Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:16.23\00:00:17.96 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're going to continue reading 00:00:17.99\00:00:21.36 in the book of Job. But before we start, let's pray together. 00:00:21.39\00:00:24.77 Dear God, as we read this story of Job, right now, I ask that 00:00:24.80\00:00:31.18 you would please send the Holy Spirit to each of us, 00:00:31.21\00:00:34.08 so that we may have a deeper understanding of the lessons 00:00:34.11\00:00:38.15 that you have for us in these words. Thank you for hearing 00:00:38.18\00:00:42.15 this prayer. Amen. 00:00:42.18\00:00:43.73 We're in the middle of the discourse of Job and his friends 00:00:43.76\00:00:49.10 Job maintaining that even though all of this terrible 00:00:49.13\00:00:54.82 tragedy has come into his life- he has lost everything- 00:00:54.85\00:00:57.84 that it is not because of he has not walked uprightly with 00:00:57.87\00:01:01.59 God, and yet his friends are saying, There can't be any other 00:01:01.62\00:01:05.79 reason that everything is going wrong. 00:01:05.82\00:01:08.02 And they're arguing back and forth. They're debating this. 00:01:08.05\00:01:12.07 We're in the middle of chapter 37, and a young man named, Elihu 00:01:12.10\00:01:17.42 is making his point to Job, as well. And Elihu was in the 00:01:17.45\00:01:21.98 middle of a listing of all of this many things 00:01:22.01\00:01:25.00 that God can do. We're starting in chapter 37, verse 9. 00:01:25.03\00:01:28.82 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the 00:01:28.85\00:01:34.74 north. By the breath of God frost is given: 00:01:34.77\00:01:38.33 and the breadth of the waters is straitened. 00:01:38.36\00:01:40.64 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: 00:01:40.67\00:01:44.67 he scattereth his bright cloud: and it is turned round about 00:01:44.70\00:01:48.39 by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth 00:01:48.42\00:01:53.40 them upon the face of the world in the earth. 00:01:53.43\00:01:55.67 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, 00:01:55.70\00:02:01.38 or for mercy. Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider 00:02:01.41\00:02:08.09 the wondrous works of God. Dost thou know when God disposed them 00:02:08.12\00:02:12.82 and caused the light of his cloud to shine? 00:02:12.85\00:02:15.74 Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, 00:02:15.77\00:02:19.41 the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? 00:02:19.44\00:02:23.34 How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the 00:02:23.37\00:02:27.53 south wind? Hast thou with him spread out the sky, 00:02:27.56\00:02:31.89 which is strong, and as a molten looking glass? 00:02:31.92\00:02:35.42 Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our 00:02:35.45\00:02:39.37 speech by reason of darkness. Shall it be told him 00:02:39.40\00:02:43.97 that I speak? If a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up. 00:02:44.00\00:02:47.83 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: 00:02:47.86\00:02:51.78 but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them. 00:02:51.81\00:02:54.44 Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible 00:02:54.47\00:02:59.64 majesty. Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: 00:02:59.67\00:03:04.64 he is excellent in power, and in judgment, 00:03:04.67\00:03:08.40 and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. 00:03:08.43\00:03:13.15 Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any 00:03:13.18\00:03:18.84 that are wise of heart. - We're continuing now 00:03:18.87\00:03:23.35 in the book of Job, chapter 38, This is the King James Version. 00:03:23.38\00:03:26.56 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 00:03:26.59\00:03:34.12 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without 00:03:34.15\00:03:38.84 knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; 00:03:38.87\00:03:41.59 for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. 00:03:41.62\00:03:45.63 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? 00:03:45.66\00:03:48.17 Declare it, if thou hast understanding. 00:03:48.20\00:03:51.71 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? 00:03:51.74\00:03:56.02 or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the 00:03:56.05\00:04:00.41 foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone 00:04:00.44\00:04:03.52 thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons 00:04:03.55\00:04:08.53 of God shouted for joy? Or who shut up the sea with doors, 00:04:08.56\00:04:13.20 when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? 00:04:13.23\00:04:16.28 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, 00:04:16.31\00:04:20.10 and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it, 00:04:20.13\00:04:23.07 and brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, 00:04:23.10\00:04:27.61 and said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: 00:04:27.64\00:04:30.94 and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? Hast thou commanded 00:04:30.97\00:04:36.77 the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring 00:04:36.80\00:04:40.49 to know his place; that it might take hold of the ends of 00:04:40.52\00:04:43.74 the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? 00:04:43.77\00:04:46.20 It is turned as clay to the seal and they stand as a garment. 00:04:46.23\00:04:51.11 and from the wicked their light is witholden, and the high arm 00:04:51.14\00:04:54.52 shall be broken. Hast thou entered into the springs of 00:04:54.55\00:04:58.69 the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? 00:04:58.72\00:05:02.84 Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? 00:05:02.87\00:05:06.27 or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? 00:05:06.30\00:05:09.44 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? 00:05:09.47\00:05:12.96 declare if thou knowest it all. Where is the way where light 00:05:12.99\00:05:19.47 dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, 00:05:19.50\00:05:23.61 That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that 00:05:23.64\00:05:26.38 thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? 00:05:26.41\00:05:28.39 Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? 00:05:28.42\00:05:32.49 or because the number of thy days is great? 00:05:32.52\00:05:35.48 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? 00:05:35.51\00:05:38.87 or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, which I have 00:05:38.90\00:05:42.06 reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of 00:05:42.09\00:05:44.67 battle and war? By what way is the light parted, 00:05:44.70\00:05:48.31 which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? 00:05:48.34\00:05:50.54 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, 00:05:50.57\00:05:54.55 or a way for the lightning of thunder; to cause it to rain on 00:05:54.58\00:05:59.81 the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there 00:05:59.84\00:06:03.17 is no man; to satisfy the desolate and waste ground; 00:06:03.20\00:06:06.98 and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? 00:06:07.01\00:06:09.65 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew? 00:06:09.68\00:06:15.05 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, 00:06:15.08\00:06:20.73 who hath gendered it? The waters are hid as with a stone, 00:06:20.76\00:06:25.03 and the face of the deep is frozen. Canst thou bind 00:06:25.06\00:06:27.56 the sweet influences of Pleiades or loose the bands of Orion? 00:06:27.59\00:06:32.97 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou 00:06:33.00\00:06:37.78 guide Arcturus with his sons? Knowest thou the ordinances 00:06:37.81\00:06:42.20 of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth? 00:06:42.23\00:06:45.72 Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of 00:06:45.75\00:06:50.09 waters may cover thee? Canst thou send lightnings, 00:06:50.12\00:06:53.73 that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are? 00:06:53.76\00:06:56.80 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? 00:06:56.83\00:07:00.64 or who hath given understanding to the heart? 00:07:00.67\00:07:03.29 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay 00:07:03.32\00:07:06.65 the bottles of heaven, when the dust groweth into hardness, 00:07:06.68\00:07:10.18 and the clods cleave fast together? 00:07:10.21\00:07:12.69 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of 00:07:12.72\00:07:17.49 the young lions, when they couch in their dens, and abide 00:07:17.52\00:07:20.50 in the covert to lie in wait? Who provideth for the raven 00:07:20.53\00:07:24.61 his food? when his young ones cry unto God, 00:07:24.64\00:07:27.23 they wander for lack of meat. We're continuing in Job, 00:07:27.26\00:07:32.25 chapter 39. This is the King James Version. 00:07:32.28\00:07:34.16 Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock 00:07:34.19\00:07:39.39 spring forth or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve? 00:07:39.42\00:07:43.32 Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? 00:07:43.35\00:07:46.69 or knowest thou the time when they bring forth? 00:07:46.72\00:07:49.20 The bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, 00:07:49.23\00:07:52.40 they cast out their sorrows. Their young ones are in good 00:07:52.43\00:07:55.53 liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not 00:07:55.56\00:08:00.02 unto them. Who hath sent out the wild ass free? 00:08:00.05\00:08:04.05 or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass? 00:08:04.08\00:08:07.19 whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land 00:08:07.22\00:08:10.38 his dwellings. He scorneth the multitude of the city, 00:08:10.41\00:08:14.03 neither regardeth he the crying of the driver. The range of the 00:08:14.06\00:08:17.80 mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green 00:08:17.83\00:08:20.88 thing. Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, 00:08:20.91\00:08:24.79 or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band 00:08:24.82\00:08:30.19 in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? 00:08:30.22\00:08:33.49 Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? 00:08:33.52\00:08:36.84 of wilt thou leave thy labor to him? 00:08:36.87\00:08:38.50 Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, 00:08:38.53\00:08:41.93 and gather it into thy barn? Gavest thou the goodly wings 00:08:41.96\00:08:46.16 unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich? 00:08:46.19\00:08:50.82 which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust, 00:08:50.85\00:08:54.20 and forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild 00:08:54.23\00:08:57.27 beast may break them. She is hardened against her young ones, 00:08:57.30\00:09:00.74 as though they were not hers; her labor is in vain 00:09:00.77\00:09:03.75 without fear; because God hath deprived her of wisdom, 00:09:03.78\00:09:06.67 neither hath he imparted to her understanding. 00:09:06.70\00:09:08.78 What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse 00:09:08.81\00:09:13.20 and his rider. Hast thou given the horse strength? 00:09:13.23\00:09:16.31 Hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? 00:09:16.34\00:09:18.74 Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? 00:09:18.77\00:09:21.98 the glory of his nostrils is terrible. 00:09:22.01\00:09:24.35 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: 00:09:24.38\00:09:27.26 he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, 00:09:27.29\00:09:31.63 and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. 00:09:31.66\00:09:34.11 The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the 00:09:34.14\00:09:38.23 shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: 00:09:38.27\00:09:42.35 neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet. 00:09:42.38\00:09:46.10 He saith among the trumpets, Ha, Ha; and he smelleth the battle 00:09:46.13\00:09:51.01 afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. 00:09:51.04\00:09:53.64 Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward 00:09:53.67\00:09:59.51 the south? Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, 00:09:59.54\00:10:03.06 and make her nest on high? She dwelleth and abideth on the rock 00:10:03.09\00:10:07.31 upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place. 00:10:07.34\00:10:09.60 from thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar 00:10:09.63\00:10:13.02 off. Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, 00:10:13.05\00:10:16.92 there is she. Continuing in Job, chapter 40. 00:10:16.95\00:10:21.88 Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said, 00:10:21.91\00:10:25.92 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? 00:10:25.95\00:10:30.02 he that reproveth God, let him answer it. Then Job answered 00:10:30.05\00:10:35.87 the Lord, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? 00:10:35.90\00:10:42.15 I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; 00:10:42.18\00:10:47.80 but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed 00:10:47.83\00:10:52.84 no further. Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the 00:10:52.87\00:10:57.46 whirlwind, and said, Gird up thy loins now like a man: 00:10:57.49\00:11:01.75 I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. 00:11:01.78\00:11:05.02 Wild thou also disannul my judgment? 00:11:05.05\00:11:08.13 wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? 00:11:08.16\00:11:12.06 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice 00:11:12.09\00:11:15.64 like him? Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency: 00:11:15.67\00:11:19.89 and array thyself with glory and beauty. Cast abroad the rage 00:11:19.92\00:11:24.56 of thy wrath and behold every one that is proud, 00:11:24.59\00:11:26.84 and abase him. Look on every one that is proud, 00:11:26.87\00:11:30.85 and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. 00:11:30.88\00:11:33.89 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret. 00:11:33.92\00:11:37.34 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand 00:11:37.37\00:11:42.34 can save thee. Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee 00:11:42.37\00:11:47.58 he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now his strength is in his loins, 00:11:47.61\00:11:53.30 and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail 00:11:53.33\00:11:57.91 like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. 00:11:57.94\00:12:01.48 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like 00:12:01.51\00:12:04.66 bars of iron. He is the chief of the ways of God: 00:12:04.69\00:12:08.38 He that made him can make his sword to approach unto him. 00:12:08.41\00:12:12.74 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts 00:12:12.77\00:12:16.52 of the field play. He lieth under the shady trees, 00:12:16.55\00:12:19.74 in the covert of the reed, and fens. The shady trees cover him 00:12:19.77\00:12:24.59 with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. 00:12:24.62\00:12:27.37 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: 00:12:27.40\00:12:31.57 he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. 00:12:31.60\00:12:35.43 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares. 00:12:35.46\00:12:40.98 Continuing in Job chapter 41. This is the King James Version. 00:12:41.01\00:12:45.39 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? 00:12:45.42\00:12:49.94 or his tongue with a cord, which thou lettest down? 00:12:49.97\00:12:53.04 Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through 00:12:53.07\00:12:57.19 with a thorn? Will he make many supplications unto thee? 00:12:57.22\00:13:00.74 will he speak soft words unto thee? 00:13:00.77\00:13:02.70 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a 00:13:02.73\00:13:05.52 servant for ever? Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? 00:13:05.55\00:13:09.03 or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens? 00:13:09.06\00:13:10.82 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? 00:13:10.85\00:13:13.87 shall the part him among the merchants? 00:13:13.90\00:13:15.92 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? 00:13:15.95\00:13:19.34 or his head with fish spears? Lay thine hand upon him, 00:13:19.37\00:13:22.61 remember the battle, do no more. 00:13:22.64\00:13:25.06 behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down 00:13:25.09\00:13:30.46 even at the sight of him? None is so fierce that dare stir him 00:13:30.49\00:13:34.20 up: who then is able to stand before me? 00:13:34.23\00:13:37.56 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? 00:13:37.59\00:13:41.20 whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. 00:13:41.23\00:13:43.92 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely 00:13:43.95\00:13:47.54 proportion. Who can discover the face of his garment? 00:13:47.57\00:13:50.69 Who can come to him with his double bridle? 00:13:50.72\00:13:53.48 Who can open the doors of his face? His teeth are terrible 00:13:53.51\00:13:57.13 round about. His scales are his pride, shut up together as with 00:13:57.16\00:14:00.84 a close seal. One is so near to another, that no air can come 00:14:00.87\00:14:04.50 between them. They are joined one to another, 00:14:04.53\00:14:07.01 they stick together, that they cannot be sundered. 00:14:07.04\00:14:09.50 By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the 00:14:09.53\00:14:13.07 eyelids of the morning. Out of his mouth go burning lamps, 00:14:13.10\00:14:16.80 and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, 00:14:16.83\00:14:21.18 as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth 00:14:21.21\00:14:25.20 coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. 00:14:25.23\00:14:27.67 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy 00:14:27.70\00:14:32.30 before him. The flakes of his flesh are joined together: 00:14:32.33\00:14:35.95 they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved. 00:14:35.98\00:14:39.38
