Hi and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:16.13\00:00:18.20 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you 00:00:18.30\00:00:20.15 for joining with me today 00:00:20.25\00:00:21.34 to read the book of Exodus 00:00:21.44\00:00:23.56 in the Word of God. But before we read, 00:00:23.69\00:00:25.66 let's pray together. 00:00:25.76\00:00:26.80 Dear God, thank You so much for this opportunity 00:00:27.55\00:00:30.51 to be in Your presence and read Your words for these next 00:00:30.62\00:00:33.52 few minutes. Please come and be with us 00:00:33.62\00:00:36.14 and help us to find in these words something that You 00:00:36.24\00:00:41.96 would have each of us to take away and apply to the 00:00:42.06\00:00:45.18 situations that we are each facing. 00:00:45.28\00:00:47.07 You know what our needs are. 00:00:47.27\00:00:48.98 Before we have even asked for them You have the answers. 00:00:49.18\00:00:51.82 And so now be with us as we read. 00:00:52.02\00:00:54.25 Give us Your guidance, Your truth. 00:00:54.45\00:00:56.40 May we see You. We love You so much, 00:00:56.60\00:00:58.94 and thank You for loving us. Amen. 00:00:59.14\00:01:01.02 When we were last together we were reading the story of how 00:01:01.85\00:01:05.08 God brought the Israelites absolutely miraculously 00:01:05.18\00:01:09.00 through the Red Sea. They thought that they were 00:01:09.10\00:01:11.43 going to die there with the sea in front of them and Pharaoh 00:01:11.53\00:01:13.95 and his armies behind them. 00:01:14.05\00:01:15.48 But God opened up a way for them and they came through 00:01:15.68\00:01:17.96 on dry ground. And once they got to the other side, 00:01:18.06\00:01:20.44 they were singing His praises and just dancing for joy. 00:01:20.54\00:01:23.42 And then it wasn't just a few days later they were out in the 00:01:23.62\00:01:26.11 wilderness and afraid they were going to die for lack of water, 00:01:26.21\00:01:29.03 lack of food. And I was reading that and I was thinking 00:01:29.14\00:01:32.48 how often in my life that same lack of faith comes 00:01:32.58\00:01:36.27 and how I don't want to be like the Israelites. 00:01:36.41\00:01:38.35 I want to realize that the same God who has brought me safely 00:01:38.56\00:01:42.04 this far is going to take me safely on to His kingdom, 00:01:42.14\00:01:45.70 His home in His own time. And that goes for each of us. 00:01:45.80\00:01:48.53 Let's read on now about the Israelites as they are walking 00:01:48.74\00:01:52.91 through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. 00:01:53.01\00:01:55.06 We are reading in Exodus 16 and we are picking up on 00:01:55.16\00:01:59.02 verse 10: 00:01:59.12\00:02:00.32 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole 00:02:02.16\00:02:05.67 congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward 00:02:05.77\00:02:08.43 the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared 00:02:08.53\00:02:11.40 in the cloud. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 00:02:11.50\00:02:14.73 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: 00:02:14.93\00:02:17.63 speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, 00:02:17.83\00:02:22.07 and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; 00:02:22.18\00:02:24.52 and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God. 00:02:24.72\00:02:27.38 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, 00:02:27.58\00:02:31.47 and covered the camp: and in the morning, 00:02:31.57\00:02:33.55 the dew lay round about the host. 00:02:33.65\00:02:35.93 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, 00:02:36.13\00:02:39.78 upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, 00:02:39.88\00:02:43.60 as small as the hoar frost on the ground. 00:02:43.70\00:02:46.63 And when the children of Israel saw it they said one to another, 00:02:46.84\00:02:49.41 It is manna: for they wist not what it was. 00:02:49.51\00:02:52.85 And Moses said unto them, this is the bread which the Lord 00:02:53.05\00:02:56.05 has given you to eat. 00:02:56.15\00:02:57.33 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, 00:02:57.53\00:02:59.77 Gather of it every man according to his eating, 00:02:59.87\00:03:02.83 an omer for every man, according to the number of your 00:03:02.94\00:03:06.05 persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. 00:03:06.15\00:03:10.20 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, 00:03:10.40\00:03:13.20 some more, some less. 00:03:13.30\00:03:14.73 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that 00:03:14.93\00:03:18.32 gathered much had nothing over, 00:03:18.42\00:03:20.31 and he that gathered little had no lack; 00:03:20.41\00:03:22.88 they gathered every man according to his eating. 00:03:22.98\00:03:25.76 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 00:03:25.97\00:03:29.16 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; 00:03:29.36\00:03:32.57 but some of them left of it until the morning, 00:03:32.78\00:03:34.95 and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. 00:03:35.15\00:03:38.78 And they gathered it every morning, 00:03:38.98\00:03:41.21 every man according to his eating: 00:03:41.24\00:03:43.44 and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. 00:03:43.54\00:03:46.39 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered 00:03:46.59\00:03:49.74 twice as much bread, two omers for one man: 00:03:49.88\00:03:52.76 and all the rulers of the congregation came 00:03:52.86\00:03:55.49 and told Moses. 00:03:55.59\00:03:56.99 And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, 00:03:57.19\00:04:01.68 Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the Lord: 00:04:01.88\00:04:05.76 bake that which ye will bake today, 00:04:05.97\00:04:09.02 and seethe that ye will seethe; 00:04:09.22\00:04:11.42 and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept 00:04:11.52\00:04:15.01 until the morning. And they laid it up till the morning, 00:04:15.11\00:04:18.63 as Moses bade: and it did not stink, 00:04:18.73\00:04:21.55 neither was there any worm therein. 00:04:21.65\00:04:23.57 And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is a Sabbath 00:04:23.77\00:04:27.60 unto the Lord: today you shall not find it in the field. 00:04:27.70\00:04:30.36 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, 00:04:30.56\00:04:34.04 which is the Sabbath, in it there shall be none. 00:04:34.14\00:04:37.91 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people 00:04:38.11\00:04:41.35 on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. 00:04:41.46\00:04:45.21 And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye 00:04:45.42\00:04:49.85 to keep My commandments and My laws? 00:04:49.95\00:04:51.91 See, for that the Lord hath given you the Sabbath, 00:04:52.11\00:04:54.99 therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; 00:04:55.10\00:04:58.98 abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place 00:04:59.08\00:05:03.78 on the seventh day. 00:05:03.88\00:05:04.93 So the people rested on the seventh day. 00:05:05.13\00:05:08.13 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: 00:05:08.33\00:05:12.02 and it was like coriander seed, white; 00:05:12.12\00:05:15.56 and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 00:05:15.66\00:05:18.66 And Moses said, This is the thing which the Lord commandeth, 00:05:18.86\00:05:22.05 Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; 00:05:22.25\00:05:25.28 that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you 00:05:25.48\00:05:28.53 in the wilderness, when I brought you forth 00:05:28.63\00:05:30.96 from the land of Egypt. 00:05:31.06\00:05:32.31 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, 00:05:32.51\00:05:34.51 and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up 00:05:34.61\00:05:37.26 before the Lord, to be kept for your generations. 00:05:37.36\00:05:39.61 As the Lord commanded Moses, 00:05:39.81\00:05:41.91 so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. 00:05:42.01\00:05:44.88 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, 00:05:45.08\00:05:48.22 until they came to a land inhabited; 00:05:48.32\00:05:50.97 they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders 00:05:51.07\00:05:53.59 of the land of Canaan. 00:05:53.69\00:05:54.95 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. 00:05:55.15\00:05:58.80 We are continuing to read 00:05:59.00\00:06:00.56 in Exodus and this is chapter 17 00:06:00.66\00:06:02.89 the King James version. 00:06:03.03\00:06:04.28 And all the congregation of the children of Israel 00:06:04.58\00:06:08.02 journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, 00:06:08.12\00:06:11.10 according to the commandment of the Lord, 00:06:11.20\00:06:12.72 and pitched in Rephidim: 00:06:12.82\00:06:14.92 and there was no water for the people to drink. 00:06:15.02\00:06:17.49 Wherefore, the people did chide with Moses, and said, 00:06:17.69\00:06:21.05 Give us water that we may drink. 00:06:21.15\00:06:22.95 Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? 00:06:23.15\00:06:26.47 wherefore do ye tempt the Lord? 00:06:26.57\00:06:28.02 And the people thirsted there for water; 00:06:28.05\00:06:30.58 and the people murmured against Moses, and said, 00:06:30.68\00:06:32.82 Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, 00:06:32.92\00:06:36.42 to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst? 00:06:36.53\00:06:39.39 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, 00:06:39.59\00:06:42.21 What shall I do unto this people? 00:06:42.42\00:06:44.38 they be almost ready to stone me. 00:06:44.48\00:06:46.59 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, 00:06:46.89\00:06:50.53 and take with thee of the elders of Israel; 00:06:50.63\00:06:53.30 and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, 00:06:53.41\00:06:56.26 take in thine hand, and go. 00:06:56.36\00:06:58.70 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; 00:06:58.90\00:07:03.03 and thou shalt smite the rock, 00:07:03.13\00:07:04.99 and there shall come water out of it, 00:07:05.09\00:07:07.17 that the people may drink. 00:07:07.27\00:07:08.74 And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 00:07:08.77\00:07:12.11 And he called the name of the place Masah, 00:07:12.31\00:07:14.81 and Meribah, because of the chiding of the 00:07:14.91\00:07:17.43 children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, 00:07:17.53\00:07:20.63 Is the Lord among us, or not? 00:07:20.73\00:07:23.35 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 00:07:23.55\00:07:27.77 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, 00:07:27.90\00:07:30.84 and go out, fight with Amalek: 00:07:30.95\00:07:32.83 tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the 00:07:32.93\00:07:35.83 rod of God in mine hand. 00:07:36.01\00:07:37.37 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him 00:07:37.60\00:07:40.56 and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur 00:07:40.60\00:07:44.75 went up to the top of the hill. 00:07:44.85\00:07:46.92 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, 00:07:47.12\00:07:51.05 that Israel prevailed: 00:07:51.16\00:07:52.29 and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 00:07:52.49\00:07:55.72 But Moses' hands were heavy; 00:07:55.92\00:07:58.23 and they took a stone, and put it under him, 00:07:58.33\00:08:00.31 and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, 00:08:00.41\00:08:04.48 the one on the one side, the other on the other side; 00:08:04.58\00:08:07.33 and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 00:08:07.43\00:08:11.76 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people 00:08:12.06\00:08:15.65 with the edge of the sword. 00:08:15.75\00:08:16.88 And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial 00:08:17.08\00:08:20.20 in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: 00:08:20.30\00:08:23.50 for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek 00:08:23.60\00:08:26.92 from under heaven. 00:08:27.02\00:08:28.11 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it 00:08:28.31\00:08:31.24 Jehovahnissi: 00:08:31.34\00:08:33.07 For he said, Because the Lord hath sworn that the Lord will 00:08:33.17\00:08:36.81 have war with Amalek from generation to generation. 00:08:36.95\00:08:41.01 Continuing with the book of Exodus, and this is chapter 18 00:08:41.21\00:08:45.19 in the King James version. 00:08:45.39\00:08:46.80 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, 00:08:47.00\00:08:51.38 heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel 00:08:51.48\00:08:55.00 his people, and that the Lord had brought Israel out of Egypt; 00:08:55.10\00:08:58.41 Then Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took Zipporah, 00:08:58.51\00:09:02.40 Moses' wife, after he had sent her back, And her two sons; 00:09:02.50\00:09:06.13 of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, 00:09:06.23\00:09:09.68 I have been an alien in a strange land: 00:09:09.78\00:09:11.90 And the name of the other was Eliezer; 00:09:12.10\00:09:14.36 for the God of my father, said he, was my help, 00:09:14.46\00:09:17.20 and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh: 00:09:17.30\00:09:19.47 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his 00:09:19.67\00:09:23.71 sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, 00:09:23.81\00:09:26.41 where he encamped at the mount of God: 00:09:26.61\00:09:28.85 And he said unto Moses, I thy father-in-law Jethro 00:09:28.95\00:09:32.13 have come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her. 00:09:32.23\00:09:35.91 And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance 00:09:36.11\00:09:39.46 and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; 00:09:39.56\00:09:42.75 and they came into the tent. 00:09:42.85\00:09:44.58 Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done 00:09:44.78\00:09:48.18 unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, 00:09:48.28\00:09:51.18 and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, 00:09:51.28\00:09:54.09 and how the Lord delivered them. 00:09:54.19\00:09:56.12 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the Lord had done 00:09:56.22\00:09:59.24 to Israel, whom He had delivered 00:09:59.34\00:10:01.26 out of the hand of the Egyptians. 00:10:01.36\00:10:02.90 And Jethro said, Blessed be the Lord, who hath delivered you 00:10:03.10\00:10:06.61 out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, 00:10:06.71\00:10:09.46 who hath delivered the people from under the hand 00:10:09.56\00:10:12.37 of the Egyptians. Now I know that the Lord is greater 00:10:12.47\00:10:15.84 than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly 00:10:15.94\00:10:19.76 He was above them. 00:10:19.86\00:10:21.30 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law took a burnt offering 00:10:21.50\00:10:25.57 and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all 00:10:25.67\00:10:29.18 the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law 00:10:29.28\00:10:32.53 before God.
