Hello, and Welcome back to His Words are Life. 00:00:16.83\00:00:19.10 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're going to continue reading 00:00:19.13\00:00:22.63 in the book of James. But before we read, let's pray together. 00:00:22.66\00:00:25.78 Dear God, Thank you so much for this time to come apart 00:00:25.81\00:00:30.84 from all the different things that are requiring our attention 00:00:30.87\00:00:34.25 today. But before we turn to those things we're coming into 00:00:34.28\00:00:37.83 your presence to receive from you instruction as to how we 00:00:37.86\00:00:42.76 should face those things. We want to have our faith 00:00:42.79\00:00:46.11 strengthened. We want to have our lives become more and more 00:00:46.14\00:00:50.43 like yours. Our faith and our works combining to show 00:00:50.46\00:00:54.34 whose we are. Please guide us now as we read these words. 00:00:54.37\00:00:58.46 May they take root and bear fruit to your glory. 00:00:58.49\00:01:01.18 We love you. Amen. 00:01:01.21\00:01:02.57 Like I said, we're reading in the book of James. 00:01:02.60\00:01:05.89 James has been writing about the relationship, 00:01:05.92\00:01:09.22 - beautiful relationship, the interwoven relationship, 00:01:09.25\00:01:12.60 between faith and works; how we can't say that we have 00:01:12.63\00:01:16.38 faith but live a life that is apart from God. 00:01:16.41\00:01:19.59 But through the very things that we do, we show others who 00:01:19.62\00:01:24.40 is our king, who is our Lord and in whom we have placed our faith 00:01:24.43\00:01:28.61 We're picking up in chapter 4, verse 6. 00:01:28.64\00:01:34.09 Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, 00:01:34.12\00:01:37.22 but giveth grace unto the humble. 00:01:37.25\00:01:40.38 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, 00:01:40.41\00:01:46.45 and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw 00:01:46.48\00:01:51.27 nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your 00:01:51.30\00:01:56.23 hearts, ye double-minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: 00:01:56.26\00:02:00.81 let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy 00:02:00.84\00:02:04.37 to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, 00:02:04.40\00:02:08.08 and he shall lift you up. Speak not evil one of another, 00:02:08.11\00:02:13.82 brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth 00:02:13.85\00:02:18.48 his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: 00:02:18.51\00:02:21.99 but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, 00:02:22.02\00:02:26.26 but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save 00:02:26.29\00:02:30.91 and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? 00:02:30.94\00:02:35.49 Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into 00:02:35.52\00:02:40.93 such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, 00:02:40.96\00:02:43.89 and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. 00:02:43.92\00:02:48.62 For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth 00:02:48.65\00:02:53.61 for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 00:02:53.64\00:02:55.61 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, 00:02:55.64\00:03:01.61 and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: 00:03:01.64\00:03:06.34 all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth 00:03:06.37\00:03:11.77 to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. 00:03:11.80\00:03:16.05 Reading, continuing in chapter five of James 00:03:16.08\00:03:21.02 This is the King James Version. Go to now, ye rich men, 00:03:21.05\00:03:25.66 weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. 00:03:25.69\00:03:29.69 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. 00:03:29.72\00:03:33.37 Your gold and silver is cankered and the rust of them shall be 00:03:33.40\00:03:37.45 a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were 00:03:37.48\00:03:40.42 fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.48 Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields 00:03:44.51\00:03:50.14 which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries 00:03:50.17\00:03:56.36 of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the 00:03:56.39\00:03:59.05 Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, 00:03:59.08\00:04:02.96 and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, 00:04:02.99\00:04:05.10 as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed 00:04:05.13\00:04:09.27 the just; and he doth not resist you. Be patient therefore, 00:04:09.30\00:04:14.82 brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman 00:04:14.85\00:04:19.07 waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long 00:04:19.10\00:04:22.35 patience for it, until he receive the early and latter 00:04:22.38\00:04:27.30 rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: 00:04:27.33\00:04:31.52 for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 00:04:31.55\00:04:34.48 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: 00:04:34.51\00:04:39.41 behold, the judge standeth before the door. 00:04:39.44\00:04:43.23 Take, my brethren, the prophets who have spoken in the name of 00:04:43.26\00:04:47.54 the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, 00:04:47.57\00:04:49.91 and of patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. 00:04:49.94\00:04:55.12 Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end 00:04:55.15\00:04:59.02 of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender 00:04:59.05\00:05:02.28 mercy. But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by 00:05:02.31\00:05:08.00 heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: 00:05:08.03\00:05:11.90 but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall 00:05:11.93\00:05:19.09 into condemnation. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. 00:05:19.12\00:05:24.96 Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? 00:05:24.99\00:05:31.12 let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray 00:05:31.15\00:05:34.50 over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 00:05:34.53\00:05:37.86 and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord 00:05:37.89\00:05:42.97 shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, 00:05:43.00\00:05:46.24 they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to 00:05:46.27\00:05:51.91 another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. 00:05:51.94\00:05:56.71 The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 00:05:56.74\00:06:03.18 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he 00:06:03.21\00:06:09.25 prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not 00:06:09.28\00:06:13.11 on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 00:06:13.14\00:06:16.48 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth 00:06:16.51\00:06:21.30 brought forth her fruit. Brethren, if any of you do err 00:06:21.33\00:06:26.49 from the truth, and one convert him; let him know, that he which 00:06:26.52\00:06:32.26 converteth the sinner from the error of his way, shall save a 00:06:32.29\00:06:36.45 soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. 00:06:36.48\00:06:40.76 Continuing to read now the first epistle of Peter, 00:06:40.79\00:06:45.43 chapter one. This is the King James Version. 00:06:45.46\00:06:48.24 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers 00:06:48.27\00:06:52.76 scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and 00:06:52.79\00:06:58.18 Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God 00:06:58.21\00:07:02.11 the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, 00:07:02.14\00:07:04.76 unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: 00:07:04.79\00:07:08.61 Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God 00:07:08.64\00:07:13.13 and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his 00:07:13.16\00:07:17.14 abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope 00:07:17.17\00:07:21.93 by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 00:07:21.96\00:07:24.64 To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that fadeth 00:07:24.67\00:07:29.52 not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power 00:07:29.55\00:07:34.56 of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed 00:07:34.59\00:07:39.08 in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now 00:07:39.11\00:07:44.73 for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through 00:07:44.76\00:07:49.08 manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much 00:07:49.11\00:07:54.33 more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried 00:07:54.36\00:07:58.21 with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory 00:07:58.24\00:08:03.53 at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen 00:08:03.56\00:08:08.27 ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, 00:08:08.30\00:08:14.44 ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the 00:08:14.47\00:08:20.67 end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 00:08:20.70\00:08:23.52 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched 00:08:23.55\00:08:28.47 diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come 00:08:28.50\00:08:31.43 unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit 00:08:31.46\00:08:36.35 of Christ which was in them did signify when it testified 00:08:36.38\00:08:40.27 beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that 00:08:40.30\00:08:43.22 should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto 00:08:43.25\00:08:47.92 themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are 00:08:47.95\00:08:51.61 now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel 00:08:51.64\00:08:55.44 unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which 00:08:55.47\00:08:59.47 things the angels desire to look into. Wherefore gird up 00:08:59.50\00:09:04.72 the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end 00:09:04.75\00:09:09.36 for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the 00:09:09.39\00:09:12.40 revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children not fashioning 00:09:12.43\00:09:17.34 yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 00:09:17.37\00:09:20.24 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy 00:09:20.27\00:09:26.08 in all manner of conversation; because it is written, 00:09:26.11\00:09:29.92 Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, 00:09:29.95\00:09:35.78 who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's 00:09:35.81\00:09:40.13 pass the time of your sojourning her in fear: Forasmuch as ye 00:09:40.16\00:09:46.47 know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, 00:09:46.50\00:09:49.81 as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by 00:09:49.84\00:09:54.67 tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood 00:09:54.70\00:09:58.66 of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 00:09:58.69\00:10:02.56 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the 00:10:02.59\00:10:06.76 world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 00:10:06.79\00:10:10.53 who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead 00:10:10.56\00:10:16.43 and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 00:10:16.47\00:10:21.40 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth 00:10:21.43\00:10:25.75 through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, 00:10:25.78\00:10:29.28 see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 00:10:29.31\00:10:35.18 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of 00:10:35.21\00:10:39.39 incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth 00:10:39.42\00:10:43.54 for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man 00:10:43.57\00:10:49.49 as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower 00:10:49.52\00:10:54.15 thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth 00:10:54.18\00:10:58.48 for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached 00:10:58.51\00:11:04.01 unto you. Continuing now in Peter, 00:11:04.04\00:11:07.76 chapter 2. - Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, 00:11:07.79\00:11:14.83 and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking, 00:11:14.86\00:11:18.62 as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, 00:11:18.65\00:11:23.85 that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord 00:11:23.88\00:11:29.52 is gracious. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, 00:11:29.55\00:11:35.18 disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 00:11:35.21\00:11:40.52 ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, 00:11:40.55\00:11:46.65 an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, 00:11:46.68\00:11:50.65 acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Wherefore also it is 00:11:50.68\00:11:56.17 contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion 00:11:56.20\00:11:59.96 a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth 00:11:59.99\00:12:05.23 on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe 00:12:05.26\00:12:10.40 he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone 00:12:10.43\00:12:15.31 which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the 00:12:15.34\00:12:18.86 corner, and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence, 00:12:18.89\00:12:23.07 even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: 00:12:23.10\00:12:26.49 whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen 00:12:26.52\00:12:31.36 generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar 00:12:31.39\00:12:35.74 people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him, 00:12:35.77\00:12:39.44 who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous 00:12:39.47\00:12:43.70 light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now 00:12:43.73\00:12:48.73 the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have 00:12:48.76\00:12:54.68 obtained mercy. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers 00:12:54.71\00:13:00.16 and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against 00:13:00.19\00:13:04.86 the soul; having your conversation honest 00:13:04.89\00:13:08.39 among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you 00:13:08.42\00:13:12.87 as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall 00:13:12.90\00:13:17.19 behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 00:13:17.22\00:13:20.96 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the 00:13:20.99\00:13:24.46 Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 00:13:24.49\00:13:28.05 or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the 00:13:28.08\00:13:32.34 punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that 00:13:32.37\00:13:35.65 do well. For so is the will of God, that with well-doing 00:13:35.68\00:13:40.58 ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 00:13:40.61\00:13:44.46 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak 00:13:44.49\00:13:49.43 of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 00:13:49.46\00:13:52.62 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. 00:13:52.65\00:13:58.36 Honor the king. Servants, be subject to your masters 00:13:58.39\00:14:03.49 with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to 00:14:03.52\00:14:07.92 the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man 00:14:07.95\00:14:11.61 for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering 00:14:11.64\00:14:14.66 wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted 00:14:14.69\00:14:19.60 for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do 00:14:19.63\00:14:23.88 and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable 00:14:23.91\00:14:28.56 with God. - Thank you for joining with me today 00:14:28.59\00:14:31.87 May God keep you until we're together again. 00:14:31.90\00:14:34.49
