Hello, and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:15.92\00:00:17.99 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me today 00:00:18.02\00:00:21.40 to continue reading in the story of Esther. Before we start, 00:00:21.43\00:00:26.56 let's pray together. Dear Lord, thank you for the evidences 00:00:26.59\00:00:31.69 of your power and deliverance that we are reading in this 00:00:31.72\00:00:35.53 story. Please, may the Holy Spirit bring to the hearts of 00:00:35.56\00:00:39.81 each one of us the assurance that just as you delivered 00:00:39.84\00:00:43.81 Esther and the Jews all these hundreds of years ago, 00:00:43.84\00:00:46.81 you have a deliverance for each of us today in whatever we are 00:00:46.84\00:00:51.01 facing right now. Please be with us. Thank you for hearing our 00:00:51.04\00:00:54.43 prayer. Amen. Although Haman had conspired to 00:00:54.46\00:00:59.94 destroy the Jews, God had answered the prayer of 00:00:59.97\00:01:04.34 Esther and her people, and granted them favor in the eyes 00:01:04.37\00:01:07.43 of the king and a decree had gone forth that they would be 00:01:07.46\00:01:10.00 able to defend themselves against the attack when it came. 00:01:10.03\00:01:13.78 We're going to pick up that story now in Esther, chapter 9, 00:01:13.81\00:01:17.72 beginning with verse 5. Thus the Jews smote all their 00:01:17.75\00:01:23.34 enemies with a stroke of the sword, and slaughter, 00:01:23.37\00:01:26.91 and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated 00:01:26.94\00:01:31.21 them. And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed 00:01:31.24\00:01:35.71 500 men. And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha, 00:01:35.74\00:01:41.56 and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha, and Parmashta, and 00:01:41.59\00:01:46.93 Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha, the 10 sons of 00:01:46.96\00:01:51.71 Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they 00:01:51.74\00:01:56.13 but on the spoil laid they not their hand. On that day 00:01:56.16\00:02:00.77 the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace 00:02:00.80\00:02:04.06 was brought before the king. And the king said unto Esther 00:02:04.09\00:02:07.37 the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed 500 men in Shushan 00:02:07.40\00:02:12.62 the palace, and the 10 sons of Haman; what have they done in 00:02:12.65\00:02:16.41 the rest of the king's provinces? now what is thy 00:02:16.44\00:02:20.08 petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy 00:02:20.11\00:02:23.28 request further? and it shall be done. Then said Esther, 00:02:23.31\00:02:28.18 If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews 00:02:28.21\00:02:32.53 which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto 00:02:32.56\00:02:37.55 this day's decree, and let Haman's 10 sons be hanged 00:02:37.58\00:02:41.87 upon the gallows. And the king commanded it so to be done: 00:02:41.90\00:02:46.34 and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged 00:02:46.37\00:02:49.36 Haman's 10 sons. For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered 00:02:49.39\00:02:53.78 themselves together on the 14th day also of the month Adar, 00:02:53.81\00:02:57.54 and slew 300 men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their 00:02:57.57\00:03:02.18 hand. But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces 00:03:02.21\00:03:05.90 gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, 00:03:05.93\00:03:08.60 and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes 00:03:08.63\00:03:12.75 seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on 00:03:12.78\00:03:17.76 the prey, on the 13th day of the month Adar; and on the 14th day 00:03:17.79\00:03:22.20 of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting 00:03:22.23\00:03:27.62 and gladness. But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled 00:03:27.65\00:03:32.13 together on the 13th day thereof and on the 14th thereof; and on 00:03:32.16\00:03:36.08 the 15th day of the same they rested, and made it a day of 00:03:36.11\00:03:40.42 feasting and gladness. Therefore the Jews of the 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.31 villages, that dwelt in the unwalled towns, made the 00:03:44.34\00:03:47.93 14th dayof the month Adair a day of gladness and feasting, 00:03:47.96\00:03:51.34 and a good day, and of sending portions one to another. 00:03:51.37\00:03:53.91 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the 00:03:53.94\00:03:57.86 Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus 00:03:57.89\00:04:00.35 both nigh and far, to stablish this among them, that they 00:04:00.38\00:04:04.34 should keep the 14th day of the month Adar, and the 15th day 00:04:04.37\00:04:08.25 of the same, yearly, as the days wherein the Jews rested 00:04:08.28\00:04:12.45 from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto 00:04:12.48\00:04:15.85 them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: 00:04:15.88\00:04:21.77 that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of 00:04:21.80\00:04:25.91 sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor. 00:04:25.94\00:04:28.56 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai 00:04:28.59\00:04:33.63 had written unto them; because Haman the son of Hammadatha, 00:04:33.66\00:04:37.07 the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against 00:04:37.10\00:04:41.09 the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, 00:04:41.12\00:04:45.43 to consume them, and to destroy them; But when Esther came 00:04:45.46\00:04:50.08 before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked 00:04:50.11\00:04:54.09 device which he devised against the Jews, should return upon 00:04:54.12\00:04:57.85 his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the 00:04:57.88\00:05:01.67 gallows. Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name 00:05:01.70\00:05:07.27 of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of 00:05:07.30\00:05:11.78 that which they had seen concerning this matter, 00:05:11.81\00:05:14.99 and which had come unto them, the Jews ordained, and took 00:05:15.02\00:05:18.72 upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined 00:05:18.75\00:05:22.78 themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would 00:05:22.81\00:05:27.28 keep these two days according to their writing, and according 00:05:27.31\00:05:30.31 to their appointed time every year; And that these days 00:05:30.34\00:05:33.90 should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, 00:05:33.93\00:05:37.39 every family, every province, and every city; and that these 00:05:37.42\00:05:41.69 days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, 00:05:41.72\00:05:44.34 nor the memorial of them perish from their seed. 00:05:44.37\00:05:47.92 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, 00:05:47.95\00:05:52.45 and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this 00:05:52.48\00:05:57.48 second letter of Purim. And he sent the letters unto all the 00:05:57.51\00:06:02.36 Jews, to the hundred and twenty and seven provinces of the 00:06:02.39\00:06:05.37 kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth, to confirm 00:06:05.40\00:06:09.97 these days of Purim in their times appointed, according 00:06:10.00\00:06:12.61 as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined 00:06:12.64\00:06:15.25 them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their 00:06:15.28\00:06:18.03 seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry. 00:06:18.06\00:06:21.33 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim 00:06:21.36\00:06:25.49 and it was written in the book. Finishing now the book of Esther 00:06:25.52\00:06:30.83 chapter 10. This is the King James Version. 00:06:30.86\00:06:33.19 And the king Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, 00:06:33.22\00:06:38.08 and upon the isles of the sea. And all the acts of his power 00:06:38.11\00:06:42.81 and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness 00:06:42.84\00:06:46.50 of Mordecai, whereunto the king advanced him, are they not 00:06:46.53\00:06:50.87 written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media 00:06:50.90\00:06:53.75 and Persia? For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus 00:06:53.78\00:06:59.66 and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his 00:06:59.69\00:07:04.60 brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace 00:07:04.63\00:07:10.04 to all his seed. We're beginning now the book 00:07:10.07\00:07:15.45 of Job. This is the King James Version. 00:07:15.48\00:07:17.87 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; 00:07:17.90\00:07:23.30 and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God 00:07:23.33\00:07:27.90 and eschewed evil. And there were born unto him 7 sons and 00:07:27.93\00:07:33.06 3 daughters. His substance also was 7,000 sheep, and 3,000 00:07:33.09\00:07:37.80 camels, and 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 she asses, and a very 00:07:37.83\00:07:42.16 great household; so that this man was the greatest of all 00:07:42.19\00:07:45.89 the men of the east. And his sons went and feasted in their 00:07:45.92\00:07:50.22 houses, everyone his day; and sent and called for their three 00:07:50.25\00:07:54.59 sisters to eat and to drink with them. And it was so, 00:07:54.62\00:07:59.41 when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent 00:07:59.44\00:08:03.94 and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, 00:08:03.97\00:08:07.12 and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them 00:08:07.15\00:08:10.58 all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, 00:08:10.61\00:08:15.87 and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. 00:08:15.90\00:08:20.77 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present 00:08:20.80\00:08:25.97 themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. 00:08:26.00\00:08:30.25 And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence cometh thou? 00:08:30.28\00:08:34.79 Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro 00:08:34.82\00:08:39.20 in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 00:08:39.23\00:08:41.43 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant 00:08:41.46\00:08:46.35 Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and 00:08:46.38\00:08:50.66 upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? 00:08:50.69\00:08:54.64 Then Satan answered the Lord, Doth Job fear God for nought? 00:08:54.67\00:09:01.62 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, 00:09:01.65\00:09:05.67 and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed 00:09:05.70\00:09:09.52 the work of his hand, and his substance is increased in the 00:09:09.55\00:09:12.45 land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, 00:09:12.48\00:09:17.06 and he will curse thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto 00:09:17.09\00:09:22.01 Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon 00:09:22.04\00:09:28.10 himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth 00:09:28.13\00:09:33.10 from the presence of the Lord. And there was a day when his 00:09:33.13\00:09:36.88 sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine 00:09:36.91\00:09:39.36 in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger 00:09:39.39\00:09:43.01 unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses 00:09:43.04\00:09:46.67 feeding beside them: and the Sabeans fell upon them, 00:09:46.70\00:09:49.92 and took them away; yea they have slain the servants with the 00:09:49.95\00:09:52.96 edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 00:09:52.99\00:09:57.42 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, 00:09:57.45\00:10:02.79 The fire of God has fallen from heaven, and hath burned up 00:10:02.82\00:10:06.10 sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am 00:10:06.13\00:10:09.95 escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, 00:10:09.98\00:10:14.49 there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out 00:10:14.52\00:10:18.94 three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them 00:10:18.97\00:10:21.54 away, yea and slain the servants with the edge of the 00:10:21.57\00:10:24.41 sword and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 00:10:24.44\00:10:27.79 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, 00:10:27.82\00:10:33.30 and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and 00:10:33.33\00:10:37.05 drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: and, behold, 00:10:37.08\00:10:40.25 there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four 00:10:40.28\00:10:43.60 corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, 00:10:43.63\00:10:45.65 and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 00:10:45.68\00:10:50.13 Then Job arose and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, 00:10:50.16\00:10:55.83 and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, 00:10:55.86\00:10:59.88 Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return 00:10:59.91\00:11:05.72 thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; 00:11:05.75\00:11:10.86 blessed be the name of the Lord. In all this Job sinned not, 00:11:10.89\00:11:18.42 nor charged God foolishly. Continuing in Job chapter 2 00:11:18.45\00:11:24.56 This is the King James Version. Again there was a day when 00:11:24.59\00:11:30.04 the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, 00:11:30.07\00:11:33.19 and Satan came also among them to present himself before the 00:11:33.22\00:11:36.93 Lord. And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? 00:11:36.96\00:11:40.34 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro 00:11:40.37\00:11:45.23 in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 00:11:45.26\00:11:47.27 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant 00:11:47.30\00:11:52.49 Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an 00:11:52.52\00:11:57.33 upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? 00:11:57.36\00:12:01.03 and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst 00:12:01.06\00:12:08.15 me against him, to destroy him without cause. 00:12:08.18\00:12:10.39 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, 00:12:10.42\00:12:15.97 all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth 00:12:16.00\00:12:20.68 thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will 00:12:20.71\00:12:24.27 curse thee to thy face. And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, 00:12:24.30\00:12:29.27 he is in thine hand; but save his life. So went Satan forth 00:12:29.30\00:12:35.44 from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils 00:12:35.47\00:12:40.26 from the sole of his foot unto his crown. And he took him 00:12:40.29\00:12:46.81 a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among 00:12:46.84\00:12:51.24 the ashes. Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain 00:12:51.27\00:12:56.19 thine integrity? curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou 00:12:56.22\00:13:00.88 speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we 00:13:00.91\00:13:05.66 receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? 00:13:05.69\00:13:09.26 In all this did not Job sin with his lips. 00:13:09.29\00:13:14.79 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was 00:13:14.82\00:13:20.48 come upon him, they came every one from his own place; 00:13:20.51\00:13:23.90 Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the 00:13:23.93\00:13:29.11 Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to 00:13:29.14\00:13:33.99 mourn with him and to comfort him. And when they lifted up 00:13:34.02\00:13:38.24 their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their 00:13:38.27\00:13:41.74 voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, 00:13:41.77\00:13:45.63 and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. 00:13:45.66\00:13:48.02 So they sat down with him upon the ground, seven days and seven 00:13:48.05\00:13:53.21 nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that 00:13:53.24\00:13:58.26 his grief was very great. 00:13:58.30\00:14:00.45 We're continuing in chapter 3 of the book of Job. 00:14:00.48\00:14:05.40 After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. 00:14:05.43\00:14:10.34 And Job spake, and said, Let the day perish wherein I was 00:14:10.37\00:14:13.72 born, and the night in which it was said, there is a men child 00:14:13.75\00:14:17.32 conceived. Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it 00:14:17.35\00:14:22.54 from above, neither let the light shine upon it. 00:14:22.57\00:14:24.98 Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud 00:14:25.01\00:14:29.37 dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it. 00:14:29.40\00:14:33.53 Until we come together again, may God keep us faithful 00:14:33.56\00:14:37.70 like Job. Goodbye. 00:14:37.73\00:14:39.34
