Hi, and welcome back to His Words are Life. 00:00:17.22\00:00:19.71 I'm Kelly Mowrer and thank you for being with me today 00:00:19.74\00:00:22.57 to read in the book of Exodus. And before we start, 00:00:22.60\00:00:25.08 let's pray together. Dear Jesus, thank you so much that we have 00:00:25.11\00:00:30.00 great stories that we are going to be reading in the book of 00:00:30.03\00:00:33.45 Exodus, how you came down and led your children, Israel out of 00:00:33.48\00:00:38.31 the land of Egypt, and brought them from being slaves to being 00:00:38.34\00:00:42.48 free and blest by you. And we know that you came from heaven 00:00:42.51\00:00:47.34 and you brought each of us out of the slavery of sin. 00:00:47.37\00:00:50.09 We are free indeed because of the gift you have given to us 00:00:50.12\00:00:54.05 that we will never earn, never repay. But we want to show you 00:00:54.08\00:00:57.91 our thanksgiving for it. And the way to do that is to hear your 00:00:57.94\00:01:01.84 words, grow in faith, and do your will. Please help us to 00:01:01.87\00:01:05.86 to that. We love you so much. Thank you for loving us. Amen. 00:01:05.89\00:01:09.21 We're reading today from the book of Exodus, and the children 00:01:09.24\00:01:14.57 of Israel have grown into a great and exceeding host of 00:01:14.60\00:01:18.42 children and people. Pharaoh who was not the Pharaoh who knew 00:01:18.45\00:01:23.03 Joseph. The new Pharaoh doesn't know Joseph and he's concerned 00:01:23.06\00:01:25.86 that the Israelites are too great in numbers. So they make 00:01:25.89\00:01:28.36 them into slaves and press them into service. We're picking up 00:01:28.39\00:01:32.52 in Exodus chapter one and verse 14. 00:01:32.55\00:01:35.11 This is the King James Version And they, speaking of the 00:01:35.14\00:01:39.21 Egyptians. And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, 00:01:39.24\00:01:43.67 in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the 00:01:43.70\00:01:47.15 field: all their service wherein they made them serve, 00:01:47.18\00:01:50.94 was with rigor. And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew 00:01:50.97\00:01:54.87 midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, 00:01:54.90\00:01:59.17 and the name of the other was Puah: And he said, 00:01:59.20\00:02:02.27 When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, 00:02:02.30\00:02:05.12 and see them upon the stools: if it be a son, then ye shall kill 00:02:05.15\00:02:10.02 him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 00:02:10.05\00:02:13.75 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king 00:02:13.78\00:02:17.64 of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. 00:02:17.67\00:02:21.19 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, 00:02:21.22\00:02:24.41 and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved 00:02:24.44\00:02:27.55 the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, 00:02:27.58\00:02:31.56 because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; 00:02:31.59\00:02:34.67 for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives 00:02:34.70\00:02:37.75 come in unto them. Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: 00:02:37.78\00:02:41.90 and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 00:02:41.93\00:02:44.98 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, 00:02:45.01\00:02:48.62 that he made them houses. And Pharaoh charged all his people, 00:02:48.65\00:02:52.31 saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, 00:02:52.34\00:02:56.45 and every daughter ye shall save alive. 00:02:56.48\00:02:59.85 We'll continue reading now in Exodus, chapter two, 00:02:59.88\00:03:03.43 This is the King James Version. And there went a man 00:03:03.46\00:03:07.72 of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. 00:03:07.75\00:03:11.55 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him 00:03:11.58\00:03:15.24 and that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. 00:03:15.27\00:03:18.89 And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him 00:03:18.92\00:03:23.13 an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, 00:03:23.16\00:03:27.92 and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags 00:03:27.95\00:03:30.87 by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off, 00:03:30.90\00:03:34.28 to wit what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh 00:03:34.31\00:03:38.51 came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked 00:03:38.54\00:03:41.72 along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the 00:03:41.75\00:03:45.54 flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had 00:03:45.57\00:03:49.42 opened it, she saw the child: and behold, the babe wept. 00:03:49.45\00:03:53.16 And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the 00:03:53.19\00:03:56.58 Hebrews' children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter 00:03:56.61\00:04:00.91 Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, 00:04:00.94\00:04:04.51 that she may nurse the child for thee? And Pharaoh's daughter 00:04:04.54\00:04:08.23 said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's 00:04:08.26\00:04:12.33 mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child 00:04:12.36\00:04:16.06 away, and nurse if for me, and I will give thee thy wages. 00:04:16.09\00:04:20.04 And the woman took the child, and nursed it. And the child 00:04:20.07\00:04:23.87 grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, 00:04:23.90\00:04:26.27 and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: 00:04:26.30\00:04:30.69 and she said, Because I drew him out of the water. 00:04:30.72\00:04:34.52 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, 00:04:34.55\00:04:38.43 that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their 00:04:38.46\00:04:41.76 burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, 00:04:41.79\00:04:45.63 one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way, 00:04:45.66\00:04:49.03 and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, 00:04:49.06\00:04:52.50 and hid him in the sand. And when he went out the second day, 00:04:52.53\00:04:57.85 behold two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said 00:04:57.88\00:05:00.66 to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou 00:05:00.69\00:05:03.09 thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge 00:05:03.12\00:05:06.44 over us? intendest thou to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian 00:05:06.47\00:05:10.05 And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known. 00:05:10.08\00:05:14.06 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. 00:05:14.09\00:05:17.93 But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land 00:05:17.96\00:05:21.61 of Midian: and he sat down by a well. Now the priest of Midian 00:05:21.64\00:05:26.19 had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, 00:05:26.22\00:05:28.83 and filled the troughs to water their father's flock. 00:05:28.86\00:05:31.65 And the shepherds came and drove them away: 00:05:31.68\00:05:34.23 but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock. 00:05:34.26\00:05:37.65 And when they came to Reuel, their father, he said, How is it 00:05:37.68\00:05:41.37 that ye are come so soon today? and they said, An Egyptian 00:05:41.40\00:05:45.98 delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew 00:05:46.01\00:05:48.59 water enough for us, and watered the flock. 00:05:48.62\00:05:51.02 And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? 00:05:51.05\00:05:54.21 why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat 00:05:54.24\00:05:57.71 bread. And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave 00:05:57.74\00:06:02.43 Moses Zipporah his daughter, and she bare him a son, 00:06:02.46\00:06:06.06 and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been 00:06:06.09\00:06:09.74 a stranger in a strange land. And it came to pass in process 00:06:09.77\00:06:14.38 of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel 00:06:14.41\00:06:18.57 sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry 00:06:18.60\00:06:23.43 came up unto God by reason of the bondage. And God heard 00:06:23.46\00:06:27.37 their groaning, and God remembered his covenant 00:06:27.40\00:06:29.75 with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 00:06:29.78\00:06:32.87 And God looked upon the children of Israel, 00:06:32.90\00:06:35.41 and God had respect unto them. Continuing now with chapter 3. 00:06:35.44\00:06:40.63 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, 00:06:40.66\00:06:44.32 the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the 00:06:44.35\00:06:48.16 desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 00:06:48.19\00:06:51.12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of 00:06:51.15\00:06:54.95 fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, 00:06:54.98\00:06:58.95 the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 00:06:58.98\00:07:02.28 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, 00:07:02.31\00:07:07.08 why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned 00:07:07.11\00:07:10.91 aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush 00:07:10.94\00:07:13.74 and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, 00:07:13.77\00:07:19.27 Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, 00:07:19.30\00:07:23.88 for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 00:07:23.91\00:07:28.02 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, 00:07:28.05\00:07:31.74 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 00:07:31.77\00:07:35.64 And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. 00:07:35.67\00:07:40.62 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people 00:07:40.65\00:07:45.24 which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of 00:07:45.27\00:07:49.05 their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come 00:07:49.08\00:07:53.39 down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, 00:07:53.42\00:07:56.55 and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land 00:07:56.58\00:08:00.77 and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; 00:08:00.80\00:08:04.77 unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, 00:08:04.80\00:08:07.55 and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, 00:08:07.58\00:08:10.14 and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of 00:08:10.17\00:08:15.07 the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen 00:08:15.10\00:08:18.49 the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 00:08:18.52\00:08:21.46 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, 00:08:21.49\00:08:24.72 that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel 00:08:24.75\00:08:28.78 out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, 00:08:28.81\00:08:33.27 that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth 00:08:33.30\00:08:35.90 the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, 00:08:35.93\00:08:39.22 Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token 00:08:39.25\00:08:42.70 unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought 00:08:42.73\00:08:46.03 forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this 00:08:46.06\00:08:49.98 mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto 00:08:50.01\00:08:54.34 the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, 00:08:54.37\00:08:56.40 The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; 00:08:56.43\00:08:59.24 and they shall say to me, What is his name? 00:08:59.27\00:09:01.55 what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, 00:09:01.58\00:09:05.95 I am that I am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the 00:09:05.98\00:09:11.55 children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 00:09:11.59\00:09:15.68 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say 00:09:15.71\00:09:20.45 unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, 00:09:20.48\00:09:23.60 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, 00:09:23.63\00:09:27.05 hath sent me unto you; this is my name for ever, 00:09:27.08\00:09:31.20 and this is my memorial unto all generations. Go, and gather 00:09:31.23\00:09:36.51 the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God 00:09:36.54\00:09:41.10 of your fathers, The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, 00:09:41.13\00:09:44.83 appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, 00:09:44.86\00:09:48.34 and seen that which is done to you in Egypt: And I have said, I 00:09:48.37\00:09:53.48 will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the 00:09:53.51\00:09:56.98 land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, 00:09:57.01\00:10:00.51 and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, 00:10:00.54\00:10:02.90 unto a land flowing with milk and honey. 00:10:02.93\00:10:06.25 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, 00:10:06.28\00:10:10.01 thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, 00:10:10.04\00:10:12.93 And ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews 00:10:12.96\00:10:16.40 hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, 00:10:16.43\00:10:20.22 three days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice 00:10:20.25\00:10:23.83 to the Lord our God. And I am sure that the king of Egypt will 00:10:23.86\00:10:28.62 not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. And I will stretch 00:10:28.65\00:10:33.76 out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I 00:10:33.79\00:10:37.98 will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let 00:10:38.01\00:10:42.02 you go. And I will give this people favor in the sight of 00:10:42.05\00:10:46.54 the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, what, when ye go, 00:10:46.57\00:10:50.24 ye shall not go empty: But every woman shall borrow 00:10:50.27\00:10:54.19 of her neighbor, and of her that sojourneth in her house, 00:10:54.22\00:10:56.96 jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment 00:10:56.99\00:11:00.03 and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; 00:11:00.06\00:11:03.00 and ye shall spoil the Egyptians 00:11:03.03\00:11:05.57 Continuing to read in the book of Exodus, in chapter 4. 00:11:05.60\00:11:10.41 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not 00:11:10.44\00:11:15.22 believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, 00:11:15.25\00:11:18.09 The Lord hath not appeared unto thee. And the Lord said unto him 00:11:18.12\00:11:21.57 What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. And he said, 00:11:21.60\00:11:28.24 cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, 00:11:28.27\00:11:31.27 and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 00:11:31.30\00:11:34.43 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, 00:11:34.46\00:11:37.81 and take it by the tail. An he put forth his hand, 00:11:37.84\00:11:41.03 and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: 00:11:41.06\00:11:43.77 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, 00:11:43.80\00:11:47.83 the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, 00:11:47.86\00:11:51.35 hath appeared unto thee. And the Lord said furthermore 00:11:51.38\00:11:54.60 unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his 00:11:54.63\00:11:58.52 hand into his bosom; and when he took it out, behold his hand 00:11:58.55\00:12:02.59 was leprous as snow. And he said, Put thine hand into thy 00:12:02.62\00:12:06.80 bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; 00:12:06.83\00:12:09.99 and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again 00:12:10.02\00:12:13.50 as his other flesh. And it shall come to pass, 00:12:13.53\00:12:17.24 if they will not believe thee, neither hearken 00:12:17.27\00:12:19.51 to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice 00:12:19.54\00:12:22.81 of the latter sign. And it shall come to pass, if they will not 00:12:22.84\00:12:26.57 believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, 00:12:26.60\00:12:29.79 that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour 00:12:29.82\00:12:33.93 it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out 00:12:33.96\00:12:38.14 of the river shall become blood upon the dry land. 00:12:38.17\00:12:40.39 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, 00:12:40.42\00:12:46.01 neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken 00:12:46.04\00:12:49.56 unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 00:12:49.59\00:12:54.39 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? 00:12:54.42\00:12:58.41 or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? 00:12:58.44\00:13:02.38 have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be 00:13:02.41\00:13:07.36 with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. 00:13:07.39\00:13:10.92 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of 00:13:10.95\00:13:16.44 whom thou wilt send. And the anger of the Lord was kindled 00:13:16.47\00:13:20.67 against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite 00:13:20.70\00:13:23.63 thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, 00:13:23.66\00:13:27.45 he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, 00:13:27.48\00:13:29.69 he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him 00:13:29.72\00:13:32.79 and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, 00:13:32.82\00:13:36.07 and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. 00:13:36.10\00:13:38.68 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be 00:13:38.71\00:13:43.52 even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be 00:13:43.55\00:13:47.77 to him instead of God. And thou shalt take this rod in thine 00:13:47.80\00:13:51.33 hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs. And Moses went and 00:13:51.36\00:13:55.31 returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, 00:13:55.34\00:13:57.46 Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren 00:13:57.49\00:14:00.89 which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. 00:14:00.92\00:14:03.96 And Jethro said to Moses, go in peace. 00:14:03.99\00:14:07.29 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: 00:14:07.32\00:14:12.09 for all the men are dead, which sought thy life. 00:14:12.12\00:14:15.63 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon 00:14:15.66\00:14:19.30 an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took 00:14:19.33\00:14:23.65 the rod of God in his hand. Please join with me 00:14:23.68\00:14:27.40 again as we read the story of Moses in Egypt. 00:14:27.43\00:14:30.02 Until then, may God keep you in his care. Goodbye 00:14:30.05\00:14:33.08
