Hello, and welcome to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE 00:00:17.17\00:00:18.86 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for coming apart with me 00:00:18.89\00:00:21.98 for these few minutes here to read the word of God 00:00:22.01\00:00:24.34 in the book of Judges, the story of God's people Israel 00:00:24.37\00:00:27.17 during the time when the judges ruled over them. 00:00:27.20\00:00:29.40 Before we start, lets pray together. 00:00:29.43\00:00:31.26 Dear God, thank you so much for bringing us to this moment in 00:00:31.29\00:00:36.80 time to hear your word. Please send the Holy Spirit to take 00:00:36.83\00:00:40.71 these words and inscribe them on our hearts to bear fruit 00:00:40.74\00:00:45.12 not just to hear, but that we may do them and learn the lesson 00:00:45.15\00:00:49.63 for your glory. We love you so much 00:00:49.66\00:00:51.65 and thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:00:51.68\00:00:53.44 We're reading in Judges, starting now in chapter 17, 00:00:53.47\00:00:58.42 and this is the King James Version. 00:00:58.45\00:00:59.71 And there was a man of mount Ephraim. His name was Micah. 00:00:59.74\00:01:04.41 And he said unto his mother, The 1100 shekels of silver 00:01:04.44\00:01:09.53 that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, 00:01:09.56\00:01:13.15 and spakest of also in mine ear, behold, the silver is with me; 00:01:13.18\00:01:18.30 I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, 00:01:18.33\00:01:23.16 my son. And when he had restored the 1100 shekels of silver 00:01:23.19\00:01:27.78 to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly dedicated 00:01:27.81\00:01:31.22 the silver unto the Lord from my hand for my son, 00:01:31.25\00:01:34.42 to make a graven image and a molten image: now therefore 00:01:34.45\00:01:38.77 I will restore it unto thee. Yet he restored the money 00:01:38.80\00:01:42.74 unto his mother; and his mother took 200 shekels of silver 00:01:42.77\00:01:45.74 and gave them to the founder, who made thereof a graven image 00:01:45.77\00:01:50.56 and a molten image: and they were in the house of Micah. 00:01:50.59\00:01:54.43 And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, 00:01:54.46\00:01:59.49 and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, 00:01:59.52\00:02:02.12 who became his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel 00:02:02.15\00:02:07.24 but every man did that which was right in his own eyes. 00:02:07.27\00:02:11.04 And there was a young man out of Bethlehem-judah of the family 00:02:11.07\00:02:15.36 of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there. 00:02:15.39\00:02:18.64 And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehem-judah 00:02:18.67\00:02:22.31 to sojourn where he could find a place: 00:02:22.34\00:02:24.55 and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, 00:02:24.58\00:02:27.90 as he journeyed. And Micah said unto him, Whence comest 00:02:27.93\00:02:32.51 thou? And he said unto him, I am a Levite of Bethlehem-judah. 00:02:32.54\00:02:36.69 and I go to sojourn where I may find a place. 00:02:36.72\00:02:40.04 And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me 00:02:40.07\00:02:44.05 a father and a priest, and I will give thee 10 shekels 00:02:44.08\00:02:47.27 of silver by the year and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals. 00:02:47.30\00:02:51.17 So the Levite went in. And the Levite was content to dwell 00:02:51.20\00:02:55.82 with the man; and the young man was unto him 00:02:55.85\00:02:58.31 as one of his sons. And Micah consecrated the Levite; 00:02:58.34\00:03:02.02 and the young man became his priest, 00:03:02.05\00:03:03.76 and was in the house of Micah. Then said Micah, Now know 00:03:03.79\00:03:09.19 I that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have a Levite 00:03:09.22\00:03:12.90 to my priest. Continuing in the book 00:03:12.93\00:03:16.22 of Judges, chapter 18, and this is the King James Version. 00:03:16.25\00:03:19.27 In those days, there was no king in Israel: 00:03:19.30\00:03:24.03 and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought the 00:03:24.06\00:03:27.71 and inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day 00:03:27.74\00:03:31.02 all their inheritance had not fallen unto them 00:03:31.05\00:03:33.26 among the tribes of Israel. And the children of Dan 00:03:33.29\00:03:36.21 sent of their family, five men from their coasts, men of valor, 00:03:36.24\00:03:40.38 from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, 00:03:40.41\00:03:43.79 and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search 00:03:43.82\00:03:47.20 the land: who when they came to Mount Ephraim, 00:03:47.23\00:03:50.04 to the house of Micah, they lodged there. 00:03:50.07\00:03:52.59 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice 00:03:52.62\00:03:56.69 of the young man, the Levite: and they turned in thither, 00:03:56.72\00:03:59.83 and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what makest 00:03:59.86\00:04:03.09 thou in this place? and what hast thou here? 00:04:03.12\00:04:05.43 And he said unto them, Thus and thus dealeth Micah with me, 00:04:05.46\00:04:09.80 and hath hired me, and I am his priest. 00:04:09.83\00:04:11.29 And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, 00:04:11.32\00:04:15.72 that we may know whether our way which we go 00:04:15.75\00:04:18.93 shall be prosperous. And the priest said unto them, 00:04:18.96\00:04:23.04 Go in peace: before the Lord is your way wherein ye go. 00:04:23.07\00:04:27.73 Then the five men departed, and came to Laish and saw the people 00:04:27.76\00:04:32.63 that were therein, how they dwelt careless after the manner 00:04:32.66\00:04:37.57 of the Zidonians, quiet and secure; and there was no 00:04:37.60\00:04:43.04 magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame 00:04:43.07\00:04:46.19 in anything; and they were far from the Zidonians, 00:04:46.22\00:04:49.66 and had no business with any man. 00:04:49.69\00:04:51.79 And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: 00:04:51.82\00:04:56.02 and their brethren said unto them, What say ye? 00:04:56.05\00:04:57.96 And they said, Arise, that we may go up against them: 00:04:57.99\00:05:01.40 for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good: 00:05:01.43\00:05:03.71 and are ye still? be not slothful to go, 00:05:03.74\00:05:06.82 and to enter to possess the land. When ye go, 00:05:06.85\00:05:10.16 ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land. 00:05:10.19\00:05:13.09 For God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is 00:05:13.12\00:05:16.36 no want of any thing that is in the earth. 00:05:16.39\00:05:19.04 And there went from thence of the family of the Danites, 00:05:19.07\00:05:23.42 out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, 600 men appointed with weapons 00:05:23.45\00:05:28.10 of war. And they went up, and pitched in Kirjathjearim, 00:05:28.13\00:05:32.49 in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahanehdan 00:05:32.52\00:05:37.13 unto this day: behold, it is behind Kirjathjearim. 00:05:37.16\00:05:41.29 And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came 00:05:41.32\00:05:45.31 unto the house of Micah. Then answered the five men that went 00:05:45.34\00:05:49.04 to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, 00:05:49.07\00:05:51.93 Do ye know that there is in these houses and ephod, 00:05:51.96\00:05:56.01 and a teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? 00:05:56.04\00:06:00.09 now therefore consider what ye have to do. 00:06:00.12\00:06:03.25 And they turned thitherward, and came to the house of 00:06:03.28\00:06:06.93 the young man, the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and 00:06:06.96\00:06:09.38 saluted him. And the 600 men appointed with their weapons 00:06:09.41\00:06:13.57 of war, which were of the children of Dan, 00:06:13.60\00:06:15.75 stood by the entering of the gate. And the five men 00:06:15.78\00:06:19.98 that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, 00:06:20.01\00:06:23.48 and took the graven image: and the ephod and the teraphim, 00:06:23.51\00:06:27.42 and the molten image: and the priest stood in the entering 00:06:27.45\00:06:31.18 of the gate with the 600 men that were appointed 00:06:31.21\00:06:33.64 with weapons of war. And these went into Micah's house, 00:06:33.67\00:06:37.72 and fetched the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, 00:06:37.75\00:06:40.85 and the molten image. Then said the priest unto them, 00:06:40.88\00:06:43.84 What do ye? And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, 00:06:43.87\00:06:47.91 lay thine hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, 00:06:47.94\00:06:51.15 and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to 00:06:51.18\00:06:55.74 be a priest unto the house of one man, 00:06:55.77\00:06:57.78 or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel? 00:06:57.81\00:07:01.81 And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, 00:07:01.84\00:07:06.05 and the teraphim, and the graven image, 00:07:06.08\00:07:07.67 and went in the midst of the people. So they turned 00:07:07.70\00:07:10.99 and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle 00:07:11.02\00:07:13.42 and the carriage before them. 00:07:13.45\00:07:14.84 And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, 00:07:14.87\00:07:18.23 the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house 00:07:18.26\00:07:21.45 were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan. 00:07:21.48\00:07:25.35 And they cried unto the children of Dan. 00:07:25.38\00:07:29.69 And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, 00:07:29.72\00:07:32.11 What ailest the, that thou comest with such a company? 00:07:32.14\00:07:35.35 And he said, Ye have taken away my gods which I made, 00:07:35.38\00:07:40.64 and the priest, and ye are gone away: and what have I more? 00:07:40.67\00:07:44.51 and what is this that ye say unto me, What aileth thee? 00:07:44.54\00:07:48.32 And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice 00:07:48.35\00:07:53.03 be heard among us, lest angry fellows run upon thee, and 00:07:53.06\00:07:56.32 thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household. 00:07:56.35\00:07:58.90 And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw 00:07:58.93\00:08:03.69 that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back 00:08:03.72\00:08:06.30 unto his house. And they took the things which Micah had made, 00:08:06.33\00:08:10.31 and the priest which he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people 00:08:10.34\00:08:15.40 that were at quiet and secure: and they smote them 00:08:15.43\00:08:19.63 with the edge of the sword, and burnt the city with fire. 00:08:19.66\00:08:22.69 And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, 00:08:22.72\00:08:26.85 And they had no business with any man; 00:08:26.88\00:08:29.27 And it was in the valley that lieth by Bethrehob, 00:08:29.30\00:08:32.78 And they built a city, and dwelt therein. 00:08:32.81\00:08:34.95 And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan 00:08:34.98\00:08:38.61 their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name 00:08:38.64\00:08:42.34 of the city was Laish at the first. And the children of Dan 00:08:42.37\00:08:46.30 set up the graven image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, 00:08:46.33\00:08:50.28 the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe 00:08:50.32\00:08:54.27 of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land. 00:08:54.30\00:08:57.03 And they set them up Micah's graven image, 00:08:57.06\00:09:00.58 which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh. 00:09:00.61\00:09:04.67 We're continuing in the book of Judges, chapter 19 00:09:04.71\00:09:08.92 and this is the King James Version. 00:09:08.95\00:09:11.14 And it came to pass in those days, that there was no king 00:09:11.17\00:09:16.83 in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning 00:09:16.86\00:09:20.20 on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine 00:09:20.23\00:09:25.12 out of Bethlehem-judah. And his concubine played the whore 00:09:25.15\00:09:29.52 against him and went away from him unto her father's house 00:09:29.55\00:09:33.04 to Bethlehem-judah, and was there four whole months. 00:09:33.07\00:09:36.34 And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly 00:09:36.37\00:09:40.47 unto her and to bring her again, having his servant 00:09:40.50\00:09:43.62 with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into 00:09:43.65\00:09:47.50 her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him 00:09:47.53\00:09:51.20 he rejoiced to meet him. And his father in law, the damsel's 00:09:51.23\00:09:55.35 father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: 00:09:55.38\00:09:58.37 So they did eat and drink, and lodged there. 00:09:58.40\00:10:01.70 And it came to pass on the 4th day, when they arose 00:10:01.73\00:10:05.51 early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: 00:10:05.54\00:10:08.29 and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, 00:10:08.32\00:10:11.92 Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward 00:10:11.95\00:10:16.46 go your way. And they sat down, and did eat and drink, 00:10:16.49\00:10:20.94 both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto 00:10:20.97\00:10:24.12 the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, 00:10:24.15\00:10:27.46 and let thine heart be merry. And when the man rose up 00:10:27.49\00:10:31.47 to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore 00:10:31.50\00:10:35.09 he lodged there again. And he arose early in the morning 00:10:35.12\00:10:38.91 on the 5th day to depart: and the damsel's father said, 00:10:38.94\00:10:43.07 Comfort thine heart I pray thee, and they tarried until afternoon 00:10:43.10\00:10:47.22 and they did eat both of them. And when the man rose up 00:10:47.25\00:10:51.40 to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, 00:10:51.43\00:10:54.13 his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, 00:10:54.16\00:10:57.26 Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you 00:10:57.29\00:11:01.25 tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, 00:11:01.28\00:11:06.17 that thine heart may be merry; and tomorrow get you early 00:11:06.20\00:11:10.58 on your way, that thou mayest go home. But the man would not 00:11:10.61\00:11:15.11 tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over 00:11:15.14\00:11:18.60 against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; 00:11:18.63\00:11:20.74 and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine 00:11:20.77\00:11:25.58 also was with him. And when they were by Jebus, 00:11:25.61\00:11:29.27 the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, 00:11:29.30\00:11:32.87 Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city 00:11:32.90\00:11:36.47 of the Jebusites, and lodge in it. And his master said 00:11:36.50\00:11:40.82 unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a 00:11:40.85\00:11:44.38 stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; 00:11:44.41\00:11:46.81 we will pass over to Gibeah. And he said unto his servant, 00:11:46.84\00:11:51.68 Come, and let us draw near to one of these places 00:11:51.71\00:11:53.78 to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah. And they passed on 00:11:53.81\00:11:58.96 and went their way; and the sun went town upon them 00:11:58.99\00:12:01.10 when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin. 00:12:01.13\00:12:03.77 And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: 00:12:03.80\00:12:07.52 and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: 00:12:07.55\00:12:10.51 for there was no man that took them into his house for lodging. 00:12:10.54\00:12:13.50 And, behold, there came an old man from his work 00:12:13.53\00:12:17.35 out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; 00:12:17.38\00:12:21.03 and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place 00:12:21.06\00:12:24.21 were Benjamites. And when he had lifted up his eyes, 00:12:24.24\00:12:27.72 he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: 00:12:27.75\00:12:30.46 and the old man said, Whither goest thou? 00:12:30.49\00:12:32.65 and whence comest thou? And he said unto him, We are passing 00:12:32.68\00:12:35.98 from Bethlehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim: 00:12:36.01\00:12:38.79 from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehem-judah, but I am now 00:12:38.82\00:12:42.93 going to the house of the Lord; and there is no man 00:12:42.96\00:12:44.91 that receiveth me to his house. Yet there is both straw 00:12:44.94\00:12:48.38 and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also 00:12:48.41\00:12:52.23 for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man 00:12:52.26\00:12:54.88 which is with thy servants: there is no want of anything. 00:12:54.91\00:12:58.01 And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever 00:12:58.04\00:13:02.33 let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street. 00:13:02.36\00:13:07.49 So he brought him into his house and gave provender 00:13:07.52\00:13:10.39 unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat 00:13:10.42\00:13:13.55 and drink. Now as they were making their hearts merry, 00:13:13.58\00:13:17.15 behold the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, 00:13:17.18\00:13:20.03 beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake 00:13:20.06\00:13:24.34 to the master of the house, the old man, saying, bring forth 00:13:24.37\00:13:28.64 the man that came into thine house that we may know him. 00:13:28.67\00:13:31.63 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, 00:13:31.66\00:13:35.26 and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, 00:13:35.29\00:13:38.68 do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house 00:13:38.71\00:13:43.05 do not this folly. Behold here is my daughter a maiden, 00:13:43.08\00:13:47.81 and his concubine; them I will bring out now, 00:13:47.84\00:13:50.75 and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good 00:13:50.78\00:13:53.72 unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. 00:13:53.75\00:13:57.89 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his 00:13:57.92\00:14:01.59 concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, 00:14:01.62\00:14:04.10 and abused her all the night until the morning: 00:14:04.13\00:14:06.48 and when the day began to spring they let her go. 00:14:06.51\00:14:09.61 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, 00:14:09.64\00:14:12.56 and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, 00:14:12.59\00:14:15.13 till it was light. And the lord rose up in the morning, 00:14:15.16\00:14:19.04 and opened the doors of the house, and went out 00:14:19.07\00:14:20.77 to go his way: and, behold the woman his concubine was fallen 00:14:20.80\00:14:23.68 down at the door of the house, and her hands were 00:14:23.71\00:14:26.92 upon the threshhold. Thank you for joining with me 00:14:26.95\00:14:30.23 today to read in Judges. Please come back next time 00:14:30.26\00:14:32.90 to hear the word of God. Goodbye. 00:14:32.93\00:14:34.75
