Hello, and welcome back to His Words are Life. 00:00:16.82\00:00:18.77 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for joining with me today 00:00:18.80\00:00:22.06 to read the word of God. Let's pray together before we start. 00:00:22.09\00:00:24.65 Dear God, thank you so much for the opportunity to come again 00:00:24.68\00:00:31.04 apart from our life and the busyness of it to sit quietly 00:00:31.07\00:00:34.95 with your word. Please bless us as we listen and read now 00:00:34.98\00:00:39.72 together and may your Holy Spirit show us the truth that 00:00:39.75\00:00:43.43 you have for each one of us. We love you so much, 00:00:43.46\00:00:45.81 and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:00:45.84\00:00:48.35 When we were last together we were reading about the reign of 00:00:48.38\00:00:51.39 King Hezekiah and how it was blessed because of his obedience 00:00:51.42\00:00:55.88 to God. We're picking up now in 2nd Chronicles, chapter 32, 00:00:55.91\00:00:59.67 and verse 23 and this is the King James Version. 00:00:59.70\00:01:02.89 And many brought gifts unto the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents 00:01:02.92\00:01:09.16 to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified 00:01:09.19\00:01:12.76 in the sight of all nations from thenceforth. 00:01:12.79\00:01:15.62 In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto 00:01:15.65\00:01:21.29 the Lord: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign. 00:01:21.32\00:01:24.80 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done 00:01:24.83\00:01:29.55 unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was 00:01:29.58\00:01:34.62 wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. 00:01:34.65\00:01:37.56 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his 00:01:37.59\00:01:41.91 heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, 00:01:41.94\00:01:44.49 so that the wrath of the Lord came not upon them 00:01:44.52\00:01:47.55 in the days of Hezekiah. And Hezekiah had exceeding much 00:01:47.58\00:01:52.56 riches and honor: and he made himself treasuries for silver, 00:01:52.59\00:01:56.71 and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for 00:01:56.74\00:02:01.59 shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels; 00:02:01.62\00:02:03.77 Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, 00:02:03.80\00:02:07.60 and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, 00:02:07.63\00:02:10.92 and cotes for flocks. Moreover he provided him cities, 00:02:10.95\00:02:15.37 and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: 00:02:15.40\00:02:18.66 for God had given him substance very much. This same Hezekiah 00:02:18.69\00:02:24.15 also stopped the upper water course of Gihon, and brought it 00:02:24.18\00:02:27.95 straight down to the west side of the city of David. 00:02:27.98\00:02:30.47 And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. 00:02:30.50\00:02:34.66 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of 00:02:34.69\00:02:39.84 Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was 00:02:39.87\00:02:44.21 done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know 00:02:44.24\00:02:49.80 all that was in his heart. Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah 00:02:49.83\00:02:54.67 and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision 00:02:54.70\00:02:58.88 of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of 00:02:58.91\00:03:02.30 the kings of Judah and Israel. And Hezekiah slept with his 00:03:02.33\00:03:06.89 fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres 00:03:06.92\00:03:10.05 of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of 00:03:10.08\00:03:14.76 Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son 00:03:14.80\00:03:19.44 reigned in his stead. 00:03:19.48\00:03:21.07 Continuing now with 2nd Chronicles, chapter 33, 00:03:21.10\00:03:25.76 This is the King James Version. 00:03:25.79\00:03:27.21 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, 00:03:27.24\00:03:32.19 and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem: 00:03:32.22\00:03:35.51 but did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, 00:03:35.54\00:03:39.22 like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had 00:03:39.25\00:03:43.55 cast out before the children of Israel. For he built again the 00:03:43.58\00:03:47.82 high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, 00:03:47.85\00:03:50.90 and he reared up altars for Baalim and made groves, 00:03:50.93\00:03:55.27 and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 00:03:55.30\00:03:57.71 Also he built altars in the house of the Lord, 00:03:57.74\00:04:01.66 whereof the Lord had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be 00:04:01.69\00:04:06.26 for ever. And he built altars for all the host of heaven 00:04:06.29\00:04:10.39 in two courts of the house of the Lord. And he caused his 00:04:10.42\00:04:12.79 children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son 00:04:12.82\00:04:16.97 of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, 00:04:17.00\00:04:21.66 and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and 00:04:21.69\00:04:26.02 with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord. 00:04:26.05\00:04:29.96 to provoke him to anger. And he set a carved image, 00:04:29.99\00:04:34.38 the idol which he made in the house of God, of which God 00:04:34.41\00:04:38.30 had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house 00:04:38.33\00:04:41.79 and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of 00:04:41.82\00:04:45.59 Israel, will I put my name for ever: Neither will I any more 00:04:45.62\00:04:49.77 remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have 00:04:49.80\00:04:52.92 appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do 00:04:52.95\00:04:56.72 all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law 00:04:56.75\00:04:59.98 and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. 00:05:00.01\00:05:02.42 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, 00:05:02.45\00:05:07.38 and to do worse than the heathen whom the Lord had destroyed 00:05:07.41\00:05:11.64 before the children of Israel. And the Lord spake to Manasseh, 00:05:11.67\00:05:15.65 and to his people: but they would not hearken. 00:05:15.68\00:05:18.44 Wherefore the Lord brought upon them the captains of the host 00:05:18.47\00:05:23.34 of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns 00:05:23.37\00:05:27.56 and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. 00:05:27.59\00:05:30.87 And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, 00:05:30.90\00:05:35.81 and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 00:05:35.84\00:05:39.80 and prayed unto him: and he was entreated of him, and heard his 00:05:39.83\00:05:43.90 supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his 00:05:43.93\00:05:48.59 kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God. 00:05:48.62\00:05:54.77 Now after this he build a wall without the city of David, 00:05:54.80\00:05:59.63 on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering 00:05:59.66\00:06:03.43 in of the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, 00:06:03.46\00:06:07.41 and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war 00:06:07.44\00:06:12.84 in all the fenced cities of Judah. 00:06:12.87\00:06:14.94 And he took away the strange Gods, and the idol out of the 00:06:14.97\00:06:19.68 house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the 00:06:19.71\00:06:22.43 mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, 00:06:22.46\00:06:24.64 and cast them out of the city. And he repaired the altar 00:06:24.67\00:06:29.12 of the Lord, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings 00:06:29.15\00:06:32.59 and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the 00:06:32.62\00:06:37.08 Lord God of Israel. Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still 00:06:37.11\00:06:43.46 in the high places, yet unto the Lord their God only. 00:06:43.49\00:06:47.32 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer 00:06:47.35\00:06:51.65 unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him 00:06:51.68\00:06:55.80 in the name of the Lord God of Israel, behold, they are written 00:06:55.83\00:06:59.03 in the book of the kings of Israel. His prayer also, 00:06:59.06\00:07:03.03 and how God was entreated of him, and all his sins, 00:07:03.06\00:07:06.41 and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, 00:07:06.44\00:07:10.65 and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: 00:07:10.68\00:07:13.85 behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers. 00:07:13.88\00:07:17.97 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him 00:07:18.00\00:07:22.78 in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his stead. 00:07:22.81\00:07:28.04 Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, 00:07:28.07\00:07:32.30 and reigned 2 years in Jerusalem But he did that which was evil 00:07:32.33\00:07:37.46 in the sight of the Lord, as did Manasseh his father: 00:07:37.49\00:07:40.91 for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh 00:07:40.94\00:07:45.80 his father had made, and served them; and humbled not himself 00:07:45.83\00:07:50.68 before the Lord, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; 00:07:50.71\00:07:54.17 but Amon trespassed more and more. And his servants conspired 00:07:54.20\00:08:00.20 against him, and slew him in his own house. 00:08:00.23\00:08:03.26 But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired 00:08:03.29\00:08:07.26 against king Amon and the people of the land made Josiah his son 00:08:07.29\00:08:11.62 king in his stead. - We're continuing with 2nd Chronicles, 00:08:11.65\00:08:16.79 chapter 34, and this is the King James Version. 00:08:16.82\00:08:19.79 Josiah was 8 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 00:08:19.82\00:08:26.43 in Jerusalem one and thirty years. 00:08:26.46\00:08:28.99 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, 00:08:29.02\00:08:32.96 and walked in the ways of David his father, 00:08:32.99\00:08:35.61 and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left. 00:08:35.64\00:08:39.00 For in the 8th year of his reign, while he was yet young, 00:08:39.03\00:08:43.46 he began to seek after the God of David his father: 00:08:43.49\00:08:47.28 and in the 12th year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem 00:08:47.31\00:08:52.60 from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, 00:08:52.63\00:08:56.70 and the molten images. And they brake down the altars of Baalim 00:08:56.73\00:09:00.97 in his presence; and the images that were on high above them, 00:09:01.00\00:09:05.34 he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, 00:09:05.37\00:09:09.53 and the molten images he brake in pieces, and made dust of them 00:09:09.56\00:09:13.98 and strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed 00:09:14.01\00:09:17.37 unto them. And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their 00:09:17.40\00:09:21.55 altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem. And so did he in the 00:09:21.58\00:09:27.80 cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, 00:09:27.83\00:09:32.18 with their mattocks round about. And when he had broken down 00:09:32.21\00:09:36.47 the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images 00:09:36.50\00:09:40.09 into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all 00:09:40.12\00:09:44.40 the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem. 00:09:44.43\00:09:47.55 Now in the 18th year of his reign, when he had purged 00:09:47.58\00:09:52.43 the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, 00:09:52.46\00:09:57.21 and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of 00:09:57.24\00:10:03.33 Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the Lord his God. 00:10:03.36\00:10:08.07 And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered 00:10:08.10\00:10:12.70 the money that was brought unto the house of God, 00:10:12.73\00:10:14.97 which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand 00:10:15.00\00:10:18.74 of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, 00:10:18.77\00:10:21.57 and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem. 00:10:21.60\00:10:25.64 And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the 00:10:25.67\00:10:29.03 oversight of the house of the Lord, and they gave it to the 00:10:29.06\00:10:32.31 workmen that wrought in the house of the Lord, to repair 00:10:32.34\00:10:34.80 and amend the house: even to the artificers and builders gave 00:10:34.83\00:10:40.38 they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to 00:10:40.41\00:10:44.86 floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed. 00:10:44.89\00:10:47.90 And the men did the work faithfully: 00:10:47.93\00:10:51.65 and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, 00:10:51.68\00:10:55.73 the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah 00:10:55.76\00:10:59.60 and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites to set it forward 00:10:59.63\00:11:02.95 and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments 00:11:02.98\00:11:08.20 of music. Also they were over the bearers of burdens, 00:11:08.23\00:11:12.67 and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner 00:11:12.70\00:11:16.75 of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers 00:11:16.78\00:11:21.79 and porters. And when they brought out the money 00:11:21.82\00:11:25.74 that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest 00:11:25.77\00:11:28.92 found a book of the law of the Lord given by Moses. 00:11:28.95\00:11:32.82 And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, 00:11:32.85\00:11:36.64 I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. 00:11:36.67\00:11:39.99 And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan. And Shaphan 00:11:40.02\00:11:44.81 carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back 00:11:44.84\00:11:48.15 again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, 00:11:48.18\00:11:51.77 they do it.
