88\00:06:54.26 between the Cherubims, shine forth. 00:06:54.27\00:06:56.59 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh 00:06:57.59\00:06:59.91 stir up thy strength, and come and save us. 00:06:59.92\00:07:02.97 Turn us again, O God, and cause 00:07:03.48\00:07:05.57 thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. 00:07:05.58\00:07:08.39 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be 00:07:09.40\00:07:12.54 angry against the prayer of thy people? 00:07:12.55\00:07:15.11 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; 00:07:16.20\00:07:18.22 and givest them tears to drink in 00:07:18.23\00:07:19.80 great measure. Thou makest us a 00:07:19.81\00:07:22.65 strife unto our neighbors: and our enemies laugh 00:07:22.66\00:07:25.54 among themselves. Turn us again, 00:07:25.55\00:07:28.56 O God of hosts, and cause thy 00:07:29.08\00:07:31.54 face to shine; and we shall be saved. 00:07:31.55\00:07:35.04 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: 00:07:36.20\00:07:38.15 thou hast cast out the heathen, 00:07:38.53\00:07:39.83 and planted it. Thou preparedst 00:07:39.84\00:07:42.42 room before it, and didst cause it 00:07:42.43\00:07:44.38 to take deep root, and it filled the land. 00:07:44.39\00:07:47.36 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, 00:07:48.05\00:07:49.90 and the boughs thereof were like 00:07:49.91\00:07:51.16 the goodly cedars. She sent out her 00:07:51.17\00:07:54.00 boughs unto the sea, and her branches 00:07:54.01\00:07:55.79 unto the river. Why hast thou then 00:07:55.80\00:07:58.42 broken down her hedges, 00:07:58.43\00:08:00.12 so that all they which pass by the way 00:08:00.63\00:08:02.62 do pluck her? The boar out of 00:08:02.63\00:08:05.14 the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of 00:08:05.15\00:08:07.73 the field doth devour it. Return, 00:08:07.74\00:08:11.43 we beseech thee, O God of hosts: 00:08:11.44\00:08:13.42 look down from heaven, and behold, 00:08:13.43\00:08:16.28 and visit this vine; And the vineyard 00:08:16.29\00:08:19.22 which thy right hand hath planted, 00:08:19.23\00:08:20.85 and the branch that thou madest 00:08:21.41\00:08:23.41 strong for thyself. It is burned with fire, 00:08:23.42\00:08:27.38 it is cut down: they perish at the 00:08:28.02\00:08:30.95 rebuke of thy countenance. 00:08:30.96\00:08:32.94 Let thy hand be upon the man of 00:08:34.03\00:08:36.69 thy right hand, upon the son of man 00:08:36.70\00:08:39.68 whom thou madest strong for thyself. 00:08:40.06\00:08:42.44 So will not we go back from thee: 00:08:43.10\00:08:45.20 quicken us, and we will call upon thy name. 00:08:45.84\00:08:48.88 Turn us again, O Lord, God of hosts, 00:08:50.05\00:08:52.05 cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. 00:08:53.00\00:08:56.69 Psalm 81. This is the King James Version. 00:08:58.39\00:09:00.66 Sing aloud unto God our strength: 00:09:02.34\00:09:05.55 make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob. 00:09:05.56\00:09:08.76 Take a Psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, 00:09:08.77\00:09:11.22 the pleasant harp with the psaltery. 00:09:11.23\00:09:13.18 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, 00:09:13.71\00:09:15.68 in the time appointed on our solemn feast day. 00:09:15.69\00:09:18.24 For this was a statute for Israel, 00:09:18.82\00:09:20.40 and a law of the God of Jacob. 00:09:20.41\00:09:21.97 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, 00:09:22.73\00:09:25.60 when he went out through the land of Egypt: 00:09:26.17\00:09:28.02 where I heard a language that I understood not. 00:09:28.92\00:09:31.92 I removed his shoulder from the burden: 00:09:33.01\00:09:34.87 his hands were delivered from the pots. 00:09:34.88\00:09:37.96 Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; 00:09:38.80\00:09:41.74 I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: 00:09:42.79\00:09:45.06 I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. 00:09:45.47\00:09:47.97 Selah. Hear, O my people, 00:09:48.53\00:09:51.75 and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, 00:09:52.44\00:09:55.64 if thou wilt hearken unto me; 00:09:56.83\00:09:59.32 There shall no strange God be in thee; 00:09:59.73\00:10:02.32 neither shalt thou worship any strange God. 00:10:03.05\00:10:05.99 I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee 00:10:06.54\00:10:08.99 out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, 00:10:09.00\00:10:12.38 and I will fill it. But my people 00:10:12.39\00:10:16.00 would not hearken to my voice; 00:10:16.62\00:10:18.24 and Israel would none of me. 00:10:19.12\00:10:21.02 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: 00:10:22.19\00:10:24.97 and they walked in their own counsels. 00:10:25.78\00:10:27.45 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, 00:10:28.49\00:10:31.08 and Israel had walked in my ways! 00:10:31.09\00:10:33.49 I should soon have subdued their enemies, 00:10:33.50\00:10:35.68 and turned my hand against their 00:10:35.69\00:10:37.11 adversaries. The haters of the Lord 00:10:37.12\00:10:40.64 should have submitted themselves unto him: 00:10:41.11\00:10:42.92 but their time should have endured forever. 00:10:43.99\00:10:45.84 He should have fed them also with the 00:10:45.85\00:10:48.16 finest of the wheat: and with honey 00:10:48.17\00:10:49.63 out of the rock, should I have satisfied thee. 00:10:49.64\00:10:52.65 Psalm 82. God standeth in the congregation 00:10:54.25\00:10:58.66 of the mighty; he judgeth among the Gods. 00:10:58.67\00:11:01.58 How long will ye judge unjustly, 00:11:02.52\00:11:04.35 and accept the persons of the wicked? 00:11:04.36\00:11:06.20 Selah. Defend the poor and fatherless: 00:11:06.21\00:11:10.17 do justice to the afflicted and needy. 00:11:10.18\00:11:13.21 Deliver the poor and needy: 00:11:13.86\00:11:15.64 rid them out of the hand of the wicked. 00:11:15.98\00:11:18.21 They know not, neither will they understand; 00:11:19.36\00:11:21.78 they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of 00:11:22.73\00:11:26.46 the earth ar out of course. 00:11:26.47\00:11:27.95 I have said, Ye are Gods; and all of you are 00:11:29.13\00:11:32.16 children of the most High. 00:11:32.17\00:11:33.44 But ye shall die like men, 00:11:33.94\00:11:35.24 and fall like one of the princes. 00:11:35.25\00:11:37.11 Arise, O God, judge the earth: 00:11:38.34\00:11:40.90 for thou shalt inherit all nations. Psalm 83. 00:11:41.79\00:11:46.89 This is the King James Version. 00:11:46.90\00:11:48.37 Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, 00:11:50.04\00:11:53.99 and be not still, O God. For, lo, 00:11:54.00\00:11:56.82 thine enemies make a tumult: 00:11:56.83\00:11:58.70 and they that hate thee have 00:11:58.71\00:11:59.97 lifted up the head. They have taken 00:11:59.98\00:12:02.30 crafty counsel against thy people, 00:12:02.31\00:12:04.72 and consulted against thy hidden ones. 00:12:04.73\00:12:06.88 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off 00:12:06.89\00:12:09.58 from being a nation; that the name of Israel 00:12:09.59\00:12:11.70 maybe no more in remembrance. 00:12:11.71\00:12:13.60 For they have consulted together 00:12:14.99\00:12:16.04 with one consent: they are confederate 00:12:16.05\00:12:18.72 against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, 00:12:18.73\00:12:21.77 and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, 00:12:21.78\00:12:24.28 and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, 00:12:24.87\00:12:27.65 and Amalek; the Philistines with 00:12:27.66\00:12:29.82 the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined 00:12:29.83\00:12:33.21 with them: they have holpen 00:12:33.22\00:12:34.96 the children of Lot. Selah. Do unto them 00:12:34.97\00:12:39.20 as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, 00:12:39.21\00:12:41.74 as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: 00:12:42.27\00:12:44.42 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung 00:12:45.15\00:12:47.86 for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb, 00:12:47.87\00:12:51.30 and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes 00:12:51.31\00:12:53.77 as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: Who said, 00:12:53.78\00:12:57.41 Let us take to ourselves the houses 00:12:57.42\00:12:59.75 of God in possession. O my God, make them 00:12:59.76\00:13:03.22 like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. 00:13:03.23\00:13:06.52 As the fire burneth a wood, 00:13:07.22\00:13:09.13 and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; 00:13:09.14\00:13:11.25 So persecute them with thy tempest, 00:13:11.47\00:13:13.53 and make them afraid with thy storm. 00:13:13.54\00:13:15.26 Fill their faces with shame; 00:13:16.13\00:13:17.57 that they may seek thy name, O Lord. 00:13:18.45\00:13:20.90 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; 00:13:21.64\00:13:23.72 yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: 00:13:23.73\00:13:26.37 That men may know that thou, 00:13:26.71\00:13:28.81 whose name alone is JEHOVAH, 00:13:29.52\00:13:31.55 art the most high over all the earth. 00:13:32.14\00:13:35.04 Psalm 84. How amiable are thy tabernacles, 00:13:36.19\00:13:41.09 O Lord of hosts! My soul longeth, 00:13:41.10\00:13:44.19 yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: 00:13:44.20\00:13:47.28 my heart and my flesh crieth out 00:13:48.04\00:13:50.41 for the living God. Yea, the sparrow 00:13:50.42\00:13:53.56 hath found an house, and the swallow a 00:13:53.57\00:13:55.62 nest for herself, where she may lay her young, 00:13:55.63\00:13:58.58 even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, 00:13:59.26\00:14:00.75 my King, and my God. Blessed are they that 00:14:00.76\00:14:04.29 dwell in thy house: they will be still praising 00:14:04.30\00:14:07.90 thee. Selah. Blessed is the man 00:14:07.91\00:14:11.31 whose strength is in thee; 00:14:11.32\00:14:12.95 in whose heart are the ways of them. 00:14:13.54\00:14:15.45 Who passing through the valley of Baca 00:14:15.76\00:14:18.68 make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools. 00:14:18.69\00:14:22.56 They go from strength to strength, 00:14:23.39\00:14:25.93 every one of them in Zion appeareth 00:14:26.52\00:14:29.45 before God. O Lord God of hosts, 00:14:29.46\00:14:33.23 hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. 00:14:33.52\00:14:38.42
