Hello and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:15.53\00:00:17.70 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today 00:00:17.73\00:00:20.68 to continue reading the story of Job. Let's pray together 00:00:20.71\00:00:24.18 before we start. Dear God, thank you so much for this story 00:00:24.21\00:00:28.65 and for the way that it bears witness to you and to obedience 00:00:28.68\00:00:35.58 to you and to the joy of that; unto the triumph of your name 00:00:35.61\00:00:40.62 when we obey you in our trials. Please help us to hear these 00:00:40.65\00:00:45.64 words and to learn from them today, what you would have us 00:00:45.67\00:00:48.62 each to put into practice in our own lives. Thank you so much 00:00:48.65\00:00:51.98 We love you. Amen. We've been reading in the book 00:00:52.01\00:00:56.30 of Job how the Lord permitted Satan to take from Job, 00:00:56.33\00:01:00.94 his family, his wealth, his health and here sits Job 00:01:00.97\00:01:07.35 suffering and destitute. His 3 friends come to be with him 00:01:07.38\00:01:12.35 and they begin to have this ongoing dialog with him, 00:01:12.38\00:01:15.30 about how his disobedience somehow must have caused this. 00:01:15.33\00:01:20.52 Job maintains over and over again that he is righteous 00:01:20.55\00:01:24.51 in the eyes of the Lord. And then a young man, named Elihu, 00:01:24.54\00:01:29.39 who has been sitting by and hearing all this, speaks up 00:01:29.42\00:01:33.36 and says, Even though I am younger than you, I am going to 00:01:33.39\00:01:38.13 now speak my piece. We're picking up in Job, chapter 33, 00:01:38.16\00:01:42.59 as Elihu is saying to Job, I have been listening to what you 00:01:42.62\00:01:47.02 say. I have heard you defending yourself that you are clean 00:01:47.05\00:01:51.70 of transgression. We're now going to pick up with verse 10. 00:01:51.73\00:01:55.65 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for 00:01:55.68\00:02:00.30 his enemy. He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my 00:02:00.33\00:02:03.94 paths. Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, 00:02:03.97\00:02:11.04 That God is greater than man. Why dost thou strive against 00:02:11.07\00:02:16.06 him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters. 00:02:16.09\00:02:19.63 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it 00:02:19.66\00:02:24.32 not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep 00:02:24.35\00:02:29.07 falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; then he openeth 00:02:29.10\00:02:33.30 the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, that he may 00:02:33.33\00:02:36.88 withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. 00:02:36.91\00:02:40.93 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from 00:02:40.96\00:02:45.04 perishing by the sword. He is chastened also with pain upon 00:02:45.07\00:02:49.09 his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain: 00:02:49.12\00:02:52.26 So that his life abhorreth bread and his soul dainty meat. 00:02:52.29\00:02:56.52 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; 00:02:56.55\00:03:00.01 and his bones that were not seen stick out. Yea his soul draweth 00:03:00.04\00:03:05.29 up near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers. 00:03:05.32\00:03:08.12 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a 00:03:08.15\00:03:12.74 thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness: Then he is gracious 00:03:12.77\00:03:17.29 unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: 00:03:17.32\00:03:20.73 I have found a ransom. His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: 00:03:20.76\00:03:24.86 he shall return to the days of his youth: He shall pray 00:03:24.89\00:03:27.87 unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: 00:03:27.90\00:03:30.83 and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man 00:03:30.86\00:03:34.96 his righteousness. He looketh upon men, and if any say, 00:03:34.99\00:03:40.14 I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, 00:03:40.17\00:03:43.31 and it profited me not; he will deliver his soul from going into 00:03:43.34\00:03:48.53 the pit, and his life shall see the light. Lo, all these things 00:03:48.56\00:03:54.06 worketh God oftentimes with man, to bring back his soul from the 00:03:54.09\00:03:58.74 pit to be enlightened with the light of the living. Mark well, 00:03:58.77\00:04:02.04 O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak. 00:04:02.07\00:04:06.75 If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire 00:04:06.78\00:04:11.78 to justify thee. If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, 00:04:11.81\00:04:17.41 and I shall teach thee wisdom. - Continuing in Job, chapter 34, 00:04:17.44\00:04:23.65 this is the King James Version. Furthermore Elihu answered 00:04:23.68\00:04:28.58 and said, Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, 00:04:28.61\00:04:31.49 ye that have knowledge. For the ear trieth words, as the mouth 00:04:31.52\00:04:35.79 tasteth meat. Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among 00:04:35.82\00:04:41.69 ourselves what is good. For Job hath said, I am righteous: 00:04:41.72\00:04:46.85 and God hath taken away my judgment. Should I lie against 00:04:46.88\00:04:51.62 my right? my wound is incurable without transgression. 00:04:51.65\00:04:55.78 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water? 00:04:55.81\00:05:01.92 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and 00:05:01.95\00:05:06.29 walketh with wicked men. For he hath said, It profiteth a man 00:05:06.32\00:05:11.00 nothing that he should delight himself with God. 00:05:11.03\00:05:13.34 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: 00:05:13.37\00:05:17.19 far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; 00:05:17.22\00:05:21.24 and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. 00:05:21.27\00:05:23.57 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every 00:05:23.60\00:05:29.02 man to find according to his ways. Yea surely God will not 00:05:29.05\00:05:33.33 do wickedly, neither will the almighty pervert judgment. 00:05:33.36\00:05:36.56 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed 00:05:36.59\00:05:40.72 the whole world? If he set his heart upon man, if he gather 00:05:40.75\00:05:45.85 unto himself his spirit and his breath; All flesh shall perish 00:05:45.88\00:05:50.54 together, and man shall turn again unto dust. 00:05:50.57\00:05:53.88 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice 00:05:53.91\00:05:59.68 of my words. Shall even he that hateth right govern? 00:05:59.71\00:06:04.82 and wilt thou condemn him that is most just? 00:06:04.85\00:06:09.32 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, 00:06:09.35\00:06:16.02 ye are ungodly? How much less to him that accepteth not 00:06:16.05\00:06:21.42 the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the 00:06:21.45\00:06:24.18 poor? for they all are the work of his hands. In a moment 00:06:24.21\00:06:29.23 shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight 00:06:29.26\00:06:31.73 and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without 00:06:31.76\00:06:36.22 hand. For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all 00:06:36.25\00:06:41.57 his goings. There is no darkness nor shadow of death, 00:06:41.60\00:06:45.69 where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 00:06:45.72\00:06:49.04 For he will not lay upon man more that right; 00:06:49.07\00:06:53.57 that he should enter into judgment with God. 00:06:53.60\00:06:55.92 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, 00:06:55.95\00:06:59.71 and set others in their stead. Therefore he knoweth their works 00:06:59.74\00:07:04.18 and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are 00:07:04.21\00:07:07.86 destroyed. He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of 00:07:07.89\00:07:12.56 others; because they turned back from him and would not consider 00:07:12.59\00:07:15.65 any of his ways: So that they cause the cry of the poor to 00:07:15.68\00:07:19.48 come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted. 00:07:19.51\00:07:21.79 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? 00:07:21.82\00:07:27.35 and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? 00:07:27.38\00:07:32.20 whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only: 00:07:32.23\00:07:36.51 That the Hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared. 00:07:36.54\00:07:41.59 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne 00:07:41.62\00:07:46.94 chastisement, I will not offend any more: That which I see not 00:07:46.97\00:07:52.45 teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more. 00:07:52.48\00:07:59.19 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, 00:07:59.22\00:08:03.96 whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: 00:08:03.99\00:08:07.66 therefore speak what thou knowest. 00:08:07.69\00:08:10.87 Let men of understanding tell me and let a wise man hearken 00:08:10.90\00:08:14.28 unto me. Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words 00:08:14.31\00:08:19.13 were without wisdom. My desire is that Job may be tried 00:08:19.16\00:08:24.32 unto the end because of his answers for wicked men. 00:08:24.37\00:08:27.31 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands 00:08:27.34\00:08:32.62 among us, and multiplieth his words against God. 00:08:32.65\00:08:37.18 Continuing in Job, chapter 35. This is the King James Version. 00:08:37.21\00:08:41.85 Elihu spake moreover, and said, Thinkest thou this to be right, 00:08:41.88\00:08:47.97 that thou saidst, My righteousness is more 00:08:48.00\00:08:51.36 than God's? For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto 00:08:51.39\00:08:54.52 thee, and What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my 00:08:54.55\00:08:57.77 sin? I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee. 00:08:57.80\00:09:02.41 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are 00:09:02.44\00:09:07.17 higher than thou. If thou sinnest, what doest thou 00:09:07.20\00:09:11.78 against him? of if thy transgressions be multiplied, 00:09:11.81\00:09:14.51 what doest thou unto him? If thou be righteous, 00:09:14.54\00:09:18.11 what gives thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand? 00:09:18.14\00:09:21.54 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; 00:09:21.57\00:09:24.14 and thy righteousness may profit the son of man. 00:09:24.17\00:09:26.27 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the 00:09:26.30\00:09:29.98 oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm 00:09:30.01\00:09:32.65 of the mighty. But none saith, Where is God my maker, 00:09:32.68\00:09:36.75 who giveth songs in the night; who teacheth us more than the 00:09:36.78\00:09:41.74 beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls 00:09:41.77\00:09:45.25 of heaven? There they cry, but none giveth answer, 00:09:45.28\00:09:50.30 because of the pride of evil men. Surely God will not hear 00:09:50.33\00:09:57.23 vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it. 00:09:57.26\00:10:00.71 Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is 00:10:00.74\00:10:05.89 before him; therefore trust thou in him. But now, because it is 00:10:05.92\00:10:11.21 not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not 00:10:11.24\00:10:15.94 in great extremity: Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; 00:10:15.97\00:10:20.04 he multiplieth words without knowledge. 00:10:20.07\00:10:23.70 Continuing on in Job, chapter 36 This is the King James Version. 00:10:23.73\00:10:28.76 Elihu also proceeded, and said, Suffer me a little, and I will 00:10:28.79\00:10:35.04 shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf. 00:10:35.07\00:10:38.83 I will fetch my knowledge from afar and will ascribe 00:10:38.86\00:10:42.68 righteousness to my maker. For truly my words shall not 00:10:42.71\00:10:47.57 be false. He that is perfect in knowledge is with thee. 00:10:47.60\00:10:51.13 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: 00:10:51.16\00:10:55.68 he is mighty in strength and wisdom. He preserveth not 00:10:55.71\00:11:00.25 the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor. 00:11:00.28\00:11:04.10 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: 00:11:04.13\00:11:07.27 but with kings are they on the throne; yea he doth establish 00:11:07.30\00:11:11.60 them for ever, and they are exalted. And if they be bound in 00:11:11.63\00:11:15.92 fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction; then he sheweth 00:11:15.95\00:11:20.15 them their work and their transgressions that they have 00:11:20.18\00:11:23.73 exceeded. He openeth also their ear to discipline and commandeth 00:11:23.76\00:11:29.12 that they return from iniquity. If they obey and serve him, 00:11:29.15\00:11:33.94 they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in 00:11:33.97\00:11:37.52 pleasures. But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, 00:11:37.55\00:11:42.71 and they shall die without knowledge. 00:11:42.74\00:11:45.04 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not 00:11:45.07\00:11:49.71 when he bindeth them. They die in youth, and their life is 00:11:49.74\00:11:53.49 among the unclean. He delivereth the poor in his 00:11:53.52\00:11:56.39 affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression. 00:11:56.42\00:11:58.99 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a 00:11:59.02\00:12:03.73 broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which 00:12:03.76\00:12:07.49 should be set on the table should be full of fatness. 00:12:07.52\00:12:09.86 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: 00:12:09.89\00:12:13.90 judgment and justice take hold on thee. Because there is wrath, 00:12:13.93\00:12:19.21 beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great 00:12:19.24\00:12:23.09 ransom cannot deliver thee. Will he esteem thy riches? 00:12:23.12\00:12:27.92 No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength. Desire not the 00:12:27.95\00:12:33.46 night, when people are cut off in their place. Take heed, 00:12:33.49\00:12:37.28 regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than 00:12:37.31\00:12:41.00 affliction. Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like 00:12:41.03\00:12:47.08 him? Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast 00:12:47.11\00:12:51.47 wrought iniquity? Remember that thou magnify his work, 00:12:51.50\00:12:55.72 which men behold. Every man may see it: man may behold it afar 00:12:55.75\00:13:00.80 off. Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the 00:13:00.83\00:13:06.83 number of his years be searched out. For he maketh small 00:13:06.86\00:13:09.93 the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the 00:13:09.96\00:13:13.88 vapour thereof: which the clouds do drop and distil upon man 00:13:13.91\00:13:18.71 abundantly. Also can any understand the spreadings of 00:13:18.74\00:13:22.97 the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle? Behold, he spreadeth 00:13:23.00\00:13:27.29 his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea. 00:13:27.32\00:13:30.42 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat 00:13:30.45\00:13:35.15 in abundance. With clouds he covereth the light; 00:13:35.18\00:13:38.73 and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt 00:13:38.76\00:13:42.45 The noise thereof sheweth concerning, the cattle also 00:13:42.48\00:13:46.32 concerning the vapour. Continuing with Job, chapter 37. 00:13:46.35\00:13:50.84 At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place. 00:13:50.87\00:13:55.85 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that 00:13:55.88\00:13:59.52 goeth out of his mouth. He directeth it under the whole 00:13:59.55\00:14:02.78 heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth. 00:14:02.81\00:14:05.42 After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of 00:14:05.45\00:14:09.68 his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice 00:14:09.71\00:14:11.92 is heard. God thundereth marvellously with his voice; 00:14:11.95\00:14:15.39 great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. 00:14:15.42\00:14:19.20 For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; 00:14:19.23\00:14:22.22 likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain 00:14:22.25\00:14:25.29 of his strength. He sealeth up the hand of every man; 00:14:25.32\00:14:28.89 that all men may know his work. Then the beasts go into dens, 00:14:28.92\00:14:33.25 and remain in their places. Please join me again next time 00:14:33.28\00:14:38.08 to continue this story of Job. Goodbye. 00:14:38.11\00:14:40.48
