Hello, Welcome back to His Words are Life. 00:00:15.45\00:00:17.73 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today to 00:00:17.76\00:00:20.96 read in the word of God, the story of Job. 00:00:20.99\00:00:23.37 Before we start, let's pray together. 00:00:23.40\00:00:25.41 Dear God, as we continue to read the story of Job, please come 00:00:25.44\00:00:32.51 and be present in our understanding so that we may 00:00:32.54\00:00:36.75 know the lesson that you have here for each of us in whatever 00:00:36.78\00:00:41.20 trial or difficulty we are facing. We love you so much and 00:00:41.23\00:00:45.16 thank you for loving us. Amen. We've been reading the story of 00:00:45.19\00:00:49.90 Job, who had been living a life that seemed particularly blessed 00:00:49.93\00:00:55.19 He was wealthy, had a wonderful family. And then the Lord 00:00:55.22\00:00:59.10 permitted Satan to bring trials against Job; because Job was 00:00:59.13\00:01:03.06 upright in heart. And Satan accused God, saying, He is only 00:01:03.09\00:01:06.71 doing this because you're blessing him. So God permitted 00:01:06.74\00:01:09.63 Satan to take away all of Job's stuff, to destroy Job's family, 00:01:09.66\00:01:15.99 and to bring boils upon Job, so that he was a disgrace and a 00:01:16.02\00:01:20.78 laughing stock to his friends and those who saw him. 00:01:20.81\00:01:24.29 His friends have come to have a dialog with him about why this 00:01:24.32\00:01:28.76 had happened to him - what had he done wrong? What hidden sin 00:01:28.79\00:01:31.29 did he have and Job maintained that he is right before God. 00:01:31.32\00:01:35.95 And they continue to talk back and forth about what purpose 00:01:35.98\00:01:40.00 would this be serving to a servant obedient to God. 00:01:40.03\00:01:44.05 And then God comes to speak to Job and that where we're picking 00:01:44.08\00:01:48.12 up this story. And God is laying out for Job some of his 00:01:48.15\00:01:53.34 creation. He's saying, Can you tell me how this happened. 00:01:53.37\00:01:58.15 Can you describe for me how these things came to be, and 00:01:58.18\00:02:01.34 Job is listening and realizing, No, he can't explain God 00:02:01.37\00:02:05.80 or his purposes, or his power. We're going to pick up now 00:02:05.83\00:02:09.13 in God's speech to Job, he's describing here, leviathan. 00:02:09.16\00:02:14.78 Reading in Job, chapter 41, starting with verse, 24, and 00:02:14.81\00:02:18.84 this is the King James Version. His heart is as firm as a stone; 00:02:18.87\00:02:24.11 yea as hard as a piece of the nether millstone 00:02:24.14\00:02:27.52 When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: 00:02:27.55\00:02:31.32 by reason of breakings they purify themselves. 00:02:31.35\00:02:34.57 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, 00:02:34.60\00:02:39.72 the dart, nor the habergeon. He esteemeth iron as straw, 00:02:39.75\00:02:44.15 and brass as rotten wood. The arrow cannot make him flee: 00:02:44.18\00:02:48.61 slingstones are turned with him unto stubble. Darts are counted 00:02:48.64\00:02:54.95 as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear. 00:02:54.98\00:02:57.78 Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things 00:02:57.81\00:03:02.75 upon the mire. He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: 00:03:02.78\00:03:06.93 he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment. 00:03:06.96\00:03:09.97 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep 00:03:10.00\00:03:15.04 to be hoary. Upon earth there is not his like, 00:03:15.07\00:03:19.30 who is made without fear. He beholdeth all high things: 00:03:19.33\00:03:23.32 he is a king over all the children of pride. 00:03:23.35\00:03:26.87 Now we're finishing in the book of Job, chapter 42. 00:03:26.90\00:03:31.96 This is the King James Version. Then Job answered the Lord, 00:03:31.99\00:03:36.45 and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, 00:03:36.48\00:03:41.18 and that no thought can be withholden from thee. 00:03:41.21\00:03:45.32 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? 00:03:45.35\00:03:49.32 therefore have I uttered that I understood not; 00:03:49.35\00:03:54.58 things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. 00:03:54.61\00:03:59.10 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, 00:03:59.13\00:04:04.53 and declare thou unto me. I have hard of thee by the hearing of 00:04:04.56\00:04:08.08 the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, 00:04:08.11\00:04:15.70 and repent in dust and ashes. And it was so, that after the 00:04:15.73\00:04:22.05 Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to 00:04:22.08\00:04:26.49 Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, 00:04:26.52\00:04:31.28 and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me 00:04:31.31\00:04:35.20 the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. 00:04:35.23\00:04:38.60 Therefore take unto you now 7 bullocks and 7 rams, 00:04:38.63\00:04:42.40 and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt 00:04:42.43\00:04:46.57 offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: 00:04:46.60\00:04:49.51 for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, 00:04:49.54\00:04:54.76 in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, 00:04:54.79\00:04:57.81 like my servant Job. So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad 00:04:57.84\00:05:03.67 the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did 00:05:03.70\00:05:07.59 according as the Lord commanded them: the Lord also accepted Job 00:05:07.62\00:05:11.91 and the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed 00:05:11.94\00:05:17.09 for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had 00:05:17.12\00:05:22.48 before. Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his 00:05:22.51\00:05:27.54 sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, 00:05:27.57\00:05:31.08 and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him 00:05:31.11\00:05:35.48 and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought 00:05:35.51\00:05:38.24 upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, 00:05:38.27\00:05:41.91 and every one an earring of gold. So the Lord blessed 00:05:41.94\00:05:46.68 the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had 00:05:46.71\00:05:51.45 14,000 sheep, and 6,000 camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, 00:05:51.48\00:05:56.04 and a thousand she asses. He had also 7 sons and 3 daughters. 00:05:56.07\00:06:01.91 And he called the name of the first Jemima; and the name 00:06:01.94\00:06:05.84 of the second Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. 00:06:05.87\00:06:10.47 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the 00:06:10.50\00:06:14.83 daughters of Job: and their father gave them an inheritance 00:06:14.86\00:06:18.30 among their brethren. After this lived Job an hundred and 00:06:18.33\00:06:22.65 forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, 00:06:22.68\00:06:27.14 even four generations. So Job died being old and full of days. 00:06:27.17\00:06:34.48 Now we're going to begin the book of Psalms. 00:06:34.51\00:06:39.08 This is the King James Version. Psalms, chapter 1. 00:06:39.11\00:06:42.17 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel 00:06:42.20\00:06:46.96 of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners, 00:06:46.99\00:06:50.17 nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 00:06:50.20\00:06:53.18 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law 00:06:53.21\00:06:57.94 doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree 00:06:57.97\00:07:02.78 planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit 00:07:02.81\00:07:07.34 in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; 00:07:07.37\00:07:10.46 and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: 00:07:10.49\00:07:16.65 but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore 00:07:16.68\00:07:20.69 the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the 00:07:20.72\00:07:24.13 congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of 00:07:24.16\00:07:27.91 the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. 00:07:27.94\00:07:31.45 Psalm 2. Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a 00:07:31.48\00:07:39.01 vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, 00:07:39.04\00:07:42.38 and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, 00:07:42.41\00:07:44.93 and against his anointed saying, Let us break their bands asunder 00:07:44.96\00:07:48.85 and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the 00:07:48.88\00:07:53.18 heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 00:07:53.21\00:07:56.41 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them 00:07:56.44\00:08:00.80 in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy 00:08:00.83\00:08:06.25 hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto 00:08:06.28\00:08:11.13 me Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 00:08:11.16\00:08:15.53 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine 00:08:15.56\00:08:19.33 inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth 00:08:19.36\00:08:21.83 for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; 00:08:21.86\00:08:26.11 thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 00:08:26.14\00:08:29.64 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges 00:08:29.67\00:08:35.46 of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with 00:08:35.49\00:08:39.82 trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish 00:08:39.85\00:08:44.03 from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. 00:08:44.06\00:08:46.64 Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. 00:08:46.67\00:08:52.12 Psalm 3. A psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son. 00:08:52.15\00:08:58.89 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! 00:08:58.92\00:09:04.30 Many are they that rise up against me. 00:09:04.33\00:09:07.50 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him 00:09:07.53\00:09:11.45 in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord art a shield for me; my glory 00:09:11.48\00:09:18.36 and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my 00:09:18.39\00:09:22.80 voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. 00:09:22.83\00:09:27.95 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord 00:09:27.98\00:09:33.14 sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of 00:09:33.17\00:09:37.07 people, that have set themselves against me round about. 00:09:37.10\00:09:39.93 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten 00:09:39.96\00:09:45.66 all my enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth 00:09:45.69\00:09:49.45 of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: 00:09:49.48\00:09:53.77 thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah. 00:09:53.80\00:09:58.03 Psalm 4. To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. 00:09:58.06\00:10:05.41 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: 00:10:05.44\00:10:09.90 thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon 00:10:09.93\00:10:15.90 me, and hear my prayer. O ye sons of men, how long will ye 00:10:15.93\00:10:20.51 turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, 00:10:20.54\00:10:24.59 and seek after leasing? Selah But know that the Lord hath set 00:10:24.62\00:10:30.07 apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear 00:10:30.10\00:10:33.99 when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with 00:10:34.02\00:10:40.52 your own heart upon your bed, and be still, Selah. 00:10:40.55\00:10:43.77 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your 00:10:43.80\00:10:48.70 trust in the Lord. There be many that say, Who will shew us 00:10:48.73\00:10:53.84 any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance 00:10:53.87\00:10:58.56 upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the 00:10:58.59\00:11:03.61 time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay 00:11:03.64\00:11:08.16 me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me 00:11:08.19\00:11:13.25 dwell in safety. Psalm 5 to the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, 00:11:13.28\00:11:20.81 A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my 00:11:20.84\00:11:27.14 meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my 00:11:27.17\00:11:31.77 God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the 00:11:31.80\00:11:36.33 morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto 00:11:36.36\00:11:40.34 thee, and will look up. For thou art not a God that hath pleasure 00:11:40.37\00:11:44.22 in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 00:11:44.25\00:11:47.58 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all 00:11:47.61\00:11:51.48 workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: 00:11:51.51\00:11:56.12 the Lord will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. 00:11:56.15\00:11:59.22 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of 00:11:59.25\00:12:03.72 thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple 00:12:03.75\00:12:08.22 Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness because of mine 00:12:08.25\00:12:12.88 enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 00:12:12.91\00:12:16.64 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth: their inward part 00:12:16.67\00:12:20.14 is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; 00:12:20.17\00:12:23.66 they flatter with their tongue. Destroy thou them, O God; 00:12:23.69\00:12:27.87 let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the 00:12:27.90\00:12:31.82 multitude of their transgressions; 00:12:31.85\00:12:33.40 for they have rebelled against thee. But let all those that put 00:12:33.43\00:12:39.43 their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, 00:12:39.46\00:12:44.04 because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name 00:12:44.07\00:12:48.73 be joyful in thee. For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; 00:12:48.76\00:12:52.14 with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield. 00:12:52.17\00:12:56.20 Psalm 6. To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, 00:12:56.23\00:13:03.31 A Psalm of David. O Lord, rebuke me not 00:13:03.34\00:13:08.12 in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 00:13:08.15\00:13:11.73 Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; 00:13:11.76\00:13:17.16 for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, 00:13:17.19\00:13:23.15 O Lord, how long? Return, O Lord deliver my soul: oh save me for 00:13:23.18\00:13:29.97 thy mercies' sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: 00:13:30.00\00:13:34.35 in the grave who shall give thee thanks? I am weary with my 00:13:34.38\00:13:39.34 groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch 00:13:39.37\00:13:44.95 with my tears. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; 00:13:44.98\00:13:49.13 it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. Depart from me, 00:13:49.16\00:13:54.23 all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard 00:13:54.26\00:13:56.74 the voice of my weeping. The Lord hath heard my supplication; 00:13:56.77\00:14:00.37 The Lord will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed 00:14:00.40\00:14:05.44 and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. 00:14:05.47\00:14:10.05 Psalm 7 Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the Lord, 00:14:10.08\00:14:16.14 concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. 00:14:16.17\00:14:18.50 O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them 00:14:18.53\00:14:25.76 that persecute me, and deliver me: Lest he tear my soul like a 00:14:25.79\00:14:29.38 lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. 00:14:29.41\00:14:33.18 Thank you for joining with me today to read. Please join me 00:14:33.21\00:14:37.46 next time to read more of the Psalms. Goodbye. 00:14:37.49\00:14:40.44
