Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.44\00:00:19.09 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and thank you for joining with me to read the 00:00:19.12\00:00:22.22 wonderful word of God. 00:00:22.25\00:00:23.28 But before we start, let's pray together. 00:00:23.31\00:00:25.22 Dear God, we come to You right now and ask that in a special 00:00:25.25\00:00:30.77 way the Holy Spirit will give us understanding as we read 00:00:30.80\00:00:35.32 these words that You spoke through Moses so long ago. 00:00:35.35\00:00:38.57 Bring them life to our lives today, and may we serve You 00:00:38.60\00:00:43.01 and each other better. 00:00:43.04\00:00:44.01 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us. 00:00:44.02\00:00:46.40 Amen. 00:00:46.43\00:00:48.56 When we were last together we were reading in the book 00:00:48.60\00:00:49.63 of Deuteronomy. 00:00:49.70\00:00:51.60 Moses has gathered the Israelites together and is 00:00:51.63\00:00:53.52 reviewing with them all of God's leading as He's brought them 00:00:53.55\00:00:56.50 from Egypt to Canaan. 00:00:56.53\00:00:57.81 And this is before they've crossed over the Jordan. 00:00:57.84\00:01:00.69 And as he's reviewing and giving them the various laws 00:01:00.72\00:01:03.34 and commands of the Lord. 00:01:03.37\00:01:04.79 In this particular passage he has just referenced the 00:01:04.82\00:01:08.76 Ammonite's and the Moabite's, and how they'd come to Balaam 00:01:08.79\00:01:12.60 to have Balaam curse the Israelites. 00:01:12.63\00:01:14.20 We're going to pick up now in this story as Moses is 00:01:14.23\00:01:18.80 referencing their intention to have the Israelites cursed. 00:01:18.83\00:01:22.02 And I love how he shows the power of God by saying, 00:01:22.05\00:01:26.96 even though this was meant as a curse to you, God turned it 00:01:26.99\00:01:29.67 around and made it a blessing instead. 00:01:29.70\00:01:31.26 Let's read that now: Deuteronomy, chapter 23:5. 00:01:31.29\00:01:34.84 This is the King James Version. 00:01:34.87\00:01:36.27 Nevertheless, the Lord thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; 00:01:36.30\00:01:40.79 but the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, 00:01:40.82\00:01:45.57 because the Lord thy God loved thee. 00:01:45.60\00:01:50.07 Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy 00:01:50.10\00:01:53.89 days for ever. 00:01:53.92\00:01:54.89 Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: 00:01:54.90\00:01:57.91 thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a 00:01:57.94\00:02:01.44 stranger in his land. 00:02:01.47\00:02:02.49 The children that are begotten of them shall enter into the 00:02:02.52\00:02:05.85 congregation of the Lord in their third generation. 00:02:05.88\00:02:08.68 When the host goeth forth against thine enemies, 00:02:08.71\00:02:12.06 then keep thee from every wicked thing. 00:02:12.09\00:02:14.42 If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of 00:02:14.45\00:02:18.76 uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go 00:02:18.79\00:02:23.01 abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: 00:02:23.04\00:02:26.78 But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself 00:02:26.81\00:02:30.35 with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into 00:02:30.38\00:02:33.04 the camp again. 00:02:33.07\00:02:34.12 Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou 00:02:34.15\00:02:38.21 shalt go forth abroad: and thou shalt have a paddle upon thy 00:02:38.24\00:02:41.47 weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, 00:02:41.50\00:02:44.81 thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that 00:02:44.84\00:02:49.42 which cometh from thee: for the Lord thy God walketh in the 00:02:49.45\00:02:52.46 midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine 00:02:52.49\00:02:55.00 enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: 00:02:55.03\00:02:58.84 that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee. 00:02:58.87\00:03:02.75 Thou shalt not deliver unto his master the servant which is 00:03:02.78\00:03:06.64 escaped from his master unto thee: he shall dwell with thee, 00:03:06.67\00:03:10.29 even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of 00:03:10.32\00:03:13.30 thy gates, where it liketh him best: thou shalt 00:03:13.33\00:03:16.57 not oppress him. 00:03:16.60\00:03:17.57 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, 00:03:17.58\00:03:20.55 nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. 00:03:20.58\00:03:23.05 Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, 00:03:23.08\00:03:26.67 into the house of the Lord thy God for any vow: for even both 00:03:26.70\00:03:30.73 these are abomination unto the Lord thy God. 00:03:30.76\00:03:32.96 Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, 00:03:32.99\00:03:38.98 usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury: 00:03:39.01\00:03:43.31 unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury; but unto thy brother 00:03:43.34\00:03:47.99 thou shalt not lend upon usury: that the Lord thy God may bless 00:03:48.02\00:03:52.47 thee in all that thou settest thine hand to in the land 00:03:52.50\00:03:55.92 whither thou goest to possess it. 00:03:55.95\00:03:57.90 When thou shalt vow a vow unto the Lord thy God, thou shalt not 00:03:57.93\00:04:02.49 slack to pay it: for the Lord thy God will surely require it 00:04:02.52\00:04:06.44 of thee; and it would be sin in thee. 00:04:06.47\00:04:08.84 But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in thee. 00:04:08.87\00:04:13.85 That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and 00:04:13.88\00:04:17.75 perform; even a freewill offering, according as thou hast 00:04:17.78\00:04:21.59 vowed unto the Lord thy God, which thou hast promised 00:04:21.62\00:04:25.01 with thy mouth. 00:04:25.04\00:04:26.01 When thou comest into thy neighbor's vineyard, 00:04:26.02\00:04:28.83 then thou mayest eat grapes thy fill at thine own pleasure; 00:04:28.86\00:04:32.39 but thou shalt not put any in thy vessel. 00:04:32.42\00:04:35.35 When thou comest into the standing corn of thy neighbor, 00:04:35.38\00:04:39.14 then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou shalt 00:04:39.17\00:04:42.61 not move a sickle unto thy neighbor's standing corn. 00:04:42.64\00:04:45.46 We're continuing to read in Deuteronomy, chapter 24, 00:04:45.49\00:04:49.27 and this is the King James Version. 00:04:49.30\00:04:50.90 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to 00:04:50.93\00:04:55.18 pass that she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found 00:04:55.21\00:04:58.90 some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of 00:04:58.93\00:05:02.64 divorcement, and give it in her hand, 00:05:02.67\00:05:04.53 and send her out of his house. 00:05:04.56\00:05:06.51 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be 00:05:06.54\00:05:09.91 another man's wife. 00:05:09.94\00:05:10.91 And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of 00:05:10.92\00:05:14.54 divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out 00:05:14.57\00:05:17.15 of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her 00:05:17.18\00:05:20.93 to be his wife; her former husband, which sent her away, 00:05:20.96\00:05:24.39 may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is 00:05:24.42\00:05:27.80 defiled; for that is abomination before the Lord: and thou shalt 00:05:27.83\00:05:31.98 not cause the land to sin, which the Lord thy God giveth thee 00:05:32.01\00:05:34.77 for an inheritance. 00:05:34.80\00:05:35.87 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to 00:05:35.90\00:05:39.39 war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall 00:05:39.42\00:05:42.49 be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which 00:05:42.52\00:05:45.39 he hath taken. 00:05:45.42\00:05:46.39 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: 00:05:46.40\00:05:51.15 for he taketh a man's life to pledge. 00:05:51.18\00:05:53.67 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children 00:05:53.70\00:05:57.38 of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, 00:05:57.41\00:06:00.45 or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put 00:06:00.48\00:06:04.52 evil away from among you. 00:06:04.55\00:06:06.29 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe 00:06:06.32\00:06:10.16 diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites 00:06:10.19\00:06:14.21 shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. 00:06:14.24\00:06:18.84 Remember what the Lord thy God did unto Miriam by the way, 00:06:18.87\00:06:23.02 after that ye were come forth out of Egypt. 00:06:23.05\00:06:25.77 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go 00:06:25.80\00:06:28.85 into his house to fetch his pledge. 00:06:28.88\00:06:30.94 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall 00:06:30.97\00:06:34.29 bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. 00:06:34.32\00:06:36.40 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: 00:06:36.43\00:06:40.64 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the 00:06:40.67\00:06:43.89 sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, 00:06:43.92\00:06:46.42 and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before 00:06:46.45\00:06:49.32 the Lord thy God. 00:06:49.35\00:06:50.32 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, 00:06:50.33\00:06:54.63 whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in 00:06:54.66\00:06:58.29 thy land within thy gates: at his day thou shalt give him his 00:06:58.32\00:07:02.31 hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, 00:07:02.34\00:07:06.44 and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto 00:07:06.47\00:07:09.97 the Lord, and it be sin unto thee. 00:07:10.00\00:07:11.55 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, 00:07:11.58\00:07:15.10 neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: 00:07:15.13\00:07:17.73 every man shall be put to death for his own sin. 00:07:17.76\00:07:21.06 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, 00:07:21.09\00:07:24.21 nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge: 00:07:24.24\00:07:28.57 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, 00:07:28.60\00:07:32.17 and the Lord thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I 00:07:32.20\00:07:35.00 command thee to do this thing. 00:07:35.03\00:07:36.74 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, 00:07:36.77\00:07:40.10 and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again 00:07:40.13\00:07:43.90 to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, 00:07:43.93\00:07:46.45 for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the Lord thy God 00:07:46.48\00:07:50.42 may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. 00:07:50.45\00:07:53.30 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the 00:07:53.33\00:07:57.68 boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, 00:07:57.71\00:07:59.76 for the fatherless, and for the widow. 00:07:59.79\00:08:02.09 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not 00:08:02.12\00:08:06.28 glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, 00:08:06.31\00:08:09.43 for the fatherless, and for the widow. 00:08:09.46\00:08:11.62 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land 00:08:11.65\00:08:16.14 of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing. 00:08:16.17\00:08:20.46 We're continuing to read in Deuteronomy, chapter 25. 00:08:20.49\00:08:25.20 This is the King James Version. 00:08:25.23\00:08:26.95 If there be a controversy between men, and thy come unto 00:08:26.98\00:08:31.82 judgment, that the judges may judge them; 00:09:51.76\00:09:55.66 then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of 00:09:55.69\00:09:58.88 the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in 00:09:58.91\00:10:03.15 his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto 00:10:03.18\00:10:07.73 that man that will not build up his brother's house. 00:10:07.76\00:10:11.04 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him 00:10:11.07\00:10:14.43 that hath his shoe loosed. 00:10:14.46\00:10:16.66 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of 00:10:16.69\00:10:21.06 the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the 00:10:21.09\00:10:24.59 hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, 00:10:24.62\00:10:27.99 and taketh him by the secrets: then thou 00:10:28.02\00:10:30.89 shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her. 00:10:30.92\00:10:34.25 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, 00:10:34.28\00:10:37.59 a great and a small. 00:10:37.62\00:10:38.65 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, 00:10:38.68\00:10:42.06 a great and a small. 00:10:42.09\00:10:43.56 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and 00:10:43.59\00:10:48.67 just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened 00:10:48.70\00:10:53.04 in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 00:10:53.07\00:10:55.87 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, 00:10:55.90\00:11:00.04 are an abomination unto the Lord thy God. 00:11:00.07\00:11:02.45 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were 00:11:02.48\00:11:06.49 come forth out of Egypt; how he met thee by the way, 00:11:06.52\00:11:09.20 and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind 00:11:09.23\00:11:13.05 thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. 00:11:13.08\00:11:16.56 Therefore it shall be, when the Lord thy God hath given thee 00:11:16.59\00:11:21.20 rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which 00:11:21.23\00:11:24.70 the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, 00:11:24.73\00:11:27.82 that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under 00:11:27.85\00:11:31.81 heaven;
