Amen. 00:01:12.57\00:01:15.63 When we were last together we were reading the story of 00:01:15.93\00:01:19.30 Abram and Sarah going to Egypt and Abram being so concerned 00:01:19.40\00:01:23.88 about Sarah's beauty that he had her lie 00:01:23.98\00:01:26.61 and say she was his sister and not his wife. 00:01:26.71\00:01:29.16 And because of Pharaoh and his interest in Sarah 00:01:29.36\00:01:33.52 God had plagued Pharaoh's house. 00:01:33.72\00:01:36.22 Now we are picking up on this story in Genesis chapter 12, 00:01:36.42\00:01:40.08 verse 18, and this is the King James version. 00:01:40.18\00:01:43.39 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, 00:01:43.59\00:01:46.43 "What is this that thou hast done unto me? 00:01:46.63\00:01:48.83 Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? 00:01:49.03\00:01:51.34 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? 00:01:51.54\00:01:54.13 So I might have taken her to me to wife: 00:01:54.33\00:01:56.64 Now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. " 00:01:56.74\00:02:00.51 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: 00:02:00.71\00:02:03.74 and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had. 00:02:03.94\00:02:07.56 We are continuing now with Genesis chapter 13. 00:02:07.76\00:02:10.79 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, 00:02:10.99\00:02:14.58 and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. 00:02:14.78\00:02:17.80 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 00:02:18.01\00:02:22.89 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, 00:02:23.09\00:02:26.68 unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, 00:02:26.88\00:02:29.58 between Bethel and Hai; 00:02:29.78\00:02:31.67 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there 00:02:31.87\00:02:34.33 at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. 00:02:34.43\00:02:38.79 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, 00:02:38.99\00:02:43.34 and tents. And the land was not able to bear them, 00:02:43.44\00:02:46.41 that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, 00:02:46.51\00:02:49.81 so that they could not dwell together. 00:02:49.91\00:02:51.98 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle 00:02:52.18\00:02:55.51 and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle: and the 00:02:55.61\00:02:58.36 Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 00:02:58.50\00:03:01.47 And Abram said unto Lot, "Let there be no strife, 00:03:01.67\00:03:05.25 I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen 00:03:05.35\00:03:09.44 and thy herdsmen: for we be brethren. 00:03:09.54\00:03:11.85 Is not the whole land before thee? 00:03:12.05\00:03:14.37 Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: 00:03:14.57\00:03:17.61 If thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; 00:03:17.64\00:03:21.20 Or if thou depart to the right hand, 00:03:21.40\00:03:23.41 then I will go to the left. " 00:03:23.61\00:03:25.19 And Lot lifted up his eyes, 00:03:25.39\00:03:27.98 and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered 00:03:28.08\00:03:32.11 every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, 00:03:32.22\00:03:35.21 even as the garden of the Lord, 00:03:35.41\00:03:37.08 like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. 00:03:37.18\00:03:39.78 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; 00:03:39.98\00:03:43.98 and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves 00:03:44.18\00:03:48.27 the one from the other. 00:03:48.37\00:03:49.79 Abraham dwelled in the land of Canaan, 00:03:49.99\00:03:52.52 and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, 00:03:52.72\00:03:54.55 and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 00:03:54.75\00:03:57.29 But the men of Sodom were wicked 00:03:57.49\00:03:59.82 and sinners before the Lord exceedingly. 00:03:59.92\00:04:02.41 And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated 00:04:02.61\00:04:06.41 from him, "Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place 00:04:06.51\00:04:11.11 where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, 00:04:11.21\00:04:15.41 and westward: For all the land which thou seest, 00:04:15.51\00:04:18.80 to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 00:04:19.01\00:04:22.30 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: 00:04:22.50\00:04:25.56 so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, 00:04:25.76\00:04:28.55 then shall thy seed also be numbered. 00:04:28.75\00:04:31.58 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it 00:04:31.78\00:04:36.11 and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. " 00:04:36.21\00:04:39.63 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain 00:04:39.83\00:04:44.14 of Mamre, which is in Hebron, 00:04:44.24\00:04:46.31 and built there an altar unto the Lord. 00:04:46.51\00:04:48.82 We are reading now in the book 00:04:49.02\00:04:50.48 of Genesis chapter 14, and this 00:04:50.58\00:04:52.49 is the King James version. 00:04:52.59\00:04:53.72 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, 00:04:53.92\00:04:59.42 Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, 00:04:59.52\00:05:04.16 and Tidal king of nations; 00:05:04.26\00:05:05.98 That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, 00:05:06.18\00:05:09.66 and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, 00:05:09.86\00:05:11.59 Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, 00:05:11.79\00:05:16.10 and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. 00:05:16.30\00:05:18.15 All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, 00:05:18.35\00:05:21.65 which is the salt sea. 00:05:21.85\00:05:23.05 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, 00:05:23.25\00:05:26.88 and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 00:05:27.08\00:05:29.38 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, 00:05:29.58\00:05:32.66 and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim 00:05:32.76\00:05:35.64 in Ashteroth-Karnaim, and the Zurzim in Ham, 00:05:35.74\00:05:40.03 and the Emim in Shaveh-Kiriathaim, 00:05:40.23\00:05:43.38 And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, 00:05:43.59\00:05:47.16 which is by the wilderness. 00:05:47.36\00:05:48.52 And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, 00:05:48.72\00:05:53.18 and smote all the country of the Amalekites, 00:05:53.38\00:05:56.02 and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar. 00:05:56.22\00:05:59.67 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, 00:05:59.87\00:06:03.29 and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, 00:06:03.49\00:06:05.85 and the king of Bela - the same is Zoar - 00:06:06.05\00:06:08.11 and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim; 00:06:08.14\00:06:11.76 With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, 00:06:11.95\00:06:14.89 and with Tidal king of nations, 00:06:14.99\00:06:16.71 and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; 00:06:16.91\00:06:21.02 four kings with five. 00:06:21.23\00:06:23.00 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; 00:06:23.20\00:06:26.61 and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; 00:06:26.81\00:06:30.59 and they that remained fled to the mountain. 00:06:30.80\00:06:33.72 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, 00:06:33.92\00:06:37.04 and all their victuals, and went their way. 00:06:37.24\00:06:39.29 And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, 00:06:39.49\00:06:42.93 who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed. 00:06:43.13\00:06:46.31 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram 00:06:46.51\00:06:49.81 the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, 00:06:49.92\00:06:53.73 brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were 00:06:53.93\00:06:57.53 confederate with Abram. 00:06:57.63\00:06:58.98 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, 00:06:59.18\00:07:02.57 he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, 00:07:02.77\00:07:06.97 three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. 00:07:07.07\00:07:10.29 And he divided himself against them, 00:07:10.49\00:07:13.44 he and his servants, by night, and smote them, 00:07:13.64\00:07:16.64 and pursued them unto Hobah, 00:07:16.84\00:07:18.91 which is on the left hand of Damascus. 00:07:19.01\00:07:21.02 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again 00:07:21.22\00:07:24.56 his brother Lot, and his goods, 00:07:24.66\00:07:26.85 and the women also, and the people. 00:07:26.95\00:07:28.63 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return 00:07:28.83\00:07:32.92 from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, 00:07:33.12\00:07:35.06 and of the kings that were with him, 00:07:35.16\00:07:36.81 at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale. 00:07:36.91\00:07:40.18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: 00:07:40.38\00:07:44.82 and he was the priest of the most high God. 00:07:45.02\00:07:47.85 And he blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram of the most 00:07:48.06\00:07:52.37 high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 00:07:52.47\00:07:55.17 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine 00:07:55.37\00:07:58.82 enemies into thy hand. " And he gave him tithes of all. 00:07:58.92\00:08:02.92 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, "Give me the persons, 00:08:03.12\00:08:07.09 and take the goods to thyself. " 00:08:07.12\00:08:09.11 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, 00:08:09.31\00:08:11.80 "I have lift up mine hand unto the Lord, the most high God, 00:08:12.00\00:08:15.25 the possessor of heaven and earth, 00:08:15.45\00:08:18.01 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatch, 00:08:18.21\00:08:22.51 and that I will not take any thing that is thine, 00:08:22.61\00:08:25.09 lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich: 00:08:25.29\00:08:29.04 Save only that which the young men have eaten, 00:08:29.34\00:08:32.36 and the portion of the men which went with me, 00:08:32.56\00:08:34.77 Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion. " 00:08:34.87\00:08:38.93 Continuing now with chapter 15. 00:08:39.13\00:08:41.53 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram 00:08:41.73\00:08:45.24 in a vision, saying, "Fear not, Abram: 00:08:45.34\00:08:47.74 I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. " 00:08:47.94\00:08:53.01 And Abram said, "Lord God, what wilt Thou give me, 00:08:53.21\00:08:57.95 seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this 00:08:58.15\00:09:02.19 Eliezer of Damascus? " 00:09:02.29\00:09:03.97 And Abram said, "Behold, to me Thou has given no seed: 00:09:04.17\00:09:08.72 and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. " 00:09:08.92\00:09:12.02 And behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, 00:09:12.22\00:09:16.37 "This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth 00:09:16.57\00:09:21.04 out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. " 00:09:21.14\00:09:23.79 And He brought him forth abroad, and said, 00:09:23.99\00:09:26.41 "Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, 00:09:26.51\00:09:28.97 if thou be able to number them: " 00:09:29.17\00:09:30.56 and he said unto him, "So shall thy seed be. " 00:09:30.76\00:09:34.47 And he believed in the Lord; 00:09:34.77\00:09:37.39 and He counted it to him for righteousness. 00:09:37.59\00:09:40.88 And He said unto him, "I am the Lord that brought thee 00:09:41.08\00:09:44.73 out of Ur of the Chaldees, 00:09:44.83\00:09:46.48 to give thee this land to inherit it. " 00:09:46.68\00:09:48.80 And he said, "Lord God, whereby shall I know 00:09:49.00\00:09:53.72 that I shall inherit it? " 00:09:53.82\00:09:55.51 And He said unto him, "Take Me a heifer of three years old, 00:09:55.71\00:10:00.22 and a she goat of three years old, 00:10:00.42\00:10:02.65 and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, 00:10:02.85\00:10:05.01 and a young pigeon. " 00:10:05.11\00:10:06.51 And he took unto him all these, 00:10:06.71\00:10:08.97 and divided them in the midst, 00:10:09.17\00:10:10.83 and laid each piece one against another: 00:10:11.03\00:10:13.39 but the birds divided he not. 00:10:13.59\00:10:15.74 And when the fowls came down upon the carcasses, 00:10:15.94\00:10:19.04 Abram drove them away. 00:10:19.24\00:10:20.47 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; 00:10:20.67\00:10:25.48 and, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. 00:10:25.68\00:10:30.85 And He said unto Abram, "Know of a surety that thy seed 00:10:31.05\00:10:35.74 shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, 00:10:35.84\00:10:38.64 and shall serve them; 00:10:38.74\00:10:39.94 and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 00:10:40.14\00:10:42.87 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, 00:10:43.07\00:10:46.32 will I judge: and afterward shall they come out 00:10:46.52\00:10:48.49 with great substance. And thou shalt go to thy fathers 00:10:48.59\00:10:52.27 in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age. 00:10:52.37\00:10:55.13 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: 00:10:55.33\00:10:58.50 for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full. " 00:10:58.70\00:11:01.60 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, 00:11:01.81\00:11:05.19 and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, 00:11:05.22\00:11:08.88 and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces. 00:11:09.08\00:11:13.02 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, 00:11:13.22\00:11:16.55 "Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt 00:11:16.75\00:11:21.23 unto the great river, the river Euphrates: 00:11:21.33\00:11:23.81 The Kenites, and the Kenizzetes, and the Kadmonites, 00:11:24.01\00:11:27.55 and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim, 00:11:27.75\00:11:30.81 and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, 00:11:31.01\00:11:33.06 and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites. " 00:11:33.16\00:11:35.48 Continuing with chapter 16. 00:11:35.68\00:11:37.79 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, 00:11:38.00\00:11:41.03 bare him no children: 00:11:41.24\00:11:42.68 and she had a handmaid, 00:11:42.88\00:11:44.72 an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar. 00:11:44.82\00:11:46.71 And Sarai said unto Abram, "Behold now, the Lord hath 00:11:46.91\00:11:50.23 restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; 00:11:50.33\00:11:55.23 it may be that I may obtain children by her. " 00:11:55.43\00:11:58.71 And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. 00:11:58.91\00:12:02.40 And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, 00:12:02.61\00:12:06.66 after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, 00:12:06.86\00:12:09.61 and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. 00:12:09.81\00:12:13.69 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: 00:12:13.89\00:12:17.28 and when she saw that she had conceived, 00:12:17.49\00:12:19.99 her mistress was despised in her eyes. 00:12:20.19\00:12:23.49 And Sarai said unto Abram, "My wrong be upon thee: 00:12:23.69\00:12:28.08 I have given my maid into thy bosom: and when she saw 00:12:28.28\00:12:31.76 that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: 00:12:31.86\00:12:34.63 the Lord judge between me and thee. " 00:12:34.83\00:12:37.04 But Abram said unto Sarai, "Behold, thy maid is in 00:12:37.24\00:12:42.30 thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. " 00:12:42.40\00:12:45.69 And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face. 00:12:45.89\00:12:51.06 And the angel of the Lord found her by a fountain of water 00:12:51.26\00:12:55.08 in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. 00:12:55.18\00:12:58.16 And he said, "Hagar, Sarai's maid, 00:12:58.36\00:13:01.94 whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? " 00:13:02.15\00:13:06.11 And she said, "I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. " 00:13:06.31\00:13:10.77 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 00:13:10.97\00:13:13.88 "Return to thy mistress, 00:13:14.09\00:13:16.08 and submit thyself under her hands. " 00:13:16.28\00:13:19.52 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 00:13:19.72\00:13:21.88 "I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, 00:13:21.98\00:13:24.80 that it shall not be numbered for multitude. " 00:13:25.00\00:13:27.08 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, 00:13:27.28\00:13:29.20 "Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, 00:13:29.40\00:13:32.62 and shalt call his name Ishmael; 00:13:32.82\00:13:35.32 because the Lord hath heard thy affliction. 00:13:35.52\00:13:38.27 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every 00:13:38.47\00:13:42.43 man, and every man's hand against him: 00:13:42.53\00:13:44.27 and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. " 00:13:44.48\00:13:47.98 And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, 00:13:48.18\00:13:51.15 "Thou God seest me: " for she said, 00:13:51.35\00:13:54.22 "Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
