Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life. 00:00:15.51\00:00:17.83 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we are continuing the story of Job. 00:00:17.86\00:00:21.90 Let's pray together before we start. 00:00:21.93\00:00:24.33 Dear God, Please be with us now as we read these words, 00:00:24.36\00:00:29.67 to understand the lessons that you have for each one of us 00:00:29.70\00:00:33.67 in the reading today. Please send your Holy Spirit to open 00:00:33.70\00:00:37.96 our eyes and make these words go deep into our heart today. 00:00:37.99\00:00:41.95 Amen. We're in the middle of a dialog between Job and his three 00:00:41.98\00:00:48.04 friends who have come to comfort him in the loss of his family, 00:00:48.07\00:00:52.16 the loss of his wealth, his property and in his health. 00:00:52.19\00:00:57.39 Job is sitting there discussing with them. They're dialoging 00:00:57.42\00:01:02.07 back and forth on the question of suffering and pain. 00:01:02.11\00:01:04.90 God's hand in it? is it punishment? 00:01:04.93\00:01:07.70 We're picking up in Job, chapter 18, as they discuss 00:01:07.74\00:01:12.28 these questions and make their points back and forth. 00:01:12.31\00:01:14.87 Verse 1 of chapter 18, this is the King James Version. 00:01:14.90\00:01:18.63 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite and said, How long will it be 00:01:18.66\00:01:24.87 ever ye make an end of words? mark and afterwards 00:01:24.90\00:01:28.87 we will speak. Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed 00:01:28.90\00:01:33.70 vile in your sight? He teareth himself in his anger: 00:01:33.73\00:01:37.34 shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be 00:01:37.37\00:01:40.94 removed out of his place? Yea the light of the wicked shall be 00:01:40.97\00:01:44.62 put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. 00:01:44.65\00:01:47.18 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle 00:01:47.21\00:01:50.91 shall be put out with him. The steps of his strength 00:01:50.94\00:01:54.59 shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. 00:01:54.62\00:01:57.83 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a 00:01:57.86\00:02:02.21 snare. The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall 00:02:02.24\00:02:06.44 prevail against him. The snare is laid for him in the ground, 00:02:06.47\00:02:10.09 and a trap for him in the way. Terrors shall make him afraid 00:02:10.12\00:02:13.82 on every side, and he shall drive him to his feet. 00:02:13.85\00:02:16.22 His strength shall be hunger bitten, and destruction 00:02:16.25\00:02:19.95 shall be ready at his side. It shall devour the strength of 00:02:19.98\00:02:23.11 his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. 00:02:23.14\00:02:26.66 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, 00:02:26.69\00:02:29.78 and it shall bring him to the king of terrors; 00:02:29.81\00:02:31.75 It shall dwell in his tabernacle because it is none of his: 00:02:31.78\00:02:35.48 brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. 00:02:35.51\00:02:38.74 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his 00:02:38.77\00:02:42.65 branch be cut off. His remembrance shall perish 00:02:42.68\00:02:46.12 from the earth and he shall have no name in the street. 00:02:46.15\00:02:48.46 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased 00:02:48.49\00:02:51.48 out of the world. He shall neither have son nor nephew 00:02:51.51\00:02:53.90 among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. 00:02:53.93\00:02:56.87 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, 00:02:56.90\00:03:00.85 as they that went before were affrighted. 00:03:00.88\00:03:05.09 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the 00:03:05.12\00:03:09.54 place of him that knoweth not God. 00:03:09.57\00:03:12.10 Continuing in Job, chapter 19. Then Job answered and said, 00:03:12.13\00:03:17.85 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces 00:03:17.88\00:03:20.97 with words? These ten times have ye reproached me: 00:03:21.00\00:03:24.78 ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. 00:03:24.81\00:03:27.93 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth 00:03:27.96\00:03:31.72 with myself. If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, 00:03:31.75\00:03:35.66 and plead against me my reproach: Know now that 00:03:35.69\00:03:38.94 God has overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. 00:03:38.97\00:03:41.73 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: 00:03:41.76\00:03:45.87 I cry aloud, but there is no judgment. He hath fenced 00:03:45.90\00:03:50.71 up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness 00:03:50.74\00:03:53.21 in my paths. He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown 00:03:53.24\00:03:56.98 from my head. He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: 00:03:57.01\00:04:00.69 and mine hope hath he removed like a tree. 00:04:00.72\00:04:02.89 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth 00:04:02.92\00:04:07.43 me unto him as one of his enemies. His troops come 00:04:07.46\00:04:10.79 together and raise up their way against me, and encamp 00:04:10.82\00:04:12.79 round about my tabernacle. He hath put my brethren far from me 00:04:12.82\00:04:17.56 and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me. 00:04:17.59\00:04:21.53 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends 00:04:21.56\00:04:25.80 have forgotten me. They that dwell in mine house, 00:04:25.83\00:04:29.87 and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien 00:04:29.90\00:04:34.58 in their sight. I called my servant, and he gave me 00:04:34.61\00:04:37.96 no answer; I entreated him with my mouth. My breath is strange 00:04:37.99\00:04:43.60 to my wife, though I entreated for the children's sake of mine 00:04:43.63\00:04:47.38 own body. Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they 00:04:47.41\00:04:51.82 spake against me. All my inward friends abhorred me. 00:04:51.85\00:04:55.09 and they whom I loved are turned against me. My bone cleaveth 00:04:55.12\00:05:00.90 to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin 00:05:00.93\00:05:04.81 of my teeth. Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, 00:05:04.84\00:05:09.85 O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. 00:05:09.88\00:05:13.35 Why do ye persecute me as God and are not satisfied 00:05:13.38\00:05:18.14 with my flesh? O that my words were now written! 00:05:18.17\00:05:21.60 O that they were printed in a book! 00:05:21.63\00:05:23.39 That they were graven with an iron pen and 00:05:23.42\00:05:26.19 lead in the rock forever! For I know that my redeemer liveth, 00:05:26.22\00:05:31.78 and he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 00:05:31.81\00:05:36.22 And though after my skin, worms destroy this body, 00:05:36.25\00:05:40.96 Yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, 00:05:40.99\00:05:47.06 and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; 00:05:47.09\00:05:49.57 though my reins be consumed within me. 00:05:49.60\00:05:52.73 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the 00:05:52.76\00:05:57.29 matter is found in me? Be ye afraid of the sword: 00:05:57.32\00:06:01.25 for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, 00:06:01.28\00:06:03.58 that ye may know there is a judgment. 00:06:03.61\00:06:06.72 Continuing in Job, chapter 20, This is the King James Version. 00:06:06.75\00:06:11.32 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, 00:06:11.35\00:06:16.46 Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, 00:06:16.49\00:06:20.21 and for this I make haste. I have heard the check of my 00:06:20.24\00:06:24.33 reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me 00:06:24.36\00:06:27.63 to answer. Knowest thou not this of old, 00:06:27.66\00:06:31.70 since man was placed upon earth, that the triumphing of 00:06:31.73\00:06:35.95 the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite 00:06:35.98\00:06:39.04 but for a moment? Though his excellency mount up to the 00:06:39.07\00:06:43.23 heavens, and his head reach the clouds; yet he shall perish 00:06:43.26\00:06:46.14 for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him 00:06:46.17\00:06:49.72 shall say, Where is he? He shall fly away as a dream, 00:06:49.75\00:06:53.44 and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away 00:06:53.47\00:06:56.18 as a vision of the night. The eye also which saw him shall see 00:06:56.21\00:07:00.82 him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him. 00:07:00.85\00:07:04.64 His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands 00:07:04.67\00:07:08.49 shall restore their goods. His bones are full of the sin of his 00:07:08.52\00:07:11.50 youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust. 00:07:11.53\00:07:14.20 Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it 00:07:14.23\00:07:19.03 under his tongue; though he spare it and forsake it not; 00:07:19.06\00:07:22.33 but keep it still within his mouth: yet his meat in his 00:07:22.36\00:07:26.56 bowels is turned, it is the gall of asps within him. 00:07:26.59\00:07:31.71 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again 00:07:31.74\00:07:36.27 God shall cast them out of his belly. He shall suck the poison 00:07:36.30\00:07:40.41 of asps: the viper's tongue shall slay him. 00:07:40.44\00:07:42.79 He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey 00:07:42.82\00:07:45.84 and butter. That which he labored for shall he restore, 00:07:45.87\00:07:49.41 and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance 00:07:49.44\00:07:52.95 shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein. 00:07:52.98\00:07:56.54 Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; 00:07:56.57\00:08:00.04 because he has violently taken away an house which he builded 00:08:00.07\00:08:03.08 not; surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, 00:08:03.11\00:08:06.88 he shall not save of that which he desired. 00:08:06.91\00:08:10.05 There shall none of his meat be left; 00:08:10.08\00:08:12.59 therefore shall no man look for his goods. 00:08:12.62\00:08:15.77 In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be 00:08:15.80\00:08:20.18 in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him. 00:08:20.21\00:08:24.96 When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury 00:08:24.99\00:08:28.62 of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he 00:08:28.65\00:08:31.81 is eating. He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow 00:08:31.84\00:08:35.36 of steel shall strike him through. 00:08:35.39\00:08:37.14 It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering 00:08:37.17\00:08:41.81 sword cometh out of his gall: terrors are upon him. 00:08:41.84\00:08:45.00 All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: a fire not blown 00:08:45.03\00:08:50.45 shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left 00:08:50.48\00:08:53.08 in his tabernacle. The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; 00:08:53.11\00:08:56.97 and the earth shall rise up against him. 00:08:57.00\00:08:59.17 The increase of his house shall depart, 00:08:59.20\00:09:02.21 and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. 00:09:02.24\00:09:06.49 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, 00:09:06.52\00:09:10.97 and the heritage appointed unto him by God. 00:09:11.00\00:09:15.73 Continuing with Job, chapter 21, This is the King James Version. 00:09:15.76\00:09:21.00 But Job answered and said, Hear diligently my speech, 00:09:21.03\00:09:27.02 and let this be your consolations. 00:09:27.05\00:09:29.06 Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, 00:09:29.09\00:09:32.63 mock on. As for me, is my complaint to man? 00:09:32.66\00:09:36.46 and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled? 00:09:36.49\00:09:39.39 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your 00:09:39.42\00:09:44.23 mouth. Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling 00:09:44.26\00:09:47.53 taketh hold on my flesh. Wherefore do the wicked live, 00:09:47.56\00:09:51.23 become old, yea, are mighty in power? Their seed is established 00:09:51.26\00:09:56.28 in their sight with them, and their offspring before 00:09:56.31\00:09:58.47 their eyes. Their houses are save from fear, 00:09:58.50\00:10:01.57 neither is the rod of God upon them. Their bull gendereth, 00:10:01.60\00:10:05.13 and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her 00:10:05.16\00:10:08.37 calf. They send forth their little ones like a flock, 00:10:08.40\00:10:11.46 and their children dance. They take the timbrel and harp, 00:10:11.49\00:10:14.50 and rejoice at the sound of the organ. 00:10:14.53\00:10:16.34 They spend their days in wealth and in a moment go down to the 00:10:16.37\00:10:20.58 grave. Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; 00:10:20.61\00:10:24.30 for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. 00:10:24.33\00:10:26.46 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? 00:10:26.49\00:10:29.75 and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him? 00:10:29.78\00:10:33.07 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked 00:10:33.10\00:10:38.51 is far from me. How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! 00:10:38.54\00:10:43.07 and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! 00:10:43.10\00:10:45.89 God distributeth sorrows in his anger. They are as stubble 00:10:45.92\00:10:50.73 before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away. 00:10:50.76\00:10:53.83 God layeth up his iniquity for his children: 00:10:53.86\00:10:57.11 he rewardeth him, and he shall know it. His eyes shall see 00:10:57.14\00:11:01.80 his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the 00:11:01.83\00:11:04.53 Almighty. For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, 00:11:04.56\00:11:08.83 when the number of his months is cut off in the midst? 00:11:08.86\00:11:12.30 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are 00:11:12.33\00:11:17.84 high. One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease 00:11:17.87\00:11:22.90 and quiet. His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are 00:11:22.93\00:11:26.05 moistened with marrow. And another dieth in the bitterness 00:11:26.08\00:11:30.22 of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. 00:11:30.25\00:11:33.27 They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms 00:11:33.30\00:11:36.71 shall cover them. Behold, I know your thoughts, 00:11:36.74\00:11:40.35 and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. 00:11:40.38\00:11:43.66 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the 00:11:43.69\00:11:47.71 dwelling places of the wicked? Have ye not asked them 00:11:47.74\00:11:51.41 that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens, 00:11:51.44\00:11:53.86 that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? 00:11:53.89\00:11:56.98 they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. 00:11:57.01\00:12:00.48 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay 00:12:00.51\00:12:05.14 him what he hath done? Yet shall he be brought to the grave, 00:12:05.17\00:12:09.08 and shall remain in the tomb. The clods of the valley 00:12:09.11\00:12:12.53 shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, 00:12:12.56\00:12:15.38 as there are innumerable before him. How then comfort ye me 00:12:15.41\00:12:20.53 in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood? 00:12:20.56\00:12:25.74 Continuing with Job, chapter 22. Then Eliphaz the Temanite 00:12:25.77\00:12:32.37 answered and said, Can a man be profitable unto God, 00:12:32.40\00:12:35.97 as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? 00:12:36.00\00:12:40.46 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art 00:12:40.49\00:12:44.21 righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways 00:12:44.24\00:12:47.87 perfect? Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? 00:12:47.90\00:12:51.81 will he enter with thee into judgment? 00:12:51.84\00:12:54.17 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite? 00:12:54.20\00:12:59.81 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, 00:12:59.84\00:13:03.40 and stripped the naked of their clothing. Thou hast not given 00:13:03.43\00:13:05.90 water to the weary to drink, and thou hast witholden bread 00:13:05.93\00:13:08.50 from the hungry. But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; 00:13:08.53\00:13:11.63 and the honorable man dwelt in it. Thou has sent widows 00:13:11.66\00:13:15.95 away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. 00:13:15.98\00:13:18.33 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear 00:13:18.36\00:13:22.84 troubleth thee; Or darkness, that thou canst not see; 00:13:22.87\00:13:27.22 and abundance of waters cover thee. Is not God in the height 00:13:27.25\00:13:31.06 of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! 00:13:31.09\00:13:34.95 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the 00:13:34.98\00:13:39.49 dark cloud? Thick clouds are a covering to him, 00:13:39.52\00:13:42.63 that he seeth not and he walketh in the circuit of heaven. 00:13:42.66\00:13:45.23 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? 00:13:45.26\00:13:48.97 which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown 00:13:49.00\00:13:52.29 with a flood: Which said unto God, Depart from us: 00:13:52.32\00:13:55.31 and what can the Almighty do for them? Yet he filled their houses 00:13:55.34\00:13:59.02 with good things: but the counsel of the wicked 00:13:59.05\00:14:02.13 is far from me. The righteous see it, and are glad: 00:14:02.16\00:14:05.56 and the innocent laugh them to scorn. Whereas our substance 00:14:05.59\00:14:08.81 is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire 00:14:08.84\00:14:11.58 consumeth. Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: 00:14:11.61\00:14:15.82 thereby good shall come unto thee. Receive, I pray thee, 00:14:15.85\00:14:20.23 the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. 00:14:20.26\00:14:23.40 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, 00:14:23.43\00:14:26.26 thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. 00:14:26.29\00:14:29.67 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir 00:14:29.70\00:14:34.65 as the stones of the brooks. Please join me again next time. 00:14:34.68\00:14:39.20 Goodbye. 00:14:39.23\00:14:40.20
