Hi, and welcome to His Words Are Life. 00:00:15.87\00:00:18.57 I'm Kelly Mowrer and today we are going to be reading 00:00:18.60\00:00:21.91 some of the things that Paul was writing to the Corinthians. 00:00:21.94\00:00:24.74 about why he, himself, was a servant of Christ, 00:00:24.77\00:00:28.93 and how he tried to make that service to their benefit. 00:00:28.96\00:00:32.79 I think sometimes when I sit down to read the bible, 00:00:32.82\00:00:35.38 when we come together, I talk about how that the Word of God 00:00:35.41\00:00:38.78 can be hope and life and comfort to us, 00:00:38.81\00:00:41.52 and I know that, that is always true, but the end result 00:00:41.55\00:00:45.28 is not just to draw us closer to God for our own edification 00:00:45.31\00:00:50.11 but so that we can be a blessing to others and so today, 00:00:50.14\00:00:52.69 as we read these words from Paul, perhaps God will use 00:00:52.72\00:00:55.96 them to show us how each of us wherever we are can go out and 00:00:55.99\00:00:59.76 serve better and serve more selflessly as Paul is writing 00:00:59.79\00:01:04.74 here. Let's pray together. Dear God, Thank you so much 00:01:04.77\00:01:07.80 for these words and thank you for sending us the Holy Spirit 00:01:07.83\00:01:11.89 to help us to understand them, both to be thankful 00:01:11.92\00:01:16.10 for the example that Paul set for us all those years ago 00:01:16.13\00:01:19.80 but also give us a, as we listen today, ears that can hear these 00:01:19.83\00:01:25.76 words as an instruction to us. And open our minds to ways that 00:01:25.79\00:01:30.97 we could put them into practice and be used by You to build up 00:01:31.00\00:01:34.64 Your family that is living today in our neighborhood, 00:01:34.67\00:01:38.41 in our home and in our churches. We love you so much Jesus, 00:01:38.44\00:01:42.15 and thank you. Amen. 00:01:42.18\00:01:43.46 I am reading from the King James version and this is 00:01:43.49\00:01:46.72 2nd Corinthians, chapter 5, starting with verse eleven. 00:01:46.75\00:01:51.29 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; 00:01:51.32\00:01:56.63 but we are made manifest unto God and I trust also are made 00:01:56.66\00:02:00.05 manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves 00:02:00.08\00:02:03.88 again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, 00:02:03.91\00:02:08.48 that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory 00:02:08.51\00:02:11.95 in appearance and not in heart. For whether we be beside 00:02:11.98\00:02:15.89 ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, 00:02:15.92\00:02:19.02 it is for your cause. For the love of Christ constraineth us; 00:02:19.05\00:02:23.42 because we thus judge, that if one died for all, 00:02:23.45\00:02:27.18 then were all dead: And that he died for all, 00:02:27.21\00:02:30.40 that they which live, should not henceforth live unto themselves, 00:02:30.43\00:02:34.73 but unto Him which died for them and rose again. 00:02:34.76\00:02:38.44 Wherefore, henceforth know we no man after the flesh. 00:02:38.47\00:02:42.72 Yea, thought we had known Christ after the flesh, yet now 00:02:42.75\00:02:46.05 henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in 00:02:46.08\00:02:51.22 Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away 00:02:51.25\00:02:55.28 and behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, 00:02:55.31\00:02:59.42 who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given 00:02:59.45\00:03:03.46 to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit that God 00:03:03.49\00:03:08.44 was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, 00:03:08.47\00:03:11.95 not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed 00:03:11.98\00:03:16.75 unto us the word of reconciliation. 00:03:16.78\00:03:19.57 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did 00:03:19.60\00:03:24.13 beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, 00:03:24.16\00:03:28.30 be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, 00:03:28.33\00:03:33.20 who knew no sin; that we might be made 00:03:33.23\00:03:36.33 the righteousness of God in him. 00:03:36.36\00:03:38.64 I am reading from II Corinthians beginning now with Chapter six. 00:03:38.67\00:03:42.54 We then as workers together with him, beseech you also 00:03:42.57\00:03:48.73 that you receive not the grace of God in vain. 00:03:48.76\00:03:51.88 For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the 00:03:51.91\00:03:55.93 day of salvation have I succored thee: 00:03:55.96\00:03:58.09 behold now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of 00:03:58.12\00:04:02.15 salvation. Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry 00:04:02.18\00:04:06.77 be not blamed: But in all things approving ourselves as the 00:04:06.80\00:04:11.30 ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, 00:04:11.33\00:04:15.48 in necessities, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, 00:04:15.51\00:04:21.72 in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings, 00:04:21.75\00:04:25.68 by pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, 00:04:25.71\00:04:31.56 by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, by the word of truth, 00:04:31.59\00:04:37.06 by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness 00:04:37.10\00:04:40.11 on the right hand and on the left, by honour and dishonour, 00:04:40.14\00:04:44.08 by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 00:04:44.11\00:04:48.53 as unknown and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; 00:04:48.56\00:04:55.08 as chastened, and not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; 00:04:55.11\00:05:01.37 as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet 00:05:01.40\00:05:08.28 possessing all things. O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open 00:05:08.31\00:05:13.73 unto you, our heart is enlarged. Ye are not straitened in us, 00:05:13.76\00:05:17.95 But ye are straitened in your own bowels. 00:05:17.98\00:05:20.64 Now for a recompense in the same I speak as unto my children, 00:05:20.67\00:05:25.15 be ye also enlarged. Be ye not unequally yoked together with 00:05:25.18\00:05:30.30 unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness 00:05:30.33\00:05:32.93 with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light 00:05:32.96\00:05:35.90 with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? 00:05:35.93\00:05:39.77 or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 00:05:39.80\00:05:43.53 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? 00:05:43.56\00:05:46.85 for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, 00:05:46.88\00:05:51.62 I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God 00:05:51.65\00:05:56.28 and they shall be my people, Wherefore come out from among 00:05:57.10\00:06:01.19 them and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not 00:06:01.22\00:06:03.97 the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 00:06:04.00\00:06:06.41 and will be a Father unto you and ye shall be my sons and 00:06:06.44\00:06:09.97 daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 00:06:10.00\00:06:12.32 2nd Corinthians chapter seven. Having therefore these promises, 00:06:12.35\00:06:17.45 dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness 00:06:17.48\00:06:21.15 of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness 00:06:21.18\00:06:24.14 in the fear of God. Receive us; we have wronged no man, 00:06:24.17\00:06:28.42 we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man. 00:06:28.45\00:06:31.60 I speak not this to condemn you for I have said before, 00:06:31.63\00:06:35.80 and ye are in our hearts to die and live with you. 00:06:35.83\00:06:38.85 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying 00:06:38.88\00:06:43.83 of you. I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful 00:06:43.86\00:06:47.84 in all our tribulation. For when we were come into Macedonia, 00:06:47.87\00:06:51.57 our flesh had no rest but we were troubled on every side; 00:06:51.60\00:06:54.40 without were fightings, within were fears, 00:06:54.63\00:06:57.92 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast 00:06:57.95\00:07:02.62 down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 00:07:02.65\00:07:06.15 and not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith 00:07:06.18\00:07:10.50 he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, 00:07:10.53\00:07:14.65 your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; 00:07:14.68\00:07:17.51 so that I rejoiced the more. For though I made you sorry with a 00:07:17.54\00:07:21.70 letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: 00:07:21.73\00:07:24.30 for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, 00:07:24.33\00:07:28.27 though it were but for a season. And now I rejoice, 00:07:28.30\00:07:32.08 not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed 00:07:32.12\00:07:35.56 to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, 00:07:35.59\00:07:39.48 that ye might receive damage by us in nothing, 00:07:39.51\00:07:42.43 for godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation 00:07:42.46\00:07:46.69 not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world 00:07:46.72\00:07:50.52 worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed 00:07:50.55\00:07:54.75 after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, 00:07:54.78\00:07:59.01 yea, what clearing of yourselves yea, what indignation, 00:07:59.04\00:08:03.19 yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, 00:08:03.22\00:08:08.24 yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves 00:08:08.27\00:08:12.57 to be clear in this matter. Wherefore, though I wrote 00:08:12.60\00:08:16.07 unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, 00:08:16.10\00:08:19.73 nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you 00:08:19.76\00:08:24.53 in the sight of God might appear unto you. 00:08:24.56\00:08:26.91 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: 00:08:26.94\00:08:30.17 yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, 00:08:30.20\00:08:34.51 because his spirit was refreshed by you all. 00:08:34.54\00:08:37.80 For if I had boasted in anything to him of you, I am not ashamed. 00:08:37.83\00:08:42.45 but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so 00:08:42.48\00:08:46.70 our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth. 00:08:46.73\00:08:51.36 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, 00:08:51.39\00:08:55.18 whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, 00:08:55.21\00:08:58.19 how with fear and trembling ye received him. 00:08:58.22\00:09:01.17 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things. 00:09:01.20\00:09:06.83 We are reading from II Corinthians, 00:09:06.86\00:09:09.35 and the King James version. and beginning now with chapter 8 00:09:09.38\00:09:12.19 Moreover brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed 00:09:12.22\00:09:18.62 on the churches of Macedonia; how that in a great trial of 00:09:18.65\00:09:22.99 affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty 00:09:23.02\00:09:26.25 abounded unto the riches of their liberality. 00:09:26.28\00:09:29.68 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their 00:09:29.71\00:09:34.41 power, they were willing of themselves; 00:09:34.44\00:09:36.31 praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift 00:09:36.34\00:09:40.57 and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints 00:09:40.60\00:09:44.85 and this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their 00:09:44.88\00:09:49.02 own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God. 00:09:49.05\00:09:52.77 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, 00:09:52.80\00:09:57.49 so he would also finish in you the same grace also. 00:09:57.52\00:10:00.28 Therefore as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, 00:10:00.31\00:10:04.95 and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love 00:10:04.98\00:10:07.51 to us, see that you abound in grace also. 00:10:07.54\00:10:10.56 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness 00:10:10.59\00:10:15.28 of others and to prove the sincerity of your love. 00:10:15.31\00:10:17.71 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:10:17.74\00:10:20.61 that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, 00:10:20.64\00:10:25.14 that ye through his poverty might be rich. 00:10:25.17\00:10:29.14 And herein I give my advice for this is expedient for you, 00:10:29.17\00:10:33.36 who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a 00:10:33.39\00:10:37.54 year ago. Now therefore, perform the doing of it; 00:10:37.57\00:10:42.00 that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be 00:10:42.03\00:10:46.32 a performance also out of that which ye have. 00:10:46.35\00:10:49.34 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according 00:10:49.37\00:10:54.66 to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not. 00:10:54.69\00:10:58.10 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened: 00:10:58.13\00:11:02.14 but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be 00:11:02.17\00:11:07.32 a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a 00:11:07.35\00:11:11.77 supply for your want: that there may be equality: 00:11:11.80\00:11:14.98 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing 00:11:15.01\00:11:18.80 over and he that had gathered little had no lack. 00:11:18.91\00:11:22.06 But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care 00:11:22.09\00:11:25.89 into the heart of Titus for you. For indeed he accepted 00:11:25.92\00:11:29.71 the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord, he 00:11:29.74\00:11:33.52 went unto you. And we have sent with him the brother, 00:11:33.55\00:11:36.76 whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches; 00:11:36.79\00:11:39.87 and not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to 00:11:39.90\00:11:43.82 travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us 00:11:43.85\00:11:47.66 to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready 00:11:47.69\00:11:51.65 mind: Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this 00:11:51.68\00:11:56.45 abundance which is administered by us: 00:11:56.48\00:11:58.73 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, 00:11:58.76\00:12:02.92 but also in the sight of men. And we have sent with them 00:12:02.95\00:12:07.05 our brother, whom we have often times proved diligent 00:12:07.08\00:12:10.15 in many things, bit now much more diligent upon the great 00:12:10.18\00:12:14.31 confidence which I have in you. Whether any do inquire of Titus, 00:12:14.34\00:12:18.99 he is my partner and fellow helper concerning you: 00:12:19.02\00:12:21.45 or our brethren be inquired of, they are the messengers of the 00:12:21.48\00:12:26.09 churches and the glory of Christ wherefore shew ye to them 00:12:26.12\00:12:30.75 and before the churches, the proof of your love, 00:12:30.78\00:12:33.75 and of our boasting on your behalf. 00:12:33.78\00:12:35.80 Continuing to read Paul's 2nd letter to the church in Corinth 00:12:35.83\00:12:40.16 and beginning with chapter 9. For as touching the ministering 00:12:40.19\00:12:44.94 to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 00:12:44.97\00:12:47.76 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of 00:12:47.79\00:12:50.79 you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; 00:12:50.82\00:12:54.73 and your zeal has provoked very many. 00:12:54.76\00:12:57.63 Yet have I sent the brethren lest our boasting of you should 00:12:57.66\00:13:01.63 be in vain in this behalf; that as I said, ye may be ready: 00:13:01.66\00:13:05.56 Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you 00:13:05.74\00:13:10.10 unprepared, we, that we say not, ye, should be ashamed in this 00:13:10.13\00:13:15.43 same confident boasting, therefore I thought it necessary 00:13:15.46\00:13:19.43 to exhort the brethren that they would go before unto you and 00:13:19.46\00:13:22.91 make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, 00:13:22.94\00:13:26.94 that the same might be ready as a matter of bounty and not 00:13:26.97\00:13:31.20 as of covetousness. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly 00:13:31.23\00:13:36.06 shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully 00:13:36.09\00:13:40.68 shall reap also bountifully, every man according as he 00:13:40.71\00:13:46.06 purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, 00:13:46.09\00:13:50.19 or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver. 00:13:50.22\00:13:54.31 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; 00:13:54.34\00:13:58.01 that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, 00:13:58.04\00:14:02.06 may abound to every good work: (as it is written, 00:14:02.09\00:14:05.81 He hath dispersed abroad, he hath given to the poor: 00:14:05.84\00:14:08.73 his righteousness remaineth for ever. 00:14:08.76\00:14:11.65 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread 00:14:11.68\00:14:16.05 for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase 00:14:16.08\00:14:20.56 the fruits of your righteousness) 00:14:20.59\00:14:22.75 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, 00:14:22.78\00:14:26.40 which causes through us thanksgiving to God. 00:14:26.43\00:14:30.18 May God's blessings come through each of us 00:14:30.21\00:14:33.19 to bless those around us. Goodbye. 00:14:33.22\00:14:35.78
