Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.70\00:00:19.25 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we will continue to read in the 00:00:19.28\00:00:22.20 book of Hebrews. 00:00:22.23\00:00:23.20 But before we read together, lets pray. 00:00:23.21\00:00:26.11 Dear Jesus, thank You again for the blessing of Your word to 00:00:26.14\00:00:31.47 read to strengthen us and to guide us. 00:00:31.50\00:00:34.37 We've been spending time reading about the heroes of faith 00:00:34.40\00:00:38.76 in the Bible; men and women like us who actually lived, 00:00:38.79\00:00:43.19 for pretty much of us, a lot harder lives than we've seen 00:00:43.22\00:00:46.90 so far. 00:00:46.93\00:00:47.96 We haven't yet been tortured for You, and we haven't been 00:00:47.99\00:00:52.88 imprisoned, most of us, for You; and yet we find our faith is so 00:00:52.91\00:00:58.08 weak sometimes. 00:00:58.11\00:00:59.35 We want to be strong. 00:00:59.38\00:01:00.39 We long to be like the men and women that we've 00:01:00.42\00:01:03.36 read about here. 00:01:03.39\00:01:04.36 Please come and take our feeble faith and make it burn brighter. 00:01:04.37\00:01:09.31 We're like the father in the story that said, Lord I believe 00:01:09.34\00:01:13.46 but help my unbelief. 00:01:13.49\00:01:14.88 Take our hearts and make them fully Yours so that we may be 00:01:14.91\00:01:21.10 of service to You, and to each other, to the glory of 00:01:21.13\00:01:24.43 Your name. 00:01:24.46\00:01:25.43 We love You so much, and thank You for loving us. 00:01:25.44\00:01:27.49 Amen. 00:01:27.52\00:01:28.49 We're continuing to read in Hebrews, and the verse that 00:01:28.50\00:01:33.17 we're going to start on is chapter 13, and verse 15. 00:01:33.20\00:01:36.44 It has a phrase in it that I've always loved. 00:01:36.47\00:01:39.40 I think of it often when I sit down to play the piano. 00:01:39.43\00:01:42.35 It talks about the sacrifice of praise. 00:01:42.38\00:01:44.81 And that is what He is looking for from each one of us; 00:01:44.84\00:01:48.07 a sacrifice of praise to Him. 00:01:48.10\00:01:50.10 We're created to show forth His praise. 00:01:50.13\00:01:52.40 Let's read now Hebrews 13, starting with verse 15. 00:01:52.43\00:01:55.57 This is the King James Version. 00:01:55.60\00:01:57.07 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God 00:01:57.10\00:02:03.08 continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, 00:02:03.11\00:02:07.09 giving thanks to his name. 00:02:07.12\00:02:09.52 But to do good and to communicate forget not: 00:02:09.55\00:02:13.24 for with such sacrifices God is well-pleased. 00:02:13.27\00:02:16.90 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: 00:02:16.93\00:02:20.84 for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, 00:02:20.87\00:02:25.31 that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: 00:02:25.34\00:02:28.09 for that is unprofitable for you. 00:02:28.12\00:02:30.07 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, 00:02:30.10\00:02:34.10 in all things willing to live honestly. 00:02:34.13\00:02:36.83 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored 00:02:36.86\00:02:41.76 to you the sooner. 00:02:41.79\00:02:42.81 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our 00:02:42.84\00:02:46.87 Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood 00:02:46.90\00:02:50.95 of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good 00:02:50.98\00:02:54.36 work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing 00:02:54.39\00:02:59.42 in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory 00:02:59.45\00:03:03.17 for ever and ever. 00:03:03.20\00:03:04.84 Amen. 00:03:04.87\00:03:05.84 And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: 00:03:05.85\00:03:10.45 for I have written a letter unto you in few words. 00:03:10.48\00:03:13.43 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, 00:03:13.46\00:03:17.91 if he come shortly, I will see you. 00:03:17.94\00:03:20.00 Salute all them that have the rule over you, 00:03:20.03\00:03:23.05 and all the saints. 00:03:23.08\00:03:24.05 They of Italy salute you. 00:03:24.06\00:03:25.57 Grace be with you all. 00:03:25.60\00:03:27.70 Amen. 00:03:27.73\00:03:28.92 Continuing now to read the general epistle of James, 00:03:28.95\00:03:34.02 and this is the King James Version; James chapter 1. 00:03:34.05\00:03:37.17 James a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:03:37.20\00:03:41.95 to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. 00:03:41.98\00:03:45.43 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers 00:03:45.46\00:03:50.82 temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith 00:03:50.85\00:03:55.81 worketh patience. 00:03:55.84\00:03:57.32 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be 00:03:57.35\00:04:01.43 perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 00:04:01.46\00:04:04.49 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, 00:04:04.52\00:04:08.91 that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; 00:04:08.94\00:04:12.44 and it shall be given him. 00:04:12.47\00:04:14.45 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. 00:04:14.48\00:04:18.33 For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the 00:04:18.36\00:04:22.69 wind and tossed. 00:04:22.72\00:04:24.21 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing 00:04:24.24\00:04:27.35 of the Lord. 00:04:27.38\00:04:28.35 A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. 00:04:28.36\00:04:31.57 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: 00:04:31.60\00:04:37.89 but the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of 00:04:37.92\00:04:43.61 the grass he shall pass away. 00:04:43.64\00:04:45.33 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, 00:04:45.36\00:04:48.58 but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, 00:04:48.61\00:04:51.85 and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the 00:04:51.88\00:04:57.16 rich man fade away in his ways. 00:04:57.19\00:04:59.67 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is 00:04:59.70\00:05:05.14 tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord 00:05:05.17\00:05:08.07 hath promised to them that love him. 00:05:08.10\00:05:09.87 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: 00:05:09.90\00:05:14.35 for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he 00:05:14.38\00:05:18.45 any man: but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away 00:05:18.48\00:05:22.66 of his own lust, and enticed. 00:05:22.70\00:05:24.53 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, 00:05:24.56\00:05:29.89 when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 00:05:29.92\00:05:33.33 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 00:05:33.36\00:05:36.52 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, 00:05:36.55\00:05:40.06 and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no 00:05:40.09\00:05:43.73 variableness, neither shadow of turning. 00:05:43.76\00:05:46.69 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, 00:05:46.72\00:05:52.05 that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 00:05:52.08\00:05:55.71 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, 00:05:55.74\00:06:01.22 slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not 00:06:01.25\00:06:07.56 the righteousness of God. 00:06:07.59\00:06:09.16 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of 00:06:09.19\00:06:15.06 naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, 00:06:15.09\00:06:19.61 which is able to save your souls. 00:06:19.64\00:06:22.52 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, 00:06:22.55\00:06:27.05 deceiving your own selves. 00:06:27.08\00:06:29.08 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, 00:06:29.11\00:06:32.90 he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 00:06:32.93\00:06:37.63 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, 00:06:37.66\00:06:40.60 and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 00:06:40.63\00:06:43.42 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, 00:06:43.45\00:06:48.23 and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, 00:06:48.26\00:06:53.29 but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 00:06:53.32\00:06:58.94 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his 00:06:58.97\00:07:04.87 tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's 00:07:04.90\00:07:08.81 religion is vain. 00:07:08.84\00:07:09.82 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father 00:07:09.85\00:07:14.28 is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, 00:07:14.31\00:07:19.05 and to keep himself unspotted from the world. 00:07:19.08\00:07:22.86 Continuing to read in the book of James, chapter 2. 00:07:22.89\00:07:27.01 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:07:27.04\00:07:32.13 the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. 00:07:32.16\00:07:35.27 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, 00:07:35.30\00:07:39.76 in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man 00:07:39.79\00:07:44.30 in vile raiment; and ye have respect to him that weareth the 00:07:44.33\00:07:48.53 gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; 00:07:48.56\00:07:51.73 and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my 00:07:51.76\00:07:56.24 footstool: are ye not then partial in yourselves, 00:07:56.27\00:08:00.41 and are become judges of evil thoughts? 00:08:00.44\00:08:02.90 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor 00:08:02.93\00:08:07.43 of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which 00:08:07.46\00:08:12.10 he hath promised to them that love him? 00:08:12.13\00:08:14.15 But ye have despised the poor. 00:08:14.18\00:08:17.05 Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the 00:08:17.08\00:08:20.67 judgment seats? 00:08:20.70\00:08:21.67 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which 00:08:21.68\00:08:24.42 ye are called? 00:08:24.45\00:08:25.45 If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, 00:08:25.48\00:08:29.08 Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: 00:08:29.11\00:08:33.17 but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, 00:08:33.20\00:08:37.78 and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 00:08:37.81\00:08:40.82 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one 00:08:40.85\00:08:45.07 point, he is guilty of all. 00:08:45.10\00:08:47.64 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, 00:08:47.67\00:08:52.42 Do not kill. 00:08:52.45\00:08:53.59 Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, 00:08:53.62\00:08:58.20 thou art become a transgressor of the law. 00:08:58.23\00:09:00.76 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged 00:09:00.79\00:09:05.48 by the law of liberty. 00:09:05.51\00:09:06.86 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shown 00:09:06.89\00:09:10.21 no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. 00:09:10.24\00:09:14.16 What doeth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he 00:09:14.19\00:09:17.98 hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 00:09:18.01\00:09:22.13 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 00:09:22.16\00:09:26.87 and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed 00:09:26.90\00:09:30.41 and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which 00:09:30.44\00:09:34.88 are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 00:09:34.91\00:09:38.07 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 00:09:38.10\00:09:43.82 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: 00:09:43.85\00:09:48.58 show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my 00:09:48.61\00:09:54.23 faith by my works. 00:09:54.26\00:09:56.56 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: 00:09:56.59\00:10:01.29 the devils also believe, and tremble. 00:10:01.32\00:10:04.46 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without 00:10:04.49\00:10:09.34 works is dead? 00:10:09.37\00:10:10.36 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had 00:10:10.39\00:10:14.79 offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 00:10:14.82\00:10:17.04 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works 00:10:17.07\00:10:22.45 was faith made perfect? 00:10:22.48\00:10:23.94 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed 00:10:23.97\00:10:27.92 God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: 00:10:27.95\00:10:31.37 and he was called the friend of God. 00:10:31.40\00:10:34.54 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, 00:10:34.57\00:10:39.27 and not by faith only. 00:10:39.30\00:10:40.59 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, 00:10:40.62\00:10:46.23 when she had received the messengers, and had sent them 00:10:46.26\00:10:48.74 out another way? 00:10:48.77\00:10:49.79 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without 00:10:49.82\00:10:54.87 works is dead also. 00:10:54.90\00:10:56.61 Continuing to read in the book of James, chapter 3. 00:10:56.64\00:10:59.81 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall 00:10:59.84\00:11:04.63 receive the greater condemnation. 00:11:04.66\00:11:06.67 For in many things we offend all. 00:11:06.70\00:11:09.85 If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, 00:11:09.88\00:11:14.22 and able also to bridle the whole body. 00:11:14.25\00:11:17.31 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may 00:11:17.34\00:11:20.74 obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 00:11:20.77\00:11:23.47 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, 00:11:23.50\00:11:28.03 and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a 00:11:28.06\00:11:32.33 very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 00:11:32.36\00:11:36.18 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth 00:11:36.21\00:11:41.54 great things. 00:11:41.57\00:11:42.54 Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 00:11:42.55\00:11:46.68 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: 00:11:46.71\00:11:50.66 so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth 00:11:50.69\00:11:54.12 the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; 00:11:54.15\00:11:57.17 and it is set on fire of hell. 00:11:57.20\00:11:59.21 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, 00:11:59.24\00:12:02.97 and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of 00:12:03.00\00:12:06.10 mankind: but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, 00:12:06.13\00:12:11.80 full of deadly poison. 00:12:11.83\00:12:14.22 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; 00:12:14.25\00:12:18.12 and therewith curse we men, which are made after the 00:12:18.15\00:12:22.64 similtude of God. 00:12:22.67\00:12:23.99 out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. 00:12:24.02\00:12:28.55 My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 00:12:28.58\00:12:33.37 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water 00:12:33.40\00:12:37.64 and bitter? 00:12:37.67\00:12:38.86 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? 00:12:38.89\00:12:42.73 either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water 00:12:42.76\00:12:48.69 and fresh. 00:12:48.72\00:12:50.01 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? 00:12:50.04\00:12:53.88 let him show out of a good conversation his works with 00:12:53.91\00:12:58.63 meekness of wisdom. 00:12:58.66\00:13:00.10 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, 00:13:00.13\00:13:05.57 glory not, and lie not against the truth. 00:13:05.60\00:13:08.73 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, 00:13:08.76\00:13:13.22 sensual, devilish. 00:13:13.25\00:13:15.26 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every 00:13:15.29\00:13:20.58 evil work. 00:13:20.61\00:13:21.58 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, 00:13:21.60\00:13:25.82 then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, 00:13:25.85\00:13:31.06 full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, 00:13:31.09\00:13:35.24 and without hypocrisy. 00:13:35.27\00:13:37.08 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them 00:13:37.11\00:13:42.15 that make peace. 00:13:42.18\00:13:43.33 Continuing with James, Chapter 4. 00:13:43.36\00:13:46.42 From whence come wars and fightings among you? 00:13:46.45\00:13:50.51 come they not hence, even of your lusts that war 00:13:50.54\00:13:54.52 in your members? 00:13:54.55\00:13:55.61 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, 00:13:55.64\00:13:59.53 and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, 00:13:59.56\00:14:03.58 because ye ask not. 00:14:03.61\00:14:05.37 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, 00:14:05.40\00:14:09.89 that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 00:14:09.92\00:14:12.72 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship 00:14:12.75\00:14:16.87 of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a 00:14:16.90\00:14:22.22 friend of the world is the enemy of God. 00:14:22.25\00:14:24.74 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that 00:14:24.77\00:14:28.57 dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 00:14:28.60\00:14:30.94 But he giveth more grace. 00:14:30.97\00:14:34.15
