Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:15.94\00:00:17.82 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to continue to read 00:00:17.85\00:00:20.77 together in the book of Job. Let's pray together before we 00:00:20.80\00:00:23.87 start. Dear God as we read the story of your servant Job, 00:00:23.90\00:00:29.14 please show us the lessons that you have for each of us in this 00:00:29.17\00:00:34.78 account. Please send your Holy Spirit to bring a deeper 00:00:34.81\00:00:38.76 understanding to us that you would have us to take away from 00:00:38.79\00:00:43.01 the hearing of this word. And may it bear fruit to your glory. 00:00:43.04\00:00:46.28 We love you and thank your for loving us. Amen. 00:00:46.31\00:00:49.00 We've begun the story of Job and the Lord has permitted Satan 00:00:49.03\00:00:55.22 to destroy Job's family, his children, to take away all of 00:00:55.25\00:01:01.28 his wealth and to afflict him with sores from the sole of 00:01:01.31\00:01:06.23 foot to the head. And as he sits covered in sackcloth and ashes, 00:01:06.26\00:01:11.07 and in misery. His 3 friends come to sit and we're in the 00:01:11.10\00:01:16.02 middle of the dialog that Job is having with his 3 friends. 00:01:16.05\00:01:20.94 Job is now speaking. We're picking this up in chapter 7, 00:01:20.97\00:01:24.88 starting with verse 21. And why dost thou not pardon 00:01:24.91\00:01:30.22 my transgression and take away mine iniquity? for now shall I 00:01:30.25\00:01:33.74 sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning 00:01:33.77\00:01:37.60 but I shall not be. Now we're in Job chapter 8, 00:01:37.63\00:01:42.35 This is the King James Version. Then answered Bildad the Shuhite 00:01:42.38\00:01:47.15 and said, How long wilt thou speak these things? 00:01:47.18\00:01:50.71 and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? 00:01:50.74\00:01:53.90 Doth God pervert Judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert 00:01:53.93\00:01:58.45 justice? If thy children have sinned against him, 00:01:58.48\00:02:02.03 and he have cast them away for their transgression; 00:02:02.06\00:02:04.50 if thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy 00:02:04.53\00:02:08.61 supplication to the Almighty; If thou wert pure and upright; 00:02:08.64\00:02:13.03 surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation 00:02:13.06\00:02:17.28 of thy righteousness prosperous. Though thy beginning was small, 00:02:17.31\00:02:21.61 yet thy latter end should greatly increase. 00:02:21.64\00:02:24.05 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare 00:02:24.08\00:02:28.17 thyself to the search of their fathers: for we are but of 00:02:28.20\00:02:32.04 yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are 00:02:32.07\00:02:35.01 a shadow: shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter 00:02:35.04\00:02:39.16 words out of their heart? Can the rush grow up without mire? 00:02:39.19\00:02:43.74 can the flag grow without water? Whilst it is yet in his 00:02:43.77\00:02:47.94 greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other 00:02:47.97\00:02:52.20 herb. So are the paths of all that forget God; 00:02:52.23\00:02:55.36 and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: whose hope shall be cut 00:02:55.39\00:03:00.56 off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. 00:03:00.59\00:03:02.63 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: 00:03:02.66\00:03:06.50 he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. 00:03:06.53\00:03:09.68 He is green before the sun, an his branch shooteth forth 00:03:09.71\00:03:13.12 in his garden. His roots are wrapped about the heap, 00:03:13.15\00:03:15.90 and seeth the place of stones. If he destroy him from his place 00:03:15.93\00:03:19.43 then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. 00:03:19.46\00:03:22.50 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth 00:03:22.53\00:03:25.79 shall others grow. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man 00:03:25.82\00:03:32.25 neither will he help the evildoers: Till he fill thy 00:03:32.28\00:03:36.48 mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. 00:03:36.51\00:03:38.50 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; 00:03:38.53\00:03:41.47 and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought. 00:03:41.50\00:03:44.87 Continuing with Job, chapter 9, this is the King James Version. 00:03:44.90\00:03:49.18 Then Job answered and said, I know it is so of a truth: 00:03:49.21\00:03:55.90 but how should man be just with God? If he will contend with him 00:03:55.93\00:04:01.91 he cannot answer him one of a thousand. He is wise in heart, 00:04:01.94\00:04:07.01 and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, 00:04:07.04\00:04:10.42 and hath prospered? Which removeth the mountains, 00:04:10.45\00:04:13.30 and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. 00:04:13.33\00:04:15.93 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars 00:04:15.96\00:04:19.13 thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, 00:04:19.16\00:04:21.57 and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars. 00:04:21.60\00:04:23.74 Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the 00:04:23.77\00:04:27.46 waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, 00:04:27.49\00:04:32.76 and the chambers of the south. Which doeth great things past 00:04:32.79\00:04:36.81 finding out; yes, and wonders without number. 00:04:36.84\00:04:40.09 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also 00:04:40.12\00:04:47.43 but I perceive him not. Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder 00:04:47.46\00:04:53.60 him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou? 00:04:53.63\00:04:56.92 If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers 00:04:56.95\00:05:02.55 do stoop under him. How much less shall I answer him, 00:05:02.58\00:05:07.24 and choose out my words to reason with him? 00:05:07.27\00:05:10.12 Whom though I were righteous yet would I not answer, 00:05:10.15\00:05:15.17 but I would make supplication to my judge. If I had called, 00:05:15.20\00:05:20.40 and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had 00:05:20.43\00:05:24.14 hearkened unto my voice. For he breaketh me with a tempest, 00:05:24.17\00:05:27.69 and multiplieth my wounds without cause. 00:05:27.72\00:05:30.97 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with 00:05:31.00\00:05:34.22 bitterness. If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: 00:05:34.25\00:05:38.49 and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead? 00:05:38.52\00:05:42.93 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: 00:05:42.96\00:05:47.60 if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse. 00:05:47.63\00:05:52.62 Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: 00:05:52.65\00:05:56.95 I would despise my life. This is one thing, therefore I said it, 00:05:56.98\00:06:03.15 He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked. If the scourge slay 00:06:03.18\00:06:10.06 suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent. 00:06:10.09\00:06:12.83 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: 00:06:12.86\00:06:15.86 he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, 00:06:15.89\00:06:20.56 and who is he? Now my days are swifter than a post: 00:06:20.59\00:06:26.17 they flee away, they see no good. They are passed away as 00:06:26.20\00:06:30.43 the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey. 00:06:30.46\00:06:33.68 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off 00:06:33.71\00:06:38.10 my heaviness, and comfort myself I am afraid of all my sorrows, 00:06:38.13\00:06:43.52 I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent. If I be wicked, 00:06:43.55\00:06:48.85 why then labor I in vain? If I wash myself with snow water, 00:06:48.88\00:06:53.68 and make my hands never so clean; yet shalt thou plunge me 00:06:53.71\00:06:57.81 in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me. 00:06:57.84\00:07:00.20 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, 00:07:00.23\00:07:04.25 and we should come together in Judgment. 00:07:04.28\00:07:06.65 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his 00:07:06.68\00:07:10.21 hand upon us both. Let him take his rod away from me, 00:07:10.24\00:07:14.07 and let not his fear terrify me: Then would I speak, and not 00:07:14.10\00:07:19.56 fear him; but it is not so with me. 00:07:19.59\00:07:22.94 Continuing in Job, chapter 10, and this is the 00:07:22.97\00:07:26.75 King James Version. My soul is weary of my life; 00:07:26.78\00:07:31.56 I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the 00:07:31.59\00:07:35.60 bitterness of my soul. I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; 00:07:35.63\00:07:39.74 shew me wherefore thou contendest with me. 00:07:39.77\00:07:43.12 Is it good unto thee that thou shouldest oppress, 00:07:43.15\00:07:46.32 that thou shouldest despise the work of thine hands, 00:07:46.35\00:07:49.45 and shine upon the counsel of the wicked? 00:07:49.48\00:07:51.73 Hast thou eyes of flesh? or seest thou as man seeth? 00:07:51.76\00:07:55.63 Are thy days as the days of man? are thy years as man's days 00:07:55.66\00:08:00.92 that thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my 00:08:00.95\00:08:04.78 sin? Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none 00:08:04.81\00:08:10.08 that can deliver out of thine hand. 00:08:10.11\00:08:11.67 Thine hands have made me and fashioned me together 00:08:11.70\00:08:15.39 round about; yet thou dost destroy me. 00:08:15.42\00:08:19.01 Remember, I beseech thee, that thou hast made me as the clay; 00:08:19.04\00:08:22.94 and wilt thou bring me into dust again? 00:08:22.97\00:08:25.54 Hast thou not poured me out as milk and curdled me like cheese? 00:08:25.57\00:08:30.20 Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and hast fenced me 00:08:30.23\00:08:35.04 with bones and sinews. Thou hast granted me life and favor, 00:08:35.07\00:08:38.91 and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit. 00:08:38.94\00:08:41.74 And these things hast thou hid in thine heart: I know that this 00:08:41.77\00:08:46.95 is with thee. If I sin, then thou markest me, and thou wilt 00:08:46.98\00:08:52.41 not acquit me for mine iniquity. If I be wicked, 00:08:52.44\00:08:56.08 woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet will I not lift 00:08:56.11\00:09:00.37 up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see thou 00:09:00.40\00:09:06.02 mine affliction; for it increaseth. Thou huntest me 00:09:06.05\00:09:10.29 as a fierce lion: and again thou shewest thyself marvelous 00:09:10.32\00:09:13.43 upon me. Thou renewest thy witnesses against me, 00:09:13.46\00:09:16.80 and increasest thine indignation upon me; changes and war 00:09:16.83\00:09:20.18 are against me. Wherefore then hast thou brought me forth 00:09:20.21\00:09:23.82 out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye 00:09:23.85\00:09:27.03 had seen me! I should have been as though I had not been; 00:09:27.06\00:09:30.25 I should have been carried from the womb to the grave. 00:09:30.28\00:09:33.65 Are not my days few? cease then, and let me alone, that I may 00:09:33.68\00:09:39.25 take comfort a little, before I go whence I shall not return, 00:09:39.28\00:09:43.30 even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death; 00:09:43.33\00:09:45.41 A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow 00:09:45.44\00:09:49.73 of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness. 00:09:49.76\00:09:54.94 Continuing now in chapter 11. Then answered Zophar 00:09:54.97\00:10:02.28 the Naamathite, and said, Should not the multitude of words be 00:10:02.31\00:10:07.83 answered? and should a man full of talk be justified? 00:10:07.86\00:10:11.32 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou 00:10:11.35\00:10:15.93 mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed? For thou has said, 00:10:15.96\00:10:20.34 My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes. 00:10:20.37\00:10:22.49 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee; 00:10:22.52\00:10:27.02 and that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are 00:10:27.05\00:10:30.77 double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth 00:10:30.80\00:10:35.86 of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth. 00:10:35.89\00:10:38.86 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the 00:10:38.89\00:10:45.29 Almighty unto perfection? It is high as heaven; what canst thou 00:10:45.32\00:10:50.18 do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? 00:10:50.21\00:10:53.60 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader 00:10:53.63\00:10:57.39 than the sea. If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, 00:10:57.42\00:11:02.07 then who can hinder him? For he knoweth vain men: 00:11:02.10\00:11:06.46 he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it? 00:11:06.49\00:11:10.59 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild 00:11:10.62\00:11:14.67 ass's colt. If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out 00:11:14.70\00:11:18.82 thine hands toward him; If iniquity be in thine hand, 00:11:18.85\00:11:22.38 put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy 00:11:22.41\00:11:25.51 tabernacles. For then shalt thou lift up thy face without 00:11:25.54\00:11:29.44 spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear: 00:11:29.47\00:11:33.08 Because thou shalt forget thy misery and remember it as waters 00:11:33.11\00:11:38.10 that pass away: and thine age shall be clearer than the 00:11:38.13\00:11:40.60 noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning. 00:11:40.63\00:11:44.31 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, 00:11:44.34\00:11:47.24 thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in 00:11:47.27\00:11:50.15 safety. Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee 00:11:50.18\00:11:53.28 afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee. 00:11:53.31\00:11:56.08 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not 00:11:56.11\00:11:59.92 escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost. 00:11:59.95\00:12:03.73 Continuing in Job, chapter 12. This is the King James Version. 00:12:03.76\00:12:08.97 And Job answered and said, No doubt but ye are the people, 00:12:09.00\00:12:15.70 and wisdom shall die with you. But I have understanding as well 00:12:15.73\00:12:20.09 as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such 00:12:20.12\00:12:26.01 things as these? I am as one mocked of his neighbor, 00:12:26.04\00:12:30.01 who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: 00:12:30.04\00:12:33.32 the just upright man is laughed to scorn. 00:12:33.35\00:12:36.60 He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised 00:12:36.63\00:12:42.02 in the thought of him that is at ease. The tabernacles of robbers 00:12:42.05\00:12:47.18 prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand 00:12:47.21\00:12:51.15 God bringeth abundantly. But ask now the beasts, 00:12:51.19\00:12:54.78 and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, 00:12:54.81\00:12:58.37 they shall tell thee. Or speak to the earth and it shall teach 00:12:58.40\00:13:02.61 thee; and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 00:13:02.64\00:13:05.73 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath 00:13:05.76\00:13:08.74 wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, 00:13:08.77\00:13:12.76 and the breath of all mankind. Doth not the ear try words? 00:13:12.79\00:13:17.27 and the mouth taste his meat? With the ancient is wisdom; 00:13:17.30\00:13:21.06 and in length of days understanding. 00:13:21.09\00:13:22.88 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel 00:13:22.91\00:13:26.96 and understanding. Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be 00:13:26.99\00:13:31.73 built again: he shutteth up a man and there can be no opening. 00:13:31.76\00:13:35.20 Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: 00:13:35.23\00:13:38.53 also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth. 00:13:38.56\00:13:42.79 With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver 00:13:42.82\00:13:48.03 are his. He leadeth counselors away spoiled, and maketh the 00:13:48.06\00:13:52.16 judges fools. He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their 00:13:52.19\00:13:55.43 loins with a girdle. He leadeth princes away spoiled, 00:13:55.46\00:13:58.36 and overthroweth the mighty. He removeth away the speech 00:13:58.39\00:14:01.61 of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged. 00:14:01.64\00:14:04.38 He poureth contempt upon princes and weakeneth the strength 00:14:04.41\00:14:07.42 of the mighty. He discovereth deep things out of darkness, 00:14:07.45\00:14:10.57 and bringeth out to light the shadow of death. 00:14:10.60\00:14:12.87 He increaseth the nations and destroyeth them. He enlargeth 00:14:12.90\00:14:16.41 the nations, and straiteneth them again. 00:14:16.44\00:14:18.67 He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people 00:14:18.70\00:14:21.69 of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness 00:14:21.72\00:14:24.70 where there is no way. They grope in the dark without light, 00:14:24.73\00:14:29.97 and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man. 00:14:30.00\00:14:33.90 Please join me again next time to read more of the story of 00:14:33.93\00:14:37.27 Job. Goodbye. 00:14:37.30\00:14:38.56
