Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.59\00:00:18.50 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to be reading in 00:00:18.53\00:00:21.56 the book of Psalms. 00:00:21.59\00:00:22.64 I know sometimes, for me and for many of us, 00:00:22.67\00:00:26.42 we can become discouraged thinking that we're basically 00:00:26.46\00:00:32.17 standing alone; that nobody really understands us, 00:00:32.21\00:00:35.81 or cares, or notices. 00:00:35.85\00:00:38.83 In the middle of the Psalm that we were reading the last time, 00:00:38.86\00:00:42.27 and we're going to pick up; Psalm 73, David is experiencing 00:00:42.30\00:00:45.67 some of those same sentiments. 00:00:45.71\00:00:47.87 He's expressing how he's surrounded by enemies, 00:00:47.91\00:00:51.14 and he's feeling alone. 00:00:51.17\00:00:53.31 We're going to pick up his conclusion of the matter, 00:00:53.35\00:00:56.55 but before we start, let's pray together. 00:00:56.59\00:00:58.89 Dear Lord, thank You for these words. 00:00:58.93\00:01:01.16 Thank You for the assurance that we are never alone, 00:01:01.20\00:01:04.94 in spite of how we feel. 00:01:04.98\00:01:06.03 We love You, and thank You for loving us. 00:01:06.07\00:01:08.63 Amen. 00:01:08.67\00:01:09.64 Picking up in Psalm 73, verse 23. 00:01:09.65\00:01:13.71 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: 00:01:13.74\00:01:18.45 thou hast held me by my right hand. 00:01:18.48\00:01:21.68 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, 00:01:21.72\00:01:24.62 and afterward receive me to glory. 00:01:24.66\00:01:27.49 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth 00:01:27.53\00:01:33.33 that I desire beside thee. 00:01:33.37\00:01:35.41 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength 00:01:35.45\00:01:41.57 of my heart, and my portion for ever. 00:01:41.61\00:01:44.74 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: 00:01:44.78\00:01:49.46 thou hast destroyed all them that go whoring from thee. 00:01:49.50\00:01:53.95 But it is good for me to draw near to God: 00:01:53.99\00:01:58.08 I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare 00:01:58.11\00:02:02.94 all thy works. 00:02:02.98\00:02:04.82 Psalm 74. 00:02:04.86\00:02:06.71 O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger 00:02:06.74\00:02:14.52 smoke against the sheep of thy pasture? 00:02:14.56\00:02:17.04 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; 00:02:17.07\00:02:21.72 the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; 00:02:21.76\00:02:25.30 this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt. 00:02:25.33\00:02:27.92 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; 00:02:27.96\00:02:32.04 even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary. 00:02:32.08\00:02:35.42 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; 00:02:35.45\00:02:39.21 they set up their ensigns for signs. 00:02:39.25\00:02:42.29 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes 00:02:42.33\00:02:45.51 upon the thick trees. 00:02:45.55\00:02:46.91 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once 00:02:46.95\00:02:51.16 with axes and hammers. 00:02:51.19\00:02:53.18 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, 00:02:53.21\00:02:55.33 they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of 00:02:55.36\00:02:59.15 thy name to the ground. 00:02:59.19\00:03:01.12 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: 00:03:01.16\00:03:05.20 they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land. 00:03:05.24\00:03:09.24 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: 00:03:09.28\00:03:13.65 neither is there among us any that knoweth how long. 00:03:13.69\00:03:18.03 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? 00:03:18.06\00:03:21.80 shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? 00:03:21.84\00:03:25.51 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? 00:03:25.54\00:03:29.19 pluck it out of thy bosom. 00:03:29.22\00:03:30.91 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst 00:03:30.95\00:03:34.77 of the earth. 00:03:34.80\00:03:35.77 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: 00:03:35.78\00:03:38.56 thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters. 00:03:38.60\00:03:41.77 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest 00:03:41.81\00:03:44.99 him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. 00:03:45.02\00:03:48.17 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: 00:03:48.20\00:03:51.03 thou driedst up mighty rivers. 00:03:51.07\00:03:53.88 The day is thine, the night also is thine: 00:03:53.91\00:03:57.94 thou hast prepared the light and the sun. 00:03:57.95\00:04:00.68 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: 00:04:00.71\00:04:03.41 thou hast made summer and winter. 00:04:03.44\00:04:05.84 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, 00:04:05.88\00:04:09.51 and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. 00:04:09.55\00:04:13.11 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude 00:04:13.15\00:04:17.61 of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy 00:04:17.65\00:04:20.97 poor for ever. 00:04:21.00\00:04:21.97 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth 00:04:21.98\00:04:26.05 are full of the habitations of cruelty. 00:04:26.09\00:04:29.55 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: 00:04:29.58\00:04:33.03 let the poor and needy praise thy name. 00:04:33.07\00:04:36.96 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: 00:04:36.99\00:04:40.82 remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily. 00:04:40.85\00:04:44.89 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: 00:04:44.92\00:04:47.26 the tumult of those that rise up against thee 00:04:47.29\00:04:50.49 increaseth continually. 00:04:50.53\00:04:53.22 Psalm 75; this is the King James Version. 00:04:53.26\00:04:57.28 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, 00:04:58.45\00:05:00.86 unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near 00:05:00.89\00:05:05.71 thy wondrous works declare. 00:05:05.74\00:05:07.34 When I shall receive the congregation 00:05:07.37\00:05:09.64 I will judge uprightly. 00:05:09.67\00:05:11.00 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are 00:05:11.03\00:05:13.98 dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. 00:05:14.02\00:05:16.99 Selah. 00:05:17.03\00:05:18.02 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, 00:05:18.05\00:05:23.91 Lift not up the horn: lift not up your horn on high: 00:05:23.95\00:05:28.95 speak not with a stiff neck. 00:05:28.98\00:05:31.69 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west 00:05:31.73\00:05:36.79 nor from the south. 00:05:36.82\00:05:38.14 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, 00:05:38.18\00:05:42.70 and setteth up another. 00:05:42.73\00:05:44.65 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, 00:05:44.69\00:05:48.29 and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; 00:05:48.33\00:05:51.87 and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, 00:05:51.90\00:05:55.46 all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, 00:05:55.50\00:05:58.87 and drink them. 00:05:58.91\00:05:59.97 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises 00:06:00.01\00:06:04.23 to the God of Jacob. 00:06:04.27\00:06:05.28 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; 00:06:05.31\00:06:08.95 but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. 00:06:08.99\00:06:12.59 Psalm 76. 00:06:13.58\00:06:15.25 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. 00:06:16.90\00:06:21.95 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. 00:06:21.99\00:06:27.04 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, 00:06:27.07\00:06:32.09 and the battle. 00:06:32.12\00:06:33.09 Selah. 00:06:33.10\00:06:34.07 Thou art more glorious and excellent 00:06:34.08\00:06:37.41 than the mountains of prey. 00:06:37.45\00:06:39.16 The stout-hearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: 00:06:39.20\00:06:43.76 and none of the men of might have found their hands. 00:06:43.79\00:06:47.23 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse 00:06:47.26\00:06:51.72 are cast into a dead sleep. 00:06:51.75\00:06:54.06 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand 00:06:54.09\00:06:58.25 in thy sight when once thou art angry? 00:06:58.29\00:07:01.21 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; 00:07:01.25\00:07:04.48 the earth feared, and was still. 00:07:04.51\00:07:06.82 When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. 00:07:06.85\00:07:10.94 Selah. 00:07:10.98\00:07:11.95 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: 00:07:11.96\00:07:14.81 the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. 00:07:14.84\00:07:17.78 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about 00:07:17.82\00:07:23.25 him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. 00:07:23.28\00:07:26.79 He shall cut off the spirit of princes: 00:07:26.83\00:07:30.14 he is terrible to the kings of the earth. 00:07:30.18\00:07:33.46 Psalm 77. 00:07:33.50\00:07:35.62 I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; 00:07:36.75\00:07:40.54 and he gave ear unto me. 00:07:40.58\00:07:42.07 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: 00:07:42.10\00:07:45.11 my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: 00:07:45.15\00:07:48.13 my soul refused to be comforted. 00:07:48.16\00:07:50.28 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, 00:07:50.31\00:07:54.08 and my spirit was overwhelmed. 00:07:54.12\00:07:57.30 Selah. 00:07:57.34\00:07:58.31 Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled 00:07:58.32\00:08:02.40 that I cannot speak. 00:08:02.44\00:08:04.36 I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. 00:08:04.40\00:08:08.52 I call to remembrance my song in the night: 00:08:08.55\00:08:12.33 I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit 00:08:12.36\00:08:16.10 made diligent search. 00:08:16.13\00:08:17.64 Will the Lord cast off for ever? 00:09:04.05\00:09:07.26 Thou art the God that doest wonders: 00:09:07.30\00:09:10.48 thou hast declared thy strength among the people. 00:09:10.51\00:09:13.88 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, 00:09:13.92\00:09:17.29 the sons of Jacob and Joseph. 00:09:17.32\00:09:19.44 Selah. 00:09:19.48\00:09:20.45 the waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; 00:09:20.46\00:09:24.07 they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. 00:09:24.10\00:09:28.03 The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: 00:09:28.07\00:09:33.46 thine arrows also went abroad. 00:09:33.49\00:09:37.78 the voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: 00:09:37.81\00:09:40.43 the lightnings lightened the world: 00:09:40.46\00:09:42.76 the earth trembled and shook. 00:09:42.79\00:09:44.22 Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, 00:09:44.25\00:09:49.37 and thy foot-steps are not known. 00:09:49.41\00:09:50.70 Thou ledest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses 00:09:50.74\00:09:55.17 and Aaron. 00:09:55.20\00:09:56.26 Psalm 78. 00:09:57.36\00:09:58.43 This is the King James Version. 00:09:58.46\00:10:01.20 Give ear, O my people, to my law: 00:10:01.23\00:10:03.90 incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 00:10:03.93\00:10:07.45 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark 00:10:07.49\00:10:11.34 sayings of old: which we have heard and known, 00:10:11.38\00:10:14.14 and our fathers have told us. 00:10:14.18\00:10:16.30 We will not hide them from their children, 00:10:16.34\00:10:19.41 showing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, 00:10:19.45\00:10:23.29 and his strength, and his wonderful works 00:10:23.32\00:10:26.24 that he hath done. 00:10:26.27\00:10:27.24 For he established a testimony in Jacob, 00:10:27.28\00:10:29.97 and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, 00:10:30.00\00:10:33.60 that they should make them known to their children: 00:10:33.63\00:10:36.04 that the generation to come might know them, 00:10:36.07\00:10:39.17 even the children which should be born: who should arise and 00:10:39.21\00:10:43.27 declare them to their children: that they might set their hope 00:10:43.31\00:10:47.33 in God, and not forget the works of God, 00:10:47.37\00:10:50.06 but keep his commandments: and might not be as their 00:10:50.09\00:10:53.36 fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation: 00:10:53.40\00:10:56.28 a generation that set not their heart aright, 00:10:56.32\00:10:59.16 and whose spirit was not steadfast with God. 00:10:59.19\00:11:01.96 The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, 00:11:02.00\00:11:06.44 turned back in the day of battle. 00:11:06.48\00:11:08.37 They kept not the covenant of God, 00:11:08.41\00:11:10.13 and refused to walk in his law. 00:11:10.16\00:11:11.81 and forgot his works, and his wonders that he had shown them. 00:11:11.85\00:11:14.43 Marvelous things did he in the sight of their fathers, 00:11:14.46\00:11:17.64 in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 00:11:17.67\00:11:19.61 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; 00:11:19.65\00:11:23.18 and he made the waters to stand as an heap. 00:11:23.21\00:11:25.80 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, 00:11:25.83\00:11:28.38 and all the night with a light of fire. 00:11:28.42\00:11:31.03 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, 00:11:31.07\00:11:33.61 and gave them drink as out of the great depths. 00:11:33.64\00:11:36.56 He brought streams also out of the rock, 00:11:36.59\00:11:40.02 and caused waters to run down like rivers. 00:11:40.05\00:11:43.41 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High 00:11:43.45\00:11:48.73 in the wilderness. 00:11:48.76\00:11:49.73 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat 00:11:49.74\00:11:52.67 for their lust. 00:11:52.71\00:11:53.68 Yea, they spake against God; they said, 00:11:53.69\00:11:57.10 Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? 00:11:57.13\00:12:00.49 Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, 00:12:00.53\00:12:03.87 and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? 00:12:03.90\00:12:07.21 can he provide flesh for his people? 00:12:07.25\00:12:09.08 Therefore the Lord heard this, and was wroth: 00:12:09.12\00:12:13.56 so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up 00:12:13.59\00:12:17.14 against Israel; because they believed not in God, 00:12:17.18\00:12:20.72 and trusted not in his salvation: 00:12:20.76\00:12:23.74 though he had commanded the clouds from above, 00:12:23.77\00:12:26.25 and opened the doors of heaven, and had rained down manna 00:12:26.28\00:12:30.48 upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. 00:12:30.52\00:12:35.11 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. 00:12:35.14\00:12:39.70 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: 00:12:39.73\00:12:41.96 and by his power he brought in the south wind. 00:12:41.99\00:12:44.19 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, 00:12:44.22\00:12:46.99 and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: 00:12:47.02\00:12:49.51 and he let it fall in the midst of their camp, 00:12:49.55\00:12:52.00 round about their habitations. 00:12:52.04\00:12:53.53 So they did eat, and were well filled: 00:12:53.56\00:12:56.17 for he gave them their own desire; 00:12:56.21\00:12:58.75 they were not estranged from their lust. 00:12:58.79\00:13:02.09 But while their meat was yet in their mouths, 00:13:02.13\00:13:06.49 the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, 00:13:06.53\00:13:10.85 and smote down the chosen men of Israel. 00:13:10.89\00:13:13.15 For all this they sinned still, and believed not 00:13:13.18\00:13:18.79 for his wondrous works. 00:13:18.83\00:13:20.06 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, 00:13:20.09\00:13:23.38 and their years in trouble. 00:13:23.41\00:13:25.06 When he slew them, then they sought him: 00:13:25.09\00:13:28.21 and they returned and inquired early after God. 00:13:28.25\00:13:31.55 And they remembered that God was their rock, 00:13:31.59\00:13:34.86 and the high God their redeemer. 00:13:34.89\00:13:37.71 Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, 00:13:37.75\00:13:41.52 and they lied unto him with their tongues. 00:13:41.56\00:13:44.34 For their heart was not right with him, 00:13:44.37\00:13:47.11 neither were they steadfast in his covenant. 00:13:47.12\00:13:49.65 But he, being full of compassion, 00:13:49.69\00:13:53.49 forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: 00:13:53.52\00:13:56.17 yea, many a time turned he his anger away, 00:13:56.20\00:14:00.02 and did not stir up all his wrath. 00:14:00.05\00:14:03.15 For he remembered that they were but flesh; 00:14:03.19\00:14:07.24 a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. 00:14:07.28\00:14:11.10 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, 00:14:11.13\00:14:14.92 and grieve him in the desert! 00:14:14.96\00:14:17.05 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, 00:14:17.08\00:14:19.66 and limited the Holy One of Israel. 00:14:19.69\00:14:22.20 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered 00:14:22.23\00:14:26.50 them from the enemy. 00:14:26.54\00:14:27.61 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, 00:14:27.65\00:14:29.72 and his wonders in the field of Zoan: 00:14:29.76\00:14:31.77 and had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, 00:14:31.80\00:14:34.20 that they could not drink. 00:14:34.23\00:14:35.96 Please join me again next time to read the book 00:14:36.00\00:14:38.71 of Psalms together. 00:14:38.74\00:14:39.71 Goodbye. 00:14:39.72\00:14:40.69
