Hello and welcome to His Words are Life. 00:00:17.17\00:00:19.67 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we're reading from the book of Hebrews 00:00:19.70\00:00:22.86 but before we begin to read together, let's pray. 00:00:22.89\00:00:25.57 Dear Jesus, thank you for loving us. Thank you for dieing 00:00:25.60\00:00:30.11 for us that you could save us to live with you eternally. 00:00:30.14\00:00:33.27 But thank you right now, today, that in addition to eternal life 00:00:33.30\00:00:37.77 that you will enjoy with us, you have given us these words 00:00:37.80\00:00:40.35 that will make this present live a life of peace and joy 00:00:40.38\00:00:44.21 through your grace and mercy. May we always abide in you 00:00:44.24\00:00:48.12 and in your word. Be with us now as we read. We love you so much. 00:00:48.15\00:00:52.23 Thank you for loving us. Amen. Again, I'm reading from the book 00:00:52.26\00:00:57.44 of Hebrews, in chapter three. And when we were last together, 00:00:57.47\00:01:01.37 the writer was talking about, in the voice of God, saying, that 00:01:01.40\00:01:06.88 how than in past generations those who turned from Him 00:01:06.91\00:01:10.75 grieved him; because they did not know his ways, and they did 00:01:10.78\00:01:14.20 not care to follow his teachings. 00:01:14.23\00:01:16.22 Picking up in chapter three, verse eleven, 00:01:16.25\00:01:19.48 So I sware in my wrath they shall not enter into my rest. 00:01:19.51\00:01:23.08 Take heed brethren, lest there be any in of you an evil heart 00:01:23.11\00:01:28.64 of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one 00:01:28.67\00:01:32.98 another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be 00:01:33.01\00:01:36.83 hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 00:01:36.86\00:01:39.34 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning 00:01:39.37\00:01:44.28 of our confidence steadfast unto the end; While it is said, 00:01:44.31\00:01:49.48 Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, 00:01:49.51\00:01:53.00 as in the provocation. For some, when they had heard, 00:01:53.03\00:01:57.25 did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 00:01:57.28\00:02:01.58 but with some was he grieved forty years? was it not with 00:02:01.61\00:02:06.64 them that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the 00:02:06.67\00:02:10.14 wilderness? And to whom sware he that they should not enter into 00:02:10.17\00:02:15.00 his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that 00:02:15.03\00:02:21.22 they could not enter in because of unbelief. Continuing in 00:02:21.25\00:02:27.24 Hebrews chapter 4. Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise 00:02:27.27\00:02:32.75 being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem 00:02:32.78\00:02:35.87 to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well 00:02:35.90\00:02:39.98 as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, 00:02:40.01\00:02:45.51 not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which 00:02:45.54\00:02:49.23 have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have 00:02:49.26\00:02:54.34 sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the 00:02:54.37\00:02:58.01 works were finished from the foundation of the world. 00:02:58.04\00:03:00.34 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, 00:03:00.37\00:03:04.92 and God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 00:03:04.95\00:03:09.33 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 00:03:09.36\00:03:14.14 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, 00:03:14.17\00:03:19.24 and they to whom it was first preached entered not in 00:03:19.27\00:03:22.48 because of unbelief: Again he limiteth a certain day, saying, 00:03:22.51\00:03:27.35 in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today, 00:03:27.38\00:03:33.89 if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 00:03:33.92\00:03:37.34 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not 00:03:37.37\00:03:41.62 afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth 00:03:41.65\00:03:45.30 therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered 00:03:45.33\00:03:50.06 unto his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, 00:03:50.09\00:03:54.25 as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into 00:03:54.28\00:03:59.11 that rest, lest any man fall after the same example 00:03:59.14\00:04:02.99 of unbelief. For the word of God is quick and powerful, and 00:04:03.02\00:04:07.79 sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the 00:04:07.82\00:04:11.92 dividing asunder of the soul and spirit, and of the joints 00:04:11.95\00:04:15.15 and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents 00:04:15.18\00:04:19.49 of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not 00:04:19.52\00:04:23.51 manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened 00:04:23.54\00:04:27.72 unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 00:04:27.75\00:04:30.40 Seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed 00:04:30.43\00:04:35.80 unto the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our 00:04:35.83\00:04:40.90 profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be 00:04:40.93\00:04:44.75 touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all 00:04:44.78\00:04:48.80 points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 00:04:48.83\00:04:52.81 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, 00:04:52.84\00:04:57.41 that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of 00:04:57.44\00:05:03.07 need. - Continuing to read in Hebrews, chapter 5. 00:05:03.10\00:05:07.60 And this is the King James Version. 00:05:07.63\00:05:09.03 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained 00:05:09.06\00:05:14.51 for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both 00:05:14.54\00:05:19.08 gifts and sacrifices for sins; Who can have compassion on 00:05:19.11\00:05:24.12 the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.94 himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof 00:05:27.97\00:05:32.59 as he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer 00:05:32.62\00:05:37.68 for sins. And no man taketh his unto himself, but he that is 00:05:37.71\00:05:43.53 called of God, as was Aaron. So also Christ glorified not 00:05:43.56\00:05:48.88 himself to be made an high priest but he that said unto 00:05:48.91\00:05:51.58 him, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee. 00:05:51.61\00:05:54.79 As he saith also in another place. Thou are a high priest 00:05:54.82\00:05:58.80 forever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days 00:05:58.83\00:06:02.47 of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers 00:06:02.50\00:06:04.45 and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him 00:06:04.48\00:06:08.28 that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that 00:06:08.31\00:06:12.07 he feared; though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience 00:06:12.10\00:06:16.93 by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, 00:06:16.96\00:06:20.82 he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them 00:06:20.85\00:06:25.12 that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of 00:06:25.15\00:06:30.53 Melchisedec. Of whom we have many things to say, and hard 00:06:30.56\00:06:34.89 to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 00:06:34.92\00:06:37.29 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need 00:06:37.32\00:06:41.46 that one teach you again which be the first principles of the 00:06:41.49\00:06:44.98 oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, 00:06:45.01\00:06:49.30 and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk 00:06:49.33\00:06:54.16 is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 00:06:54.19\00:06:58.62 But strong meat belongeth to them that are full age, even 00:06:58.65\00:07:04.85 those who by reason of use have their senses exercised 00:07:04.88\00:07:08.93 to discern both good and evil. Reading from the book of Hebrews 00:07:08.96\00:07:14.74 in the King James Version, continuing now with chapter 6. 00:07:14.77\00:07:18.36 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, 00:07:18.39\00:07:23.67 let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation 00:07:23.70\00:07:28.32 of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 00:07:28.35\00:07:31.36 of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of 00:07:31.39\00:07:35.54 resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 00:07:35.57\00:07:37.97 And this will we do, if God permit. For it is impossible 00:07:38.00\00:07:42.21 for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of 00:07:42.24\00:07:45.38 the heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 00:07:45.41\00:07:48.37 and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the 00:07:48.40\00:07:52.30 world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again 00:07:52.33\00:07:56.90 unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son 00:07:56.93\00:08:00.66 of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth 00:08:00.69\00:08:05.86 which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth 00:08:05.89\00:08:09.46 forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, 00:08:09.49\00:08:13.53 receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and 00:08:13.56\00:08:19.00 briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be 00:08:19.03\00:08:24.57 burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, 00:08:24.60\00:08:30.00 and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. 00:08:30.03\00:08:34.18 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor 00:08:34.21\00:08:38.24 of love, which ye have shewed to toward his name, in that ye 00:08:38.27\00:08:41.78 have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire 00:08:41.81\00:08:45.91 that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full 00:08:45.94\00:08:49.25 assurance of hope unto the end, that ye be not slothful, 00:08:49.28\00:08:53.57 but followers of them who through faith and patience 00:08:53.60\00:08:56.93 inherit the promises. For when God made promise to Abraham, 00:08:56.96\00:09:01.13 because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 00:09:01.16\00:09:04.44 Saying, Surely, blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying 00:09:04.47\00:09:09.13 I will multiply thee. And so after he had patiently endured, 00:09:09.16\00:09:14.18 he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: 00:09:14.21\00:09:19.32 and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. 00:09:19.35\00:09:23.69 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto 00:09:23.72\00:09:27.69 the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, 00:09:27.72\00:09:30.71 confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, 00:09:30.74\00:09:35.73 in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a 00:09:35.76\00:09:40.70 strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold 00:09:40.73\00:09:45.78 upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor 00:09:45.81\00:09:50.89 of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth 00:09:50.92\00:09:54.81 into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is 00:09:54.84\00:09:59.17 for us entered, even Jesus, made and high priest forever 00:09:59.20\00:10:02.77 after the order of Melchisedec. 00:10:02.80\00:10:04.83 Again, I'm reading from the King James Version, 00:10:04.86\00:10:07.78 This is the book of Hebrews, chapter 7. 00:10:07.81\00:10:09.79 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high 00:10:09.82\00:10:15.51 God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, 00:10:15.54\00:10:19.62 and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all 00:10:19.65\00:10:24.13 first being by interpretation King of righteousness, 00:10:24.16\00:10:28.19 and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; 00:10:28.22\00:10:34.50 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither 00:10:34.53\00:10:41.11 beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son 00:10:41.14\00:10:46.19 of God; abideth a priest continually. Now consider 00:10:46.22\00:10:51.49 how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham 00:10:51.52\00:10:55.36 gave the tenth of the spoils. And verily they that are of 00:10:55.39\00:11:00.44 the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, 00:11:00.47\00:11:03.61 have a commandment to take tithes of the people according 00:11:03.64\00:11:06.99 to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out 00:11:07.02\00:11:10.75 of the loins of Abraham: But he whose descent is not counted 00:11:10.78\00:11:15.34 from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him 00:11:15.37\00:11:19.35 that had the promises. And without all contradiction 00:11:19.38\00:11:23.25 the less is blessed of the better. And here men that die 00:11:23.28\00:11:27.11 receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is 00:11:27.14\00:11:31.50 witnessed that he liveth. And as I may so say, Levi also, 00:11:31.53\00:11:36.85 who receiveth tithes, paid tithes in Abraham. 00:11:36.88\00:11:39.94 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec 00:11:39.97\00:11:43.43 met him. If therefore perfection were by the 00:11:43.46\00:11:47.43 Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law, 00:11:47.46\00:11:51.21 what further need was there that another priest should rise 00:11:51.24\00:11:55.24 after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the 00:11:55.27\00:11:58.13 order of Aaron? For the priesthood being changed, 00:11:58.16\00:12:01.45 there is made of necessity a change also of the law. 00:12:01.48\00:12:05.66 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another 00:12:05.69\00:12:10.65 tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 00:12:10.68\00:12:14.22 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which 00:12:14.25\00:12:19.14 tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 00:12:19.17\00:12:22.21 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude 00:12:22.24\00:12:27.50 of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, Who is made, 00:12:27.53\00:12:31.38 not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power 00:12:31.41\00:12:35.49 of an endless life. For he testifieth, Thou art a priest 00:12:35.52\00:12:40.04 forever after the order of Melcnisedec. 00:12:40.07\00:12:42.24 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment 00:12:42.27\00:12:46.04 going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. 00:12:46.07\00:12:49.89 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of 00:12:49.92\00:12:55.57 a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. And 00:12:55.60\00:13:01.84 inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest: For those 00:13:01.87\00:13:05.79 priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by 00:13:05.82\00:13:09.18 him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, 00:13:09.21\00:13:12.85 Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. 00:13:12.88\00:13:16.77 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. 00:13:16.80\00:13:21.92 And they truly were many priests because they were not suffered 00:13:21.95\00:13:25.60 to continue by reason of death: But this man, 00:13:25.63\00:13:28.38 because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 00:13:28.41\00:13:32.94 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost 00:13:32.97\00:13:36.98 that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make 00:13:37.01\00:13:41.81 intercession for them. For such an high priest became us, 00:13:41.84\00:13:46.03 who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners 00:13:46.06\00:13:50.80 and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, 00:13:50.83\00:13:54.64 as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own 00:13:54.67\00:13:58.52 sins, and then for the people's; for this he did once, when he 00:13:58.55\00:14:02.53 offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which 00:14:02.56\00:14:06.90 have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since 00:14:06.93\00:14:11.07 the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated forevermore. 00:14:11.10\00:14:15.82 Continuing in chapter eight, of Hebrews. 00:14:15.85\00:14:18.82 Now the things which we have spoken this is the sum: 00:14:18.85\00:14:23.26 We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand 00:14:23.29\00:14:27.28 of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the 00:14:27.31\00:14:31.68 sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, 00:14:31.71\00:14:36.88
