When we were last together
we were reading about Moses

and the
Israelites in the wilderness.

And his father-in-law
comes to visit him: Jethro.

He's heard all of the miracles
and all of the ways that God has

blessed Moses and freed the
Israelites from the Egyptians.

And so Jethro comes to him,
and Moses is glad to see him

and they talk together. And
then Jethro watches as Moses

is judging the Israelites
that line up and bring to Moses

all of their
problems throughout the day.

And at the end of the
day Jethro says to Moses:

Why are you doing
this? This isn't a good thing

you are doing. And it struck
me as we were reading this that

rather than get sort of
indignant or offended in any way

and say something like
"Well, God's just used me to

free the Israelites and you
dare to say that what I'm doing

is the wrong thing? "
Instead, Moses is humble,
00:01:41.65\00:01:44.16
and he listens to the
counsel of his father-in-law.

And he goes ahead and appoints
the different judges to handle

the smaller matters
and conserve his strength.

And I thought what a
lesson in humility and in wisdom

Moses gives to each
of us by that example.

just told God through Moses
