Hi, and welcome again to His Words are Life. 00:00:16.56\00:00:18.62 I'm Kelly Mowrer. And today we will be reading from the book 00:00:18.65\00:00:21.93 of Romans. But before we begin, let's pray together. 00:00:21.96\00:00:24.57 Dear Jesus, thank you so much for your love and for your grace 00:00:24.60\00:00:30.92 and thank you for your law. And write that on our hearts. 00:00:30.95\00:00:35.48 As we read today, the words of Paul about law and grace, 00:00:35.51\00:00:40.74 give us a deeper understanding. We know without your mercy, 00:00:40.77\00:00:44.43 none of us would even be here. We know that without your grace, 00:00:44.46\00:00:47.94 we would never see you. But we don't want to make the mistake 00:00:47.97\00:00:52.48 of thinking that what your grace started we can somehow finish 00:00:52.51\00:00:55.48 but nor do we want to scorn the need to be obedient 00:00:55.51\00:01:00.79 to what you've told us. So give us an understanding as we read 00:01:00.82\00:01:03.96 today that we might server you better. We love you so much. 00:01:03.99\00:01:06.98 Amen. Again, I am reading today from the King James version 00:01:07.01\00:01:12.16 in the book of Romans, chapter 2 and starting with verse 13. 00:01:12.19\00:01:16.53 For not the hearers of the law are just before God; 00:01:16.56\00:01:21.60 but the doers of the law shall be justified. 00:01:21.63\00:01:25.17 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature 00:01:25.20\00:01:30.02 the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, 00:01:30.05\00:01:34.29 are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written 00:01:34.32\00:01:39.10 in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, 00:01:39.13\00:01:42.88 and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing 00:01:42.91\00:01:47.00 one another; - In the day when God shall judge the secrets 00:01:47.03\00:01:52.01 of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. 00:01:52.04\00:01:55.35 Behold, thou art called a Jew and restest in the law, 00:01:55.38\00:01:59.82 and makest thy boast of God, and knowest his will, and approvest 00:01:59.85\00:02:04.11 the things that are more excellent, being instructed 00:02:04.14\00:02:07.32 out of the law and art confident that thou thyself art a guide 00:02:07.35\00:02:12.28 of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, 00:02:12.31\00:02:15.47 and instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, 00:02:15.50\00:02:18.78 which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth 00:02:18.81\00:02:22.10 in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another, 00:02:22.13\00:02:26.37 teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not 00:02:26.40\00:02:32.06 steal, dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man should not 00:02:32.09\00:02:39.44 commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? 00:02:39.47\00:02:42.61 thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 00:02:42.64\00:02:46.26 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking 00:02:46.29\00:02:50.35 the law dishonourest thou God? For the name of God 00:02:50.38\00:02:54.22 is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, 00:02:54.25\00:02:57.42 as it is written. For circumcision verily profiteth, 00:02:57.45\00:03:02.17 if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, 00:03:02.20\00:03:06.25 thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 00:03:06.28\00:03:08.96 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of 00:03:08.99\00:03:13.74 the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted 00:03:13.77\00:03:17.62 for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision 00:03:17.65\00:03:21.30 which is by nature, if it fulfill the law, judge thee, 00:03:21.33\00:03:25.60 who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress 00:03:25.63\00:03:28.72 the law? for he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; 00:03:28.75\00:03:33.18 neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 00:03:33.21\00:03:37.31 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision 00:03:37.34\00:03:43.19 is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; 00:03:43.22\00:03:47.32 whose praise is not of men, but of God. 00:03:47.35\00:03:51.12 We're reading today from the book of Romans, 00:03:51.15\00:03:54.10 the King James version, beginning now in chapter three 00:03:54.13\00:03:57.33 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of 00:03:57.36\00:04:02.29 circumcision? Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them 00:04:02.32\00:04:08.45 were committed the oracles of God. 00:04:08.48\00:04:10.45 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief 00:04:10.48\00:04:14.98 make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: 00:04:15.01\00:04:18.94 Yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, 00:04:18.97\00:04:24.53 That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, 00:04:24.56\00:04:28.02 and mightest overcome when thou art judged. 00:04:28.05\00:04:30.56 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God 00:04:30.59\00:04:35.64 what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance 00:04:35.67\00:04:40.41 - I speak as a man - God forbid: for then how shall God judge 00:04:40.44\00:04:46.36 the world? For if the truth of God hath more abounded through 00:04:46.39\00:04:50.82 my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? 00:04:50.85\00:04:56.17 And not rather - as we be slanderously reported 00:04:56.20\00:05:00.84 and as some affirm that we say - Let us do evil, that good 00:05:00.87\00:05:04.20 may come? whose damnation is just. What then? 00:05:04.23\00:05:08.67 Are we better than they? No in no wise: for we have before 00:05:08.70\00:05:14.48 proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 00:05:14.51\00:05:19.31 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 00:05:19.34\00:05:24.44 There is none that understandeth there is none that seeketh after 00:05:24.47\00:05:30.37 God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together 00:05:30.40\00:05:35.74 become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no not one 00:05:35.77\00:05:41.24 Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues 00:05:41.27\00:05:44.82 they have used deceit; the poison of asps 00:05:44.85\00:05:48.10 is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing 00:05:48.13\00:05:51.72 and bitterness: their feet are swift to shed blood: 00:05:51.75\00:05:55.65 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 00:05:55.68\00:05:58.52 And the way of peace have they not known: 00:05:58.55\00:06:01.37 There is no fear of God before their eyes. 00:06:01.40\00:06:04.12 Now we know that what things so ever the law saith, 00:06:04.15\00:06:08.36 it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth 00:06:08.39\00:06:12.32 may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty 00:06:12.35\00:06:15.22 before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law 00:06:15.25\00:06:19.70 there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: 00:06:19.73\00:06:23.36 for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 00:06:23.39\00:06:27.06 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, 00:06:27.09\00:06:32.98 being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 00:06:33.01\00:06:35.50 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of 00:06:35.53\00:06:39.58 Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: 00:06:39.61\00:06:44.71 for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short 00:06:44.74\00:06:48.27 of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace 00:06:48.30\00:06:52.99 through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath 00:06:53.02\00:06:57.89 set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, 00:06:57.92\00:07:02.06 to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins 00:07:02.09\00:07:05.80 that are past, through the forbearance of God; 00:07:05.83\00:07:09.01 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: 00:07:09.04\00:07:13.27 that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth 00:07:13.30\00:07:18.10 in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. 00:07:18.13\00:07:22.91 By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 00:07:22.94\00:07:28.59 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith 00:07:28.62\00:07:33.47 without the deeds of the law. Is he the God of the Jews only? 00:07:33.50\00:07:37.94 Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 00:07:37.97\00:07:42.42 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision 00:07:42.45\00:07:47.25 by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 00:07:47.28\00:07:50.46 Do we then make void the law through faith? 00:07:50.49\00:07:53.95 God forbid: yea, we establish the law. 00:07:53.98\00:07:58.80 We're reading again from the book of Romans, 00:07:58.83\00:08:01.87 beginning now in chapter 4. What shall we say then 00:08:01.90\00:08:05.59 that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, 00:08:05.62\00:08:08.64 hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, 00:08:08.67\00:08:11.58 he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 00:08:11.61\00:08:15.75 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, 00:08:15.78\00:08:20.46 and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 00:08:20.49\00:08:23.56 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, 00:08:23.59\00:08:28.27 but of debt. But to him that worketh not, 00:08:28.30\00:08:32.02 but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, 00:08:32.05\00:08:35.31 his faith is counted for righteousness. 00:08:35.34\00:08:38.18 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, 00:08:38.21\00:08:43.41 unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 00:08:43.44\00:08:47.64 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, 00:08:47.67\00:08:50.88 and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man 00:08:50.91\00:08:53.77 to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 00:08:53.80\00:08:56.37 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, 00:08:56.40\00:09:01.02 or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith 00:09:01.05\00:09:05.38 was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness. 00:09:05.41\00:09:07.89 How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, 00:09:07.92\00:09:12.08 or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, 00:09:12.11\00:09:16.53 but in uncircumcision. 00:09:16.56\00:09:18.75 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the 00:09:18.79\00:09:23.20 righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: 00:09:23.23\00:09:27.67 that he might be the father of all them that believe, 00:09:27.70\00:09:32.50 though they be not circumcised; that righteousness 00:09:32.53\00:09:36.98 might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision 00:09:37.01\00:09:41.57 to them who are not of the circumcision only, 00:09:41.60\00:09:44.02 but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father 00:09:44.05\00:09:48.23 Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. 00:09:48.26\00:09:52.58 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, 00:09:52.61\00:09:56.80 was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, 00:09:56.83\00:10:00.93 but through the righteousness of faith. 00:10:00.96\00:10:04.04 For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, 00:10:04.07\00:10:08.55 and the promise made of none effect: Because the law 00:10:08.58\00:10:12.92 worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. 00:10:12.95\00:10:17.52 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; 00:10:17.55\00:10:22.70 to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; 00:10:22.73\00:10:26.61 not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is 00:10:26.64\00:10:31.54 of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 00:10:31.57\00:10:34.70 - As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, - 00:10:34.73\00:10:39.14 before him whom he believed, even God, 00:10:39.17\00:10:43.23 who quickeneth the dead and calleth those things 00:10:43.26\00:10:46.65 which be not as though they were. 00:10:46.68\00:10:49.35 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the 00:10:49.38\00:10:54.93 father of many nations according to that which was spoken, 00:10:54.96\00:10:58.43 so shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered 00:10:58.46\00:11:04.62 not his own body, now dead, when he was about 100 years old, 00:11:04.65\00:11:08.17 neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: 00:11:08.20\00:11:11.17 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; 00:11:11.20\00:11:15.57 but was strong in faith, giving glory to God. 00:11:15.60\00:11:19.19 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, 00:11:19.22\00:11:24.09 he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him 00:11:24.12\00:11:30.98 for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, 00:11:31.01\00:11:35.63 that it was imputed to him; but for us also, 00:11:35.66\00:11:38.74 to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up 00:11:38.77\00:11:44.02 Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered 00:11:44.05\00:11:47.55 for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. 00:11:47.58\00:11:51.39 Reading again, the book of Romans, chapter 5 00:11:51.42\00:11:54.98 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God 00:11:55.01\00:12:01.15 through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access 00:12:01.18\00:12:06.01 by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope 00:12:06.04\00:12:11.69 of the glory of God. And not only so, 00:12:11.72\00:12:14.84 but we glory in tribulations also; knowing that 00:12:14.87\00:12:18.27 tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; 00:12:18.30\00:12:22.50 and experience, hope; and hope maketh not ashamed; 00:12:22.53\00:12:27.78 because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts 00:12:27.81\00:12:31.04 by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. 00:12:31.07\00:12:33.18 For when we were yet without strength, in due time 00:12:33.21\00:12:37.77 Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man 00:12:37.80\00:12:42.29 will one die: yet peradventure for a good man 00:12:42.32\00:12:45.64 some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love 00:12:45.67\00:12:50.56 toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, 00:12:50.59\00:12:54.17 Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified 00:12:54.20\00:12:59.15 by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 00:12:59.18\00:13:03.44 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God 00:13:03.47\00:13:07.85 by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, 00:13:07.88\00:13:11.90 we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy 00:13:11.93\00:13:17.37 in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now 00:13:17.40\00:13:20.98 received the atonement. Wherefore, as by one man 00:13:21.01\00:13:25.26 sin entered into the world, and death by sin; 00:13:25.29\00:13:27.81 and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned; 00:13:27.84\00:13:31.64 - For until the law, sin was in the world: but sin is 00:13:31.67\00:13:34.80 not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned 00:13:34.83\00:13:38.93 from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned 00:13:38.96\00:13:43.00 after the similitude of Adam's transgression, 00:13:43.03\00:13:45.11 who is the figure of him that was to come. 00:13:45.14\00:13:47.66 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. 00:13:47.69\00:13:52.31 For is through the offence of one, many be dead, 00:13:52.34\00:13:56.35 much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, 00:13:56.38\00:14:00.56 which is by one man, Jesus Christ, 00:14:00.59\00:14:02.95 hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned 00:14:02.98\00:14:08.04 so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, 00:14:08.07\00:14:12.79 but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 00:14:12.82\00:14:17.42 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; 00:14:17.45\00:14:21.04 much more they which receive abundance of grace 00:14:21.07\00:14:24.38 and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, 00:14:24.41\00:14:28.83 Jesus Christ. - Until we come together again 00:14:28.86\00:14:32.39 may you know the joy of his grace. Goodbye. 00:14:32.42\00:14:35.46
