Hi, and welcome back to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.74\00:00:19.38 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we're reading from the 00:00:19.41\00:00:22.67 2nd book of Timothy, 00:00:22.70\00:00:23.67 but before we begin, let's pray together. 00:00:23.68\00:00:26.37 Dear Jesus, today, right now around the world, your children 00:00:26.40\00:00:32.07 are coming apart from the different things that take our 00:00:32.10\00:00:36.12 time, and our attention, and our hands, and our hearts, 00:00:36.15\00:00:40.37 and our minds, 00:00:40.40\00:00:41.37 we're stepping into your presence especially right now 00:00:41.38\00:00:44.18 to read your word. 00:00:44.21\00:00:45.68 Please guide us, and may the words that we read here 00:00:45.71\00:00:49.66 strengthen us, to go back to whatever it is that we face 00:00:49.69\00:00:53.37 right now, 00:00:53.40\00:00:54.37 but not to go back like we were just a few minutes ago, 00:00:54.38\00:00:57.85 but to go back changed, more like You, and ready to do Your 00:00:57.88\00:01:01.98 will in whatever way we can. 00:01:02.01\00:01:03.59 We love You so much, 00:01:03.62\00:01:04.72 thank You for loving us. 00:01:04.75\00:01:06.23 Amen. 00:01:06.26\00:01:07.25 When we last were together, we were reading from the 2nd 00:01:07.28\00:01:11.77 letter to Timothy, and 00:01:11.80\00:01:13.00 Paul was writing about the house of Onesiphorus, and how that he 00:01:13.03\00:01:20.25 wished God's mercy on that house, because how often 00:01:20.28\00:01:24.81 Onesiphorus came to him, Paul, and refreshed him. 00:01:24.84\00:01:26.92 He was not ashamed that his friend Paul was in prison. 00:01:26.95\00:01:30.04 We pick up now with verse 17, chapter 1 of 2 Timothy. 00:01:30.07\00:01:35.09 But, when he... was in Rome, 00:01:35.12\00:01:40.17 he sought me out very diligently, and found me. 00:01:40.20\00:01:43.51 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord 00:01:43.54\00:01:47.45 in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at 00:01:47.48\00:01:51.76 Ephesus, thou knowest very well. Continuing with chapter 2. 00:01:51.79\00:01:57.03 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace 00:01:57.06\00:02:00.44 that is in Christ Jesus. 00:02:00.47\00:02:01.99 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many 00:02:02.02\00:02:04.54 witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be 00:02:04.57\00:02:08.78 able to teach others also. 00:02:08.81\00:02:10.34 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier 00:02:10.37\00:02:14.16 of Jesus Christ. 00:02:14.19\00:02:15.17 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this 00:02:15.64\00:02:20.02 life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 00:02:20.05\00:02:24.21 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not 00:02:24.24\00:02:29.04 crowned, except he strive lawfully. 00:02:29.07\00:02:31.66 The husbandmen that laboreth must be first partaker 00:02:31.69\00:02:35.95 of the fruits. 00:02:35.98\00:02:36.95 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding 00:02:36.96\00:02:40.79 in all things. 00:02:40.82\00:02:41.79 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised 00:02:41.80\00:02:45.99 from the dead, according to my gospel: wherein I suffer 00:02:46.02\00:02:49.27 trouble, as an evildoer, even unto bonds; but the word of God 00:02:49.30\00:02:54.66 is not bound. 00:02:54.69\00:02:55.86 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they 00:02:55.89\00:03:00.55 may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus 00:03:00.58\00:03:03.56 with eternal glory. 00:03:03.59\00:03:04.99 It is a faithful saying: for if we be dead with him, we shall 00:03:05.02\00:03:09.75 also live with him: if we suffer, we shall also reign 00:03:09.78\00:03:14.01 with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 00:03:14.04\00:03:20.28 if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot 00:03:20.31\00:03:26.19 deny himself. 00:03:26.22\00:03:27.44 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them 00:03:27.47\00:03:31.96 before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, 00:03:31.99\00:03:36.33 but to the subverting of the hearers. 00:03:36.36\00:03:38.57 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth 00:03:38.60\00:03:44.70 not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 00:03:44.73\00:03:48.62 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will 00:03:48.65\00:03:53.92 increase unto more ungodliness. 00:03:53.95\00:03:55.98 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus 00:03:56.01\00:04:02.41 and Philetus; who concerning the truth have erred, saying that 00:04:02.44\00:04:07.21 the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith 00:04:07.24\00:04:09.96 of some. 00:04:09.99\00:04:10.96 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this 00:04:10.97\00:04:15.10 seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. 00:04:15.13\00:04:18.19 And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ 00:04:18.22\00:04:21.85 depart from iniquity. 00:04:21.88\00:04:23.30 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of 00:04:23.33\00:04:27.76 silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, 00:04:27.79\00:04:32.06 and some to dishonor. 00:04:32.09\00:04:33.83 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel 00:04:33.86\00:04:38.58 unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, 00:04:38.61\00:04:43.23 and prepared unto every good work. 00:04:43.26\00:04:45.79 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, 00:04:45.82\00:04:51.81 charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out 00:04:51.84\00:04:56.47 of a pure heart. 00:04:56.50\00:04:57.56 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that 00:04:57.59\00:05:03.00 they do gender strifes. 00:05:03.03\00:05:04.62 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto 00:05:04.65\00:05:09.87 all men, apt to teach, patient; in meekness instructing those 00:05:09.90\00:05:16.44 that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them 00:05:16.47\00:05:21.00 repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; and that they may 00:05:21.03\00:05:25.12 recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are 00:05:25.15\00:05:28.76 taken captive by him at his will. 00:05:28.79\00:05:31.17 Continuing to read in 2 Timothy, chapter 3 00:05:31.20\00:05:35.70 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 00:05:35.95\00:05:41.58 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, 00:05:41.61\00:05:47.55 proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 00:05:47.58\00:05:55.74 without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, 00:05:55.77\00:06:01.71 incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 00:06:01.74\00:06:07.15 traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than 00:06:07.18\00:06:11.77 lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power 00:06:11.80\00:06:17.88 thereof: from such turn away. 00:06:17.91\00:06:21.02 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, 00:06:21.05\00:06:25.40 and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with 00:06:25.43\00:06:30.09 divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the 00:06:30.12\00:06:33.68 knowledge of the truth. 00:06:33.71\00:06:34.69 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these 00:06:34.72\00:06:39.62 also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, 00:06:39.65\00:06:42.82 reprobate concerning the faith. 00:06:42.85\00:06:45.22 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall 00:06:45.25\00:06:49.09 be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. 00:06:49.12\00:06:52.74 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, 00:06:52.77\00:06:57.21 purpose, faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, persecutions, 00:06:57.24\00:07:04.31 afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, 00:07:04.34\00:07:09.03 at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all 00:07:09.06\00:07:13.63 the Lord delivered me. 00:07:13.66\00:07:15.29 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus 00:07:15.32\00:07:18.98 shall suffer persecution. 00:07:19.01\00:07:20.67 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, 00:07:20.70\00:07:26.52 and being deceived. 00:07:26.55\00:07:28.47 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned 00:07:28.50\00:07:32.44 and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou 00:07:32.47\00:07:35.82 hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast known the holy 00:07:35.85\00:07:40.03 scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation 00:07:40.06\00:07:43.90 through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 00:07:43.93\00:07:46.67 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, 00:07:46.70\00:07:50.07 and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, 00:07:50.10\00:07:54.90 for instruction in righteousness: that the man of 00:07:54.93\00:07:58.34 God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 00:07:58.37\00:08:03.55 We are reading 2 Timothy, chapter 4, 00:08:03.58\00:08:07.49 in the King James Version. 00:08:07.52\00:08:08.62 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:08:08.88\00:08:13.87 who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing 00:08:13.90\00:08:16.95 and his kingdom; preach the word; be instant in season, 00:08:16.98\00:08:21.87 out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering 00:08:21.90\00:08:28.25 and doctrine. 00:08:28.28\00:08:29.25 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; 00:08:29.28\00:08:32.88 but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves 00:08:32.91\00:08:36.59 teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their 00:08:36.62\00:08:40.38 ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 00:08:40.41\00:08:43.56 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work 00:08:43.59\00:08:49.08 of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 00:08:49.11\00:08:52.70 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my 00:08:52.73\00:08:55.70 departure is at hand. 00:08:55.73\00:08:57.44 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, 00:08:57.47\00:09:01.67 I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for 00:09:01.70\00:09:05.53 me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous 00:09:05.56\00:09:09.04 judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, 00:09:09.07\00:09:13.09 but unto all them also that love his appearing. 00:09:13.12\00:09:17.14 Do they diligence to come shortly unto me: 00:09:17.17\00:09:20.98 for Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, 00:09:21.01\00:09:25.33 and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens 00:09:25.36\00:09:28.74 to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 00:09:28.77\00:09:31.63 Only Luke is with me. 00:09:31.66\00:09:33.01 Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable 00:09:33.04\00:09:37.21 to me for the ministry. 00:09:37.24\00:09:38.55 And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. 00:09:38.58\00:09:41.42 The cloak that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, 00:09:41.45\00:09:46.37 bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. 00:09:46.40\00:09:50.15 Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him 00:09:50.18\00:09:55.86 according to his works: of whom be thou ware also; for he hath 00:09:55.89\00:10:01.15 greatly withstood our words. 00:10:01.18\00:10:03.04 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: 00:10:03.07\00:10:08.72 I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 00:10:08.75\00:10:12.61 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; 00:10:12.64\00:10:17.08 that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the 00:10:17.11\00:10:20.63 Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth 00:10:20.66\00:10:23.35 of the lion. 00:10:23.38\00:10:24.35 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, 00:10:24.36\00:10:27.21 and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be 00:10:27.24\00:10:30.54 glory for ever and ever. 00:10:30.57\00:10:32.16 Amen. 00:10:32.19\00:10:33.16 Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 00:10:33.17\00:10:37.63 Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left 00:10:37.66\00:10:41.75 at Miletus sick. 00:10:41.78\00:10:43.27 Do thy diligence to come before winter. 00:10:43.30\00:10:46.27 Eubulus greeteth thee, and Prudens, and Linus, and Claudia, 00:10:46.30\00:10:50.46 and all the brethren. 00:10:50.49\00:10:51.46 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. 00:10:51.47\00:10:54.45 Grace be with you. 00:10:54.48\00:10:55.84 Amen. 00:10:55.87\00:10:57.18 Continuing now in the book of Titus, chapter 1, and this is, 00:10:57.21\00:11:02.80 again, the King James Version. 00:11:02.83\00:11:04.19 Titus chapter 1. 00:11:04.22\00:11:05.53 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, 00:11:05.56\00:11:09.96 according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of 00:11:09.99\00:11:13.62 the truth which is after godliness; in hope of eternal 00:11:13.65\00:11:17.22 life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world 00:11:17.25\00:11:22.19 began; but hath in due times manifested his word through 00:11:22.22\00:11:26.70 preaching, which is committed unto me according to the 00:11:26.73\00:11:29.95 commandment of God our Savior; to Titus, mine own son after the 00:11:29.98\00:11:35.72 common faith: grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father 00:11:35.75\00:11:40.16 and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. 00:11:40.19\00:11:42.09 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set 00:11:42.12\00:11:47.23 in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders 00:11:47.26\00:11:50.79 in every city, as I had appointed thee: if any be 00:11:50.82\00:11:54.70 blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children 00:11:54.73\00:11:58.38 not accused of riot or unruly. 00:11:58.41\00:12:01.50 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; 00:12:01.53\00:12:05.26 not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, 00:12:05.29\00:12:13.20 not given to filthy lucre; but a lover of hospitality, a lover of 00:12:13.23\00:12:18.95 good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; holding fast the 00:12:18.98\00:12:26.50 faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by 00:12:26.53\00:12:30.90 sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. 00:12:30.93\00:12:35.63 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, 00:12:35.66\00:12:39.78 specially they of the circumcision: whose mouths must 00:12:39.81\00:12:43.17 be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which 00:12:43.20\00:12:46.86 they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake. 00:12:46.89\00:12:49.30 One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, 00:12:49.33\00:12:53.24 The Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. 00:12:53.27\00:12:57.54 This witness is true. 00:12:57.57\00:12:59.23 Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound 00:12:59.26\00:13:02.67 in the faith; not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments 00:13:02.70\00:13:07.17 of men, that turn from the truth. 00:13:07.20\00:13:09.02 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are 00:13:09.05\00:13:13.83 defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their 00:13:13.86\00:13:17.62 mind and conscience is defiled. 00:13:17.65\00:13:19.75 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, 00:13:19.78\00:13:24.45 being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every 00:13:24.48\00:13:28.11 good work reprobate. 00:13:28.14\00:13:29.75 We are reading in the book of Titus, chapter 2. 00:13:29.78\00:13:33.20 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: that the 00:13:33.23\00:13:39.12 aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, 00:13:39.15\00:13:43.84 in charity, in patience. 00:13:43.87\00:13:45.77 The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becometh 00:13:45.80\00:13:50.31 holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, 00:13:50.34\00:13:55.24 teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women 00:13:55.27\00:13:59.37 to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their 00:13:59.40\00:14:02.74 children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, 00:14:02.77\00:14:09.13 obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God 00:14:09.16\00:14:12.71 be not blasphemed. 00:14:12.74\00:14:13.90 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 00:14:13.93\00:14:18.21 In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: 00:14:18.24\00:14:23.47 in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, 00:14:23.50\00:14:27.29 sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; 00:14:27.32\00:14:31.32 that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no 00:14:31.35\00:14:35.75 evil thing to say of you. 00:14:35.78\00:14:37.73
